I wonder when HTC will provide a replacement for the Excalibur? I know there is the Cavalier but it has always appeared buggy and not as well designed.
I have had my Excalibur for 2 years now .... which is an absolute record for me ... during my ownership I have danced with the; Touch, Touch Dual, Samsung i780, Omnia, BlackBerry Curve, i620 and EVERY time I come back to Excalibur ...
I love the keyboard, the form factor and now 6.1 .... but it would be great to have GPS and 3G ... and I also just hanker after something fresh ....
It seems an age since it was launched and I know the Treo Pro is HTC ... but I find the Smartphone version of windows so much quicker to navigate and use....
Come on HTC give us an update ....
I agree it would be awesome to have the Excaliber2 with GPS and 3G enabled.
True, Tmobile 3G and GPS would absolutely be awesome !!!!! and of course Wifi and the rest of the work, I also prefer Windows Smartphone better than the Pocket PC
All that plus a faster cpu and I would be happy!
Excalibur2
I totally agree with u guys i have mine for 3yrs and it works great(other than going through about 8 hard resets and 16 cold booths.. lol) I am still loving my phone i would really hope that htc does come out with a second version
I think so, Excalibur is great but the battery is low capacity. Do you have any experience to fix this matter ?
I can think on this for an Exaclibur replacement:
Let´s wait a few months to see it!!
I need a new smartphone and i think i'm going to get the Touch Pro 2 later today.
What do you guys say, should i get this one or should i wait for a future model from HTC?
What are your overal experiences for so far?
it's a super-great device, and no better are planned AFAIK, when it comes to QWERTY+decent display - there is't much to choose from.
Only the Star and the SuperStar are likely to be any better than the TP2 and there's no news on them other than that they have nvidia chipsets.
No idea what they'll even look like, but those will be some special phones!
According to AT&T there is going to be a Hardware refreash....this means that it will support windows Mobile 7....however this is in september / october when WM 7 comes out.
I am going to wait as I do not want tofind out that there is a newer version of the TP2. Once those months pass and there is no new anywhere then I will upgrade to the TP2, however thats if Toshiba don't release thier 1 GHz WM6.5 phone...
If you need it now, buy it now.
By the end of the year, we'll see new BCM2727 HD and Qualcomm Snapdragon based mobile phones with really big display, 3D acceleration, WinMo 6.5 and maybe even some with keyboards. All these *NOT* from HTC. For HTC models you may have to wait well into 2010.
But what will be the RAM/ROM configuration, hardware build quality, TF3D alternative and price - nobody knows.
As always with technology, there's always something better just around the corner, so you can theoretically postpone indefinitely.
I'm buying TP2 as soon as the shops that sell for a bit more decent price get it in stock locally. While I would have liked a faster CPU and even more RAM, I'm confident that TP2 will fill my needs for quite some time.

Agree completely! I'm getiing the TP2 as soon as it arrives at tmob usa to take advantage of it's great features. If someday when htc has snapdragon, then I'll upgrade...
Does anyone know if this will be an ATT phone and if so, when?
I second the above comments.
There are better specd devices available and due for release soon.
The only reason I went for Rhodium is
1 It's an HTC which means I can configure and tweak the hell out of it
2 It's a great looking / feeling device
3 It's an HTC which means there's unsurpassed support for it right here in these great forums.
Did I mention it's an HTC device?
Cheers,

Well there may be other devices not from HTC that are released soon and have better specs (or already have been released), but i really want a HTC phone and not something else =)
So if i wanna stick with HTC this is the best option, at least untill 2010?

What exactly do you mean? that the touch pro 2 hardware is getting updated or that a completely new phone is going to be released?
well IMHO there is nothing better out there by HTC at present and i can only highlight Beast reasons as a perfect summary for getting the device. yep there may be higher spec devices due out but will they work as well as the tp2 does? that remains to be seen. right now we have a HTC device that delivers and finally does some justice to touchflo. i too have my eyes on the toshiba tg01 but that will replace my HD and it remains to be seen if that 1ghz processor will actually enhance the device.
Mmm ok, and when exactly will devices be released with windows mobile 7 on them?

