I want the Touch Pro 2 and have some questions - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

I think that T-mobile is coming out with the Touch Pro 2 on July 22nd. If it does I want it so bad. My ONLY problem with the phone is the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack.
I have a question for those of you that own a TP2- how do you like it? What don't you like about it?
My contract is up with T-mobile right now and I have the opportunity to go and get a G1 or wait for the MyTouch3g (aka Magic) or wait for the Touch Pro 2. what do you guys think that I should do?
Lastly, what kind of video recording capabilities does the TP2 have? & do you like the quality of the pictures it takes?

I never tried the touch pro 2 but my brother has a G1, and I dont know if you have used one but the keyboard on the G1 is... well I think not designed AS good as other HTC keyboards and I think it is much harder to type on, my brother thinks its fine but admits the one one the kaiser hermes and wizard ext. are better. Also the touch pro 2 has a bigger screen, and more RAM, so I would say the touch pro 2 is better, and I would say the G2 (magic) is basically a G1 without the keyboard, but also I am sure people will port android to the touch pro 2 and then you can have both wm and android although it probably wont be as good as if it came with it, but I prefer wm because it at least at this point is more customizable.

The headphone jack's of no matter to me, because I'm happy with using blutooth headphones, although there are workarounds for the 3.5mm jack (use an adaptor).
I'm more than happy with the video recording. It's actually a huge improvement from my Kaiser. The still camera's also great, and the shots look super crisp on the quality screen, although the camera does fail in poor lighting, due to lack of flash
Seriously, why wait for T-Mobile when they're rumoured to be ditching the Vario V anyway? What's the point in getting an ugly T-Mobile branded model, when you can get a nice original, SIM unlocked, HTC branded TP2 with a T-Mobile contract from elsewhere? I don't understand why so many people are hanging on T-Mobile for the Vario V.

I'm also using a BT headset, the Motorola S9.
Works fine.
And I never want a branded phone, anymore.
T-Mobile is very sluggish whith upgrades, if any are produced.
And most of the time they rip out nice stuff.
I say: Don't do it, buy the real deal!

The problem is though that then I don't get 3G if I buy the unlocked version.

Until i got a Treo Pro which has a built-in 3.5mm jack, i used to kid myself that it didn't matter, afterall USB dongles or BT headphones would suffice. That is until i never remember to pick up the USB dongle on the way out or forget to charge my BT headphones (also BT drains battery a it more anyway).
I find it so much better just to plug in headphones than dealing with dongles or BT headphones (which never sound as good, no matter how expensive).
To me the TP2 would be perfect, p-e-r-f-e-c-t, if it had a reg headphone jack and kept the f-l-a-s-h , but it's not a big deal in the end, though it's made me rethink getting one right now.
Now Android on the TP2 would be killer.

Most likely the unlocked version ("real deal") won't have 3G on the 1700 band. I'd say for the same price as an unlocked version, buy the T-mo version at full price (or renew with contract) and unlock in the future if need be. At least that way you get to use their 3G.
No one has to wait for T-mo updates, that's what XDA is for !!!

Thats what I was also thinking is the most attractive things about the TP2: is all of you guys. I'm glad that if I got the TP2 I wouldn't miss out on the customizations that Android offers.
I was thinking that the only other thing that would draw me to an android device though is when Google Voice comes out and Windows Mobile won't have the killer application that Android and Iphone users will have.

I upgraded from the original Touch Pro, and i have to say that i love my TP2. With my original TP, the video play back sucked, the gps never worked well, despite all of the tips in the forums, and the screen was tiny.
The TP2 has none of these issues (gps still needs tweaking, thank you XDA, but it actually works very well now), and more. The keyboard is great, the screen is gorgeous, the device isnt too big, and its much more responsive than my original TP.
The fact that it doesnt have a 3.5mm headphone jack isnt a big deal. Adapters are cheap and available and i just leave mine connected to my headphones. So its no problem.
The only thing now is that I see the Omnia Pro is going to be available soon... and i'm thinking that one might be better.... But regardless, i love my TP2 =D.

hahaha that's what's so frustrating with technology. when we buy the '"next best thing", something even better than that comes out hahaha.
I'm gonna pick up my TP2 when it comes out on AT&T, and then save up and pick up the Hero.

