Hi everyone,
Is anybody loosing network signal after HardSPL???
I did Hrad-SPL my Rhodium more than two weeks ago and since then it keep loosing network signal while I'm getting full signal with my other phone.
I even flashed the original HTC ROM but same problem. The only thing that cure it is changing network type from auto to GSM. It looks the problem is 3G or HSPDA connections.
Any idea how to fix this problem ???
ROM Ver: 1.19.401.1 (51489) WWE
ROM date: 06/22/09
Radio ver: 3.46.25.30
Protocol Ver: 61.32t.25.26U
Network: T-Mobile UK
Flashing ROMs and HSPL shouldn't affect signal AFAIK, but I would definitely recommend you try a different radio. Maybe the one you have is corrupted somehow. I different radio will certainly give you some noticeable differences, although they can also give you loss of sound, loss of network altogether and diminished battery life, but some can give you better battery life and better signal depending on your operator and where you are exactly.
I would suggest you try the stickied Radio Collection thread in the forum.
same problem here, but without flashin or hard resetting.. the problem just suddenly pop out! going to refer to the radio collection to try out a different radio and report here then..
still same problem
thanks for your advice,
I have tried different Radio, but still same problem
I think I might be able to help you. Go to Start/ Setting/ Connections tab/ Connections Icon. Then goto Manage existing Connections. Pick T-mobile Data and Edit. On the first screen do Nothing and goto Next ( the next page) the as the Access Point Name delete what it is and type wap.voicestream.com then click Next then Finish hope that helps.

Aren't you referring to internet connection issues as opposed to the radio signal?
Yeah but I was losing connection also and that helped me. I had bars but no G, E or 3G with the bars and that helped. I couldn't send or reciece emails or get Updates or go online so that trick worked for me if those are the same issues there having. It's worth a try atleast

Hi,
I am using a T-mobile vario 2 in the UK. I recently flashed the radio rom to version 1.43 and replaced the operator rom with the official dopod wm6 rom. Most things are working ok but I have run into a few problems; hopefully someone here can help me.
First (minor) problem when the phone is first turned on it asks you to select a country. UK is not on the list, only countries in south pacific area. Does this prevent me from connecting properly to my local provider? ie do I show up as roaming?
Next problem is that I can't receive my voicemail. I phoned T-Mobile to check the number and setup etc but everything is correct. The phone just tells me "The number you have dialed is not recognised" or something to that effect.
Finally my phone frequently looses its data connection. When you open internet explorer a popup message shows saying: "Unable to connect to network for an unknown reason..." I checked all of the settings and they are ok. The only thing that fixes the data connection is to reset the phone. Probably I am also dropping calls whilst the phone is in this state.
So can anyone help? I think it is most likely the radio rom at fault but it could be related to not being able to select the correct county.
Thanks for your help

