Well, school is out for the summer, so I can focus on putting out roms again. With this release, I made another WM6.5 rom to test a new compression type that I'm working with. With the original stock compression type (XPR), I didn't have enough space to fit all the goodness of WM6.5, so I switched to a new compression type (LZX) that lets me pack in more. I'm curious to know how the new compression type performs in comparison to the old one. Does anyone notice things are faster or slower?
Thanks to Makuu (for helping to get me started), Lenny, AstainHellbring (thank you for all the nightly help sessions), the creators of the tools I used to make this rom, and anyone else that I failed to mention in name who gave me the knowledge to complete this rom.
Asus Mypal A6x6 WM6.5 version 2
Windows CE version 5.2.21892 (Build 21892.5.0.89)
This was tested on an Asus Mypal A626 (and works). It should work with the A686/A696, but the other models were not tested. Any other models not metioned above WILL NOT WORK.

download: http://www.easy-share.com/1910266747/Asus_A6x6_WM65_2.rar
At this time, this will be the only download link. Mirrors will be created in the future (after I give permission).
Instructions (I have included a txt file with same instructions for offline convenience)
Before you do anything, make sure you have at least a 256mb SD card and a card reader (you can get one at a place like Radio Shack or Office Depot). You also need to install winrar (found at http://www.win-rar.com/download.html). Your SD card must be formatted with the FAT16 file system.
To format your SD Card with the FAT16 file system
Step 1: To do this insert the SD Card into the reader and go to "My Computer".
Step 1a: BACKUP YOUR FILES before you start!!
Step 2: Right-click the drive letter of the SD Card reader (differs for each computer, probably either E:\ or F:\ or G:\) and click "Format".
Step 2a: Don't worry about any of the options except for file system, choose "FAT"
Step 3: Click "Start" and wait until it is done
Step 1: Get (OS) rom image
Step 2: Extract files to any folder on hard drive using Winrar
Step 3: Go to the folder where you extracted the files in the RAR archive
Step 4: Make sure that the filename is "CANNES_A_WM6.img"
Step 4a: if the img file it's not exactly "CANNES_A_WM6.img", rename it to that
Step 5: Format the SD card if you haven't already done so using the instructions above
Step 6: Copy the img file to the SD card, see step 6a
Step 6a: Make sure that the img file is the ONLY file on the SD card after formatting
Step 7: Take SD Card out of SD Card reader and put it in the a6x6
Step 8: Make sure that the a6x6 is plugged in via ac adapter before doing the next few steps
Step 9: activate SD Loader using the following instructions {
Step 9a: Hold down the power button and enter button (that's the button in the center of the d-pad)
Step 9b: Double tap the soft reset button while holding the other 2 buttons
Step 9c: After double tapping the soft reset button, keep the other 2 buttons held until a blue screen comes up that says something like Asus Cannes flashing utility
Step 9d: Wait until the process is finished (it's near the end when it says "writing private")
}
Step 10: At this point, your a6x6 should reboot on its own
Step 11: enjoy your updated rom
If you have any questions, feel free to just post or PM me.
As I release new roms, if you have a support question, please give me the rom version so I know what rom you are working with. You can get the rom version from the filename of the rom pack.
Example: Asus_A626_WM614_1
A626 = device (most often it will be A626, will rarely be different), WM614 = os version, 1 = release #
I only added MS Office Mobile this time because the new MS Office Mobile 2010 had not been released yet. For my next release, I am not including MS Office Mobile due to the fact that you can download the new version free from Marketplace.
My work is free for everyone's use, but if you feel compelled to give a donation towards my work (I am a full-time college student working on this in what little spare time I have), my paypal e-mail is "[email protected]"

Some indication about free memory after 6.5 rom installation?
If something wrong, is possible to reinstall the official 6.1 rom?
Thanks

Nothing is wrong with the rom. I would just like to find out if people notice a performance impact (good or bad) with the new compression type (that is supposed to give you more storage space) that I'm trying out with this rom. Iif there was something very wrong with this rom, I would never release it to the public (ok, perhaps I jumped the gun with the 1st WM6.5 rom, but I did put out warnings and a bug-fix rom to remedy some issues with the 1st rom). And yes, it's possible to downgrade to WM6.1 (just a note, Asus never put out an official WM6.1 stock rom, so I had to make it). The latest stock rom is WM6.

