Soft Reset Many Times a Day [is it just me?] - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

is it just me or does everyone have to soft reset many times a day after a few days of flashing a new ROM, i have tried all the popular ROMs. it seems to be more so with ROMs using the HTC messaging service, and also Sense, and 6.5. The only ROM i have ever used that has had no problems on either the Rhodium or Raphael has been the Stock Tilt 2 ROM- but i can't stand not having the newest stuff- is it just me, or does everyone have to soft-reset often?

I never have to soft-reset my phone, though I shut it down overnight. Could it be a problem with programs you're adding on top of the ROM ?

This is What i add
Code:
Toleraen Tilt2KWKeyboard
Advanced Config
tarkim Keyboard Controller
kPen SafeInbox Extender
Skyfire
Sorg Swype
HTC Skin for Swype
nanling QuickMenu
Sarcy's 6.5 Nokia Font
Total Commander
MyPhone
Google Maps
Livven Gloss Themes
Also seems to lessen when i use Titanium, but i would much rather use Sense

Have you tried the ROM mentioned in my sig? Although our device is much better with Sense 2.1, the new versions of Sense 2.5 ROMs are deadly quick. One thing that I learned was to flash the stock ROM then flash any cooked ones. As was mentioned above, trial and error could be the only way to determine why the need for soft-reset is present.

yeah i just flashed back to the stock rom and now i'm going to flash e2's clean sense 2.1 ROM
i think its rooted in sense 2.5 and the messaging service
i'll install everything again like i do on the stock rom and see if it still works, if not then i guess i'll have to go one by one. i would really love to use 2.5 though, because the homescreen with shortcuts is awesome

yea its sense 2.5 and HTC messaging client that slows it down for me...so i stick to sense 2.1...never have to reset...alsoo trying to make my own stripped down version of sense 2.5 seeing how that will go

Do you perform a hard reset everytime after that you have flashed a cooked rom? It's recommended by some people. I do it always and I never have to soft reset. Give it a try.

there are ways of disabling the HTC messaging service.
Here's my way of disabling HTC Messaging (thanks to amarullz's files )
I'd do as recommended above. Flash a rom, hard reset, run the rom for a day and see how it works out for you, then install the apps one by one till you figure out whats causing you problems.
I soft reset max twice a day, and not because the phones running slow or anything, just like to keep it nice and fresh

Has anyone used b&b 4.3 AND Touch 3.01?

As post title, has anyone on here actually used b&b 4.3 AND Touch 3.01?
Everyone that posts seems to have a preference between the two, but most people are judging the newer version of one against an older version of the other.
I would like someone who has used both to give their opinions on each and which one is better?
I am currently using b&b 4.3 and its wicked, but it seems to have slowed down a lot after some customisation so I am thinking of swapping to Touch 3.01 if its faster with similar features.
Cheers
I've tried them all
Meschle's tend to be faster than Tom's... and I'm not a huge fan of all black schemes...
I was using BB for a while, but found it slow, and switched to Premium Plus, which was ok, but also slowed down after a while.
I've now reverted to Vanilla 2.01 (a couple of days ago) and put on the Apps I need seperately, and speed, performance and battery life are much much better and instantly noticeable improvement, despite having to load on all the extras like Hbutton etc, and I don't overclock at all.
I tried both.
I agree with you guys that BB slows down after customization and installation of my favorite apps.
From the day Artemis Touch 3.01 (full no cube) released I use it till now. Very fast even with many apps installed. Plus memory leak is less than BB.
I 'm very happy with it. I will change it only if a newer release comes out.
Meschle did a great job (not that Tom did not ).
To me, the appearance of the rom is extremely important, and Tom's is much more graphically engaging than Meschle's.
Regarding speed, it hasn't really slowed down for me.
I only used Meschle's rom for a couple of days and probably would have stayed with it if the graphics (e.g. HTC Home buttons) were as good as Tom's.
Props to both chefs.
For me:
I've tried the touch 3.01 for about two days. It slowed down my htc and a I lost
plenty of storage..
So I changed to B&B. Now I'm very happy with this rom. It suits my requirements best.
I have a lot of storage left. And nearly no storage goes lost.
I'm realy satisfied with this rom - so I'm looking forward to the new release 5.0
Thx a lot Tom!
bye
peter
I installed Mesche Meschle Touch 3.01 Full with cube on the day it was released(11/11/07). Very happy with it, no hard reset until now. Soft reset usually about once a week. I would not change, only to update.

