I have recently changed to wm6, and changed radio rom.
I now have a problem with my signal.
When I start up my signal is great.
If I drive around for a while I get a no signal icon and "no signal" message.
If I manually switch a band to any variation I get the signal back.
I have changed roms, radio roms and varied all the settings but I still get this problem.
Anyone have any ideas ?

Hmmm let me guess Cingular customer??
what radio are you using??? if you are in the US, try using 1.40 radio, im using that one and its great, but i am on T-Mobile US...if you are on the UK 3G band, then try 1.43
I'm in South Africa... Not Cingular...tried 1.40... no change to the problem though
Have you tried going back to the radio you were previously using before this happened?

Thats pretty f***ed up. I have Cingular and dont have a problem. Signal all depends on what Radio you have.

There are several more radio versions after 1.40 you should read up and see what radon would work best in South africa.
I was using wm5 with 1.3? but others in SA are using 1.40 with no problems.
Hi guys!
I recently upgraded to WM6, but left my radio at 1.40.
I am having BIG BIG problems.
All of a sudden, I could have 5 dropped calls in two minutes.
I notice that whenever the phone goes into "3G", signal strength drops (sometimes to one bar), and it's terrible.
I am not sure if there is a way to disable 3G, and remain in EDGE, or if I should try to get my hands on 1.43 or even 1.41.
What's strange is that when I went from WM5 to WM6, I did NOT upgrade the radio.
I'm on Rogers in Montreal.
It's beyond horrendous!
I don't know if there are more of you having problems with 3g and hsdpa after flashing the new radio update.
My connection type only accepts gprs after the flash. When i dial *#*#INFO#*#* and choose information and tap the ping test, i can only see that gprs is connected.
With the older radio's i always had a hsdpa connection.
This is the radio i'm using: 32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04
Roms are different roms with the same issue:
-Defrost 2.0a
-DJDroid v1.0r1
-Adams OpenDesire 1.5 and 1.6 prerelease.
All roms in combination with this radio are causing problems with my 3g connection.
Maybe if you specify the ROM and the Radio versions you are using, someone can help you....

dutch Hi / KPN... no difference at all.. 3g works fine, speedtest still showing 950kbps
Open desire 1.5, h3g data connection is HSDPA, with latest radio.
Well i only see the gprs icon, no 3g or hsdpa here. Speedtests give me 0.01mbit down and 0.02mbit upload speeds.
I just found 2 more simcards.
1 kpn
2 t-mobile
both the same thing, no more than 0.02 mbit up and down. . .
Maybe i have to try flashing a older radio back.

Maybe vodafone 3G broadcast thingie (dunno) is broken in your area?
Yeah mine dropped to 2G All the time so I flash the Android 2.2 HTC sense Rom and pushed it to wcdma only. Works, I think it's an issue with the radio for T-Mobile UK customers

No because he tried kpn and T-mobile as well.
I've always had 3G issues on mine regardless of radio so I'm putting it down to being orange. New radio for me seems better tho, I get H alot more so things work fine!
Maybe the flash didn't take...
I flashed Dj Droid 1.0 r1 today with new radio and ive not shown Hdspa since. I did a speed test and it showed 1.9 - 2Mb, which is good for where i am. I did the ping test and it came back saying Hdspa so i think with me its just the icon thats not changing.
2.2 unless patched will only display 3G icon for both 3G and H. I doubt HTC have put that patch in...
And found another vodafone card (vodafone dongle)
Lets try
I have the same problem with H only getting 3g signal, since I started using 32... radio. So its defiantly not network related.
Ok tested my vodafone dongle, and same issue (from laptop), so there must be something wrong with the vodafone network.
Pffieuw
I have same problem with last radio with ROM Six O'clock AM, Open Desire, AOSP, DjRoid and AOSPDesire_1.2.2.
It's a bit strange, normally when i am in the living room a always had 3g or hsdpa. Now i only have gprs until i go upstairs, when i'm at the top floor it shows me the hsdpa icon, and a speed test of +/- 1.5/2Mbit down and up.
So there changed something. Maybe Vodafone messed up their signal or there's something different with the new radio. . .
This isn't related to any particular ROM as I have tasted this with various sense and none sense ROMS... Has anyone since using the latest radio had issues with connecting to 3G or having very strange fluctuations, where the signal might go dead completely then back up to full?
I seem to be experiencing this with 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20
nope seems fine with mine. OD rom in Australia