Thank you so much for extraordinary job on rom ver. 2 !!!
I was intalled this on my ASUS 696 and it went smoothly without any problems.
In addition, it looks more faster as you mentioned beside rom ver. 1.
The current rom taking the sum of 29.53MB from a total of 53.35MB memory (what let us 23.82MB free at the program memory section).
Again you made a really holiness work due to the fact our mypals still relevant...

Installed this ROM today, and performance on my A696 is not so good...
First – after reboot it was stuck on Windows startup screen for 4-5 minutes. I thought the flashing process went wrong, but eventually it booted up.
I haven't tested it thoroughly yet, but the first things I noticed – reaction to any user event (tapping, scrolling, etc.) is MUCH slower than on the WM6.1 I'd had before. Haven't tested the application performance yet.
Also, when I tap on the battery indicator nothing happens.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that 1st boot time has increased with this rom. This is due to the new compression type. For the power icon, I just noticed your concern. Unfortunately, I don't have a fix for it right now. You can still view battery information by going into the settings.
If anyone knows how to flash a rom in a different language, please enlighten me. I have made an attempt at making an international rom (this time was German), but I can't get it to boot (I have an English version A626). I think the reason it won't boot is because I didn't configure the firmware right (the os is right though).
ROM working very good so far on my Asus A696. Looking forward to a German version but I could live with the US ROM. Thanks for your hard work.
You could also see battery level by using the ASUS Manager Icon on the Today Screen.
Good job
I would donate, for a Portuguese language rom. Thanks!
Problem with rom 2
Hi Steven,
I noticed in a one small problem of rom 2 after flashed on my asus 696.
The problem is that whenever i push the power button shortly and alternatively i'm trying to push it again to power on, it failes to succeed what leaves me to make an another resets for several times.
Can you resolve this issue during upcoming next rom?
Thanks for your good job!
Was a little slow and less responsive on the first startup, but after a soft reset it worked GREAT!
Once again beautiful work Steven, thank you very much!!!!!

Same problem.
And a second issue: my A696 freezes if I work with the BT module (handsfree, file transfer)
Thanks for the ROM.
When I was making the rom, I was looking for a way to delete the MS Bluetooth stack to free up some space (which is perfectly fine). I'm not sure, but I think the problem could be caused by me deleting some dll file packages related to bluetooth that are shared between the MS Bluetooth stack and the stock Broadcom stack (which is better).
Finally got around to flashing the new ROM. It appears to be working fine. I mostly use the A626 as a music player so I've had no issues so far. There is one thing that I'm not sure if its just my A626 or if anybody else has the problem but when I plug in the external AC adapter it doesn't seem to recognize the external power source... it will charge the battery it doesn't use the screen brightness and timeout settings, it will stay using the settings as if it is running on battery. Anybody else notice this?
*******
Actually after playing around for a couple hours I have an issue where once the device blanks the screen out I cant wake it up by pushing on the screen or the power button. If I connect power and disconnect it and reconnect it I still can't wake it. I have to reset the device to get it back to functional. I've tried reflashing and still have the same issue.
*******
I switched to a different mini usb charger and now it is recgonizing that the external power is hooked up... must have a weird usb charger. I've also gone back to using 6.5 1a to see if I have the same stand by/blank screen issues.
Bluetooth handsfree
I found some registry entries in a french site, with these settings we can enable the bluetooth handsfree service. I attach this file, maybe Steven will integrate in the next ROM (this service can be disabled in the bluetooth settings like any other service if you don't use). The application (which is from asus \windows\bthandsfreedevice.exe) has a little bug: can't do the synchronization of the phonebook and calllog from the phone (I tried with nokia 6233). If anybody know about a newer version of bthandsfreedevice.exe or know another (better) bthandsfree application, maybe we can make a working handsfree device from A696.
brgds,

I noticed these today as well, and re-flashed but wasn't able to resolve the problem. Will continue testing the ROM.
While I don't need the Microsoft entries (since they pertain to the MS bluetooth stack), but I will definitely take a look at the widcomm entries. I won't be able to work on rom building until the weekend, but I will take some time to test it (to tell you all the truth, I didn't really test bluetooth as much as I should have with this release).

