Was talking to an AT&T cancellation rep, and after 5 mins of "research" and a thoughtful sigh, she unofficially hinted at a AT&T's TP2 release date in November 2009.
I'm packing hot pockets and diapers, will be waiting for November.
For those of us that don't have to be the first kid on the block to get some new toy, it shouldn't be too much of a wait.
EDIT: Another nail in that coffin would be the release date of Fuze, November 11, 2007. Would make sense if TP2 would also be released in the same timeframe.
November 9th??!! That's ridiculous! I hope that its JUST another rumor.

Not November 9, November '09 (2009). Besides, it's what AT&T's customer service rep said, doubt she'd spread rumors.. she'd just say "no info availble bla bla bla"...
Reason she hinted the release date was (I think) because she was a cancellation rep (they got more stuff available to them), I told her that that phone is THE reason I want to switch to Verizon, and to sign another 2yr contract I NEED AT&T to have that phone.
The way she said it made it clear to me that "We have the info, it will be released come November, but I can't tell you that.". Also she repeated 3-4 times: "It will be released... in the _VERY_ near future.. VERY NEAR... say 2 months time"
The reps hardly ever know any real information far in advance. Often times people hear 10 different things from 10 different reps. If you were to go back to previous launch threads you would see how often reps give out false information, because they generally don't know.
October 2009 still makes more sense with launch of WinMo 6.5 imo.
If it's November, then AT&T better beat Verizon's up front price for the phone.
Like I'm talking the TP2 needs to cost under $250, and have at least a $50 MIR, and come with an 8GB microSD card, and an audio jack.
Seriously. It's enough to make me get an iPhone instead and just jailbreak it.

No way will they throw in a 8GB mircoSD. But I really hope Verizon's price forces AT&T to keep it under $299 before any possible rebate.
that's freaken ridiculous. AT&T better release the Tilt 2 in October. it doesn't make sense that they have to keep all their release dates lined up EXACTLY. they should just release it in October, it's only a month off of the Fuze's release date. I'm seriously thinking about giving up on this phone and getting an unlocked Hero. I'm getting tired of WinMo anyway. Android JUST came out, and I already like it better than WinMo.

I wouldn't hold your breath. this is another flagship phone from HTC, so it definitely won't be under 250, we're looking at something more along the lines of 300+ (look at how much the tilt and the fuze costed) AT&T will never give out a 8gb micro sd like that.

this also makes me think that they possibly will release it on the 6th to coincide with winmo 6.5. If so then i will be ok with that. if the tp2 isn't released on that day than i'm going to another carrier. i just know i'm going to have a touch pro 2 that week.
C'mon guys, do you really think AT&T is smart enough to coincide the relase of their phone with WM6.5?! No f'ing way. I guarantee it will come out AFTER october 6th, AND it will probably have WM6.1 on it. They're going to need months and months to test their bloatware on 6.5 before they even try to release it. I'm so god damn fed up with AT&T!
well phones are getting released on the 6th and there's no doubt that they will come with bloatware. i'm sure att has already been testing there software on 6.5 builds. the question is will at&t open their iphone corrupted eyes and notice that there is a high demand for this phone in time
I believe there are leaked AT&T TP2 roms based on 6.5, been out there for a while. WinMo 6.5 was finished in May and in release to manufacturer state (http://twitter.com/wmdev/status/1797927736). So AT&T, and other carriers have had over 4 months to install their bloatware. Also the spyshot of the AT&T Tilt 2 was running WinMo 6.5
Again nothing conclusive, but lots of possible supporting evidence it will launch with WinMo 6.5.

Yeah, I'd be pretty surprised if AT&T was THAT far behind the other carriers (esp T-MO). I'd guess it's ready right now, and only waiting for the WM6.5 official launch, or it'd be out already.
Of course, now that I've said that, AT&T will push it back to December and drop it back to WM6.1

one phone that is confirmed for a release on the 6th is the htc touch2(not touch pro).

any other phone is unconfirmed. i'm just hoping that the at&t touch pro 2 will be one of them.