The mentioned Radio is really poor in 3G Network. Especially change between 3G and EDGE. When I disconnect from Wifi it too often doesnt connect to the GSM or 3G again - the bars are there, you can phone but cant use data connection.
I hope there'll be a updated radio soon!
Im not happy with 5.09.00.20.
Hi,
I'm also experiencing a poor 3G connection with this radio.
I'm not happy with that.
Vodafone Spain, also same while itinerance in Portugal, USA.
Best
this radio has been absolutely fine for me.
having poor reception at singapore here too...
should i downgrade the radio?
Working best for me. From Malaysia.
Not working at all well for me. All was working great until I flashed to this radio. I'm now experiencing complete signal drops at least once an hour, have to toggle airplane mode to re-enable.
I tried rolling back to each other radio bar the first 3 or 4 with the same result.
Could it be something else or am I missing something when rolling back the radio?
It works fine for me as long as I stay in Copenhagen, but I've experienced losing signal altogether when travelling, this didn't happen before, so I think it's because of the radio.
I have a weird issue where I never seem to be able to access the Internet in any way until the connection icon changes from "3G" to "H". Is this normal? I haven't noticed this on the stock radio but then I didn't keep it that long...
Still having this "issue". Anyone else?
New version is working really better here.
Where could one get that version? And is it supposed to work on any ROM without breaking it?
I have the 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 radio and am on Telus.
I have the same issue as you. When the icon shows 3G my internet doesnt work at all but as soon as it changed to H (bang) full speed internet..
It did it for me on the 32.43 radio but not on stock. Anyone know what the stock Telus Radio is?
Guys you do know on telus we dont have a 3G network its strictly "H" that would be why your internet does not work. I would like to know how you managed to get stuck in 3G as i never have.
I have no idea - i just updated radio and rom to 2.2 Official (but rooted) - i entered the apn settings from the telus website.
When on internet things will be fine, internet loading (H in task bar) and then suddenly it will turn to the 3G icon and internet will freeze until the H icon comes back. Strange...
When i go into the settings and check my phone model it says its a HTC Desire A8181 - i checked the internet and this model is 3G Dual-Band 900/2100MHz.
Before i flashed a 2.2 rom my model showed as HTC Desire 8182, which is 850/1900 3G.
Could this be why its getting stuck on 3G instead of H?
My model also displays HTC Desire A8181 and I'm running a 2.2 ROM.
I don't remember what it said before on the Telus stock rom, but I could try flashing it back to see, since I have it in backup.
If you could try flashing it back that would be great - i think i have my Nandroid backup but its on my works computer...

Hey.
I have a big problem with my desire. The phone is fully working, but when it goes into standby, and I try to turn it on using the "power button" at the top, the keys light up, but nothing comes on the screen It just doesn't turn on again.
Any ideas? Thanks!
In the general section on the desire forum there is a topic related to defective proximity sensor. i,m a new forum-user so i can't make a link yet
Thanks for the help so far, but couldn't find anything that solved my problem :/ Have to restart the phone every time it goes into standby
Like many others, I am also experiencing this standby-of-death (SOD) problem: the lights in the buttons under the screen turn on, but the screen itself stays black. I have found out that it has to do with switching from 3G to 2G networks: the problem occurs after I have been at places where there is no 3G signal, but only 2G. For example, after a car trip or when going into the basement.
A workaround for this problem, is to type the code *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer. You will then end up in a hidden menu. By choosing "Phone information" (first item) and then scrolling down in the next screen, you can change the "Preferred network type". By default, it was set to "WCDMA preferred" on my phone. After I changed this setting to "WCDMA only" (so, 3G only), I have not seen the SOD issue anymore (for 4 weeks now, before it happened almost daily).
A disadvantage of this workaround is that the phone will never use 2G anymore. So, when you are at a place where there is no 3G signal, you will be disconnected (i.e. you cannot receive phone calls). As an alternative, I have now reverted the setting to the original value ("WCDMA preferred") and I have installed an older radio image (version 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2), which is considered to be more stable by many people. I'll test and see whether the problem reoccurs. If the problem stays away, it is apparently a software (radio image) issue. If not, it must be a hardware issue.
Anyway, if anyone has additional information about the root cause of this standby issue, please let me know!

