Diamond Hardware and Win 6.5 - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

can Touch Diamond run windows 6.5? or is it powerful enough to run it?
enough RAM to run and ROM to store?
And is it fast enough?

If you talking about the Orginial one then i guess we will have to wait on that however the cooked ROM's here for 6.5 cooked by our own chefs works great on the Diamond and they are pretty fast too.
Dont Judge Diamond by its size

for official rom i believe that we wont get it, but thats why there are so many cooked 6.5roms!

Except for the shortage of sufficient free RAM (Prog Mem) there is absolutely no problem.
Storage/processor etc are all sufficient enough for running the WM 6.5 ROMs. Try one available on this forum and experience yourself..
Ya, The official ROM has a big question-mark against it...

Officially - No, I really doubt it.
Unofficially - Yes the Diamond Cooked ROMs work very good and have enough RAM

How do I free RAM, I just installed 6.5 with TF3D (not even Manila 2.5) on my Diamond and it is slow. I had to empty the pictures folder on the device and store them in internal storage for the album to work. It kept saying there isn't enough memory. And it seems the accelerometer (screen rotator) doesn't work.

Unfortunately I've found I have to use a pretty minimalist rom. The two I have used which I don't need to restart several times a day due to low memory are Windows Revolution and Windows 6.5 Clean Basic. These can both handle TF3D but again recommendations are to turn off all the features that make it look good (e.g. dialler).
Wm 6.1 isn't better in this regard. It's just an underpowered device so you have to make compromises.

FOR WHO WANTS ORIGINAL TOUCHFLO 2D MANILA ON ARTEMIS:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425694
IT WORKS REALLY FINE AND SMOOTH ON
I HAVE AN ARTEMIS ANJA AND MOSSI ROM 6.1
i second this on yues extra-clean!
greetz
p.s. one thing i really dont fancy about those manila guys is their not displaying the version details in the cab name, this way you find various .cab version posted everywhere and never know which one it is!
this 1 is much better thn all those throttle launcher themes
... just one thing i am missing:
how to change the buttons of the bottom row- order and showing buttons-- i just dont need all of them!
greetz
p.s.. the manila dialer is cooked into yue_v9.1 extraclean !!!!
thormdac edit the file HTCHomeSettings.xml search for tabs and disable what you wont!i gonna try to make a lite version... the last cab install around 330 files to windows directory!!! insane
I haven't tried that combined package yet, but everything installed from single packages works fine on Tom's oops.
Are you going to release this rom in a single package?

will try that!
would be nice if you could make a light version
thanx
Works but not so impressed
Tested it on YuE's clean rom, it works but that's all.
Don't find it so spectacular cause I work with SPB Mobile Shell 2.0 with Diamondskin 2.1
This Manilla thing it's a combination of Spb Mobile Shell Diamond Theme & Throttlelauncher.
BUT it would be nice to implement in any new roms, don't like the HTC Diamond home plugin in the middle of the screen... And they cannot implement the Mobile Shell 2.0 with Diamond theme as homescreen cause it's not freeware...
Only the clock is not so nice on the startup screen, but this can maybe be changed.
just installed it on my artemis touch 4.02 lite no cube rom, it took about ten minutes to install, then when i restarted it about 7 minutes for the pda to load back up, and everything was so sluggish ! I then tried to uninstall it and that took about 15 mins then gave up and said it could'nt uninstall it properly.
Thanks god i have a sprite backup to restore.
It may have been my fault though, i selected install to storage card ? or maybe it just installs to windows anyway.
oh well...
you must install to the device, even though it lets you choose.
oh well i cant even restore, so i have to reflash again, what a pain
i tend to agree,
even on my rocket fast yue extraclean, i feel extremely slowed down (in comparison to without it) in trade for which gain?- optics? hope we can lighten this baby down

