i have a tmobile TP2 and im curious to see what ROMS are compatible with my phone so far. Im assuming this is the same TP2 as the European one? Mine doesnt look anything like the picture for the Rhodium section here.
If im in the wrong part of town id appreciate some directions....

Its the TP2. T-mobile thought it would be a good idea to design their own case for the TP2. So you say you have a TP2 for the US...interesting...where did you get it?
I have a T-Mobile USA TP2 aswell, unfortunately since there is no HardSPL available atm there are no roms to flash. I still haven't decided whether the design change was a good choice on T-Mobile's part and makes me wish they tinkered a bit more and added a 3.5mm jack
you both have a USA T-mobile Tp2? wtf, how?

I work for Tmo. I was fortunate enough to aquire a TP2 as well as a myTouch about 3 weeks ago. Im one of the "myTouch Champions" (sales reps selected to own the device before launch to increase excitement about the device)
And i attended a HTC event a couple weeks ago and out of about 50 people there, 5 of us walked out with TP2's. Needless to say i was pretty stoked
Both great devices, but im hoping to get WM 6.5 on the TP2 asap, unless theres anything better floating around out there.
As for the myTouch, i gather that were pretty close to finding a way to root it, so im looking forward to that
For any naysayers...

Nice!
Just wait for HardSPL and then you should see the floodgate open with lots of ROM, including 6.5WM and probably with TouchFlo 2.5.
Any GSM rom should be compatible with the ATT Forteress,T-Mo TP2 and Europe's T7373.
sweet, i cant wait. Does the TP2 need to be "rooted" like the G1? The extent of my knowledge is based on the experience i have with that. Im assuming the TP2 isnt linux based like the G1 so im assuming the whole process is quite different.
That is amazingly cool! Is there any chance you can post a picture of the back of the phone? I'm really curious to see what they've done to the camera/speakerphone side.
Also as a heads up I noticed a couple of people on Ebay selling the TMobile version and am wondering how they got theirs already or if they are scams?
Yeah quite different.
The HardSPL is needed to let you flash any ROM from anyone. Normally you would be restricted to T-Mo's Rom.
I'm not the best to explain everything and frankly I don't fully understand every details but I can point you to some very interesting read that should get you started/prepared for the nice journey ahead =)
What's a SPL

How to flash your phone ( !! For touch pro 1 !!) should be very similar for TP2!

Enjoy
By the way, have there been any reviews detailing the differences between the European and TMobile versions? Did the TMobile version get extra/different features and/or buttons? Did it get the headphone jack?

here ya go
as far as the camera and speakerphone, both are good, i wish they would have gone for a 5MP at least tho. 3.2 is getting kind of antiquated.
The speakerphone as an awesome feature, while on a call when you place the phone down, speaker facing up, it automatically goes to speakerphone, and turns off when you pick it back up, very cool!
also it locks the screen when you place the phone to your ear, and unlocks it as you pull it away.
theres a lot of little neat features they threw in there, not sure if this is old news or not, im more of an android guy. for now...
as for the ebay listings, who knows, when i got mine, i had to sign a letter agreeing that i wouldnt sell it, or let anyone else have it. if any of those listings are from tmo reps, they need to watch their ass, tmo is tracking the IMEI's of these and knows who has them. im not looking for that kind of trouble, and i like my job.

im not familiar with the Euro version but the US version has the following buttons; 4 on the front (talk, home, back, end), volume up and down, speakerphone mute on the back, and power on the top. still no 3.5, just mini usb, but thats nothing those handy dandy power/3.5 adapters can fix
Is that still running WM 6.1, or does it have 6.5? Some Verizon person on Engadget said the Verizon test units were running 6.1 and didn't have a 3.5mm jack, but the final production versions would have 6.5 and a 3.5mm jack so maybe the t-mobile models will be similar (retail model will have 3.5, maybe). Of course, maybe not...
It's running 6.1 for sure.
First HTC with winmo 6.5 will be the Tachi.
MS stated that if a phone has the windows button, it will get 6.5 upgrade.
Anyway nothing a cooked ROM can't fix.
Edit: Oh and forget about 3.5mm on this one. So far only CDMA device and maybe one Australian Carier will have 3.5mm
I too have the T-mobile TP2
It currently runs on Windows Mobile 6.1...how long or what is the process of getting the HardSPL??

