I have a problem with wifi after I put update on 2.3.3
whether it can solve this problem with wifi.
I always shoot and it turns the wifi network.
be a good wifi network signal then disappears
Same problem here
This is a very serious problem. Get ur act together HTC, this is just unacceptable!
Are you rooted? HTC raised the signal strength at which the connection would be dropped, there is a fix if you are rooted, otheewise you are stucm and will have to wait for HTC to correct this.

Have you tried another radio? of course be careful if you do change it
same issue, though htc say that its a "new feature" to provide a seamless mobile broadband experience by automatically chosing the strongest signal. whatever you say htc
i just disable mobile data at home, so it cant jump back to 3g and stays on wifi. the annoying thing with this is that i forget to enable mobile data when leaving the house.
i hope they sort it out, and that this new feature isn't rolled out across their other products
I am having the same problem. At work, my wifi connection is weak, but was always functional. Now, I cannot connect to my work wifi. On top of that, my battery drains twice as fast on my phone, and I'm thinking that it's due to the phone always scanning and trying to connect to the wifi signal. If it's true that HTC changed the level at which the wifi signal is dropped, this was a terrible decision.

I think this may answer/point to the problem I'm having since installing the Gingerbread RUU. I use the quick settings app from the market and pre-gingerbread it used to switch between wi-fi/mobile pretty seemlessly, turning off the unused option. Now if there's no wi-fi connection that option seems to stay on (probably searching) while it's connected to mobile data. As above, my battery is draining like a sieve.

Same problem for me with Original Rom.
so i tried the Revoloution HD 5.1.4 and same problem again!
Hi guys until HTC release an OTA fix (that's if they do) the only way to resolve this is to root and then try some different ROM and radio combinations until you find one that works for you.
I find the ROM and radio from my signature work really well on WiFi but if you are going to do this make sure and root, gain S-OFF and ENG S-OFF. Also make sure you have the correct RIL for the ROM and radio that you are using
There are lots of threads on the dev section that guide you through this.
Wifi connecting
I have a similar problem with wifi connection. Only it doesn't disconnect during a connection but when establishing a wifi connection it takes much longer than it used to on Froyo. Anyone else noticed this?
i have problem too with wifi
I really hope htc has stopped the updates and resumes with a new build with the wifi problem fixed
The issue is with the Gingerbread Sense ROMs.

WiFi problems with routers
Hi there,
Same problem here. Both my WiFi router and phone say signal and reception quality are perfect and connection it stable, but data won't flow.
I'm having this problem with my Speedtouch (WEP key) router at home, whereas a Sitecom router at the office works fine (WPA etc. key).
Tried some work arounds, without success
Regards
***EDIT***
I can add that it has nothing to do with the reported threshold of -88dB signal strength. As I checked that with the *#*#4636#*#* option and both higher and lower values of the WiFi reception don't make any difference. The problem persists.
***EDIT v2***
The suggestion posted elsewhere to change from WEP to WPA didn't work out either
***EDIT v3***
Reverted back to ARHD 3.7 and WiFi is running fine again .
Hope some fix will be found soon!
Regards,
Is there any solution. I am trying to downgrade the radio but no chance.
If I use LeeDroid or Revolution will this same problem be there?

I'm having an issue that happens about 50% of the time. When in a WiFi zone and connected to a router, quite often the mobile network will lose connection so I cannot make calls or send texts. None of the mobile bars are illuminated and there appears to be a little "x" above them. Leaving the WiFi zone disconnects from the router, but the mobile network still does not come back.
I have to reboot the phone before it picks up the mobile network again. It's really frustrating because without checking my phone, I never know whether it has mobile network connection or not (when i'm in a WiFi area such as work). I know the area i'm in has mobile connection, but WiFi just seems to kill it.
This is happening on the stock HTC ROM and the latest Oxygen ROM that I flashed to. Is this a known big or any tips/tricks?
Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > press Menu, select Advanced, and check your Wi-Fi Sleep policy settings.
maybe you have an old radio? i would suggest that you try to flash another radio to see if it solves your problem. again, just a suggestion!!!

Hmmm, I did not know about that. I'm not sure it'll fix the issue, but the WiFi turning off an on did somewhat bug me, so cheers for showing me that setting anyway

Well, I don't know what my stock radio was, but when I flashed to Oxygen I tried the one the dev recommended. Perhaps i'll try another.
Would 3 Mobile be really annoyed if I took the phone in for help and it was flashed to a custom ROM?