A hard reset is as the name suggests, it's a function of the hardware, it's not software dependent, with the two softkeys held down, press the reset button, you'll then be presented with a confirmation.
Yes i do this, but then write, that you must press send button to hard reset it, but ayn button i press it, is my orbit not hardreseted??? Which button is mean for send button?
I switched from B&B 4.3 to Touch 3.1 Lite without cube and I find the Touch rom is faster and more stable. The memory leak seems to be less of a problem than with B&B but they are both fine roms.

'Send Button' = the green phone button (for answer / initiate calls)
I've tried the Touch 3 and BB 4.3. Toms ROM looked great and was pretty fast but I didn't load up all my applications on it. I didn't really like the P-Bar prog as much as the simple X-Button. Also, his ROM was kinda light. A lot of people like that but I like not having to add a bunch of programs to get it the way I want it.
The Touch ROM was my favorite. W/cube there was a little mem drain but not much at all. It had most of the applications I was used to and was pretty fast. I would have kept the ROM but I was experiencing some problems with it that no one else seemed to have. So I switched to the Premium Plus ROM and it seems to be the perfect ROM for me. Pretty stable and functional if you soft reset once a week.
I don't care as much about the look as I do about functionality and stabilty. To me, Tom's ROM just didn't do that much. The way I figure, the more applications you have cooked into the ROM already, the less stuff you have to add, hence, slowing down the device and or unknown software conflicts. So I say pick the ROM that requires the least customization.

HELP PLEASE Clean ROM for SPB Mobile Shell 3

I have a Diamond that my wife has just started using and she really cant get her head round TF3D as she is used to push picture favorite contacts and she cant seem to get used to the sliding around. She really doesnt need it to be fully featured as she wont surf, use facebook etc. Its just for sms, contacts and a good interface. I looked at Titanium but I dont like the UI.
SPB Mobile shell seems to be the easiest and fastest solution.
I have tried a couple of full featured 6.5 ROMS here and with SPB mobile shell installed and you generally get so little RAM left over it hangs and then she is coming back to me saying the phone is a load of rubbish.
I know there is a good usuable phone in there (its in mint condition) but need to know what ROM is recommended to do this with, ie. that TF3D is not on there, mobile shell runs, and I am not likely to hang it.
As all the threads here seem to be WM6.5 lately, does anyone think one of these will be ok, or shall I look for a 6.1. I am an avid reader of the forum and I know people hate being asked what ROM but if there is someone out there with a little experience I will really appreciate it. Even an old reliable ROM would be OK, as the SPB MS3 will be doing the work.
I have already spent the last week trying a few ROMS and they stat off OK then the hanging starts and its back to the beginning.

Hi. I tried your ROM from post #4 and although the RAM figures were good, I got all the SPB MS3 loaded and configured nicely, on three occasions yesterday it hung, and when I soft rest using the red button, it started again as if from a Hard Reset and I would lose everything and have to then spend another hour reinstalling again. I respect everything you do in your work but I really wonder if this phone is capable of running WM6.5.
These are what I installed:
SPB MS3
Sense Revolution 2 Theme (with mortscript and message2reg)
thumbcal
g alarm
phone canvas
This brought the RAM usage up to around 75%.
It took an age to boot up everytime and would hang very often.
I tried using it myself in TF3D and not installing anything, and found that I couldnt call anyone from the contacts menu. The only way it works is using the phone dialer.
I am currently running Benko Clean v2.0, it is super quick and is a basic 6.5 ROM, which comes with Titanium (turn it off) and loads of RAM left over for another UI

Its WM 6.5, though
Will this work and chew up what is a small battery even quicker?
I'm using the Aztor V2 ROM with SPB MS3. I have PUSH email on so activesync is running all the time.
I did a soft reset last around 23:00 last night, received about 8 emails and used TomTom for 30 minutes and I've got 58% program memory used. I don't get significant lag on anything. It doesn't crash (often)
Aztor V3 has just been released, I've not had chance to look at it yet though.
Check out the thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=422417
Generally a good ROM IMHO.
I am using Cloudy 1.3. It's very fast and light.
I suggest changing it's pagepool to 10 MB with Pagepool Changer, because it makes it a bit faster

