I tried to get on the site here most of the weekend and couldn't... was it offline? That scared me to think "what would I do without XDA!?!?" lol.... glad to see it back up...
Same problem here
Hi there
i had the same problem till yesterday (Monday 5/19/08) afternoon. Maybe it dosen't has to do something with the site, maybe it just was an routing isssue (not the first one in the last months, is the internet breaking apart or are the carriers going down?).
But the only thing that counts, is that the site is reachable again.
Just my 2 cents
Greetz from the testlab....
Same here with me. I was trying to get the .lnks page so i could configure UL a little more and was freaking out... what was i to do? so i used google then used the cached pages... at least it worked... i had my daily fix...
one thing i've been curious about and haven't seen a thing on in any of the numerous impression/review articles i've read is a note on the the speed of the handset's boot up time.
i've got a droid now, and i absolutely hate how long it takes to transition from powered-off to operational. i go off and do something else, and it takes long enough where i've forgotten about it by the time it turns fully on.
so how long is the EVO's?
Probably because almost everybody leaves their phone on...and don't care how long it takes really...
1 minute or 5 minutes really don't bother most people including me, so thats why it isn't really said in reviews.
I think I saw somewhere where they said it was kind of long. I assume because of the startup animations. I don't know anything about rooting but from what i've gathered you might be able to disable some of those.

ok?
...and your point posting in this thread was? i don't care how many people leave their phone on, or the time frame that a phone needs to turn on in so not to bother people; i was asking how long the EVO takes to boot up. so thanks a lot.
In answer to your question... fast! Most boots seem to take about 20 to 30 seconds for me but one boot did take a minute. Regardless, it's faster than any Sense phone I have ever seen. throw AOSP on here and it should boot even faster.
awesome - appreciate the answer.
and yeah, i could imagine it powering up a bit faster with some tuning from xda.
I seen one IO user say his boot time on the Evo was less than a minute but I assume it also is a bare, non-custom, no extra apps device.
Boot time is definitely less than a minute, I'm using the HelixLauncher2 so everything comes up real fast after boot.
It's night and day compared to my old Hero.
I was just going to ask about this...
From fully OFF to the second I can see my lock screen(note, not fully operational yet, but can see the lockscreen), takes 1 minute and 20 seconds. Thats running Fresh 3.3 with whatever kernel comes with that Rom. A kid I go to school with, he has the same rom and kernel, his boots up to fully operational in about 45 seconds.
Just wondering if I can shorten that somehow.
Also, wondering if music and pictures have anything to do with it? Having to load all of that from the sd card might cause the delay?

Mine takes around....a minute and a half. This is with a 32GB microSD card, Apps2SD (with virtually every app I use, including most of the stock apps installed on my microSD, and dalvik on the cache partition.)

My name is John (not really)... and I have a problem
I am a flashaholic....
Ok, but seriously, I would flash a different ROM every couple of hours if I could... but I've seen some people saying that it takes the phone a certain amount of time to "get used to" a new ROM/kernel....
So my question is this... If I flash a ROM and learn that there is something that I really cant live with.. battery life, UI, anything... how long should I give it in order to really know how it will be on my phone?... And yeah, I understand that there's not an actual number like "Wait 37.9 hours".. but can some of those people that talk about their phone gettin used to a ROM elucidate?\
And in the mean time.. I think I'll give CM7 a try...
I would say give it 37.9 hours. Any less than that and you don't give the ROM enough time to cozy up with your phone and if you wait any longer you run the risk of causing a nuclear holocaust.

Has anyone told you that you're awesome today? cuz you are lol
Seriously, just wait 24 hours. After a reboot or 2, it'll settle. It also may be laggy at first, as it gets used to it.