Yeah but apparently prototype Verizon units don't have the 3.5mm either, but the final production ones will (according to all current rumors) so that can definitely change.
yes its on 6.1. i asked the HTC rep about 6.5 and he told me ultimately it will be up to tmo whether a update of 6.5 will be pushed to the handsets after launch. and from what he alluded to, tmo us will more than likely be getting a different device with 6.5 sometime before or around the end of the year.
it does not have a 3.5, and will not have a 3.5, the model i have is the final production model. it came in the tmo branded packaging and all so im sure they wont be changing anything.

not sure where the ATT TP2 thread disappeared to, but i couldn't find it so im making a new thread.
On that old thread, their was a reveal of the Fortress, AT&T's version of the Touch Pro 2, with a funky keyboard.
I found something today that *might* suggest they are screwing it up *that* badly.
On Engadget, they show the T-Mobile version of the TP2 here...

They also show it lower on the page, however the 2nd image has the color scheme of the earlier leaked Fortress with the red keyboard, which leads me to believe this 2nd photo might actually BE the fortress.
If you look closely at the red keyboard, you'll see its more like the original TP2 layout, only red.
What do you guys think?
I'm pretty sure the thread went quietly into the dark night since we all managed to beat the topic into a small pile of dust.
To reiterate:
The phone image is nothing more than a mockup.
The specifications next to the image of a four row keyboard SPECIFY a 5 row keyboard.
It was an internal document which is pretty much not subject to analysis since AT&T employees won't recognize the phone even after it's released and in their hands with a sticker telling them "THIS IS THE HTC FORTRESS".
looks like the tmobile touch pro 2 is mess up to look at the buttons under the screen it looks like it pops up making it look cheap
yea the way the T-MO's TP2 looks makes it look like some cheap LG phone. the buttons look too cheap.
it would be nice if AT&T actually followed the specifications set down by HTC, and kept the 5-row offset keyboard config. I don't really mind the red keyboard, I just want the 5-row offset.
i on the other hand kinda bothered by the red keyboard but i think the new layout is pretty cool but i do want them to have the keyboard spacing like the original rather than close like tilt and fuze. we just have to wait for the release or some sneak pic snap shot...either way im most likely gonna buy it.
well, the point of this topic isnt to yank out the dead horse that is if the other pic of the keyboard is real or not, but rather to question if the pic i posted, is the fortress, or the Wing 2. The article stated it was for T-mobile, but the color scheme, and the pic above it suggest otherwise.
the first pic that lyian posted looks like the t-mo version of the TP2. not only because it says t-mobile on the device but because hardware buttons on the front of the device resemble the ones in the pic I posted earlier.
I'm gonna get the phone either way, but like jtoyz2 said, I hope the keyboard is offset and spaced rather than close together like on the tilt and fuze. it just looks so much better spaced out like that!

Hope it start shipping soon !
i got some news from a friend of mine saying that the phone gonna release 6-8 weeks after the Iphone 3g S, because they dont want another similar (touch screen smartphone) to release in the same time frame as the iphone. Most likely sometime in August we should see it but before September for ATT. I cant wait just around the time that im due for a upgrade.
Too bad.
It was forecasted for June.
So more 2 months of wait.
I would buy today.

I think I might keep my options open though. If an Android phone surprisingly comes to ATT before the TP2, I think I might go with that.
Unless someone can convince me otherwise...
I read somewhere that the first android device coming out for AT&T is the lancaster?? I don't know for sure tho. I saw a spread sheet that was similar to what everyone saw when the "fortress" was unveiled, and it had "AT&T at the bottom right corner. but cmon, a 2.8 inch QVGA screen??
I saw an ATT TP2 in the wild
Hey all,
Well I saw an AA&T branded Touch Pro 2 on the weekend. The Guy that has it works for HTC in the USA and it looked exactly the same as the HTC version, (not red) with the AT&T branding on it. He said release wont be until Aug, which falls in line with the delay due to the IPhone 3GS release, he thought AT&T where going to be the last of the USA carries to release.
Just my 2 cents worth

That's great news! Just to clarify, when you say it looked exactly the same as the HTC version, you mean that it had the full 5 row qwerty and not the number pad on the side, right?
Also, did you happen to notice if it had a front facing camera?
Thanks.
I don't think our model will have the front-facing camera on it, since AT&T doesn't support video calling at the moment. but maybe, cos of all the rumors that video calling might become available for the iphone...why not the TP2???
and that's great news that it looks like the HTC branded model!!! +1 on evermore, how did the keyboard look???