I got this from a good friend ex-coworker at ATT. Says they will be able to sell it on 10/5 I don't know any codenames or such but, I will let you guys know soon.
Being that WM6.5 will be launching the next day, I find this to be very unlikely. Will they launch it with WM6.1 and then offer an upgrade the following day? Me thinks not.

So they release a phone with 6.5 one day before the official release. I dont think the would really mind. They will make money by selling the phone anyway.
Hey jsut informing on the text I got
"ATT update it should be able to sell on 10/5" so I don't make the rules but we will see.
I agree that it wont be until the 6th due to the windows 6.5 release. However we are splitting hairs. We have waited a couple of months now so a few more days wont make a whole lot of difference to me.
The fact that it actually is being released by ATT is great news for me as Rogers here in Canada is still flogging Tytn's for $350 with a contract. At least they have stopped offering the two tin cans with a string between them.
1 day early
I have to say who cares just release the thing...I have had my Telstra HD for a month and I must say I miss the hardware keyboard. I know when I bought my fuze last year I was able to get it 1 day early so they might do that again.
According to boygeniusreport.com, the date was originally to be October 6th, but was apparently delayed until the 18th because of some severe ROM bug that needed to be fixed. Though I'm sure you can get it early, that's what I did with my Tilt.
Considering how att has handled the tilt 2, this would not be out of their realm of possablity. Their specialty is the iphone and not windows moble.

I doubt it... That's way too far before the Oct 18th release date that BGR reported.
Your friend was probably looking at out-dated info. when the date was set for the 6th, this may have been true, but it was pushed back 2 weeks. Maybe we can get it on the 17th though.
available for sale key words
which means that should have it in at that time, now wireless carriers don't sell phones as soon as they come in. They usually go to a centralized place in the area and then are distributed accordingly, and the SME (Subject Matter Experts) generally have the phones for trial before then.

Kind of what I'm thinking BUT...is the Leo really close? I don't recall anyone mentioning it going through the FCC approval. I would prefer an unlocked non-branded phone anyway but we're not seeing them come through in Europe or Asia with the right bands for U.S. use. My guess is we won't see a usable Leo in the states for quite a while.
For me, it's probably an ATT TP2, use it for a year and then check out the new WM7 machines with the newer hardware specs.
A year from not it's going to be a whole new ballgame.

If O2 releases the phone and it's unlocked, will it work on U.S. 3G?
HTC Leo would be a nice upgrade but 800+ USD for a phone is beyond insane. Touch Pro 2 without contract would be 500 on ATT i dont think i can make that jump to Leo and not even havent USA 3G support.
Leo looks like the only winmo phone thats capable of updating to WINMO 7 though...multi-touch and snap dragon...thats pretty much the requirement for Winmo7....
maybe someone will come out with multi-touch, snap dragon, and tegra chip set...that would be quite a beast.
patiently waiting for touch pro 2 for ATT upgrade not due till late November maybe ill hear other annoucement for ATT

I don't see why they wouldn't get a phone from someone for the release. They still were the only ones to get the HD2 and such in the US.
its been rumored they're getting the dell lightning.
and the htc mozart
I'd say the odds are >95%. We've seent he mozart/shubert leaks with the release date on the leaked roadmap. WP7 sure seems like it's headed for all 4 carriers. AT&T claiming to be the premier carrier just seems like a lame cry because they are losing iPhone exclusivity.
At this point seeing the launch hardware I say T-Mo (US at least) and other US carriers wont get more than 1 device and that will be in the back of the store while they steer people to their android handsets.
So far zero WP7 phones have been noticed going through the FCC with tmo's bands. All of the phones that have been actually photographed are ATT phones.
So right now it's looking bad.

actually yes i do, i personally know several corporate gurus with sprint & verizon. they have no plans on a wp7 device this year. i heard the only carrier so far is at&t and i think their getting it because they are loosing the iphone exclusivity to verison early next year. you don't believe me, do some google searching. the customer base right now wants android & iphone, not winmo.
the so called "we want wp7" petitions they have right now are very, very small in fan base. palm & blackberry will fall off the radar soon too if these companies do not step up to the plate. i work on phones & 95% of those phones i service or unlock are droids. two years ago winmo had a larger fan base, most devs have moved to android.

