I've been the owner of an HTC P3300 for almost 1,5 years and I'm seriously considering of abandoning the device. My main reasons for abandoning the device:
- you have to use the stylus too much. Face it: Windows Mobile simply isn't made for finger usage. Too many buttons, tabs, menu's etc are too small to control with your fingers in a comfortable way
- the device is getting too slow. I've been annoyed more and more lately about the speed of the processing capabilities of the device
- The good Artemis cookers have left us. There's little hope that the 'perfect' finger friendly rom will ever be cooked in the future. (no offense to the other rom cookers that are still there)
Strictly speaking about functionality the Artemis and any other recent Windows Mobile wins against an iphone. Speaking about usability, after 1,5 years always running the latest customised roms (B&B 3.7, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 5.0 & Artemis Touch 4.01, 4.02, Oops Black v1.0) I think that I am tired in spending time in trying to improve the capabilities of a device by constantly upgrading and reinstalling stuff which should be provided by the company ofering the device on the market.
Looking at the iphone, it has a high level of usablility, it's finger friendly from its launch as it should be, runs smoothly, and its software is constantly being improved. I will never have to start installing addons or hacking registry keys to improve the usability of the OS itself.
That sayd, i''m gonna buy an iphone next week Good luck in the future all you guys with your Artemis, but i've had it with it!
BTW, I just notice my signature is already way out of date
I already have 5 HTC devices but no Artemis yet...
I voted yes because Artimes is much the same as some of my devices and I'm happy with them. I will be getting an Artemis for shure if I find a cheap second hand.
I would rader have a phone with all functions I need ...then a finger friendly Phone witch is missing some verry important apps
i'll be happy with it...my dad and cousin have it and they are ok with it,i had it and it was great...(i still maintain those two and they work like a charm)
if you decide to abandon it...i'll be happy to provide you my address (for shipping)
and i am willing to pay...both device and shipping
PM me if you want
thanks very much
Hi,
I couldn't miss my Artemis for the world, it was once in repair and I bought a new one second hand. I have it from 2006 now.
I find it perfect cause of the all in gsm+gps+wifi and perfect pocketsize and second hand price now +-€250 is relatively cheap, newprice around €350 (bought it for €550! in 2007!). It's no too small and not too big.
1- Have no problems with Artemis concerning stylus and there are 'fingertouch' programs or roms. I have the resco big keyboard for sms and picturedial in one fingertouch.
2- Processorspeed : nothing wrong with it!!!
I use gps (IGO8 heavy graphics) & call via Bluetooth together, not slow in any way.
The rom i have is the Russian WWE rom with lots of ram free.
Wifi is also fast enough but I use laptop for bigger screen offcourse.
I have also mame-roms and tested lots of software, no speed problems.
With batterystatus you can overclock to 240mhz or something, but unnescessary, and remember, fast processor = battery exhaustion. In past i had the XDA 2i & E-ten G500 (both processors about 400-500MHZ, so double) but don't miss the 'faster' processor. Have my P3300 one week in my pocket now, and battery still 25% thanks 2 the TIO OMAP processor!
People say the processor is slow, but i wonder which applications they run together then??? Maybe pocket-photo-shop or do they edit movies or something ???
3-Actually I found out that the best cook is yourself. I never cooked a rom myself, but the smartest thing to do is take the lightest rom as a base, and put your own software on it. SPB Mobile shell for example for greater today looks, Greatball Samurai weather, ...
I test now and then new roms for fun if i'm not missing anything, but you own tuning is more fun and you know what you install, no unnescessary tools to remove...
I would only be prepared to buy a new device if the price is the same.
The HTC Diamond is nice for example, maybe within 2-3 years also €250 second hand.
Most advantage for P3300 is the SDHC cardslot vs Diamond has 3G (but don't miss it at the moment)
Cheers & enjoy our Greek God Artemis
Ciao,