Don't let the 3.5mm headphone jack bother you! TP2 is a great phone!
By the way: I know there are some mini USB to mini jack kabels, so maybe that will help?

What will be the phone that makes you give up your Dash?

HTC just release photos of their 09 phone lineup, dates haven't been said or who's carrying which phone. I just hope for tmobile to pick up the dash2, it would be dumb of them not to ,considering there the ones that carry the dash.
check this for the link to the report. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3290798&postcount=12
Probably the Touch Pro 2. I think it's time I moved on from smartphones.
either the dash 2 or the curve 8900
gave it up for a touch pro....gave that up for a g1...
honestly, i would have given it up for a 1st gen nokia from 1990. the battery issue and what not just got old..i was sick of having a phone that would randomly work, or eat batteries etc...
lol i remember playing snake for hours on that beast!
I think I´ll never give up to my Exaclibur, it will be here!
But I would love to buy the upcoming HTC Rhodium or the Topuch pro II !!
if the dash2 comes to t-mo, with 3g. otherwise, the g2 if it's nice looking/easy exchange support
Given up for Tilt, still use the Dash as second phone but doesn't do much anymore..........
It would have to be the Dash 2, otherwise I don't really see any phones that catch my interest right now. I've been pretty happy with my dash.
Maple
Yeah - I still prefer the keypad over the full touchscreen, and the sliders are too bulky, so if the Maple is on TMo 3G and has a MUCH better camera than the Dash then I will get it. I mean really - is it too much to ask to have at least 3 megapixels with decent pic quality on your phone? Sony knows how to do it!
I also hate that there are no HSPDA 3G phones that work for both AT&T and TMo 3G data. What's the point of having unlocked phones if you can't do 3G on both networks?
For me the phone has to have great voice quality (Dash does) and let me type lots of large emails and notes quickly (Dash does). I really want it to sync with my mail server and browse Internet sites quickly (Dash doesn't) and take decent pics (Dash seriously doesn't). Being able to switch from AT&T 3G to TMo 3G would be really perfect.
I second this also i hope it has a scroll wheel or something like that.. and proper volume control otherwise im happy wit my excaliber
I got to say I'm pretty happy with my dash for now. So I figure by the time the dash 2 comes out, price drops a little ( under 400 bucks ) The masters of XDA come out with some sick tweaks and roms, then I'll get mine.
HTC Magic!

Touch Pro 2 or Android?

I love my Dash, and I'm not going to shun it away once I get a new phone. But I am with T-mobile right now and I'm due for a handset upgrade.
Do you guys think that I should get an Android phone (G1 or MyTouch3G) or the Touch Pro 2? I'm leaning towards the Touch Pro 2 which is rumored to come out on the 22nd of July for T-mobile USA.
I'm not a fan of Android. I woul definately go for the tp2.
Go for TP2!!

Yea thats what I did but there aren't that many people on that section yet. I'm sure that it will grow though. The only problem I have with the TP2 is the 3.5mm headphone jack... Why htc, WHY?????
Ehh, I'd rather not have ANOTHER hole in my phone.
I have an adapter anyways so no biggie for me.
I expect to get in the day it's released for TMO, because I am also ready for an upgrade, unless of course, you know, PSP phone xD