What you're saying is correct for right now, but what you don't seem to understand is the fact that WP7 is not even out on the market yet. It's not a finished product, whereas, Android and IOS are already out on the market
and they have an established consumer base. Obviously, the Cellphone giants are going to invest their money into the proven product (just like you keep saying over and over again...) but that DOESN'T mean that WP7 is a "terrible" product, it only means that it hasn't been given a chance to prove its worth. Give WP7 6-12 months, and you'll see that your assumptions about the product were ignorant and premature. As far as AT&T goes, the loss of Iphone exclusive rights might have something to do with their huge investment in WP7. However, it also has to do with the fact that they are giving Microsoft a chance because they know that there is a consumer base for their product, and that they have the potential to take over a great amount of the market. Pessimists like yourself just want to stick to what they feel safe with and won't acknowledge that there may be better devices out there other than a non-customizable glitter phone for conformed snobs who think whatever is in demand is what they should buy, and a search engine phone, whose company thinks it's high-tech just because it calls it's phone's UI Android but still can't get rid of it's touchscreen lagging after 2 years on the market... Get a grip mate and stop writing ridiculous comments about a product that you have "researched" through some fanboy blog that you found through google, and that you're not qualified enough to own at this point, much less give advice about...

There's absolutely no reason why there wont be unlocked versions sold, only in the US is locking people into carriers popular AND so easy, in Europe you walk into a store and buy the phone you want, unlocked and insert your SIM card. Same will be true for WP7 phones.
I don't see why Sprint/Verizon don't get one when they are labeled as Launch Partners with Microsoft. Unless they pulled out for some stupid reason, why in the hell would they not get the phone since they have little to do on their end to support it? HTC makes the phones, Microsoft standardized setup, and people that do not want Android/iPhone/BB/crap phone, will buy it. Sure its an investment but you really think Sprint will not get a 4G version and push it? Sprint does have some good Android stuff, but they do not have the "Droid" market like Verizon and I believe it would be wise to get some 4G WP7 devices and really market around them. It would be stupid not to.
I want a WP7 so badly on Verizon. To have all my services (Xbox Live, Zune Pass, Netflix) on one phone is what I have been waiting for years now. Since I don't want to miss out on hacking I probably will get a Android tablet this year. But yeah hurry up VZW!
wait for it...
you'll want to wait for some upgrades so you can use data and voice at the same time...
imagine the buyers remorse of all those iphone users in a month or so...
I may be the minority but I barely talk on my phone and I use it all the time
Hang in there for a little while longer. I'm a live/zunepass user as well and having everything in one device has been great. If I want to send a message on xblive I just use the phone rather than the controller. You already know how great zunepass is, now I have one less device to carry.
Soon it will be yours!

No one is saying anything nor even hinting. I even have people in 5 Verizon stores who will text me when they know something and they don't know anything as of yet.
I'm sure by at least mid Feb we'll have one or at least know when we will get one.

Same here. It was crazy spontaneous, but I am in LOVE with the hardware, and have wanted a white phone (but not an iPhone) forever, LOL. I've been only iphone (couple years ago), and since then only android. Not sure I'm ready for the WP7 switch, but willing to give it a go!
Do you guys think these will be LTE capable? It says so on the Negri Electronics order page, BUT I'm reading articles that say it's the international white version that won't be LTE capable...

Interesting. Personally, I don't live in an LTE area, so it won't bother me if it is only HSPA. I'm hoping the white lumia is released earlier than the locked ATT version.

Do you guys think these will be LTE capable? It says so on the Negri Electronics order page, BUT I'm reading articles that say it's the international white version that won't be LTE capable...

