Asus Mypal A6x6 WM6.5 rom version 4 (8-30-10) - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

It's been pretty hectic over the past few weeks with me trying to finish up my summer online class that I'm taking, getting ready for the fall semester of my sophmore year of college, and trying to get rom building done. But I did manage to put together an updated "back-to-school" rom in the process. For those of you waiting on international version roms with WM6.5(.3), I apologize. I haven't had much time for rom building lately. However, international roms are coming soon (I can promise you that).
Thanks to Makuu (for helping to get me started), Lenny, AstainHellbring (thank you for all the nightly help sessions), the creators of the tools I used to make this rom, and anyone else that I failed to mention in name who gave me the knowledge to complete this rom.
Asus Mypal A6x6 WM6.5 version 4
Windows CE version 5.2.21911 (Build 21911.5.0.94)
This was tested on an Asus Mypal A626 (and works). It should work with the A686/A696, but the other models were not tested. Any other models NOT mentioned above WILL NOT WORK.

At this time, this will be the only download link. Mirrors will be created in the future (after I give permission).
Instructions (I have included a txt file with same instructions for offline convenience)
Before you do anything, make sure you have at least a 256mb SD card and a card reader (you can get one at a place like Radio Shack or Office Depot). You also need to install winrar (found at http://www.win-rar.com/download.html). Your SD card must be formatted with the FAT16 file system.
To format your SD Card with the FAT16 file system
Step 1: To do this insert the SD Card into the reader and go to "My Computer".
Step 1a: BACKUP YOUR FILES before you start!!
Step 2: Right-click the drive letter of the SD Card reader (differs for each computer, probably either E:\ or F:\ or G:\) and click "Format".
Step 2a: Don't worry about any of the options except for file system, choose "FAT"
Step 3: Click "Start" and wait until it is done
Step 1: Get (OS) rom image
Step 2: Extract files to any folder on hard drive using Winrar
Step 3: Go to the folder where you extracted the files in the RAR archive
Step 4: Make sure that the filename is "CANNES_A_WM6.img"
Step 4a: if the img file it's not exactly "CANNES_A_WM6.img", rename it to that
Step 5: Format the SD card if you haven't already done so using the instructions above
Step 6: Copy the img file to the SD card, see step 6a
Step 6a: Make sure that the img file is the ONLY file on the SD card after formatting
Step 7: Take SD Card out of SD Card reader and put it in the a6x6
Step 8: Make sure that the a6x6 is plugged in via ac adapter before doing the next few steps
Step 9: activate SD Loader using the following instructions {
Step 9a: Hold down the power button and enter button (that's the button in the center of the d-pad)
Step 9b: Double tap the soft reset button while holding the other 2 buttons
Step 9c: After double tapping the soft reset button, keep the other 2 buttons held until a blue screen comes up that says something like Asus Cannes flashing utility
Step 9d: Wait until the process is finished (it's near the end when it says "writing private")
}
Step 10: At this point, your a6x6 should reboot on its own
Step 11: enjoy your updated rom
If you have any questions, feel free to just post or PM me.
As I release new roms, if you have a support question, please give me the rom version so I know what rom you are working with. You can get the rom version from the filename of the rom pack.
Example: Asus_A626_WM614_1
A626 = device (most often it will be A626, will rarely be different), WM614 = os version, 1 = release #

What happens when you try to downgrade?
I haven't tried this release yet, but will after I charge up my device!

In order to flash the stock rom, you have to change two hex values in the IMG file. Starting at location 0x0C, there should be 2 hex values which read (in order) "09 04". YOu need to change those values to "36 D6". For those of you who think this is too advanced for you, I guess I should upload the WM6 stock rom when I get a chance.

Thanks! I was able to revert back to my WM6.0 ROM already, using USBLOADER. Its just I did it the wrong way on the first time.
The WM6.5 ROM is great, I think my screen became more sensitive with this ROM. I just needed to go back to WM6.0 because I am using my Asus A626 mainly for my work. WM6.5 in my opinion, is best when you are using your device as a Portable Mobile Device.

Well, you could always try my WM6.1 final mix rom (which is long overdue). I will try to upload that sometime either today or tomorrow.

Bug report
Hi Steven,
This ROM is near perfect, Thanks for your work! One problem I noticed: In my A696 with these ROM I can't configure the messaging, if I select the new account the program goes directly to outlook mail, not to account configuration.
Can you release a cab fix or some registry entries for fixing the problem?
Thanks again,

Hi! Waiting for your final WM6.1 ROM.

Hello,
I really appreciate your work a lot, and I would like to upgrade the OS of my A696. However, do you have any Dutch versions of the 6.1 or 6.5 released?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT:
I have another question too: how can I backup my curent ROM, so that I can revert to it back if something goes wrong?

Any news? Anybody has the same problem, or only my pda is in this situation?

not sure about that one; anyway, I'm working on an updated rom, so I will check on that when I test it

Hey Steven I missed the last update. Do you plan to drop the next anytime soon or should I just flash to version 4?

As a matter of fact, expect 1 tonight (since I'm now done with a week's worth of quizzes and tests).

