WARNING: This is not a WindowsMobile ROM. This has just WM core actually required to launch Android.
Do you want only to use android, and you don't want to boot in WM before booting Android? This is what you need!
How it works:
It checks for haret.exe in your sd. If it is here, it launchs it immediately. You will see Android booting in 5 sec +/-
If it is not here it shuts down automatically your phone. There will be no booting in WM anyway!
Why? Fast booting is due to lack of most drivers and extensions. You won't be able to do anything in WM part...
Happy playing.

If there is no driver, I guess nothing works in android (since the reason why there is no android ROM is because of the need of wince driver inits...).
So does USB work ? touchscreen ? data connection ? capactivie pad ?
Anyway, it sounds really great.
I have some requests though: a diam image, an option (vol up pressed at startup ?) to export the internal mmc on usb (internal storage sucks.), and a big contiguous space on the nand so that we can put android in this space.
I have a really ridicules question to you guys, since i'm no developer and just a simple minded end user
The hardware on most of HTC's phones seems to be exactly the same, with really minor differences in them (all based around the same qualcomm chipset). Why is it not possible to simply flash a HERO Android Rom, onto an identical "more or less" WM type of device?
I know it probably won't work, and would/could/should brick the mobile, but question is why?

This doesn't work. Just keeps looping "HTC quietly brilliant" splash screen. Did anyone actually try it? Maybe it's the type of flash card I am using (just a small 512MB formatted FAT). But this rom isn't working as intended...
Just tried reformatting FAT32. No dice.
Update 14JAN10: Not sure what mischy is talking about later "haret.exe that will automatically load" (doesn't startup.txt decide that?), but it definitely does not work for me -- it just loops through the HTC screen and keeps rebooting. Michy if there is a specific haret.exe to use, or something else (other than having a valid startup.txt) can you please tell us? I have unzipped the latested Connect-utb xandroid package and used haret.exe included - didn't work. Also tried directly from haret.exe author site -- didn't work. Also tried version linked here on XDA on the XDADEvloperWiki for Raphael. didn't work.
Gonna give this a shot, see what problems/joys I encounter
I wonder, since it seems haret requires stuff already activated in winmo to work in android, if this will affect anything, but I have also booted into Android with 3g off, but could still get it in Android.
EDIT: Okay, I tried it, and all I have gotten in the past hour or so is "Booting Linux" printed across my screen, and nothing. I've let it sit there for five minutes or so, nothing. Reset at least 6 times. Nothing. Done it with USB plugged in and with USB plugged out. Using a fuze, and have hard reset it twice since flashing.

You need a version of haret which AUTOMATICALLY boots not which requires user input

Thats what I think, but I can't test it either! I don't have one yet damn... heh
Im dying to try it on my PDA2K (Blueangel)
can someone direct me to the latest version
cause i found alot of versions and none of them for blueangel
please let me know and im ready to do it
(by the way .. im a beginer but would love to learn)
Take a look at:

There's a link to both Opie ang GPE rootfs images there...
If you have problems getting the the Opie image to boot, take
a look at:

Under the download section you can find the Opie rootfs image I use
to boot my Blueangel. Its a bit different from the original, but it works!
Thanks alot Mr. Mind for the help .. i would try it when i get home cause at the moment am at work.
but one question (would the commands work with my operating system? cause its not linux , its double OS "windows XP" & "Windows Vista")
i would try to use the commands in the command prompt
thanks alot for your help and patience

Well no, the format of the SD card and all that stuff needs to be done under linux.
Windows cannot create ext2 partitions on the sd-card.
You need to install linux dude
this way i have to wait until i install the linux OS (which would take few days for backin up my data)
thanks alot for your support, cause i got a friend of mine workin with me in the same company under IT - Mobile services testing section. he advised me to get linux on my blueangel
anyways thanks alot and if you got any advise i would be thankful.