It seems that the device can't wake up only when goes in standby after applying the screen lock. Without locking, it can be powered on with the power button.
Downgrading to rom version 1
Hi steven,
After several times i tried to discover what's appear to make the battery totally empty (due the fact i couldn't start my 696 on every time i shut it down or just pushed shortly the "power on" button just to make it sleeping mode) i figured that something in the rom version 2 caused the problem.
I alreasy noticed (my last reply) that even the battery still ok, during trying to make the 696 go to sleeping mode it's refuse after that to power on and forced me to make couple of resets (because even after some resets the 696 still stuck without any responding).
Finally i downgraded the 696 to rom version 1.

How to update your rom to the latest I-mate version (with push email) and Radio 1.09.0 using the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe method
1 – download the file “Universal_Upgrade_v1.30.68_radio_1.09.0.zip” from the ftp site (see bottom of post for details)
2 - double click the file and allow it to unpack into a folder
3 – right click on the active sync icon in your tasks tray on you pc (at the stage you should NOT have you universal plugged in)
4 – select connection setting then untick “allow USB connections”
5 – Now take your Universal and take out the SIM and MEMORY CARD
6 – Press light + power + reset with the phone on, this will place the universal into bootloader mode
7 – Connect your Universal via the USB cable to your computer directly i.e. not though a USB hub
8 – Now double click on the program called “MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe” (found in to folder from step 1) this will start the upgrade process, the first stage takes about 3 to 5 minutes to complete, you will then be presented with a screen showing a “Imate Jam” and some information about what you are upgrading to, don’t be worried if this screen does not show you the version numbers you have at present that is normal.
9 – Now continue with the process by clicking upgrade/next
10 – After sometime (about 20 minutes) you should be at the end screen tell you to unplug and reset you “jam” So now unplug your universal and reset it and that’s all there is to it!
Note that during the upgrade process you can follow the progress by also looking at your universal screen with a light source as the backlight will be off.
I hope this post helps someone as looking around the forum Im amazed by the amount of people asking “how do I upgrade my rom” or “I only get a “country id error” when trying to update”

Blank screen but do you have the USB or SERIAL written on the Screen?
Rat didn't mention in his post but it comes out in the last screen that it is supposed to be a HARD RESET which will bring about a menu where you have to press 0 (Zero) to ahrd reset the device. hope this helps
Yip, sorry, That's correct. I get the screen that says I have to press 0 to reset or X to exit.
If I press 0 the screen goes blank and stays like that.
I've installed the previous ROM now and it is working perfectly. It's just the new ROM on this page doesn't want to work on my Jasjar.

I downloaded it straight from the first post and it installed flawlessly...
Have you tried installing it from bootloader mode instead of direct update? And without SD card in the PDA? This might work.
BTW, I have returned to the older ROM.... advantages don't outweigh the disadvantages.
My phone keeps on hanging (for the 1st time ever after 5 months use and different ROMs) on the screen where it shows whose calling. I havent answered the call yet but it stops ringing. When i open the PDA it has ANSWER on the left softkey and pressing this doesn't do anything. Will wait for the release..
It is a lot faster thought (the test ROM)
Thanks for the info. I'm not gonna bother upgrading now. I'll wait for a decent ROM later.
Thanks m8
umm - stupid question I know.....
But what does this actually DO??
I understand that this will upgrade the radio stack and thus produce better reception etc - but what else will it do??
If I have an Orange M5000 will I still be able to use it on Orange's network?? Do i need to fill in any settings? Do I need to make notes of certain stuff beforehand? If so - what settings?
I assume this will totally rewrite the registry and what programs are on teh device - or will it??
I suppose a lot of this information is available on the forum - but tracking it down can take a lot of time for someone who's not necessarily that 'au fait' with the working of the device.

not if your phone is simlocked (or network locked). new rom is only the software.

