It's been a while since I put out a new rom, but I figured I should be able to at least give you all something while I continue to sort out build problems with WM6.5. Due to conditions with college, I can't release a stable WM6.5 rom until around Thanksgiving.
Thanks to Makuu (especially), Lenny, AstainHellbring, the creators of the tools I used to make this rom, and anyone else that I failed to mention in name who gave me the knowledge to complete this rom.
Asus Mypal A6x6 WM6.1 version 2
Windows CE version 5.2.21054 (Build 21054.1.6.7)
This was tested on an Asus Mypal A626 (and works). It should work with the A686/A696, but the other models were not tested. Any other models not metioned above WILL NOT WORK.

At this time, this will be the only download link. Mirrors will be created in the future (after I give permission).
Instructions (I have included a txt file with same instructions for offline convenience)
Before you do anything, make sure you have at least a 256mb SD card and a card reader (you can get one at a place like Radio Shack or Office Depot). You also need to install winrar (found at http://www.win-rar.com/index.php?id=943&dl=wrar390.exe). Your SD card must be formatted with the FAT16 file system.
To format your SD Card with the FAT16 file system
Step 1: To do this insert the SD Card into the reader and go to "My Computer".
Step 1a: BACKUP YOUR FILES before you start!!
Step 2: Right-click the drive letter of the SD Card reader (differs for each computer, probably either E:\ or F:\ or G:\) and click "Format".
Step 2a: Don't worry about any of the options except for file system, choose "FAT"
Step 3: Click "Start" and wait until it is done
Step 1: Get (OS) rom image
Step 2: Extract files to any folder on hard drive using Winrar
Step 3: Go to the folder where you extracted the files in the RAR archive
Step 4: Make sure that the filename is "CANNES_A_WM6.img"
Step 4a: if the img file it's not exactly "CANNES_A_WM6.img", rename it to that
Step 5: Format the SD card if you haven't already done so using the instructions above
Step 6: Copy the img file to the SD card, see step 6a
Step 6a: Make sure that the img file is the ONLY file on the SD card after formatting
Step 7: Take SD Card out of SD Card reader and put it in the a6x6
Step 8: Make sure that the a6x6 is plugged in via ac adapter before doing the next few steps
Step 9: activate SD Loader using the following instructions {
Step 9a: Hold down the power button and enter button (that's the button in the center of the d-pad)
Step 9b: Double tap the soft reset button while holding the other 2 buttons
Step 9c: After double tapping the soft reset button, keep the other 2 buttons held until a blue screen comes up that says something like Asus Cannes flashing utility
Step 9d: Wait until the process is finished (it's near the end when it says "writing private")
}
Step 10: At this point, your a6x6 should reboot on its own
Step 11: enjoy your updated rom
If you have any questions, feel free to just post or PM me.
As I release new roms, if you have a support question, please give me the rom version so I know what rom you are working with. You can get the rom version from the filename of the rom pack.
Example: Asus_A626_WM614_1
A626 = device (most often it will be A626, will rarely be different), WM614 = os version, 1 = release #
I will clean this rom up a little (it's good, but it could be better) and try to get something out in the next few days. I am also testing a new download service, so I would also like some feedback comparing this one to the old one.
My work is free for everyone's use, but if you feel compelled to give a donation towards my work (I am a full-time college student working on this in what little spare time I have), my paypal e-mail is "[email protected]"
thanks Steven
I test this in my A696 and i tell why
see you later

I can't download
Hi, sorry to bother you, but maybe you can put it somewhere else? I cannot download, it says that the offer is not available in my country...
Steve - can you upload to a different file sharing site... this one i can't download from without paying or entering in some peronsal info. Maybe you can start a torrent that way we can all seed it to help get it out to people without too much trouble.
I'll test out this ROM then. Hope you havent given up on 6.5.
You can download it here.

Steven855, can you explain how and with wich tools you work ? Or can you release a kitchen to help us to make translated rom (It's for the french one)
Folg : Oups ! I removed the link.
No pb I think he want to make some money, we can download freely and he is paid for his work.
You don't HAVE to put in your REAL information to get to the download. You can also keep refreshing the offers until you can find one that you can skip.
It has just been brought to my attention that Windows Marketplace 2.0 has just been released. Everything should still work (and get updated) with no problem.
Well I have tried but have been unsuccessful at getting the download by skipping or entering bogus information into the download site. I spent at least 30 mins messing around with it and have spent 29 more mins than I should have. I'd love to help test the new rom but I'd rather spend those 30 mins testing the rom than trying to get some stupid download site to work.
Steve if you want money I'll send you some
I said way back when that I'm making a donation to the 6.5 or 6.5.1 rom
creator when it is released.
I promise that if enough people tell me they hate the new download site (I did say I was testing a new download source and I wanted feedback, thanks), I will move it to a new server.
I didn't mean to be too negative... wasn't having the best day at work. I finally got it to download, hint to others when the lightbox popup is up keep an eye on the title across the top of it, if you skip enough ads it will eventually change to a continue here link and allow you to download.
Steve - keep up the good work! I'll flash tomorrow and report back with my test results.
hi, it's me again. damn, but i live in a Russia and can't download from this share. Steven, would you be so kind to download it to another site? Maybe rapidshare or something like that? You could pass an archive and give pass only in private messages or sumthin' like that...

