HTC Touch Pro2 - New User Questions - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hello,
Well i have finally gone and joined the elite ranks of owning a phone with the Windows Mobile OS.
Usually been a blackberry user who went to the HTC Magic and has just given up on the Google Android OS (is that a dirty word around here?).
So i purchased the HTC Touch Pro2 based on a recomendation from a very jealous workmate. Am still waiting for delivery but have a few queries he thought i should ask on here to get a good varied level of responses.
1. HTC Touch Pro2 - Good phone?
2. Vodafone ROM - I believe the ROM vodafone use (UK) screws the phone up a bit. So those who use Vodafone and still have their ROM installed... what do you think of it?
3. ROM - Any recomendations on the best ROM? I understand their are many out there and all do various things but just trying to get a view of what people prefer.
4. SPB Shell - a must have?
Thats really it i guess... just trying to get a feel of the OS and issues before i start tinkering.
Thanks!

Welcome to forums
1. Yes!! one of the best actually!
2. Before flashing, be shure to learn how and to identify if your Rhodium is CDMA or GSM
3. There is no such thing as the best ROM, what is best for me could not be for you. Try the more you can till you get your best.
Check ROM section and see the threads with more reads/posts this way you´ll have an idea what members prefer more
4. I do not like spb, I´m quite happy with Manila/Sense 2.1, no need to install another external heavy app
Read, Search, Respect and Enjoy!

HI all ..i just ordered tp2 from ebay since its yet not launched here in india.actually there was one sprint phone and one unlocked ohone listed there ..sicne i wanted 3.5 mm jack and the fact is i quite did not like the silver key board on the unlocked phone, i opted for sprint...
my question is how do i upgrade it to win mo 6.5..the seller says
"If you want I can send you the 6.5win mob file along with the stock (original ROM) and the procedure to upgrade and if not happy then downgrade to original rom."
but i read on web that sprint has not yet relaesed 6.5 rom pls advise.
also how is the video and audioi playback of the device since i prefered it over samsung omnia i 8000 which has a oled screen..actually i was tired of holding devices to my nose to watch videos and wanted a device which i can put on table and watch vdo music etc..

Your sprint Rhodium is CDMA, so this is the section where you can find a 6.5 ROM:

Welcome Paul Good to see somebody thinking ahead about things like this!
1) I think a lot of people here will agree that the TP2 is the pinnacle of a "fully-capable" smartphone...it's definitely the best of the QWERTY-enabled hardware available today, and will probably remain so until/unless they eventually release a HD2 or equivalent with a hardware keyboard (...heaven willing!)
2) I've never used the Vodaphone ROM, but most carrier-specific ROMs are lacking in some way, and a large number of the ROM's available here will work regardless of which carrier you have...as long as you use one for the correct NETWORK type (which I believe is CDMA for Voda). Often the aftermarket ("cooked") ROMs developed here are based on carrier-issued ROM, then "improved" in any number of ways.
3) As orb3000 said above, there's no real way to subjectively recommend a "best" ROM...each has it's own pros and cons that have to be weighed against the needs/preferences of the user. The best place to start on that is to read THIS and THIS thread on flashing ROMs, then read over the threads related to each ROM that's been cooked/released here. Again, just make sure you're looking at ones that are for CDMA networks.
4) SBP Shell is definitely a great program, and can do a lot for the UI...but like most here I happen to believe that you can get more bang for your buck with the custom ROMs available here. Again, it's best to just try some out (including running a trial of SPB), and see what fits you best
THIS thread will help clear up the differences between windows mobile versions 6.5 and 6.5.3, which you'll see a lot of here.
So, you've got a lot of reading to do between now and when your new TP2 arrives! Once you get through all that, the next thing to learn is how to install/apply the fixes and tweaks available on XDA...usually that's done through ".cab files" (when you're lucky), sometimes through executable files, and sometimes through good old-fashioned registry edits by hand. I get the feeling you'll be learning about all that stuff quickly enough
2 last pieces of advice...first, make friends with the search function here in the forums...its often more efficient than just posting a question, and will save you from the backlash that can happen when someone asks a question with answers that are readily available around here. Lastly, even though the ROMs and other tweaks here are produced out of a labor of love, most any and all developers will accept donations (however small) to help offset personal expenses related to the time and effort they put into the wonderful gifts they drop on us regularly here. Donations are always voluntary, but once you find a ROM or other bits that work well for you, it's always good form to express your appreciation via some kind of token like that.
Good luck! Your friend has no idea what jealousy is about until he sees the look on your face when you start playing with your new toy!!

