T-Mobile 6.5 - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Just want to know what is the over under for T-mobile getting the official 6.5? I say 3 weeks. This sucks.

H as in HSDPA {enhanced 3G (third generation)}?
You didn't mean E by any chance did you?

Definetly H where I was getting the 3G indication with the 6.1 OEM ROM.
So by that link it looks like I am getting 3G, wonder why it detects differently... time to dump and play
Thanks for the link!

I believe we use the term "3G" because its easier for most people to say than "HSDPA" and they seem to be less confused as well.
Any cooked ROM will say "H" instead of "3G" unless cooked otherwise.

I thought H was like 3.5G. I'm in Australia so i cant get edge, but my notification area shows both H and 3G, it swaps between them, as well as the tower icon for GSM.

Somone mentioned in the AT&T HSPA thread that Tmobile & AT&T disabled the H in their ROMs. If you really want the 3G instead of the H, theres a registry edit that'll disable it for you.

Any news on t-mobile 6.5?
As the days go by, i'm hating this phone more and more. I know i can mess with the Rom, but what ever happen to a phone being good straight out the box?

Ive had my touch pro 2 for about 2 months now and I love it, Out the box it does alot more than any other phone out, Try flashing the official European rom it works great with the tmobile touch pro 2.... How can a phone get any better other than a the processor and memory????? this is a beasttttttt...

I love the phone, how could you not? My house became a dead spot for all Tmobile phones over the weekend for some reason & I had to use my unlocked Tilt for the duration... I have no idea how I used that phone for so long... I missed my TP2 like crazy for those 2 days!
It was weird that any Tmobile branded phone wouldn't work in my neighborhood, but an unlocked Tilt with my Tmo SIM card worked perfectly.

I'm using the official euro rom too and it's pretty sweet. I did use the t-mobile rom for a while but couldn't help myself, always checking out the neighbors grass - green, green, green. Check the forums for AT&T bloatware and you may feel a little better about things . That grass is not so green.

I agree with the previous post. The WWE 6.5 version is very slick, and I would never go back to the 6.1 t-mobile version. I'm glad I didn't wait!

What do you hate about this phone? It is a great phone that does everything. Granted I have flashed the ROM but I didn't hate anything about it for the 2 weeks I waited before flashing it. (for reference about 2 weeks longer then any other of my phones)

of if you use Advanced Config there is a setting under Data that will allow you to enable/disable the HSDPA Icon.

I liked the t-mobile firmware when i got it. Had some quirks but worked a lot better than my g1. (Good for it's time, Lack of apps and poor battery life got to me. I can browse the web on my tp2 on and off for 3-4 hours and still have half a battery left.)
I tried tons of 6.5 roms. Many had neat features and was cool but a lot of times, there was an issue that drove me nuts. Battery life was a huge one. My battery goes dead a LOT quicker with some of the roms. I hope that the t-mobile 6.5 has just as good battery life and cool features as the htc 6.5. I have noticed that with the htc 6.5, the gps isn't as strong. I can get a signal outside in a minute or two but near a window i get nothing. With the t-mobile rom, i could get a signal near a window. My new sony ericsson from t-mobile gets gps a LOT better!
Thanks t-mobile for the tp2!

3G on Rogers in Canada

I wanted to revisit this discussion that has crept into a couple of other threads.
I have a Diamond I bought from Hong Kong back in mid-June. I'm in Canada and using the phone on Rogers' network. I'm afraid I don't remember the shipped ROM and radio, but it was one of the early ones.
In spite of other threads that say Diamonds out of Europe and Asia can't use Rogers 3G network, I was definitely able to access it. The download speeds were very fast (I downloaded a 40 MB podcast file in a matter of seconds) and the HSDPA "H" showed regularly (sometimes switching to EDGE in poor reception areas).
I decided to change the ROM a couple of days ago and have tried a number of different ones (Dutty 1.6, HK WWE 1.93.831.1, Elite 3.0) and tried some different radios (v1.00.25.07 and v1.00.25.05) but was never successful in getting HSDPA back and now I can only get EDGE.
I have searched the whole site for useful input on this subject but have yet to see anyone who has had HSDPA on Rogers like me. Was I just lucky or is there no way I could have been getting 3G? Can I get back to the early ROM and radio to see if it would work again (in spite of the slower performance)?
Help would be appreciated.

What kind of hardware of you using? Diamond 130?
I just cant see HTC wasting the money to have 2 different sets of hardware for European and american bands. That would be 2 different assembly lines, sets of workers, etc. But I am getting serioulsy frustrated trying to find out if I can download a Radio that will work with at&t 3g......
I just spoke to an Expansys rep and he said they will be receiving a NA version in 3 weeks, I asked if this was going to be a different hardware version he seemed very sure it was
I still am very skeptical..... for a launch this big, on top of that, at&t is getting the touch pro, and when it comes to htc products, at&t will only sell quadband pocket pc's. I really still doubt this will be different hardware. Especially if the person who posted this already had 3g on their EU diamond until they flashed a different rom.
EDIT* also, it could be he wanted to make a sale when they got them in, rather than you buy a European one now. Just one salespersons point of view.