Well, now that LTE is available in STL, I'm going to wait for the Cyan AT&T version. HURRY UP!
I'm also considering the white lumia 900. I have the Titan now but the locked internet sharing by ATT is pissing me off (especially since I'm using it unlocked on a Canadian carrier) and the fact I have one of the early models with defective ram is enough for me to want to switch phones.
BUT I will miss the bigger screen size, loud speaker and HTC apps.. Also interested in comparing the LTE speeds to 4G. I've heard that the external speaker on the lumia 800 sucks. As well I heard the battery life is significantly worse than the Titan. I'm curious if these "cons" will be translated over to the lumia 900 as well.. These are all possible deal breakers for me.
Can anyone confirm that when the unlocked model does become available if this model will support the ATT bands 100%? I really need the unlocked tethering this time around.
I pre-ordered it the first day of availability from the MS Store in Costa Mesa. They seemed to know all about it, and said yes it would be 4G/LTE on att. Can't wait to get my hands on it, but why wait so long after CES to release? Especially when you lose all the positive press and with the Ipad3 release comming the same time. I would have thought they would have released it quickly.

I'm just as anxious as you to get it. My guess is they will announce the date come MWC next week, which should get quite a bit of press. Hopefully the date will be sometime early march!
I was never this excited about the Iphone. I used to have a HTC 3125 that was windows based, and I really loved using it. I don't mind the Iphone, and I love the fact that just works, but I have had to fix it 3 times, (broken screen, water damage, etc) and now to upgrade to a 4S or 5 and have to pay 400+ dollars, thats too much for a phone. If the rumours are true and the 900 comes in at $100 bucks, I'm thinking this could spell a lot of trouble for Android phones.
I also saw a rumour that Instagram may have the an WP7 app before they get an android app out. Give me that and a Pandora App, and Words with Friends, and I would be completely happy.
This is the WP7 device I'm interested in. I've been interested in it ever since they made it official. Nokia makes the best hardware IMO, and their reception and call quality is top notch.

This YT's out of MWC are fantastically tantalizing. I'm concerned about the lack of LTE in my neck of the woods killing the battery, but, Dear God:
Just Release It Already!
It's killing me...

I was in an at&t store yesterday, when the nokia rep came in with the 900. He said an April 8th launch for AT&T. Grain of salt.

AT&T has a habit of releasing new phones on Sundays, so April 8th part of the rumor lines up nicely.
AT&T's releases though are usually on the 1st and 3rd Sundays according to the manager of my local corporate store. I still have my fingers crossed for March 18th if we could get that lucky.

Well, 18th is a third Sunday of the month so maybe we will see it even sooner then rumored April 8th date.
Has there been any rumors/whispers/overheard a conversation in the bathroom news of any future WP7 phones that may be coming to sprint?
Sprint will launch a new Windows Phone about a month after Apollo RTM. You are looking at September period.
The device will feature Snapdragon MSM8960 and LTE.
Source: The Verge
Sprint's network currently sucks too bad to support any kind of phone.
Maybe it will change in the future.
This is a bummer. I'm on Sprint now with only the HTC Arrive and I do want to stay on it. Unfortunately I've been sold on the Nokia Lumia 900 so I'm gonna jump over to AT&T once that's out.
Kinda annoyed that both Sprint and Verizon both have exactly 1 Windows Phone. Seriously lame.
While Sprint may be releasing an LTE "Windows Phone 8" device in September, I'll believe it when I see it. Either way, they are so far behind in LTE that it would take a few years for it to be readily available around the country.
I've been with Sprint for about 4 years, and ditched them today for the Lumia 900 and AT&T (pre-ordered). Sprint has shown ZERO support for Windows Phone since it's launch. I remember being laughed at for trying to get the $50 pre-order gift card for my HTC Arrive when it launched last March.

