My friend wants to buy this phone from somebody, but it freezes after the T-Mobile logo comes out. Any ideas?

There are many reasons it may freeze. What you might want to do is get a fresh T-mobile windows mobile 6.5 official rom and flash it to the device. You can find those here in the xda-forums or around the net. Hope this helps

Tmobile's new ROM: has anyone installed it yet?

Hi! I've read about the new T-mobile rom, and I'm curious to install it on my mda exec. (I'm talking about the
UNI_TMUK_130114_130232_11003_WWE_BL101_Ship.exe file).
Problem is, no one on those forums has reported a successful install. Some mentionned the ROM and one person said it 'broke' their mda, but no one said "Yup, installed it, it works and updates your version numbers to x".
Would be nice to know your experiences using this new rom before trying it out :-D
Cheers!
no problem update . But i prefer dopoda rom. Tmobile has too much we don't need

BRICK
Hi i attempted an upgrade of the MDA Pro rom and now all i have is a grey brick. It now only sits in the boot screen and doesn't load any thing else but it does show the rom version to be updated and the radio.
After trying all the possible solutions suggested here to fix it i have had no luck so i am sending it back to T-Mobile for them to look at it and hopefully replace it.
Giving it back today, i'l let you guys know what happens in a few days.

Update
Ok guys so just to let you know what happened......
Well as i had last said i gave in my handset back to T-mobile and after two long weeks without my MDA Pro i called them up and was told that it was in store and ready to collect. The best part about it is that i have now a Brand new MDA Pro as the last one was unfixable and it also has the new rom and radio on it!
So it looks like everything is good!!
If you have a problem with your MDA after flashing it and you are still within your warranty period then take it back and get a new one!!

hey tabasco, thanks for the tip, i tried that but it didn't work, but now its ok because i have already recieved a brand new MDA Pro from T-Mobile as i have warranty on my Phone.
itwasntme187: Have you tried the SIM unlock tool on your device with that new T-Mobile ROM yet? And if so, did it work OK?
I havn't tried it yet, not because i don't want to, but because the lousy T-Mobile repair centre replaced my MDA Pro with a faulty handset which has a hardware fault on it so i have given it back yet again and am without it for yet another 2 weeks.
But hey at least i still have my BA thats keeping me going. I will unlock the MDA Pro when it comes back again this time and i'll let you guys know what happens.

8525 WM6 cingular exchange

so i just called to have a new 8525 sent out. Im running black 2.0 cingy....what do you guys think will happen? will cingular try to power on the phone and see its running wm6? will that qualify as voiding the warrenty? do you think they will charge me for the phone?

That wasn't the greatest idea you may have had before.
If they do turn it on, they will void your warranty. So, from what I've heard they will more than likely charge you full price for the replacement. ($600 or whatever it is now).
You really should have re-flashed your phone before sending it in... just pray they don't power it up.
(and if you bricked your phone from improperly flashing it, that's the risk you take from modding your phone, and you should have just taken one for the team.)
Good luck!
If you have not sent it in yet, re-flash with the Cingular ROM. Otherwise you will get a bill for $600.00

I agree with this, but the problem is, where is the original CINGULAR ROM? The "Cingular" ROM posted in the Wiki section of this site is actually an at&t branded ROM. The ROM that came on my 8525 purchased only a few weeks ago (and subsequent replacement) had a Cingular branded ROM (Cingy logo bootscreen, no anmiated boot, Cingy logo/background/icons on the Today Screen, etc.).
I was having issues with the backlighting on my phone so I took it up the Cingy store to have it exchanged. I tried everything I could do to keep the sales rep from booting up the phone, but he did and then couldn't understand how I got an at&t branded O/S on it. Luckily, one of the other sales reps said "Hey, look... We just got in a new Razr with the at&t badge and O/S!!". The sales rep I was dealing then said "Yeah, this guy's 8525 has an at&t O/S as well, but he bought his a couple weeks ago...". Needless to say, I played dumb and quickly made a mad dash for the door with my replacement handset before they could ask any further questions.
Anyway, it'd be nice if someone could find and post the Cingy branded ROM. Maybe it's already on the site somewhere and I just didn't see it...??

Well Cingular = AT&T now so as long as it was a released AT&T rom you are good, though I am guessing it wasn't. You can download the roms by going to www.cingular.com clicking on support (make sure 8525 is your phone) then click on HTC site link.
Once there select cingular as the carrier and 8525 as the model, click software/downloads
and click download.
Easy.