Nobody knows for sure, but probably in second half of 2010. So, a year or more away.

You forgot to mention it's a HTC device
Hello Xda fellows
Does anyone else have a strange feeling that our beloved blackstone is slowly but for sure falling into oblivion?
sigh
yes, of course it is. it is three genrations old now (touch pro 2 and diamond 2 are next generation and htc leo is the newest).
However, this doesnt mean its going to be forgotten. the android project is really gaining ground. the "improving gfx performance" guys have just released a killer graphics pack and all of the apps made in future for the td2 and tpro 2 (maybe even leo) will work fine.
so, to answer your question, it is getting a bit old (a year old now) but that doesnt mean its going to disappear. look at the polaris and kaiser
good to hear opinion like that thanks man
the good thing about our phones is that it is still "current" in that the _relatively_ "newly released" TD2 and TP2 have very similar specs to our phone...it's just not at the very top anymore
Falling into obvlivion might be correct, but that doesn't mean the device is bad. If you like a device, you like it nomatter how many new devices are out.
I Dont think its falling into oblivion, look at the specs...
More ram than most, better screen than most, wvga is becoming more and more recognised, you dont get a 3.5mm headphone socket on most other devices, 5mp camera, most others are 3 or below, and really as long as xda developers lives on all devices do too
As far as I can see, it's still the top of the tree until the Leo is released.

HTC are not making a phone called Leo.
Yes. I am a pedant
A month ago I sold my HTC Diamond for a Touch HD...
I had the option to go for a Touch Pro, Diamond 2 etc...
but after trying a few the screen on the Touch HD is far superior to any others tried even the Iphone doesn't look as perfect as the HD.
It runs as fast as both the Touch Pro and Diamond 2.
The only difference in my opinion is the TV out on the Touch Pro.
Its inevitable that as time goes on the HD will eventually become obsolute or redundant as you'll move to pastures green. However with the HD, I feel this is still a bit in the future. There is nothing out there to really make me consider getting my wallet out and purchasing it. As time goes on this will obviously change, but not just yet!!

Now I would have absolutely agreed with you until this last week or so. The HD2 just looks too good to miss.
It'll certainly quieten the missus and her damned iPhone a bit.
Meh, I still got me HTC Universal running, the bigger the HTC the longer they last!
Blackstone is NOT going to fade out so soon.
Crap, I just switched from Polaris to Blackstone... )
And there has to be something much much better than HD2 to make me cry why have I bought HD...
I guess you are right!
about HD2, is just got one ~10 Days ago and i have to tell you, its not that different from the HD.
its just a little bit better in every way, but always just a little
(little faster, manila little smoother, gps little faster, screen a little bigger....)
but so far everything form the hd2 works just fine on hd (exept a free 3D game, forgot the name)
The only phone i would upgrade to is the HD2..
I love this phone! It may be buggy, badly designed vanilla rom and feel like plastic in your hands after a while, but you can do anything with it! It's powerful, got a _sweet_ display and it's the best phone I've tried surfing the web with.. With Opera Mobile 10 that is.
There's no phone out there worth upgrading to yet, this phone has still got atleast 6-12 months left in my hands..
INMHO I do not think that this phone, the HTC HD, will obsoleted soon. The most I read in others forums the most I think that still the HTC HD is on the TOP. The capacitive screen seems better than the one of LEO or HTC HD2, at least for use most application or write an sms. In addition, I have seen this evening in the developers and hacking forum that a multi-touch driver has been released for our HTC HD, so we can have the best of both worlds. Even, the Android runs quite smooth in the HTC HD so you can switch between windows and Android in less than 2 minutes. I am not thinking in change my phone in this moment, I quite satisfied, but If I had not one, I will take the advantage of the new release of the LEO to get a very cheap HTC HD in the second hand market.
If HTC had sorted out the Qualcomm driver situation I'd be all over the HD2, but I'm thinking I'll skip this generation, just not enough of an upgrade for me at the moment...
HD is a great phone