Hi, really great work! I will try it.
But few questions that is worried me. Please answer if you can.
1. First more important for me:
a. How much free RAM memory do you have in you device, when you just load your firmware without any startup programs (for example on my A696 with latest asus firmware free memory 32-35 MB).
b. How much free ROM is available for user? as I understood it is should be less comparing to default Asus firmware. And I have intension that is not correctly to compare it by image size
2. And another one: have it original Start button and desktop like WM6.0? (Can you please provide few screenshots) I mean non finger oriented interface that I saw in a new smartphones, it's not comfortable for me I hate this )))
3. And last question ASUSstatus utility Is present here? it is very nice utility for set CPU or usb mode.
Hope it's not to much questions, and not very hard.
And again big work thanks a lot.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Somebody have asked you about host usb. I think you are right it is used by BT. But this processor have another one if it is interesting for you, you can see it here 27895102.pdf (please search in google, because I'm not able to put external link here or try this int.xscale-freak.com/XSDoc/PXA27X/27895102.pdf) on the page 29. But I'm not sure that is exist the way to use it, even with hardware modification due that all processors pins are hidden from us. If believe to handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/MyPal696 only internal host usb will work, so addition of driver just will give a calm of soul for us that it is present )))
PS and sorry, hope my English is not to hard for understanding

I've successfully installed it and....
Hey dude that's really cool (on the first look)
I will ask on my questions myself (ASUS A696) after boot next results
1.
a. Free RAM 29-30 MB (I think it's enough)
b. Free ROM (inside storage) ~173mB (wow)
2. Interface is acceptable for me after changing few settings.
3. Yes ASUSstatus utility is present here
I'm happy, thanks.
Now I will try setup my favorite software I'll install nice virtual keyboard for three languages (or more MS still doesn't implemented it ), videoplayer ... etc
I'll continue my testing.
And one question:
Maybe you can suggest utility for backup state of pda. I've used earlier spb backup Is it nice to use with this firmware? did you try it& I'm asking because I have bad experience with default asus firmware, after few rollbacks diffirent applications always crashed.
thanks. thanks. thanks.....

SPB Backup is still usable with WM6.5, but you have to download the latest version (it can be a trial version) from the SPB site (and make sure you have you key handy; the setup program will ask for it to install the full version). I've been using SPB Backup with all of my roms with no problems (I just didn't install it on the last 2 flashes due to time constraints). As far as video players are concerned, the ever-popular "TCPMP" works quite well. For video mode, just don't choose gapi as the video mode; the A6x6 has a bad implementation of gapi due to it being a landscape device and gapi (by default) assumes the device is a portrait one. The gapi issue is something that only Asus can fix (well, I could probably do it if I had more time on my hands and had some firsthand knowledge of how Asus implemented gxdma.dll).

Speaking of gapi, does ANYONE know of a way to enable the virtual gamepad on pocketgnuboy with gapi enabled (since I am dealing with a landscape device; whenever I enable the virtual gamepad, it's there, but the area that the virtual gamepad uses is "blacked out")? If not, is there a way to keep the framerate from slowing down when disabling gapi on pocketgnuboy, OR is there another gameboy (color) emulator out there that has a virtual gamepad that you've tried and it ACTUALLY has a decent framerate (+ sound)??

Steve - I know you are busy with school and what not but any chance you will be dropping the new ROM anytime soon, otherwise I'll flash V4 and test it.

