[REQ] Naked, barebones WM 6.5.3 ROM. - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

To any active Hermes ROM cookers. Could you please do a naked, barebones, WM 6.5.3 ROM and just concentrate on having as much free RAM as possible.
No front end like Sense, SPB, PointUI. Doesn't even need Office. All these things can be added. Just the basic functions like SMS, Bluetooth, need to be stable.
If there are any cookers still left out there this is what the remaining users REALLY need and want.
You will have the undying gratitude of people from disparate parts of this world.

I need something like that too. Most recent OS with working camera, bluetooth and infrared. No need for programs like office or messenger. If I need them I will install them later.

Yeah, that would be great!

ok will do..

I agree with all this...And i don't even need wm 6.5.3, maybe a good 6.1 and 6.5 Hybrid
would do the work, as long as it has 28MB or more ram...All of the other things are
installable so we can have what we want...And yes there should be .net CF

I don't have a wm6.1 kitchen yet

It's ok man...You do your work just fine I just made suggestion because it is noticeable
that with wm 6.1 Hermes works better and all applications work (like pim organizer and
morphgear emulator) and i think with wm 6.1 there could be a way to get more ram...
Only thing with wm 6.1 is that it's not so finger friendly so if some features from 6.5 roms
(like finger scroll and larger menus) could be implemented in 6.1 it would be the best! This is
just my opinion...

Well, I'm trying to cook half-naked 6.5 (NOT 6.5.3, the large menu are useless on 2.8") with the basic things directly in the ROM (the really usefull things will probably install itself via PreConfig and will be uninstallable/upgradeable) - I want as much RAM as possible and stability. This "model" worked for me perfectly on 6.1
But I can't cook much in the week (school). And few things in the kitchen I use (SJK) is are broken ... maybe I'll try to fix it myself, we'll see.
But I can share with rest of you, when I complete it. But I'll be cooking it for myself, so it will be under No Whining "licence".

I see where you're coming from. Though in some sense we have a naked 6.1 ROM with CRC's, though this still gives me problems.
It is true that some things I like to use just don't work with 6.5.x but there has always been a severe lack of vanilla 6.5 ROMS and before all the Hermes ROM cookers go to that great ROM cookers place in the sky, it would be nice to have a one.

Have you tried "Darkvisions final" on 1st boot it provides around 28MB RAM, I use SPB Mobile Shell and still have 22-23MB free and still has many extra's installed

I used Dark Visions 5.0 final when it first came out and tried it again later but always ran into terminal problems i.e with the bluetooth.
I was hoping he would release a Dark Visions 6.0 that he mentioned he had finished but it looks like he's also gone to the Great Rom Cookers resting place.
I am just about to try out the one kindly done by MrDSL to see if this meets the criteria...

I haven't tried it but i am having a thought on doing that because crc's 13.5
rom is giving me a bit trouble last few days...It is one of the best rom there is
blazing fast and pretty good on ram, but i had a few phone freeze (not whole
phone but some of the graphics frozen and i could still receive calls and so).
But i wonder if things like pim organizer (very useful tool) and Morphgear still
works on Darkvisions v5.0?

dump crc's 13.5 with the ervius kitchen and you have an awesome 6.1 base! I dummped both his naked and full, then used the naked as my base, and added the things I wanted.

I underline your posting and your wish. I've the same idea. DarkVision goes in that direction.
And for more finger friendlyness, exists a great "old" tool FTouchflo - since the days of the great GERMAN ROMs of Schap... :

Thanks to all the cookers, the last weeks is more "action" here, many new Roms to play with it.
Maybe, one day, I cook my own german mixed ROM... if I've the time, to give my Hermes to my mother, who isn't an english-speaker...

You can use V29 23060 lite http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=461680

Thanks keraunos, I'll try this, maybe again, I've forgotten how this ROM was, and if I can open Opera without problems or memory shortings, like in the big Manila 2D Versions. I don't like Versions, where the Manila every time starts again, when I switch from another opened program.
Better perfomance in 6.5 oder 6.1+6.5 mixed Roms has the SPB Mobileshell GUI, or others.
But I like trial and error in testing roms. I think it's a good idea, to write down, which I've tested, and wich was fine for me, cause my brain memory is obviously full...

