the three things missing in uni were
1)external screen
2)quad band gsm radio
3)more ram
the 7150 corrects this and is in my opinion a logical upgrade
I do not see the external buttons for the phone command on this imate???!!!
too boxy for my liking, and the universal can be upgraded

can you elaborate on that???
i am yet to see a uni. with more than 64mb ram, quad band gsm and an external screen
upgraded in the sense of software, there's xda-developers and a great team of unofficial developers
i don't think i'm gonna replace my universal but if had the $, i'd buy the 9150
true sucessor
IMHO there are only two phones that could truly replace the thc universal:
1.) Samsung G900
2.) HTC Omni
The Specs are damn juicy, they faster and smaller than the HTC Universal and they have WVGA (800x600)

1) its toshiba g900
wvga is 800x400
but in my limited experience with uni i can tell you that it is very hard to find software that supports vga...so you can imagine how bad the support for wvga would be...

wrong again, according to the spec wvga comes in the following flawors:
720 x 400 (18:10),
800 x 480 (15:9),
848 x 480 (<16:9),
852 x 480 (>16:9)
864 x 480 (18:5)
Anyway both the toshiba g900 (yeah, not samsung ) and the HTC Omni come with a wvga (800x480) screen.
I don't know what apps you need/use but all apps that I need do support vga/wvga (such as MS Mobile Office, Mobile Opera, Acrobat Reader, NewsGator Go, Total Commander Mobile, Live Messenger ...)
let the sh*tstorm begin
look, I aint a bigger knower of things... but quite frankly- as of this moment the 7150 looks like a prime case of vaporware.
take a look....
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=721
It was slated for a April launch... now it's June release...
No working models reviewed, 3 month after announcement...
Only pictures out are the same screen, with 11:13 inside and 13:36 on external
this gives me bad flashbacks of the Moto MPx (true collectors piece now )
opinions?
(please prove me wrong!!!)
toshiba g900 has a small screen (3") and 64mb ram. hardly a successor!
this looks interesting, although its probably huge and will cost insane amount of money.

Is there any info about this? will wm7 be compatible with our devices?
Probably not. HTC never released WM 6.1 for the original Touch.
im sure we will get it

Have you seen any device that is compatible? Have you seen minimum requirements? All that is known about WM7 are some screenshots and some basic features.
So until it is released noone knows if any current device will be compatible.
What an useless thread.

there was a video a while back with wm7 running on the Touch Duel
video link
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/05/11/new-windows-mobile-peeped-in-microsoft-live-mesh-video/
so this obviously means it is compatible on HTC DIAMOND TOO
(considering its not as powerful as the diamond)
Why wouldn't wm7 be compatible? Maybe slower, if wm7 is heavier, but I'm rather sure it would run... even if some features (like multi-touch screen) are not working.
WM7 Chassis 1 Specification
Core requirements:
Processor: ARM v6+, L2 Cache, VFP, Open GL ES 2.0 graphics HW (QCOM 8k, Nvidia AP15/16* and TI 3430 all meet spec)
Memory: 256MB+ DRAM, 1G+ Flash (at least 512MB fast flash – 5MB/s unbuffered read @4K block size)
Display: WVGA (800×480) or FWVGA (854×480) 3.5” or greater diagonal
Touch: Multi-touch required
Battery: Sufficient to meet Days of Use LTK requirements.
Controls: Start, Back, Send and End are required (soft controls allowed as long as they are always present).
Peripherals:
Camera: 3MP+, flash optional, 2nd camera optional (VGA resolution sufficient)
GPS: aGPS required
Sensors required: Light Sensor, Compass (3 axis, 5 degrees, 100 Hz sample rate), Accelerometer (3 axis, 2mg resolution, 100 Hz sample rate)
USB: High speed required, 20 MB/s transfer rate.
BlueTooth: BT2.1 required, must run MSFT BT stack, CSR BlueCore6 or later recommended.
Wi-Fi: 802.11B/G required, must run MSFT Native Wi-Fi stack, Atheros 6002 or Broadcomm 4325 recommended.
Connectors: Micro USB and 3.5mm Audio required.
Options:
FM tuner: If tuner HW is present it will be detected and supported by the Media application.
Haptics
SD Card (Micro SD recommended)
DPAD, qwerty or 12/20 key keyboards all optional
As I can read, this won't be compatible with our Diamond due to HW limitations...