that should not make a difference (the download service said you can still download the file if you get the "offer not available in your country" error), you might need to keep refreshing (or skipping) until you get it

The 'offer not available' is presented in a kind of popup but without a skip option (only a 'X').
The facebook page is a full page thing, no skip button either.
I have tried several times at different times of the day, I always end up on that face-book login page (I find that strange I would expect it to jump back)
I'll try a few more times.

well, i have tried the new rom, but (I think) I've got some problems with step 6. While holding enter and power button I saw a blue screen constanly appearing and dissapearing. So I double tapped the soft reset and... nothing! blue screen continued to appear and dissapear...question: what i'm doing wronG? i've got asus a696

I know I have been lurking for quite a while but hold on to your hat.
While reviewing the new PPC devices running WM2005 in Tech-Ed I discovered a BlueAngle device with a WM2005 sign above it. Thinking someone made a mistake I took a closer look... The images are crappy but hey, it's a BlueAngle.
I will make an attempt to get a ROM backup of it but not sure if I can... This at least proves that there is indeed a ROM out there for this device..
Do you know who was presenting on the stand (Microsoft, HTC or a Telecoms Carrier)?
Did you try the device out and was it FULLY functional (Telephone, camera, wifi, bluetooth etc) or was it a basic implementation of WM2005 without drivers for BlueAngel hardware?
I'm sure there will be a lot more interest in this thread if you are able to get hold of the unit for "testing"!
Happy hacking...
Yeah, lets get a hand on it, man! 'd be nice, if a version of magneto would leak out...
Nice! I was getting my hopes down, but now it looks like it's a matter of time until we get our hands in that baby
MrHappy, if you managed to get the Rom off that device you would make ALOT of people VERY happy. If you can do this, you will be the most popular person on Blue Angel forums everywhere .
But, I have the same questions as Bebbo.
1) Whose device is it? Microsoft? HTC? etc
2) Is it fully functional?
I would SO just go up to the device, stick in an SD Card, dump the Rom, and run away .
hey that would be great if you can handle that!

