Hi all, I got my touch pro 2 through Orange a while back and I have this frustration which is really ticking me off. The touch screen stopped working!
It looked like it had a fine film of transparent oil which surrounded a fine grid pattern which you could see if you held your phone against the light at an obscure angle. Nothing is more infuriating than trying to back up your phone, or import emails onto the computer before sending it away for repair, to find that the back up software that comes recommended can't be installed because... wait... you guessed it.... you need the soddin touch screen to install the bloody thing.
My question to you guys is this, has anyone found a way to use the keyboard as an alternative to 'ok', 'cancel', 'install' and other important functions?
It has already been away for repair becuase of this 'recognised' issue, and now it's gone again. I'm getting fed up with HTC stuff going faulty on me, and i've had a lot of their products, however nice the phone is.
Thanks in advance for any and all assistance...

i have been using the p3300 for a month now an it was working fine but all of a sudden i couldn't use my stylus. i tried the screen allignment but the screen didnt respond so i restarted the device. this also didnt work. i also tried a soft reset. no results so i did a hard reset now i am stuck at the screen where it says " Tap to start your device "
Plz Help....
Hi
It sounds then like the touch function of the screen has stopped working.
If you have only had it a month depending on where you got it you may be able to return it.
Sorry about this
Cheers Dave
maybe
seems like that to me too
still i hope i wont need to
anyway thanks
no problem
Anytime
If you have not yet returned it, try taking the screen protector off if you have one on.
My screen stopped responding to touch a while back. When I took the protector off all was fine.
could be it
may be but i am not sure about it i will try it nonetheless
Thanks
screen needs rest ??
nope no use the screens gone crazy i guess
it recognises a few strokes when left for a few hours the goes dead again
maybe it need some rest
On the screen, round the edges make sure there’s no gunk under the gap between the case and screen. You will be surprised what can get under there. Flat Plastic tooth picks are good for clearing it
i am nooob
cant try it
dont really know how to remove the screen guard
cant find the seam
Hi
You might not be a Noob. You can only remove a Screen Guard/Protector if you have actually put one one.
Also i still dont think there is much you can do.
If it does work after a while it is possible that the screen calibration has gone haywire If you get chance to use it try doing that it may help
Cheers Dave
mine to same problem please help
my tp2 touch screen is not responding suddenly!!! the problem started only after i answered some call through the screen slider, however, the touch screen is not responding to my fingers ever since !!!!
now i'm operating the phone only through the buttons !! but as if it is not touch screen!!
anyone have a clue about what the problem can be?? please help me. my device runs wm 6.5 and this is the first time to have this problem, i did soft reset many times but no imrovment!!
I had SOD this early morning and it was my first, do you guys think there is a relation between these events???
I have the same problem.
Just happened this morning.
I was able to use my mobiler to access the screen.
Tried several hard resets. No luck.
Tried re-installing energy Rom (4.1)
Then tried the new Energy Rom (4.11) still no luck.
But then I got the big idea to go back to the stock ROM. Now I cannot use the on screen prompts to access "my mobiler"
Anybody have any suggestions or is it back to AT&T for a new phone?
so whe you back to the stock rom, did u get ur screen working again??
No. no workey
Now that stock rom is on. I keep going back to the "Sim Card Changed" screen. I can not tap "cancel" or "Next". I can use the hard buttons so I am able to get to the phone and then use keyboard to dial.
Still no touch screen. And no work around with keyboard to get to screen. need a "Tab" button. then might be okay.
this sucks.
Just a quick bump before I go to AT&t in the morning.
Try running task 29 and then flash back to a stock.
And have you tried taking your sim card out of you're phone? Maybe that will avoid the message.
i'm buying a black berry
Does your screen look as if an oily residue is under the touch screen part?
My screen stopped responding a few weeks after the appearance of the 'oil' and Vodafone swapped it with no problems. It seems like a fairly common problem
yes, I've got that oily spot and somehow i managed to relief the problem only for minutes when i raised the digitizer carefuly which got me the screen working for few minutes untill it went unresponsive again after while. I'm looking forward to do alcohol swab to this oily spot and will see weather this will solve the problem..
Dead Touchscreen, i said to myself its not a big deal i can live without it until i take it to tmobile to get fix. Five Min later got a text and i can't even click send to reply to the text now i honestly need the touchscreen... any alternative way to hit send?
dont just view it reply to it please...
Hello,
maybe this has a simple solution:
I had a dead touchscreen some days ago, even a reset didn't help. Then I removed the screen protector foil (Martin Fields) and everything was fine. Somehow the screen protector continuously triggered the touchscreen at one point so no other input was possible.
If you use a screen protector, try to remove it. Or try a hardreset.
If all else fails, you'll have to send your device in for fixing it. Until then, maybe you can get along with a software called MyMobiler. It lets you use the Phone right from your Computer via ActiveSync. So you should be able to send a message but I dont know if you get it installed without the use of touchscreen.

i know a program called Dashwire that works the same way but threw your Internet browser, and i think ur right about the screen part, at one point my screen kinda flex in when touch , now it sit flat.
Edit: There are ways to remap the keys http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=91134&highlight=remap+hardware+keys
That tip about removing the screen protector was spot on.
My TP2 is working again, I was worried for a couple of days
Thanks!
Recently I began to notice a problem with my phone. Whenever I have the keyboard slid out the touch screen is almost non-responsive. So over the past few days I've tried observing what the exact problem is and I think it could be the cable/ribbon that connects the touch screen to the keyboard. I'll have to tilt the screen back and forth before it will actually recognize me touching it. And I've noticed when I rub that ribbon it seems to work. There's also a crease in the ribbon where it folds on it when you close it. I believe this is the problem but I'm not sure and I want any advice/tips I can get. If it is the cable can you order a new one and replace it yourself?
Thanks in advance
Any ideas anyone? I cant get it to half work so I can text and stuff but I have to press it hard and it still wont work at times so something somewhere or another is wrong.

