I use Youmail for my voicemail. I can't seem to set the voicemail speed dial key to use youmail's access number and get it to stick after a soft reset. I go to the Phone Settings, choose Services, then "Voice Mail and Text Messages". The phone then says it is reading the settings from the network and displays T-Mobile's voicemail access number under the "Voice Mail:" field. I change this to youmail's number, and click ok. The phone then says it's sending the information to the network. At this point the voicemail speed dial key correctly dials youmail's access number as long as I don't reset my phone.
Does anyone know how to make this setting stick?
Every ROM I've tried has this problem. I never tried doing this on the stock ROM, so I don't know if it's a problem with the custom ROMs or a T-Mobile problem.

Does anybody know where the settings are stored that "tell" the Voicemail button innotifications which number to dial?
Whenever you get voicemail, you get a notification that pops up with an option to call voicemail. On my phone, however, the standard voicemail setup in Settings/Phone does NOT store commas so you cannot have one-click access to voicemail. In fact, when setting up the standard voicemail, you can type the comma, but when you exit and come back in, the comma is automatically deleted, so it doesn't work. So, I had to setup a contact entitled Voicemail and inserted the voicemail telephone number, comma, password and # there. Commas are retained in contact phone numbers, so I call that contact, I indeed get one-click access. I also made that contact Speed Dial 2.
What I want to be able to do is alter the settings for the Voicemail option in notifications so that instead of dialing the via the Settings/Phone setup it will either:
a) dial the contact
b) dial speed dial 2
or
c) allow me to directly enter what I want in the configuration for that option.
Even if I have to edit the Registry, I have no problem. I just don't know where that info is stored.
Anybody got any ideas?
TIA
Does V not allow you to check your voicemail from your phone without the password? I'm with Sprint, and when calling voicemail from my device it doesn't ask, but when calling from another phone it will.

traditionally it is stored in speed dial position 1 so you can press and hold 1 to call voicemail. I know you can edit it on AT&T phones might be able to on Verizon too.

No Verizon requires you to enter a password even if you call from your cell phone.

Yes, while the default is Speed Dial 1, that is NOT what I'm looking for because, as I stated above, commas cannot be maintained withing the standard voicemail setup location. Thus, when you press "voicemail" when prompted for messages, you end up having to type your password.
I am looking for a way to "remap" that Voicemail option on notifications.
On AT&T it is P for pause not comma's have you tried that?
Or you could install PhoneAlarm it allows you to change your voicemail number.

That was the ticket! Thanks so much for the tip!
I seem to have deleted my voicemail number off of my sim card. I can go into settings and add a voicemail number but if I try to I get a message like "unable to change voicemail number. If the problem persists contact your carrier." On top of that I don't want it set to my cell number because then I will have to enter my password everytime which I don't want to do. It was set to something else before. Is contacting T-mobile my only option or is there a way to retrieve and set the voicemail number again?
I set my cell phone number as the VM number but it never asks me for a password... Try it from your cell and see if you have any luck. If not, you will probably have to contact the provider.
I've always been able to just dial 123.. never prompts me for a pw.
I have been a t-mo customer for a looooong time though so I don't know if this is just something that has trickled down over the years.
if you are tmobile US the vm number is 8056377243.
that is the same number everyone on the american network has.
but what I'm wondering is, Why didn't you just call customer service? Or better yet GOOGLE it? I know it's a crazy concept but sometimes you have to think outside the box ey?
I'm having issues getting Google Voice running on my new phone. I had it running on a G2x just fine. Everytime I get to the stage where it syas it will configure voicemail to use Google Voice it comes back with com.android.phone has stopped.
So far as I can tell it's failing to configure voicemail, however unlike my G2x I can't find the voicemail number setting under the phone settings to see what it is set to. I don't know if this is a GSIII thing or something to do with ICS.
Anyone else run into problems configuring google voice?
Restart then try launching voice again.it went away for me. The problem I have now is that I cannot get the old voicemail icon to clear.

You just have to change the forwarding calls number to your Google Voice number. That should be all that needs to be done.