still happy
Brought a used 02 Orbit from the UK for about $230 AUD delivered, have updated the Rom and find it fast and stable. it has everything I want except for HSDPA.
Having said that will more than likely buy a touch diamond when released in Australia ....
1. It has HSDPA
2. It is 19 grams lighter
3. Looks more modern with the flush screen
But in no hurry, as mentioned happy with the Orbit
Hi all,
Still happy with it.... obviously it'll not last forever but i believe that other devices are still "doing more of the same thing" and 2 years are not enough to throw away my 500€ device....
Regrats
i am still very happy with my artemis. i use spb mobile shell and that's all i need for finger friendliness (considering its a WM device...).
i am considering to get a touch diamond because it looks like the first device that is really a newer generation than the artemis (hsdpa, lighter, better look, better display and vga, more memory and faster processor). the touch diamond offers more in almost every aspect.
next time my provider wants me to profit from one of these outrageous offers i will probably get the touch.
I voted Yes, still happy!
The roms that are available are all pretty good, I'd say, and the things you're missing one widely can add using some Apps - just have a look at the Development and Hacking section.
As you've mentioned the iPhone there's enough people around who ported the interface to WM - sometimes better, sometimes not.
But even where the iPhone seems to be the state-of-the art these days in terms of usability (haven't tried it myself), there's one thing I'd be missing: free software!
Sure the Artemis never was actually really fast if you compare it to others.
Still it's fast enough for me, so the point of time when that'll change is still way ahead!
Cheers,
Markus.
I'm also still Happy with my Artemis. I could play with IPhone 3G and also with HTC Diamond, but I won't change to one of them.
IPhone's Menu is really terrible structured. The Sync Software of IPhone is Apple like unstable. And I don't need 3d TouchFlo wich is used in HTC Diamond.
I will change to a new Phone, when the finger friendly WM7 has arrived in a stable version.

Yup..still happy !
I had an upgrade recently and because I was bored (I have a low theshold for same ole same old) I got a Nokia N95, and a Blackberry Pearl, just so I can amuse myself.....but nothing prepared me for the withdrawal shock of giving up my Artemis.
Needless to say, those other phones are back in their boxes in the loft, and possibly soon on a website near you.
I wont be surprised if after a while you get fed-up with the iPhone and it's 'cult-like' approach to hardware and software, and start groping for your Artemis....which hopefully wont have been gone !
still happy with the artemis, but the voice in my head starts yelling "diamond !! go get a diamond"

I went twice in a mobile store to see Diamond. I did not felt like "I have to buy it". It 's beutiful but I m not sure it will be my next mobile. There are a lot of discusions about problems, alot of new roms, tweaks to make it faster. Why should I be in a such trouble? My Artemis is "flying" with Vanilla4.1.
Maybe Touch Pro or Xperia will make me change mobile (or find diamond in a really low price).
Voted Yes
I'm one of the first HTC users, started with Wallaby year's ago.
Since then I was happy with my Himalaya (still using as second mobile phone), not so much with Alpine (as there was never an WM5 or WM6 version) and never with the Blue Angel (too heavy and keyboard unusable).
My very best mobile so far is the Artemis.
Fast like no other, very stable and full of functions I do really appreciate (as for example GPS, FM Radio).
Last week I got my Diamond and I really regret to say, it's not worth to buy it.
Slow like chewing gum, the Touch screen is really annoing me as using the stylus I'm sick typing up to 3 times the same position to have the function working.
Say to me I'm old fashined, it's OK.
But so far I will stay with my beloved artemis
I'm still happy with my device for what it does. And it does a lot!
I've gotten bored with it from time to time but I always come back to it. It's stable, fast, very capable, and it's very intuitive. You don't HAVE to use the stylus because you have so many input options. For one, the buttons you complained about. You don't like the buttons? That's what makes the Artemis unique - it's a small keyboardless device, with plenty of input/navigation options. It's got the scroll wheel, a pointer, a scroll ball, I've added touchflo, and 11 hardware buttons (great to use with Hbutton). There's no reason anyone shouldn't be able to set this phone up exactly they way they want to get to everything you need quickly. The programs I use most are opened with the press of one button. And inputting text with my finger nail is easier to me than using a keyboard too.
If you're not satisfied with you phone, you probably don't have it set up right for yourself, or your just bored with it. But for productivity and intuitiveness, I personally think it's one of the best WM devices ever. I bought it not because of prestige or hype like the you know what phone, but because of the lack of complaints about common problems with the device. It has none! It has the most solid reliability history - way better than the TyTn II, Trinity, the Wing, or the Eten devices I was looking at before I bought the Artemis. All of these devices have common issues like, short memory, screens going bad, bad BT stacks, wacky software, slow (even with 400Mhz), ect. The Artemis does not have one common issue that everyone has except WM itself.
And the iphone, are you kidding me! You can't do half the stuff you can do on the Artemis on the iphone. And the 3G iphone has a bunch of issues with it right now. Don't understand why people think they're going to avoid issues by going with the iphone. If you're a multimedia person, yea, but if you actually use your phone for productivity, you will not be happy with the iphone. It doesn't even multitask! If you want an iphone because your needs have changed and it fits, I'm happy for you, but I totally disagree if you think the iphone is better than the Artemis when it comes to capabilty. It all depends on your needs, but the iphone would never suite my needs. All in all, this is the best WM device I've ever used, and I've yet to see something worth upgrading to - even the Diamond. How do you quickly switch from one application to another to copy and paste rapidly on a Diamond or a iPhone? I just press the "e" button on my Artemis that's mapped "to Alt Tab" which toggles btwn programs. I can easily do that because I've got 5 other buttons to use for other stuff. These phones barely have any to use. That's one of the reasons I love my Artemis.
And why is everyone so anti-stylus? You don't really have to use it but it's great for writing out whole sentences at a time.

