I was just wondering, because this phone has a great camera, and I've seen people do some wonderful things with it, in terms of extra uses.
So, has there been any kind of drivers made that will hook this up to the computer as USB webcam? I'd love that.

What are you talking about? I just meant using the camera as a simple plug and play webcam for a computer.
Its possible. When I installed CM6, and plugged the phone into my computer for the first time since the update, then it asked to install camera drivers to use it as a webcam, working with my camera software n all.

Also, you don't have to open any apps on the phone? You simply open the camera and it's connected as a webcam?

Theres an apk usb webcam that does require a computer side program to be installed. But it worked fine with msn and skype. I remember googling android phone as usb as a webcam

Yeah this app works great, goes over wfi and simple enough to set up. Works wonderfully with msn! Since i dont have a webcam, my i9000m can be used instead! No streaming audio atm but soon the devs say

Where do I get the app for the phone ?
The title states this can be used as an HD Webcam... I tried the standard HD resolution (From Wikipedia: 720p is the shorthand name for a category of HDTV video modes having a resolution of 1280×720) but with this resolution the app FC's which it states it does if not setup correctly. The highest resolution I can goto is 480x480, going any higher on either height or width causes distortion in the picture. Anyone have any other suggestions for getting this to be HD?

At least you can get it to work. I used the recommended settings, it still wants me to force close; even in 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7, it only shows the DroidCam logo in the Skype video area.

Isn't it only Wi-Fi? Should I use EasyTether and try it like that over the USB cable?

AFAIK it is only wifi, what I meant is could it be the pc isn't "seeing" the phone over the network? Or vice-versa.

Well the phone connected, the PC says "Connected". I could only get the phone to connect once though. Once I've connected and disconnected by a force close, the program no longer connected even when I can telnet into the computer on that port. This happened to all 3 computers I tried.

Hmm, that is rather weird, even after the FC's for me it still works, I just lowered the resolution. All I can think of is telling the dev about it and see if they can help or if someone else here can help. I don't know that much about the way this works really.

Oddly enough, I think I could try it via EasyTether and see since that /is/ an Ethernet connection meaning it will work to connect by IP.

I confirmed it worked. Thanks for the idea . Well; you didn't quite give me the idea but you helped me come up with it .
Although, the same issue is happening with the transport something.
Im having an issue. After using for over 10minutes straight I get a time limit error message on my pc screen and it drops the connection and im forced to restart both apps on phone and pc. Help?
Also I cant go above recommended settings. Would this be updated in the future? especially since my phone is capable of recording 720p?

Instead of a poor mirror system, i'd like to put a webcam in the backseat of my truck to watch my kid in the carseat, using my GSIII as a video display. Does any software exist to make this possible?
I could use my old iPhone 3GS, a usb webcam, a bluetooth webcam (if it exists) or a wifi webcam if i can set up my phone as a LAN.

The iphone was replaced by the GS3 and doesn't have an account. The 3GS also doesn't have a front camera, so i think skype is unavailable for that model. (processor speed too...)

Skype doesn't need a front camera (used it on my captivate without any problem and had a 1Ghz processor).
And you can make 2 accounts on skype without any problem, just use 2 different email.
Anyway, worth giving it a shot.

Oh I see, my bad.
I dunno if there's a app that allows video streaming through BT or Wifi but could be something to look into.
I just bought an OTG cable that lets you plug in USB devices. Works great for keyboard & mouse - even wireless! But not sure if it will work with webcam. I think I have one lying around - I can test when home. Not sure if it will need drivers. I have seen people use it with other USB devices like flash drives but those might be simple (in terms of drivers) compared with a webcam.
EDIT: I tried it out but didn't work. The keyboard & mouse worked right away, so it's possible there are drivers for that already installed on the ROM. Possibly if you could get a driver to work, then the webcam might work through this cable but not sure.

