Problems with TomTom7 on Touch Pro 2 - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi, I see some threads that suggest TomTom 7 can be installed on a Touch Pro 2. I bought TomTom 7 on micro SD and it won't run. I get a message "Your device is not compatible with this version of TomTom NAVIGATOR!" Is there something simple that I am missing that is causing this. TomTom support were no help.

Offtopic: Why not ask your question in one of the threads you have found
Ontopic: Officially the TP2 is not supported at this moment. It will work, just ask Google

Hi PGLion.
I started a new thread because none of the other threads were actually about TomTom7 on the TP2, they just gave me hope!
On the ask Google suggestion, I may be a bit slow, but I have not found anything that helps me. If you have a link that you think will help, I'd be very grateful if you could post it.

TT7 on TP2
Hi,
Has anyone got TT7 working on TP2 yet? I've checked on google can't find a copy
Thanks.

yes,
try >"7.910" "(9196)"< as search terms in google.
before installing that version you should also chek the reports of other users stating that after installation bluetooth stopped working.

You want "ttn7.915.9196.vga_black.cab"
Works fine.
In fact a quick google takes us to this very site:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=482075
Bluetooth still working fine for me.

Yes, TomTom7 DOES work on TouchPro2. I use it almost daily. It's very nice.
But it DOES cripple bluetooth (at least the build that I'm using). It replaces a couple of bluetooth drivers in your Windows directory that are incompatable (or so it appears).
If anyone's having issues with this, PM me. I'll find the thread (I think it was at PPCGeeks) that has instructions re: fixing it.

To save looking - you will need to rename or delete the following dll files in the \windows directory:

i too can confirm that TT7 works on TP2, might be best you use a software called cabinstl to install the cab file to your required location

The biggest problem I'm having is some serious GPS lag on my Verizon Touch Pro2 running TomTom (I've tried v6 and v7).

TOMTOM 7 install issues on Tilt 2
Has anyone had problems with the install going automatically to the device and not having enough memory to run?

Mine works, but I have a few issues. The physical keyboard doesn't work correctly (when I type, I get multiple non-english characters entered, but the on-screen keyboard is fine). The keyboard on my previous Tilt (original) worked fine with TT6. It also appears that there's no GPS: it shows reception of 0 satellites, yet it works fine. Seems way to accurate to be getting position from cell phone triangulation. Also, I'm using the "black VGA" map, but there appears to be an issue with POIs. Gas stations were shown on screen in completely undeveloped areas. Fortunately, I wasn't looking for gas.

TT7 (V7.915) working OK on my stock UK Vodafone (WM6.1) TP2 with no major lag or loss of any other features. Gets a lock fairly quickly (10-30 seconds).
Custom POIs are accurate and as expected.
Satellite reporting is behaving itself.
Hardware keyboard: Worked fine first go, then started printing double/foreign characters (eg: A gave A+A(Umlaut)), then back to OK after I went into soft keyboard settings and re-selected English. Exited TT, came back in and hardware keyboard seems OK still.
The only major issue I have is that TT sometimes crashes while loading ("We're sorry..." Windows error screen) and I have to turn the phone off/on to get TT going again.

TomTom5

Chaps/Ladies (do we have any?!),
I've been using TT5 for a couple of weeks now, and have a strange problem! Every now and then, randomly, TT5 will just exit whilst navigating. I drove 170 miles yesterday and it closed itself four times, the phone was off on three of the four occasions, as was wifi and BT.
I've also had it freeze once or twice. The display just stops updating, though I can still tap the screen and exit cleanly. This used to happen more frequently with TT3.
I've only run TT5 on the new 1.40 ROM.
Anyone else suffering?
TIA
Dan
I have the same problem. Also running 1.40, tomtom sometimes just exists

Argh! Another quirk. I think I'm gonna sell my XDA2s on Ebay, and buy a map, a diary, and a Nokia 1110.
I use TT5 daily & have never had a problem with it exiting. The display occasionally freezes, butI think I can put this down to when the traffic info is being updated because it only happens occasionally & it unfreezes after about 30 seconds or so

Are you on the same ROM as us, 1.40? I don't use TomTom Traffic, so that can't be related to my problem.