Yes agree with 3.5mm very bad HTC
Anyway we are on Excalibur section
Android could be a good option in a few years, now is not mature yet...
As a Dash user (and previous G1 owner), I have some pretty strong feelings about the Android OS -- primarily that, in my opinion, it fails in several ways. For media, "schwanky-factor", and other non-essential purposes, it's likely better than a WM6.1 (or 6.5) enabled Dash. For things like making phone calls, Exchange support, and quick-usage, I would argue that the Dash is better -- even after all these years.
Here are some of my thoughts (from my blog):
http://yipcanjo.wordpress.com/tag/g1/
Having migrated back to my Dash a few months ago, I got to use my brother's (Cupcake-enabled) G1 about two weeks ago. I was instantly reminded of what I disliked about that phone. Android has a ways to go.
Personally... I'm VERY MUCH looking forward to the Touch2. Bring it on, T-Mobile! We're tired of waiting on you guys!!!!!
for me, it was about the price. Im not sure what the price point will be for the TP2, (guessing around the $249 to $299 range) but i just picked up a G1 from tmobile.com for an upgrade for $49.99.... w-no rebates. all instant savings yesterday! i told someone that for me ( cuz i've used the g1 first hand) the two phones are like two hot chicks that both want me.... either one i pick... i win!
I can't wait for July 22nd. I think that the Touch Pro2 is my best bet. However I wish that T-mobile will not change its styling. I really liked the chrome on the outside. Ugh, I hate it when carriers ruin stuff just to be 'unique'. I dunno, I won't know for sure until I go to T-mobile and try it out though.
And yipcanjo thanks for you blog post. I found it very informative.
Maybe HTC will blow us off our feet with their announcement tomorrow though, right?

Can't Decide: HTC HD vs HTC Diamond 2 vs HTC Pro 2 vs HTC Hero?? stunno?