Ha ha ha, I second that advice
Yeah, it looked like it had all the pieces.
How do i backup a rom? xbackup? Believe me, if I can get a backup of it i will....
pointers on anything that will just backup when I put the sd card in?
did you see htc alpine aka pda 2 aka xda2i with 2005?
if so could you try getting that rom aswell
goodluck
For all I know, this is the only way http://en.pdamobiz.com/en/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=151
Which will be quite hard for you to do
hell dude there is no way they are going to let me synch this thing up with anything. Isn't there a program I can autorun on my sd card that will do it? As you can imagine, they are hovering over this rack and the phones are clamped down tight.
you dont have to sync it, just close wcecomm in your taskmanager and follow the procedure 2 posts above, should work as usual
Just ROB IT AND RUNAWAY!! :>
But you still need a PC connected???
What we need is an app to put on the SD card -> put card in PDA -> copy application to PDA -> run it -> data written to SD card. (itsme - where are you when we need you????)
Okay i´ve got an easier procedure:
1: download this program: http://www.mcinternet.net/iwan/mtty.zip and place it onto desktop
2: CTRL+ALT+DEL and close wcescomm.exe in your taskmanager (only if you got active sync)
3: at the pocket pc: hold reset (with stylus) + speech record button + Off/On button - hold it for some seconds now it will be shown the Bootloader
4: start the tool mtty.exe just keep \\.\WCEUSBSH001 and right of that the USB , then just click OK
5: open a new blank file in the program and when you see typed: USB>
you have to click d2s
6: wait until the program shows: ************************************************** *******
Store image to SD/MMC card successful.
USB>
7: than just reset the pocket pc
now youve got an backup on you sd card (by the way it should be bigger than 64MB´s)
-----------
to get the backup file onto your desktop computer (you need an Cardreader on you pc):
1: load this program: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=60435 (NTRW.exe) copy it on C:\NTRW\
2: Press START Button -> Run... -> type in "cmd" without the ""
3: now it will be shown: C:\Documents and settings\your user name>
4: type: cd\ntrw
5: after that type: ntrw read windowsmobile.nb1 C:
6: then you have to wait a few minutes (i waited about 10)
7: you find the windowsmobile.nb1 in your c:\ntrw folder
8: upload it
greets and hopefully it works
As previous comment - This requires a PC to complete and MrHappy is at a show with a PDA on a stand - No connected PC.....
We need a simple util on the PDA itself....
dumped, i don´t know any tool using only the pda... like from some other posts grab it and run
There aren't any tools to do it that way... You need to be in bootloader for it to work.. And in bootloader you can't run anything on the pda...
So i think that without the PC connection it will be impossible to do it.
Quoting itsme from the Wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=XDAtools he has a tool which ...
You can even read and write images to and from bootloader SD-cards through ActiveSync while your device still has its OS running.
Click to collapse
I guess this works the same way as the developer tools for CE (They link into the PDA directly via ActiveSync)
I have PM'd him and asked if it is possible to do this direct on the PDA itself ... here's hoping.
The problem here is that he has NO PC. I believe we also have a time limit, as Tech-Ed doesn't stay around for ever.
Can you bribe the person at the booth to turn around while you walk out with it? I'm sure we could get enough people here willing to contribute to the bribe fund .
Or alternatively, can you bring a laptop? (ROFL)
But seriously, unless we can find a way to dump the Rom to an SD Card using a Pocket PC program WHILE the OS is running, we are out of luck here.
Well, even though this will likely end up in failure, at least we know that WM2005 for Blue Angel is within our grasp.
I wasn't expecting to do this, but I had a 2 hour delay at my college due to snowy weather, so I decided to take the time to upload my 1st official WM6.5 rom for the Asus A6x6 early. Keep in mind that this rom is far from perfect and the fancy new WM6.5 today screen is not working (looks like the today screen from WM6/6.1).
Thanks to Makuu (for helping to get me started), Lenny, AstainHellbring (thank you for all the nightly help sessions), the creators of the tools I used to make this rom, and anyone else that I failed to mention in name who gave me the knowledge to complete this rom.

ASUS A696 User
Hi, Thanks for the release and good work. Since this is only the beginning (I hope), I begin to inform the performance firmware on my PDA (ASUS A696).
1 - Bluetooth - does not work (does not receive or send files)
- In the settings instead of the icon is a black square.
2 - Today - of all the elements shown only date and time, and only in the old form (as in the previous OS). I wish that Today was like other communicators.
3 - Start - which happened to all the sounds from the "Sounds and Notifications"?
4 - Software & others - as the 696 series have more memory, you can not throw out the program and plug-ins.
Waiting for a new version
Sorry for my English? i'm from Ukraine).

A few comments on your post:
1. I will check on the bluetooth situation. When I tested bluetooth, I didn't quite test file exchange enough.
2. I am working on a remedy/fix for the today screeen. However, I have no idea how long it will take for me to get it working.
3. This is just a matter of updating a few files. I used an older (and verifiably working) package to give non-phone support.
4. I am aware that the A696 and the later version of the A626 carry more flash rom space than the older version of the A626 and the A686. However, no matter what device I make roms for, there is a finite amount of space to fit everything into. As operating systems and programs progress, they get bigger and bigger. If everything keeps growing in file size, there is less space to fit more items, so I must remove some files/programs to keep within that finite limit of storage space. Where do all the files that I put into the rom go? Well, if you take a look at your storage memory, you will see that the total storage memory available is less than the standard 256 rom size.
I've downloaded and successfully flashed. Working good so far. I'm just installing some programs that I normally use and haven't run into an issue yet. It will be nice to have a working home screen but for now it isn't that big of a deal. I don't use bluetooth often so I can't comment on that yet. Wifi working, my music plays with S2P, I used windows market place to install netflix and office.
Keep up the good work!
Good job, but there are many failures to complete.
1) Today
2) Pictograms from former versions
3) "Sounds and Notifications"
4) Black pictogram Bluetooth in menu
5) When I close program - PDA show me Today(but must show menu)
6) Where is Oficce?
7) The pictograms not move in Start menu(only "Move to top")
Can you change your previous OS(WM6.1 rom version 2) context menu, pop-up menu and other for new from this OS?
P.S.: Sorry if you don't understand me I used translator...
Do you have french rom...?
Thank you.
just tested this build together with your WM6.1 release.
first impression - looks nice
even though seems slower on A696 - but this could be just because it's not tailored fully.
1) didn't test bluetooth much but seems to work fine with sending/recieving. I'd even say it's faster than on WM6.1 v2 release;
2) "Sounds and Notifications" problem with Events from previous v2 WM6.1 build;
3) under "System - Bluetooth" sometimes on BT icon there's black square - didn't notice when it happens though;
4) closing program throws you into Today screen insted of previous step;
5) same problem with Task Manager as I've said in previous thread for WM6.1
good luck
Hello, Steven!
I'm very thankfull to you for WM 6.5.
I have trouble, while installing, to say correctly, on the beginning of installing on my a626. I did everything as in instructions, even for few times. When i press power and enter button, make double tip on the soft reset, I see blue screen, where said sth about Cannes and its version.
it write my FAT type(FAT16), i see very little blink of "Reading file", if not take off fingers from power and enter button, it resets to blue screen again, if take fingers off the buttons, PDA loads...I just don't know what to do.. please, help me!
ps: sorry for my english.
I think I've found an issue. This morning when I turned on the device I had a missed appointment, the notification dialog at the bottom of the screen showed up but it was blank and had the wrong time on it. Not sure if this is a 6.5 issue or an Outlook 2010 issue.