If you bought a Sprint-branded phone, then it's CDMA, and there's no changing that. You can't "unlock" a phone to switch between GSM and CDMA...so if your network is GSM, this phone is no good to you as a...phone

Actually, that's not true. See, the funny thing about the Rhodium is that there are no exclusively CDMA versions. Instead, there are the RHOD400 and RHOD500 models, which are GSM/CDMA hybrids. People refer to them as CDMA devices because of the fact they operate on CDMA networks by default, but they have full GSM capability, and can use regular GSM SIM cards.
dheerpat: The device you have bought works on GSM, but it will be referred to as a CDMA device on this forum, and you should use CDMA ROMs on it, despite the fact it also works on GSM. You should be able to use a Vodaphone SIM with it as long as you put the device in GSM mode, and if the SIM doesn't work, you can unlock the device so it will work.

phew!!!!! missed a beat there..paid 500 bucks for it afterall

So there ARE dual-network Rhodiums! I've had this argument before, and was always told that it just wasn't true. Well I'm glad to know that I was right....back then anyway

Hi, thanks for the response - and thanks to everyone else who has responded (aprt from those who hijacked my post lol).
I wont be using CDMA as i believe this is mainly for the US not the UK? So my geeky mate tells me, we only use GSM in England? Is he wrong and we don in fact use CDMA?
He also looked very shocked when i repeated that a lot of people dont go for the SPB Shell... he said its awesome and im stupid if i dont get it... yeah well i got a HTC Touch Pro2 and you dont pal... lol
I will look at the ROM's (already started) and will 'play' with a few that look interesting. I presume the SPB shell will work with any ROM and not wipe out any functionality? If i go for the SPB Shell...
Quite comfortable with the use of .cab files.... may not be so sure with registry tweaks but ill learn...

Yeah, SPB Shell used to be the best option for customizing the interface on winmo devices, but that was before HTC introduced, and have since refined, the TouchFLO3D interface. There's also a ton more user-generated tweaks and such that have sprung up since then (as you clearly see now).
I don't know about the GSM vs CDMA carriers in the UK or Europe, I'd always understood that GSM was dominant, but there were CDMA carriers there too...but I really have no idea for sure.

Well finally got my phone... its GSM....
Got the SPB shell - liking it.
Only issue i have is not being able to send MMS but trying to sort out.
So far so good - will play more once more confident - not bricking my phone for anyone lol

Ok i will put it to admin and the other mods - was thinking the same thing the other day.
I'll have to second this again. The Cavalier could really use it's own Thread.
We need Cavalier forum please.
Please create the HTC Cavalier/Dopod C730/HTC S630 forum.
Thanks!
OK, I repost the request to other mods.
Support to have a Cavalier forum
Strange, very strange!!!
HTC Cavalier for the moment is the best WM Smartphone money can buy and still there is no separate forum for this device. Even HTC Oxygen (technicly the worst HTC Smartphone) has it's separate forum.
Strange, very strange!!!
Cheers,
Yes why!!!
Apart from the iME problem, it is fast, new tech for the scroll and light sensor..why it is ignored?
...is it really selling well enough to have it's own area? Other than when it was released, you really don't hear that much about it.

Right... There was a lot of info just prior to it's release, and then some reviews right after -- but it doesn't seem to have been picked up by a lot of carriers (at least here in the states). Have many of them sold?
Maybe they should create a forum for 'Other' smartphones that never really took off, and you could talk about it there?