I cannot for the life of me decide which HTC phone to buy, previously I've had the following:
O2 XDA - Decent at the time
Blackjack II (Samsung) - decent phone
HTC TyTN II - Awesome business platform but too bulky
Nokia E71 - Best of the lot but hated Symbian OS (missed Win Mobile)
I want to buy one of the new HTC phones but I cannot for the life of me decide which one, it needs to last me a good 18 months and something I'll settle with and enjoy everyday I use it, stuff I'll be doing with it:
1. Emails - Googlemail, Microsoft Exchange, Hotmail
2. SMS - Will really need an unlimited SMS contract
3. MMS
4. Decent Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn integration
5. Opera browser
6. Windows Mobile 6.5 (looks great)
7. Live messenger
8. Movies
9. MP3/Music
10. PDF's/Docs/Powerpoint (view only, not much editing)
11. Remote Desktop/Putty in worst case scenario
12. Shared internet
Ok what do you guys think?
Stunno I know you asked in another thread about the TP2, what do you think about it honestly now the novelty has worn off (if it has!)?
I cant imagine the Diamond 2 being up to the task of loads of typing, but I really like the look of it, but the more I look at what I need the TP2 ticks every single one of those boxes.
At the same time I'm loving the look of the HTC Hero (android) and would wait for that if it could also tick the above!
Damn this is hard to choose.
Also what the best place to get this phone in the UK? I was thinking MPD, is it worth phoning Vodafone after I have bought one to try to improve the contract? (I think some of you guys have done it)
But ultimately which damn phone should I buy! lol cheers
Gonna get one ordered tonight hopefully if I can decide.
Doubt you'll get any bad feedback in here about the Rhodium.
As far as I can tell everyone is extremely happy with theirs so far (par the odd faulty unit owners )
By far the best HTC Device I've ever owned (Par my Uni but it's a very close call)
Read through Shingers thread (if you haven't allready), it really is a stunningly impressive work of art, the hardware and OS integration is a first for HTC, the stock Rom is amazing, the screen is bright, vibrant and crystal clear, the keyboard has nicely spaced well sized keys (although not as good as Unis) and the tilt function feels much more solid than the Kaiser.
Forget the Topaz, the Rhodium blows it away
Cheers,
Beasty
I cannot make your decisions for you but my thoughts so far are:
Looking back over my Winmo phones, the one that I remember most fondly is the Wizard (Tmobile Vario). I loved that phone! Don't know why, it was big heavy and slow, but it didn't seem to matter at the time (I was gutted when I dropped it on a concrete floor and shattered the screen)
The TP2 is better in every way than the Wizard, and is the best Winmo phone that I have used, although it isn't perfect yet. I have a Vodafone branded phone and have had a few niggles due to the branding, or rather due to the removal of the branding. Oh and I have other niggle, my email always shows a new email even when there isn't one!
My only criticism would be that it is BIG! Which may be just because I have upgraded from a Diamond, which was tiny. If they could get the screen, keyboard and battery life in the Diamond's form factor I would sell one of my kids for it! (Actually I wouldn't. It would take two of them to get the phone )
I have only tried a few of the applications/uses that you have listed
1. Email, Exchange, Gmail work perfectly
8. Divx TV episodes work fine with Coreplayer
9. Only used the TF3D player and have had no problems at all (I don't mind the stock headphones, I must have funny shaped ears)
I've had a play on the G1 and am not a fan of the OS, yet, it seems thrown together somehow. But then again I'm not a great fan of Linux either for similar reasons
I think my Voda contract worked out cheaper than MPD (although I have the dreaded branding)
My advice?
Go to a Vodafone shop and try one! If you can live with the size then this seems to be the best phone out there at the moment
Really interesting question....
I would add, if you are LUCKY enough to find a shop that has a TP2. I went looking today, and
a) VF Business Centre: No demos, only to order.
b)Orange: No Stock yet although not discrimination tween business and personal customer.
c) T-Mobile - Nothing yet; End of July.
I am also looking for a professional device with very similar reqs to yours. I was looking at the Tytyn11, but took too long over it and so the TP2 seems a logical choice. However it is VERY NEW and it still has s/w compatibility issues like LogMeIn support etc. I have heard some of the issues are related to the high res screen. However, having talked to a number of people the TP2 does seem to be a de facto business device so I am thinking that if I am going to commit to a 24 month contract then I am better off doing it with something like the TP2 which I can grow into as the problems get solved rather than get something that will be obsolete asap.
I have also looked at MPD and fine and dandy if you want a unbranded phone, but the deal is not as good as VF's IMO especially when quidco included. Also I question whether I would get a replacement mobile as quickly from HTC as VF. Perhaps I would ......
And finally the keyboard.... If you need this then that rules out a lot of options. I do.
Just thoughts, and best of luck matey...
Back to my glass of wine in the courtyard enjoying the warm sun go down !!!
Sam
Thanks all
Stunno, appreciate you replying to my questions.
I'm still undecided, I would love to buy the TP2 and get it tomorrow but I'm still not sure, the keyboard is a big deal - I think I'd definately use it heavily, I did with my old TyTN 2.
Yesterday I went to two different Voda shops (business) and none had it in stock, one girl didnt even know what it was (lol).
Right now I'm down to these:
1. iPhone 3GS - bit of a gimmick though and too expensive, but I got to try it and although the functionality looks quite thin (I had an Ipod Touch so the interface novelty wore off) its a nice phone, dont think it will suit my needs.
2. HTC Hero - I like android and what its trying to achieve, I also love Linux (my job) but I do NOT like the way the device is shaped - nightmare in the pocket.
3. HTC Diamond 2 - The more I look at the reviews the more this phone is top of my list, BUT the only issue is the touch keypad, I just think it wont be good enough, I dont know.
4. Samsung Omnia HD - Amazing phone, but not a big fan of Symbian, was almost tempted to buy this until I read about the codec issues with the sound recording and Samsung stance on fixing it.
5. Samsung Omnia Pro - ????
Decisions decisions, so many damn phones!
Final question, did anybody here order from MPD on a Friday (contract) and get the phone saturday???

Yeah I noticed that too mate, the Omnia Pro?
Coming July, but still, there are many many bugs with the HD version (it maybe Symbian based but...) which puts me off.
I think I am going for the TP2, though my brain is telling me to wait a month or two.
without being device specific what I see is the need for you to do a lot of typing so i would recommend something with a great keyboard. Rhodium certainly has that

To order, yes, but if you call up their upgrade line and be doubtful at them, they'll tell you that if you're not happy with it you can send it back within 7 days with no quibbles... That might only be relevant to current customers mind, and distance selling regs don't apply if you go to a store. I called them up just over a week ago since I was out of contract and had one delivered the next day. A friend got the HTC Magic on the same deal the same day, and another friend has an iPhone so we were able to compare the three phones over a number of days of real use. I kept the TP2... It works well enough, there are a couple of very minor niggles, but most of those are to do with Windows Mobile (and being new to it so expecting things to work in a slightly different way) rather than the phone itself.
Steve.