Need Rom Asus P525

Hi all , I 've bought a ppc Asus P525 chinese ROm . Now I want to change the WWE Rom . ANyone have this Rom plwase PM me bye Yahoo messenger or this forum , thanks . Y!M : [email protected]
Any luck?
Did anyone contacted you?
I am looking for such a ROM myself.
Anyboby have it ? Please send it to me
i wrote so big post about my experiens with P525 and at last pressed on smile and opened new page deleted all i wrote
have no mood to write it again. I will tell shortly:
I also have P525 chinese version (TW CHT version)
1) currently, i don't know how to grab whole ROM from P525.
itsutils can grab whole ROM excluding bootloader. Grabber like Grab_it grabs only garbage and thus completely useless. ROM type is DOC (TrueFFS) which according what i found is hard to grab. If anyone knows how to grab ROM fully - tell me how.
2) Flashing only OS rom and without checksum is at first unknown procedure and at second can make from your P525 just expensive brick. Size of different language ROMs of P525 varies greately. Also, some P525 ROMS have extended ROM while others no. Taiwanese version has 3MB extended rom where KKBOX installer resides. It's easy to unhide it and remove KKBOX to free space for some other apps. HK version has no KKBOX, so i don't know is extended ROM present there or not. TW model has 61.75 of user storage space. IS there any HK users? how much user storage space in HK version? it can answer question: is there extended ROM in HK version or not. English version has 74MB (!!!) of free storage space and has no extended ROM. So, flashing different language OS (if to know how to flash) will probably lead device to non-responsible state.
3) there is bootloader flasher. you can enter it by holding down "record" button and press reset. But this flasher doesn't accept neither standard ROM update from ASUS site nor decrypted and renamed ROM. For me it tells that language is different. Ridiculous.. May be it will accept english ROM? Also, quick looking in hex editor i can see that bootloader can accept different file names and some strings relative to serial mode (console). Seems bootloader can be switched to different modes, but i don't know how to do this. Currently, in flasher mode P525 not recognized by desktop computer. even no any sound or other reaction telling that something pluggen into USB. Would be good to find more info about bootloader of ASUS P525.
Summary of key combination while pressing reset button (or turn on)
1) Hold jostick up -> enter to hard reset menu
2) Hold down record button (it's near camera button) -> enter to bootloader's flasher.
Meantime i mage english transformation installer for P525. After that P525 becomes fully english, till next hard reset of course. It eats user storage space of course, but at least my P525 is fully english!
Well, i'm not sure what is better: have CHT version + english transformation or ENG + chinese font and input because i need to read and write both languages. Actually, my chinese is very bad (only beginning) i defnately need english interface. What i like most in english ROM is 74MB of user storage space!!
May be some guru will have this wonderful device (much better than any available HTC device now) and will share some hacks
by the way, a week ago, ASUS had new update for HK and TW versions. After couple of days it has been removed. Anyone knows why?
I compared files: changes in couple of BT files, many updated files in Voice commander. That's all if i recall right. I didn't try to flash it yet.
ok. i programmed english ROM to my P525! works great!
now Storage space is 74MB! (61MB was with chinese version)
i'm continuing my monolog. Seems everybody with P525 only waiting for info..
after digging in bootloader code i found:
- found procedure to calculate checksum. this allowed me to flash english ROM dumped from english P525.
- Bootloader has several modes.
- key combinations for flashing different part of ROM. You need keep these buttons while pressing "reset" button (or while turning on):
1) Photo - update ROMGalaxy.nb0 (ROM without bootloader)
2) Record - update BootGalaxy.nb0 (only bootloader)
3) Photo+Record - update Galaxy.nb0 (whole ROM)
4) Photo+Record+Joistick_Action - USB Console mode
There is some check for Jostick_UP mode. I'm not sure if it can switch to another update mode or it's just for hardreset because Jostick_Up used for HR as well. ARM assembler for me is new. I used to read x86 assembler
Also, bootloader can accept standard ROM update from ASUS site - Galaxy.cap, but i didn't find the way of activate such mode. Probably it may be activated only by update application by calling this mode through IOCTRL function.
Another unclear thing is USB Console mode. I can connect to phone by mtty as to USB COM (something like \\USB_blah_blah - i don't remember exact name), but any attempt to type something doesn't produce any echo to screen. Either bootloader can not echoing or requires to type some authorisation command to unlock console mode. Or may be this mode support only direct file transfer without any commandline interface..
Bad thing is that nobody except me explore P525
Good thing about P525 ROM is that understandable by imgfs tools! No extra work required to dump all files and modules. and with no error! I guess, imgfs tools can compile new ROM also without errors. Opened door to ROM kitchen as for himalaya in the past?
Actually, i would like to add/modify/remove some components (like T9 languages). Since, i can flash old ROM anytime if cooked ROM will not work, why don't try.. just need to find some spare time and enough courage
Well mate, all this sound very good.
I am waiting to have some money and get one of those p525.
sorg. Great work!!
I also had lots of fun with the Flash process. Just found out that if I use the AC adaptor, the bootloader will complain "checksum error" while using the USB cable will not. I believe this is due to the design of the USB port (remember that the cable's 2nd,3nd legs are shorted)
I had successfully flashed the ENG ROM. However, now I would like to get the T9 CHT input back. I had tried to use the Asus "official" rom to flash the CHT version back (HK ver.) but the device keep complaining the "region" is not correct (I had already set the language ID to 0 , I believe this "error" should be caused by the extended ROM, but will try later when I got the CHT ROM )
Is there any tricks I had to do to modify the original galaxy.cap ROM image so that I could flash it though the boot loader instead of the ASUS official flash tools? or could you kindly upload the HK-CHT .nb0 ROM?
Deeply apprciate your help!
Cheers!
Hum, maybe using imgfs to dump the T9 input module out should be fine for us, sorg. (coz I need both ENG and CHT but need the ENG interface.... )
haha, mind to share how to manage the official ROM to .nb0 ROM? so that I could cook the ROM as well. HUM, getting the answering machine from GSMART-i and background-mixer than cook them into P525 should be very delicious. wahahaha
i gave you CHT ROM for bootloader flasher in PM.
Currently, i'm in final stage of my cooked ROM. It's based on english v3.29. I added chinese font/nls/input(T9, HW and SIP) and some other useful utilities. Also, since i'm russian i added russian input as well.
I think i will finish testing in couple of days.
Dear sorg,
Thanks a million for your guidience. I am browsing online materials and want to try to cook my own ROM. I had a friend who have a g-smart i WM phone. The phone comes with a s/w answering machine and a very good "background mixer" (which you can pretend you are in a busy environment during telephone call). Therefore, I would like to dump his ROM and check to see if I could use fsimg tool to get these 2 program out. can you show me a road to useful information?
(P.S. I had suspected that the ASUS autorun.exe block the flash process.... but just can't find where the "regional setting" is located in..... thanks for your bright help! YOU ARE NOW ANNOUNCED THE P525 GURU!!! )
Cheers! Cheers! Cheers!
can you extract files and registry related to cheating utility from GSMART's ROM (or give me link to such ROM and name of exe file)?
i will try to put it into ROM.
Structure of P525 ROM is relatively easy. To decrypt ROM you have to XOR whole galaxy.cap file by mask A87BC0DF. Then you may use imgfs_tools utilities
But to flash ROM back you have to calculate checksumm of new ROM. I don't want publush function right now because it's still dangerous. not much known yet about P525 ROM. For example, flashing with wrong language and fail will lock your device to that language which probably you don't know. And if device will not able to finich boot to OS you will not able to use language unlock utility. I also found problem to flash bigger ROM update through bootloder's flasher. it always fail. Only way to update to bigger ROM is to use official chinese update galaxy.cap and only after that use hand-made ROM with the same or smaller size. Once you programmed smaller size, you will not able to program bigger one. Again have to use chinese official update.
I don't know why it happens. So, it's not right time to spread tools. When most things will be known then it will be safe to release.
ah, didn't see question about ROM dumping.
I thing, it's better to find update first.
Dumping works not on all phones. You may try to use itsutils. There is utility pdocread.exe which can dump TrueFFS DOC.
Hi sorg,
I had copied the pdocread.exe to the sd-card and run it on my friend's g-smart-i. It caused his phone to freeze..... I re-tried for a few time and now he refused to borrow it to me to continue the experiment... >_< (I should not do the experiment in front of him, and should poke the reset button secretly, hahaha) Well, I will continue to try to get the ROM, once I had successfully dump it out, will let you know at once!
What I intended to do is to use an ENG rom, use a 3rd party CHINESE engine (which I can turn off when not needed) and have the T9 input always resident in memory...... I had tried to copy all T9*.* to the /windows directory and imported the T9IME registry entry from CHT ROM to ENG ROM. It doesn't work at all, the result is that I am unable to change T9's mode (e.g. only able to input 123, can't even change to input ENG / T9 ENG). Waiting for your advice!
Cheers!
pdocread should be run on Desktop computer while PDA connected through activesync. Also you should enable RAPI on PDA (look for enable_rapi.cab on this forum).
Actually, i revised my archive or ROMs and found one version from GSmart. So, i think, no need frighten your friend anymore
unfortunately, i couldn't make neither AnswerMachine nor PhoneRec/Environment Cheater to work. Actually, all these three apps are pretending to work on P525. I can listen example of environment cheater in settings, AnswerMachine picks the phone in right time, PhoneRec opens dialog where progess of recording should be visible, but neither playback to phoneline nor record from there are workining There is topic about porting these apps on buzzdev board but so far no any positive results. Probably, gigabyte has some specific hardware allowing to interat with phone line, but all other Phones has no such ability
We are lucky that at least P525 allows record phone conversation (through any available recording software)! Most HTC devices have no even such feature!
please follow to this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279777
there is discussion about P525 ROM(s) with modified version i published.
any questions to me please ask in that topic.