Well, I have mine for about 3 months now.. ans I could have got many other phones.. but I agree with the superlatives you mentioned. skinny too, where most phones are a quarter brick in the pants.. I had to help a colleague with his Kaiser on a WM6.1 and use a stylus , only to realize and appriciate the touch HD.. Is it, eventually, become obsolete? yes, but at least not until 2011.. if I won't break it by then (flashing, or screen cracking it) I will keep it for a longer time. It simply suits my need. I am sure there will be other phoned, but until there is touch HD2 around, working in 3G US, I will keep it, flash it, test it and hope there will be enough chefs on this thread
Thank you folks for the sleepless nights you give me.. my wife is sure I have an affair, or I am into cyber sex.. until it does not stop- I will stay with the HD..

Hi BigE! Long time no speak!
Good to find you in here!! I need your help...
AS you probably remember, I am a Trinity user. With MSkip's ProPlus Ultimate 3.5 QVGA 110209 installed, I am basically at peace. It's perfect for my needs.
BUT...
Recently, I've been tempted to buy a Touch HD, disable the TouchFlo and install MSkip's ProPlus Ultimate 3.5. Is it worth it?
The bigger screen, the more powerful processor, etc, etc... Will I really notice the difference if I just use Spb MS3.5?
I know you're not a massive fan of Spb MS3.5... I use it purely as I need an appointment list on my Today Page. That's why I don't use Manila. That's why as far as I can see I would not be happy with the TouchFlo 3D on the Touch HD. Such a shame it's missing!
I look forward to your advice. Maybe you'll convince me to leave Trinity!?
Mattster.
Hello all -
I would like to know your option about the Touch Pro 2. Actually I've a Diamond and I really like it, but I'll replace it by Touch Pro 2.
What do you think about it? Is a good change? Have you did it before?
Thank you.
I went from the Diamond to the Touch Pro2. No regrets. The screensize, hardware keyboard, and performance destroys the Diamond.
But at this moment, you really have to consider the HD2. Also, with Windows Mobile 7 right around the corner, should people even still buy Windows Phones right now?
Tks ohyeahar!
When the WM7 will be ready? Will be possible to use the WM7 on the TP2.
I'll take a look the HD2.
Just another quick question:
How about the baterie performance using 3G all time?
Tks.
Go for Rhodium definitely! it´s a great device!
Of course if you are looking for a hardware keyboard upgrade, if not better to go for Diamond 2...
Orb, I'm not even sure the Diamond II is a good option... My dad has got one while I have the Rhodium. I upgraded from the original Diamond, & as someone already mentionned it, both the Diamond II & TP II blow the Diamond away.
Now, having played with the HD2 already, and being impressed by its speed, I would recommend that on too. But only if you got a pocket large enough for tht 4.3' screen, and if no keyboard suites you well.
If you want a keyboard, TP II, hands down. Hell, I wouldn't hesitate bying it full price again if god forbid, it was stolen. If you don't want a keyboard, HD2. Don't even bother with the Diamond II.

Nobody outside of Microsoft or HTC knows the answers to your questions. Target date according to leaked info points to sometime in 2010.

Battery performance is better than the Diamond. It's probably on bar with the official extended battery of the Diamond.

thats an HD2 not an TP2, HD2 is the only device from HTC which will be official compatible with WM 7.
because WM7 needs a capacitive tochscreen it will not work on TP2.

Haha, I hope they will release TP3 in time with WP7 I'm also curious about the dual core snapdragon processors which are announced with the end of this year

When I had the T-Mobile Wing they said we could not get WM6.5 and now thanks to XDA we have it. Now I have the TP2 and even though the screen doesn't support some of the command I would not be surprized if there was success in getting WM7 onto this phone (limited in functionality and may be very slow). At any rate I will be getting the HD2 on March 24 when it comes out to T-Mobile.

