Touch Pro 2 or Android? - HTC Excalibur

I love my Dash, and I'm not going to shun it away once I get a new phone. But I am with T-mobile right now and I'm due for a handset upgrade.
Do you guys think that I should get an Android phone (G1 or MyTouch3G) or the Touch Pro 2? I'm leaning towards the Touch Pro 2 which is rumored to come out on the 22nd of July for T-mobile USA.

I'm not a fan of Android. I woul definately go for the tp2.

Go for TP2!!

Yea thats what I did but there aren't that many people on that section yet. I'm sure that it will grow though. The only problem I have with the TP2 is the 3.5mm headphone jack... Why htc, WHY?????

Ehh, I'd rather not have ANOTHER hole in my phone.
I have an adapter anyways so no biggie for me.
I expect to get in the day it's released for TMO, because I am also ready for an upgrade, unless of course, you know, PSP phone xD

There are many experienced users, like beasty, have a look on his posts and threads.
Yes agree with 3.5mm very bad HTC
Anyway we are on Excalibur section
Android could be a good option in a few years, now is not mature yet...

As a Dash user (and previous G1 owner), I have some pretty strong feelings about the Android OS -- primarily that, in my opinion, it fails in several ways. For media, "schwanky-factor", and other non-essential purposes, it's likely better than a WM6.1 (or 6.5) enabled Dash. For things like making phone calls, Exchange support, and quick-usage, I would argue that the Dash is better -- even after all these years.
Here are some of my thoughts (from my blog):
http://yipcanjo.wordpress.com/tag/g1/
Having migrated back to my Dash a few months ago, I got to use my brother's (Cupcake-enabled) G1 about two weeks ago. I was instantly reminded of what I disliked about that phone. Android has a ways to go.
Personally... I'm VERY MUCH looking forward to the Touch2. Bring it on, T-Mobile! We're tired of waiting on you guys!!!!!

for me, it was about the price. Im not sure what the price point will be for the TP2, (guessing around the $249 to $299 range) but i just picked up a G1 from tmobile.com for an upgrade for $49.99.... w-no rebates. all instant savings yesterday! i told someone that for me ( cuz i've used the g1 first hand) the two phones are like two hot chicks that both want me.... either one i pick... i win!

I can't wait for July 22nd. I think that the Touch Pro2 is my best bet. However I wish that T-mobile will not change its styling. I really liked the chrome on the outside. Ugh, I hate it when carriers ruin stuff just to be 'unique'. I dunno, I won't know for sure until I go to T-mobile and try it out though.
And yipcanjo thanks for you blog post. I found it very informative.
Maybe HTC will blow us off our feet with their announcement tomorrow though, right?

Why the dash?

Im an ex T-Mobile Dash user, now upgraded to the G1. My question is why are you guys still fooling around with a phone that's almost 4 years old? There are such better phone out there. What is it about the dash that makes you guys so in love with it?
Don't know what exactly, but i have used a S200, a Hermes, a Kaiser and a diamond. And I always go back to the excalibur.
Sure a Kaiser is nice, as is the diamond, but I just love the Dash. think I allready had a dozen of them.buy broken ones from ebay, repair them, use them for some months, resell them when I got a better looking one. you can buy the broken once really cheap and mostly only the screen has to be repaired. And a simlock is removed in no time thanx to Jocky
I just don't like a touchscreen for daily use.

First of all the G1 is no upgrade LOL its a downgrade from the Dash, its nothing to brag about. I look at the G1 as I do sidekicks, pretty useless, but a cute toy.
I keep my Dash because at the moment its still the best. If the s522 (Maple, Snap whatever its going to be called) hits T-Mo and lives up to even half of the hype around it, then I may box up the old Dash.. we will have to wait and see.
well....
I think it comes down to what you need, I can do everything that I need to with my Dash: pop email, exchange mail, google maps, streaming radio, music, tv shows from my storage card, weather, appointments, reminders, tasks, games. I'm sure that I left out a lot more things, but really that's all I need. Ever since I purchased a 16 gig card and a extended battery that doesn't stick out from the back, I've been nothing but happy with my phone. The G1 might seem like a step up, but I have no real complaints about the dash. I've always felt that the next phone I'd get would have to be leaps and bounds better than the dash, and so far I don't see much that's worth buying along with the higher rates for data. The HTC touch pro 2 might be a worthy upgrade, so lets wait and see.
Milodog
forgot to mention
I forgot to mention that if you compare the G1 with a regular dash, then I would side with the G1, but with the help of this forum our dash's are tweaked like crazy, which is absolutely awesome, I've never had so much fun with a phone. take care
Milodog
just like you, even now you have a G1 still coming back to see the development and exploitation with our dash. how come
because the dash is usefull and its tweaked as i want it so i could use it it the way i want it
G1 not a good example of a phone lol, i use Tilt far more tweakable than G1 Still think the Dash kicks ass for an SP it's old but it's exemely functional, can be modded to user specification and is a 1/4 price of a G1....
My question would be "Why not a Dash?"