I know one thing that Cavalier is selling better than Oxygen, StarTrek, Monet and Breeze and finally it has better techical specs than any other smartphone on the market. Why carriers aren't picking it up, I really don't know and don't care as I don't buy phones with contract.
So your idea of "other" forum is good for above named phones but not for Cavalier.
There is another thing, HTC still did not anounce Cavalier for the rest of the world (except Asia), maybe this is why carriers aren't picking it up. If you want to get the device simply order it without a contract (for now). Even if this device goes on sale only on Asian Continet that does not meen that other people wont get it and that "it will not take off".
Cheers
Sounds like you're happy with it, must be a nice device.

Yeah, I have been part of those 40+ pages on HoFo but that really just talks about the phone. I would like to know some new hacks and such.
My thoughts exactly. That is a user forum, not a hacker forum. I have several hacks I would like to post in that forum. For example:
After successfully unlocking the Application / security locks, I have succeeded making cleartype Japanese fonts from Meiryo (MeiryoKe), reducing size of fonts for reading and composing messages, and size of fonts for pop up menus (but not buttons).
I also succeeded to divert have incoming SMS messages get delivered to Pocket Outlook instead of the Softbank Mail application, but still have MMS (S! Mail) functionality handled by that application. (It seems that I can send outgoing SMS by either application)
I also figured out how to remap buttons and found out how to disable the Softbank Mail button on the Joggr (which was pretty annoying because I would accidentally hit it all the time, so I had to disable the entire Joggr).
I'm looking for information about how to enable Internet Connection Sharing - I haven't been able to get this working yet.
There's no forum, so I'll post here . . .
khammo01: have you posted your overall experience with X02HT anywhere yet? I'm using X01HT now -- WM6 in eigo. I'm guessing the X02HT came from Softbank already in English, right? If I switch over to the X02HT, I assume that the level of hacking I will have to do is much less than what I went through to get my X01HT working. The hacks you are mentioning are fairly minor tweaks, so am I correct in my assumption?
Thanks!

Pity...

HTC Vogue/Sprint's Touch by HTC forum?

Sprint launched their version of the HTC Touch, also known as the HTC Vogue. This is a different phone than the HTC Elf.
Will Xda-developers start sub-forums for the Vogue soon?
Seconded!!!
Thirding this, a Vogue subforum would be pretty great. It's probably my next phone.
I just ordered the Sprint Tilt (aka HTC Vogue) yesterday and was thinking the same thing.
My Paypal dollars are ready to be donated if someone gets the gps unlocked

Fourth, holding my Touch right now, it's a beauty. I'll also be more than happy to donate and test anything that gets my gps unlocked.
I'm a happy Kaiser (well,Tilt...) user, but my girlfriend has a Vogue arriving tomorrow, so consider this her vote by proxy.

Vogue forum please!
I agree that there should be at least one seperate subforum for this. The device has some features and the looks of a gsm touch, but it's much different from an elf on the inside.
yes new forum for CDMA Touch please. it is a great phone i just switched from the p4000 and am not looking back.
Any love on this front?
Yes new Vogue forum please!!!!
Recent ruling.....could this help??
Yes please consider a new Vogue forum.
This was a result of a recent lawsuit.
Sprint said it will share the unlocking code with all current and former subscribers once their phones are deactivated and their bills are paid. The company also will add information about the locking software and how to obtain the unlocking codes in the list of terms and conditions of service given to new customers, and instruct its customer service representatives on how to connect a non-Sprint phone to the Sprint network.
I plan on getting the Vogue if it can be modified and have programs loaded into its rom. Otherwise I would just get the T Mobile wing. Any suggestions?
Any love on this?
Well, until XDA Developers does something about it, PPCgeeks.com has a pretty good forum
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=48
Even though it says it is for the HTC ELF, it is almost nothing but HTC Vogue/Sprint Touch talk. In fact, someone just posted a ROM unlocker and supposedly, there is going to be a custom ROM posted very soon.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=12255
I was just about to PM a moderator about this to.
Not only are the phones coming available.
Also some roms for these phones are popping up in the ELF threads.
I extracted some of these but there's big (Small actually, just the Pagepool and rom Size) differences and i foresee a lot of people trying to flash them anyway. Resulting in phones that run out of memory in no time.
And to be totally honoust i haven't seen a lot of Moderators popping up in the Elf threads to.
The Elf's grown up. It's getting pretty busy. Just now it's finishing second in Users viewing posts right now. After the Artemis, that has a lot more experienced users. And i won't see the steady band on elf thread jumping to a new Touch version anytime soon.

