hi all
ive been having trouble with my desire for a while now. im getting very poor signal and not been able to send mms. i was with t mobile but didnt get anywhere with them so i left and signed up to vodafone who brag reaaly strong signal in my area. guess what.... worse then t mobile. i get 1-2 bars max and my 3g constantly drops off to nothing a lot. ive been to htc and vodaphone and still no real help. vodafone are sending me a new sim incase its a problem with mine. has anyone else got a poor signal in a good area? i tried the sim in a different phone and had the same bed reception so i thought it was vodafone but then tried my friends sim in my desire (orange). he had 4 bars in his but in my desire i only got 1-2 again. this would suggest a problem with both lol.
the strange thing about the 3g is everytime i switched it it droped down then off with in a few seconds but i used advanced task killer to kill all apps and my 3g came on straight away and didnt go again. could somthing be blocking it somehow maybe? my reception was still poor but atleast i could get some sort of internet.
im alos finding brown blotches on my battery cover. like the coating is rubbing off. again anyone else had this?
I get a rubbish signal, and have e-mailed HTC support to see about getting my phone replaced/repaired. I only get a 2g signal at work in central London, if I set the network to "WCDMA Only" it can't even detect the network, but when I put my SIM in my old phone (HTC HD) I get 5 bars of HSDPA and around 3mbps data so clearly the phone is the problem and not coverage.

I don't want to root it otherwise I'll end up wasting time flashing different ROMs every week. Besides, I don't see a new radio making a difference when it can't even detect the 3g network and the blackstone gets 5 bars H.
as above im not to keen on rooting too. not that i dont really want to more that i dont know enough to try it. ive read the walk throughs and it sounds easy ish but i dont want risk it. i did the who new rom thing with my hd2 and i was for every changing roms. what im trying to find out is where the problem lies, vodafone or the desire.

The problem is neither its the software, the shipped radios are **** lol thats why htc release so many new ones

i did think that might be the case. i had a similer thing with my old hd2 and a new radio did help a lot. again havent really got the confidance to root this phone. hopfully the update will bring a better radio. any ideaqs why using task killer brought back my internet conection?
Same problem with my desire but only after the ota update last month i think it was. I am also not comfortable rooting yet.

So i've had the HTC Desire for a week now and i'm starting to think there's either an issue with the phone or with the T-mobile (UK) network.
When the phone shows 'H' , browsing the net, downloading, or using the marketplace is a snap.
However, when this dips to 3G, either no data seems to be relayed to the phone or it does so incredibly slowly.
This means, web pages or marketplace often ask me to retry as no data connection is available.
I don't think it's a signal strength issue as i have 3bars when connecting under 3G.
Has anyone else experienced this?
*(worth noting that i got the latest OTA update pushed out today , and still have the issue)
*(Posted this in the UK tmobile forum too, to see if tmob have anything to say)

It is the Network.
Hero / G2 owners have had lot's of issues and last week I was in Europe with my Desire and I had 100% perfect connection 99% on H Speed (even on the underground!)
Came back here and 3G simply does not work anywhere near as good or actually at all!
H or G2 only it seems.
T-Mobile Customer Service feel that not having 3G is fine and acceptable as you are not paying for 3G and they are meeting their requirements of providing the ability to make calls, send text's and have net acces via 2G.
- cheers for that info. I've actually seen the issues with the G2 (hero) you mention on the Tmob forums. Can't believe so many users are being ignored.
Just disgraceful. I wish i knew this before signing up with them. I can't get H in my office, only 3G and it's useless
Is this network issue location specific, or does it affect of the UK? Presumably London or another major city shouldn't have this issue.
I live and work in central london.
Calll TM up I had a new QOS policy applied to my account and also I was told the MMS settings were affecting my speed.. I used speedtest.net app to see what speed I had no more than 300k on both 3G and HSPDA.. It is now fluctuating between 1500k and 2300k
They are still looking in to my issue thats why it keeps fluctuating..
Defo worth giving them a call
any updates ninjak?
i was VERY tempted to get T-mobile deal on this but now im not so certain...
Hmmm, my connection has been perfect no connection drops...ironic my BT line has gone fault (pretty much dead) and im using my Desire to tether internet on t-mobiles network till they come fix my landline on monday...so yeah no problems here