For me is the best rom until other beter will be release.

@MG! A New Elf Rom! [email protected]! Now with CRACKBERRY ADDICT SUPPORT! Elf 2.1! "The New Black"
Welcome to Elf v2.1!
Elf Is "The New Black"
Below you will also find the CRACKBERRY version of this rom. Please, seek professional help if you are addicted to CrackBerry, but, as a public service, I have included it. TIPS ARE HIGHLY WELCOME!
The damn CrackBerry hack took an INSANE amount of time.. The actual hex edit is easy; it's figuring out what to edit! argh.. Seriously nuts. BIG thanks to Shadowmite for his help in figuring this out. Also, a thanks to JJ for his complete lack of moral support as I tested it
Highlights:
Cooked into the rom:
1) BIG STORAGE! (48.8MB available after all ExtRom programs installed)
2) Shadowmite's TweakUI 1.4
3) dotFred's PimBackup
4) TaskMgr
5) ATI Patch
6) Office 2007
7) OneNote patch
Cooked into the ExtRom:
1) Windows Live Search (My personal killer-app)
2) Windows Live Messenger (the NEWEST Live Available!)
3) Device Lock
4) WM Transcriber
5) SIP Config Tool - VoIP configuration
All extrom customizations are REMOVABLE via. the Remove Programs App in Settings.

Download here (Rapidshare)
High Speed Mirror (thanks Chamelion!)
Download **FIXED** CRACKBERRY rom here (Rapidshare)
Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it..
Notes:
- X-Button has serious issues. I am not including it in this release. I recommend SBSH.net iLauncher as a proper replacement. It is inexpensive, and just amazingly awesome. It's the task manager of choice for most people who really know what they're doing.
- I need an icon for SIP Config Tool; I'm a god-awful artist. So, if anyone wants to contribute back an icon, please do and I'll release an updated cab for it.
- Splashscreens are professional; I do have some other more fun ones that ToddJG did; I'll post them later for seperate download.
- In my tests, with the standard battery, and full time push-email, I was getting an insane battery life with this ROM! Longer than I had seen before. So, I'd be interested to hear other's opinions on this issue...
- General idea of what got cooked vs. added via. Extrom. Basically, I wanted a core OS that allowed one to operate the device but leave most of the other stuff in ExtRom to be installed on HR customization. So, things like TaskMgr and PIMBackup (both VERY small programs, but, also HIGHLY useful) are cooked. Live, Live Search and other stuff that I like, but you might not, are in ExtRom and marked as 'removeable'. You will be able to reclaim the space lost on the Live installation, etc..

It's based on LVSW. It *highly* stable. So, if you prefer newer and unstable check out that Rockin' rom or Faria. But, if you prefer ROM's that don't need Ritalin, mine's the best around (IMNSHO).