Not that I am completely in the know or anything, but I would figured that the Radio Rom would be different since the ELF is GSM and the Vogue is CDMA. Also, the chipsets are different. I wouldn't think that either phone's rom would run on the other.

HTC Diamond CDMA Rom/Manila selection

I have been looking into buying an HTC Diamond from Telus, but have kept hesitent due to a few major reasons: poor phone quality, reception, and dropped calls, and sluggish, slow interface.
Browsing the web for feedback and solution, I found an ad on the web offering to update the ROM which would improve in these areas. The person said it would turn diamond from triband to quad band, significantly improving reception, increase the speed of the pda, and the other interesting options. The only problem with that was that he was charging $100 dollars to do this. Thankfully, I discovered this forum, so now there is hope that I can tweak the Diamond. But it seems there is not one definite rom update, but a few. So my question is, do they all provide the basic features of increasing the processing/ display speed, and reception on top of other customized features, or is there a particular one the dude could have been talking about.
I really like the look of this phone, and it will be my first PDA. I don't want to get into some **** though on a 3 year contract. I am not noobish when it comes to these things; in fact, i enjoy messing around with my phone and computer -- customized both quite suitably.
If anyone has a ROM in mind that he or she uses very successfully, is very satisfied, please post it here and link the specs. Any advice, recomendations are welcome. I don't care much for music player, got an iPod, but compatability, accessibility, speed, reliabbility, and battery are very important. Naturally I am not looking for a mini laptop, so the phone aspect comes foremost important. Basically, I am trying to avoid restarting it every 10 minutes, rebooting, all that, which will just add on to the stress.
I also noticed some talk about Manila. What is it exactly? Is it just a theme, or something more. Well, any help is sincerely valued. Thank you.

Hello.
It seems to me you have a lot of reading to do and a lot of catching up.
Bear in mind that all of us in here clearly take the risk of loosing warranty, since all the roms are home made and not official from htc. This means that it is solely your responsibility if something goes wrong.
I respect the fact that you are not noobish but for PDA stuff treat yourself that you are noobish and read from scratch ( friendly advice to avoid probs)
If you want a suitable rom for you it comes down to you and only you to take the risk and start trying what is availlable.
No one can tell you what is suitable for you and if it will work or not etc etc., quality and functionality is totally subjective
I repeat that if you want to try you must get used to the fact of warranty is void with these roms.
So lets begin.
1. understanding what you do is important so here you are: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416211 THIS IS THE BIBLE
2. Roms: look in the forum for the varius roms, see the specs, progs, if you like it try, if not, try another one
keep in mind the above link. read it carefully if you do not want to end up with a bricked device. follow instruction carefully
Finally, i have been flashing roms for a year now in 3 htc devices i have come across and never ever ended up with a brick, however, no warranty.
and again there are ways to get the device back to original state for warranty reasons, you will get there in the forum, but get to know the stuff well and understand them befor you do anything.
Lastly, always read before you ask since most what you need, there is an answer in here.
I hope i have helped you as much as i could and i hope you will get your device up and running with the stuff in here, thanks to the amazing hard work and knowledge of the members/senior members/mods/admins/cooks etc (i hope i have not left anyone out )
Greetings
Keep in mind that *almost all* of the ROMs available here on the diamond forum are for the GSM version of the diamond, NOT the CDMA version (which is what the TELUS model is). Good luck with you research.