try radio 1.47 which comes with the dopod wm6
Ok I followed the suggestion and have upgraded to radio 1.47 but I still get the same problems. At least I have only checked the voicemail so far but get the same message. It actually says "You have dialed an incorrect number..."
Any other suggestions?
Download and install the provider Cab settings for your provider.
Search the wiki for more information
I have already done this. The settings are correct.
Hmm, thanks for the advice... now sms doesn't work either. PS. whilst flashing radio rom I also changed to JJ's black satin.
Please can somebody suggest a radio rom that is known to work well on T-Mobile in the UK. ie. no dropped calls, GPRS, 3G and HSDPA all working, voicmail and sms working, I don't care about video calling.
Thanks
Matt
Mat,
I am on TyTn and I had the same problem after installing Dopod WM6 version + 1.47 radio - on the second day majority of programs requiring internet connection were returning in message 'Unable to connect due to unknown reason...'. Even Wi-Fi was not responding. Only Resco Radio was working ?!?!
Solved this by removing the GRPS Internet settings and updating them manually.
As to the dropping calls, did you try to switch to GSM (instead of 3G). This is a common problem if your 3G covergae is bad?
Since upgrading the radio rom from 1.43 to 1.47 I have not had the "Unable to connect.. for an unknown reason" message. So I guess this was either due to some screwed up settings before, or some bug that has been fixed between releases.
I don't know how to switch from 3G to GSM but I am not convinced that this is the problem since my push email works just fine.
Incidentally I have noticed that my phone seems to default to 3G but as soon as I open a page in explorer it jumps into HSDPA, once it finishes it goes back to 3G. Is there a way to make it stay in HSDPA or is this a bad idea for some reason?
With the above observation in mind I could be wrong in thinking 3G was not my problem. Perhaps my phone jumps into HSDPA to receive push email.
So how do you force GSM or even GPRS over 3G?
Please forgive my ignorance.
Matt
Ok found a setting in com manager/phone/bands/ changed from auto which was putting me on umts to gsm. Was this what you meant? I have gone from 2 bars of 3G and 2 bars of HSDPA when in use to full bars of GPRS. Internet browsing was definitely faster with HSDPA but do you think I should be able to receive texts now? I know I have missed some and they still have not come through.
This is weird, after changing to GSM my htc home plugin reports 2 unread text messages but when I open up the SMS/MMS folder ther are no messages at all.
???
I find the best radio rom for Tmobile UK is 1.27 - see the wiki.
For your voicemail, set the phone to dial your own number, it works.
Ive tried all the new radios and always go back to 1.27. I am currently running Schaps lates WM6 rom (3.57a I think)

Hi i'm on T-Mobile Uk Vario II currently using Black Satin & Radio 1.43 3g, hsdpa, sms, mms, voicemail all working.
Can only suggest reflash rom with somthing like Schaps 3.57a use his operator setting tool to set T-Mobile settings and use radio 1.43 and see what happens.
Cheers
It would appear that WM6 dialer strips the leading zero from the T-Mobile voicemail number +440507... giving +44507...
I have not figured out how to fix it yet.
For the voicemail thing, the dialer does indeed strip out the leading zero on the voicemail number - I spent hours trying to fix this and in the end, it was easy - just put an extra zero in the number (in network services) ;-)
I use Black Satin with Radio 1.47.00.10 and have no problems whatsoever but I'm still evaluating - I don't know if I've tried 1.27 yet so I think I'll look into that and report back the comparison.
You say you were having problems with data "unable to connect..." - I used to have this a lot and invariably, it was because my conection had somehow developed a proxy server - turned this off and it work after that (it usually happened after I synced it with my work computer)
Could the SMS messages be on your SIM or something? Not had this problem but have a look in SIM manager see if that can find anything.
The thing about HSDPA is that it isn't on all the time - the phone will stay in 3G until you or your phone initiates a data connection, then HSDPA will kick in for the duration of the connection then fall back to 3G - this is normal as your phone cannot receive calls and stuff while HSDPA is connected (I think - i'll look for clarification on this point - the phone will should drop the HSDPA when a call comes in).
Some people do report that data speeds etc seem faster when they mess with the band settings but I've not been able to confirm this and just leave it as it is.
If you don't get anywhere with your SMS problem, you could try the threaded apps that I've customised for t-mobile (links in my SIG) but be warned - any texts you have in your current SMS inbox will be inaccessible until you uninstall the threaded app. I'm using the WM6 one on mine at the moment and it works just fine for SMS and MMS.
Smiffy
Thanks for the replies guys!
I am now very happily running the 'normal' version of JJ's Black Satin rom and radio rom 1.48.
Everything seems to be working fine now. Adding the extra 0 into my voicemail number did the trick; so easy once you know how!
The data connection can still be slow occasionally. I think this is because if you have a weak 3G signal this overrides a stronger GPRS one. Sometimes the 3G signal is so weak it can't transfer any data and the phone just keeps trying in 3G rather than switching to the stronger GPRS signal which would work. This is easy the fix, just go into com manager and disable 3G (on the black satin rom at least).
Generally I am very happy and my device is finally working the way I wanted it to.
Once again, thanks for your help
Cheers