Hope next year would be an interesting cooking year

no lol, its running exactly same as before???
i also tried need for speed last night...runs flawlessly...not sure if it shouldnt on standard tp2???
Personally I noticed some lag/slow down in the "Hard" stages in Xtrackt. So you might wants to check on those. The normal (first five) work smoothly and flawlessly from what I saw.
There are other 3D games like prince of persia 3D HD but I haven´t tried them so I don´t know how threy handle with or without the 3D drivers.
Good luck and I hope you´ll report your findings.
Just tried Prince of Persia HD...
For a so called "HD" game the graphics are terrible IMO...
Xtrakt has superior graphics, as does Need for Speed Underground, all 3 seem to run flawlessly.
I think im expecting way too much, im expecting similar graphics to the PSP...Which will probably never happen lol...
Well, remember that no matter how good the graphics drivers the game shouldn't be any better than it was designed to originally be. Also Xtrakt was for the SE X1, meaning that it might have been optimized for the processor anyways.
How about FPSCE, the playstation emulator. It seems it doesn't run full speed on many games. Maybe the drivers will help a bit with it. Otherwise nothing else comes to mind other than things which normally don't work or only test the abilities such as the Quake 3 Arena port (which supposedly only runs at 5fps):
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-quake-3-arena-ce-v1-1b.html
the 3d benchmark tool:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-3d-benchmark-v1-0b.html
and the diamond hologram software floating around here somewhere...
If we're lucky this game engine demoed on the X1 will make it into games that we can actually play:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2yZ...-para-windows-mobile/&feature=player_embedded
Same...

They both have the same processor: Qualcomm MSM7200 @ 528 Mhz, the only difference would be the d rivers implemented by Sony Ericsson.

That's what I meant. As it's a system on a chip if the game was designed to properly access the graphics chip on the x1 then it might run the best it will with or without installing the 3d drivers on the TP2 (and therefore it could be a bad test subject).
When I read Microsoft XNA developer blog:
http://blogs.msdn.com/shawnhar/archive/2010/03/10/xna-game-studio-on-windows-phone.aspx
I came across this text:
The phone features an image scaler which allows games to render to any size backbuffer they like, and have it automatically stretched to fill the display, with black bars along the edges if the backbuffer and display have different aspect ratios (an idea that will be familiar to Xbox developers). This scaling is handled by dedicated hardware, so does not consume any GPU resources, and it uses a high quality image filter that gives much better results than bilinear filtering like you would get if you did this yourself on the GPU.

I would think that hardware image scaler is something new ... and I dont think it is present on current WM device, including HD2. That could mean also the reason why HD2 is not upgradeable to WP7, because it does not have that piece of hardware.
The perfect reason why hd2 wont get upgrade (may be) :
"Microsoft will begin standardizing around the same touch interface with consistent CPU and GPU along with standard RAM configurations."
And gogol your signature a funny one ha ha i liked it.

Probably at the beginning no but I'm more than certain that they will include programmable shaders in future release.
Maybe not 1.1 or not even 1.2 but it will come. Next generation hardware will need that.

What chipset supports this hardware scaler? Seems strange they'd have something as a requirement that doesn't come on any of the current chipsets WP7 is aimed at.

It could be something that the revised (1.3GHz) version of Snapdragon has but the current version doesn't; or I suppose it could be something that isn't part of the standard Qualcomm chipset at all, but which has to be added to all WP7 phones and which effectively sits in between the graphics chip and the display (a bit like a scaler chip built into a desktop monitor); but I have to agree this sounds a little odd.

I like this. It'll make porting XNA games form the Xbox alot easier since you don't have to worrie about changing graphic sizes or the resolution you have it set to.
Thoughts
This is just a thought, perhaps WP7 based hardware will have alot in common with the Zune HD hardware (Video In particular) I may be way off base tho, take it as you will or not.
Cheers

maybe the fpu in the hd2 could be this image scaler?

That will do...I trust XDA devs will get WP7 on the HD2 about 3 wks after the first system dump of a phone made for wp7 is release or thrown around for reviews and one reviewer will leak the sys image / xda dev will get his hands on it / rip it apart / put it back together for the HD2. I trust the xda devs and I really need a new phone bad...T-mobile doesn't have a "Superphone!" (such a funny word) so yeah, i'm gunna by it and put my faith in xda devs and pray wp7 gets hacked and put on the HD2...so in short...it's not gunna have an official update, unless otherwise stated at mix10. if not then xda devs will consider that a challenge before all human race, and they ain't gunna lose!

That's true. I'm affraid the drivers will need a complete rewrite due to new CE core, which would be nearly impossible to do just by reverse engineering...
every windows 7 phone will be running the exact same chipset as the hd2,and the majority of them will be running the same resolution. the drivers will all be in the dumped sys image, also qualcomms snapdragon chipset has the image scaler built on,so the hd2 has that as well

no one tries to port WM7 on blue angel because of hardware incompatibilities !!
minimum requirement of WM7 : ARMv7 processor, the display must support HVGA, as well as memory and etc
Mate, porting WM7 to the BA is like slamming Vista into a 386. It possible, but then again its also possible to jump off a cliff with an umbrella like in Disney movies. You might survive, but they chances are very, very, very slim.
So Froyo it is then...