Is this a clean /lite ROM?
Has anyone used BsB's 6.5.1A? It seems to be without TF3D.
Does anyone think that it would be better to just go to something like Dutty's V3.6b LITE, I mean I know its WM 6.1 but don't his ROMs have a reputation for stability?

clean, yes, lite no.
AZTOR stand for - Alpha Zero Tweaked Official Roms - IOW Alpha Zero takes the officially released ROM (6.1) and removes the bloated rubbish and adds several tweaks to make the ROM run smoother and quicker using less memory.
Nice
The easiest way is to try some of these ROM's, I know it can take a while to reconfigure everything but it's the best way to find out which is best for your personal needs - we're all different, that's why there's (thankfully) so many cooks
The main thing is disabling TF3D/TF3D2/titanium in the settings ->today section before installing SPB3. And also, phone canvases can use up to 10mb of additional RAM. So if you're into having a ram efficient phone, don't use phone canvas, use the standard WM dialer...
As for 6.5 i was pleased with BSB... now i am using Gen.Y, with TF3D2.1 and Tachi VGA dialer (they come with the rom), plus i'm using S2U2 and i get around 30-35mb of ram free (that's 34% of ram free the most).

I think I will give BSB a try and if it is the same I will probably go back to Duttys WM 6.1
Download the 6.5R edition. That's the non 6.5.1 version. The latest version is a bit...unstable. I have just flashed it and i already think i don't like it. Download pre-last version - my opinion.

But if Free Ram is important isn't the Version2.0 ROM's in Post # 2 better? Or does post boot up the Ram usage go up? Maybe I am missing something
[Version 3.2]
After installing the ROM :
Free main memory : 140.37 MB
Free RAM (At boot up) :45%
Version 3.2 [28 August 2009] [Re-Edited]
After installing the ROM :
Free main memory : 128.00 MB
Free RAM (At boot up) :58%
Version 2.0 [22 August 2009]
After installing the ROM :
Free main memory : 127.00 MB
Free RAM (At boot up) :59%
If I was giving my phone to someone else I'd put the stock ROM back on it... everything's guaranteed to work as HTC intended that way, and it's how I'd want a phone given to me by someone else.
Another Vote for BsB 6.5R. I'm Currently using it with SPB Mobile Shell 3.
About 47MB Free RAM After everything is up and Super speed!

I agree with you, and I tried that too, but it is the wifes first excursion into HTC land and she just found all the sliding around a bit cumbersome on the Diamond Screen. Hence a simple ROM, no bells and whistles, with a simple SPB MS3 interface, that is push button and there.
Unfortunately, the only customization you can do with TF3D is rearrange the tabs, delete some of them and slide the people tab up and down for favourites. If there was a way to have the favourite contacts page (with push button pictures) instead of the scrolling. The 'Programs' tab make it better but that is it.
I am an HD user and with WM6.5 and I love TF3D with latest Manilla, and I would have put that on the Diamond too, but the poor Diamond is just not up to running WM6.5, TF3D, Manilla 2.1 and be able to use the camera or browse albums, there isn't enough RAM or processing power. She will be handing it to me every 5 mins and asking 'what's it trying to do now?'

Never ever had crashes on the Kaiser so I was wondering why as I know you guys do a good job.
I have tried
Bxsteez Rhodium Lite & Sexy v2.1
miri 23017
EnergyROM_RHODIUM_20090914_StandardM2.5