I use whats in my sig and it works well. I get the 3g/gprs battle at my house alot. Complain to tmobile regularly and they'll sort it out eventually.
I have noticed in the past few weeks that my signal reception has gotten worse. Places where I usually get 3G and HSPDA, now I only get Edge. It's seldom I get 3G anymore anywhere.
I am currently using K's ROM v1.30b. I tried a bunch of different radios as well, but no affect.
I am wondering is there something that can cause the signal to drop like that? Is it ROM dependent?
BTW, I'm on at&t in the midwest.
No one knows what can cause this?
Unless you have handled your device badly then it sounds like a transmitter issue. What radio version are you using? Also go into: start>system>phone>band
tell us what settings are selected.
The reception and etc....is attributed to the radio stack version, nothing else.

Thank you for your reply. I've used the following radios:
1.47, 1.48, 1.50, 1.54 all with approximately the same results. Meaning mostly Edge network everywhere and very very rarely 3G. Whereas it was 3G mostly before.
My settings are :
Select your network type: GSM (Should this be Auto?)
Select your GSM/UTMS band: Auto
Dont forget that sometimes the problem can be on AT&T's end...
The tower by my work has occasionally gone screwey for a day and all I can get is EDGE, or sometimes 3G with only 1 or 2 bars before switching to another tower on EDGE (normally full bars).
It's happened 4 times in the last year, each lasting only one day.
Go to a friends house or somewhere else and see if 3G comes back. If so then it might just be your local tower, esp. since you have tried so many radios without a difference.
EDIT: just read the above post..
Network type MUST be Auto or WCMDA for 3G to function!!

Your troubles as shown in the post above this one....your mode is set to GSM....hence why your device will not work on UMTS/3G unless the mode is set to WCDMA or auto.
Hi,
Need help on this one. My hermes is perfectly working fine for almost anything I flashed on it. Then all of a sudden 3G is not working anymore, I cant call, text or even browse of course. So i have no choice but to turn it off and activating with only standard GSM.
Hope that anyone could give me a bright soultion to overcome this kind of situation. This is the 1st time it happened to my hermes.
Thanks in advance.

I would try doing a reflash with the same rom first and if that doesn't work, then a different rom.

