The new builds are rather RAM greedy so hard with Chome or Manila, with the pixel problem. Thz new builds have very interesting new features, but not fully optimized, the code takes too much RAM for now. Personally I am waiting for same build features but more efficient. That's how I see things for now

And 23036?
Why MS doesnt create Virtual Memory for Windows Mobile?
Page file with 64MB is great for this devices

Looking for the fastest manila 2d ROM

Hello because the low RAM on trinity im looking for the simpliest ROM (Only basic apps) with manila2D.
I tried a lot of roms and the fastest was cme 0.9 BETA which has a lot of issues.
Can someone help me?
I would definutly recommend this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=472178
its Team CV93+Oggi (CE OS 5.2.21014.1.6.0) Manila2D and there is a ultra-lite version, I have been using it for about a week (full ROM) and it is fast - stable and im sure the lite versions will be even faster.
Sorry I cant give more details
PDAViet TRINITY WM6.1 ROM V44 - Build 20748.1.4.0 (Manila2D) is mine tip, download and password is PhamQuang

Hi Snake_A.
The simplest Manila2D ROM (i.e. with the lowest number of potentially not needed add ons) that I have found is nosedive's latest:
[ROM][WWE][4/2/2009]n073e+i (CE OS 5.2.20769 build20769.1.4.5) [ONLINE]
It's faster than any others I have tried and has no issues (apart from psshut not letting you turn the device competely off). Bear in mind that speed on any Rom will depend on what you add after the flash. Reducing the number of Manila2D tabs (using m2Dc customiser) and switching off Manila2D during use of applications like TomTom and Internet Exploring does help.
Chanvi's pre-Iolite/Footprint ones are excellent too, but have more add ons (which you may not need, depending on personal preference). (Chanvi leads the way in Iolite/Footprint experimentation, but so far they seem to use more memory than previous versions.)
Both the above cooks are very active in the Trinity forum and always answer any problems. There are other great cooks who are also opening doors with their work and well worth testing their Roms, but if you are after simplicity and stability, I recommend nosedive or chanvi at the moment.
Hope this helps you and others,
Mattster.
I'm starting to miss Manila2D... I hope some updated Manila2D Roms come out soon.

Hi Philocritus.
I have been thinking of trying that, but to tell you the truth I don't like the iconic start menu in Windows 6.5. I prefer the list format start menu of 6.1.
I have just flashed the 21042 6.1 full manila ROM from chanvi's Kitchen. Do you know how it compares to the latest 6.5 build?

Mattster my friend, welcome back..
I have tried both 6.1 and 6.5 in various options. Summary:
1. 6.1 or 6.5 makes no difference as far as speed. It is all CPU/clocking dependent. they both slow down the same with heavy graphics, and suffer the same behavior. It's all in the hardware..
2. Size of page pool makes a difference for speeds. But it is a trade off between free RAM and speed. It is depending what your needs are. again- 6.1 or 6.5 is not making a difference . Some claim 6.5 is slower, but really in order to say that one needs to compare apples with apples. two different ROMS are , by definition, apple and orange.
3. Try WM6.5 by Chanvi. Give it 72 hours before you give up on the bee hive you hate. After you get used to it, and to the slick movement of it, you will have hard time going back to the dull WM6.1 menus.
4. You will have to forget about 'dirty Harry' pose with the stylus in the mouth. Menus are SOOOOOOO finger friendly my stylus is rusting in its place inside the phone. No WM6.1 has this kind of GUI. Not even if artificially trying to add finger friendly menus. Even the X button on the upper right is thumb friendly !
5. Enjoy both worlds. Home2 now has an applet and theme that looks exactly as M2D. I have it installed on home2 and it's fun, not mentioning I go from analog to digital clock on the home tab in a flick of a finger. If you like the idea of home2 than install WM6.5 IE6Ultralite cause you really don't need CHome or M2D in the ROM. You will be surprised to get 28M free RAM and 79M free storage that way, and a phone faster than ever..