Where abouts in Manchester are you based? The coverage in my neck of the woods is shady to say the least.
Central......Ardwick (Apollo Theatre)
Having the same issues on T-Mobile Netherlands lately. It already started with my G2. But with the Desire I constantly need to retry... Let's hope we don't have faulty handsets...
I don't seem to have any problems downloading when I have the 3g or H symbol, but occasionally those symbols disappear altogether suggesting the mobile network option is turned off, but its not and it still shows 3/4 bars suggesting it has a signal. I had to reset my phone this afternoon so I could actually use data, bit annoying really.
^ sorry double post..
anyone in milton keynes? with first hand experience?
Can anyone confirm what actually happens when you lose connection to the net via 3G?
My browser has "hung" a few times - page will stop loading, and neither a refresh choosing a link from bookmarks will work. In fact this stops my browsing completely - even using Advance Task Killer to kill the browser doesn't solve the problem, and I have to reboot the phone.
Are these the symptoms people are seeing here, or something else? I didnt notice at the time whether I had the 3G symbok, or the H.
T-Mobile is really bad network i was stuck with them for 18 months on my G1 poor mobile internet and phone signal, once i download some app for it, which tells you with a noise when you loose your signal. omg had to uninstall the app becasue it went off so many times. Now on vodafone with my HTC Desire much better in the warrington (in middle of manchester and liverpool) area. A while back my dad said T-Mobile used to be that bad he had to go into the garden to make a call..
There seems to be something wrong with the settings IMO.
HSDPA is nowhere near as fast as it should be I don't think. There was a topic saying if you change the APN you get faster internet but I didn't try it.
Does anyone have the TMobile handset, but flashed a generic ROM?
Does this problem still exist with the generic ROM?
I want to stay with TMobile as the prices are easily better than anyone else, but NOT if this internet/data problem persists. I would rather pay the extra £100 to Vodafone over the course of 18mths to get solid data connection.
I will be rooting my phone when the method is made public/reliable etc, so want to know if this problem goes away.

I have perfectly fine signal. the only signal issue I have is with wifi when I'm holding the phone a certain way. this is a high end phone, if you're having trouble getting reception, talk to your provider/htc and troubleshoot.. you shouldn't have NO reception in the same area as someone else on the same network...
Good call pmcqueen...one thing I might add is that I saw a couple apps on and off the market that claim to boost youre signal

Not sure if its the case but if you have crap reception aka the signal from the tower isn't that strong, you can't magically make more signal.

i have had my phone a week or so now battery is getting better but the cell signal is really bad compared to my last device which was a n8 is there any solution or fix??
Ive a X on Orange and I have to say it seems to struggle to get a good Orange signal in areas I'm sure used to be very good on my sensation.
I am also with Orange. I am finding the connection very eratic. Quite often there seems to be none or one bar, then it will jump to 2 or 3, then drop to none again. Anyone else seeing this? I know there is a thread on the WiFI dropping at times.
plz report it to HTC. I'm on T-Mobile (UK) and having same problems. The more reports they get the more likely they'll take note.
Does the signal issue have to do with the way your holding the phone in low signal areas?
I'm on T-Mobile UK too which now uses Orange masts. Anytime it switches to an orange only signal I only get a G signal. I've turned off data roaming and all is well.

I've found similar issues but also I can't get it to report a signal better than -83dbm. Anyone else notice this?
I'm hoping the 1.28 update has a new radio.
Did you try another sim?
Also are you using a legit MicroSim or you cut your old sim into a MicroSim? This causes bad signal.
Try to avoid covering the lower left corner with your hand as it will greatly attenuate the signal. Not to the same extent as the iPhone 4 dramas, but still quite noticeable (2 bars).

Legit microsim direct from the network.
I can have my phone on the desk and I am actually seeing the wifi strength and the mobile signal fluctuate between 0 and 2 bars. It does that most times I take it out of sleep mode, it does this for about 60 seconds then stabilises. Happens almost every time.
Just chatted online to HTC and he was quite quick to say - faulty fone. ask for replacement.
But I have heard from a few people locally, all on orange, who have said they have had major reception probs on orange in last few days, dropped calls
---------- Post added at 09:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:56 PM ----------
update
Orange are blaming it on local cell issue, didn't listen when I said its not just local, but then again she did ask me to take battery out of One X !
Anyway, she got me to go to GSM only until local cell fixed. Am I correct in thinking that this will not use HSPDA now though ?
Do you mind me asking exactly what you asked htc? I'm finding that my desire is often ~10dbm better than my One X
Huw
Just told him I've noticed significent drop in signal from Sensation, lots more T-Mobile log ons too. He quite quickly said get fone swapped.
Orange reply as above, blaming local masts.
The signal seems to jump from one extreme to another either full bars or one bar only.

just to add on..
me in singapore here having this problem too...
and also using legit microSIM
im on vodafone and today noticed that in an area where reception is usually fine, i had nothing.
... anyone know if this could be solved by a radio update or is it perhaps an unfixable hardware problem?
got the flickering screen too... seriously thinking about ditching htc, but i hate touchwiz and not really sure what to go for... maybe just go backward to a sensation XE.