Does this rom work on dopod 900?
Is this is final release?
Cheers,
I did a rom upgrade on an hx2110 - installed successfully, but now the only thing I can get the pda to do is go into Pre bootloader mode (i.e. Pre-BL 1.00.02 blue screen). SO I tried the universal bootloader method - makes it all the way to the flashing portion but then does NOTHING - the terminal simply sits there saying "ready" and does not upload anything - the program sees the correct communication port (ie. usb01 or whatever). HOW do I force an upload???
Thanks!
Rusty
On another note - I had purchased a working 2110 with a good mobo to replace this one if the flash is not repairable - is that a difficult procedure? Unfortunately, the 2110 I purchased was not working, but this may still be in the books at a later time, so some info would help.
Thanks!

Rusty,
You are so lucky that I experienced this problem and solved it on my own. You did not specify what ROM you were loading, but here is the fix:
First you need to get another pocketpc, hx2000 series like yours that is working.
Put that device into white screen bootloader or pre-BL mode (depending on which device you got to borrow)
Ensure that the battery on that device is 100% charged.
Run the original ROM upgrade for the ROM you wish to install (use PDAViet if it's WM6 and use the HP SP32408 to Run it)
Hit all the Ok screens until it brings you to the one that has the "UPDATE" button.
Remove the working Ipaq from the cradle and place it's 100% battery in you own.
Put your Ipaq into pre-BL mode and put it on the cradle. Press the calendar button to activate the usb drivers.
Once it says "USB", Hit the "UPDATE" button and it will load the proper ROM to your IPaq.
When It is done, perform a hard reset by formatting the PS on the device.
Voila!! Your Ipaq is Un-Bricked!! Put in your original battery and charge it up!
Enjoy!!

hi Rustmonkey,
i have the similar things - i made my hx2110 brick when i flashed it with a different language ROM, it went 100% when i flashed the ROM but didn't work at all after that.
the problem is i can get it in the bootloader mode after trying many ways, at the same time the pc can't find any USB device at all.
how to make it work again?
thanks.

You're going to need another hx2000 series to make sure the battery is fully charged - put the battery in and then use the bootloader keystrokes immediately (contacts+itask+reset) - you made need to tap reset a few times while holding the other two to get it to work. After it is in bootloader mode, push the calander button while it is connected to the cradle/usb to get the pc to recognize it