Hi bigE.
Thanks for the feedback. Most informative as always, and much appreciated. Funny you should mention the "Dirty Harry" look. I am somewhat famous for it in the office, and I tend to chew on my stylus continually...
On holiday, I had Manila2d and spb shell both turned off, and as a result I now find it irritatingly slow going back to them! I'll follow your suggestion this weekend: home2 with WM6.5 IE6Ultralite.
Is it worth me trying to cook home2 (it's freeware, no?) into the ROM using Chanvi's kitchen? Maybe you've done it already?
Mattster.
Best ROM that I ever have tested (and I have tested a lot of them) is:
[ROM][WWE] Windows Mobile 6.1 5.2.20270.1.3.1 Ver. 0.4.7.5 (Updated: 2009.04.04) by osavioro
Memory foot print with Home, Messages, E-mail, Settings and Programs tabs enabled in Manila2D:
Storage:
Total: 43.67MB
In Use: 23.67MB
Free: 20.00 MB
Program:
Total: 48.68MB
In Use: 29.56MB
Free: 19.12MB
iGO8 works like a charm. Fast with lot of usefull applications. Dont forget to install Manila customizer so you can disable unwanted tabs and save some memory.
No problems at all.

Worth trying, if you know how.. I didn't. One comment though- there is a non official release of the home2 free (you need to do some reading) where Joel made the home2.exe file use storage memory to dump graphics files. that made home2 work in 90% speed it was before, but free RAM is 4-5M bigger. If you think of cooking home2 I would like to know how you do it.. I have no clue how to take a cab and add it into the kitchen..

I gave up on home2 since it sucked the battery dry in one day! plus it was a very memory hungry app... maybe just maybeeeee i'll return to it when that exe is stable.
miss home1 btw... 1.2 was in my opinion on of the best UI around, and still is my favorite behind m2d

a lot of these roms have problems with a program called activesync-killer (or askiller or askilla or something like that) running in the background and conflicting with quickGPS
IIRC some of the roms had a problem with activesync constantly running and taking over processes so askiller was installed into the roms to stop this happening but it then stopped quickGPS running properly.
dont know if this rom has the same thing because i haven't tried it yet, but it might be worth you searching the forum for something like that
I don't know for the battery, free memory after boot with Tflo is 12mb and 19mb without.
But the most important change is the start menu, the most faster than i see on all rom 6.5 tested before.
Nice work, Thanks DEVELOPER
Hi guys, what is the camera version for this rom???
Thanks in advance
thanks guys, camera version and storage space?
ok, i'm beginning to like this rom after my initial disappointment with ram.
IE is a new build as it has the latest version of zoom.
the camera is the old camera though.
A good new version of Diamond's dialler.
i've selected a new background for my today screen and switched off Touchflo 2D. Battery performing well.
the honeycomb takes some getting used to but all essental programs have been included.
Icons are lovely.
CoPilot Gps runs ok so far.
this one could be a keeper...
Ty for this rom
Ty men its realy nice work i think best 6.5 beta what i have tested its so good i not change this rome for next time in notes 3+ or -2 imuss test few days
@cooker:footprints not work withe manila , manila will not start withe footprints.

Excellent Cook !
How can i make to have Favorites.
I switch off TouchFlo,
But i would have to have Favorites number.

I guess there is a yet lot work to do with 6.5 rom.
It still realy slow for everyday use.
But good work.

No more Windows 6.1?

Now that all new ROMS are being cooked with Windows 6.5, I wonder if those of us that prefer 6.1 have finally reached the end of our Trinity journey.
Personally, as a user of SPB Mobile Shell 3.1, I really don't need the memory expense of a flashy start menu with icons, or an extended scrolling today page. As a result, I have now been using the same ROM (the excellent Team CV93+Oggi's WM6.1 21042 UltraLite) for a record period of time! I guess as always it boils down to personal preference, but... is that the end of the road for new build 6.1 ROMS?

No,
Just cook a rom whithout chome (or disable the plugin in today screen)...
For start menu, you will need to install quickmenu.
If you don't want the new themes (scroll bars etc...), use a tsk from a 6.1 theme

Of course, wm6.5 eats more ram but you have a more finger friendly os... fex
Whith chanvi's kitchen whith the cab for quickmenu and removing honeycomb he gets 23MB ram free. Also, if you delete all png related to themes you should gain some more ram...
I'm only saying that you can get a 6.5 rom whith 6.1 UI...
I'm using TomTom so whith 21MB RAM free (my own build 23001 whith CHOME plus everything I need) I'm really happy

