SIM Card Voicemail Number - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I seem to have deleted my voicemail number off of my sim card. I can go into settings and add a voicemail number but if I try to I get a message like "unable to change voicemail number. If the problem persists contact your carrier." On top of that I don't want it set to my cell number because then I will have to enter my password everytime which I don't want to do. It was set to something else before. Is contacting T-mobile my only option or is there a way to retrieve and set the voicemail number again?

I set my cell phone number as the VM number but it never asks me for a password... Try it from your cell and see if you have any luck. If not, you will probably have to contact the provider.

I've always been able to just dial 123.. never prompts me for a pw.
I have been a t-mo customer for a looooong time though so I don't know if this is just something that has trickled down over the years.

if you are tmobile US the vm number is 8056377243.
that is the same number everyone on the american network has.
but what I'm wondering is, Why didn't you just call customer service? Or better yet GOOGLE it? I know it's a crazy concept but sometimes you have to think outside the box ey?

How to setup the voicemail with AT&T?

my VM does not function when someone calls my number. When called the systems askes for the 9 diget number to ID the box. When entered the system tells me it can not find the VM box.
I'm using Non-ATT stock ROM. It was working with ATT original ROM.
Anybody has the same problem? or know how to fix it?
I had this and called AT&T and they fixed it.... I went from Iphone to the tilt 2 and I think they still had it as Visual voicemail and they needed to reset it.
Go into phone options, then click around until you see TTY, voicemail and tex, call forwarding, etc. Highlight voicemail and text and click get, etc.
It will connect to ATT and pop up the numbers. You then enter in the correct number.
To get the correc #, you need to call ATT or check a few peoples phone that is in your city, and with ATT and see what they have.
^ good call tatung70, thanks.

[Q] Wrong Phone Identity & Voicemail Number.

I'm noticing 3 strange things:
1) when I go to Settings > About Phone > Phone Identity, my "Phone Number" field shows a different number then mine. They're both in the same area code but it's not mine. I can't edit this.
2) In the Settings > Call > Voicemail Settings, that same wrong phone number shows up. This one I can edit but even then it leads to #3.
3) The voicemail dials the wrong number listed even though I changed the voicemail number. I also receive from time a popup saying that voicemail activation was delayed (or something to that effect). When I do receive voicemails, I receive a text message asking to call a number to retrieve it. Doing so prompts me to enable the service if my phone doesn't have voicemail or something like that. Turned it on and now I can get my voicemail by calling that number.
I should also state that this very same problem happened when I originally got my Evo and I spent about 2-3 hours at the Sprint store talking to one of their tech support on the phone to fix it. But I don't recall having to do anything on my end; it was all the tech supports doing but don't know what.
This has now happened since I rooted and flashed Fresh Evo 3.3. I'm guessing the wiping data/cache removed something that had been fixed?
Hope someone can give me a hand. It'd be much appreciated else I gotta go back and spend 2-3 hours with tech support again. :/
Get your MSL using the MSL tool in the market.
go to the dialer and do a ##786#, do a factory reset(what ever its called in there), its going to ask you for your password, put in the MSL. The phone will do a complete data wipe and reboot. On reboot it will do a complete provision with Sprint.
May work, may not. If not, back to Sprint store.

[EDIT: I just figured it out. Hit Menu and then Reset at which point it prompts for the MSL code]
Got the MSL, went to phone and dialed ##786# at which point it says "Retrieving Settings" and brings up the "Reverse Logistics Support" screen. Is this the screen you were referring to? I ask because it did not ask for the MSL password nor did a wipe. Of interest though, I do see an entry for Mobile Number and another one that looks like a cell number but is different then the other; the field is called MSID.

Your MSID can be a totally different number than your cell number, mine is. Mine ended up this way when i ported my number off ATT and it has been this way through 4 different phones.
Just the wipe and it went through hands free activation and PRL & Firmware update checks. Unfortunately, the phone identify still shows the wrong number.
So... guess it's of to sprint store?

Why I wonder if this is not as a result of porting from AT&T as well. Man I really wish I knew what that tech support had done to resolve the issue.