Opie image that's posted on handhelds.org is defective - i couldn't get opie to work.
GPE image does work, but it has too many issues to be even remotely useable. In other words, it is work in progress.

The only way you would be able to upgrade to WinMO 6.5 would be to flash the phone just like when you flash a custom ROM now
WinMO 6.5 is not an installable app/upgrade like upgrading an application on your phone its the operating system itself
Right now and there are very few ROMS out there for WinMO 6.5 and none for the Vogue at all (Im assuming you have a Vogue as this is where you posted) soon there will be one as there are people working on it currently but what is there is EXTREMELY buggy and almost non-functional for the fact its on a phone and a phone should be able to be used after all LOL
Keep with the Custom ROMS for now and wait, the desire for it has been spoken and the Chefs are a cookin LOL

NFSFan has confirmed that those WM 6.5 ROMS are FAKE. Even if they were real, there would be no point of using them...
The builds are fake indeed. However they do contain a few components of 6.5. None which are worth upgrading for.

Really? What components do they have? Anything from a new today screen or Internet Explorer (like rumored)?
Kinetic scroll (give up TouchFLO and Manila2D), new IE build that supports kinetic scroll. The today screens being posted are fake. They are actually from a smartphone, called HTC Juno. Some asian dude took it out of the Juno, resized the images, and re-arranged the tabs to make it look like the new today screen.
flashing on Vouge
I know this may sound tedious but i have no idea on how to flash any ROM onto my Vouge. Can someone please help. I would love to try out several ROMs and see which one would work best for me.
Thanks in advance
Hey, here is one really good one
Detroit_Doug said:
Basically here are the steps
Download the 2.31 unlocker
Download the ROM you want to use (my personal preference is this one for a TF2D style or this one for a WinMO 6.5 style interface that has TF2D included to switch back and for - both very stable, fast and clean and the thread is very active for help (especially if your on Verizon or Bell which can have issues)
from there, use WinRAR to extract each file into separate folders
then Put your phone in bootloader mode (press and hold power+camera+stylus in reset until 3-color screen comes up)
At this point at the bottom of the screen it will say Serial, plug it into the USB cable or cradle and it should change to USB
Start the exe in the 2.31 and follow the directions (you may get some errors about sleep4.exe just click on OK as it keeps occuring its a XP/Windows7 64 bit issue if that is what your using)
At the point where it tell you to disconect, unplug the phone from the USB cable and wait (count to 10 or something) then plug it back in, it should have went from USB to SERIAL and now back to USB at that point go ahead and hit any key on your PC and it should continue along
once complete, reboot, allow it to do its thing then reboot and go back into bootloader again during reboot you should see coke 2.31 in the upper left if so your ready to go
plug it into your USB/Cradle again and then go into the ROM folder you extracted the ROM into
Once the screen on your phone says USB again go to the folder and double click on the RomUpdateUtility.exe file and follow the directions again, it may take some time so be paitent
once the phone flashes and reboots, let it run and do its thing to the and reboot itself then (and here is an important step for stability) once it starts up do a hard reset (red+green+stylus in reset hole) hit the enter button (center of D-Pad) it will reflash the phone and then red key (send) when prompted
then go thought the setup again, this time you can actually set things up as your keeping them this time and once things are done and your at the start screen on your phone power off (not reset) the phone and then start it up again - seems doing it this way takes care of alot of little issues that will come up before they can happen
Depending on your carrier be sure to have one of the DCD Carrier Cabs as well especially for the 6.5 ROM as it is a generic ROM and some have reported needing to run the DCD Carrier Cab for the service they use to get on the internet and use GPS and the like

Please, as noted, read a little before posting. This answer would have been VERY easy to find using google or xda search feature.
It IS possible to dual boot. WM is on nand, and Android is on your SD, for the time being they will not overwrite one another.
Here is the .cab that will give you a dual boot UI.