Same here. All I know is that we have pictures of the phone for every other provider EXCEPT ATT. Considering how pics get released of basically every phone on every provider way before the phone is released, I don't see how even September is possible at this point.
Although I would love for the phone to come out tomorrow, i just don't see it happening soon and it seems ATT will be the last of the providers to release it.

seriously...
if that's the case, then AT&T is the BEST keeper of secrets ever. lol.
seriously tho, I really wish we had some sort of picture or SOMETHING to keep us going until the actual release. BESIDES that old mockup and the fact that it passed the FCC a while back.
i remember the fuze came out exactly 3 months after fcc approval...the only picture we haveof that was from a personal user that bought the unit for 700 so he claim...n we did not see any other pic until a week or two before it was release
so hopefully we see the touch pro 2 fortress august 24th or september 4th...i remember on one of the thread some guy actually seen a touch pro 2 with att tatted on the top but he didnt take a picturedamn al we need is a picture it can release in oct i just want a picture..
How many more of these Fortress release threads are we gonna have to suffer through? At this point I won't believe anything without solid proof. (pics, pics of documents)
I don't remember the release of the Tilt or Fuze being this shrouded in secrecy. I'm really starting to get worried...
and you had to make a whole another thread for this? sigh
topaz rom has been leaked so we know atleast that is coming out...waiting for rhodium rom to leak then we should be good
Would it be too much to ask AT&T, since they've taken their time while T-mobile (AUG 12), Sprint (SEP 3), and Verizon ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFDwqvWbogw ), to make this thing worth the wait. I know it's a CDMA phone, but that Verizon phone is exactly how I wish AT&T's could look. But we all know, that is unlikely. The longer the wait, the more I feel like this thing is going to be messed up.

im sure the ATT exterior design will be just like the europe version maybe different material but design and button front and back should be the same...only thing will change is the keyboard im sure will be different...Topaz will look exactly the same as Europe though thanks to no keyboard...we will see that sometime end of this year or early next...6.5 pre loaded on their...i wonder if ATT want to wait and pre load Touch Pro 2 with 6.5 and Manila 2.5 that be worth the wait...
i jusyt played with the Tmobile version (its out on 12th), and boy is it ugly compared to the HTC version. A nasty bronze, and it has nasty silvery buttons. They also have an inferior version of touchflo, with the standard WM6 menu on start. and no 3.5mm jack. very dissappointing. Makes me think twice about getitng it.
i went to my local att store for uverse information and i was playing around with the fuze i then went yesterday to order the uverse and the fuze was gone so i asked the sales rep what happened to the fuze and he said that they arent selling it any more because they are getting a new htc phone in a couple of weeeks i asked what was the name of the phone and he said he thought it was the warhawk but now i wonder if it may be the touch pro 2 becuse i thought the warhwk was going to be released later with 6'5

wow great find!! yea I doubt that it could be the Warhawk...every source I've read says the TP2 will hit AT&T before the TD2. I HOPE HOPE HOPE it's the TP2!!!
I'm not about to start holding my breath after hearing so many different release dates, no use in getting your hopes up just to be let down. I honestly think that Att is trying to keep their beloved new "iPhone 3Gs" in the lime-light for as long as possible, they don't want any other device stealing the show away from their pride and joy. However, a Sept. release would be great, much better than the rumored Oct. release. Even if it isn't released in Sept. I'd atleast want some hard evidence as to what the Fortress will actually look like so I can decide whether or not to wait another month or just jump ship.