really amazing !!!!!!
I just saved my hx2110 as per your step by step instruction now.
Thank you very much.
ok, well, I thought they were fixed... now one of them freezes at the bootup screen, even when I do a clean reset... I've tried reflashing multiple times to no avail... any ideas whats going on?
ok, got everything working - reflashed the non-working one back to an original 2003 rom - which made if freeze at boot - then upgraded it via pre-bl to 1.00.00.L - from here, it wouldn't do anything after filling the bar at the boot screen, but it didn't CRASH (as in lights out) - so I ran the pre-bl again and ran the flash program for 1.00.00.L again WITHOUT swapping between the 2495 and the 2110 - just put the 2110 in pre-bl and away we went - flashed, formatted, and booted - then proceed to upgrade to WM6 via 1.00.00.H --> 1.02.00.H --> WM6 - works GREAT!!!
Thanks for the help everyone!
Dear All,
I`ve got the same problem but i don`t have a second ipaq.. is there anyway to repair it with out the second device???
Thank you very much
Abs
Hello,
I have run into some problems with a bricked hx2110.
I was flashing the IPAQ to a new ROM WM5 (Battery was full and I read all the instructions 10 times prior to flashing). While flashing, the progress bar went to 100% then faded out immediately and it wouldn't reset (clean reset). I put the battery in my friends hx3000 series and the battery I used was completely dead. It did flash to 100% though, but not matter how many times I try 1 + 3 + reset, it doesn't reboot. If I can figure out how to get it to boot, that would be great, but I can't get anything to come up with any key combinations.
To this point all I can do is get into Pre-BL mode 1.00.04. I have tried the below scenarios on two machines, both running windows XP SP2 (USB 2.0) with the firewall and virus software disabled.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330382&page=4
1) I have tried the above links directions and used the the Universal Bootloader (Bootloader.exe). It gets to the point where it says "The PDA should be updating now" or something similar but nothing happens. I don't get any errors regarding communications (it sees the device when I hold the "Calendar" button until it says USB; windows then recognizes the device as "HP USB ..." so I know it's communicating).
2) I tried to use the Bootloader_GUI.exe beta so that I can watch the progress indicator but it just sits at 0%. There are no error messages so it is communicating but for some reason, the device won't let it flash (and the flash utility thinks it's doing something).
3) I tried the original ROM flash from HP (SP29856.EXE) and it recognizes the device, but because the current ROM on the PDA is hosed, when it does it's "verifying" process, it comes up with "?" marks as the model number and when it goes to flash it starts at .1% then says "FINISHED" immediately. The ROM utility thinks it flashed it correctly but it didn't flash anything. I'm guessing that the verification of the PDA failed and forced the utility to not flash.
Does anyone have ANY ideas of what to try? I wish I had another HX2000 series PDA and try the "swap" thing prior to hitting the update button but I don't. All I have to work off of it my sad bricked PDA and a full battery (friend keeps charging it). His PDA is an HX3000 series.
Any ideas would be appreciated,
Thanks!
Are you using a the HP flash program that is specified for your device?
2nd - you might be able to use your buddies device in a swap as well - not sure but its worth a shot - use HPs upgrade program, let it verify, then swap your device onto the same cable - overwrite the firmware in the update program for HIS device with firmware compatible with yours and then hit update - let us know if this works...
I am using the "official" HP flash program specific for the HX2110 (from their website - SP29856), bootloader.exe, and bootloader_gui.exe
I wanted to try my friends, but he won't let me touch his because I bricked mine lol (I swore nothing would happen to his but he still won't let me try it).
Anyway, I just copied over the ROM image (from HP) and stripped out the header (now showing 64 bytes before the ECEC). The ROM is for WM2003. I copied the ROM in binary using psdwrite.exe to an 256 MB SD card. As soon as I can get the battery back, I'm going to try to flash it from the SD card. If this fails, I am going to try to play around with MTTY / USB and manually call the ROM flash and see what happens.
Having another HX2000 series would make this easy (maybe a little TO easy )!
Bootloader never worked for me - but if you can get it to manually call the flash, more power to you good luck!
Well it was worth a shot. After spending the better part of the day with the PDA, I have made no more progress (can't get Pre-Bl to update). The only option I have now is to find someone with another hx2000 series that is willing to resurrect it from the dead for me (PM me if you can help - I will pay two way fare). Until that happens, it's going in the "broken" drawer with all my old comp stuff .
Thanks to all the tips and tricks that is posted on these forums and brighthand! There is a wealth of information on this topic and without them, I would have gotten nowhere in trying to repair the device (granted, I wouldn't have been intrigued to upgrade the ROM in the first place and would still have a working PDA, but that's besides the point ).
Best of luck to you all.
1).download original ROM from HP (sp29799) -extract files
2) download http://upload.dvhk.pl/content.php?id=88892 - replace files