Hi mac_es,
Yes, I tried this but eventually had the sensation that all I was doing was turning a 6.5 into a 6.1, so then I thought... why not just stick with 6.1?!
Interesting hearing peoples comments though.
I guess one big factor is if the user wants (like most of us) for their device to have the latest technology (which is why we're all addicted to flashing!).
The votes are fairly 50:50 so far.
Mattster.
I am biased towards WM6.5
Hi Friend,
I urge you to try Chanvi's recent 23001... Dude- it is both smart, quick, well managed memory, and the kitchen is awesome.
None of the WM6.1 I used to flash was not that good. i am sire oggi will come up with a superb WM6.1 and it is most likely be as good as the WM6.5, however, I find it hard to believe you still use Win98 right? XP was a natural way to go, and WM7 will be the next thing (ignore Vista for the analogy..)
Same is with WM6.5 in a year from now I wish you a new phone (WVGA and lots of RAM) but if you will still have trinity for any reason (I will probably keep it) then Wm6.5 is the closest to the new generation phones.
BigE
PS: I voted W6.5 and now it is not 50:50 ..
Hi to all
I liked very much the Rom's of Team CV93+Oggi.
The 21042 is fantastic concerning free Rom. The 6.5 Rom are also great and with QM the free Rom is not bad.
But with this roms and no additional SW I have had some problems:
1. when I made a call from a fix net to my trinity than the display appears only after 1-2 beeps on the fix phone and then it takes another beep before my trinity start to ring
2. sometimes I had missed call/sms but good network
The only solution for me was to install SPB Phone Suite to be rememered all 5 minutes for missed calls or sms.
Now I'm back to good old 017TNYSTD:
1. before I can hear first beep on fixnet phone the dispaly goes on and with first beep or a little later my trinity rings, also with many additional SW
Do you have the same expirience?
My favourite rom would be 21042 because of the free space (iGO8) but the phone part of my Trinity has to be 100% working.
Do you have an idea?
@Oggi,
could it be fixed on new 21042

How to get the ROM "Team CV93+Oggi's WM6.1 21042 UltraLite"
I've had a few people IM me asking where I got this ROM from, so I thought I'd post the answer here:
To get this ROM you need to "create" it using Chanvi's Kitchen. Don't worry, it's not really "create", it's just selecting it and hitting a button. Follow these steps:
1. Scroll down to POST 2 of the thread below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=513421
There you will see a link for WM 6.1 Kitchen AND Emulator WM 6.5 from MS. Click on 21042 WM 6.1 WWE+FRA Kitchen for Trinity [/B]
If you prefer, just click on the following link:
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=5330c72c2c98e20d7069484bded33bcd48c3279b870421d7
2. Download and save the Kitchen zip to your desktop. Once downloaded open it up and copy the folder inside to your desktop.
3. Open the foldfer and click on Ervius Kitchen exe.
A box will appear.
4. Re-select Trinity (important to do this) then select the ultralite rom in the drop down menu on the right.
5. Click on the Create Rom.
6. Whilst the ROM is being put together, connect your device via usb to get Active Sync going. When the ROM is ready, the familiar flash screen will appear and I guess you know it from there!
Any problems give me a shout.
Mattster.

Thanks for the post.
If you use iGO8, user "BigE" could have a lot of good advice for you. He is somewhat of an expert at tweaking the Trinity to work well iGO8, even with a 6.5 ROM. He speaks very well of Chanvi's recent 23001.
That said, the votes for users of just Windows 6.1 vs users of just 6.5 are at present 50:50, plus there are other users who enjoy both. Interesting stuff.

hi Mattster_spv, i guess we are somewhat similar. a fast naked rom with simple UI. i have voted wm6.1 for this reason. i guess our trinity is not a good candidate to run wm6.5. i still preferred the good old htc home than chome (too many steps). i'm a big fan of finixnover and chanvi & oggi. my device still running th elast cooked rom of finix's. it would definitely make my day if the great cooker would just keep on updating wm6.1 rom. thanks.

I totally agree. The only real reason I don't use Finix's last light rom is that it's too black. Looks great but sometimes hard to see in the sun. Such a shame he broke his Trinity!

I recommend you visit and try SafeMode 3.1. See www.monocube.com
I have only 10M free RAm when i use the phone as Phone/PDA. When i want to use iGO I reset the phone, and start it in 'safe mode'. Than I run iGO with freaking 31M free RAM although i have WM6.5 !!!!!!!!!
I enjoy both worlds- tons of free RAm when needed for iGO, or beautiful GUI, graphics and features otherwise. For whom who thinks Trinity can not deal with WM6.5 - I was that pesimistic too, until Chanvi the great proved me wrong...

WM 6.5 versus 6.1 speed?