OK. So you guys had me all ready to pull the trigger on the Tilt 2. And now I see the LG Expo online at ATT (I am stuck with ATT because I am an employee). The Expo seems very comparable to the Tilt 2 and so I did more research. And now I am thoroughly undecided about which to get. I watched this demo video on youtube and am very intrigued. Also check out this one.
I am hoping some of you Tilt 2 users who also know about the LG Expo can give me your insight.
Below is what I have found as far as pros and cons for both. I have a spreadsheet below where I compared what I think are the most important features. I highlighted in green what I thought were clear advantages for both. And by the way, the projector for the LG is not a consideration for me...cool...but not for me.
Tilt 2 Winners: Larger screen, better keyboard, seemingly much better battery, incredible speaker phone functionality, and of course the tilting screen function
LG Expo Winners: 1 ghz processor, 5.0 MP camera, seemingly awesome touch sensor directional pad and fingerprint scanner, SD card accessible on side, HSPA 7.2 capable (but I do not consider this an advantage because by the time AT&T can actually provide that throughput, all phones will have it), S-class user interface (LG version of TF3D - it seems very customizable).
Tilt 2 Losers: No D-pad (I am a big one-handed user and I live on my d-pad), poor SD card access, zoom bar (from my experience the Zoom bar is a dud and thus a waste of space), giant audio adapter.
LG Losers: Battery, battery, battery (this could be a deal breaker...it needs more real world testing), no 3.5 jack.

You might to add one more item to the Tilt 2's pro column: Latest and greatest custom ROMs by a lot of chefs.
I don't think that you'll have too many ROMs to flash (and the increased risk because there is no HardSPL for it) for the LG Expo.
I am jealous about the 1Gig processor though.
Anything LG is a loser in my opinion. Small electronics to appliances, their products and support blows.
Here we go again...
Entering to a Nike store and asking which is better from Nike and Rebook...
What will be the answer?
Seriously, even if lg has bigger processor I won´t trust in any other brand than HTC
Also XDA great support makes HTC to be my choice
battery talk time 8hrs vs 3.5hrs??? wth, is that a typo?? that would decide for me
I have never used my TP2 to talk 8hrs to test that but I can tell you my battery under a normal usage lasts almost 2 days
I´m quite happy with my Rhodium!!
in almost every way the htc device is better. it may not be better for you. but asking opinions in an very htc forum in a section where owners of the htc device look wont score opinions in the lgs favor. what ever device you wanna buy, buy it. but everyone here will say htc.
Hey ChasDun, I think this is more of the response you're looking for. I am also an ATT user and as far as smartphones I started with the Blackjack, went to the first Tilt, Fuze, now the Tilt2. Before I bought either of these phones I did a LOT of research to determine which, at the time, was a better phone.
The reason I just purchased the Tilt2 was because not only can you load custom ROMs which is a ridiculously huge advantage over most other non-HTC phones. Along with that, the Tilt2 has everything where it counts, and as a result it excells in operation, both as a phone and all the other operation. With the new 6.5.3 Windows Mobile everything is fast, smooth and stable enough to use as an everyday OS, as well as the fact that the performance of the phone is always getting better with every new build and driver that is released.
So in the end, if you purchase the LG, you're getting less function, a little more performance and a LOT less battery. So if this makes any sense, HTC = Function and other brands are still learning what it takes to build a really functional smartphone. (Unlike any other phone I've ever had, I use all the buttons on the Tilt2)
The lack of a directional pad isn't a big deal since the onscreen keyboard has one, but that is one of my few complaints about the phone (but I'm already over it)
In the end, though, I have to be fair and say I'm maybe a little bit biased because I couldn't imagine how much better the Tilt2 was an improvement over the Fuze, but for whatever reason the performance and functionality are a few steps over the Fuze.
Hope this helps!
Thanks to those of you who gave thoughtful answers. I know it's too early to tell how good or bad the LG will be. But I know that many of you on here are way more informed about new devices like this than I am. I also am very aware that posting this in the xda forums is going to have an HTC bias. But that's what I want. I have owned a half dozen HTCs over the years and I am basically wanting to hear some strong reasons why I should take the Tilt over the eXpo. But most people on here are also intelligent enough to admit the cons of the Tilt as well as the potential pros of another device like the LG.

I hear ya on that. I have taken advantage of these in the past. Unfortunately since this will be my ATT work phone I won't be able to flash new ROMs on my Tilt 2.

Jack, in your extensive use of the LG eXpo you found that that the Tilt was better in almost every way? Elaborate? I have been frequenting these forums since my old Blue Angel days. I give most of the xda'ers more credit that they can give unbiased opinions and other insights that would be helpful in a case like this. Most of these guys are phone freaks and although HTC is king, many of them know a lot about devices in general.