Oh dear..I will be sure to check on that. As far as Outlook, do you mean Outlook on desktop Windows or Pocket Outlook on Windows Mobile? The only thing is that office (outlook) 2010 is still in beta and hasn't been released officially to the general public yet, so I can't find any definite fixes. I still believe you, but the fact remains that Outlook 2010 is still in beta and the code for the finished product could always change.

I am using Pocket Outlook, the new 2010 beta. But it doesn't seem to be related to that, if I make a Notification Dialog popup from something like turning off the A626 it gives me a blank white box. Now I've soft reset the device and it seems to have gone away. I'll keep trying to figure out how to recreate it.

Well, school is out for the summer, so I can focus on putting out roms again. With this release, I made another WM6.5 rom to test a new compression type that I'm working with. With the original stock compression type (XPR), I didn't have enough space to fit all the goodness of WM6.5, so I switched to a new compression type (LZX) that lets me pack in more. I'm curious to know how the new compression type performs in comparison to the old one. Does anyone notice things are faster or slower?
Thanks to Makuu (for helping to get me started), Lenny, AstainHellbring (thank you for all the nightly help sessions), the creators of the tools I used to make this rom, and anyone else that I failed to mention in name who gave me the knowledge to complete this rom.

You also need to install winrar (found at http://www.win-rar.com/download.html).
Step 9: activate SD Loader using the following instructions {
}
I only added MS Office Mobile this time because the new MS Office Mobile 2010 had not been released yet. For my next release, I am not including MS Office Mobile due to the fact that you can download the new version free from Marketplace.
My work is free for everyone's use, but if you feel compelled to give a donation towards my work (I am a full-time college student working on this in what little spare time I have), my paypal e-mail is "[email protected]"

Some indication about free memory after 6.5 rom installation?
If something wrong, is possible to reinstall the official 6.1 rom?
Thanks

Nothing is wrong with the rom. I would just like to find out if people notice a performance impact (good or bad) with the new compression type (that is supposed to give you more storage space) that I'm trying out with this rom. Iif there was something very wrong with this rom, I would never release it to the public (ok, perhaps I jumped the gun with the 1st WM6.5 rom, but I did put out warnings and a bug-fix rom to remedy some issues with the 1st rom). And yes, it's possible to downgrade to WM6.1 (just a note, Asus never put out an official WM6.1 stock rom, so I had to make it). The latest stock rom is WM6.

Thank you so much for extraordinary job on rom ver. 2 !!!
I was intalled this on my ASUS 696 and it went smoothly without any problems.
In addition, it looks more faster as you mentioned beside rom ver. 1.
The current rom taking the sum of 29.53MB from a total of 53.35MB memory (what let us 23.82MB free at the program memory section).
Again you made a really holiness work due to the fact our mypals still relevant...