Agree my friend!
Apart from the love link one creates with a nice device like S621 exist the fact that some users don´t have the $ to change device every year, so oldest does not means bad, in fact there are some great old devices that to date still rocking even better than the new ones! Example? My Universal! and my S621!
Also Android OS is so young... I would not change to it till it has a more mature/twekable/customizable platfrom, meantime I´ll stick to WM withh al it´s defects

Amen! Nuff Said
There are other 'phones?
family
I think the main reason I still use the dash is because the family is just so massive, theres no other phone out there thats 4 years old that ppl still use and still want to come out with new roms and new programs for and everyone is just so friendly and supportive to keeping it alive
Why not the Dash?
For me, its a question of money. Firstly, I got into the drivers seat of the Dash for free, with no strings attached, literally. Yes, the Dash was $99 dollars, but My rebate Visa debit card for $100 is shipped as we speak, so basically I made a dollar on the deal. I would have had to pay $199 for the G1 with a two year contract, and me wants nothing to do with that, at least not at the moment.
Secondly, this is my first venture into smartphones or PPC's. I have a long history of standard phones, Moto V3re, Samsung hue, heck, even my Moto V190 is still working fine. I am willing to monkey around with the Dash more than I would, say, the G1. When I do get the G1 I won't be modding it at all, better believe that. I don't mind messing with the Dash, because if I brick it, I am really not out anything. I will in no way tinker with a more higher end smartphone or PPC that I am sure I will purchase when I tire of the Dash.
Thirdly, the Dash has everything and all that I want for the moment just starting to delve into the smartphone realm. I mean, WiFi, instant sync with my home comp., no problems when syncing with my laptop on the road for internet access, instant mail and messaging, PDA like functionality, I mean, the list goes on on and on. Oh, and did I mention, the qwerty keyboard one hand operation.
Granted, I know my Dash is a grandpa in this era of the new punks of superphones that are coming out practically every day. I know my Dash is antiquated and soon to be on T-Mobs chopping block. And I know that it goes just the same as computers, the day you buy it, it is already outdated. But, I love my Dash.
Let me turn your question around. Why *not* the Dash?
It's a well built smartphone, that runs the latest version of Windows (thanks to the guys at this forum) as well as the new phones. Additionally, the cost of entry or replacement is minimal.
I own mine, and have only about $50 in it, total. I use it with an ATT SIM, which means that my other options would have included a GoPhone...I have no desire to be under contract with any company.
So, why not a Dash?
4 years seems like a lot, but when you consider that the actual insides of most WM Smartphones haven't changed significantly...including the amount of RAM (are you listening, HTC?)...then why not just go for a well supported, good looking, and remarkably cheap phone that does everything we want it to...and which puts the "glamour" phones like the RAZR and BlackBerry to shame?
Chuck
so now you know!

Compared to my Kaiser, the Excaliburs keyboard is much easier to use. I gave my Excalibur to my son, but there are times I want it back. Only thing that really eliminates the Ex for me is the lack of GPS. The camera on the Ex is actually much beter than the Kaiser as well. Hopefully, they address this with the Touch Pro 2. Touch screen is handy, but it can be annoying at times too.
Why not?
Best phone I've had, even when I look at my iPhone.

You obviously have no clue what your talking about. The dash is a thing of the past and although i love my dash it isn't even in the same league as the g1. I know we all love our dashes but it is no upgrade over the g1 don't kid yourself. The g1 and sidekicks are 2 way different phones and i can say that because i have owned both. Sidekick is for messaging and email. Its obvious you don't own either a sidekick or g1 cause you compare them as if they are the same phone. Yes they both have keyboards, that's where it ends. I'm not being a jerk man don't get me wrong but saying a g1 is a downgrade from dash is like saying rotary phones are an upgrade over touch dial phones.

I still have mine so i love both. I know you don't have a g1 so your comments really don't hold much weight, but the g1 is fully customizable now and will only get better. The g1 is a real phone, don't really understand how you 2 can speak on a phone you don't use. The only reason i'm commenting is because i have used all and own both g1 and dash. You know i respect you very much man so don't take my comments as an insult k? Don't mean it that way and thats directed towards both of you.
Had a Dash, supposedly "upgraded" to G1, then "downgraded" to Dash. Used both, Dash won.