[Q] Problem with Receiving/Retrieving Voicemail on GSM GNex Using AT&T

***** FIXED ***** CALLED AT&T TO RESET VOICEMAIL ***** PLEASE REMOVE THREAD *****
I am using a stock GSM GNex, unrooted, and I noticed, when I receive calls, the caller does not go to voicemail and when I attempt to check voicemail, I am told that I do not have a voicemail box. This is a new problem, because before, I had voicemail and I set it up using AT&T. When I long press the number "1" on the dial pad I get a recording that says to enter the phone number of the party you are trying to reach. I enter my phone number and it says that the number is not listed. I can receive and make calls to anyone no problem, but voicemail all of a sudden stopped working. I went into the phone settings and checked the phone number listed as my voicemail number, it is not the same as my regular phone number, so I changed it to my number and I was getting a busy signal when I tried to check my voicemail after that. Any ideas??? I don't think calling AT&T will do me any good as they think I am using a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket. Please help, I need to get voicemails if I don't get to the phone in time!!
Thanks
I'm not sure how to fix your problem but, have you tried google voice as your voicemail client? Maybe you can use that instead.
To be honest I want to fix the issue and I don't want to use Google Voice. When I did a search before posting this I read a lot of people were using that service, but I want to get the real problem fixed. Thanks though.
Does anyone think the problem could be because I have a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket as my main phone on my plan, and that phone uses visual voicemail? And somehow now the phone won't activate voicemail because of that? When I dial my number and call myself, I get a busy tone.
1) Your VM number is either incorrectly programmed into the phone, or whoever set up your account didn't provision you with the VM feature. Call your carrier, they can verify with you whether your phone is correct or it's their system. No one on XDA can't help you with a shortcut.
2) Get Google Voice. Carrier VM systems are utter crap by comparison. That is the "real" solution to your "real problem".
The voicemail number is the same as it was when I set it up the first time. BTW, using Google Voice is not the "real" solution to my "real problem". If you don't know the answer to the question or you think no one else here will, you don't have to emphasize your love of Google Voice, I just don't want to use it so I am trying to figure out how to fix it. Thank you.
Oh, and maybe you should change your user name if you hate AT&T so much.

Disabling voicemail checking or notifications

I have a G2 running Andromadus. Additionally the service I have on the device is data only through T-Mobile US. At some point I believe T-Mobile, through an automated process, left me a voicemail to remind me to pay my bill. I've had a voicemail notification pop up over and over again for the past two months.
Since I don't have voice service on this SIM card, I can't actually call up 123 or the default provided voicemail number to check/delete the message. I tried doing a voicemail reset by dialing #793#, but that returns back with a service being unavailable error. Additionally calling the number attached to my SIM card just continuously rings. Dialing the check voicemail number assigned on the SIM card and giving that service my SIM card's number just returns with an error saying my number doesn't have a voicemail box.
I've called up T-Mobile support, their response was that my number has no voicemail box provisioned to it, end of story.
So I'm basically looking for any way of getting rid of the voicemail notification the pops up every 15 minutes. Either by some how disabling whatever polls for voicemails or simply disabling the notification bit. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Google Voice Not Working on AT&T

Hello fellow Nexus 5Xers,
Just got the 5X and have been getting everything up and running these last few days. Previously, I had the old Nexus 5 on AT&T and am getting things set up on the new phone, also with AT&T. My goal is to try to get Google Voice VM set up.
I went through the normal voicemail set up on the Google Voice app, but noticed that I was not getting voicemails when people called. I tried calling my number on another line and got the "This number is out of order error message". I called AT&T and got set up with a carrier VM just to make sure I had something that worked.
I went back to the Google voice settings page on the website and re-registered my phone and tried to run the code that would forward calls to my Google Voice number. When I entered the code, it says "MMI Code started" and then comes back with "Call forwarding Connection problem or invalid MMI code".
I then tried re-doing set up on the Google Voice App on Android and still no luck. Then I tried setting up a conditional forwarding in the settings menu of the Phone under "Calls>Call Forwarding" to my google voice number and I get a "Call settings error, Unexepcted response from network".
Anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas on what to do to get Google Voice VM set up?
I'm getting the same exact problem and also on ATT. Can't seem to figure out what the issue is...
Works fine here just check on computer to forward calls use your at&t number
Try putting your SIM in another phone in order to issue the conditional call forwarding command, then put it back in the 5X. This is a network dependent feature which should continue to be in force until you cancel it (regardless of which phone you are using).

Thanks for the reply, TLopez. Are you using AT&T? When I go on my account page for AT&T, it says you have to enter a set of codes on the phone to set it up and can't set it up on-line.