Here is the "official" cingular ROM currently released to the public .. straight from the HTC support website.
Now, whether you can simply run the RUU and re-install this over Black 2.0, I am not really sure ... others will have to weigh-in on that one.
Or goto htcamerica.net and all the carrier roms are on there too.
Allright,
as with the last poster, go to www.htcamerica.net and reflash. Because as a cingular representative, I can tell you that there is a 50/50 chance not in your favor that they'll deny your warranty exchange and send you a $600 phone bill.

I have a feeling one of the fine folks on this site will know here to get it if you can wait a little bit before sending it in. If not, I'd at least flash it down to the at&t/Cingy WM5 ROM. At least it will be their ROM and the correct WM release. You can play dumb like I did if they question you about it. Just say that's how it came from the store. If they push you on it, say something like, "First, I'm offend by your perveted comment!!! I have no idea what 'flashing' or this ROM you speak of is. Second, are you telling your store sold me a used phone?? Well then I either want a replacement ASAP of I want all charges refunded immediately!!". Push it back on them.
You should be fine putting the old version on. I worked for me at least...
Wow, I guess I'm sloooow to pull the trigger. Lot of answers already.
Yes, I know Cingular = at&t. However, that didn't keep the Cingular rep from questioning why/how I had an at&t branded ROM. I assume the phones with the at&t ROM will have the at&t brand/logo on the shell. Not a Cingular logo on the shell with the at&t ROM. I assume this would waive a red flag to the warranty repair folks...

If you've flashed HardSPL, you'll also need to downgrade to the stock Cingular SPL 1.06.
Just got one

That was the other piece I was forgetting ... if folks really want to get their device back to its out of the box crappy state.
Since I have never tried to downgrade my SPL, I am not really sure how to do it (though I bet the answer is on the wiki).

This helped me out alot when I had to Downgrade when I sent my phone in for MFGW work.
There is a STEP BY STEP Guide to down grade to WM5 (orig cingy) and then read more of the thread and it will tell you what you need to do to get the SPL back to orig cingy too. Same should go for IPL if you managed to upgrade that as well.

there isn't any difference. do the same steps with the wm5 rom as you did with wm6. there is thread here discussing this at length.

I called T-mobile and got my Dash Replaced because I was sick of the restart bug. The one they sent as a warranty replacement had WM5 on it. I just stuck with that ROM.
why didn't you just flash back?
no wonder carriers hate putting out new software. people can't figure it out and cry for a new phone.

I take some offense to that. No one has been able to come up with a real solution for the restart problem with the T-mobile WM6 ROM. Others who flashed back wrote that things were missing from the ROM. I am not someone who just quits on new software without trying to figure it out. I troubleshoot for a living and just got sick of the issue, didn't feel like Hard reseting yet again, called My Carrier and they offered this as a solution while they wait for something to come out from Microsoft. I didn't "Cry for a New Phone", it was the solution offered and I took it.

Free 8525

Recently I dropped my 8525 and now the phone does not work. Everything else seems to work fine though, just can't make/receive calls, texts.
I have tried flashing several ROMs to try and fix the problem. Any ROm without a radio will flash fine. It will freeze if there is a radio in the ROM or I try flashing a radio. I believe there is a hardware break in the radio soldering.
I have bought a new phone and am willing to donate the broken one to anyone who would like to try ROMS on it without worrying about bricking their phone or for any other development use. Not for someone who wants to try to fix it and get a free phone. All I request is you pay for shipping. I am in the US.
I'll take it PM Sent. I got my 8525 jacked at school and i regret it each time i remember it. I just started cooking ROMs for the 8925 and i have a some friends who would like me to cook for 8525 so i can try it out with this device. Btw, i am also in the US in souther California.

That is a nice thought, but I do not have any hardware circuitry knowledge. So keeping a phone that is broke and breaking it more and then finally throwing it away does not seem like it would be helpful at all. Giving it to someone who does have the knowledge to possibly fix it so they can share the information on how seems a lot more productive.
Hey thanks for the negativity though.
as for giving it to someone I know, no one I know wants a phone that cannot make phone calls.
if possible, u can give it to me...

Focus Demo Mode

I bought a focus on craigslist which I am assuming was the store demo because after a minute the demo comes up. Is there a way to get rid of this?
I think you have to flash the stock focus rom to get it out of demo mode. Have you tried to hard reset?
Did you get a box and all accessories for that phone? If not it was probably stolen.

I think you are right. I haven't seen any stock focus ROMs floating around. And I doubt a carrier or samsung would be much help.
I tried to do a factory restore using zune thinking it would work like itunes restore but it just gives me an error. Guess I'll have to be patient and hope a rom shows up.

You might be in luck. There are Omnia 7 roms and apparently the boys over at the Hacking and Development section have managed to make roms destined for HTCs devices work with Samsung. I cant quite recall the details.
You would be better off asking over there!