You would be the first. For that, I tip my hat to you.
thanks, guys... you've been extremely helpful... really
nybdy else have a real answer... so as to help me avoid causing a nuclear holocaust?
Once all your apps are installed, synced, rebooted, and you've gone a full battery cycle or three. It should be as settled in as its gonna get.
Swyped from a galaxy far far away......
thanks....
So i've posted this before in the emergency help thread. Though i don't think anyone has seen it, so i thought i may as well make a new thread about it. I'm sorry if this breaks any rules. I'm not too sure if it does. But this is an exact copy of what i previously posted on that thread.

So i just went on a trip for about 4 days. On departure, i was connected perfectly well on my usual wind network, and data lasted until i was well away from every cell tower in the area. Wifi was working fine in the house, and the hotel. As well as my sd card, which was easily being read from, and i had no trouble playing movies from it either. On the drive back, the first thing that started acting weird was the sd. It wouldnt recognize it even though it was plugged in, every once in a while, it would, and it would say i had only 800 mb's or so left. While it was a 32 gb drive, and i had only used 16gb of it. I turned off my phone, removed the sd card, then turned it back on, and then plugged it back in. And it worked fine for a while. So i transferred all the data from the sd card onto my computer and then in about an hour, it stopped working again. Not only that though,i noticed that it would take forever to turn wifi on, and sometimes it wouldn't even work. And finally when i came in range of my usual cell towers, i did not recieve any connection at all. I checked the status of the phone, and no network was found, the imei was 0, and it would not load the cell broadcasts page on my settings. After ariving at home, i turned the wifi back on, and after a while, i connected, and updated to the newest version of cyanogenmod. The 10.1.0 stable release. And i still got these aforementioned problems. This is really scaring me, especially since i have no warranty, and it has lasted this long so far. Plus it is a hell of an expensive phone. I would really really appreciate all the help i could get. And im sorry if it's a really stupid answer. Thanks so much.
And for details:
Rom: Cyanogenmod d2tmo(though i am on wind) 10.1.0
kernel: Default kernel, haven't messed with that
I have both llama and tasker uninstalled atm, just to see if that is the problem. The sim is still inside, as well as the sd. Thanks agan.
Ive already answered in the other thread. Just some friendly advice though. Be patient. Only in the early evening can you expect quick responses here. People WILL see what you post and IF they know how to help they will.
You just have to wait for someone who can help to come across it. Putting it in its own thread after posting in another will only serve confusion as some might respond here and others there. Its better to put it in one spot and if more people help they won't be telling you things to try that have already been done via responses to your other post.
Aside from me and sometimes a few others you won't get much response this late and will have to just be patient. Sometimes you have to wait till after lunch the next day. But someone will answer you.

I'm sorry, that's my bad. I was just insanely worried and didn't realize the time at which i posted the reply on the thread. Ill delete this one if i can. Thank you for your response though
AT&T has done pissed me off. First year and a half of my contact I used a T-mobile note 3. Did all my root/rom/kernel fun and didn't think twice about it. Broke it and bought an actual AT&T note 5 and I went straight home to root it............been bummed ever since. The forums are dead and there is nothing to talk about, flash, modify or fix. I haven't missed a bootloop from flashing a unstable kernel so much in my life. I'm just bored..........and if you do the math, my contact is up, I just need to finish paying off the note 5 before I move on.........thing wasn't cheap so it will still be a few months...........and I will still need to buy a new phone with sprint/T-mobile. See!!!!! This is why I am over AT&T. I just want to tinker with my phone and it will cost me a crap ton of money to get the phone I want, on a carrier that let's me actually own my damn phone!!!!! AAAAAAGGGGGGGGG!!!!!! Okay, I feel better, not good but better.
If I actually had time I would try but now I'm married with a 1 year old and work 6 to 7 days week, back when I was single I would have sleepless nights working on roms and finding exploits, I will eventually get around to unlocking this bootloader, just have to wait till work flow slows down.

It's going to take some9ne very special to untether root the note 5. There is root but it sucks and you can't let your phone die and its super laggy and dies fast. We tired and we just can't get anything with our skills.