I am in the same boat as you. As far as I can tell the problem is with the way AT&T configured the account when we swapped SIM's. (Since you went from a Nexus 5 to the 5X, I'm assuming that you had AT&T give you a new Nano-SIM to replace the Micro-SIM that was in your 5).
From what I have been able to piece together all Smart Phone Voicemail accounts being provisioned now by AT&T are setup with Visual Voicemail and that setup is not allowing the provisional forwarding that Google Voice requires to become the Voicemail provider for the number.
When I look on my 5X under Dialer App -> Menu -> Settings -> Calls -> Call Forwarding
the Settings for "When busy", "When unanswered ", & "When unavailable" are "Off", "Off", & "Disabled".
When I look at these setting on an AT&T phone that was provisioned a few years ago, those setting show the AT&T voicemail access number.
I've talked to three different CSR's on the business account line and they had no useful information.
Same issue
I am also having the same issue. I switched from Nexus 4 to Nexus 5X and it seems AT&T network is not allowing call forwarding to be enabled.
Here is what I have tried but still now fix:
1.) Uninstall and reinstall Google Voice app.
2.) Uninstall, reboot, and reinstall Goofle Voice app.
3.) Deactivate and reactivate using instructions on voice.google.com
4.) Try programming forwarding number under Call Settings menu.
5.) Talk to AT&T chat support. No luck...insist the phone is unsupported on network data protocols or some other BS.
Any information would be helpful.
I remember from the past that even if att set has errors on the phone, that it worked anyway. I have been using gv since the nexus one and it was sketchy back then. I havent' had any problems for a couple years. The new sim might F it up. But it works for me. I have been involved in many GV threads in the past. It might help to read some of those. The web interface GV is the key. It has mostly to do with the settings on your end, not att. They don't know **** all anyway.
I'm going to search and see what I can find. I have used GV and att exclusively since 2010, and It's never really failed.
To be clear, I'm using a 5x with an Att SIM, I do not have GV installed on the N5X and things work normally, both GV # and SIM associated att # both go to GV VM and Notifications come through hangouts and both numbers ring the handset.
post here for Q's about web interface. I never touched the n5x voicemail settings. on the handset. it just worked from the beginning.

But you didn't change SIMs when you moved to your 5X, correct?
That has been my experience with GV and new phones in the past. As long as the account was configured correctly on the previous phone, there was nothing that needed to be done on the new phone, since all the conditional forwarding was already setup on the network side.
yes, correct. I was just trying to say that it's possible and you don't need to call att to make it happen. Under my forwarding menu
always forward =off
when busy, unanswered, unreachable = my gv #

Yea, if I go into that menu and try to change the values it just returns an error, I am not able to change the values from "off" and "disabled". And even with those showing "off" and "disabled" AT&T's voicemail works correctly.
what about voicemail setting? I have "your carrier" not gv.

I have tried both setting, it makes no difference.
I even have had AT&T turn off VM on the network side, that didn't help at all.
At this point I'm not sure if "Conditional forwarding" is not available on newly provisioned lines or that the Nexus 5X doesn't have the tools to setup conditional forwarding.
I have a SIM adapter on order, when that comes in I will try to do the GV configuration on my old HTC M7 to see if that makes any difference. I don't really think that it will, but it sounds like a less frustrating step than calling into AT&T repeatedly until I happen across a CSR that knows how to setup conditional forwarding on the network side. (Or that knows conclusively that it is not possible on new SIM activations.)
read this page. it's something easy, it has to be. I have set up other people on gv with the same phones. Never had a problem but its in the details.
I do wish you good luck.

So yes, in this case, I can't seem to add my Google Voice number to those fields. When I go in, all fields are "off" and if I try to input my GV number for any of them, I get an error that states "Unexpected response from network"
Even if I try to input another number altogether, i.e. my home or work number, I get the same response.
I was having this same issue with my Nexus 5X using a new At&t nano sim. To resolve it, I had to call and speak with Customer Service. I explained that I wanted to setup Conditional Call Forwarding for all three conditions (busy, unreachable, unanswered) and they were able make the changes. I checked the Call Forwarding Settings screen immediately after hanging up and confirmed the correct Forwarding # was in place.

I have changed phones between iOS and Android several times, never had issues with GV until my first Nexus (which is the 5x). The MMI codes that GV gives would not work, and from the call screen, if i clicked on the (...) in the top right corner i could go to 'settings', but it still wouln't take my GV number.
I spent 2 hours with ATT, she was very very helpful and got "advanced support" to help. Eventually, ATT changed all 3 of my "conditional call forwarding" to my GV number, but it still went to my ATT voicemail. ATT lady started to conference Google in for help. I had to leave the call, but several hours later i started getting VM thru GV. I'm not sure if the conditional call forwarding numbers just needed time to activate across the network (ATT Lady said that it didn't), or if when she spoke to Google they figured something out.
Good luck everyone. The problem is resolvable with ATT help, I wish I had more details to provide.
I just called my 5X and I got my GV message for when a call is missed. I am coming from a Moto X 2014 that had GV setup as the VM and all I did was move my sim from that phone to the 5X. Not that this helps anyone with a problem, but figured I would chime in on my scenario that does work.
I was having same issue... Seems the only way to resolve is to contact Att. The CSR I spoke with on chat was very knowledgeable of this issue and resolved it in less than 5 minutes. Even still... It's an unnecessary inconvenience
I've had this issue in the past, it randomly started happening on my prior M8. Nothing worked...no MMI codes, online meetings, manual call forward numbers, nothing...I ended up getting it resolved by having ATT advanced technical support manually edit the forwarding scenarios and numbers on the back end. Even they were confused as to why it was happening, and I had to get to the second level of advanced support before the technician had the correct access rights to edit the numbers. This was back in July-ish, and they had been apparently going through some significant "non-cystomer-facing" changes to their backbend VM systems.. All GV working fine for me asof now, and I'm still using the same Nano-SIM card on my 5X that cane from that M8.