Thanks Sellitus. It is exactly the type of response I was hoping for - actual facts and opinions based on experience. I don't think LG or ATT has done a good job marketing this phone. The TP2 is on every U.S. carrier so it got big buzz. But I think that the LG eXpo will slowly win a lot of people over with some of its fresh ideas (and again I am not alluding to the projector). I agree that HTC has the experience where it counts. My old Treo 750 still puts my friends' new iPhones and Blackberrys to shame with performance and versatility. But also, every HTC I have owned has had a few kinks worthy of improvement. So I am never going to turn a blind eye towards a newcomer. Basically the online reviews and demos will tell the story over the next few months. I want to believe that the LG can do everything that it touts as well as it says. I am glad to hear you say that the d-pad is not a hard issue to get past with the Tilt.
Hopefully others will chime in with their experiences. These 2 phones on AT&T are obviously marketed at the same audience with very little to differentiate them to the untrained eye.
the screen keyboard and battery life are all better. where it falls is the processor and camera. if you prefer the expo then go buy it. but you wont be convincing anyone here.

Jack, what about the LG keyboard did you think was inferior during your testing of the eXpo? Some of the hands-on reviews say the LG keyboard is the best part.
While I can't give you experience based on testing the eXpo, I can give you my experience on a non-LG WinMo phone.
My first WinMo phone was the Samsung SCH-i760. I loved it at first, and number pad was amazing for use in Excel, but once I wanted to customize it, it all went to crap.
S2U2 was buggy at best. I got it to work once, but when the touchscreen failed, I could not get it working on my next phone. It would drain the battery and crash constantly.
Next I tried GridLock. It crashed as well. Lock software just didn't agree with my phone at all.
I used to see my friends with their TP1s loving all these cool apps, and me stuck in the dust because my failure of a phone could barely run most of the XDA-Apps.
So, if I buy a WM phone, it's going to be an HTC, or a phone that has a lot of support from XDA, because I know the HTC phones have a huge following.
If you don't care about a lot of the apps that are posted here, and just want Opera Mini, Skyfire (which should be awesome on the 1 GHz Processor), and MortPlayer, then grab the LG; the projector is awesome! I happen to like LG phones. My mother and fiance have nothing but good things to say about them in terms of reliability and functionality.
I hope this helps.
the keyboard on the touch pro 2 is what makes the device. it has the best keyboard of any phone. much better than the lg expo.
honestly my past 3 phones were from htc. i had the 8125, the tilt and the fuze. now i just bought the lg expo got it this morning. im super glad i got this over the tilt 2. the tilt 2 is nice, it has a nice big screen, but i like the expo over it. the 1ghz processor is nice, it doesnt slow down when i run like 3 different programs at a time like my fuze did. and i did use custom roms, so far though this stock lg rom is better then any custom rom i used on my fuze. the speed is amazing. also the camera is much better then on the tilt 2. the keyboard is a bit different its not something im use to exactly but i will be in no time. i've been on this forum since my 8125 and it sucks that i cant get updates for the expo on here but im still happy with my phone regardless.

