Hi, I'm just creating my gold card to downgrade the Hero to be rootable but I wanted to know whether or not the Gold card needs to remain in the Hero once I have installed a custom ROM?
I have a 2gb one already which should do for the Gold card but I want to use my 8gb one for media and stuff.
Thanks again
Once you have installed the RUU and downgraded successfully you no longer need the Goldcard, its only used to bypass the CID check

Hi everyone.
Im new to the Rooting scene, and im kinda noob. Ive rooted my phone and Goldcarded my MS(4GB).
And today I downloaded ROMmanager and partitioned my SD card also known as my Goldcard. IS this stilll a goldcard now or have i messed up everything?
thanks.
You should be able to repartition your Gold Card and have it remain entirely as FAT32. It's your other SD Card (normal) that you are meant to partition, not the Gold Card.

haha, well the problem is, I only have one memcard. So ur saying it isnt possible to partition a goldcard and use it as as both GoldCard and a normal stick? That was mainly my intention with the card so far
BTW, do I need Goldcardx to install custom ROMs and enter the custom recovery menu etc.? or is it just to root the phone?
It's just to root your phone. You don't need it anymore to flash new roms.
Afaik there aren't any problems with using the goldcard as regular SD card.
you can enter recovery without goldcard, but you'll need it in future to install roms

No you don't - once you made your Desire "generic", you shouldn't need your goldcard again just to flash a new custom ROM.

Dave
I did everything with goldcard inside, so I'm not sure, but as I remember, people who debranded their Orange phones to 1.15, couldn't do successfull OTA to 1.21 (wifi stopped working) because there was no goldcard inside. Once they put goldcard inside, they could do complete OTA (although phone simlocked ):

Based on that, I always used goldcard to flash roms, but I could be wrong, I'm relatively new with this
Hey I'm new aswell and I used my goldcard to root and then partitioned it for apps2sd+ and its still all working fine so I don't think your phone will explode or stop working
dont worri even if you have partitioned your sd card, it will still work as a goldcard
Sorry guys if there is already a post out there with this information, however it is very late and I'm half dead...
I've read all the info on creating a Goldcard from my MicroSD, it advises me to take all data off the card before creating the Goldcard. My question is this: should I keep my Goldcard seperate and purchase another MicroSD to keep all my files on? Only using the Goldcard when flashing custom ROMs? Or can I transfer all my files back on to the MicroSD once it has been turned into a Goldcard??
Many thanks!
I don't know what's right or wrong, but I've used the same card for data etc. after creating it as a goldcard and have not had any problems.
You don't actually need two separate cards, you can use the Gold Card and even partition the card for Apps2SD. However, it is common practise to have a separate card as a Gold Card.

I think it's just personal preference. I have kept a seperate gold card and seperate MicroSD for data, just so I know I can format the Gold card without even thinking about the data.
whats the use of having a gold card now, post-unrevoked?
Open to further info, lol, just not sure why it would be needed.
Because some people like to do things the hard way ;c)

You still need a goldcard as part of the rooting process for branded handsets.
oh, really? I have a Telstra branded handset and simply used unrevoked. Is that what you mean by branded?
I actually tried the goldcard route before using unrevoked (before I found out that unrevoked could do it...), however the MicroSD card supplied with my Telstra handset wouldn't work when following any of the goldcard guides.
I have rooted two Telstra branded htc desire using Unrevoked and running now custom roms without any issue. The only issue was windows xp drivers.

Hi,
I have looked through all the information about rooting and then using the 2.2 RUU file to update to the generic 2.2 ROM. I just have a couple of question:
Can I still do this even though my phone is locked to Orange still? Or do I need to get an unlock code first? Does this also affect upgrading the radio?
When I create the Gold Card do I need to keep it - i.e do I need to buy another SD card make it a Gold Card and then keep it somewhere safe?
Finally, what is the best way of backing up the phone first.
Thanks
Best to make the gold card your usual card to save switching between them both as you'll need it for ALL future updates after debranding
Thanks, I have created the Gold Card now.
What about the phone being locked to Orange network? Can I still root without the phone then requiring an unlock code? Do I even need to root if I just want to install the stock 2.2 ROM from HTC?
You don't need to root to install a stock ROM, just the gold card and the RUU file
Hi,
I recently had wifi issues with OTA update of HTC desire (patch). this i understand because I didnt have goldcard during the OTA.
So , I decided to make my everyday card (16Gb) into a gold card.... Done without any trouble.
My doubt is..
Should I use the update once more in this gold card also to continue receiving future OTA updates ?
In other words...do the phones identify the goldcards used for flashing and need the same goldcard for future updates???
(I know its a very silly question...but couldn't resist it..as I am naive...)...
request somebody to answer...
thanks in advance...

no you dont need the same goldcard, you could use one for one update and a diff one for another, dosent matter
Not naive, good question, something I wondered about too.
If I make my main card a gold card and use that after using a previous goldcard will it cause problems?
Also is there a reverse gold card procedure should I want to revert my desire to T Mobile OTA in the future without a gold card ?

i dont understand what you mean by a reverse goldcard if you have a t-mobile branded desire and you use a goldcard to flash a generic rom, you can still flash back to your branded rom without the need for a goldcard

To reverse it use a T-Mobile RUU, unless you have an SLCD screen!
I don't think the T-Mobile FroYo RUU is available yet.
Just check shipped-roms hopefully it'll turn up soon.
Thanks, I thought I would have to unroot or do something else.
So to confirm
T Mobile 1st wave Desire non SLCD
Gold Card made
HTC Rom 2.1 flashed with gold card in
OTA Upgrade to 2.2 with gold card in
OTA upgrade recent patch with gold card in - current state
If I wanted now to revert for example for a warranty issue:
I could just flash 2.1 T Mobile original rom without goldcard to get back to out of the box condition
I could then do the T Mobile OTA to 2.2 when it is released again with no worries about gold card not being present and killing the wifi connection.
Thanks for clarifying, I think it will help folks with Gold card concerns.

noooooooooo, if you are using the froyo ota you cant use a ruu to go back to 2.1 because you have the newer hboot!! if you flashed a custom rom to get froyo with the new hboot removed you can ....
Also found this thread with video tutorials, very good
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
So what can you do if you have the new hboot from the OTA upgrade from HTC to go back to T-mobile 2.1 out of the box standard?
Hi All,
Looking to upgrade from my current 8GB micro to 16GB.
I want to keep the goldcard without hassle of having to do it all again. Can i just image the existing 8GB card and restore to new 16GB one? Will this retain the 'goldcard.
Or now that i'm on root with s-off and custom ROM does it even matter if i don't have the goldcard?
Thanks
Bump!
Anyone??

Like u said, u have root, S-OFF and now on custom ROM.
It doesn't matter anymore for the Goldcard.
Unless u S-ON the device back, change out the CID back to the carrier-branded CID, flash a stock ROM RUU on it, would u then need the Goldcard to ''downgrade'' again. This is my understanding.
That is right. And if you, hbt15, did Radio S-OFF via my tool including SuperCID, you now have a "god-mode Goldcard" built into your phone