You could also try a modified kernel and as suggested above, a different radio version as this can help with issues related to Wi-Fi reception, GPS signal strength, and battery life.
If you purchased the mobile from 3 Mobile, then they may suggest that your warranty is void as you have 'hacked' it. You can always flash back to stock ROM and then check if the same issue persists. If not, then go back to a custom ROM, try different radio versions and some may work better as it can depend on your network/area, and if still not resolved, try flashing a compatible modified Kernel from the Desire Android Development section of the forum.
I'm using Leedroid 2.3b with RIL optimised for 5.11.05.27, and I notice weak signal with WiFi, it is present, but WiFi bars change all the time, among other symptoms similar to those he has described. The other day I went out of range of WiFi network, but the phone hasn't switched to mobile network, but instead the WiFi icon remained and there of course was no connection. Would you define this as an ROM or radio issue? Is there any sense in changing the radio to other when the ROM developer stated this one is the best?
A few days ago I flashed the newest radio (I was using batt+ up to that moment) because I experienced echo during calls. Now the echo is gone, but this happens.

I think it could be ROM or Radio related... I was not aware that the associated RIL was to be flashed also although I know it is always recommened as it can provide an important part in handling the communication between the Radio and the Kernel.
Have you tried without the RIL and just the radio alone? Try that and see if it improves the situation.
I downloaded and flashed RIL for this radio. It shouldn't make any difference though since this RIL is supposed to be in the ROM already. :s
This radio is also downloaded OTA from our provider. I checked my sister's Desire, she has the same radio on her stock Desire (i.e. it was downloaded OTA).

Is there any good advice on what Radios work well and what they excel at? I see quite a lot posted, but no hard information on what works best
What I would love is one that actually picks up mobile signal. Where I live, we get very poor reception, however, usually 1 bar is possible. My Desire never picks up anything whereas my old N95 8gb used to get 1 bar as does my brothers phone.
It's good enough for texts at least. Any advice on radios then?
hi guys, since I started trying gingersense roms, I alway had the same problem, wifi drops when signal is low. I never had this problem with froyo roms. There is a fix for this problem? This is very annoying for me, because in my home wifi signal is always low, but I havn't problem with other devices.
Thanks.
Some news, if I switch off 3g data connection, WiFi hasn't any problem, but if I turn it on, WiFi connection drops and I must go to WiFi settings and it riactivate itself.

Are you sure this was working on Froyo?
From my experience I can say this was the same with 2.2 (Desire stock ROM).
Not really sure this is a bug btw. If I tell my device it can use 3G networks I think I should expect it to switch to 3G as soon as Wi-Fi signal becomes unreliable...

Yes this is the right behavior, but when WiFi drops, if I go in WiFi settings, my device automatically reestablish the wifi connection. This seems a bug!
Also got the same problem here.
I tried to change radio to 5.17.05.23 and i've changed wifi advanced settings to improve wifi signal, but the problem is the same. When wifi signal is poor, it drops and I must go in wifi settings to reestablish connection.

I don't think I can do that with my university internet... and it shouldnt be the channels, the phone seems to be the problem, more specifically the ROM
I'm having this problem also. Until Insertcoin 2.0.1 it was ok. Since the first GB releases Wifi drops much earlier than before if the signal gets worser .. atm I'm using Insertcoin GB 1.0.3