Excellent, I will try later this week; I've just gotten Sleuth LSVW rom up and running.
Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the good work, Elf. Just had the original Elf edition setup 2 days ago and has not had a soft reset.
Trying this 2.1 out tonight.
WebCamera Plus from Ateksoft not working
Thanks Elf for the great ROM. I finally took the plunge to flash the ROM fo the first time. So far everything has been working fine except for the WebCamera Plus. Apparently after flash the ROM, it somehow returns a new device ID to the software hence the activation of the software fails.
So the problem would be similar to those from TOM TOM users.
I suppose I have to call Ateksoft to issue me with another activation code.
Apart from that it is a great ROM.
Thanks
I wish I knew why it does that silliness. Although, this whole activating based on some strange device ID is just silly too.. Pirates just bypass it. Legitimate people who buy the software are screwed out of the program...
There have been HUNDREDS of downloads of both roms, and only a VERY SMALL handful of posts.. I guess this ROM is the secret Diamond around here
WebCamera Plus from Ateksoft not working
Thanks for the reply, Elf.
BTW, donation on his way.
Great ROM elf, awesome in fact.
I just have a small problem with the refresh though. When I change the settings on the today screen like take away a button for instance, it does not refresh it until I do a soft reset. weird.
WoW!
With all the different roms ive tried this is the best so far!
well done, cant wait to see more!
We're like the diamond in the rough... The new black... You know, once you go with an Elf, you nevah go backlf (well, something like that).
CUS' i'm TELling you that I'm way better than some of these other ROMS
I'm just joking of course. I have great respect for all the cooks on here.. JJ is a great guy if you ever get to know him, Custel is, well, uh, uhm, anyways... Sleuth is a nice guy (smart too), and LVSW, well, he's just plain cool--I only wish he spoke English better because he rocks and I'd LOVE to pick his brain on a few things..
Anyways, I'm missing tons of cooks, so, don't take offense.. PLEASE! I'm just trying to be funny.. But seriously... In the words of that annoying idiot on TV that hocks his "Video Professor" software--"Try my product!" lol
I just put this on my TyTN today. I'll be testing it for the next week or so. So far, everything seems ok. It's definitely less snappy than Black 3.0, which is what I had on before for about 3 weeks -- 3 weeks without a single reboot. I'm hoping this ROM can show the same kind of stability.
Black wouldn't recognize my microSD after removing it - I had to soft-reset to recognize a re-inserted card. That is fixed in this ROM.
One minor bug so far - when setting an alarm with the built-in alarm function, AM/PM reads "P 1" and "A 1", rather than AM/PM. Not a big deal.

Go to HTCustom, change the TIME to Normal, NOT AM/PM.. It is a WM6 bug.
About memory... compared to the others your ROM is relatively low on Program memory (in my case about 24-25 Mb after install).
But you tell in your ROM we can remove the extra programs we don't need. Will this also increase the program memory (as I understand in WM6 memory allocation between storage en program memory is dynamically)?

New Schap's ROMs coming June 2008 - Suggestions are welcome

Hello!
I'm back after few months to anounce that I'm working again on new ROMs for Hermes and Kaiser, now that Windows Mobile 6.1 is officially released I hope to give you something new during this month.
Concerning my plans, I will certainly release localized WM6.1 ROMs, I don’t know yet if I will continue to release WM6.0 ROMs, it’s up to you! I will also finally support big storage for Hermes ROMs, and I would like to develop some new apps for our devices.
I’m open to suggestions, if you have any idea to develop, some apps/drivers to update, if you want to recommand a stable ROM base or if you have any request.
I would like to thank you again for your support, especially those of you who donated in the past, thanks to you I’ve got a TyTN and a TyTN II which will make my work much easier to create new ROMs and develop on those devices!
Hi
so far, the most stable base rom i have used is the 19202 rom, the newer one floating about on the forums, specifically this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381326
if you could rip all the crap out of that one and 'schaps'-fy it that would make one helluva killer rom!
also, when are we going to see your new interface?!
good luck with development, we all await eagerly!
please make one of ur perfect roms with a split mms / sms.
what happened to your new look?
Schaps,
GREAT NEWS!! I've been running your rom's exclusively since the day I bought my hermes. I've tried a few others for a day or two but always came back to yours. I look forward to a stable version of 6.1 and a new look for the purple today screen!!
Keep up the GREAT WORK!
Thanks for keeping up the 'excellent' work!!!