Installed this ROM today, and performance on my A696 is not so good...
First – after reboot it was stuck on Windows startup screen for 4-5 minutes. I thought the flashing process went wrong, but eventually it booted up.
I haven't tested it thoroughly yet, but the first things I noticed – reaction to any user event (tapping, scrolling, etc.) is MUCH slower than on the WM6.1 I'd had before. Haven't tested the application performance yet.
Also, when I tap on the battery indicator nothing happens.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that 1st boot time has increased with this rom. This is due to the new compression type. For the power icon, I just noticed your concern. Unfortunately, I don't have a fix for it right now. You can still view battery information by going into the settings.
If anyone knows how to flash a rom in a different language, please enlighten me. I have made an attempt at making an international rom (this time was German), but I can't get it to boot (I have an English version A626). I think the reason it won't boot is because I didn't configure the firmware right (the os is right though).
ROM working very good so far on my Asus A696. Looking forward to a German version but I could live with the US ROM. Thanks for your hard work.
You could also see battery level by using the ASUS Manager Icon on the Today Screen.
Good job
I would donate, for a Portuguese language rom. Thanks!
Problem with rom 2
Hi Steven,
I noticed in a one small problem of rom 2 after flashed on my asus 696.
The problem is that whenever i push the power button shortly and alternatively i'm trying to push it again to power on, it failes to succeed what leaves me to make an another resets for several times.
Can you resolve this issue during upcoming next rom?
Thanks for your good job!
Was a little slow and less responsive on the first startup, but after a soft reset it worked GREAT!
Once again beautiful work Steven, thank you very much!!!!!

Same problem.
And a second issue: my A696 freezes if I work with the BT module (handsfree, file transfer)
Thanks for the ROM.
When I was making the rom, I was looking for a way to delete the MS Bluetooth stack to free up some space (which is perfectly fine). I'm not sure, but I think the problem could be caused by me deleting some dll file packages related to bluetooth that are shared between the MS Bluetooth stack and the stock Broadcom stack (which is better).
Finally got around to flashing the new ROM. It appears to be working fine. I mostly use the A626 as a music player so I've had no issues so far. There is one thing that I'm not sure if its just my A626 or if anybody else has the problem but when I plug in the external AC adapter it doesn't seem to recognize the external power source... it will charge the battery it doesn't use the screen brightness and timeout settings, it will stay using the settings as if it is running on battery. Anybody else notice this?
*******
Actually after playing around for a couple hours I have an issue where once the device blanks the screen out I cant wake it up by pushing on the screen or the power button. If I connect power and disconnect it and reconnect it I still can't wake it. I have to reset the device to get it back to functional. I've tried reflashing and still have the same issue.
*******
I switched to a different mini usb charger and now it is recgonizing that the external power is hooked up... must have a weird usb charger. I've also gone back to using 6.5 1a to see if I have the same stand by/blank screen issues.
Bluetooth handsfree
I found some registry entries in a french site, with these settings we can enable the bluetooth handsfree service. I attach this file, maybe Steven will integrate in the next ROM (this service can be disabled in the bluetooth settings like any other service if you don't use). The application (which is from asus \windows\bthandsfreedevice.exe) has a little bug: can't do the synchronization of the phonebook and calllog from the phone (I tried with nokia 6233). If anybody know about a newer version of bthandsfreedevice.exe or know another (better) bthandsfree application, maybe we can make a working handsfree device from A696.

I noticed these today as well, and re-flashed but wasn't able to resolve the problem. Will continue testing the ROM.
While I don't need the Microsoft entries (since they pertain to the MS bluetooth stack), but I will definitely take a look at the widcomm entries. I won't be able to work on rom building until the weekend, but I will take some time to test it (to tell you all the truth, I didn't really test bluetooth as much as I should have with this release).

It seems that the device can't wake up only when goes in standby after applying the screen lock. Without locking, it can be powered on with the power button.
Downgrading to rom version 1
Hi steven,
After several times i tried to discover what's appear to make the battery totally empty (due the fact i couldn't start my 696 on every time i shut it down or just pushed shortly the "power on" button just to make it sleeping mode) i figured that something in the rom version 2 caused the problem.
I alreasy noticed (my last reply) that even the battery still ok, during trying to make the 696 go to sleeping mode it's refuse after that to power on and forced me to make couple of resets (because even after some resets the 696 still stuck without any responding).
Finally i downgraded the 696 to rom version 1.
It's been pretty hectic over the past few weeks with me trying to finish up my summer online class that I'm taking, getting ready for the fall semester of my sophmore year of college, and trying to get rom building done. But I did manage to put together an updated "back-to-school" rom in the process. For those of you waiting on international version roms with WM6.5(.3), I apologize. I haven't had much time for rom building lately. However, international roms are coming soon (I can promise you that).
Thanks to Makuu (for helping to get me started), Lenny, AstainHellbring (thank you for all the nightly help sessions), the creators of the tools I used to make this rom, and anyone else that I failed to mention in name who gave me the knowledge to complete this rom.

In order to flash the stock rom, you have to change two hex values in the IMG file. Starting at location 0x0C, there should be 2 hex values which read (in order) "09 04". YOu need to change those values to "36 D6". For those of you who think this is too advanced for you, I guess I should upload the WM6 stock rom when I get a chance.