The same for me (with an extralight rom and installing Manila 2d in device).
It works but.......very slowwww.
I unistalled it (correctly) but starting time after soft reset was too long: only solution a hard reset.
What about RAM consuption... What can you tell me about it?
I'm also uninstalling it, Spb Mobile Shell with Diamondskin 2.1 is much nicer to work with...
I haven't experienced any slow down of my P3300 with this either...
The Manilla 2D is still in beta, maybe some programmers can speed it up so that rom-builders can cook it in their roms.
HI,
I don't know why your manila 2d is slow , I only can suppose that must install a wm 6.1 diamond rom based , for example i get the anja and mossi on it , or must look for some rom similar
My manila 2d it is fast and works really well, anyway before installing it I uninstall all gui stuff like SPB shell
I installed manila on memory device and not on sd card
I have 14 MB ram free once manila is working , and is working well
i second to the past users' comments
i have tom's oops black 1.0 installed, and i've installed manilla on my device.
everyone should agree that touchFLO 3D aka manilla wasnt actually designed for artemis.. bt it was targeted for diamond which has higher ROM, higher RAM and a higher processors with a graphics device to assist its processes. it would be slow on any device with 128MB ROM and 64MB RAM and a 200MHz processor.
however, its not that slow.. i have 15MB free after Manilla is up and running after power-on.. i can use other applications fine.. bt surely the startup is slow.. takes a bit of patience heheh..
anyway its nice work from another xda developer.. i greatly appreciate ur work...
i've been using manilla on my artemis since it was launched for artemis.. im happy abt it..
hope that somebody can make it less bloating, more efficient, faster and more usable with better customizations..

Manilla2d trinity resources hog?

Hi, everyone on the forum, I was wondering if you were having trouble making manilly2d work smoothly on your trinities. My trinity becomes relatively sluggish and free memory drops pretty soon. When trying to use gps software it locks, freezes etc. Same with Opera browser.
How are your Trinities handling great looking manilla2d?
Use one of the ROMs with Manila2D cooked into. Its far better than installing it afterwards.

ROMS with Manila cooked in work only slightly slower, not enough to bother me at all. I think it all depends on what 3rd party software you then install on top.
The trick is either finding a Manila ROM which more or less everything you need it already (like Ervius's ROMS) or naked ROMS which have only the minimum (like Chalid's ROMS).
Also, I recommend using Mpenguin14's "M2DC (Manilla 2D Customizer)" to get rid of the Manila tabs at that the bottom that you don't really need. This reduces memory consumption and therefore improves performance. Some cooks are putting it into their ROMS, but there is a cab you can download too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427392

Thanks for all the advice I allready noticed beter performance with album and audio player tab turned off but nevertheless it seems slower.

I gave up on manilla and htc home. The clock can be replaced by PDC, weather by spb weather(there's probably a lighter solution though), app launcher by the start menu(people usually don't use a wide variety of apps, start menu can list the latest which will do just fine), sms/mms/calendar/tasks by the respective native plugins.
All the other apps are cute but useless, like, you already have a speed dial on the phone app, as for media just launch the respective apps.
manilla on trinity
Hi, I am happily running chalid's rom with Manilla2d - meaning that it runs correctly but can become quite slow (for example, A2DP skips if i keep wifi or other programs in the background). The problem, in my opinion, is not Manilla but...our trinity. The low amount of RAM makes any program which is consuming memory running slowly and/or lacking responsiveness. Try Igo8, for example, and plan a long route...this is true beyond manilla, and the less memory you have free, the more sluggish it becomes...
I came to the empirical conclusion that TNYYNT Roms are faster simply since he is keeping memory consumption/allocation low, and this is why Chalid's 0.8 is faster than any other manilla2d i've tried. For example, i was not able to run tomtom efficiently on ervius' rom - but it ALMOST works correctly with chalid's (which is based on TNYYNT as you know).
My conclusion: upgrade to touch HD ! it is the obvious way to improve the trinity: better screen, better CPU, better RAM....
lately i been using PDAviet ROM .44 and the manila user interface is relly fast and pleasant to use - the only think that I'm craving for is more RAM in the device
All is well if one application is running but have a few open and the sistem will complain
One thing that I see with this ROM is that if you start a memory intensive application - like opera 9 or your tube or tom tom it will close the ManilaUI temporarly and restart it automatically when you close the application so everything runs fast - but only one thing at the time