You don't mention the N97 for some reason. When I was deciding on my upgrade I ended up with a straight choice between the TP2 and the N97 as I had decided that a keyboard was a must.
The TP2 won out because of several points WM being the most obvious (I've had loads of WM phones and am used to it) and Tomtom being the clincher ( I have a shockingly bad sense of direction which, incidentally, has been made much worse by Tomtom but at least I don't get lost now)
If it is down to TP2 v TD2 then it is simply a choice between keyboard v size
There are loads of shops with the TD2 in stock. Give it a go
EDIT: Vodafone gave me 7 days to return the phone if I didn't like it. IIRC Order by 2pm for delivery next day
I just received my TP2 yesterday. I brought it from MPD on payg voda which was £453 - it comes unlocked and unbranded so I chucked my o2 sim right in.
I as well as many others had a tough choise to make - I research everything to death before I buy them, and I have to say on most occasions when I do commit and buy, its a disappointment.
However now using the TP2 it has exceeded all my expectations from all reviews I read and video's I watched (probably 100+).
The stock rom is fantastic, very fluid, very productive and hides nearly all the standard windows mobile interface (only having to see it when using explorer).
I don't expect I can change your mind by this post, but what I will say is that once you actually have it in your hand you will understand why everyone here rants on about it. I compared it to my friends HD last night and the rom beats the HD rom in terms of speed and features, and the quality of the product itself is astounding.
Couple this with the future release of WM6.5, flash 10 for WM in Oct (beta), and HTC Sense release - you have a phone that should last you 18 months - after all, I don't think we will see WM7 on phones till the end of next year, so then is when you can upgrade again.
I haven't tried the TD2 or Samsung HD i900 (or whatever they called it now), but picking between this and the TD2 comes down whether you need a keyboard, or if you like things as small and compact as possible.
Let us know how you get on - keep trying to find a place to try it out
Sounds good - I am very tempted to just pay out for the SIM free as you did since most of the contracts on there incurr extra charge for daily surfing, my existing T-Mobile contract is up for renewal and does NOT incurr extra surfing charges, its also only £22!
I am tempted to renew it and see if I can get a better deal on unlimited texts and buy the phone SIM free from MPD or Expansys.
Definately the Rhodium... or wait for the Omnia Pro

£450 or so for an unlocked handset equates to a lot of surfing!
My phone was free on 30/month (ex VAT), including 500Mb data which should be enough for my needs
Only downside is a 24 month contract

i think htc hd is the best choice for know it has thin body 3.5 mm audio jack good battery bigger screen than all

TP2 or HD2? Trying to upgrade. =)