Thanks! I was able to revert back to my WM6.0 ROM already, using USBLOADER. Its just I did it the wrong way on the first time.
The WM6.5 ROM is great, I think my screen became more sensitive with this ROM. I just needed to go back to WM6.0 because I am using my Asus A626 mainly for my work. WM6.5 in my opinion, is best when you are using your device as a Portable Mobile Device.

Bug report
Hi Steven,
This ROM is near perfect, Thanks for your work! One problem I noticed: In my A696 with these ROM I can't configure the messaging, if I select the new account the program goes directly to outlook mail, not to account configuration.
Can you release a cab fix or some registry entries for fixing the problem?
Thanks again,

Hi! Waiting for your final WM6.1 ROM.
Hello,
I really appreciate your work a lot, and I would like to upgrade the OS of my A696. However, do you have any Dutch versions of the 6.1 or 6.5 released?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT:
I have another question too: how can I backup my curent ROM, so that I can revert to it back if something goes wrong?

Any news? Anybody has the same problem, or only my pda is in this situation?
not sure about that one; anyway, I'm working on an updated rom, so I will check on that when I test it
Hey Steven I missed the last update. Do you plan to drop the next anytime soon or should I just flash to version 4?
As a matter of fact, expect 1 tonight (since I'm now done with a week's worth of quizzes and tests).
Hi, really great work! I will try it.
But few questions that is worried me. Please answer if you can.
1. First more important for me:
a. How much free RAM memory do you have in you device, when you just load your firmware without any startup programs (for example on my A696 with latest asus firmware free memory 32-35 MB).
b. How much free ROM is available for user? as I understood it is should be less comparing to default Asus firmware. And I have intension that is not correctly to compare it by image size
2. And another one: have it original Start button and desktop like WM6.0? (Can you please provide few screenshots) I mean non finger oriented interface that I saw in a new smartphones, it's not comfortable for me I hate this )))
3. And last question ASUSstatus utility Is present here? it is very nice utility for set CPU or usb mode.
Hope it's not to much questions, and not very hard.
And again big work thanks a lot.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Somebody have asked you about host usb. I think you are right it is used by BT. But this processor have another one if it is interesting for you, you can see it here 27895102.pdf (please search in google, because I'm not able to put external link here or try this int.xscale-freak.com/XSDoc/PXA27X/27895102.pdf) on the page 29. But I'm not sure that is exist the way to use it, even with hardware modification due that all processors pins are hidden from us. If believe to handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/MyPal696 only internal host usb will work, so addition of driver just will give a calm of soul for us that it is present )))
PS and sorry, hope my English is not to hard for understanding
I've successfully installed it and....
Hey dude that's really cool (on the first look)
I will ask on my questions myself (ASUS A696) after boot next results
1.
a. Free RAM 29-30 MB (I think it's enough)
b. Free ROM (inside storage) ~173mB (wow)
2. Interface is acceptable for me after changing few settings.
3. Yes ASUSstatus utility is present here
I'm happy, thanks.
Now I will try setup my favorite software I'll install nice virtual keyboard for three languages (or more MS still doesn't implemented it ), videoplayer ... etc
I'll continue my testing.
And one question:
Maybe you can suggest utility for backup state of pda. I've used earlier spb backup Is it nice to use with this firmware? did you try it& I'm asking because I have bad experience with default asus firmware, after few rollbacks diffirent applications always crashed.
thanks. thanks. thanks.....