Asus Mypal A6x6 WM6.1 rom version 2 (11-12-09)

It's been a while since I put out a new rom, but I figured I should be able to at least give you all something while I continue to sort out build problems with WM6.5. Due to conditions with college, I can't release a stable WM6.5 rom until around Thanksgiving.
Thanks to Makuu (especially), Lenny, AstainHellbring, the creators of the tools I used to make this rom, and anyone else that I failed to mention in name who gave me the knowledge to complete this rom.
Asus Mypal A6x6 WM6.1 version 2
Windows CE version 5.2.21054 (Build 21054.1.6.7)
This was tested on an Asus Mypal A626 (and works). It should work with the A686/A696, but the other models were not tested. Any other models not metioned above WILL NOT WORK.

I will clean this rom up a little (it's good, but it could be better) and try to get something out in the next few days. I am also testing a new download service, so I would also like some feedback comparing this one to the old one.
My work is free for everyone's use, but if you feel compelled to give a donation towards my work (I am a full-time college student working on this in what little spare time I have), my paypal e-mail is "[email protected]"
thanks Steven
I test this in my A696 and i tell why
see you later

I can't download
Hi, sorry to bother you, but maybe you can put it somewhere else? I cannot download, it says that the offer is not available in my country...
Steve - can you upload to a different file sharing site... this one i can't download from without paying or entering in some peronsal info. Maybe you can start a torrent that way we can all seed it to help get it out to people without too much trouble.
I'll test out this ROM then. Hope you havent given up on 6.5.
You can download it here.
Edit : Link removed.

Steven855, can you explain how and with wich tools you work ? Or can you release a kitchen to help us to make translated rom (It's for the french one)
Folg : Oups ! I removed the link.
No pb I think he want to make some money, we can download freely and he is paid for his work.
You don't HAVE to put in your REAL information to get to the download. You can also keep refreshing the offers until you can find one that you can skip.
It has just been brought to my attention that Windows Marketplace 2.0 has just been released. Everything should still work (and get updated) with no problem.
Well I have tried but have been unsuccessful at getting the download by skipping or entering bogus information into the download site. I spent at least 30 mins messing around with it and have spent 29 more mins than I should have. I'd love to help test the new rom but I'd rather spend those 30 mins testing the rom than trying to get some stupid download site to work.
Steve if you want money I'll send you some
I said way back when that I'm making a donation to the 6.5 or 6.5.1 rom
creator when it is released.
I promise that if enough people tell me they hate the new download site (I did say I was testing a new download source and I wanted feedback, thanks), I will move it to a new server.
I didn't mean to be too negative... wasn't having the best day at work. I finally got it to download, hint to others when the lightbox popup is up keep an eye on the title across the top of it, if you skip enough ads it will eventually change to a continue here link and allow you to download.
Steve - keep up the good work! I'll flash tomorrow and report back with my test results.
hi, it's me again. damn, but i live in a Russia and can't download from this share. Steven, would you be so kind to download it to another site? Maybe rapidshare or something like that? You could pass an archive and give pass only in private messages or sumthin' like that...