Hi to all! I installed a new cooked great rom to my trinity a month ago and it worked fine. it is this rom
[ROM][ITA]WM 6.1 Elegance edition 2.14 (OS 5.2.19213 Build 19213.1.0.0)[ONLINE]
today I got a strange error and the phone was stuck. I unplugged the battery and when I started again it was stuck on the calibration screen. if I tap on the screen nothing happens but the backlight turns on if it was off so it still catches the taps. I connected the phone via usb to delete from the autostart menu the link to the configuration screen (welcome.exe) but the phone is not deteced by activesync so no way to browse folders on my device or use a program like SOTI to control the ppc. I want to bring it back to life as I know that my files hasn't been deleted. in fact if I press the right soft button I get a menu of a program I put in the ppc and it's not included in the elegance rom so I'm sure my files and my configuration and everything are still there.
if i get a phone call the phone rings (with the default ringtone anyway, but the name of the caller is displayed correctly, that's why I'm sure my device still has all my contacts and more)
what could I do?
is there a way to edit files from bootloader? does mtty work for this? (I have no idea how to use mtty so I might be wrong) could I make a full dump, edit the startup folder and reflash the phone with all my data?
I tried to use mortscript witht the autorun feature to read a part of the register regarding the welcome file and deleting it's link in the startup folder but the sd card driver is not loaded I think as the files are not launched, while in another phone the same script works fine.
thanks in advance to all who will have time and will to help me
pcwizzul
as far as i know (not that much), reading files from bootloader is pretty impossible.
You can always just reflash. If the touchscreen problem persists, it's possible that the problem is hardware related.
Your computer should detect your device when in bootloader, and failing that, you should be able to SD flash (assuming you're HardSPL'd or equivalent, thats just what we have in the herald forum)
Thanks for your help
I'm quite sure the hardware is fine as all my problems started after a crash of the OS.
Anyone has an idea to get access to my ppc?

if the sdcarddriver is not loaded then the following will not work but give it a try anyways. make a text file "whatever.txt" no quotes then rename it to "welcome.not" no quotes then put it in the root of your storage card and it should skip the whole startup process. that is if it loads the sd card driver or you might want to think about flashing another rom
I already tried the "welcome.not" trick but got no results. I'm afraid that the sd card driver is not loaded then.
Thanks for the hint irus anyway!
Really there's no way to read files from bootloader or something similar?
not that i know of
but the fact that your issue was noticed during a rom flash
dont mean it's not hardware related
much like a heart attack which happens during a thunderstorm
dont need be related to the thunderstorm
Wait! The error never happened during a flash. I never said it. I had that rom on my trinity since a month and it worked like a charm. Then suddenly I got an error and the phone was stuck.
I have understood what you mean but at least I hope it's not a hardware failure!
I wasn't expecting to do this, but I had a 2 hour delay at my college due to snowy weather, so I decided to take the time to upload my 1st official WM6.5 rom for the Asus A6x6 early. Keep in mind that this rom is far from perfect and the fancy new WM6.5 today screen is not working (looks like the today screen from WM6/6.1).
Thanks to Makuu (for helping to get me started), Lenny, AstainHellbring (thank you for all the nightly help sessions), the creators of the tools I used to make this rom, and anyone else that I failed to mention in name who gave me the knowledge to complete this rom.

Step 9: activate SD Loader using the following instructions {
}
Update: Ok, I put out a bug fix rom with a fix for the today screen. I am still trying to find a fix for the sound and notifications control panel applet. The old rom (version 1) is deprecated and is not available for download any more. Use version 1a instead.
ASUS A696 User
Hi, Thanks for the release and good work. Since this is only the beginning (I hope), I begin to inform the performance firmware on my PDA (ASUS A696).
1 - Bluetooth - does not work (does not receive or send files)
- In the settings instead of the icon is a black square.
2 - Today - of all the elements shown only date and time, and only in the old form (as in the previous OS). I wish that Today was like other communicators.
3 - Start - which happened to all the sounds from the "Sounds and Notifications"?
4 - Software & others - as the 696 series have more memory, you can not throw out the program and plug-ins.
Waiting for a new version
Sorry for my English? i'm from Ukraine).