yue extraclean, alternatively vanilla 4.01
i am currently selling my iphone 2g 16GB, which i thought would be a worthy companion to make me dump my P3300...as u read i am selling the iphone!
the p330 is an all-day gear machine, which combines a number of simply working devices in one: phone, tomtom navigator, ipod/music player, office synchroniser...and the lot...and all that for a mere 100 euros these days in ebay europe!
stuff iphones and the flashy design and screen...i need a companion that works, is maintainable (exchangeable battery) and doesnt need to be pimpered and cared for in a daily basis -
greetz
p.s. htc touch hd would be an alternative, but than again i just got used, after all those years, to simpply using my p3300 without worrying about a bump here or a shake there...
i bought p3300 around 3 years back. i am satisfied with its performance. i bought nokia n900 few days back. my younger brother told me to give him one of these sets - i gave n900 away. cant part with p3300. n900 seems to have a juvenile operating system. no proper applications. moreover with that big screen they dont have a proper media player like core player or pocket player. i find my p3300 with omap far too advanced. everything i need i have on it. i format it but dont flash it - in say 6 months.
i vote for p3300. and yes, no sissy iphone for me.
Yeah!
Even I voted Yes. Because I have bought it from 2007, and I every month change its rom, I get updated and enjoy my time.
On the other hand, the processor is also not too bad!
I f you want to use Phone, Office, or write messages, that is good with FingKeyb 2.1
By the Way, it's your wish to sell it.
Best Wishes!
Thanks,
Don't revive an ancient topic please
This topic has been originally posted in 2008. I bet the OP doesn't even have the device anymore. Secondly, it's in the wrong subforum.
Therefore this topic is closed.
As more and more Chef end their awesome work on the Hermes because they´ll buy a new device like MaHaRoX and Schap or brick their Hermes like PaY87 or Abusalza (PDA Corner), time for Hermes seems to come to an end after almost three years on the market.
Which device will be your next?
I think Touch Diamond Pro (Raphael)
Even jasjamming will cook again for that device. Check the new Raphael thread and you will see how many chefs are going there..
That was my first idea also - the Raphael.
What about the SE X1? It´s also produced by HTC, I guess.
i going to Raphael too...
my first thought: iphone 3 g or raphael
after second thought : raphael
Hi,
i hope htc have at next year 5 megapixel camera and real flash.
This 5 MP (more is better) Device is my Favorit.
The best mobile camera and real flash is in Samsung SGH-i8510.
Also not bad would be a GPU.
wfg
starbase64
i will stick on the hermes threads for unknown period. still waiting to get new 2nd hand hermes. i hope my old hermes came back on good condition (if possible) from repair centre. i 'll sell it to buy new device (hope with one i can handle 4 flavour of my rom).
i will keep my new hermes coz to many people have contribution for give me one. thanksssssss for all donators and hermes community
Im quite tempted To get a Raphael, blow my student loan on it, though I only just got my Hermes.
The problem is, that I normally get the phones when the great guys here at XDA have sorted out all the annoying problems (first Blue angel now Hermes)
Ill have to see what the early reviews ect say, and how many problems pop up.
I was thinking about getting a Kaiser, but its just the same phone with more ram, and iffy vid drivers ;/
"blow my student load on it"
hey keep it civil!
I am hoping to get a Kaiser within the next 2-4 months. Love my Hermes to death, but I would love to have built in GPS and a bit more available memory. Since I have T-Mobile US, I'm trying not to get anything too extravagant since they're slower than a snail to roll out 3G.
I'm going to stick with Hermes until Touch Diamond Pro comes to at&t in USA...looks like I'll see the rest of you guys in 2010.
Don´t worry! The Raphael is even not out in Germany until now.