I really hope you are right and DIAM100 can pick up 3G bands in NA

Yes, it's a huge ripoff but I was on Rogers site this morning...and I see that they have a promotional package on until Aug. 31. $30 for 6GB...added to your current voice plan. That's not too bad...their current pricing for 5GB is $100/mo.
...probably for the IPh**e launch...

Blazer, thanks for this link. I spent a while trying out old ROMs but without success. I don't ever remember seeing "3G" but I did get an "H" (I'm not too sure what that means though). I have read through other posts and see that people are successfully getting voice on the 850 band and hoping for UMTS to follow on future radio versions.

I'm using the Rogers $30 for 6GB package and do quite a bit of surfing now and will probably do more audio streaming. I figured that since you have to pay something like $25 for 2 MB, $30 for 6GB is a relatively good deal.

NorthAmerican 3G Network on TP2 ??

any idea if i change my radio version on TP2 by installing AT&T or T-Mobile it could works the 3G on it?? i have TP2 EURO Version witch is runing on Edge Speed Network.
Its highly unlikely. The only reason i'm not gonna say a definitive no is because of the rumored world tp2. Now if its anything like the last like 3-4 HTC phones the antenna for the USA 3G bands is not installed in the device so u can do all the software u want but it won't change the fact that u won't get 3G
not gonna work, there's nothing u can do. This has been addressed many times, just search.
to bad as a good phone like tp2 does not support North American 3G
maybe i should sell it because this phone one of the best in market for now and the made it in very hight quality brand but no 3G it means no internet on it 2 bad.

Yeah, there is not much of a difference if you use EDGE or 3G on the phone itself. I do everything on EDGE, and i'm quite happy. The peak i got here is 20kb/s and is fast enough for my everyday needs. I can even stream youtube normally, just like my PC.
The big difference here is when you tether. On everything else, EDGE is fine.
I live in a 3G area and just switched from my xperia to the touch pro 2 and there is a huge difference depending on what browser u use. And youtube loads very slow on edge at least for me it does. 3G was much faster!
Based upon my experience with the Touch HD T8282 in the US I wouldn't recommend anyone here buy the Rhodium 100 with European 3G. I'd suggest waiting for the Rhodium 300 with the UMTS850.
EDGE Sucks, forget any streaming....period.

seriously, stop posting your sob story in any thread you find.
it's no one's fault but yours that you bought the European version that doesn't run 3G in the US. if you had done your research instead of relying only on whatever online store you purchased it from, you would have known that the Rhodium 100 doesn't have the necessary bands to support 3G here.
all that info is in this forum, all you had to do was look. so stop blaming the online merchant for not being "upfront" with you, because no one here will care. it's your fault for not researching the phone further than "ooohhhh the screen tilts and it's a 3.6 inch WVGA resolution and it has dual speakers and blah blah blah" learn from this mistake so you won't waste your money and posting space on the forum.

HTC Touch Pro 2.... A Pain in the US!!!

are you kidding me?! where have you been the past few months? its been stated multiple times in this forum that th euro version doesn't run US 3G. and why would you buy a phone without researching it first? if you knew the US 3G bands and compared them to what the euro TP2 uses, then you would have known. and its not the ROM that doesn't support it. its the hardware on the phone. people who don't read and search and do research annoy the s*** out of me.

How can you think that 'bluetooth' reads 'voice command'. Bluetooth just means bluetooth, nothing more, nothing less, just bluetooth.
It's like buying a car advertised as a manual gearbox (stick shift) and then complaining "where's the twin turbo and NOS!?"

yeah, but you do not have 3G though.
if the European TP2 could run on 3G here in the states i would already have one.
people don't realize that EDGE data really isn't THAT bad. I've been using it for a couple of days just to see how slow it really is, and it's actually pretty fast. sure, it's not as fast as 3G, but it's decent. and besides, an unlocked TP2 still has Wi-Fi capability, and in most cases Wi-Fi is faster than 3G. if I had the money, I'd buy the unlocked version and save myself the stress of waiting for it to come out for ATT
EDGE is fine for US networks compared to the overcrowded WCDMA that AT&T is currently touting. They need a major upgrade at some point. Most iPhone users have been getting dropped down to EDGE speeds without realizing it since they don't ever check their bandwidth. Same thing happens with most WM users in the US. On a good day, you'll get 1.2Mbps but on a bad day you'll end up with 60kbps T_T. In any case, the US should come out of the CDMA stoneage and get on the same good networks like the rest of the world. It's funny but I get higher speed everywhere else in the world except in the US. Consistency is key.

I agree. I've had 3G on my Xperia and my Tilt and I can't say i'm dying cause on edge. With push pages it helps a lot. I know that even after having it for a while i would still buy it again and recommend it to anyone even on edge.