Hey good to see that you are back in the Hermes section! And well, as I read your post - in the Calibri Font - I wondered if a WM6.1 default calibri font wouldn't look hot? What say the others? Some Test ScreenShots or some compareison screenshots between Tahoma/Calibri or even Segui would be cool... Could someone do that?
If you develop new stuff try to keep enough space for Hermes Ram, it's not the Kaiser(!), so the same application set for both devices wouldn't make sense...would it?
Currently there is no localized german Hermes-Rom, I know that this is not your priority, but I just want to mention that here
Keep up your work

So glad to see you back and ready to put out another nice update!
As several others mentioned, your ROMs are the best, and I too, appreciated your mad skillz and your excellent releases.
Keep up the great contributions to the TyTN -- because of you, I've actually been able to keep my phone for a record of over 1.5years! (Normally I upgrade phones every fews months )
Believed me, my wife is very happy with that
Great news that you're working on a new ROM with 6.1.
My suggestion would be to have
-HTC Home Customizer
-Setup Voip (with a prepared ipdialplan.xml and dlls for the sound issue)
-Battery Status
Regards, and thx for your great ROMS

Great News! Me and also many people hav been waiting for a long time for your new ROM..

And, you can make at least 2 edition, one of them is the big storage, the fewer apps the better

Modulize install set of cabs
How difficult would it be to create a base OS install and then allow the user to install those .cabs (included) as required. I know there are other threads where one can obtain these .cabs seperately. Just time saving hunting them down etc.
There are several WM6.0, 6.1 builds around which have installed software that either I dont need or the version may work on the system but cause lock-ups or conficts which the current OS e.g a .cab built for wm5.0 may have issues with 6.0 or 6.1.
Currently playing 19209.2.1.3 (beta)- no you wont find this out on the net yet, but give it time
A lite version would be great! I have used Pandora's Naked ROMS and am currently using FARIA R32 LITE. Being able to load only the programs I use has been the best choice for me. Plenty of available memory and very fast and stable.

A new set of APIs is being introduced that will enable application developers to take advantage of the new Windows Mobile 6.5 touch gesture framework. The gesture APIs allow an application to handle touch gesture input and provide a visually consistent experience with the rest of the device UI. Note that the gesture APIs are only available on the Windows Mobile Classic and Professional SKUs. The headers and libraries are installed in the Windows Mobile SDK\Pocket PC\ folder. Samples that make use of these APIs are installed into the Windows Mobile 6.5 Developer Tool Kit\Samples\ folder.

the standard device didn't get honeycomb
I wouldn't have thought there would be enough space on the screen for Honeycomb to work effectively, maybe on a landscape screen like the Excalibur but not on portrait orientated smartphones? I might be wrong but just my first impression.
Would be great to see those pics, please fix them OP!

You're not kidding, it's impressive the amount of work that went into this upgrade , they must've had a hell of a team working on this.
Seriously! How much of an upgrade this is , really! I got to say that I'm quite dissapointed with MS. There shouldn't be any reason why they can't make it look and feel like a mayor upgrade, make it look like the real wm6.5 pro for ppc. That's the way it should be.
I wish there was a way to make the WM6.5 Pro ppc version work with our phones.
I guess well have to wait for WM7 then. It just looks like and official MS version of 6.1.
Well although it doesn't have a big visual upgrade, there might be huge optimizations that could give a huge speed bonus, and it might be lighter on RAM.
But if you think about it, most software that has different versions don't have a big change until the next full integer (v2 to v3 for example)
6.1 was a big visual upgrade over 6.0, so maybe 6.5 standard has a big performance upgrade instead.

It's just that we are still on about M$? Not like we get .1 .2 .3 so would be good to see something more like WM6.5 interface for SP would't have been that hard....
Lets just hope more refined?

Yea, its pretty plain for now. The emulator image is also missing most of the OEM Packages. I'm working on duming the XIP (21234 Standard) out of it now but it's not cooperating. Anyone ever dumped an XIP out of an emulator?

Not missing. They're not supposed to be there. OEM packages are just that.. OEM.... Not MSFT In our case the "OEM" is HTC... So of course you're not going to see them in a MS release

I guess well have to wait for WM7 then. It just looks like and official MS version of 6.1.

I seriously doubt WM7 will run on the Excalibur

Even if it does get WM7 on it, it would run so badly that it wouldn't even be worth it. I'm pretty sure that WM7 is going to be optimized for touch screen enabled devices anyways, so the interface would suck, kinda like the interface of Android on the Excalibur.