I already reflashed it with the last ROM and still didnt worked.
I flashed it with the OfficialHTC_TyTN_WWE_3.54.255.3_6275_1.48.00.10_108 and still didnt worked.
I flashed the radio back to 1.54.30.10 and still it didnt worked.
I flashed it official Windows Mobile 6.1 and still it didnt worked.
Then I went back to PDAVIET's 19400.... G mode
I tried turning off the hsdpa (without reset) while in 3g mode, i can call for at least 15 sec then the signal will not be available again so i have to switch back to GSM again to obtain signal .... anybody ...help?
are you sure that it's not a network issue? I Used to work for Wind Italy Mobile as a costumer service In Italy and network providers sometimes wile they are changing or repairing something from the cells they switch off the signal I would first phone your network to make in sure they are not messing about with your local cell.
Case Solve!
I just finished testing my hermes on other location, and my 3G has come alive! I therefore conclude that it was the providers cell site in our area who has problems in 3G connection because when i came back at the house, 3G is not working again. Digitally, thanks for the great info.
Hi guys, after installing the latest radio on my Hero I get the feeling that my mobile internet connection (both HSDPA, 3G and 2G) seem to be dropping more often than before. I haven't monitored this prior to upgrades so I can't say for sure. But is anybody having the same experience?
Also is it possible to downgrade the radio? Do you just reinstall the old radio?
Thanks.
yes i have the same issue. my mobile internet and also the gps stops to work after a while of not using the phone. i have to restart the phone to get gps back to work.
mobile internet can also be reactivated by activating and deactivating the "only 2g networks" option.
this failure sucks because i just recognize that the mobile internet is down because i didn't get push mails for a while.
I have noticed that as well
Yep me too. I can be browsing (web, market, or rss) for a while, then lose connection for a bit, then it will suddenly work again.
Can we reflash the old radio?
No need. It could be the APN settings. I was having problems on T-Mobile with HSDPA dropping and read in another post to go to the T-Mobile support page for the G2 and select Connecting to the Internet --> Set up the phone for internet surfing --> and follow the instuctions to set up a new APN. Worked for me
I have the same problem.
I have installed the new Hero ROM two weeks ago, one week ago mobile internet disappeared from my phone. Before this it was very good.
I can't find the good solution for this issue. Please help.
Same radio ROM. But there were internet for a week with this ROM.
I don't understand.
(I have tried to reflash the ROM, but not solved.)
Same problem here.
Mobile network has been unstable since I bought it.
When I turn it off for a while and turn it on again, I can't see the icon on the top bar. What I have to do is going to Settings - Wireless controls - Mobile network settings - Network operators - Select automatically.
Sometimes the connection is lost while using. I have to do the same thing like above to make it work again.
I also contacted HTC's customer service, but I haven't got any response.
Too bad!
I find if I leave it then it comes back. Every so often it goes...then the firmware eventually notices and it reconnects. Annoying. Hopefully this will be fixed when T-Mobile release thier version of the ROM update later this week.
I have the same issue, but it seems like it only happens when I leave a wirelss-zone (and not every time I do that either).
When I leave home, it will maybe 1 of 3 times not connect to 3G before I manually connect again (Settings - Wireless controls - Mobile network settings - Network operators - Select automatically)
I've just used AnyCut to create a shortcut to this menu-option so it is less annoying, but a more permanent and official fix would be great.
same thing in my one thats why i hate htc from now one loots of bugs in hero headphones led net go back to htc hd how you can release phone if is not done properly

I have been running the original sense ROM on my DHD downgraded from the 1.72 it came with to 1.32 to freeze bloatware and get rid of the annoying SMS notification bug. Was working great until I tried a new radio to see if I could improve my patchy Vodafone UK 3G sig.al at home. I tried the latest stable radio from Cingular and found 3G and GPS was good but wifi was suddenly terrible! Right next to router and only getting 'fair' signal. Thought I'd return to original 1.32 radio using the one in the radio thread but this has made no difference. Wifi signal is now poor upstairs with only my network visible whereas I was getting Excellent with multiple networks nearby showing. Is this a radio problem or settings? I never had best wifi performance ticked in settings. If it is a radio problem does anybody know how to return to the stock one that came with my DHD - UK unlocked used on Vodafone UK network. Any help appreciated greatfully!

Apparently these radios, unless WWE, are designed for a specific area. If you're not in the area you will notice some downgrading in WiFi functionality. Try a WWE radio and see how it goes.
shut down and restart your router and try again the wi-fi. that work for me the first time.
or you can boot into recovery and do a Factory re-set

Have tried most of the radios in the thread over in Desire HD development now with pretty similar results, even tried the UK specific test radio listed there. Currently on Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2.
Have tried a reboot of router also, but that did little. I used to be able to see 4-5 nearby networks also but can only barely see one now.
Hi, would just like to report back to say I think I've fixed it. Is the wifi antenna connector on the battery cover like the network antenna is on the sim card cover?
Was at work and getting a really poor signal to the ADSL line here for external devices, whereas last week had nearly a full signal (2 rooms away). Just removed the sim and battery cover with the phone on so I could soft reset it in the process, cleaned the gold contacts and put back together and WiFi seems to be working great again.
Will report back later when I've had chance to test it at home but seems it was maybe a Darwin moment and I hadn't put the battery cover back on properly or the contacts were dirty?
That's good to know for future reference... cheers!!!