that should not make a difference (the download service said you can still download the file if you get the "offer not available in your country" error), you might need to keep refreshing (or skipping) until you get it

The 'offer not available' is presented in a kind of popup but without a skip option (only a 'X').
The facebook page is a full page thing, no skip button either.
I have tried several times at different times of the day, I always end up on that face-book login page (I find that strange I would expect it to jump back)
I'll try a few more times.

well, i have tried the new rom, but (I think) I've got some problems with step 6. While holding enter and power button I saw a blue screen constanly appearing and dissapearing. Asus Mypal A6x6 WM6.5 rom version 1a (4-4-10)

I wasn't expecting to do this, but I had a 2 hour delay at my college due to snowy weather, so I decided to take the time to upload my 1st official WM6.5 rom for the Asus A6x6 early. Keep in mind that this rom is far from perfect and the fancy new WM6.5 today screen is not working (looks like the today screen from WM6/6.1).
Thanks to Makuu (for helping to get me started), Lenny, AstainHellbring (thank you for all the nightly help sessions), the creators of the tools I used to make this rom, and anyone else that I failed to mention in name who gave me the knowledge to complete this rom.

Step 9: activate SD Loader using the following instructions {
}
Update: Ok, I put out a bug fix rom with a fix for the today screen. I am still trying to find a fix for the sound and notifications control panel applet. The old rom (version 1) is deprecated and is not available for download any more. Use version 1a instead.
ASUS A696 User
Hi, Thanks for the release and good work. Since this is only the beginning (I hope), I begin to inform the performance firmware on my PDA (ASUS A696).
1 - Bluetooth - does not work (does not receive or send files)
- In the settings instead of the icon is a black square.
2 - Today - of all the elements shown only date and time, and only in the old form (as in the previous OS). I wish that Today was like other communicators.
3 - Start - which happened to all the sounds from the "Sounds and Notifications"?
4 - Software & others - as the 696 series have more memory, you can not throw out the program and plug-ins.
Waiting for a new version
Sorry for my English? i'm from Ukraine).

A few comments on your post:
1. I will check on the bluetooth situation. When I tested bluetooth, I didn't quite test file exchange enough.
2. I am working on a remedy/fix for the today screeen. However, I have no idea how long it will take for me to get it working.
3. This is just a matter of updating a few files. I used an older (and verifiably working) package to give non-phone support.
4. I am aware that the A696 and the later version of the A626 carry more flash rom space than the older version of the A626 and the A686. However, no matter what device I make roms for, there is a finite amount of space to fit everything into. As operating systems and programs progress, they get bigger and bigger. If everything keeps growing in file size, there is less space to fit more items, so I must remove some files/programs to keep within that finite limit of storage space. Where do all the files that I put into the rom go? Well, if you take a look at your storage memory, you will see that the total storage memory available is less than the standard 256 rom size.
I've downloaded and successfully flashed. Working good so far. I'm just installing some programs that I normally use and haven't run into an issue yet. It will be nice to have a working home screen but for now it isn't that big of a deal. I don't use bluetooth often so I can't comment on that yet. Wifi working, my music plays with S2P, I used windows market place to install netflix and office.
Keep up the good work!
Good job, but there are many failures to complete.
1) Today
2) Pictograms from former versions
3) "Sounds and Notifications"
4) Black pictogram Bluetooth in menu
5) When I close program - PDA show me Today(but must show menu)
6) Where is Oficce?
7) The pictograms not move in Start menu(only "Move to top")
Can you change your previous OS(WM6.1 rom version 2) context menu, pop-up menu and other for new from this OS?
P.S.: Sorry if you don't understand me I used translator...
Do you have french rom...?
Thank you.
just tested this build together with your WM6.1 release.
first impression - looks nice
even though seems slower on A696 - but this could be just because it's not tailored fully.
1) didn't test bluetooth much but seems to work fine with sending/recieving. I'd even say it's faster than on WM6.1 v2 release;
2) "Sounds and Notifications" problem with Events from previous v2 WM6.1 build;
3) under "System - Bluetooth" sometimes on BT icon there's black square - didn't notice when it happens though;
4) closing program throws you into Today screen insted of previous step;
5) same problem with Task Manager as I've said in previous thread for WM6.1
good luck
Hello, Steven!
I'm very thankfull to you for WM 6.5.
I have trouble, while installing, to say correctly, on the beginning of installing on my a626. I did everything as in instructions, even for few times. When i press power and enter button, make double tip on the soft reset, I see blue screen, where said sth about Cannes and its version.
it write my FAT type(FAT16), i see very little blink of "Reading file", if not take off fingers from power and enter button, it resets to blue screen again, if take fingers off the buttons, PDA loads...I just don't know what to do.. please, help me!
ps: sorry for my english.
I think I've found an issue. This morning when I turned on the device I had a missed appointment, the notification dialog at the bottom of the screen showed up but it was blank and had the wrong time on it. Not sure if this is a 6.5 issue or an Outlook 2010 issue.