SPB Backup is still usable with WM6.5, but you have to download the latest version (it can be a trial version) from the SPB site (and make sure you have you key handy; the setup program will ask for it to install the full version). I've been using SPB Backup with all of my roms with no problems (I just didn't install it on the last 2 flashes due to time constraints). As far as video players are concerned, the ever-popular "TCPMP" works quite well. For video mode, just don't choose gapi as the video mode; the A6x6 has a bad implementation of gapi due to it being a landscape device and gapi (by default) assumes the device is a portrait one. The gapi issue is something that only Asus can fix (well, I could probably do it if I had more time on my hands and had some firsthand knowledge of how Asus implemented gxdma.dll).
Speaking of gapi, does ANYONE know of a way to enable the virtual gamepad on pocketgnuboy with gapi enabled (since I am dealing with a landscape device; whenever I enable the virtual gamepad, it's there, but the area that the virtual gamepad uses is "blacked out")? If not, is there a way to keep the framerate from slowing down when disabling gapi on pocketgnuboy, OR is there another gameboy (color) emulator out there that has a virtual gamepad that you've tried and it ACTUALLY has a decent framerate (+ sound)??
Steve - I know you are busy with school and what not but any chance you will be dropping the new ROM anytime soon, otherwise I'll flash V4 and test it.
Hi guys,
I've finally managed to get Windows 10 back to my Lumia 530.. from "bare metal" (really, it looked death at some try-and-fail steps
It will be done in two steps.
First, we need to push it to the 10586.107
The second update we will deploy the "final" version of v1511 - 10586.1176 (the fixed issues betwenn 107 and 1176 are a list of 8pages paper )
WHAT YOU NEED:
- Windows Device Recovery Tool (can ressurect dead phones, when nothing else can connect to it.... )
- The included thor2.exe cmdline tool (find it in the install path of the Recovery Tool).
- The Stock Windows 8.1 (can be downloaded by the tool or by yourself at lumiafirmware com
- IUTOOL.exe (included in the Windows Driver Kit (WDK) or from here, the big Windows 10 Mobile Offline Thread) as well as the perfect prepared first packages:
- the "win10_mobile_offline_updater_v41.wim" provided on this page. YOU need only the files in THIS SUBFOLDER: "3rd Generation\43X-532"
- If you want to prepare further updates or a different phone, you'll need also (comes with IUTOOL.exe) GetDuLogs.exe (I HIGHLY RECOMMEND to run it with your fresh updated device connected to USB), It will rip the update log wich are nice but it also includes a package list, that were updated on your Phone. THIS IS IMPORTANT because these package names are the packages you will need for every device upgrade rollup..
HOW TO:
1st: I believe i took the GUI Recovery tool the first time i succeeded but at my second try it didn't work.. The whole success depends on a few megabytes of free space. So whatever caused this, MY LAST and sucessful try worked after i flashed the Stock FFU with the command line tool thor2.exe using the whole bunch of options:
thor2 -mode uefiflash -ffufile "your_Phones_Stock_Build_imageFile.ffu" -do_full_nvi_update -do_factory_reset -reboot
After the reboot, and you will only succeed by following: Leave the phone at the first Screen (The Welcome, languange selection), connect to USB, let windows install the driver and once connected (when using Windows 10) Remove the device from Devices And Printers otherwise IUTOOL.exe will put out an error and won't work.
now start the update by launching: iutool -V -p e:\folderName (Where All The CABs Are Inside).. You won't get any message on your phone, but IF it fails, IUTOOL will put out an Error - in all my tries within 5 minutes.. YOU NEED TO WAIT for reboot. The Lumia 530 will take around 30minutes until it reboots itself. It boots in the known maintenance mode, takes some time and will come up with Windows 10.0.586.107. Because we didn't went through the OOBE before, either only the Start Screen will be empty or in addition the App list will not show every app - as expected - Easy Fix: If you have the settings app, go to SYSTEM-INFO and launch a factory reset.. If not take the hardware forced way: Hold Volume down AND the power button until it vibrates, release ONLY the button, hold volume down a bit longer to get the phone recognized what you want. When it shows the "!" launch the factory reset by pushing in this row: Vol Up - Vol Down - Power - Volume down..
the keyboard wont work so if you want your backup to be forced while OOBE, you need to make your Wifi Open without password... There is a fix for this issue on the Main Thread for the Offline Update, but i just removed my (in my case) German Keyboard and the englich keyboard worked fine immediately after removing..
The Swiss keyboard was also good for me - but i didn't care a lot - will be fixed with the final Update...
THE OOBE WAY doesn't work any more, seems like Microsoft wasn't amused by this and closed this nice door i just found as my very last idea with this phone. The genius idea.. i felt so cool after that really worked.... Now the last step: don't forget to call "getdulogs -o e:\outputfile.cab" in the cab are the logs as well as the important package list..
The second update is easier, because there is not much you can do... You can find it with normal Update search but - trust me - in the best case it fails with 50 MB too less space... really hard So the difficult part this time is to identify and get your packages. I've searched my 6 disks and finally i'found my phone updates but unfortunately i must have overwritten my get.cmd for 1176 which was a download batch for the files.. ****.. but it's also hard to identify the correct package at Microsoft, i'm tired but here's the little gift, definetely the correct package, you'll find here (i cannot post links, too new ) catalog-update-microsoft-com and seach for "14003.1176". The 2500 MB folder is yours, look for " Windows Mobile 10 Production Bundle - OS 10.0.14003.1176 update for all mobile phone devices", Click "Download to see all package links and download the ones in the log files package list...
I got 168 files, should be more - even if more are not a problem - we don't have any space for maybe resolution packages for other devices. NO
If you have some scripting or programming knowlegde, there are some hints for it below.. Or Contact me if you need help.
Update is easy:
- Factory Reset AND DON'T CONNECT your phone to the Wifi - at no point
- After OOBE - Uninstall absolutely every thing that is able to, delete temp files - these little two things worked fine for me, key point here is NO CONNECTION TO NOWHERE BEFORE.. again, we are fighting for 50 MB, so if it was connected -> do the factory reset before... but do it also if it never was on, because there are few files from the previous update, that will lock us these 50 MB...
Update itself like before, IUTOOL.exe -V -p u:\cabFolder
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW... If you like ****, this time you can watch the update progress - IUTOOL.exe forces the normal windows update so it will show progress..
reboot to maintenance mode - will all work fine BUT THE FIRST REBOOT - keep cool, and enjoy the blue flashing Disco Screen you will get - you can try to reboot, but it didn't help on all my 2 deployments. what it needs (was a surprise for me, and it helped twice) is a simple factory reset.. like i wrote in the previous update. This time you will have to use the hardware way i mentioned.. Thats all.. One little issue, i couldn't fix yet, but i don't care.. MSN News App, And the Weather App are only links to the store and for whatever reason the store thinks it is already installed, Take Foreca Weather... Everything else works fine.. Keyboard as well with native german on my side
Hopefully i mentioned it detailed enough... worked TWO times for me now.. 14393 update needs too much space, don't even think about it
I'm currently slowly reading into Deploying and developing customized windows mobile images, not that i wan't to run it on my 530 but maybe i'll find somehing...
Greetings, Stephan.. Below some hints for the downloads, if you want to script it...
THE SECOND UPDATE is based on the package list i've ripped. With this and the version number (this is tricky, because the internal Build will not stay at 10586, so you will find the update by searching for "Windows Mobile 1176" or sth near.. look for a Folder size of ~2500 and the update rollup .1176 - i'm not really sure - it was some near 14003.1176 (The Build number MUST BE LOWER than 14393. You'll either some creative knowledge like programming or a lot of patience and motivation to find all your 127 packages and download it manually.. i copied the the whole filename's list and the prefix to have a download link and then i wrote a little C# to compare my needed package List with the whole build list from microsoft.. i added also a "wget -c ". It's even more complicated... 2 different "base" links (i just took both links - only the correct one will work. And finally - the last complication is - there are downloads "tagged" with a "cbs" as well as with "cbsu" in the filename FOR MOST PACKAGES, i've not tried to find what it means - but however i decided to take the CBS because their filesize was realisic, cbsu are way too small, may be these are one fixes from last update, and not the whole rollup - what we need....
..the keyboard wont work so if you want your backup to be forced while OOBE, you need to make your Wifi Open without password...