I hate to admit it, but I've been thinking of leaving Sprint for the Lumia 900 too after their lack of support for the Arrive. I'm trying my hardest to hold out though, I don't want to feel buyer's remorse when I see the snazzy new Apollo-based handsets come out a few months later. I know I'll want one of those instead simply because it's new.
I also went to my local Sprint store and asked about that $50 pre-order and nobody had a clue what I was talking about. They eventually called the manager who told me there was no need to pre-order and to just show up on the Sunday release date because there wouldn't be any lines or sell-outs for a Windows Phone. I'm glad I followed his advice because I saved $100 by ordering from Wirefly and still got it within days after it was released.

you'll probably feel wallet remorse before you feel buyers remorse.

I may be reaching a bit but I think Microsoft may be party to blame here, if you remember Windows Phone didnt have ANY CDMA support when it was initially released in November 2010, it wasnt until 6 months later when the Arrive came out that there was a CDMA windows phone anywhere maybe if there was CDMA and GSM support in the beginning Sprint and Verizon would have put in more effort
Meh. Sprint and Verizon chose to use, and keep using, a cellular technology that very little of the rest of the world uses (some in China, and I few other countries, but the majority is overwhelmingly GSM). NoDo wasn't *that* long in coming, and it's been more than a year since it shipped. At the rate that phones come out these days, that's plenty of time.
I have no problem with sprint releasing another EVDO WP.. So long as I continue paying $40/mnth

I totally agree. Pre-orderer the Nokia Lumia 900 and am saying bye to Sprint. Thanks for the low cost plans Sprint but you guys suck when it comes to having actual good phones.
I really love the Lumia 900 but I went to price plans with AT&T and it costs almost 40% more than what I have with sprint, not to mention the fact that data is capped. I'm definitely frustrated with Sprint's lack of focus with 4G and WP7 but 40% is 40%.

I will agree that Microsoft was partly to blame for the INITIAL sludge in to the CDMA market with Sprint and Verizon... however, it has been nearly 13 months now since the Trophy and Arrive were released on the two carriers. There is further opportunity for new devices, but both Verizon and Sprint have put their marketing focus behind iPhone (and some Android).

My problem with Sprint isn't the price, it is the speed and availability. I travel weekly, and have resorted to carrying a back-up phone (Samsung Focus unlocked on T-Mobile) due to limited service and speed on Sprint's network. Sprint is perfectly fine in major metropolitan areas, but smaller cities (like Fort Wayne, IN where I was last week) leaves a lot to be desired.
If and when Sprint decides to make the jump to LTE, they are going to be at least 12-18 months behind the competition in network expansion. I'm more than happy to pay a premium price for a premium service.
Sprint has always been good to me. It sucks they only have one wp7 phone but for some reason cherish the iPhone.
I have been with sprint for almost 10 years now. In the last 2 years I have seen them add a $10 fee per smart phone(on a family plan that is an extra $50 a month), they increased the cost of my additional lines, they have taken away the premiere program, while in a 4G city I can't get 4g, and their their 3g speeds gotten have extremely slow. I would like to stay with sprint because it is a big hardware investment to switch carriers but sprint hasn't made it very easy for me. Now they are lacking in the windows phone offereings. I have a couple of Zune HD users in my house and they really want a WP7 phone but are not pleased with the idea of the arrive. I think sprint was banking too much on the iphone giving them a jump start because of their unlimited data but it has panned out as well as they had hoped. I think this is why why they have ignored the WP7 platform.

Not surprising. I'm sure they want to play the "wait and see" game after the Palm Pre didn't do as well as they hoped and they want to go with something that has already proven successful on other carriers.
I would've stayed with sprint but their 3G speeds were getting far too unbearable here in Chicago and the suburbs, plus so many broken promises on when they would fix the towers,it just wasn't worth the $97 I was paying, now with T-mobile I get 10GB of full speed, 500 talk, unlimited text for $100 and my speeds are better than they ever were on sprint, even my throttled speeds are faster than sprint.
Sprint has a LG phone on the way. Its been articles on the net today.
AT&T is way over priced.

Is the LG phone gonna be better than the Nokia Lumia 900?
