Hi,
I just wonder what programs could cause GPRS traffic not really obvious to the user? One of them is definitely the QuickGPS which periodically updates GPS ephemeris information through the internet.
Are there any other programs?
Hello i think that is mutch of time due to the weather on HTC home if you've let the update of weather regulary the phone will connect to the gprs in background to download the update .But some other programs like quick gps is able to connect to get the update ephemeries wich is outdate in each 3days, some antivirus andjava game are also able to connect themselves if there is a permission access.Try to resolve for each program a manual update and i think you'll get a quiet gprs
This program may help you, its called nodata and it allows you to turn gprs on/off whenever you please.

Hi,
Now updated to Activsync 4.5 on my laptop - when I connect the phone via USB it immediately makes a connection to O2 GPRS which obviously I do not want as their data rates are high.
Shall I just install and use the program thats been reported here to disable the auto GPRS connectivity.
I wish the Orbit could just use wifi as the default network connection

Click to collapse
Now that would just lose them money from the people who don't know any better.
A little off subject here - I went with T-Mobile "web n walk" with my calling plan. Unlimited GPRS usage.
What b******t
So are you sugesting he needs to get a head to cure a headache ?
Obviously NOT, unless of course you work for T-Mobile.
I would suggest you check the options on the ActiveSync software to disable the posibility of syncing over the internet, or perhaps as you rightly found, simply try the software to disable GPRS download.
@Longhair - People get in this forum to seek others opinions and not to be taken a mickey off!
Hello,
Does anyone knows how to allow HTC Homeplug Weather to download datas over proxy when you're connected over 3G. This plug is working great for me over wifi but not over 3G connection even if I go trough my personnal tunnel.
So is there a way to change htc.accuweather.com in the HTCHome.dll or how to located this line in the dll.
Thanks for your help.
weather ....
Hello,
I have seen a lot of french people around this forum and I was wondering if some people using the SFR (Vodaphone) network where able to get weather update under 3G network (with wap connection). It's so stupid to have this nice plug and have to add spb weather!
Cheers ;-)
Hi all!
After i updated my unbranded HTC TyTN to WM6 i've noticed that the GPRS (G) icon pops up in the top bar from time to time.
This can happen hours after i last used the phone, If i check for running programs nothing is running. The connection is totally sporadic, i can wake up after 9 hours sleep and find the GPRS connection being "on" for like 5-6 hours.
I don't know if it's sending/recieving anything (don't know where to look for that )
Installed applications (yea, i'm a easy user so only 2 apps)
fit4Cat HTweakC 2.0
TomTom navigator.
Is there any kind of logging program so i can see what program that activates the GPRS connection?
Thank you in advance.
Hello,
when I start my Tomtom6 Navigator my GPRS/3G network go on and I discovery the activation came from the tomtom trafic configuration, I turn of my tomtom trafic and the GPRS/3G network never goes up again.
I hope to have helped
That the task manager isn't showing active apps doesn't mean there aren't any running. Like in desktop windows: its task manager has two different tabs (one with apps, another with active processes). Meaning: The ppc-taskman is only showing apps with a windows
You should look for some traffic monitor. Maybe a today plugin is transferring something?
I have tried a few roms with the wm6 modem link and even installed the wireless modem cab on the official tytn rom but its not being detected on the computer. anyone knows how to make this work? my internet sharing option keeps disconnecting after a few minutes hence this request
The problem with internet sharing is that activesync always starts, causing a drop of the connection.... I found this workarounds working the most time but not always :
When you don´t use push define a fake exchange server, sync all items (it will give an error of cause) then disable all syncing items.
This should prevent async from start!
If you need push like me then try the following:
Disable in active sync setting on both units (PC and PPC) USB connection. Set your exchange sync schedule to manual.
Softreset your device. Go straight to internetsharing. BEFORE!!! you connect to USB start your sharing THEN connect to USB. This works most of the time.
I found the bluetooth PAN connection to be more stable, but it has a significant performance hit when you have HSDPA. For only UMTS,bluetooth has enough bandwith.
Sorry if my english isn´t that good.
Bye
thanks for the advice, i noticed bluetooth did not perform not so well with hsdpa despite stability.
let me try your remedies and will give you feedback and even buy you a beer
Some more advices
Some more advices:
When you use internetsharing disable poweroff and screen blanking. I don`t know how screen blanking interferes with the sharing but i noticed, when the screen gets dark the connevtion got lost. And I use a ttle tool KillAsync on my Hermes. It closes Async for more memory. A last hint: in system-connections-usb to pc enable or disable -depending what is activated- advanced network funktions.
So, now i have no more hints. I tried Usb Modem link too, but got it never working , unfortunately. And i think, a seriell over USB connection like the modem link is to slow for hsdpa.
Looking forward the beer ;-)
Hi there,
I am using my friend's old HTC Touch Pro 2 as my phone decided to jump into a glass of water.
I have set everything up but my apps (facebook, marketplace, ...) don't seem to use my wifi. I have tested this by turning off my 3G connection and trying the apps. They report, that I have to check my internet connection.
Under Wireless controls > Menu > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks there is a choice of what connection should be used for programs that connect to the internet automatically. But as I go further into these settings it only allows changes for the 3G connection. I'm not sure if this is even the correct settings.
Can anyone shed any light on any kind of solution?
Thanks in advance.
In 2015 still no answer - and I have the same probleme on my HTC TOUCH PRO2 (RHODIUM100).
Hopefully there is a genius that can answer this now