My experience is that TomTom 5 will not start calculating a route without a valid GPS device attached - I'm just going to verify that though

Well that shows how much I know about TomTom 5 . It is definitely possible to generate driving instructions without a GPS device attached 8) .
Go into the "Advanced Planning" option and simply pick your start and end points. You will then have a route that you can display as text, images etc, or even "demo" the route i.e. simulate it at speeds from 10% to 500% of "real time"

I had same problem. Try to switch off showing a POI. I switch it off and TT5 works fine.

Ah right Which POI? Or just all POI's?

I switch off all POI.
Thank you.
Thanks Weasel. I'll go ahead and load TomTom5 before my GPS arrives.
I have an XDA IIs with TT3, after i first installed it noticed it would crash randomly, which became really really annoying. After messing around with settings and 3rd-party software, i got nowhere. So I removed the **** O2 software that comes with the IIs, low and behold no more crashing.
Is this also the case for TT5, I would like to know before upgrading?
Don't really want to have to turn off the POI's to make it work.
This is all pretty interesting. I'm running a 1.40 O2 ROM and TomTom is not-as-stable-as-it-could-be. I'm going to do some more qualitative analysis to try and work out which of the crappy O2 software is the culprit - or if it's TomTom itself.
We've got quite a few XDAIIs here and both of the ones with TomTom are flakey. More details to follow...
[edit] Should have said - this is TomTom Navigator 5, with both bluetooth and wired GPS receivers.
AFAIK, the O2 Active software produces a memory leak. There are suggestions that TTN5 also produces a memory leak on 640x480 VGA devices. Perhaps the two are interacting? (Yes I know the XDA2s isn't VGA). Try monitoring available RAM while TTN5 is running. If it constantly reduces it will reach a point where the s/w crashes.
Where are we?
@ all:
Anyone know a solution to this problem? Apparently we need to use the POI.dat file from earlier installations, i.e. 4 or 3 and it will only crash 1% of the time. Until there is a patch for this we will have to settle for this solution it seems.
BTW, does anyone happen to have the POI.dat file for the Benelux map, version 3 or 4? I seem to have "misplaced" my cd with the map on it, anyone can help a brutha out? PM me?
Cheers in advance!
I've switched off POI ( that's NP for dutch users ) so it's stable now.
Any word on the arrival of a patch for this problem?

No Maps Available in TomTom on WM6

Hi all,
I have an XDA Orbit on O2 which I got last week.
I have TomTom installed on the phone with the maps and voices etc on the MiniSD Card.
I went to use TomTom today, and it showed be the EULA and said No Maps available. I checked the SD Card, and I could access it and launch other applications which are installed on the SD Card.
I soft-reset the device, but still no fix.
Re-installed TomTom, and when it launched after installation it ran fine, however when I shut it down and opened it again i failed and showed No Maps once again.
I read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285511&page=1&highlight=Storage+Card thread, and installed the HTC Patch incase this was affecting me, however there is no change.
It seems that I can run TomTom if I re-install everytime I want to use it, however that obviously is no use at all.
Any help would be grately appreachiated, as I'm a little annoyed by this being that I have only had the phone for a week.
have you tried putting the maps on the device storage rather than your SD Card? some applications dont like being split over device and SD.
I have TTN6, and have the maps on the device under 'Program Files/Navigator/Zip/'
Hope this helps.
I had TomTom installed in this way on my XDA Mini S for 18 months with no problems, and as far as I am aware this is the way TomTom is designed to be installed.
Is the name of the TT-map map correct on minisd?
Check spelling.

..same issue
I had the same challenge.
There are one or 2 ways to resolve the issue.
1. Delete the maps, un-install TomTom software, you also need a reedit software to delete all references to TomTom in the regostry. Delete all other TomTom relevant files on the device /Program Files/navigator; /My Document/TomTom. Then soft-reset before installing all over again.
This I did for a friend.
2. In my own case, I reflashed with a new ROM, then installed all over again.
However, my friend had a cracked version, and I told him to go pay for the original, as you only need to pay for the maps these days. I cannot guarrantee 1. will always work.
I am currently using a cracked version also (tut-tut) but am getting the Western Europe edition for christmas from my other half.
The maps folder is named Great_Britain which worked on my Mini S on WM5 no problems.
Can you please advise where the TTN registry keys are, as I looked in HKCU and HKLM but couldn't find anything relating to TomTom. I did not remove all the existing stuff before re-installing so I may try this.
Just to clarify the technical points:
I am running the O2 WM6 ROM that was pre-installed on the device, and am using a SanDisk 2GB MiniSD card.
I don't see your TT version
What is your tt ver?