IMHO, the GUI is not that complex that you really need complex hardware. If MS really wanted, i believe it could run on a TP2 too (even with multitouch). 529Mhz is not that slow. And your TP2 has OPENGL 1.1? hardware which is not really used very well.
But like MS said, they put a lot of work to let the hardware and software work really together. Which in other words they say you need to buy new hardware (faster CPU, OPENGL 2.0; base ram 512MB)
Even now it could technically run on HD2, the HD2 device is not officially compliant with the 3 hardware buttons a Win7 mobile device needs (back, start , search). I wonder how to map the search button.
Let's only hope!
I am sure that if someone can get the current ROMs for the HD2, which are technically designed for a capacitive screen, to work on the TP2, I would bet money that someone will be able to port it over and make it work. We won't really know until stuff starts getting leaked. That would be great though. I would really like to give WP7 a test run before dumping $500 on a new phone!!
TP2 will be able to run WP7 (maybe there might be problems with OpenGL ES 2.0 missing). The right question is - will MS make BSP for it? I highly doubt it.

Yep me too. Although i'm gonna ditch my TP 2 as soon as I get confirmation of WM7 running on the hd2.
I saw somewhere that Windows Phone 7 will require a 1ghz processor. The HD2 has that and the Touch Pro 2 doesn't.
If someone does get Windows Phone 7 ported over, it's likely going to run a little slowly.
don't forget mandatory 4 point multitouch... that might be a problem for full functionality.
I seem to remember the guy who introduced WM7 (WPS7) saying something about the 7 series being slated for all manner of new phones including those with and without keyboards (I think he made reference to phones similar to BBs with keyboards on the face of the phones)...So unless the price of processors comes down significantly I really don't think every new phone running this 7 series OS will meet such demanding base requirements (1GHz processor, capacitive multitouch screens etc., etc.).
YES!

Touch Pro Series The Best Option HTC have!
according to several websites like: http://www.redmondpie.com/htc-hd2-to-get-windows-mobile-7-upgrade-9140128/ the HD2 will get windows mobile 7. but TP2 will most likely be up to the devs here at the XDA if they can do it. My feelings are that if they can get android going on TP2 (so far so good) then they can do windows mobile 7.
In my opinion, our devices are transition devices, most of us are waiting/hoping for a TP3 better than HD2, or at least with similar specifications as the HD2.
TP2 runs WP7, but it reminds me of my old Artemis with WM65 and TF2D, .
We´ll see it coming soon.
Cheers.
i have a blue angel runnign wm 6.5 so anything is possible especially if there is enough interest.
I understand why the move makes sense for MS but personally from what I've seen of WM7 I'm in no hurry for it to get here. Now if i could get my TP2 with a 1ghz cpu i might look at it but until the smart guys here at XDA figure out how to get past WM7's limitations i'm not in any rush to give up what I have.
It might be able to run it, but Microsoft and HTC aren't going to release anything needed to make an unofficial port happen. Sorry, but it's extremely likely that the TP2 is not going to get WM7, officially or otherwise.
And to everyone who always cites the example of Windows Mobile 6.5 running on an old device, I hate to break it to you but it's not that easy when dealing with WM7. Windows Mobile 7 is based off the Windows CE 6.0 kernel, while Windows Mobile 5 and 6.x are powered by the same CE 5.2 kernel, making a port of WM 6.x to a WM5 device pretty easy. It's much more difficult when you have a different kernel with from an OS that doesn't support most of your hardware, as it means someone has to create a BSP themselves.
No multi-tasking = No dice for me! It'd be like a downgrade! Loving my TP2 with Deep Shining Rom. I use my phone for a whole manner of things, usually business orientated. If I wanted the type of phone the Windows mobile 7 looks like it's gonna introduce, I would've bought an IPhone!