I have bougt a hdmi miracast dongle at eBay.
It is mediatek CPU based and only accept a micro USB connection.
Attached to this message are two pictures that show the inside and the outside.
This dongle is a zk technologies w18 dongle and beside miracast it should also support Intel widi.
Unfortunately it doesn't support... and I cannot connect my laptop to the dongle.
I can connect two different phones with 4.2.1 android, but no success with Intel widi
Any one has a device like this? Any idea where can i get a new firmware?

So i will have to wait for a while and see what is their "hardware" upgrade...

Sorry I was wrong. I want to connect my macbook to device, so I have to establish computer-to-computer connection. The right words should be, "supporting computer-to-computer wifi connection".
My questions:
I just bought device hdmi dongle (w18) and try to find way for connecting my macbook.
Could you please tell is it possible? Should I update firmware for that, and can I do it at home PC for existing device?
Does device support wifi access point mode, because I found that mac os x have no wifi direct?

I have a device that internally looks the same, although I do not know who produced it, but where your's say MT-WFD18, mine says RLM218_1.1, and just below W-SL + 2813.
I haven't tried anything else than just miracast, which worked not so well, was fairly slow screen update, with sound out of sync while using Dice Player on my LG G2.
When i read det description from the seller it mentions something about 'intuitive interface', from what I can see, it is just a bootlogo static screen, is there a standard way of communicating with these devices, like common SW that do something, or is it likely the intuitive interface is just that, static screen?
Did anyone find any hacks/fw updates for these?

Got sound after a reboot, but it disconnected after half a minute and sound didn't come back since. I am also interested in an update to make it more stable...

The original is made in china:
ZK-W18 Miracast dongle.
Playback is a little choppy.
Any ideas to improve playback?

I have this device too (allview branded). Worked for a while, then sound dissappeared, then it kept restarting, then just gives black screen. I suspect it's overheating, and maybe it is damaged because of that. Not recomended...

I'm having some trouble with Android Auto. My new OnePlus 11 will only connect "Charging Only" and will not connect for File Transfer / Android auto.
If I connect via USB and enable "USB Tether" it worked for a second, enough to pop Android Auto, and then disables...
It did work for a phone-to-phone transfer using OnePlus's transfer app!
What else have I tried:
1) Hard reset to factory
2) developer mode - I just tried editing the default connection mode (after enabling developer mode) and still nothing.
3) USB monitor - Indeed I have also tried a USB monitor, and nada. It connects to power and then disconnects immediately.
Verification! Both my car and the monitor connected perfectly with no additional config to my OnePlus 9, and my Oneplus 7 Pro today.
Any suggestions?
Exact same problem here...after trying to connect nothing happens (in Skoda Kamiq). Phone says it's connected to android auto. Strange things is it works without problems in my other car (Toyota Aygo). Seems like a compatibility issue in with car hardware or software. Probably a system update is needed to fix this sinds it's a new phone.

For me it's more than one device that does not work. Both Android Auto on my 2018 Nissan Leif and my external monitor. Both of which worked perfectly with my OnePlus 9.

This is all retail OnePlus 11 with Oxygen 13 no mods.
When I plug the cable into my phone in the car, I got a pop-up screen asking what I want to do with the connection. One of the options is File Transfer / Android Auto. Does that happen for you?

Yes, but makes no difference what option I choose. Besides that I got the same popup in my other car and it works fine.

Yes, both the cable that worked with the OnePlus 9 and the cable that came with the Oneplus 11.

I spoke to support and they wanted to replace my device, by just returning it!
I would have to be without a device (I traded in my old one). I would likely move to Samsung rather than be without a phone. Then return it.

I phones them. We went through everything. It's 100% the phone as the same issue manifest with multiple devices. Car & Monitor.
I'm sure this is software related because it works in my other car. I wouldn't return my device to find out the new phone has the de problem. Also read alot about Samsung users (s23) with connection issues for Android Auto.
I'm somehow relieved it's a software problem so they CAN fix it, the question is, when..