Installed the 1.28 update last night. Signal is now much much much better. I Don't experience any of the above anymore!
jaspabt , are you using a branded or unbranded HOX on orange ?
Hi guys,
Im having issues with connection speeds though hspda on my hand set (tmobile uk).
Im getting really really poor speeds, if i download something of dropbox it can take an age - yet if i download the same file from my wifes desire hd (virgin mobile - basically the same network just rebranded) she gets it very quickly.
i then tested a bit torrent file and never got past 5kBs on my phone but hers reached 97kBs and held. Mine would drop down to 500bs most of the time as well.
The signal strengths are the same and i have tested this in a quiet a few locations now and the results are consistant.
Also ive given up streaming tune in radio on my phone as it constantly drops and now use the wifes virgin desire hd as it working correctly with no drops.
My sim is now 11 or 12 years old now and im wondering if that could be the cause of the problems im having with connectivity.
Has anyone had bad speeds running an old if not ancient card like this?
Have they changed the design of the chips with the event of 3g?.
when i purchaced the original phone on the contract i dont think 3g was avalible then so im suspecting that could be the cause,
can anyone shed any light?
thanks
Your sim is so old? :O so you cut the sim to make it fit for the hox. Order a new one mate. Old ones mostly cause some trouble. You should be able to order a new sim from your provider for a few bucks or even for free. Try it out. And of course you can install speed test to see how the transfer is.
Gesendet von meinem HTC One X mit Tapatalk 2
thanks mate, ive just got a replacement free of charge, the speeds are 1000x better, only problem now is my imei number is no longer there and the phone wont show my phone number.
i think they were a bit suprised that it was working at all at the age the card was.
why do htcs always reset the home screens on sim change, blooming annoying!!.
just fixed everything, got the settings from tmobile and i now have imei number, phone number etc, and the phone running a lot better!! i cant understand how a sim card could make the phone run so badly, either way its had a new breath of life and running much better,
anyone that has an older sim get it changed, i think mine only supported 2.5g as i wasnt getting any speed above that.
thanks again
Hi I've been using this lg p930 first with AT&T and now I've unlocked it and use it with a straight talk SIM card for t-mobile (I was sent a t-mobile sim by straight talk even though I told them my phone is unlocked AT&T).
I'm aware of the issues people are having with rebooting and freezing and am glad to say I don't experience this at all when I'm at home. However I usually visit my sister on the weekends and this phone does nothing but reboot. At my own home, I have great reception, no wifi, and no rebooting. Here at my sisters apt there is virtually no reception except by the side of the apt facing the street where the window is.. There is wifi here. And my phone reboots. It's rebooting as I type this post.
I thought it might be that whenever the phone has disconnected from the carrier and is trying to pick up a signal to reconnect, the phone will reboot..? Since my phone works fine at home I was wondering if anyone had a simpler suggestion besides rooting and installing a custom rom to fix the rebooting which only occurs at my sister's apt? Like a temporary fix? Since the phone works fine any other time I want to avoid any heavy changes.
Thank you... And if anything I suppose ill just deal with the damn reboots when I visit the fam.. Or be the reason why I shouldn't come over to my sisters crappy apt every weekend. :victory::laugh::victory:

What baseband are you on? do you get 3G with t-mobile?
heres what my phone tells me..
android version: 2.3.5
baseband version: P930-MDM9200B-V10j-FEB-26-2012-XX 1
kernel version: 2.6.35.11
build number: GRJ90
software version: LG-P930-V10j-FEB-26-2012
i dont know about my 3g...my carrier is straight talk. i guess they piggy back on t-mobile networks. currently they reduced my data speed to slower than dirt because i play some games on my phone which use a launcher to connect to facebook to play the game and somehow this is too much for their network to handle. they say when i refill with a new service card, my speeds should return to normal unless they monitor excessive use again which they will then lower my data speeds again until the next time i refill. i really couldnt tell you if im 3g or 4g.. right now everything on my phone connects at the speed of dirt.
well, anyway i dont know how to check that. please teach me how and ill tell you..
Why not upgrade to ICS? This may help with reception and stability.
this rebooting only happens when im at my sisters where there is no reception. it doesnt happen whem im at my own apt where reception is good. im not againt upgrading or anything, im sure eventually i will, just wondered if there was a temp fix that wont require a lot of messing with the system.. im usually at my place so if its not broke here then i dont mind leaving it as it is.
I agree with the "don't upgrade unless you need to" sentiment but ICS offers so much more than GB. ICS is also faster and much less laggy based on my personal experience with a Bell P930.
try flashing the V20c baseband. I was getting 1 bar constant, and afterwards I get full now. Other then dead zones. Montana woo hoo

well, i switched carriers from straight talk to t-mobile. i get reception at my sisters now and the phone hasnt rebooted yet. now i wonder if i do upgrade to ics if it will be worse or not... because i do agree gb is a bit laggy and the browser is pretty slow imo.. but now with t-mobile i get the 4g lte symbol ... and im orderin tg an extended battery for this phone bc the battery drains so quickly..
thank you for your helpful suggestions!