Time to move along from the Dash?!?

Hey, guys. Been reading the "Excalibur" forum for quite awhile now. Really great stuff. Thanks!
So... I have some moula to get a phone, and I'm kicking my options around. My Dash, while currently fine with the Ookba WM6.5 ROM, is feeling pretty long in the tooth. Probably a good time to kick this over to my wife and get myself something new. But what to get? I'm sticking with T-Mobile, so no question there.
Here are my thoughts...
- T-Mobile MyTouch 3G and extend my contract an additional two years
- HTC Fuze (used) and load the latest XDA rom
- HTC Diamond (used) and load the latest XDA rom
- something else???
Not sure if I'm really stoked on the Android world, but the Hero-based ROMs coming outta XDA look pretty sweet. Upcoming Exchange support is a must as well. Otherwise, are the Fuze and Diamond phones as sweet as they look? Any other suggestions??
Thanks,
Yip
Why not the Touch Pro2 with all it's 3G goodness when it comes out in August?
since you said tmobile, my choice would be the G1 with the keyboard.

I agree 100%.
The HTC Touch Pro2 is set to be released by T-Mobile on August 12th in the US.
This is going to be one bad-ass phone. Of course, it will (I believe) come with WM6.1 stock, from the factory.

I've thought about that, of course, and the Touch Pro 2 is *amazing*, but I'm guessing it'll be about $399 on contract, or so, which is out of my range. I'm hoping to spend about $200.
Anyone here have the Fuze or Diamond? Are those phones pretty great?

Just hop over to Fuze section look @ the ROMs etc
Same goes for anything in your price bracket give you an idea of what can be acomplished
TP2 would defo be my choice
Mine too: TP2
But long live to Excalibur!!
I appreciate your input, guys. I both *love* and *loathe* trying to figure stuff like this out...
So, it looks like about $220 is really my limit, unfortunately, which probably leaves me either choosing a myTouch 3G or a (used) Fuze. Do warranties carry over with used phones?
It'd be easier to decide on the myTouch phone if T-Mobile would come clean on the *actual* Exchange Support they'll offer, but they're being unnecessarily coy on the topic. Also, I really wish that myTouch came with the higher (288megs) of RAM, but it doesn't appear to I would love to get a copy of the SenseUI running on that sucker!
Anyhow.... myTouch 3G vs. Fuze. Thoughts? Pros/cons??
it was mentioned once before, why not the dash 3g?
my thoughts are to stick with a WM phone, i strayed a little and did not like it

The Dash 3G is ok, but I'm a bit miffed at the *lack* of real upgrade as compared to the original Dash! Same screen size/resolution, low-rez camera w/ no flash, and no touchable screen. It's faster, of course, and with 3G speeds, but otherwise a pretty minimal update. Also, T-Mobile has priced the phone TOO high. It should be $99 at most, but they're asking $169 w/ two year contract.
Not well done, in my opinion.
So... I finally had some "hands on" time with both the Fuze and the myTouch 3G. There is a LOT to be said for actually having/using the device in your hands, ya know?
FUZE
I'm hoping that the stock ROM is well-known to be really poor on this phone, because it was embarassingly bad to use. It was extremely sluggish (even after a reboot) and I had a lot of miss hits while trying to choose or open things. Do the WM6.5 ROMs for the Fuze improve upon the usability a lot? I would certainly hope so. In-store, the Fuze was a big disappointment.
myTouch 3G
Our local T-Mobile shop had one of these to check out. Actually, it was an employees personal phone that he let me look at (which was slightly awkward, but whatever). I've had quite a bit of time with the G1, and the myTouch was significantly smaller and more comfortable in my hand. The on-screen keyboard takes getting used to, but overall the phone seemed responsive and attractive. A nice device!
So... I'm still torn, but leaning toward the myTouch