Yeah, the "dual boot" solution at the moment is simply to boot into Windows Mobile and run an executable on the SD card which then pushes Windows Mobile out of RAM and loads the Linux kernel and eventually Android. If you know what loadlin is, it's pretty much the same concept. This means you can simply delete the files off your SD card without worry if you decide you don't want Android there anymore.
Thank You!

Maybe what he means can you "dual boot" in the sense that you can have which OS to choose way before WM boots up both on NAND. Kinda like dual booting XP and WIn7. Without the need of an SD Card. I know the answer to this is still obviously no, how about some time in the future? is this possible?
Maybe?

It is in theory possible, but nobody has done it simply because of the incredible amount of work required. The iPhone, believe it or not, has this functionality with Open iBoot, so I am quite certain it would be possible on this device as well, but nobody has created an alternate bootloader/SPL for our devices with the exception of HardSPL, which is only modified and not completely rewritten.
It would be a nice touch to have a pretty, pre-boot environment to choose your OS, but I doubt that will happen any time soon. Besides, the WM file system is kinda weird (other operating systems can't read it AFAIK), so I don't think both WM and Android could simultaneously exist on NAND, and as a result Android would still have to sit on the SD card regardless of the existence of a pre-boot environment for choosing your OS.
This has most definately (I would assume) been asked before, but for some reason I can't find any info about. I wanted to know if there is a way(possible) to develop a flashable Android 2.1 ROM to the Tilt 2 (or any other windows mobile device)? I ask because I personally would want to fore-go the HaRET method since this is just Android running on top of Windows Mobile and therefore you won't see the speed benefits or full functionality of Android. If this hasn't been done yet it seems like it should be possible since the HTC phones share a lot of the same hardware i.e. Hero and touch pro2. Can anyone provide info as to why this is or isn't possible?
Thanks

This is currently in development i believe but in practical terms we would need a fully functioning ROM first in order to make a flashable Android ROM practical...Haret is easy because you can boot right back to WinMo...instead of having to reflash your device

Android does not run on top of windows. Running android using haret can be viewed as booting up a Live CD on your computer. A complete flash (over writing WM OS in ROM) might be possible in the future. Take a look at the Kaiser and Vogue forums the ability to flash into ROM already exists for those two devices. The problem with porting android into any device is that most of the information such as drivers, hardware chip sets etc. are not publicly available. The devs here, are in some cases literally reverse engineering parts of the phones hardware trying to get things working. Just give em some time and support.
Yup, If you look at the kaiser android threads they do have android running from nand removing WM completely. I think they want to get a functioning build before they start trying to flash to nand. One step at a time.

With a live CD you actually boot from the cd and never touch windows. With haret, you boot into windows and run it.
Are you saying it unloads windows?
Windows is not still running underneath?
I was looking for info to determine if I would be better off running the most stripped down lean version of windows for better android performance.. but from this post it sounds like it does not matter?? Is this true?
i think the best way right now is to use the minimum rom for winmo, and use that dualboot program.

HaRET completely unloads Windows Mobile from memory before loading the Linux kernel, and eventually Android, rather than simply running Android alongside Windows Mobile. If you know what loadlin was, it's essentially the same concept of unloading one OS and loading another, without shutting down the device. Therefore, the ROM you're running doesn't actually affect the speed at which Android, or any other Linux distro, runs.

Still not even close to that, we gotta get the system to up to stable state since their would be no way to reboot if something were to lock up. its not a matter of if, just a matter of when. I had the vogue for a long time with the flashable image and it was the best thing ever with just how stable its gotten. it turns your old ass device into a new beast quite literally. the only thing bothering me is the prioritization of the current devs working on the builds.
Can someone tell me the name of the users who are working on the driver/kernel? i might be able to help them get those drivers working.