Hi Pzucchel.
Thanks for your advice the other day on sd cards.
I have a new Kingston 4GB Micro SD (SDHC) Card coming tomorrow and going to reinstall Tomtom 6 onto it. Then I have to pick a ROM! I love the Manila 2D interface, have tried practically all of the current ROMS, but I can't have Tomtom letting me down.
When you say Tomtom ALMOST works on Chalid's, what happened? Did it come out of the program half way through a journey?
And on Ervius' Rom... were you not even able to start Tomtom?
Mattster.
I switched back to a non manilla2d rom and my trinity is flying again! Windows are opening fast and overall performance is better, igo 8 works without crashing. Manilla looks great but I'm gonna hold back for now! Bye all
64M Ram a problem, but here is a work around
pzucchel has raised the main issue- it's not the code, the ROM the M2D or iGO8. Our Trinity is only 64M RAM, and with operating system, if we have 25-27M free RAM we are lucky. Running M2D will normally eat up 10M or so more. With careful memory management it will not slow down our phone. however it will not allow to have M2D as a today plug-in and run iGO8...
Having M2D in the cooked ROM helps a bit as far as speed (not significant) but will not help in memory management. So that was the *****ing part of the post. now let's have a work around. It is not a solution- yet it will allow us to enjoy M2D and iGO8 without getting crazy, and without a need to reset the phone 7 times a day...
1. Install a naked ROM. Look for ones that allow 25M free RAM after installation. There are few of them. If they are naked+M2D and leave 20M free, it is good enough. Having M2D in the ROM means no M2D updates possible. Having M2D installed manually means lots of work and a bit slower performance- each one knows what's best for himself.
2. install SKTOOLS 4.4.1 (Buy it! it worth the investment). Optimize to maximum memory. Our good old trinity works fast enough even with this setup. Also- turn shadow services on to free RAM. Don't mess up with anything else there. We are after more free RAM ONLY !
3. Install mToday. It's a small nifty free tool, that allows the user to switch easy between today plug-ins. Set M2D on one screen, and iGO8 on the 2nd one. Assign a key for mToday so by a push of a button you can switch M2D off and get iGO8 plug in on... For the lazy ones I am attaching it.
4. Make sure the following lines are in your sys.txt in the IGO8 folder. I mean the one in main memory under program files, not the SD folder, although for recovery purposes, make them both identical:
[debug]
cache=2048
reserve_memory=1500000
[navigation]
sim_speed_factor=3
True- it still will not allow using TTS , but that is kind of pushing the limits of the phone. I could use TTS if I turn the phone off, kill 3G and GPRS, push no mail, etc. but after all if I wanted a GPS device only, I could have bought one..
5. For TomTom users- same thing - kill M2D using mToday and keep running it. I did not try TT7 but TT6 was very much an easy run on the trinity, before I moved to iGO8.
Special thanks to the cookers, current and the ones who left this forum, for their dedication, time spent for this community, and insight. I am merely a tester, and I hope this post will make some other trinity users happy campers.
Cheers
BigE

I have no problem running tomtom7 and igo8 with chalid's 0.8rom.
but before i run igo, i have to close all running apps first.
like bigE mentioned, invest in SKTools. It's a great utility. I have its "free ram" apps as one of my shortcut. i always run it bfore i run any gps apps.
iGO8 and M2D- is it really running together?
rockuman_ex,
Yes, iGO may seem to work with while M2D is on, but, is it really? Here are some observations:
1. Choose to calculate a 1,000 mile away destination when they both are on - even with SKTOOLS I am running out of memory for iGO.
2. Have them both run, and try answering a call at the same time. Even with 1.5M reserved for 'non iGO' use in the sys.txt - most likely phone will freeze.
I have no experience with TT7. I have abandoned TT for iGO because I am travelling to destinations I could not have maps for TT in the TT6 era. I have got spolied by iGO and can't go back to TT, although I have to admit TT is making more sense for the trinity. But like all of us- I want it all...
I regretfully think that in the near future I will go with another HTC phone, waiting for AT&T to offer the HD here in the US. I have spent around $700 for the trini about 18 months ago, no realizing 64M will kill me so quick. Oh well- that is what we call experience, learning from mistakes...

6.1 works great with me
6.1 is better in everything you wrote
6.1 will be better
from what I heard, 6.5 would be slower, memory hunger, cpu eater...
hello
WM6.1 more free RAM
WM6.5 more responsive
This is what I can say comparing the ROMs of CV93+Oggi.