Yes there are many places, that I know, my Wifi is working flawlessly with Froyo ROMs (eg. my bed, in the back of my garden or the wc at work ), and where is no connection, or where I have to connect manually with GB ROMs.
I was wondering,ifI this is a issue with my phone only ... but it seems not
Is there a fix for this available?
I'm having this problem also. I'm using InsertCoin GB 1.0.3
With Insertcoin 1.0.5 and Blade wifi fix (downloaded from market) the the situation has improved, but the problem has not yet been resolved.
I got the same problem with WiFi dropping when 3g is on. Also with leedroid 2.3 my 3g was off but connected by itself when there was no WiFi around. With Insertcoin its not working.
Same issue here with Oxygen 2.1.3 and Radio 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08.
Cant confirm if its 3G related or not. WiFi connection was stable for 10min with 2g only. Another 10min with 3g enabled and i've got a disconnect again.
I've the same problem since upgarding to GB ROM.
I found a fix for Desire S - see link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051674
Any chance to have the same for Desire?
Thank you
Moshe
had the phone over a year now, never had an issue before.
As soon as you turn on the portable wifi hotspot, i loose the 3g/h symbol from the top of the screen and from that no data conectivity?
and as sopon as you turn the wifi hotspot off, it regains an internet conection
Any ideas, ive not installed any apps recently, as far as i can remember?
Do you get an internet connection when another device connects to your phone's wifi hotspot.
If you are able to connect, then it must be working, as it's the 3G signal that the phone uses to connect the wifi to the internet. It might remove the icon, but if you can connect then it's fine.
nope, can conect my ipad to the DHDs hotspot but no internet.
the same for when i turn the hotspot on, cant brouse anything on the phone as no data conection
still not sorted this, anyone else got a aide or something to sort this?
First post (longtime lurker)
I've got the same problem here although this has only started happening in the last couple of days. The phone's data connection is fine until you enable the wifi hotspot at which point the connection is dropped to the phone, connecting any devices to the phone is fine, they get an IP address and can ping the phone directly, but beyond the phone there's nothing.
Rebooting the phone does not help.
The only app I've installed recently is Google Shopper.
Out of curiosity Fil what ROM are you using? I'm on RCMix3d Runny 3.0 which is based on Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3.5. I'm looking at switching to an ICS build pretty soon.
It also looks like we're on the same network although I think that's just coincidence.
yep sounds exactly the same issue,
as for rom, still on t-mobiles original 2.50.110.5 Adroid 2.3.3
was thinking of flashing something custom to see if it solved the problem
I've just flashed IceColdSandwich today at work (it's been a slow day!) and you'll be pleased to know that wireless tethering is working again. I'm on the train home as I type this. It's possibly something in the 2.3 image? I can't really say since we both had different ROMs (mine was a Sensation port). It could just be a bad bit of code in the gingerbread OS that produces this bug on rare occasions.
It may have something to do with the fact that T-Mobile and Orange allow you to roam on eachother's networks. Do you have roaming enabled?
To be honest I'm just stabbing wildly at possible causes here and a flash fixed it anyway. I went ICS but I don't think you'd have to go that extreme but flashing a new ROM overwrites whatever it is that caused this in the first place.
I'm just hoping it's fixed in ICS and won't happen again!
cheers, enabled data roaming, and it now works!
Since the issue, my batterys turned to crap! guessing thats the cause constantly jumping networks, and also data speeds have been very poor lately, was ok when just t-mobile, but orange is poor!
Off to the t-mobile foeums to see if its just me, or others!
Hello everyone,
since the 4.1.1 update my HOX is behaving weird on WiFi, the signal is always strong, so I doubt it is a hardware fault. But even though the signal is excelent, the throughput seems to be very limited most of the time. Restarting WiFi sometimes helps for a limited time, sometimes doesn't help.
I tried all options on my phone and it didn't help. Switched my WiFi to 5GHz only, also didn't help.
My device is stock on 4.1.1 with Hboot 1.39 and Relocked. I use an AVM Fritz Box 7270v3 as a router.
Anyone with the same expirience?
Regards
Let me guess! Software number 3.18.401.1 ?

Since I updated, FoxFi/PDA Net+ stopped working.

I'm on a 3.19 based ROM atm. At home the situation improved a little. The throughput is poor, but at least a tiny bit of internet makes it through.
At a friends house, my HOX even manages to kill the WiFi throughput for other devices in the network until I restart the router.
For me setting a static i.p for my HOX seems to have improved the Wifi signal on JB. Maybe give that a try?

same for me, very stable connection.
Got a problem since this weekend, it won’t connect to my home wifi anymore.
It’s going in a loop of: Authenticating, Obtaining IP address, then it says poor wifi connection and starts again..
But the signal strength is excellent, I’m standing a few feet away from the router.
My other phone and tablet have no problem. And I didn’t change anything on my oneX that could explain this.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Try turning off 'Avoid Poor Connections' in Adnaced WiFi settings.....
There's no such setting.
I tried to setup a static IP address, phone then connects, but act like it's not (can't connect to any server,etc...)
I'll try to connect to another wifi somewhere and see if it does the same.

So I was able to fix my problem and get wifi back on my phone by rebooting the router
I don't get it, why all of a sudden it stopped working, while everything else connected was working fine
Guess I should have started with that...
Anyway, thanks y'all for your help, always appreciated
After trying variuos ROMs (2 variants of Sense ROMs and this CM11 one) I am still unable to avoid a serious and quite known problem: when connected to Wifi my battery drains fast. After installing BBS I noticed that the phone doesn't go into deep sleep. Something is keeping it awake. The strange thing about this issue is that just a few of the HOX's seem to be affected. I'm curious what do you guys think about it and maybe you have some advices? I really love my HOX, but this is shortening my battery life too much. I'd rather try everything before selling the device. Thank you in advance.
I attached a BBS log. With current settings (location reporting and stuff) if I disable Wifi everything is ok.

P.S. Also tried relocking, reflashing firmware, unlocking then flashing custom ROM but still no luck...

I'm having this problem with my home & office router. Didn't have the chance to test with other routers. I keep wifi on at all times but once the connection to the wifi network is closed, problem is gone. It must be in the software somewhere because my router is way older than the problem. Maybe with the update to JB HTC broke compat with some routers or their settings? Who knows... My wife has the HTC Desire 500 and she doesn't have this issue.