Forget that... you cannot apply your backup at this time, even with internet connected... The hard point would be to login with Microsoft
can you post screenshots?
I followed that whole guide but I didn't succeed. It was then that I deleted the .cab files from languages that I'm not going to use and I remade the whole process, being transferred 31 files. I crossed my fingers and received the full storage message but the update followed and to my surprise the phone restarted and updated.
Someone to helpme with efiesp.bin partition?
Hello,
im trying to understand ur method but im not that into microsoft stuffs so, what do u mean with:
" now start the update by launching: iutool -V -p e:\folderName (Where All The CABs Are Inside) ? "
I get it done with more than 1Gb of free storage !
so I start with your steps u provided above and I got lost honestly.
-I have lumia 530 Dual SIM (1019) previous build was 8.1 I don't recall OS version but it was the latest, so yeah I searched for more information and I found this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-10-mobile/guide-win10-mobile-offline-update-t3527340/ of this glorious man @hikari_calyx
-I tired to intall W10 even the method says that not supported for 4gb devices, and it was really a fail because following his steps ended up with fail to update due to low storage, then I tried to delete anything I could, but again it fails for just 140mb or so... an idea pops up in my head which updating after a hard reset so the OEM apps won't get installed, and
here are the steps
1- go to the link provided for @hikari_calyx and follow the steps (make sure to download the .cab files) until it fails to update.
2- perform a hard reset to your phone (power off, press vol - and power button together after the vibrate release ur finger from power button and keep pressing vol - then in order : vol - vol + power button vol - )
and don't pass the language selection screen just keep it there.
3- Now go and update it like you just did before hard reset, it will take a lot of time just plug it to a power source and keep it cold, maybe more than 1 hour.
4-hurry it boot up you might face a problem in "Almost done.." screen, so the solution is : lock the screen and turn it on again, once u slide the lock screen up and before the app reloads keep pressing the "win" button it will open "one handed mode" then bring down the notification center and press anything (maybe win button I don't recall) until it goes to home screen (not 100% sure what I have done it was so random lol)
Congratulations u have W10 with a lot of storage.