Hi to all.
For me , not exist a rom ok for all.
WM 6.1 is ok for any function but is slow.
WM 6.5 is very fast , but again is not regulary ,
with many bugs,
I am waiting a rom very very beautifull ,
without bugs.
When ????
Bye .......
i found 6.1 is much faster and good ram Management, some of rom like i m using NiAx 40 which is very clean, i have tried couple of 6.5 rom but they are very slow and un stable, i would better stick with 6.1, may be 6.5 requires more ram then TRINITY have.
Hello all
WM 6.1 is in the end and WM 6.5 is in beginning of development .
6.5 is faster , nicer , smoother etc... 6.1 but use 4 or 5 MB of RAM more , my latest wm 6.1 in Ultra Lite has more than 31 MB of RAM and latest 6.5 has only 27 MB and can to be daily use .
Hope this synthese help you .
WM6.5 is BETA but..
Folks,
I think Chanvi gave the best answer so let me just repeat it and add:
1. WM6.1 is at the end of the road. True, there isn't yet a phone that comes with WM6.5 but soon it will start.
2. WM6.1 has an advantage regarding free RAM. However, with some clever tweaks (using kitchens) it is possible to create a ROM that will serve ANY application that runs on WM6.1 to run on WM6.5
3. WM6.5 has more than few annoying bugs of WM6.1 resolved. Original WM6.1 used to have some major issues, such as lock users out with 'wrong password' and other MS crap. It was all fixed in WM6.5
4. The GUI in WM6.5 is great. It takes time to get used to it, and I was between the ones complaining about the change it took from WM6.1 but the naked truth is when i tried to be back to WM6.1 it was bad experience for me.
5. Finger friendly- I hardly use the stylus in WM6.5 So much easier than WM6.1 was.
6. Stability- Sorry to 'disappoint' you, but at least Chanvi came up with a set of ROMs that are too good to be true. not one crash since April (two months) , great memory management (no leaks) and good battery life. It isn't all WM6.5, it is , I think, because Chanvi and Oggi are very talanted. Nevertheless- WM6.5 is , by far, superior to WM6.1
And I was one of the people thinking WM6.5 was too heavy for our trinity..
To get you an idea: I run 3 email accounts (one exchange) , my today plugin is home2 (heavy graphics) and I use iGO8 for GPS navigation, with high resolution and 3D (but no TTS).
And lastly- it makes the phone beautiful. Whenever someone shows me his iPHONE/Samsung/HTC Fuze/whatever with standard ROM, and I show him my cooked WM6.5 on a 3 years old phone (!) it is impressive... and runs as good as theirs, if not better. 3 years in phone years is 21 years in dog years.. LOL.. so much for phones, especially XDA ones.
well apart from the comments above I personally think I like 6.1 better.
Used chanvi 6.5 for 2 weeks, and I can't stand the slow response of the device, especially accessing my SMS (i store lots of em) and it takes more time to load and switch between applications (about 2 - 4 seconds more than when using 6.1).
I even flashed 6.5 onto my friend phone, as to try out the new and latest OS, and he too came back to me after a week, saying please save me and reflash back 6.1 as it's too slow for him.
We are business users hence accessing options like SMS, MMS, and web browser and switching back and fourth between applications should be fast. Unfortunately 6.5 does not provide that. It's fast, but just the today's interface and when clicking start, but when you actually load any application, it will take longer than 6.1 which we can't bare anymore..
In the end, my friend flashed trynnt ROM and I flashed another ROM which uses diamond interface runs on 6.1 and have no speed issues anymore.

Hi neato2u
I'm agree only on thing with you on IE (web browser) is not good in WM 6.5 if you use new IE8 with widgets , it's very slow and lag because our device have not enough free CPU (not ram) .
I use also in professional and business , i don't know exactly how many e mail i have (stored in sd card) but certainly more than 1 thousand with 3 account , Tomtom 7.910 daily use ,more than 2 hours phone (Voip included) by day et... , my rom is a Extra Ultra Full with Titanium + Manila + SPB Mobile as interface , i change interface when in job or wk or holidays . Never problem crash or other , only one thing is true , some app. like "Auto Hibernate" or "Activesync Killer" don't work in wm 6.5 so recently i find and use cleanRAM level3 with settings by run auto all 3 hours .
You can not compare HTCHome interface with Titanium or Manila , of course HTCHome is the lighter interface but older also , you can also install HTCHome in wm 6.5 , it will work better than in 6.1