I'm using the same version now as previously on WM5 - Is that my issue?
I don't have the Mini S with me now, so I can't fire the software up right now, however I will look tonight and post the version, unless someone can tell me a way to find it some other way in the mean time?
Thanks
i dont think u can find the version number, apart from when u are running the program... just had a quick look on mine, and there aren't any files that look useful.
I'm having problems locating the software build version.
I've started TomTom on my Mini S which is working perfectly and loading the maps ok etc etc, however I can't see anything with the build or software number on it - Sorry for being a noob, but could someone point me in the right direction.
Many Thanks
Just open TomTom and press where the signal strength is shown, it will show at the bottom right, at least in version 6.030.
I hope you know that map's from TT5 are not compatible in TT6

Hiya mate i used to have this problem too
1. Make sure u dont have bluetooth explorer switched on
2. soft reset your device see if that works
Hi all,
I knew I wasn't being stupid trying to find the version number, so I've taken a picture of the GPS Signal screen - Attached.
I disbled Bluetooth Explorer and this is now working again perfectly, without changing the maps - These maps I have used on WM5 and WM6.
I personally don't see why Bluetooth Explorer would do this, unless TomTom is foolithly trying to look for maps over Bluetooth, but thanks for the help everyone.
to find the version number with TTN6:
-Start TomTom
-Tap on the bottom right of the screen where it shows time/speed/signal strength
-it should bring up a screen which shows your last route, signal on the right and bottom right of the screen the version, which you can tap on and get a detailed view.
Hope this helps.
I also have the same problem, where it says no maps found. It used to work and then all of a sudden it stopped. It is not a cracked version.
Can someone please help me!
Thank You
did you try the soultion in reply 16? it worked for me

TomTom v7 odd problem on TP2/Rhodium

Hi all.
I have got myself an early Touch Pro 2 and installed TomTom 7 - all works fine - same as on the Touch HD. However I get a strange problem with the GPS signal display - all the bars are blank - even when the signal locks.
I am using 7.450.9028 - i can't get 7.451 to work as it complains its not for this device.
I also have iGo v8 working fine on the TP2 and the GPS satellites display fine on that - iGo detects COM4 just fine. I had the probem before I installed iGo 8 by the way.
Any help appreciated - I can't see other people with that problem on the Touch HD so its a mystery.
thanks
mike
Honestly since the phone hasn't been released yet I doubt that anyone will be able to help you, but also maybe the official touch pro 2 will not have this problem when it comes out. Last, how did you get one?? Do you work for HTC or is there away for anyone to get one?
Sure - understand. I guess i'll just have to wait :-(
I have a friend who has a friend. It can't be long now i assume..
On the test one i had 2 weeks ago i installed TT7.915 and it worked well.
ok thanks. i will try and locate and install that version.
to be clear 7.45 works just fine - its just you get no idea how close to a lock you are - which can be a pain.
that said it's introduced me to Nav n Go 8 - which i hadn't lookd at before - pretty impressive UI inc the motorway signs i see TomTom UI is moving to.
Got too used to the TomTom voices though - so will need to install those which I see is possible.
thanks for the tip
Hi, I have bought a TP2 and I am having difficulties installing TomTom7 from microsSD. Get the device is not compatible with this version of TomTom Navigator error message. TomTom support are no help. Is there any simple fix for this?
I have tomtom v7 working fine, but it is a 7.9x version, which had a few fixes in (apparently) for internal GPS devices.
also worth applying the GPS delay fixes that are in the Wiki as it reduces lag.

Orange touch HD + tomtom= no GPS device?