On a serious note.. have you tried switching to the 2100 WCDMA frequency?
Not totally sure of the options on the TP2, but i believe under the network settings there should be an option to scan for a different network.
The Taiwanese HTC web site states that the Taiwanese version of the handset is built for European and Asian 3G networks running at 900 and 2,100 MHz.
...not to mention the sorry battery life that 3g get you even if it were fast all the time i would struggle with keeping it on because ei use my tp2 all the time for work and pleasure and i would have to charge it twice a day if i used 3g

reception problems

hi all
ive been having trouble with my desire for a while now. im getting very poor signal and not been able to send mms. i was with t mobile but didnt get anywhere with them so i left and signed up to vodafone who brag reaaly strong signal in my area. guess what.... worse then t mobile. i get 1-2 bars max and my 3g constantly drops off to nothing a lot. ive been to htc and vodaphone and still no real help. vodafone are sending me a new sim incase its a problem with mine. has anyone else got a poor signal in a good area? i tried the sim in a different phone and had the same bed reception so i thought it was vodafone but then tried my friends sim in my desire (orange). he had 4 bars in his but in my desire i only got 1-2 again. this would suggest a problem with both lol.
the strange thing about the 3g is everytime i switched it it droped down then off with in a few seconds but i used advanced task killer to kill all apps and my 3g came on straight away and didnt go again. could somthing be blocking it somehow maybe? my reception was still poor but atleast i could get some sort of internet.
im alos finding brown blotches on my battery cover. like the coating is rubbing off. again anyone else had this?
I get a rubbish signal, and have e-mailed HTC support to see about getting my phone replaced/repaired. I only get a 2g signal at work in central London, if I set the network to "WCDMA Only" it can't even detect the network, but when I put my SIM in my old phone (HTC HD) I get 5 bars of HSDPA and around 3mbps data so clearly the phone is the problem and not coverage.

I don't want to root it otherwise I'll end up wasting time flashing different ROMs every week. Besides, I don't see a new radio making a difference when it can't even detect the 3g network and the blackstone gets 5 bars H.
as above im not to keen on rooting too. not that i dont really want to more that i dont know enough to try it. ive read the walk throughs and it sounds easy ish but i dont want risk it. i did the who new rom thing with my hd2 and i was for every changing roms. what im trying to find out is where the problem lies, vodafone or the desire.

Same problem with my desire but only after the ota update last month i think it was. I am also not comfortable rooting yet.

How do you know it's not working?
If you're running CyanogenMod, and are expecting a 4G icon, CM shows an H instead because it's not "real" 4G.

Technically, our device is HSPA+ and not 4G, hence why the developers opted for an 'H' icon; there is a mod out there that replaces the 'H' with a '4G' icon, if you want your device to lie to you like T-Mobile did.

no thank you! if this is the truth then i'll just stick with the H. i just needed to know. SCREW YOU T-MOBILE for making us fall for that 4g
In my opinion - T-mobile's faux 4g is better (and I suppose AT&T has it as well, but AT&T sucks )
Reasons:
1. So much cheaper for them to put into place.
2. Speeds (on 4g networks I have used - NY, Dallas, Portland, dozens of other places) are always north of 3 mbps down and 1 mbps up, all you really need for any kind of laptop tethering, and certainly more than you ever need for netflix on your phone, and definitely way more than you need for browsing sites on your phone (good websites nowadays even with plenty of pictures are small size still).
3. It doesn't suffer from the constantly low signal issues of real 4g (i.e. no signal AT ALL inside of buildings - this is what I have seen from multiple people who have traveled with me - I have 4g when they have 2x or whatever the hell edge is for them)
4. Super cheap for our provider to upgrade, passing savings on to us in the long run - in some cases, all the tower needs is a firmware upgrade. At worst, fiber optics lines are needed in order to facilitate the faster speeds needed.
5. In "real" 4g phones, you have to turn something on to access your faster speeds? Really? I know, bit hypocritical coming from a guy who has rooted his phone and flashes roms, (for the record, I've only flashed G-lite after rooting!) but I bet the average consumer doesn't realize that they have to turn it on and never uses it. With HSPA+, it might not always be really "4G" when the icon says "4G," but at least we don't have to turn anything on - we just have to be in signal range! If you really want to know, you can get a widget (or modify the good ol' framework-res.apk )
6. Furthermore, BATTERY. Need I say more? From the numerous people who have managed to get LTE signal I have traveled with, the BATTERY DRAINS LIKE WATER OUT OF A... SOMETHING WITH A HOLE IN IT. Ridiculous. Don't know about you guys, but even when I had low signal strength HSPA+ at work all day long, my battery would fall maybe 30% over 12 hours of light use on the stock unrooted rom.
I've decided to make a thread out of this in the "General" area, just to collate everybody else's opinion and see what you all think!