[10/15/09] MrDSL's Titanium 23071 3g Available Now!

Please flash OEM Stripped AT&T first before you flash this ROM.
OEM Stripped AT&T : Here
Theres too many people for me to mention but thanks for all the help and all the tools. This site rules!!
This is based off the newer kitchen by ervius. Thanks for sharing + Que PPC
I haven't had a lot of time to use this ROM yet but it seems pretty good so far and it has the new contact manager. I also like that the txt msg shows the date and time of a received txt now.
The screenshot is Black Bliss so if you want yours to look like that then download it. If not it will just be plain Titanium.
NOTE: There is no task manager with 23071 because theres a bug with showcase where it will lock up sometimes when closing tmail.exe so I didn't include it. Its something with the newer 6.5 builds and theres no fix yet

I'm curious though if anyone is using this ROM have you noticed any problems with the battery drain? My battery is crap so I can't judge by mine anymore..

I have to say, seems to be tarring through the battery but I just realized I forgot to hard reset.... Doo. So, I will let you know. After a real test.
Nobody else is reporting problems with battery consumption in 23420 so I would be surprised.

Any chance to squeeze more RAM,say 25-30MB free after first boot?

Even when I drop titanium its still around 21mb. Without honeycomb or the new unlock screen maybe.
Problems so far :
- on some boots it just stays on splashscreen and hangs, softreset does the trick.
- after installig Automapa (something like tomtom) and widcomm bluetooth stack and rebooting it a few times it stopped working, only shows AT&T logo, then gray screen and stays that way.
Those 2 programs were the only ones installed, nothing more.
And I know they arent the problem 'coz I used them for about a year now.
very good rom bravo

WM 6.5 now has Checkboxes, Push Button, Radio boxes, etc. like WM 6.5.x

Am not sure if this has been introduced or not, but fir the first time since wm6.5.x, i have used a wm 6.5 build and have found this trick on trial.
For many of us using the WM 6.5 is just like WM 6.1 with minor updates, but using WM 6.5.x steps ahead in Graphical User Interface. Well now it possible to have WM 6.5 to have similar Graphic Customizations that you see in WM 6.5.x such as, Check Boxes, Push Buttons, Radio Boxes, etc. Have a look at the screens below, the top images are default WM 6.5 looking but the bottom images are Graphically customized like in latest WM 6.5.x Builds.

^^ wow nice, have u a cab?
Long long time to search this. Thanks man.
nice find....gud for 6.1 users...
what cool thing is that the push buttons never showed up at all places in wm6.5.x but in wm6.5, using the same resources, the push buttons show everywhere. will be working on finding what makes them not work in wm6.5.x. if any1 has an addon then sure let me know.
Isn't this already widely known? I used a 6.5 EnergyROM that had them skinned like that.

am not sure. cud be possible. but it was 1st time i tried wm6.5 build since 6.5.x was launched and found this. it wasnt mentioned anywhere so i posted. does ny1 has a reqson y those push buttons show on 6.5 but not on 6.5.x??
You just need the proper GWES.EXE file. I think 23047 had the best GWES file.... It went away for a while and I just reused my 23047 version.
I'm pretty sure it is standard in later builds because I don't think I still use it. But aside from requiring the graphics, you need the GWES.EXE file.
From the article, it appears that the later WM6.5 GWES.EXE supports the themes but the files are missing (basically). So you just need the image files and a theme that calls to them.

true. but has anyone tried a wm 6.5 gwes.exe on 6.5.3?? i'll do that as soon as i get free this weekend. but if any1 knows it then let us know.
Checkboxes look bad as they are the same size as the text next to them. This was fixed a long ago in 6.5.3, but in 6.5 it is still present.
I am using 21882. Can anyone confirm that on 21888 (or 21889) it was fixed?

And YES, works great also using 21884 build
I use it since 21869
I noticed the following problems:
1) checkboxes appear stretched vertically, if text consist multiple lines
2) In some older programs skins buttons overlap pop-up
But in general looks very good