Oh dear..I will be sure to check on that. As far as Outlook, do you mean Outlook on desktop Windows or Pocket Outlook on Windows Mobile? The only thing is that office (outlook) 2010 is still in beta and hasn't been released officially to the general public yet, so I can't find any definite fixes. I still believe you, but the fact remains that Outlook 2010 is still in beta and the code for the finished product could always change.

PS: Steven thank you for the ROM!

I am using Pocket Outlook, the new 2010 beta. But it doesn't seem to be related to that, if I make a Notification Dialog popup from something like turning off the A626 it gives me a blank white box. Now I've soft reset the device and it seems to have gone away. I'll keep trying to figure out how to recreate it.
First of all, thank you Steven855 for your job

Asus Mypal A6x6 WM6.5 rom version 2 (5-19-10)

Well, school is out for the summer, so I can focus on putting out roms again. With this release, I made another WM6.5 rom to test a new compression type that I'm working with. With the original stock compression type (XPR), I didn't have enough space to fit all the goodness of WM6.5, so I switched to a new compression type (LZX) that lets me pack in more. I'm curious to know how the new compression type performs in comparison to the old one. Does anyone notice things are faster or slower?
Thanks to Makuu (for helping to get me started), Lenny, AstainHellbring (thank you for all the nightly help sessions), the creators of the tools I used to make this rom, and anyone else that I failed to mention in name who gave me the knowledge to complete this rom.

Nothing is wrong with the rom. I would just like to find out if people notice a performance impact (good or bad) with the new compression type (that is supposed to give you more storage space) that I'm trying out with this rom. Iif there was something very wrong with this rom, I would never release it to the public (ok, perhaps I jumped the gun with the 1st WM6.5 rom, but I did put out warnings and a bug-fix rom to remedy some issues with the 1st rom). And yes, it's possible to downgrade to WM6.1 (just a note, Asus never put out an official WM6.1 stock rom, so I had to make it). The latest stock rom is WM6.

Thank you so much for extraordinary job on rom ver. 2 !!!
I was intalled this on my ASUS 696 and it went smoothly without any problems.
In addition, it looks more faster as you mentioned beside rom ver. 1.
The current rom taking the sum of 29.53MB from a total of 53.35MB memory (what let us 23.82MB free at the program memory section).
Again you made a really holiness work due to the fact our mypals still relevant...

Installed this ROM today, and performance on my A696 is not so good...
First – after reboot it was stuck on Windows startup screen for 4-5 minutes. I thought the flashing process went wrong, but eventually it booted up.
I haven't tested it thoroughly yet, but the first things I noticed – reaction to any user event (tapping, scrolling, etc.) is MUCH slower than on the WM6.1 I'd had before. Haven't tested the application performance yet.
Also, when I tap on the battery indicator nothing happens.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that 1st boot time has increased with this rom. This is due to the new compression type. For the power icon, I just noticed your concern. Unfortunately, I don't have a fix for it right now. You can still view battery information by going into the settings.
If anyone knows how to flash a rom in a different language, please enlighten me. I have made an attempt at making an international rom (this time was German), but I can't get it to boot (I have an English version A626). I think the reason it won't boot is because I didn't configure the firmware right (the os is right though).
ROM working very good so far on my Asus A696. Looking forward to a German version but I could live with the US ROM. Thanks for your hard work.
You could also see battery level by using the ASUS Manager Icon on the Today Screen.
Good job
I would donate, for a Portuguese language rom. Thanks!
Problem with rom 2
Hi Steven,
I noticed in a one small problem of rom 2 after flashed on my asus 696.
The problem is that whenever i push the power button shortly and alternatively i'm trying to push it again to power on, it failes to succeed what leaves me to make an another resets for several times.
Can you resolve this issue during upcoming next rom?
Thanks for your good job!
Was a little slow and less responsive on the first startup, but after a soft reset it worked GREAT!
Once again beautiful work Steven, thank you very much!!!!!

Same problem.
And a second issue: my A696 freezes if I work with the BT module (handsfree, file transfer)
Thanks for the ROM.
When I was making the rom, I was looking for a way to delete the MS Bluetooth stack to free up some space (which is perfectly fine). I'm not sure, but I think the problem could be caused by me deleting some dll file packages related to bluetooth that are shared between the MS Bluetooth stack and the stock Broadcom stack (which is better).
Finally got around to flashing the new ROM. It appears to be working fine. I mostly use the A626 as a music player so I've had no issues so far. There is one thing that I'm not sure if its just my A626 or if anybody else has the problem but when I plug in the external AC adapter it doesn't seem to recognize the external power source... it will charge the battery it doesn't use the screen brightness and timeout settings, it will stay using the settings as if it is running on battery. Anybody else notice this?
*******
Actually after playing around for a couple hours I have an issue where once the device blanks the screen out I cant wake it up by pushing on the screen or the power button. If I connect power and disconnect it and reconnect it I still can't wake it. I have to reset the device to get it back to functional. I've tried reflashing and still have the same issue.
*******
I switched to a different mini usb charger and now it is recgonizing that the external power is hooked up... must have a weird usb charger. I've also gone back to using 6.5 1a to see if I have the same stand by/blank screen issues.
Bluetooth handsfree
I found some registry entries in a french site, with these settings we can enable the bluetooth handsfree service. I attach this file, maybe Steven will integrate in the next ROM (this service can be disabled in the bluetooth settings like any other service if you don't use). The application (which is from asus \windows\bthandsfreedevice.exe) has a little bug: can't do the synchronization of the phonebook and calllog from the phone (I tried with nokia 6233). If anybody know about a newer version of bthandsfreedevice.exe or know another (better) bthandsfree application, maybe we can make a working handsfree device from A696.

