Is it posible to somehow tweak the camera app so it can record videos in vga resolution???Diamond 2 is recording in vga resolution, and has the same hardware, the only difference is in software....

I just realised the the TP2 can record VGA (640x480) video. I played with the camera settings and found that if video recording format is set at MPEG4, the resolution can be set at up to VGA quality. If the recording format is set at H264 or H263, the resolution would only goes up to QVGA.
I would have preferred H264 over MP4. But at least I now know that TP2 can record VGA video. Hopefully future updates of the HTC camera app would add H264 VGA recording.
Are there other MSM7200 devices that can do H.264 at 640x480 at any reasonable framerate? I ask because as I understand it, it's pretty processor intensive to compress that amount of data...

so is this only for the msm7200 or also for the 7201a
Lord_BlackAdder how you do it?? explain please step by step, i already try all the settings in video recording and nothing, only the small resolution, no alternatives to change
hello..
i have a sprint touch pro 2.
i used to have the stock sprint wm6.5 rom installed. and it used to take okay-quality videos.
yesterday, i flashed energy rom, and since then, the quality is so bad. i use the same format (mp4 VGA), but the one on the energyrom is bad. a 10 second video on the sprint rom is around 1+mb.. on energyrom, it's only around 200kb. whats wrong with this?
thanks
'If you didnt know, AT&T disabled VGA video rec on the Pure, and Tilt2 while other service providers have it enabled. Anyways I think theres a way to get it enabled on the Tilt2 because I got it working on my Pure.
Heres the thread I made: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=729
What I did was I installed "BsbTweaks 1.6" and they have an option that you can enable "hidden camera modes". ONLY ENABLE "hidden camera modes" and make sure you DONT ENABLE "improve MPEG bitrate". If you enabled "improve MPEG bitrate" then Iam afraid its too late, you can turn it back off but you will not be able to record in VGA quality. You will have to hardreset and repeat the process. Anyways after the softreset go into the video camera options and change the format to 3GPP, then you can change resolution to 640x480 VGA.
I do not own a Tilt2 so I don't know if this would work, but because Tilt2 is supposed to have VGA video recording just like the all the other TP2 models, Iam guessing that it should work. It did work for my HTC Pure.
Here are the results:
10 seconds of QVGA MPEG video rec = 400-500kb
10 seconds of VGA 3GPP video rec = 900-1000kb
As you can see, the bitrate has doubled and the quality difference is very noticeable. Please can somebody test this and report back.

With the Tilt 2 being WVGA (480X800) what would the benefit of this be?
He's talking about video recording resolution, not the screen resolution. VGA is the highest resolution our device can record video.
I have both of those tweaks enabled and I can still select VGA resolution when I also select 3GPP format. I haven't done tests if it actually records in VGA, but that's what it says.
¿how can we know the limits of the video camera?
I mean.. think for a moment defy have a 3630 processor, capable of HD recording.
the sensor of the camera What recording types can do?
VGA/WVGA/D1/720P at 30 or 60FPS? for example.
There any way to know?
Recorded a video last night and uploaded it to Youtube but Im not impressed with the quality.
Checking the settings its set to 640x480 (VGA) but the video is awfully blocky. I was under the impression that VGA recording on the TP2 was rather good.
Am I expecting too much from the device or is there something amiss here?
Does noone have any input on this? Is the linked video what I should expect from TP2 video footage?
What settings did you use?
I use Resolution L (320x240) and Capture Format MPEG4
Comes out fine for me.
Capture Format: MPEG4
Resolution: VGA (640x480)
Its blocky both on the Youtube conversion and on the phone itself.
Could it simply be a result of poor recording venue?
If there is low light this will make a difference. But test and see. Try the slightly lower resolution (because then it can cope with better compression and may be less blocky). Would be interested if anyone else has different settings. Cheers.
Hey All....I tried all versions of this app (LG camera Pro) on Froyo 2.2.2....And recorded 480p
Now i have 2.3.3 But Can't record 480p with any version.... Whats the prob??? I don't understand....!!!When i switch to 640x480 resolution it records the video but after recording its resolution changes to 320x240......
Also i recorded 480p with galaxy y....My gio is fine i tried it on another 1 but still same prob
That's normal. On Froyo you are able to record in 640x480 but on gingerbread not. Switch to Froyo
I asked to some devs but anyone can solve this problem. It's a pity!