Nope, I'm a fan of "Vote with your money".
They certainly are different..my problem is similar!
I have gotten a LG IQ (the Canadian Equivalent of the eXpo) and I do like it. I am still within my 14 days, so may exchange it for a Touch Pro 2...it is a hard decision...
Comments on the eXpo:
to update your comparison
1) the docs and software DO support TV out but I haven't found a cable yet.
2) the FM radio is functional, but requires a headphone or TV out cable as the antenna.
The projector will be very cool I expect when it is released.
I have no complaints about the keyboard.
With the faster processor, the LG is heads and shoulders faster than the Touch Pro I replaced - and I am talking with new custom roms on the HTC product. The TP2 is slightly faster than the TP, but the Snapdragon frankly blows the slower processors away. Every program snaps in a way that it did not on the HTC.
The S Class UI is very different to the TF3D on the HTC but they both have their strengths and weaknesses.
The fingerprint reader really does work...and fast enough that I use it when I never did take the time to use a password. This is probably a good thing given the 500+ confidential contacts I have on my phone all the time. If you could never bother to use some sort of security with your phone, this one might get you to, without any pain.
The build quality on the LG is superior to the HTC Touch Pro., I don't know about the Touch Pro 2. With my Touch Pro, the "black chrome" was always flaking, and I returned 3 of them for warranty repairs. The chrome on the LG seems to me more likely to stand up, but only time will tell.
The internet experience is far faster with the new network and processor - but I am on the Telus network and your results may vary.
For me, the only thing that makes it at all close is the custom ROM support, which I am sure will be better for the HTC. And that is why I am having a hard time deciding. At first I hated the S class UI. But it is growing on me.
Good luck with your decision...I don't know what mine will be but I am leaning toward the LG...ever so slightly. And I have to decide by Friday.
cheers
im super happy with my expo and in no time custom roms will be out I can't wait.
I LOVE MY TILT 2 ............
The End ......
Thanks to all who have replied with intelligent responses. The big hang up with me is still the lack of the d-pad. I see it is also sorely missed by some Tilt 2 users since there are many threads regarding Zoom Bar and Volume Keys as faux d-pads with dozens of posts. But there are mixed reviews on the eXpos touch sensor as a decent d-pad. So the jury is out on that one. If ATT would ever actually get the device in the stores I will just give it a trial.
The whole UI thing is a moot point to me. I have tried most everything from TF3d to iPhone to Blackberry to Symbian to Android to Widgets to Winterface to SPB Mobile Shell. And they all come with a compromise, be it speed, lack of full customization or poor usability. So I am over the "sexy" argument. I have been using SPB Pocket Plus for years now and it has made every WinMo phone I have owned incredibly useful. I can add as many tabs as I need and fully customize the home screen. And the tiny footprint doesn't take anything away from performance. Sure, it's not as sexy as what many others have on their devices, but its more functional.
BTW, I am puzzled by why people like Jack of Clubs and 69Pwned post things that have no actual value in the threads. Now I see how some people get so many posts to their name. If you can't intelligently discuss the OP then please don't bother and move on to something else. It's just a waste of our time. Anytime someone blindly says "this is better than everything else" when they have never tried "everything else", it just makes us ignore anything you say in the future. I have owned 4 HTC devices in a row and loved them all. But I am not narrow-minded enough to not want and explore other avenues. How can your keyboard be better than the one on a device you have never set hands on?

I just sold my HTC Sensation Android phone and looking for a nice replacement. I currently have T-Mobile USA. Obviously the Nokia 710 is really the only option for T-Mobile USA 3G/4G users at this moment; I would love to have the Lumia 800 specs
Anyone willing to chime in with + or - on the 710 please feel free to. Amazon . com has the 710 for 329.00 incl no tax and free shipping.
If there is a better W7 phone out there please let me know.

I've had the Radar since mid-December. Love it. I've been really surprised at how much I've fallen for an "entry level" smartphone. Hats off to HTC for making an amazing smartphone at this price point.
Haven't spent much time with the Lumia 710, but I imagine you can't go wrong with either.
I'd like for T-Mo to get some higher end WP devices though

I'm with you on wanting T-Mobile to get some higher WP phones...
None of these WP phones from T-Mobile have WiFi calling correct? My reception is HORRIBLE and this makes me wonder if a Windows phone would cut it.
I just got the Lumia today. No wifi calling.
But, it's a pretty cool phone. So far I'm loving it. It seems that WP7 doesn't really need the powerful hardware that Android needs in order to run well. Of course, I'm not a game though, so if you are then maybe that might make a difference.
The Lumia is light. It definitely doesn't feel like a high end phone. But it is comfortable to hold and not bad to look at. It's thicker than most newer phones too, but again in my opinion that makes it feel a bit better in the hand.
I've been using Android exclusively since the HTC Evo 4G launched. The UX on WP7 blows it away in my humble opinion. I'd at least try it out!

Great feedback and advice. I pulled the trigger on a new 710 through Amazon Wireless. I have 30 days to return it with a 100% refund.
I don't doubt that this is a solid phone and a good GUI. I won't lie, but part of me might miss all the Android hacking; won't miss the force closes, etc... Lol

Nokia Lumia 710 is good, but i like Lumia 800 :*
I just bought the 710 yesterday at a T-Mobile retail location for $200. If you let them put the $50 Monthly4g plan on with the phone, the register automatically deducts a $150 discount.
Sorry I didn't see this before you spent more for it on amazon, but regardless you will love the phone, I am enjoying mine.