A few comments on your post:
1. I will check on the bluetooth situation. When I tested bluetooth, I didn't quite test file exchange enough.
2. I am working on a remedy/fix for the today screeen. However, I have no idea how long it will take for me to get it working.
3. This is just a matter of updating a few files. I used an older (and verifiably working) package to give non-phone support.
4. I am aware that the A696 and the later version of the A626 carry more flash rom space than the older version of the A626 and the A686. However, no matter what device I make roms for, there is a finite amount of space to fit everything into. As operating systems and programs progress, they get bigger and bigger. If everything keeps growing in file size, there is less space to fit more items, so I must remove some files/programs to keep within that finite limit of storage space. Where do all the files that I put into the rom go? Well, if you take a look at your storage memory, you will see that the total storage memory available is less than the standard 256 rom size.
I've downloaded and successfully flashed. Working good so far. I'm just installing some programs that I normally use and haven't run into an issue yet. It will be nice to have a working home screen but for now it isn't that big of a deal. I don't use bluetooth often so I can't comment on that yet. Wifi working, my music plays with S2P, I used windows market place to install netflix and office.
Keep up the good work!
Good job, but there are many failures to complete.
1) Today
2) Pictograms from former versions
3) "Sounds and Notifications"
4) Black pictogram Bluetooth in menu
5) When I close program - PDA show me Today(but must show menu)
6) Where is Oficce?
7) The pictograms not move in Start menu(only "Move to top")
Can you change your previous OS(WM6.1 rom version 2) context menu, pop-up menu and other for new from this OS?
P.S.: Sorry if you don't understand me I used translator...
Do you have french rom...?
Thank you.
just tested this build together with your WM6.1 release.
first impression - looks nice
even though seems slower on A696 - but this could be just because it's not tailored fully.
1) didn't test bluetooth much but seems to work fine with sending/recieving. I'd even say it's faster than on WM6.1 v2 release;
2) "Sounds and Notifications" problem with Events from previous v2 WM6.1 build;
3) under "System - Bluetooth" sometimes on BT icon there's black square - didn't notice when it happens though;
4) closing program throws you into Today screen insted of previous step;
5) same problem with Task Manager as I've said in previous thread for WM6.1
good luck
Hello, Steven!
I'm very thankfull to you for WM 6.5.
I have trouble, while installing, to say correctly, on the beginning of installing on my a626. I did everything as in instructions, even for few times. When i press power and enter button, make double tip on the soft reset, I see blue screen, where said sth about Cannes and its version.
it write my FAT type(FAT16), i see very little blink of "Reading file", if not take off fingers from power and enter button, it resets to blue screen again, if take fingers off the buttons, PDA loads...I just don't know what to do.. please, help me!
ps: sorry for my english.
I think I've found an issue. This morning when I turned on the device I had a missed appointment, the notification dialog at the bottom of the screen showed up but it was blank and had the wrong time on it. Not sure if this is a 6.5 issue or an Outlook 2010 issue.

Oh dear..I will be sure to check on that. As far as Outlook, do you mean Outlook on desktop Windows or Pocket Outlook on Windows Mobile? The only thing is that office (outlook) 2010 is still in beta and hasn't been released officially to the general public yet, so I can't find any definite fixes. I still believe you, but the fact remains that Outlook 2010 is still in beta and the code for the finished product could always change.

I am using Pocket Outlook, the new 2010 beta. But it doesn't seem to be related to that, if I make a Notification Dialog popup from something like turning off the A626 it gives me a blank white box. Now I've soft reset the device and it seems to have gone away. I'll keep trying to figure out how to recreate it.

I haven't had much time for rom building lately. However, international roms are coming soon (I can promise you that).

In order to flash the stock rom, you have to change two hex values in the IMG file. Starting at location 0x0C, there should be 2 hex values which read (in order) "09 04". YOu need to change those values to "36 D6". For those of you who think this is too advanced for you, I guess I should upload the WM6 stock rom when I get a chance.

Thanks! I was able to revert back to my WM6.0 ROM already, using USBLOADER. Its just I did it the wrong way on the first time.
The WM6.5 ROM is great, I think my screen became more sensitive with this ROM. I just needed to go back to WM6.0 because I am using my Asus A626 mainly for my work. WM6.5 in my opinion, is best when you are using your device as a Portable Mobile Device.

Thanks! I was able to revert back to my WM6.0 ROM already, using USBLOADER. Its just I did it the wrong way on the first time.

Well, you could always try my WM6.1 final mix rom (which is long overdue). I will try to upload that sometime either today or tomorrow.
Bug report
Hi Steven,
This ROM is near perfect, Thanks for your work! One problem I noticed: In my A696 with these ROM I can't configure the messaging, if I select the new account the program goes directly to outlook mail, not to account configuration.
Can you release a cab fix or some registry entries for fixing the problem?
Thanks again,

Hi! Waiting for your final WM6.1 ROM.
Hello,
I really appreciate your work a lot, and I would like to upgrade the OS of my A696. However, do you have any Dutch versions of the 6.1 or 6.5 released?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT:
I have another question too: how can I backup my curent ROM, so that I can revert to it back if something goes wrong?