Small question, Noob in Rhodium

Hello guys,
As you can see, I am a noob in Rhodium but have been flashing since Magician, Tytn ,Tytn II.
So I know what to ask before posting, so please do not bash me as I am a noob with Rhodium and never had this Warning Come before in previous Phones.
Warning:
This package is not intended for your device type!!
High chance of bricking!! Existing Now!!
I bought the phone SIM UNLOCKED as I am using another network SIM on it.
I get the warning when trying to Flash automatically.
Now my question is, Should I go manual as the warning says do not attempt Manual UNLESS Another warning comes. Nothing in the Noob section talks about this particular warning.
If anyone could lead me to the right path, it would be highly appreciated
Hope you guys welcome me aboard and start multi flashing as I did on my previous phones
What model of Rhodium do you have? Under the battery, there should be barcodes and RHODxxx, where xxx is a number like 100, 300, etc. For example, my Tilt2 is a RHOD300. See, you might have a GSM/CDMA hybrid device, which needs a different HardSPL (which is in development). The model number will allow you to know if it's GSM or GSM/CDMA. If your device is GSM, it still gives a warning, and you've searched for others with this problem, you should post in the HardSPL unlocker thread.
mine is a RHOD500.
Help me, what should I do.
I see We ve both followed the same path. Kaiser than Rhodium
Yeah, seems like quite a few Kaiser owners were waiting for a better upgrade than the Raphael, and went with the Rhodium.
Anyway, back on topic. You have a RHOD500, which is a GSM/CDMA hybrid device. Unfortunately, there is currently no HardSPL for the RHOD400 or RHOD500 (only the exclusively GSM Rhodiums have HardSPL). However, you can rest assured that cmonex and Olipro are working on it.
That is sad as I was really looking forward to turn this Rhodium upside down.
Coz i know it has high potentials.
BTW, wht is the difference between rhod100,300,500,etc... Why the different ones? Were there flaws that were corrected everytime?
Oh well, back to kaiser forum and pimping it out with Stylez
Cant wait to get here and start flashing and helping out with the testing
The difference in model numbers reflects changes in hardware (AFAIK). For example, the the RHOD100 is the European GSM version from HTC, with the front camera, but the RHOD300 is the AT&T Tilt2 without the front camera (it also contains a slightly different chipset). The RHOD400 & RHOD500 are both GSM/CDMA devices, and as such have different chipsets than the GSM only versions. If you remember that the Kaiser had models KAIS100, KAIS110, and KAIS100 (depending on the amount of cameras), it's pretty much the same thing here.
Also has to do with Radio Chipset. The T-Mobile GSM Only Rhodium is different than the AT&T GSM Rhodium. They have different 3G hardware to handle the different 3G bands used. This is also why the European one has a different Model #. They have different 3G bands as well. T-Mobile is the RHOD210. Also, if you go to HTC's site & check, you'll see each one has a different Qualcomm MSM 7K chipset listed.
AT&T has 7201a
Verizon & Sprint have 7600
T-Mobile & European have 7200a
Thank you guys. I appreciate your help
A few more questions if you guys dont mind
1- When I had the kaiser, i used to flash different radios(kaiser, polaris, neon, niki) in order to get MY desired radio(GPS,batterylife,etc..). Will I be able to do that with my RHOD500?
2-Regarding also waiting for a HARDSPL(thank you Olinex and Olipro), will I have to wait for a better release in the future? (i.e: Production cars, people dont always buy the FIRST fleet of cars as they still have flaws, so they wait for the 2nd and 3rd production fleet where the company would have fixed the 1st release flaws)
I am not talking about roms as I know thats the case, but close enough since we had 3.29,3.34,etc..for Kaiser.Which will I have to flash?
Will I have to do that?
3-I bought my Rhodium Unlocked(since I am using another company), will I still have to get security/sim Unlocker in order to flash different radios?
Thank you guys for welcoming me over here
I'm not sure about that. Since those devices have GSM/CDMA capabilities, they might use different radios than GSM devices (I don't know), but I'm not sure if anyone other than cmonex and Olipro could answer that.
No, there really isn't a reason to wait. It's extremely unlikely that any unforseen consequences would occur since they have teams of people testing HSPL long before release, to ensure that it's okay to release to the general public.
You do not need to security unlock to flash radios. You DO need to security unlock to flash radios from other devices (such as the Topaz). However, this brings me back to your first question, which as I have already said, I do not know the answer to. Therefore, I think you'll need to wait and see (though HardSPL for CDMA devices should be out very soon from what I hear)
Appreciate your answers Dave .
Thanks for helping me out.
I do hope they get the HARDSPL soon as I am dying to start working on my RHODIUM.
I do want to ask the questions to cmonex and Olipro, but I am sure they are quite busy. Also I doubt they will answer my questions as they are busy and usualy, most busy people just tell me read the FAQ, which sometimes doesnt have the answer to my question.
BTW, have u tried STYLEZ Black, V3. Trust me, you ll luv it.FLAWLESS