Some comments, as you did not mention some crucial info...
1. Have you tried IE6UltraLite ROM?
2. Do you support the phone with any tools like SKTOOLS for memory managment and shadow RAM services?
3. Ever tried opera MINI 4.2? (not opera mobile, don't confuse between the two). IE6 or IE8 are a disaster app, regardless if you use WM6.1 or WM6.5
I am, like you, using this XDA for business. I have no issues with either OS, provided I am taking good care of the installation of the above. Please keep in mind this phobe is not HTC but Dopod (were bought by HTC) and since WM5 there is not much of support for it by HTC. If you intend to keep using the trinity, even if with WM6.1, you can make it more efficient.
If you have installed the full blown IE8 version, yes, I agree with you it is not business oriented. But Chanvi has the lite just for the business side of it.
Besides, if you are really away from a computer and use your phone heavily, making it finger friendly is the main thing WM6.1 is missing. The GUI (and I mean the pull down menus) is what makes the difference for me. I was hesitating a lot with WM6.5 until Chanvi proved me step by step how WM6.5 can give me what i am looking for.
Other than that, the naked truth is a 64M RAM phone is a joke.

I'm agree with almost everything you said, but I think those few MB of RAM consumption difference are critical. I installed CV93+Oggi WM 6.5 OS 21501 and since can't use iGO (I tried several versions, even the new amigo) and it always says "out of memory" after a few minutes in best case. So if you need any RAM hungry app 6.5 is not for you, in any other case it may be the best option.
My impressions are: battery works for much longer, about 10 more hours with low/normal use (no wifi or bt, just phone). Screen and phone perfomance are better, in apps it's the same than 6.1. And I didn't find any incompatible software.
If there was anyway to close CHome, like manilla, we could get a few more RAM.

If you use Chanvi's latest WM 6.5 Kitchen, you can leave CHome and Manilla out completely! BigE is getting up to 29MB free in this way on one of his UltraLites. Without TTS, iGO8 breathes quite well on this.

I certainly do.. my best results were with the 21232 IE6UltraLite by Chanvi. 27M free RAM and 78M free storage. I skinned out M2D and CHOME (I use home2) and I run SKTOOLS to optimize memory. Joel from Pointui has created a home2 file that will send graphics to the storage memory, and on top I am using mToday to switch all home pluggins off before i run iGO. I get 23-26M free RAM (23 if I do not soft reset, 26 if I do) and can run iGO in high resolution and buildings, while syncing with 3 email accounts, get text messages and calls. If you have more need than that, than trinity is not for you. It is a 4 years old device with miserable 64M RAM... we are kind of beating a dead horse here, and Chanvi is able to give it a nice push and keep it alive before Diamond2 is released (I mean 3G supported around the world, not just EU, hard SPL released for unlocking, and decent forum activity to support it with cooks and testing).
The thing is, I have to admit, in order to make the device 'behave' it takes some tweaking and knowlegde, and it is not for the lazy or faint heart user..

SPB Mobile Shell 3 / diamond theme?

Hi,
I haven t flashed my diamond yet.
But yesterday I installed the spb 3 and it s amazing.
I even think it s faster...
Well, so my questions:
is there a diamond theme for spb3.0?
i ve seen there s one for 2.1, but it s not working on 3.0
Should I put a ROM for my diamond?
I want it to be as fast as possible (and possibly the touch screen to be more sensitive)
Which ROM would you advise me? (and can it be compatible with SPB3?)
I m not asking how to do it, just the latest ROMS avail that are faster and smoother.
i haven t properly understood how i can see what is inside each rom.
basically i want GPS working, i want tasks and calendar, internet and wifi and radio.
maybe a better video player cause the ones i have do suck.
That's it, thanks guys!
EDIT:
i have WM 6.1 how should I update to 6.5? is it easy? free?
i can t update weather data with SPB MS 3.
I have internet, it works.
but when I click UPDATE it does nothing...
Yes its free.
Yes its easy.
Run hardspl on ur diamond, and download one of the roms in this forum, then connect ur phone via activesync, start the program.
Then ur set to go.
Sry if that was a little hard to read, but i just woke up
ok thanks.
so you're telling me that WM6.5 comes preshipped inside some ROMS, is that correct?
Any ROM compatible with SPB MS3 and super light (but with GPSToday, Tomtom, Coreplayer or similar, wifi and some extra apps?)
Cheers

Flash ANYTHING else than the stock ROM and you will see about speed and smooth... And THEN compare it with SPB...