Any news? Anybody has the same problem, or only my pda is in this situation?
not sure about that one; anyway, I'm working on an updated rom, so I will check on that when I test it
Hey Steven I missed the last update. Do you plan to drop the next anytime soon or should I just flash to version 4?
As a matter of fact, expect 1 tonight (since I'm now done with a week's worth of quizzes and tests).
Hi, really great work! I will try it.
But few questions that is worried me. Please answer if you can.
1. First more important for me:
a. How much free RAM memory do you have in you device, when you just load your firmware without any startup programs (for example on my A696 with latest asus firmware free memory 32-35 MB).
b. How much free ROM is available for user? as I understood it is should be less comparing to default Asus firmware. And I have intension that is not correctly to compare it by image size
2. And another one: have it original Start button and desktop like WM6.0? (Can you please provide few screenshots) I mean non finger oriented interface that I saw in a new smartphones, it's not comfortable for me I hate this )))
3. And last question ASUSstatus utility Is present here? it is very nice utility for set CPU or usb mode.
Hope it's not to much questions, and not very hard.
And again big work thanks a lot.

Somebody have asked you about host usb. I think you are right it is used by BT. But this processor have another one if it is interesting for you, you can see it here 27895102.pdf (please search in google, because I'm not able to put external link here or try this int.xscale-freak.com/XSDoc/PXA27X/27895102.pdf) on the page 29. But I'm not sure that is exist the way to use it, even with hardware modification due that all processors pins are hidden from us. If believe to handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/MyPal696 only internal host usb will work, so addition of driver just will give a calm of soul for us that it is present )))
PS and sorry, hope my English is not to hard for understanding
I've successfully installed it and....
Hey dude that's really cool (on the first look)
I will ask on my questions myself (ASUS A696) after boot next results
1.
a. Free RAM 29-30 MB (I think it's enough)
b. Free ROM (inside storage) ~173mB (wow)
2. Interface is acceptable for me after changing few settings.
3. Yes ASUSstatus utility is present here
I'm happy, thanks.
Now I will try setup my favorite software I'll install nice virtual keyboard for three languages (or more MS still doesn't implemented it ), videoplayer ... etc
I'll continue my testing.
And one question:
Maybe you can suggest utility for backup state of pda. I've used earlier spb backup Is it nice to use with this firmware? did you try it& I'm asking because I have bad experience with default asus firmware, after few rollbacks diffirent applications always crashed.
thanks. thanks. thanks.....

SPB Backup is still usable with WM6.5, but you have to download the latest version (it can be a trial version) from the SPB site (and make sure you have you key handy; the setup program will ask for it to install the full version). I've been using SPB Backup with all of my roms with no problems (I just didn't install it on the last 2 flashes due to time constraints). As far as video players are concerned, the ever-popular "TCPMP" works quite well. For video mode, just don't choose gapi as the video mode; the A6x6 has a bad implementation of gapi due to it being a landscape device and gapi (by default) assumes the device is a portrait one. The gapi issue is something that only Asus can fix (well, I could probably do it if I had more time on my hands and had some firsthand knowledge of how Asus implemented gxdma.dll).
Speaking of gapi, does ANYONE know of a way to enable the virtual gamepad on pocketgnuboy with gapi enabled (since I am dealing with a landscape device; whenever I enable the virtual gamepad, it's there, but the area that the virtual gamepad uses is "blacked out")? If not, is there a way to keep the framerate from slowing down when disabling gapi on pocketgnuboy, OR is there another gameboy (color) emulator out there that has a virtual gamepad that you've tried and it ACTUALLY has a decent framerate (+ sound)??
Steve - I know you are busy with school and what not but any chance you will be dropping the new ROM anytime soon, otherwise I'll flash V4 and test it.