That's ok but thanks for the info. I already have an old grandfathered data plan that is capped at 10 gigs so I'm not touching that.
I am however looking at another Lumia on an auction site which might cost me $100 less (white one) - since I can always return the Amazon . com one within the 30 days.
How do you like the phone so far?
I love it so far, my only complaint is coming from an android device I do like the notification system better on android and obviously the app market is superior on android as well (you can find pretty much everything for whatever you are trying to do on android)
Everything else is great, its SMOOTH as butter and everything just feels like it can be done faster on the windows phone. I am sure you will like it unless you are an app whore. lol

SMOOTH is the overall impression I'm getting from all the reviews I've read/watched. People say that ALL the WP phones are smooth, no matter the processor speed/specs, this is very interesting and not Android like at all.
Not really an app whore, but I do like to install/uninstall apps in the quest for what I need.
Mostly I want a phone that is, SMOOTH (check!), good looking (check!) and hopefully reliable (let's see what time tells). Microsoft & Nokia seem to be good bed buddies so far; now what comes next is to be seen.
FYI: Expansys - USA has all the OEM Nokia covers for sale. Ordered a white, blue and yellow one, along with a clear/white cover.

Grandfathered data plan here as well.
I just had Tmo activate the micro sim that comes with the NOK on my existing account with no changes.
The $50 prepaid 4G thing came on a separate sim (which you can subsequently sell or whatever.)
The 710 works fine (so far) on the stock APN even, which, as you probably know, doesn't fly with Android devices on old data plans.
Thumbs up from me on the phone and the os.
I'm not fleeing Android or anything but there is something to be said for having a speakerphone I can actually hear without having to flash a different libaudio.so and fix permissions every other boot
I just called AT&T and gave them hell about the lack of progress on the Marshmallow update. Asked how much it would cost to close my account. Miraculously; I was forwarded to a tech support person with an IQ just North of a bedroom slipper. She forced the update to my phone. I'm past the download and my apps are optimizing. Incredible! Before I post, I'm going to wait to be sure, but it looks like I'm getting the Big M! 8 more apps to go! 1 more. Holding breath. BS! Don't know what it actually did, but still on 5.11. Time for the big guns. Stay tuned.
Just north of a bedroom slipper. Thats hilarious.
??????
Big News! AT&T Are Liars!
I called back and spoke to another Golgi apparatus who denied that they ever said that. My, how his toned changed when I started playing back the conversation from Total Recall. He proceeded to tell me that I could pay an ETF of $350.00. I told him that based on the recorded lies that they told me; I DARED them to try to collect. Never mind - just more AT&T BS. {Sigh!}
Sorry. "Just North of a bedroom slipper" and "Golgi apparatus" were complements for these oxygen thieves. Maggots is placing them in high regard. AT&T customer since 1985, and this is how I'm treated? I'm dropping them like a used rubber. Don't have any better "smoking gun" solutions since I travel internationally a good bit; but, I'll cut off my nose to spite AT&T at this point. (Extremely foul language omitted)
Sometimes I think to my self, how fun would of been if this device would of been root able? Big-time developers would be on this specific forum. Idk but lately I've been complementing on wether to give att another chance or split to tmobile
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA-Developers mobile app
Sorry that happened, it's the worst when you get your hopes up only to have them dashed.
Highly unlikely that att would push out an update to a single user, some of us have been trying to get beta releases for years. Unfortunately, we just have to wait.
So help me; she SWORE that they were already rolling it out (another lie), but I wasn't in the queue yet, and I'd be receiving it soon. She was such a polished liar that it takes my breath away. Then, she gave me the schmoozing touch by saying "Well, you're such a valued customer that I'm going to go ahead and push it to your phone." Eloquent liar. She said "Look at the top of your screen and tell me what you see?" I saw the diagonal arrows that only mean one thing. I was ecstatic! I told her: " I can't believe you were able to do it that fast!" She poured it on even thicker by saying "Now, wait with me for a little bit to make sure it goes through." Sucker!!! I waited until it had gotten to the 100% point and was prompted by the phone to end my call to finish the update. I thanked her profusely, and hung up.
I'm sure they were slapping their knees after I got off the phone with them. The phone went through the expected gyrations with the progress bar, optimizing apps, rebooting, etc. When it finished recycling; there was the all too familiar screen again. My heart was beating like a rabbits. I went to the phone info, and sure enough... Still Lollipop! SUCKER! I felt like Curly from The Three Stooges after Moe just double poked him in the eyes.
Now; I'm pissed. But, being the weekend, I realize that the only person to answer their phone is Hajji over in India, so that's a waste of time. So; my choices are: Stay with AT&T and continue to have nearly seamless international roaming, or cut my throat and go with Verizon - just to match my domestic coverage - (Same high price, same obstinance, but little to no international coverage, same hardware restrictions), or go with a lone wolf like T-Mobile - or worse - Sprint.
Deflated.
stay with At&t but never buy phones from them. nexus is the way to go my friend.
OP, I honestly cannot tell if you are for real.
Oh; trust me; I'm real. And, everything - virtually everything happened exactly the way I said it. It would be hard to make that one up.
As for the Nexus; I've considered that. Perhaps my timing's been bad, but I'm a little underwhelmed by the Nexus phones that I've seen. Especially without Mini-SD cards. It seems like there's always some stranglehold. I've been a Sammy fan for about 4 years now. The previous one was the Note 3 that I purchased outright from AT&T. Root eventually made it's way to it, but I jumped when the Note 5 came out without the SD card slot, and no removable battery. I panicked and snatched up the Note 4. Big mistake.
I wish there was a way to purchase an unlocked, unbranded Samsung Note that would work seamlessly on AT&T, allow updates without the bloat, and let me do what I wanted to do with what I bought. It defies logic.