Tom_Rhodium_Manila2.5_Build_23016_v1
Tom_Rhodium_Manila2.5_Build_23049_v1
Touch-IT Leo I_Rhodium
I have tried them both with the standard radio and with 4.46.25.24
At a loss really as the standard roms are no where near as nice as the custom's
Any idea's
Thanks
Graham
what are you doing when it crashes(if anything)?
What carrier are you with, what is the model of the phone?
ie.. my model is the T7373 (Tmobile)
Well, you DO know that Manila 2.5 is still beta, right? There are bugs with it.
Try downloading *more* ROMs with Manila 2.1. If you still continue to crash with those, I would suspect hardware issues (RAM or processor perhaps).
Avoid Manila 2.5 while it's still in development.
If you want stable, I recommend trying EnergyROM 20090922 (Standard).
Not a lot really, the touch flo crashes non stop or is very slow to respond after phone has been in stand by, also if slide to unlock has been on the phone will defiantly need a restart so I turned that off.
The Energy Rom is my current favourite and that needs restarting 2-3 times a day and freezes are so random.
Well it looks like he has tried 2 ROM's so far that are v2.1 Manila.
If he is getting the same result with both 2.1 and 2.5 where the phone is crashing, it may not be the ROM that is the issue.
What about the radio
Official Orange rom and official HTC don't crash at all although can slow at points.
Thanks
Graham
Graham,
Easiest option is to try the ROM I suggested, just to be sure - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=553506
Failing that, could be hardware as others suggest.

I'm running Standard, which includes Manila 2.1 (very stable).
I am using the NRG Genesis ROM older version (30 August I think) - I don't use Manila (although I think 2.1 is included) as I use MobileShell, and I think I have soft reset once since I flashed the ROM (and that was to apply some changes I made).
In due course I will upgrade to the latest for theodd tweaks but this is the most stable combination of phone and ROM i have ever had.
(I should add that I have not tried any of the other 23016 based ROMs yet and so am not saying they are not as stable - I upgraded to fix bluetooth issues and have not felt the need or had the time to flash any others)

The ROM thread I linked has lots of info. However, 'Titanium' is the name given to the Windows 6.5 homescreen plugin. Many people prefer Manila over Titanium.
I should add that this ROM is only an example of a stable one. There are many other stable ROMs from other chefs, but in your case, you need to eliminate the possibility of hardware. Also, avoid installing any additional programs for a day or two, just in case there's some software conflict causing your problems.
Good luck.
Its already faster and already appears more stable well speedy
Crashy roms
... I also use Standard Energy rom from 17092009. It is rather stable, but consumes battery ower to much as per me. I set up screen backlighting to auto and switched off pushing of emails through exchange server. Now it lasts about 12 hours (previously 5).

Suggestions for a ROM for me. Please! Anything is appreciated!

Hey guys, school just finished so I have finally had time to play with my phone and mess with apps/ROMs. I used to run the Energy ROM, i flashed up to the new energy ROM but there wasn't anything i liked about it. Except I loved the Start button in the bottom row along with the soft keys. I have also tried the Valkyrie ROM (didn't like it at all) and the Leo Evo ROM, which was pretty nice except it runs slow and it seems kind of glitchy. In about 30 of straight use, I had to run a couple of soft restarts. Other than that I wouldn't mind the LEO Evo ROM.
I liked the older Energy ROM i was on, however I really want the Start button in the bottom left hand corner. I was trying to look for a cab for this, but was unsuccessful.
I wouldn't be opposed to trying a different ROM Im open to anything. I typically like to run the Windows Titanium screen because it runs faster than Sense for me, im a big texter, and I don't have data plan, so I need easy WiFi setup and workability (although this is no problem with the Keyboard Controller, I have it set to the back mute key, finally found a use for it, eh? haha). So lets hear what you guys got for me!
EDIT: Also, Is there a way to access the task manager with the Start button in the bottom left corner, besides going to start, then tools then task manger or whatever
I was also looking into the Titanizer, anyone know anything about how well it works? Thanks
I went through a few roms before installing Leo Cell Evo 9.1 (23XXX Build). While I was happy with roms I went through first, I was impressed with the Leo Cell Evo rom. There are so many things that you can customize to make it truly yours. You can also stick with how it installs and be more than satisfied with it. In the rom, the "Tweak Tools" are available under the programs tab and all the options are there. 3 thumbs up from me.
I have had good luck with the Energy roms with Titanium only. In order to get the start menu button in the bottom curtain you just need to flash a rom with a build in the 23xxx series. The 21xxx series roms are with the start menu on the top curtain. I find the 21xxx roms to be more stable and I like having the task manager at my disposal and to be able to take a quick glance at my memory usage as well with the 21xxx rom.