Woopss! I blame Firefox spell checker and proofreading! sorry! all fixed now
I have been drooling over the Touch Pro all day, maybe if I can get it for £400
It will be my first "new" HTC phone!
Omnia
I'm thinking that the Samsung i900 (Omnia) will be my next device after the Hermes. Still WinMo, so I'm sure ROM updates will continue in my future, but it looks like it has everything that I want. We shall see -- I do love HTC devices...
maybe one of these.
touch pro, XPeria and omnia.
hmm
For me will be a kaiser, known issues already been 'fixed' by the doctors here, and plenty support. after that I will get a raphael, after it has been in distribution for two or so years.
same choose. in the end of year, or maybee later will jump to kaiser. when all troubles whith raphael gone, and his price become more polite. I realy love the backslide qwerty, only thing I miss is a little more bigger display.
Can anyone tell me, is a kaiser much faster than a Hermes, with the new drivers ect?
I just watched a vid of the touch pro, quite speedy, even with HTC's default rom.
Anyone got any pics of a kaiser running a new rom in action or anything? GPS would be nice, but I dunno if its much of an overall upgrade.
raphael???
hmm that's a dream for me now
but if i able to cook rom for this one, it will give me more experience
Guys and gals,
Being a WM user since probably 5-6 years, i am having a "faith crisis" :-(
I am a proud owner of TP2 running wm6.5, and am loving all the development, hacking and customisability you get with WM (thanks to this great community obviously).
Problem is i am being more and more drawn to android OS, and its rapid development, applications, net integration etc.
was wondering if there's anyone out there with rhodium having the same doubts??
Rhodium is bloody good piece of hardware, and its a shame to let it go, but looking at Hero....
well, its tempting. cant have both :-(
Well, my single biggest reason for buying a TP2 was the keyboard, so....
ditto, Keyboard is the main reason.
Keyboard Keyboard keyboard... and more customization and hacking then any other Mobile OS.

Why not just run Andriod on your Rhodium..........................
Hero has no keyboard and can not run WinMo (Not without a great deal of Dev work anyway) Rhodium can run Android with very little work required and you could still run WinMo too.............
Hope that helps persuade your reasoning...........
Rhodium looks way better too
Cheers,
Beasty
Agree with beasty.
Rhodium has keyboard that for some (like me) is a must!
Also Android is a young and unmature OS, perhaps in the future can be an option but not for now.
Just my 2 cents,
The TP2 because of WM customization, flexability, business use, rom flashing, tweeks, etc......
ok well w eneed someone to get started on androiid for the tp2 n now doghnut has native cdma
iPhone is 100% toy, Android phones are 90% toy, WM phones are 50% toy. Some of us have to do real work sometimes, and we're not buying our phones for the fart noise apps.

ROFL,
I wonder how many are using that on WM though, I know it is available..........
You are correct though, WM is purely for business use as its main function.
Android is coming up fast but still needs a lot of work to convince me to be my main PDA OS.
IPhone, so far behind, the kids can keep it.

According to the Engadget review of Hero, the Sense UI is quite sluggish. So all that glitters is not gold.