WM 6.5 looks great! but is it faster than 6.1? I'm currently using Schap's WM6.1 and looking forwarding to an OS upgrade if it provides better speed performance. In addition, which ROM will provide a minimum of 20mb program after load. Thank you for the input
ive used the 6.1 roms for a long time decided to change to a 6.5 rom but i had problems with it such as memory shortage and i didnt like a lot of programs on it. i didnt find it any quicker so have changed back to a 6.1 rom which i prefer. as for choosing a good rom your going to have to flash and look through lots of different roms to find one you like or cook one your self.
Have fun
The core of the 6.5 system is faster than of 6.1 - the problem is how many of those various additions are cooked in. If too many, or badly cooked ROM - as a whole it's slower - but if unnecessary things are removed it's a faster system. The RAM is more problematic - it needs more of it, but after removing some elements and reediting others you can get 25 to even 29 MB of free RAM on 6.5
WM6.5 vs 6

WM 6.5 looks great! but is it faster than 6.1? I'm currently using Schap's WM6.1 and looking forwarding to an OS upgrade if it provides better speed performance. In addition, which ROM will provide a minimum of 20mb program after load. Thank you for the input

As far as i understand Schaps 4.31 is based on WM version 6 not 6.1 so damikey question should be restated. I havent tried 6.5, maybe when becomes official, so cant answer your question, but I have read in this forum that version 6 core is faster than 6.1... WM6.5 vs 6

No! Absolutely not.
WM6.1 is the most fast and responsive ROM right now, while WM5 was the worst one. WM6 was way better than WM5, but it's slower and less stable than 6.1.
Wm6.5? It depends, as I said before... its core is faster than 6.1 - but UI is just bigger and more resources-hungry.

Do you think using that dll in dev and hacking forum we can increase the speed? maybe with that... we could edit all the icons in dlls and Theme to make it faster than the hell... but i cant figured out how to use it... cause we must to sacrifice a little megabytes of storage.
utak3r rigth...didnt know that, thanks. I have read months ago about unstability problems in 6.1 but maybe the threads were just outdated or google trick me into thinking that. I havent tried myself, just know rigth now about WM5 and 6. So I which a lite stripped down version of 6.5 even without Titanium if were possible just with honey like programs menu to make trials and see how it feels in day to day use and not only by benchmark results... something like that exists rigth now or is in development?
Maybe you or +Que PPC or other chef can do it !!!!!????? would be awesome

Still with doubts I did a quick search and the thread wasnt that old. Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=496318 some people disagree with the fact that 6.1 is faster. I saw the benchmarks for hermes (dont have the link rigth now) for different cooked ROMs and results were similar between WM6 and 6.1 with the same pagepool.
IMHO maybe as you say the 6.1 CORE could be faster (!?) but some other issues (like only 64mb RAM in Hermes) could make some people FEEL like its slower with their configurations and stick to WM6 or make a jump al the way to 6.5. Its just a thought. damikey only concern is performance and memory in his post, because he have Schaps which is a very stable ROM IMO, but stability, now that you mentioned it, would be another issue (not offtopic). I know you have lot of more experience than me and as I have the same doubt as damikey would be interesting to know about this a little more. I need my tytn as a phone so dont want to flash every week. Thanks again.

Diamond Hardware and Win 6.5

can Touch Diamond run windows 6.5? or is it powerful enough to run it?
enough RAM to run and ROM to store?
And is it fast enough?

If you talking about the Orginial one then i guess we will have to wait on that however the cooked ROM's here for 6.5 cooked by our own chefs works great on the Diamond and they are pretty fast too.
Dont Judge Diamond by its size
for official rom i believe that we wont get it, but thats why there are so many cooked 6.5roms!

Except for the shortage of sufficient free RAM (Prog Mem) there is absolutely no problem.
Storage/processor etc are all sufficient enough for running the WM 6.5 ROMs. Try one available on this forum and experience yourself..
Ya, The official ROM has a big question-mark against it...
Officially - No, I really doubt it.
Unofficially - Yes the Diamond Cooked ROMs work very good and have enough RAM

How do I free RAM, I just installed 6.5 with TF3D (not even Manila 2.5) on my Diamond and it is slow. I had to empty the pictures folder on the device and store them in internal storage for the album to work. It kept saying there isn't enough memory. And it seems the accelerometer (screen rotator) doesn't work.

Unfortunately I've found I have to use a pretty minimalist rom. The two I have used which I don't need to restart several times a day due to low memory are Windows Revolution and Windows 6.5 Clean Basic. These can both handle TF3D but again recommendations are to turn off all the features that make it look good (e.g. dialler).
Wm 6.1 isn't better in this regard. It's just an underpowered device so you have to make compromises.