Hi,
I signed up a touch HD with orange UK yesterday. The first thing I did was to install TOMTOM on the machine. However, TOMTOM kept reporting no GPS device. If it finds the internal GPS receiver, then it is 20 minutes later. One thing I notice is that when TOMTOM is looking for the GPS receiver, there is something trying to connect to the internet.
I am sure I did everthing right as I was using this copy of tomtom on the touch diamond and it worked like a treat.
Did orange do anything to the GPS so people can only use their stupid orange map? If they did, is there any way that I can get the tomtom working?
Many thanks in advance.
Thank you for all your advice and the problem has been solved. Here are a few tips for people who have the same problem.
1. A-GPS can only make things worse, switch it off.
2. Update your quick-GPS data.
3. It seems that tomtom struggles to find GPS device on certain orange handset. If you are the unlucky one, try change your hand set with orange. If you don’t want to go through the trouble, open google map to locate satellite before open tomtom.
4. Debrand the handset.
5. Orange’s customer service is crap, stay away if you can
Have you tried updating QuickGPS in the programmes.
Also check A-GPS is disabled in windows settings.

Thanks, I have updated the quickGPS the first thing. I have the a-gps enabled, though it could help to locate the satallite.
I think it is recomended to be disabled.
Perhaps try it if you have not.
GPS always worked fine for me with the stock Orange ROM, that was with 1.14 though, I think they come with 1.19 now, it also works fine with all of the cooked ROMs I've tested. Perhaps the version of TomTom you have isn't fully compatible with the HD (I did notice you said it worked on the Diamond, but perhaps there's a hardware/software difference on the HD which stops it working.

Thanks all for your help. Disable A-GPS seems hlep a lot. I will try again today.

Don’t blame them, that is way we are here.
My tomtom version is 7.915.9196, with latest UK and Ireland map v830.2307
but unfortunately it doesn’t support 7 point postcode system just accept 4 digit post code and in order to find the address you actually need to know name of the street as well. But I have iGO with 7PPC which it is fantastic.

thanks for telling me.
ok now for everyone which already had tomtom without 7 digit postcode, do as I listed here:
01- Downloaded the file
www.tomtom.com/updates/great_britainpostal_all.zip
02- copy it into new folder (folder's name doesn't matter)
03- extract it.
04- click on setup.exe
05- choose "i agree" then click next.
06- choose Pocket PC (Windows CE)
07- choose install Tom Tom Great Britin Postcode then click next.
08- choose other location (Advanced)
09- choose Folder on the computer
10- select any folder you want
the software will generate a zip folder
after getting the zip folder move it to your SD card's Root
start TOM TOM you will be able to do a full 7 digit postcode search.

Problem with Bluetooth after installing tomtom7

Hello,
I just installed Tomtom7 on my pro2. but now the bluetooth stack is broken.
On other websites they say that tomtom replaces BtCoreIf.dll and BtSdkCE30.dll I already removed them and soft reset, but that doesn't work.
Can someone with a Pro2 upload those 2 files so that i can replace them on my phone? That will be the fastest solution i think... Thanks!
When this happened to me I had to hard reset, then re-install TomTom without the BT files. I'm still not entirely clear what the problem was, though, or how to correct it without hard resetting, but those files seemed to have corrupted something.
had The same problem had to hard reset. teach me to get a pirate version
I'm having the same issue. So removing the files from the cab fixes it?

I'm seeing the same "BTTrayCE is not a valid application" error after installing TTN 7.450.
Does anybody know of a workaround that will enable both BlueTooth and TomTom to work?
Is a hard reset the only way to get BT working again? What about uninstalling TomTom?
R.
It seems to be. It corrupts the files.

Is a hard reset the only way to get BT working again? What about uninstalling TomTom?

Uninstalling tomtom does not help for me.
The files are replaced on the device so a hard reset is the easiest way back.
TT 7.910.9185 is running fine on mine, I did have the same issue with another version of TT7 though, but simply hard reset to recover and started again.
I think (although have not verified) that the BT Stack on the Rhodium has been updated to a Broadcom stack.
Can confirm that the above version works fine, great resolution and no issues using BT after install and with the new BT Stack you can now route all audio from the Rhodium through your hands free / car kit

I did have a problem with v7.915.9196 where the device bootup was delayed by about a minute and a half (from 1m20 to about 3m from cold to starting Mobile Shell) which I had to get around by not installing the TomTom BT files.
I used TT7_915.9196_VGA__Negro.cab which does not appear to have the bluetooth files in it.
and this version could also be purchased on tomtom with ur chosen map on an sd-card? just to avoid having to hard reset and stuff after trying to install
thx.
I removed the bluetooth files from the cab with WinCE CAB Manager and installed tomtom agian, now everything works fine.
I'm now using tomtom version 7.450.9028 , i think it will work with other versions to
Thanks!