Win 6.5 is NOT OFFICIAL YET, so you can't have it in "preshipped" roms. What;s' out there is leaked betas.
Fast 6.1 Rom - Nataly (check Pietrucci's benchmarks), comes with kitchen so you can set it up the way you want.
Fast 6.5 rom - well, they are not THAT fast and consume more memory.
If you have manila CFC compressed, and a fast rom, then SPB doesn't offer any real advantages. It's just something different. I tried it, and, hmm... came back to TF3D. it's functional, smooth, etc. I tried to put out "i got used to it" factor, as you can get used to spb shell too. it's just that I didn't found any real (speed or memory) reasons to use SPB. And fork extra money for it on the top of it... TF3D is free after all....
As well, when it comes to the applications -you install what you want, don't expect to have tomtom in rom, apart from other things it's illegal.... ROM is a base. then you customize it (in kitchen ) or install what you want after.
Good luck in search for optimum config!
thanks for your answer.
ok so basically you're telling me SPB is not that fast compared to ROMs avail out there, and its functionnality is not that evident.
I like it a lot (though no way to update weather)
And my ROM is 1.93.,,,, radio 1.25... so it s not that outdated, is it?
which ROM should I put in order to have at least the same than what I have?
Cause it seems ROM development was huge some time ago, and you guys had the HTC diamond a long time ago... mine has 4 months, and this means it might come shipped with an already decent ROM. I wouldn t like to flash it with an older ROM and see some features/apps disappear... do you see what I mean?
Am I wrong? cause the google entries only show roms from 2008... is there anything newer out there?
SPB is just a today app, u can still use spb after installing new rom.
Belive me, if u install other roms like Energy ROM, it will be faster, smother and better.
After installing new rom just install SPB again.
Even if it looks like its older roms here, it aint.
Hope this answer will help you.
Cheers mate!

I STRONGLY suggest the use of searh feature:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Diamond_Upgrades
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512505
It helps ENORMOUSLY....
And in general - from the posts above I would suggest that you do first some reading. there's a lot of decent FAQ's here, as well as tutorials. Just read for 2 -3 evenings. It will be VERY beneficial to you, I hope.
After all, none of us was simply born with the knowledge.. And all of us had the 1st day with diamond, then some time on this forum, and then a lot of things became self-explanatory...
Good luck!
thanks guys
i read all this info a long time ago, did not upgrade, so I forgot a lot.
But I understand the ideas and the vocabulary
You said 2 things:
- upgrade the HTC site ROM. ok but it is not recognised when I type in my serial number. cause telefonica movistar SPN is a bit annoying for this.
as far as i remeber my readings, this would be solved when hardspl and ROM flashed.
- the numbers taht appear on the table, do not correspond to mines. So I guess this means I should get one of those, and try to proceed to the upgrade.
Is is worth? (i think it s better to get rid of that annoying logos and themes and crappy heavy processes shipped in the movistar ROM and grab the ENERGY one, or another one like Rhodian (have to read)
Anyway thanks for your answers.
I ll try to flash the ROM. First have to make a backup.
also i might have a dump of the ROM for guarantee purposes, done few months ago
cheers,
Hi,
Because speed is important, My suggestion is BsB ROM Specially Version J.(Windows Mobile 6.5)
Version L is slightly slower (Because of 10mb pp instead of 16mb-not big difference)
I'm using BsB ROM+SPB Mobile shell V3 and it works like a charm.
Good Luck!
When it is about speed, a review "works like a charm" is, how to say, highly subjective
I recommend the benchmark thread by pietrucci - so far this is the only objective test of many diamond roms.. and according to that, 6.5 is not that fast...
Sorry - that's what the benchmarks say...

I agree, but I must say that SPB 3 with a standard rom is a lot faster than any rom with TFLO that I've tested.