Hey all, I use my G1 and love it, Was happy with my MDA but now comes the debate.. TP2 or HD2, TP2 is still more expensive and I like the keyboard idea more.. but seems HD2 is stronger.
I know TP2 can install android os which sounds cool. But bottom line, should I forget about the HD2 and go after a TP2 or would you all say HD2 is defiantly better?
Im looking to use this more as a pocket pc vs a phone. =)
Hello,
As anyone day for ages: Rhodium has the best keyboard a smartphone has ever had. If you type a lot - go for Rhodium. Otherwise, Leo is in any way better imho.
Greetings,
Happy Rhodium user )
Yeah, if you are looking for pocket pc functionality I would go with the TP2. I can run Ubuntu on it, which you can't do with the HD2 (yet) I really really really can't say enough good things about the keyboard. But the HD2 is more horsepower for less cash. So if you need a keyboard for a more pc like experience, TP2. Otherwise, the HD2 seems like a natural choice.
Yea Im looking at HD2 specs.. quite impressive, flash camera, 5mp camera, 1 ghz processor (vs 528), wifi router mode (This one is big for me.. I use that on my g1 all the time, but if this built in one lets PSP, PS3 etc connect, then thats instant win!)
I heard from some the vk is not that bad. Big enough screen.
TP2 running ubuntu, I LIKE that idea ALOT. I always believe terminal commanding on a vk sucks.. but Id be willing to go for it. Processor speed and ram is always good to have.
TP2 is an awesome device, but I got used to typing on the display, and since the Leo's one is definitely bigger, I would choose the powerful HD2 now - with no doubts. I thought I cannot live without HW QWERTY keyboard, but it's all just about first few days (I hated the software keyboard for week or two). I recommend you HD2, although I'm TP2 user witch no major complaints .
BTW, TP2 can do WiFi routing with no problem . But the Ubuntu really sucks for now. Pain in the ass to move the cursor around.
HD2 will have the ability to run Android too you think? Or can it dual boot?
Yes, for sure the HD2 will get Android thru hatret. I would get even a step ahead writing that HD2 will run the Android much faster then TP2
When you do android on TP2 or HD2 would it have root access too?
I've used my TP2 as a wireless router for my laptop. Only tried with my laptop and my sisters imac, both worked.
Best place to check would be the android tp2 developer forums
WHOO HOO! Already sold out on CS. I got mine for 200$ I am now the owner of a HD2 =D ty all.
It'll be nice to see a comparison between tp2 and hd2. I know reviews are all over the place, and I have played hd2 in the store (of course they're out of stock, it's just the display model I'm fiddling with), but always nice to see from a person with real hands-on experience.
I wouldn't mind the upgrade, except I can't justify it. As a current tp2 user I really don't care the keyboard that much (touchpal takes care of all the type I need, plus copy paste, etc), but one flaw I found with hd2 is the phone is locked in portrait in word when I rotate it. I was trying to access the larger landscape keyboard in word, and it seemed not available. In contrast, iphone does this a lot better. I wish I can achieve that w/o additional software (I know it's do-able with other software but why do I have to?)
HD2 has all the awesome hardware specs, and I would very much like to get one if I don't already own my tp2 (can't really do the upgrade though). However what deters me also include the dying wm6.5 OS. Granted I think I hate wm7 even more (c'mon, MS, don't make wm another iphone OS), and I prefer the HD2 hardware running android. Maybe this is what I really want:

On amazon.com the HD2 is more expensive than the TP2.
But would be interesting to know, where you got your HD2 for $200 !!!
Good thing you chose the HD2. It beats the Rhodium in every way but the keyboard. But it comes with a great VK called Swype. I'm using that now on my Nexus One and its the fastest VK I have ever used! Nearly as fast as using my Rhodium's keyboard.
The Rhodium is extremely sluggish and the HD2 is not sluggish in any way. I tried one out a couple days ago and was blown away.
uhm,... anyone can answer my question? Where is the HD2 sold for cheaper than the TP2 ?
I got mine with a 2 year upgrade for my tmobile contract. =) 200$

Amazon and Wirefly both have it for $99 right now with a new line, and both they and T-mobile direct are offering it for $199 with a line upgrade.
Thanks Mysticales and sirphunkee!
Oh ok,... I thought you were talking about retailer prices (without a new line or upgrade). Cuz I was looking at amazon for just the devices and the HD2 is clearly more expensive than the TP2.
$99/$199 with a new line/upgrade is still a really good price,... they dont sell that cheap in Germany. Even with the most expensive service provider contract (about $150 / month fixed costs) you still have to add $300 for the device. Ridiculously expensive.