I had this problem too. You can change the forwarding numbers in the call settings or go to the Google voice web page and activite voicemail on the device.
This is what fixed it for me

Thanks guys. I've visited the voice web page and got the number there to input on the device. Hopefully that'll do it.
Clearing old VoiceMail Icon
Disable WiFi Calling
De-Activate Voice on Website from Desktop
Uninstall "Google Voice"
Open "Phone" - where you dial out to make calls
Press "Menu" and then "Call Settings"
Change Voicemail Setting to "Carrier"
Enter "Call Forwarding" Options
Leave the First Option Disabled
Disable the last Option, it will reset to your carrier's voicemail number
Make sure the 2-4 options all have your carrier's voicemail number.
Restart phone.
Call it from another phone and leave a voicemail.
Listen to and delete the new voicemail you just left.
Voicemail Icon cleared.
Now you should be able to setup Voice properly.
*NOTE*
Call Forwarding cannot be changed while WiFi calling is active.
Hope this helps.
Thanks
Thank you so much! That worked perfectly!
It appears that T-Mobile locks down the Voicemail settings (where you can configure the direct dial number for voicemail). GV fails to change that when installing the "Google Voice" Voicemail service.
So far's I can tell on my Amaze is this is the number dialed when you hold down "1" or call "123."
T-Mo reps told me this is a third party app problem, when I told them it was Google Voice, the reps said "Call HTC, it's a hardware issue." HTC's technical support had a good laugh at that. T-Mobile's reps are full of it; they just don't like changing the number.
Hi all, I've been asking around on AC forums and haven't got an answer yet, but going to see if tomorrow I can get to an ATT store for tech help. No help on the phone at all, just 3 different Tech reps going over the same thing again and again, with no result. Tried third party apps Google Voice and Youmail, can't even get the access codes to go through. The phone seems to be having errors, because it's looking for the Verizon Voicemail and even though I was able to set speed dial #2 for dialing ATT's Voicemail service, all I get is Missed Call notifications. Not every missed call leaves a voicemail, so would like some sort of Notification to alert me to my voicemails. Need this feature a lot. When I dial the access codes or even try changing to the ATT voicemail their Way with Holding down "1" , all i get is Call can't be completed and an error code. Also a message at the top of keypad screen saying No Sim, Sim Error. To me it seems like it's trying to dial the Verizon number, and it can't because of being on ATT. Has anyone had this problem?
Does anybody know a workaround. I was able to get google voice forwarded to my cell phone number, but doesn't still give a notification. I do get emails sent, even though send a text is clicked on Google Voicemail. Also spent time with their tech support with no help there. Notifications is Set and I have an alert for it on the Phone's Voicemail setting, so that's not working either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
You can set att voicemail to speed dial 1. I don't know the number. I just downloaded att visual voicemail app and got it to work. In order to set voicemail you need to go to settings>aplications>call>voicemail settings. Then input the number you're trying to use. It will save it as speed dial #1
I have a T-mobile T889v unlocked and on AT&T LTE rooted with DN4, everything is working great for the most part but voice mail. When I dial VM it keeps saying password not recognized. I've been searching threads to address this with no luck. I went to device settings and under my number it shows unknown... is this why VM does not recognize my password? If so how do I change it show it shows my number? Thanks for any help....

I wonder, since you've got a different carrier than the phone, if it is dialing the wrong number. From what I understand, you're have AT&T as your wireless provider, right? When I tried looking at AT&T's support forums, it shows to dial your number to access your voice mail. So, when you press and hold 1 to speed dial your voice mail, is it dialing your number? If it's not your number, first try dialing your number manually and see if your password works that way.
Now, I don't have DN4 so I'm not sure what kind of settings you'll have. For me, I use Team UB's Lollipop release and I can open my dialer, go to settings, and there is a "Call Settings" menu where I can change the number it dials for Voice mail. It's gotta be somewhere in the dialer settings, I assume.
I hope this helps.
All you need is your Carriers Voicemail number and place it in the Call Settings.