In connection manager - did you check if wifi is turned on?
Hi B-44, yes and i have no probleme connecting and surfing the net with opera or IE.
I looked further in to this, so when I go to settings>All Settings>Connections:
In advanced Network I have turned OFF both HSDPA and HSDPA/HSUPA by choosing disable - Don't like extra charges, since I don't have data plan on this number.
In Comm Manager, only Phone and Wi-Fi is ON
In Connections, there is only these options:
Add a new modem connection
Add a new VPN server connection
Set up my proxy server
Still in Connections>Advanced>Select Networks>Network Management> "Programs that automatically connect to the internet should be using:" The options are:
Lebara MMS
Lebara Internet
My Work Network
My ISP
Lebara is my phone company.
- Dailing rules
- Exceptions
-- None that I can see has anything to do with Wi-Fi. Its mostly modem or VPN. I can't add a Wi-Fi connection here unless its something cryptic as setting up an VPN or Proxy server.
Facebook, wAppstore, Windows Live, Youtube, twitter - can't connect.
Opera, IE, Bing, GetJar - can connect without trouble.
I can login to Facebook through Account Manager, but the App installed won't connect to the net.
I'm a bit lost here How is your phone set up?
JBJ
Will take a look.
btw- which system is your Rhodium running with?
WM 6.5 Professional - CE os 5.2.21887 (Build 21887.5.0.86)
I had asked just to be shure...
Now- i don't really have a solution.
As your browsers work using wifi it may be the apps.
On my wm phones i used to install SPB weather.
Some months ago on all of them SPB data update started to fail
and never ever worked again. No matter if on wm5, 6.0 or 6.5.
I couldn't find any hint or solution.
If you search the web "windows mobile facebook supported" you'll find
some entrys which won't please you.
I presume there's no solution to us using wm.
Hi again, actually I'm not so concerned about FB since I hardly use it - its more the other apps that concerns me. Like the Wappstore, Omarket, and so on, I just added FB because its built in. It would seem that there are programs that cannot, use Wi-Fi - but rather want to use 3G.
Is there someone in this forum who know how to make a registry fix or program(.exe or .cab) to re-direct programs to Wi-Fi instead of always going for the 3G net? I would be nice with a switch where you can flip between 3G and Wi-Fi, just like the Curvefish 3G On/Off widget for android http://curvefish.com/widgets/2g3g-onoff.htm
With kind regards
JBJ
I'm still searching When I have a solution I will post it here
Thanks for you effort
With kind regards
JBJ
Hi, I never found a solution - so I guess you need a data plan to use this phone with the FB and other apps that don't like to use wi-fi.
With kind regards