WHATS TASK29\MTTY
when u flash a rom, you are copying files onto the internal memory (like duh!) but if u repeatadly flash different roms, sometimes files from older version stays behind as when u flash a rom, you just copy and sometimes overwrite files without deleting the older ones. hence at times these older files may create bugs\instability. hardrest donot always fix it.so we use MTTY
but the thing is, mtty is and can be hard to use for new users. ... for me,, i was having the worst time installin the drivers needed to run mtty on win7 x64. so u i made this tool for me and for all

I do not understand how this is possible, I am using Vista and this is as easy as flashing a ROM with a computer. You just connect the device via USB to the Diamond, let active sync finish. Then you just need to run "ROMUpdateUtility.exe" and follow the instructions.
I have tested this, and I can confirm this is working for the European HTC Diamond (bought in Portugal).
This was not made by me, but I do think that more people will benefit with this program. Hopefully people will overcome the initial resistance to change.
Great idea!
I used to MTTY through VMWare Windows XP x86 within my host Windows 7 x64. It was a pain in the ass to get though but it always worked for me. This is a great time saver!
Regards to both of you Johev and agent_47!
Willing to test on my next flash.
Best regards,
Cina.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- take our batti and then flash a rom using mSD cardor by taking device into bootloader and using customRUU to load ur favorite ROM

What do you mean? take out battery?
Gonna try this with my next flash
Yeah, the sentence is a bit odd to me to
i asume it means take out battery but still..
i'm not gonna try it until i know it for sure!
--edit--
i couldn't help it and used it anyway..
i assumed "take our batti" means take out battery cuz it worked for me!
my diamond was clean (i guess) and i'm now enjoying a new rom!
Thanx guys!!
I would never post something that I did not test first.
I am glad that you liked it, and I really think it is much simpler then the mitty thread.
Good luck flashing.

I LOVE THIS TOOL
this isn't good for my ORD.. i'm flashing the hell out of my diamond now!
Getting a HD2 in about a month.. can't wait for it ;D
I tried it, but I only get the start screen with "Touch diamond", no bootloader.
But I´ve installed HARDSPL Olinex, because I already flashed other ROM´s.
How can I solve this problem?
What about battery? When I have to get it out, when I can put it in again...?
fibula
to get into bootloader you have to reset your device while holding the volume down button!
then you will get the tri-color screen,
connect your diamond to your pc and flash a rom with a RUU!

To get into bootloader with my diamond:
1) Turn Diamond off, take out battery for 5 seconds.
2) Put battery back inside, and press and hold the centre button (circle) and turn ON the device (hold both buttons) until you see a 3 colour screen
If step 2 does not work, try pressing holding volume down while turning the device on (hold the ON button too). Remember to take out the battery before you do this.
Hope this helps.
Hi!
Does this work by simply copying any ROM's nbh file (instead of radio*.nbg) to folder and executing ROMUpdateUtility.exe? Will it MTTY before flashing the ROM?
Currently I'm trying this method out. It is around at 50% of flashing progress.
I'll report back.
Cina.
thanks a ton dude.... magnificent work...
Now if there were only a way to do it directly from Internal Storage, without RUU...
It does not work the way I described. It hangs on HTC Diamond black boot screen and no red lines appears in lower right corner (no OS recognized).
So you have to flash 2 times. Radio flash is shorted for the first attempt and on the second turn you flash your ROM with CustomRUU.
There is a similiar tool like this with the method working with other devices I described above. FlashaholicRUU. Someone give it a try for Diamond. Next week I'll do it and report back.
Cheers,
Cina.

I remember to see that post on xda developers front page short time ago, but I was not sure if it would work for HTC Diamond.
A universal task29 that would format and flash the device in one single process.
Ironically it was developed a few weeks after I have found an alternative way to mitty that I posted here.
So far I did not hear that it was compatible with Diamond, so I will not risk it.
It's nice to have all these options, because when I searched for something like this a few months ago, I could only find the mitty threat that has more than 80 posts.
For me it was strange as newer devices with very similar hardware and software already had something like this, but Diamond users had to use mitty.
Well I am glad that you like it, and hopefully I helped someone that was not able or willing to do it manually.