It helps to balance out how much WE have to pay for an Audi or BMW over here
Do US T-mo devices work on the european T-mo network?
I bought the HD2 for my mother-in-law; I kid you not; my M-I-L but she's the cool type; anyway, I got the device 6 days after I ordered it March 24 and like all HardSPL2'd and flashed it with NRGZ28's Leo version of the ROM I have on my Touch Pro2.
Personally, I'm on the fence. I am absolutely in love with the Touch Pro2's form factor and keyboard. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know there's twice the horsepower under the hood of the HD2. We have 3G in town but where we live we have EDGE and if there was any one thing that stood out between my Rhodium and her Leo and that was how smooth Opera, Skyfire and MIE pulled up web pages and pretty darn fast despite EDGE.
Where the HD2 also excels is on a windshield mount and there above all using yuor finger pads really shines. I use CoPilot Live 8 and no problems at all using it there or any of the homescreen functions.
I use my TP2 for CoPilot Live 8, internet, email, text, taking pictures; games while I play a little I really have no interest. The TP2 was introduced by T-Mobile as the device for business professionals and the HD2 for entertainment and I really think that's how this is going to shape itself out and of course the keyboard.
Look, I put the 16 gig sd card in my TP2 and it ran the movies flawless. The games loaded and they ran flawless.
The HD2's form factor is my biggest issue; it reminds me of watching the Star Trek series; particularly TNG and remember those pads? That's what this device feels like in your hand; like holding the edge of a coffee plate. Body Glove makes a case for the Touch Pro2 that can take a beating; the HD2 is fragile and I've yet to see a case for it that can take the beating the case for the TP2 can. What's in T-Mobile stores today is a clear case and a kick stand and if there was ever one device that cried out for a screen protector this baby is it.
The HD2 is one of those devices I like and I don't like and T-Mobile introduced the device at a price set lower than the introduction of the TP2 and I bet the house had they introduced the TP2 at $199; they'd been sold out too, but up to about a week before the HD2 launched TP2s went for $269.99 with contract.
My data plan is T-Mobile Web (Unlimited T-Zones) and it's no secret its identical in every function as Unlimited Web for Smart Phones; difference is $19 cheaper at $5.99. Retail vs Contract or $449.99 vs $199.99 or $250.00 difference. That's a payoff of the device in 13 months if I choose not to factor my older MyFaves Plan vs Even More or Even More Plus into the equation. For those of us who have been with any one provider, let's be real, a device with voice, text and data isn't exactly cheap.
For those of us with grandfather plans it isn't just how cool the device is; it too is do we go it without a contract or with a contract; however for us a contract forces us to change our plan. The irony of it is, there is nothing in T-Mobile T&C that says T-Mobile Web is any less of a data plan than web2go or Unlimited Web for Smart Phones.
Ill agree there, Web browsing is actually ENJOYABLE now on the HD2. Which is good!

[Q] after TP2

Time has come to get thinking about the new phone. i loved/still am tp2. What do look, Where to look. Please reccomned.
Nothing really good in sight.
Here is a comparison between the Desire Z and Touch Pro 2 in case you really want to upgrade.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=955526
The Desire Z seems really fragile especially the hinge - makes you wonder if one day it will break on you. I also consider to make a switch now that the TP2 is really old but a good replacement model has yet to come. Best is to go to a shop and try the Desire Z to see if it suits you.
Personally, I won't go to a Desire Z - maybe if you like a larger screen/Android, you can consider the Desire HD/Desire or even Hd2.

Those devices don't have a qwerty keyboard. They have a complete different form factor.

Thinking Nokia E7
I'm facing this dilemma as well...I've had my TP2 since day one and was greatly anticipating the 7Pro (HTC Arrive on Sprint). I was disappointed to see the 7Pro didn't have a front facing camera nor did most of the application work in landscape mode, this to me was the most alarming thing.
This has become very frustrating as I don't want to become a Blackberry guy, nor do I really want the Desire Z. What I want is a newer version Pro2 with the same keyboard and a smoother OS.
I was thinking the E7 might be a viable option even though its has a 4-row keyboard. The front facing camera will work with Tmobile's 3G...but the OS is Symbian3 which is severely behind Apple, Android, and Blackberry but it's the only real viable option in my opinion...
Although, cruising around Pocketnow.com I did see HTC trademarked the name Pro so the HTC Pro may be the long awaited Touch Pro 3...hopefully

I think the HTC Arrive is a worthy upgrade to the Touch Pro 2.
I just got my TP2 and am loving it.. when I do eventually look to upgrade this thing, my biggest feature need is TV-out, I use this and GPS more than anything. I have to keep with Windows or Android because of run.GPS which I use a large amount as well to track my runs and bikes.
Anyone know if any WP7 supports TV out at this time?

TP2 supports TV-Out - just need to buy the correct cable.
GSM or CDMA?

Thank you,
I have the correct cable, what I was trying to state is that and GPS are the most used functions on the phone (I use these features more than I use it as a phone!)
I was inquiring if there is any current WP7 phones that offer TV-Out, otherwise I dont see myself upgrading anytime in the future.