Likely has no warranty I the states, and difficult to get, many are sold as 910f but are 910a with a system mod applied via odin to make it look like an 910f...
OK, I'll bite. You really didn't know that the ATT associates don't know when any update will occur? You really wasted all this time and energy and anger over this? That is why I smell a troll; everyone knows this, and it has been reiterated a thousand times. The fact is they simply do not know.
Think what you want. I'm not trying to impress you or anyone else. I'm venting my frustration and experience.
Now; if she'd told me that the update would hit at a certain time; I'd have taken it with a grain of salt. But, the way she schmoozed me; I bought hook, line, and sinker. Not to mention all of the speculation on this board that the update was immanent; I thought I'd hit the goldmine. That's what pisses me off. I'll be more than happy to post the recording (~10MB) of the 47 minute conversation - if you have the time to waste listening to it.
And, no; I'm not going to roll the dice on an international - or any other illegitimate phone - in the hopes that I can get what I paid for. That's just another frustration. It would be like buying a fancy Dell computer with a 3TB HD, but they installed 1.5TB of bloatware on the drive and if you took it off; your computer would crash.
OK, I'm done.
I have been an AT&T customer since 96. My first smartphone was the Sony x10a, loved it. Then I saw an ad in a magazine for the ion lt28at. I knew 6 months before the 6 AT&T employees(1 per month) that AT&T was getting it. I "chat" with AT&T about every 2 weeks to see if there's any info when updates are supposed to be released. Occasionally one will act like they have the inside scoop, usually, like with the ion, they're as clueless as we are. I fallen victim to false hope, I'm sure many of us have. Yes, AT&T sucks when it comes to updates and bloat, but I will tell you this, every single time I've had an issue they've done everything they can to make me happy. To me that goes a long way towards keeping my brand loyalty. AT&T is a pretty solid company and would have to do something much worse than delaying updates to lose my business.

I agree. I have a contract that was supposed to allow me to upgrade phones every two years. I went in and was told that they don't do upgrades anymore even if it is in your contract. Which means I have to pay that price on my bill and not get the benefit of it. They very eagerly offered to take that off my bill but it would kill my unlimited data. Why in the hell would I buy a phone from them if I can get one that is not locked down for the same price?

It's a dead topic in my opinion. We all know that AT&T's customer service is horrible and will tell you anything. What I found so insulting was the level of deceit that they went to convince me that I was going to get the update. Shouldn't be surprised. That's why I record theirs and a few other companies phone calls to confront them when they don't live up to what was promised. I still find it incredible!
So; I'm stuck with AT&T, or another carrier that's as bad or worse. It's a shame. I used to be able to count on AT&T as fulfilling their promises. My experience over the past couple of years is that you roll the dice, and HOPE you get what was promised. I suppose that's the only option. Their management could care less.
I'm done with this topic. Feel free to rant - which was my purpose - it seems to have no effect on them. They know your options are limited.

It's a dead topic in my opinion. We all know that AT&T's customer service is horrible and will tell you anything. Why wont you go buy a T-mobile phone and unlock the sim for use on at&t. Get your root, custom roms, updates.... i have a t-mobile Samsung s5 also Note 4 and finally Note Edge, all rooted and custom roms. All working on AT&T straight talk network. I can update to custom MM right now if i wished.