Wow, I like almost everything about the NRG ROMs. I would suggest that you pick your ROM and then stay with it for a week or so to get to know how it works. NRG ROMS in particular need to be tuned to make battery life longer, and the battery gauge is not so accurate for the first few days. I like the tools that he cooks into the ROM.
Yeah well with the 23xxx series, I was really satisfied withe the NRG with the bottom start menu but there were a lot of things that glitched here and there. Like for some reason, it took me forever to try to get rid of the keyboard once it came up in total commander or something like that.
This is what I have stuck to the longest so far. I have little things that bother me a lot, thats why I have been flashing a lot. Along with using the Titanium theme I use an app from the Marketplace called "Home Screen Customizer" which lets you remove and reorganize your ascreen and add an "Apps" page. I also threw in a Facebook and MS Office tab from the second link. But I think my final decision is cooking this ROM in the link with some apps and games from other ROMs. I'm not looking forward to all the work though. haha.

You said you didn't like that rom, what didn't you like about it? If don't like the layout, you always change it yourself. But if you want a really stable and fast rom, you should check it out again.

its not so much the layout as the little things that bug me. I tried that built you suggested and it was nice but for some reason it always sent me a confirmation text saying that my last text I sent out was sent. I tried disabling it when I went into Message Options- then uncheck the box for delivery confirmation. I posted on the Valkyrie thread about it maybe there is a fix for it. I tried different styles but I like the standard threaded SMS (similar to the 6.1 style).

great! thx
How about some more info.
does it have a radio program, quickgps, a usefull keyboard with t9 and multiple languages, wich sms app are you using
etc etc.
it seems like you have made a very barebone rom, with a nice looking theme, which could be very good, but i hope it also has all the basic stuff included.
I've allready tried the previous rom and i like it very much. One minor problem i have is that when i switch display to landscape (opera) the keyboard doesn't fit to screen. Is it possible to have a fix for this?
Thank you
very good ROM, fast, but i am unable to send sms messages, does any one have this kind of problem ?

Nope, SMS is working fine. By the way, really nice looking ROM, so even Titanium looks nice now
can you please add a screenshot of the programs /system screen (icons) or list what programs/tools are inside this basic image? Useful to get an idea what needs to be added.
Well done again, on a winner.
Reporting the same bug as your other rom: the sliders don't respond when an alarm or call occurs while the screen is locked (until the very bottom of the screen is touched).
Same bug here... I can only answer by pressing the keypad button.
Also i tried to open the x2 task manager but i cant. I can see a process running but when i open task manager i see the usual one. One more issue is that i cant disable 3g from new comm manager.
Hmm!
I been looking for a room that actually stands out a little but still remains simple, this might very well be it
As others pointed out - the non-responsive sliders, when locked, are annoying..
A few things in short:
1. MMS?
2. Disable 3G?
3. CHome editor or eq?
4. Opera instead of IE on Fav. panel?
And I can't figure out how to get to the taskmanager, not the standard one, but he one on one of your pics?
Otherwise very promising
seems good but megaupload service is temporarily not available from hong kong, any other links, thx a lot!!
...in test..
...i question but radio 1 17 is necessary rillphone in your rom ?
thank for reply !
I use 1.11.25.01 and no problem
I think your rom missing many functions, like: MMS, Opera, or maybe some tweaks like other Rom. So I think you can cook your rom base on some other kitchen like BSB (The most Great Rom of wm 6.5.x).
I love your porting UI. It's great for wm 6.5.x. Wait for your next rom
this it's power rom!!
is it worging video call?
your rom looks really nice...
however can you add more languages for the keyboard? the auto suggestion would be good for me.
the com-manager in "settings"-->"connections" seems to be there 2 times but with different icons (same for usb to pc i think)
Keep up your good work!

first of all my ROM is not missing the essential programs. If you are talking about Opera then its readily available. Some people like Opera Full and some like Opera Mini, so i left the descision on user to install what they like. About MMS, most of the people rarly use MMS, since email costs much less. So its not an incomplete ROM.
And you said that this ROM is missing many tweaks. Did you tested my clean ROM? Ashok V2 Titanium_Clean? This ROM have more free Memory than many other clean ROM based on WM6.5.5. Have you seen any rom with WM6.5.5 23673 for diamond? So how can you say that I should use BSB or any other kitchen!!!
And furthermore if you want test speed, stability, free memory then read comments on the thread of my TITANIUM_CLEAN ROM. And this ROM is based on that same my kitchen.