I an a tech junkie, computer geek through and through, but I feel like a complete n00b when I come on here. If you can help, I have a few questions that I think you can answer, or at least point me in the right direction.
First, I haven't dealt with WM since...I think 5.0 that I had on my HTC 8125 back in 2006 so please cut me some slack. I am going to buy a new phone but ATT has sh*t for good smart phones and unlocked HTC phones are expensive so I'll probably go with a chinese smartphone. I have 2 lined up, the first is a clone of the Touch Cruise called HTY T4242+ and the second is the HTC P3470 clone called Flagship P660+. Can you give me a hint which is better? I get the specs but I'm wondering if anyone has actually dealt with actual hardware of these 2 clones before.
And second, I'm looking to upgrade one of the phones to 6.5 but I have no idea how, is there any step by step tut out there that could help me or could someone throw one together? I have a Zune HD, and the Zune 4.0 software that runs on it is basically a simplified version of the main screen of 6.5 and I love it, but looking forward to Manila.
I may not be a guru, but I will say this: It's extremely unlikely that a chinese clone will get an official upgrade to 6.5, and being that there is probably not a huge enthusiast community for either of those, I'd say that an unoffical upgrade is out of the question. Not to mention that the methods detailed on this forum are only valid for HTC manufactured devices. I'd say that if you want a phone with 6.5, you'll have to at least purchase a clone that comes with 6.5, or buy a device with a large community of developers.
On another note, I'm on AT&T, and I really like the AT&T Tilt2. It comes with 6.5, and has tons of cooked ROMs and support here at XDA-Developers. Also, rumor has it that the high spec Sony XPERIA X10, running android, will make it to AT&T sometime next year. Hope that helps
Helped some, thanks. One comes with 6.5 and that sounds good right now. Do you know of any clone that has a good dev following? I can't afford a 400 dollar unlocked phone, ATT has a bogus concept that you have to buy the data plan to even get a smart phone.
I do hope they get an Android phone though, I hope someone comes up with a way to replace Windows Mobile with Android to it's very roots, not just an app but to be able to swap OSes through replacing files on actual hardware.
Man... my TP2 is Resting in Pieces...
im happy with what i got to do with it thx to xda devs...
but had issues with stereo bluetooth...with video playback.... and more generally with slow speed of the machine...
im wondering if i should go to HD2 but that baby lacks a keyboard...
or maybe wait on a TP3 ...
Ive been a htc guy for almost 6-7 years...but there was always something to complain about with them...
before buying the TP2 i thought it was the perfect machine...until i saw how slow the cpu was...and that the HD had twice its speed....that the wm system still needed rebooting often...
I hate apple, i dont feel like trying android...i think i will hate windows 7....
like i hated vista after XP...
i like my NRG romd on TP2 and now beeing able to run Rhobuntu feels amazing...especially with a real keyboard...
but after a year with the same machine...it doesnt feel right to put 300€ in another new TP2...
i know this thread is completly pointless... unless i get some good advice...
but i just had to let it out to my fellow TP2 owners
http://www.xpphone.com/en/ cant wait to see this in the stores
No go on spending 300 euro on a new TP2. So, how about spending 193 euro on a used TP2?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726801
as much as i love my TP2, compared to what they have out there now, the TP2 is outdated and slow. I'd try to pick up a snapdragon device if you're putting in 300 euros...seems worthless to buy outdated equipment.
Do you want to stick with WM6.5? or is there any chance you'd be willing to jump ship to android? I know this is semi-blasphemous in this forum, but i wouldn't mind a nice desire for myself (stupid ATT doesn't have any good phones. damn them!).
either way, good luck!
No offense, but you're likely making an unfair comparison.
The TP2 came with Sense 2.1. Thats what it was designed to use. Putting Sense 2.5, which was designed for another phone on the TP2, and expecting it to still perform well is unfair. It's like me putting Win7 on a computer thats 3 years old and originally shipped with WinXP. It might run, but its not gonna be pretty.
I spurned Sense altogether and went with SPB Mobile Shell. My phone FLIES. No lockups ever, better battery life, and I've grown to actually prefer the interface over time and with a lot of tweaking.
This aside, I agree with others that if I was in the market to buy a new phone right now, the TP2 is obviously outdated. Unless I was getting a crazy good deal (under $150), I'd go for something else.
Also dont forget that WM7 is likely coming out by year's end.
thx for everybody"s feedack...i actually went n bought a new TP2 for 220€ from a local ad...hoping insurance will upload me some $$
i did my unlocking with olipro app : thx for the great job on that
even though im having issues with the tp2...its a love hate relationship
i love what i can do with it...but i hate what the slow proc and maybe wm system does to me...
i really like the sense 2.5 interface but i started testing android and it seems promising... but i wouldnt go for a device with android only...i hope the port will be fully functionnal one day.
from the screens i see wm7 looks ugly so i doubt i will go for it...
i guess ill just have to keep this one clean for sale when the tp3 come out
its a shame windows/HTC are loosing the smartphone battle when they were the first ones on it...
most apps and games look like they are from the 80s compared to a iphone...
but i prefer by far sense 2.5 NRG rom with cookiemonster than than apple's interface.