Sure, happy to help
As I've said, HSPL should be ready very soon. CDMA HardSPL has already been finished, but cmonex was busy IRL and she also has to work out mirrors and the licensing server (or something like that). And when the Security/SIM/CID unlocker is ready, I'm sure that Olipro or cmonex (whoever posts it) will say what radios you can flash, etc.
Thx for the explination. Appreciate it
I am watting anctiously to start flashingm y RHOD500
Hey guys. Now I have a very good question.
In all my previous HTCs, I used to install NeoS2007 OpenVG and Chainfire's GFXBoost which seemed to improve Significantly the proformance and graphics.
Should i also install them on my rhodium?
When I used the NeoS2007 driverpack 3 on EnergyROM "Leo", I actually got worse 3D performance, and it seemed slower than before. GfxBoost didn't really have a noticable effect, IMO. However, you should test them on whatever ROM you have, since the overall effect may be different in your particular setup.
The thing is, I have the RHOD500, no HARDSPL YET. I just wanted to know in advance of the effect so that when the time comes to flash, ill get everything done by the first flash.

Should Virgin Mobile Desire 816 have its own Forum?

I was going through the threads and what really bugs me is the virgin mobile desire development is mixed up with the Europe version. I know the phones are identical but we have a different Hboot and Software. We should separate the two versions in two different threads making it easier for users to follow the development phase.
Would make a lot of sense, however I feel like there's not enough development on this device to even bother with the separation. Plus I feel like in the future, developers who might want to make stuff for the 816 would go for the other (dual sim) versions, so the VM one would either get way less development, or all its development a lot later, when our favorite devs were asked to port it to the VM version.
I agree with this as well. Merging the types has caused irreversible bricks for people who aren't savvy in these things especially if they haven't backed up their original software via Nandroid. Now you may think just download an RUU but those are not available for the Virgin Mobile model and finding and using someone else's nandroid isn't a simple drag and drop process including the fact that they can't boot the system. They would indeed have to use for example Cyanogenmod but then people aren't even sure if its possible to restore an original backup from Cyanogen.
On top of that there is a custom kernel but no one has uploaded an original for those who want to go back to stock for squaretrade insurance purposes maybe? I would possibly hear, this sounds like a "you" problem but regardless of the device they were produced and people do use them and some people do like to mod them to the fullest extent to call it "theirs". You might say just learn but it isn't that simple for everyone. What takes an expert a few minutes/hours to arrange may take a new person months or years and with risk that they cannot restore the device in the case of a bad flash. Just saying to consider everyone not just the general population. Minorities in society deserve a chance no?
Me? Saying; I am one of these people but I can understand the difficulty when navigating through something and when their using purely codenames such as a5_dug it makes it no simpler.
One reason for this phone.
Its available in payments on the shopping websites. 199 and 6 months to pay it off with no credit check? Yes please.

From March 2014 to now. Rarely spoken of out of 100's of Androids. Because of the price now development is increasing. Your really telling me separating the two forums would cost you enough time to not do it? There are phones that have no development on here and are completely sectioned out amazingly.