I noticed these today as well, and re-flashed but wasn't able to resolve the problem. Will continue testing the ROM.
While I don't need the Microsoft entries (since they pertain to the MS bluetooth stack), but I will definitely take a look at the widcomm entries. I won't be able to work on rom building until the weekend, but I will take some time to test it (to tell you all the truth, I didn't really test bluetooth as much as I should have with this release).

It seems that the device can't wake up only when goes in standby after applying the screen lock. Without locking, it can be powered on with the power button.
Downgrading to rom version 1
Hi steven,
After several times i tried to discover what's appear to make the battery totally empty (due the fact i couldn't start my 696 on every time i shut it down or just pushed shortly the "power on" button just to make it sleeping mode) i figured that something in the rom version 2 caused the problem.
I alreasy noticed (my last reply) that even the battery still ok, during trying to make the 696 go to sleeping mode it's refuse after that to power on and forced me to make couple of resets (because even after some resets the 696 still stuck without any responding).
Finally i downgraded the 696 to rom version 1.

P800 chinese dual sim Android - upgrade to 2.2.1

I have this P800 dual sim that runs on Android 2.2 (which in fact I think it is 2.1) and a Chinese Ingenic JZ4760 CPU (600 mhz), 256 RAM, 256 ROM. It has capacitive screen, GPS and Wi-fi. I'm desperate to install Android 2.2.1 on it for some tweaks and I don't know how because I'm new at this. I contacted the supplier but he couldn't help me with this.
Main problems:
1. Where can I find a working ROM for this so I`ll still have the dual sim option? Can't I just install a ROM from any other chinese dual sim or it has something to do with the drivers, CPU on the phone? I saw the hero H6 modding thread here on xda..
2. How do I make a full back up of the phone so I can go back to the original settings if something goes wrong?
3. How do I install new ROM without bricking it?
4. Is it absolutely necessary to root before I install the new Android?
If you want more information about kernel, hardware or anything else I can tell you from "Android system info" application that I installed on it. I might be a noob but I can learn really fast.
Please help! I just need you people to point me into the right direction.
To see the phone just search "P800 Android" on google

this files was taken from russian forum (forum .china-iphone .ru / viewtopic .php?f=22&t=11424)
Thank you for this. I will try it. I just have some questions: who made this firmware? and why don`t they talk in english so everybody can understand? I need to know if anyone used this firmware and if there will be updated firmwares in the future.
This firmware is made by manufacturer of p800, "rooted" system.img repacked by enthusiast from Israel. I'm and other users from topic about p800 of forum china-iphone.ru use this firmware. Reseller in China promise to send newer firmware on this week. As soon as it happen, link will be available at that topic.
On that forum everybody talk in Russian and foreign-speaking peoples uses Google-translate service to understand us.
For me, for example, English is not comfortable. (I think you can see it in my posts because my grammar).
When the new firmware is available can you please post a link in this topic too?
And since you use this firmware can you tell me if some of the problems I have, are solved? For example:
-Android market working?
-proximity senzor
-microphone
-did you get rid of all those useless chinese applications?
-is it Android version 2.2 or 2.2.1?
-wireless working?
-bluetooth working (sending/receiving)
-both cameras working?
-GPS navigation with iGO working?
-if you reset the phone at factory settings do you lose the IMEIs?
what did you do to install this firmware?
Is adobe Flash and adobe reader working? what about yahoo messenger?

Ok, I'll post link to new firmware, when it will exist.
Mic on my phone working excellent, Android 2.2, proximity sensor worked on Z800_2.2GG_FLV01.01B11, but on Z800_2.2GG_FLV01.01B16 it is not working, both cameras taking photos, but not video. GPS works with (download .osmand .net /latest-night-build/OsmAnd-stable.apk). Wifi is ok. I didn't here about loosing IMEI by this device. I didn't use Andr. market. Now when you have root access you may uninstall everything yourself.
would you please see if the bluetooth, android market, flash player and yahoo messenger is working? Do I need offline maps for OsmAnd to work?
Just now I send a *.docx file to Nokia phone by bluetooth without any problem. OsmAnd as i know will ask you to download offline maps at first run (You need just select Country/region you want to download) BUT i don't know is it free or not. My phone have no internet connection now, thats why i can't help you with flash and yahoo
Hi,
I've questions about this phone. I've see this chinese model with new processor and dual sim support. On the paper it seems a very nice product:
http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/ma...00-phone-running-on-a-chinese-made-jz4760-cpu
but the problem is when i want to find to buy this product
1. is only in english or chinese (french is my mother tongue)
2. i had 3 p/n z800 or p800 or pz800 (in russia)
3. in some site it claims it's a MTK6515 cpu inside and is only a fake on the system properties for the p800
4. in all site it claims 256 ram and 512 rom, but in this topic you say 256/256
for exemple here for P800:
http://www.fastcardtech.com/goods-5...droid+22+os+GPS+Dual+sim+card+phone+wifi.html
and here for z800:
http://www.lightake.com/detail.do/s...iFi_JAVA_GPS_Qaud_Band_GSM_Smart_Phone_-37579
Where is the truth?
Finally if it's really the new Ingenic CPU, it's really better than a MTK6516?
Thanks for you advice