OMG I love you!
Seriously this has been doing my head in for weeks! I have posted a couple of times in this forum. First time, constantly remvoing and replacing the battery left me with a bricked phone. HTC revived it under warranty but after a week I got sick of Sense (and the poor battery life) and tried rooting again (tried Redux and CM7) but the problem came back. Makes sense because it works fine around Bristol (loads of 3G) but constantly SODs in Bournemouth (flicks between 2G and 3G at my desk). Also, just had data off for a few hours and didn't get SOD once.
I am not up on the lingo yet as I am fairly new to rooting but running Baseband version 32.49.00.32H_5.11.05.27. Is this the radio?
Please keep me posted on the older radio version. Shouldn't need a long test period, just need to go from a known 3G area to a known 2G area while locked.

Yes it is the radio.
I have got GingerVillain (Based on CM) and I use the Power Control widget to switch between 2G and 3G. You can customise the widget (just add it to a screen) to get this feature.
I haven't got any 3G around my house so I don't need to activate it all the time .
Yeah Redux has a similar thing so I will use that until a proper solution is found.
Small update: enabling 2G only didn't fix the issue (I think 3G only is okay) so perhaps the issue is with 2G rather than switching between the two.
Instead I am using an app called "3G Data Only!" so that 2G can still be used for calls but not data, working great so far.
I have tied the latest Radio (32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23) and the problem does not go away.
How come this problem doesn't occur to (many) others? Could it be related to your network provider? Maybe you could change the SIM with another, from another network, and see what happens. Also, you could make use of the phone warranty - if it's still covered by it.

On o2 (in UK) right now, will try out another sim later. As for warranty, never had any issues on non-root Froyo Sense so can't do anything.

Try to change the network, say, from O2 to 3 or Vodafone. If your Desire is branded, there is a free way to unlock it - just look for Desire SIM-Unlock utility in the forum, by sieempi

Great, I'll try this application! Would be very nice if that fixes the problem without disabling 2G phone calls. I never use 2G for data (too slow anyway), but I would like to be able to still make phone calls when out of range of 3G cells.

It might be, I don't know. I'm using a Telfort SIM, connected via the KPN network (Netherlands).
3G data only works a treat for that, you can make calls.
Found with the old radio that it is a lot more stable than the new radio but not 100% perfect. Where I work I only have 2G and it would SOD all the time but now it doesn't. However on a journey I make with intermittent 2G/3G I did get a SOD.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
3G Data Only doesn't work well enough. The SOD issue does occur less frequently, but the phone still hangs sporadically. So, if have disabled 2G completely again.
You should try Insertcoin. I haven't had this issue since I started using IC v32 a2sd.
Hi there. So i get the same thing on mine. I thought I should report my experience.
Had it over a year old then all of a sudden it started acting like this
heres what i tried
Factory reset, rooted it twice, boot with no sim, no SD card, dismantled it via instructions I found on an android forum to check for loose connections, gave it to a friend who ran some different roms, overclocked it, underclocked it. Its currently on the Oxygen rom, no difference. I tried the secret menu from page one of the comments. I tried living with leaving the screen on for 30 mins..but its so impractical
I should add that if i leave it for say a couple of hours, the damn thing comes on just fine. Its only from being on, to off, then back on..
I think its hardware related, maybe something to do with the power being held back for the screen or something. All i can say is that its really doing my tits in and i'm currently using my old phone which is functional but not as fun.
What can i do next...send to HTC, i'm out of warranty but their repair centre can still have a look, or buy a faulty phone off ebay and harvest some parts...
I dont want to give up on it, because apart from this the phone works fine.
guys i had this problem too, when i force to use 3G only everything works perfect but in area with no 3G signal your phone become useless cuz you are out of network, i also had a self-rebboting problem and i sent my lovely desire to htc repair center, they replace mobo and now i am waiting to receive my phone back and i will test this issue, if everything will works correctly in 3g/gsm etc you guys need to do the same and sent your phone to repair,