Funny!!!
Talk @ confusion, I saw this in the CM11 thread?
"One question; how the F*** for the life of day and night do you restore this device back to stock without an official RUU for Virgin Mobile? "
Just messin w/ ya, splitting development would not be a good idea IMHO, more of these phones were sold for months outside of US.
VM owners are probably a small minority, so most devs probably wouldn't be bothered with our ROM, give it time, if there's market penetration, we could think @ a split from WW dev.
(as it is, there isn't much going on in dev right now anyway, I'm thankful for the CM11 port we have from Grarak & v_superuser)
Truth be told, things would be easier for us if there was a separate sub forum but it wouldn't favor us as far as development goes.
To the best of my knowledge there are a handful of devs who work with VM phones. I'm not exactly sure if any of them have jumped on the 816.
Until that happens I think it's in our best interest to hang out and wait. Right now we're dependent on those that have had the phone for about 6 months longer than we have..
v_superuser and Garak have posted their CM11 in a cl;ear enough way that DLing and running that rom should be pretty straightforward. If any future roms are posted in the same way there should be no confusion.
That being said, I can see a VM specific subforum being helpful for people who may be starting out and aren't sure about general stuff relating to VM bloatware etc.

Lol . I bricked this phone 4 times going back and forth; from the Stock ROM, to the Chinese sort of stock ROM, to Cyanogen. Done erased my /sdcard to where it wasn't mountable and brought it back with Cyanogen and sideload. (Luckily, the bootloader wasn't affected by the amount of **** I threw at it.) Tested 3 different recoveries only to find out the old version from the CM11 post was the only one that really worked the properly.
I was able to start it back up and continue to put the backup onto the internal storage since I didn't have an external SD on hand; BUT then I found out that the backup was 1.96 GBs and needed to be in the /data/media/clockworkmod/backup section of the device which was inaccessible via normal USB methods since your stuck in /data/media/0 and is considered basically a completely different partition. This phone has 8GB internal and uses 4.xxGB with its normal software when installed (yes even with Cyan) then I just put a 1.96 GB file so it was basically stopping me from copying the whole folder which was just ever so slightly annoying since I had to use ES file explorer, make a new folder with the same name, then; one by one Cut and Paste each file into the new folder in the /backup folder. This might seem like a simple process but with absolutely no guides out there for a guideline this really sucked. It's basically like; if you have this device then you know how to flash/root/etc as the norm. Trial and error. -_-
Then after looking around and seeing that VM had 55$ for their plan. I saw that Straight Talk was able to accept the MEID of this VM device without a hitch, but then I looked into different carriers for even better alternatives and saw that Ringplus had $17.99 for Unlimited Talk/Text/400MB 3G/4GLTE. I thought **** why not? Turns out Ringplus doesn't accept VM devices. (Sucks)
SO then I decided to "spoof" the IMEI/MEID/ESN with DFS/QPST (Experience) and I was able to get the MEID/ESN to change and get EvDo Rev.A service but to no avail with LTE since the IMEI is "unspoofable" without S-Off. I thought well why not $17.99 for unlimited T&T w/data? Signed up with my new "S3". lmfao
Purpose of this post?
There was at least 3-10 topics I could cover for VM Desire devices now.

Maybe this is a dumb question but if the VM version isn't capable of dual numbers or being ported or used anywhere else why does VM advertise this as dual sim on their site as part of the device name? What would be the point of the false advertising.

I just checked out the VMUSA site and couldn't find anything about dual sim. I did however see "Dual Mode" used for the phone. Dual mode is just a term to say that the phone uses both CDMA and GSM. CDMA for 3G and GSM for LTE.
An answer could be to have a thread under "Desire 816 General" called "Virgin Mobile Issues" or something similar. I'm guessing there could be enough traffic to keep it on the first page for a while. For example I'm still curious exactly how the -chl is best classified. Is this hybrid best thought of as a single or dual sim? Will getting s-off allow the phone (with some rom work) to be used by another carrier? Having all these VM specific questions and answers in one place would be a plus and it shouldn't interfere with the Q&A being done on the true dev work here in other threads.