Hello.
1. Android on this phone (like on other) is multilingual (French exist exactly)
2. As i know p800 = z800 = pz800.
3. If it will be useful to you I can say that i owned Toshiba portege g810 for 1.5 years, p800 is really better. It is not so fast as HTC HD2, but not so slow as Toshiba Portege g810.
4. I don't know about it's ROM and RAM, beside it is enough for me.
Now some useful application are not installable on p800, but i believe that new firmware will made progress in this.
Some users said, that old versions of firmware had problems with low sensitive mic, now it is ok.
Till now the preamp level of speaker are too high, that is why not comfortable to use it on max volume.
And the 3rd difficulty us in setting up navigation software, people says, that it is impossible to install iGo or navitel (OsmAnd is workable).
The next problem is inability of setting max ringer alert volume, when speaking volume is not on the max level.
The quality of materials and manufacturing are high.
Oh, i forgot to say about excellent touch and bright (suppose AMOLED) screen.
The CPU model is jz4760
P. S. In store where i bought it the details are mistaken too ( www .aliexpress .com /fm-store/403972/210660520-441180847/Hot-Selling-2011-Android-2-2-Phones-P800-phones-with-gps-wifi-java-dual-sim-dual.html)

Please tell me step by step how did you root and install this firmware. If you could answer today it would be great. I tried to root with SuperOne Click to make a full backup in case something goes wrong but it didn`t work and I opened USBbootTool.exe but it`s in chinese and I don`t know what to do. A video tutorial would be really nice..
Step 1. Installing the driver loader.
0. Unpack the archive with the firmware.
1. Turn off the phone, remove battery.
2. Hold down the "volume up" button and connect to the cable.
3. Remove your finger from button. =)
4. PC will find new device and ask the driver (is sited in the "uboot_driver" folder).
5. after installing the driver to turn off the phone from cable.
Step2. prepearing Root
1. Replace file "system.img" in "img" folder with "system.img" from dedicated archive.
Step 3. Flashing:
1. Run USBBootTool.
2. Turn off the phone, detach battery.
3. Hold down the "volume up" button on the phone and connect USB-cable.
3 1/2. remove your finger from button.
4. The process will start automatically.
5. After flashing you'll see Chinese dialog window - it ask you to enter the serial number of 14 digits that has no matter.
6. After that, just insert the batteries, and power on your phone.
Warnings
1. This oeration will DELETE all your custom files, thats why backup phonebook to SD-card or to PC
2. Connect USB-cable to backplate of your PC and use original cable or better if possible.
3. Win 7 x64 didn't install that driver. You must use x86 (32bit) windows versions.

Thank you for the reply. Where can I get that serial number? And what do you mean it doesn't matter? What settings did you had in USBbootTool? Mine is in chinese.

Hi!
I didn't fill serial number at all, somebody fill this with random digits.
USBbootTool is in Chinese, all settings are correct, you do not need to change anything there. Just follow the instruction.
Good luck!
Thank you very much. It works.
1. After you unpack the archive the Z800_2.2GG_FLV01.01B16_生产版本 folder must be renamed to Z800_2.2GG_FLV01.01B16
2. The steps were correct but I don`t know how to verify that it`s rooted
3. Like you said it didn`t work on my Win 7 x64 so I went to my neighbor who had Win XP
4. I put 11111111111111 when it asked for serial number and it worked so it doesn`t matter indeed
5. Proximity senzor not working at all
6. Android keyboard missing (Sogou Input instead)
7. The name of the operators still doesn`t appear in notifications just like before. There are just some numbers: 22610 for Orange and 22603 for Cosmote
8. USSD code for Cosmote still not working. *123*2# - This is for showing me how many messages I have left on Cosmote.
I will test different applications so I can see what's working and I`m waiting for updated firmwares from you. Thanks again. You`ve been very helpful. There should be more people like you.

Thank you for comment.
I'm just translating information from Russian topic. And giving my experience of using this phone.
2. To verify rooting i'd install Root Explorer and now it is possible to set RW parametr on system folders. Some application start workig after changing firmware, before this apps said that root permission missed.
5. Yes, proximity sensor is not used by interface in this firmware.
6. Android keyboard are able to be selected. For example, open messages and choose creating of new SMS then made long press on text field and tap "select input method" appeared, you need to choose "Guboi alphabetic..."
7th & 8th problems are nod fixed yet
Hello everyone, I have the same phone and when I was trying to root it start making problems and then it's not booting anymore, so this firmware is very important to me, I'm in United Arab Emirates and it's almost impossible to download from Rapidshare. So can anyone be kind and upload both of the firmware to any other site midiafire will be great if possible
http://www.mediafire.com/?ptgu7rdps2gjd22
http://www.mediafire.com/?5j53v5x0zg6zc1c
At the end just wait until it doesn`t do anything anymore(just be patient), then unplug the cable, put the battery and power it on(don`t put the battery with the cable pluged, you could distroy the battery). The booting will take a little longer than before.
If you can root it, please tell me how you did it..