I have a problem with wifi after I put update on 2.3.3
whether it can solve this problem with wifi.
I always shoot and it turns the wifi network.
be a good wifi network signal then disappears
Same problem here
This is a very serious problem. Get ur act together HTC, this is just unacceptable!
Are you rooted? HTC raised the signal strength at which the connection would be dropped, there is a fix if you are rooted, otheewise you are stucm and will have to wait for HTC to correct this.
Sent from my Desire HD
Have you tried another radio? of course be careful if you do change it
same issue, though htc say that its a "new feature" to provide a seamless mobile broadband experience by automatically chosing the strongest signal. whatever you say htc
i just disable mobile data at home, so it cant jump back to 3g and stays on wifi. the annoying thing with this is that i forget to enable mobile data when leaving the house.
i hope they sort it out, and that this new feature isn't rolled out across their other products
I am having the same problem. At work, my wifi connection is weak, but was always functional. Now, I cannot connect to my work wifi. On top of that, my battery drains twice as fast on my phone, and I'm thinking that it's due to the phone always scanning and trying to connect to the wifi signal. If it's true that HTC changed the level at which the wifi signal is dropped, this was a terrible decision.

I think this may answer/point to the problem I'm having since installing the Gingerbread RUU. I use the quick settings app from the market and pre-gingerbread it used to switch between wi-fi/mobile pretty seemlessly, turning off the unused option. Now if there's no wi-fi connection that option seems to stay on (probably searching) while it's connected to mobile data. As above, my battery is draining like a sieve.

Same problem for me with Original Rom.
so i tried the Revoloution HD 5.1.4 and same problem again!
Hi guys until HTC release an OTA fix (that's if they do) the only way to resolve this is to root and then try some different ROM and radio combinations until you find one that works for you.
I find the ROM and radio from my signature work really well on WiFi but if you are going to do this make sure and root, gain S-OFF and ENG S-OFF. Also make sure you have the correct RIL for the ROM and radio that you are using
There are lots of threads on the dev section that guide you through this.
Wifi connecting
I have a similar problem with wifi connection. Only it doesn't disconnect during a connection but when establishing a wifi connection it takes much longer than it used to on Froyo. Anyone else noticed this?
i have problem too with wifi
I really hope htc has stopped the updates and resumes with a new build with the wifi problem fixed
The issue is with the Gingerbread Sense ROMs.

WiFi problems with routers
Hi there,
Same problem here. Both my WiFi router and phone say signal and reception quality are perfect and connection it stable, but data won't flow.
I'm having this problem with my Speedtouch (WEP key) router at home, whereas a Sitecom router at the office works fine (WPA etc. key).
Tried some work arounds, without success
Regards
***EDIT***
I can add that it has nothing to do with the reported threshold of -88dB signal strength. As I checked that with the *#*#4636#*#* option and both higher and lower values of the WiFi reception don't make any difference. The problem persists.
***EDIT v2***
The suggestion posted elsewhere to change from WEP to WPA didn't work out either
***EDIT v3***
Reverted back to ARHD 3.7 and WiFi is running fine again .
Hope some fix will be found soon!
Regards,
Is there any solution. I am trying to downgrade the radio but no chance.
If I use LeeDroid or Revolution will this same problem be there?