Flash the stock ROM and SPL, and do a warranty exchange. This isn't a device you want to open up unless you really know what you're doing and are certain of the issue. If you really want to give it a go, then just buy a non-functioning unit from eBay to use for parts. They can normally be had for less than $40.
Wow, I cant believe that I finally found someone with the same problem as I have.
At first I thought that it was a software issue and I reloaded the software on my device.
The screen responds to presses with the keyboard in, but extended it doesnt respond and only the external keyboard works.
So to type a nice long sms I would have to start it on my display, flick out the keyboard to carry on and then flick it back in before I could press send or anything.
How frustrating.
But I did a test now and flicking the keyboard out and then slowly slowly pushing it back in I can get to a stage where both the external keyboard and screen responds at the same time again.
Definitely a ribbon problem or something.
Only had this phone for a few months now and if it already doing this then I am not feeling too obtimistic about its future.
Well, time to take it in for a warranty repair. I wonder how much greaf I am in for now.
Time to pull out my awesome trusty Artemis out the cuboard.

I had a friend that had this problem with his TP2 which I've successfully repaired. First thing if you want to do it yourself, go to youtube and look for the Rhodium disassembly video (this will help you a lot). It is not difficult to change any parts in the phone provided that you proceed with caution and take the necessary precautions.
If you are afraid or have never opened up a phone to fix parts, then I would suggest to send it to HTC - this would be devastating if you managed to break up the motherboard by mistake or any other parts in the process of fixing the flex cable.

Did you ever find resolution to your problem? Recently my phone started having the same problem, which I originally thought was related to messing up the calibration file when I put loaded xdandroid GBX0A.
However, it sounds like my problem is pretty similar to yours -- touchscreen works fine when the keyboard is closed, but when it is open it only registers on the bottom of the screen -- which is actually useful in some sense because I can still hit the soft keys in the messaging app and such, but not so useful if you want to scroll using the touch screen. If I play around with the z-hinge a bit, sometimes it starts working -- which sounds like the same thing that you described.
Sorry, I just seen your post but I never fixed mine as I went ahead and bought another phone (Evo) but I did research the problem quite extensively and the problem I believe lies in the ribbon that connects the two halves of the phone. If I remember correctly the motherboard is in the side with the keyboard and that's why when it's slide out, the touch screen won't respond correctly. You can find the part online and replace it yourself. I've taken mine apart and it's not that hard but as said, you need the right tools and to be very careful.
Hi guys
I have tried all the above
Last resort is i got sprite backyup to work
BUT HOW THE HELL DO YOU HIT "NEXT" OR "OK" FROM THE KEYBOARD AS SCREEN DOESNT WORK????
A few days ago I succesfully (at least I thought so..) flashed my Desire to Cyanogenmod 7 using Amon-ra and it worked perfectly, until today out of nowhere my screen is black with a couple of white lines from top to bottom. One minute it worked as normal, and a couple of minutes later when I pressed the top button to unlock it, the screen was all weird. The touch functions of the screen seem to work as normal, I can unlock the screen, shut it down, power it up, enter my pin etc (blindly) but I see only the vertical lines so it's hard to check what's going on. I do see that the lines "move" when something changes on the screen, like when I unlock it, I see that the screen does react on it, but only some lines appear, move or disappear. For the rest, the sound works as normal when I turn op the volume, as does the vibrating.
I have a PVT4 S-on (thats all I remember) if it makes any difference.
Picture is from a camera, not a screenshot. Looks a bit yellow or so but the background is black, and the lines are white.
Does anyone know what it caused and what I can do to fix it? Maybe reset it or reflash it someway?
Many thanks in advance!!
Where's the picture?
You might want to give HTC a ring.
Request from puntchiel, a picture of his mobile phone:

Hm I forgot the picture, my friend len posted a link for me, for Im not yet able to do that cauz Im a nub
Thx len!
Yeh, send it to HTC or your carrier. It looks so ****ed
Well, sending it back and profiting from my insurance is my last option cuz I wont have it back for at least a month. Does anyone know what it could have caused or what could be a way to solve this highly annoying thing? I can't imagine that it is a hardware problem that occured this sudden... And the screen is reacting to my input but it only shows the frikkin lines! So I hope that it is a software problem. I just have no idea how to solve it, so thats why I'm asking the pro's on this forum
And btw, if I'm sending it back I need to make sure that they don't find out of the custom software on my device. That leaves me only two options I quess, fixing it or completely smashing it... So if someone at least knows how to use a RUU or something via my PC (without having to use the screen of my desire), your help is very much appreciated!!!

Ohh yeah thats helpful; i am sure he did not think to contact htc himself
That picture recalls bad experience with my ex Nokia 5800xm. I had to replace display.
Maybe it is not same case but it looks same.
I have exactly the same problem, flashed cm7 on my desire a few months ago.
Worked all fine.
Then yesterday all of a sudden i had a black screen with white lines.
Maybe you, puntchiel, have found any sollution?
I'm sorry Hanswurst, I had my ensurance company pick up my device and they replaced the screen, so I asume it was a hardware problem. I wish I could help you buddy. Good luck with it!