Hi,
Thanks for the benchmark, but i have to say :
1) Bsb 6.5 ROM isn't in benchmark . i also can't see Energy WM6.5 ROM in this benchmark. These two are fastest available 6.5 ROMs for diamond (in my opinion)
2) in my personal experience, spb mobile shell 3 on Bsb ROM, is faster than any Other 6.5 or 6.1 ROM.(specially if you change pp to 16mb-default is 10).
3)I think Bsb ROM is Quick because of Excellent Memory Management. with Mobile shell 3 running, i have more than 50MB free Memory after Boot(pp=10MB) and without SPB More than 61MB.
Give it a try, i'm sure that you won't be disappointed.
Good Luck!
OK, you may be right, but still, in order to say "is fast" you need to compare it to hard data. If you want to bother you should install SPB Benchmark and run it on this ant that rom, and ONLY then you will really see.
Having said that, at the end it doesn't really matter. What matter's is user comfort/feeling
And about memory - so you say "i have more than 50MB free Memory after Boot(pp=10MB) and without SPB More than 61MB." hmmm. In my configured rom (including extra apps like lumos, keyboard switcher, etc) after reset I have 56MB free. Without TF3d 64MB. So... this is rather standard for me Nothing special here...
But ultimately it comes to personal preference. I like Nataly, because there is kitchen and I can "trim" the ROM to my personal taste. Of course, the speed and LOTS of memory doesn't hurt...

I agree that it comes to personal preference Completely.
SPB benchmark Results : (first after a full day working , second after soft reset)on BSB6.5L + SPB Mobile Shell 3 Running
Keep it in mind that Nataly is WM6.1 and BsB is WM6.5.
1)
Spb Benchmark index 741.55
CPU index 1766.19
File system index 344.06
Graphics index 3551.07
2)
Spb Benchmark index 765.9
CPU index 1776.53
File system index 359.16
Graphics index 3336.17
I also attached XML Result Files.
Good Luck!

Is the hermes powerful enough to run WM 6.5?

I've tried a few versions and the phone just crawls. Is the phone even able to run WM 6.5 at a decent speed or should I just give up and stick with 6.1.
Thanks!
Are there any vanilla 6.5 roms I can try on the Hermes?
Try Tai_SW's Hero 3... Seems OK to me...

and i'll try the other tai_Sw v27 manila2d rom and it works good for me...
It runs Tai's Herov3 but you will find yourself running out of memory all too quickly. If you want a smooth running phone with as little problems as possible then stick to 6.1.
If a stripped down, barebones 6.5.3 ROM appears I think it will be able to run that o.k.
I've been following with most of the developers here, the last stable 6.5 i can get on my phone was - WP6.5 Build 23016 WWE SAYANGKU V6.9. Anything after that, my phone will freeze.
I have to say, I don't tend to run out of memory with Hero 3... Must be what you do with it.
Also noticed, it doesn't shut down all apps when you kill them, you need to install xbutton or other app killer....
I loved the 6.5 "stock like" ROM that's floating around. I prefer 6.1 because you can use larger PPs though. SNES, ScummVM emulation, CorePlayer and WiFi speeds are superior on a nice 6.1 ROM with a large PP. Depends on what you want to do.
Same issues, went back to 6.1

HTC X-button doesn't work with Hero3. I don't know a close button app that does work because of where the new 'x' button is.
Just using normal stuff like Coreplayer, OperaMini, etc. If I don't use SKTools Free Ram or Oxios I eventually, after a day or so get the 'out of memory' normally when starting the Comm Mananger.
If I want run IGO8 I have disable the today screen and then flush the memory on restart, this gives me around 23Mb free.
The new Showcase (search in the forums here) works for the 6.5.x builds (as a task manager).
is better to use the new xtask
it dont make slow your SMS app
Or the new ArkSwitch, which I prefer .

I see you read very well congrats to you! can you teach all this guys why 6.5 is not so good for our old hermes... pleeeease!!!
dark vision
darkvbisions is the fastest for me i put spb mobile sheel on it at first i thought it was going to crawl like u said but its quite fast, but i install on my starage card
for closing the application you need to use showcase suite, it's the only one that work for me
wm 6.5 is very slow with hermes. memory issues freeze the phone a lot. i looking for decent stable 6.1 now
go for a 6.1 or 6 default rom and install spb mobile shell v3.0.1 on it.