Release Date and User Manual for ATT TILT 2 aka Touch Pro 2 aka Fortress

From a very reliable source it seems we can expect the Touch Pro 2 to release with ATT in October 2009.
So save up your cash!
I'm very confident that my intel is solid. I'll see if I can get a pricing quote and exact date soon and post.
Been waiting for the chance to contribute to XDA. Hopefully this tibdit will be a good start, until I learn to cook!!
-----
Just saw some of the posts regarding the keyboard and button layout and such.
I primarily checked out the new icon based HTC theme, the keyboard was large standard querty and very similar to the LG Xenon's at ATT if you want a good comparison (but bigger of course).
I'll inquire about the PTT button/functionality and other questions and post.
----------
9/3/09 update
1 - 3.5 Audio Jack - confirmed?? -> probably not, as per manual, box comes with 3.5mm adapter!!
2 - HTC TF 3D fully integrated icon based interface
Also late september may be the time...we shall see
--------------
10/5/2009
It seems my call on this was on point!
At this point the official release date seems to be 10/8/09. This is the target for the phones to hit distribution. Hopefully this means it will hit stores on this date as well
Here is some more information I was able to dig up:
1—PTT is available on the Tilt 2, not the Pure. It is a standard button on the side below the volume keys and can be reprogrammed if the customer didn’t want to use the PTT feature.
2—The Tilt 2 has a full sliding 5-row qwerty keyboard customized by ATT.
3—Opera browser offering Push Internet capability (no waiting for the page to load) and also the latest Internet Explorer Mobile w/Flash support. Opera is the default browser, IE still in OS as alternate browser.
4—Integrated Facebook and Flickr. If your contacts update either of those sites, it’s automatically updated for you on their contact card.

seriously?? OCTOBER?? I was hoping it wouldn't be that late. after it went from supposedly being released in october to august, I was hoping it just stay at august. man AT&T does NOT know how to satisfy their customers.
yea, I agree the wait sucks. Makes sense though since ATT has usually releases new HTC stuff in the mid to late 4th quarter, despite all the online rumors that claim late summer releases. But I saw the Touch Pro 2 live and in action, and the new interface and larger screen are definitely worth it.
Besides, The tiny screen on my Fuze is killing me!
My kingdom for more screen real estate...
lol at least you have a relatively new phone! my tilt is frustrating me to no end! I can't even use n onscreen keyboard like fingertouch pro cos the phone won't recognize certain presses. so instead of typing 'phone' i'll get 'pjine'. it doesn't even have a g sensor! so when im bored I can't even play teeter or any of those boredeom-fighting games that utilize a g sensor.
but I agree, the TP2 will be worth it. completely.
I doubt we will have to wait until October. Historically, AT&T has released HTC phones 4-6 weeks after they were released to our friends across the pond. This is one of the most highly anticipated phones of the year, do you think AT&T would want to risk losing potential customers to Verizon or T-Mobile who are likely to release it in August? Also, if that spec sheet we saw on the Fortress a while back was real, then AT&T initially had plans to release this device almost two months ago.
I hope what you say comes true. shorter wait would be nice.
Keep in mind the Diamond 2 is releasing with ATT as well. Would make sense financially for them not to release 2 HTC phones simultaneously and have the sales bump heads. Look at the Windows Mobile lineup going back, they don't normally have 2 HTC pocket PC's on the the roster at once.

Ahh I had the tilt and loved it. Still have but mic went out :/
now going to use it to play with rom cooking and apps etc. Downloading the new Developer kits from MS as we speak.
Dont the xda chefs have win 6.5 and tf3d and all running on the tilt by now? that wouldn't help with that touch issue?
Can't wait till more games and apps come out for winmo utilizing the g-sensor will def need that for these upcoming devices.

yea there are WM 6.5 roms and TF3D (more like TF2D) roms out there. I've used a big handful of them. I steered away from 6.5 due to the fact that it doesn't run quite as well as I'd like it to on my tilt. I like the simple look of it, but I just don't like how I have to install different .cab files in order to add a program launcher and people tab and other tabs are readily available with every ROM that runs 6.1.
but yes, an earlier release date would be great! I'm getting tired of waiting...I've been waiting since january/february and it's getting harder lol

After seeing this thread, this was the same question I wanted to ask. It would be real nice and worth the wait if 3.5 mm jack is included.
Cripes, 2 extra months for that, though.... Ugh.
since WM6.5 is getting closer to an official release, do you guys think that ATT's TP2 will be released with WM6.5 out of box?
as far as I know, the 3.5 mm headphone jack is only going to be included on CDMA variants.
If they do indeed hold off until an October release (ugh), that could very well be. WMPU says as much.
The latest builds from Da_G and others (21925 and 21928) include some of the new UI components and rumoured AT&T version of The HTC Touch Pro 2 and Touch Diamond 2 will also get updates to WM6.5.1.

my friend at ATT hes district manager said august 17th-august 24th...i hope hes right...he was right bout the Fuze...i really want to start playing with a new device...but Touch Pro 2 HardSPL has not release so i dont mind the wait too much
I also talked to a friend of mine in ATT management, he went up the the chain of command for me and came back to tell me that no one is talking about the TP2, or should I say they are not letting the info come down the chain. The reason is the iPhone, it's sales are so strong they do not want another device taking away from it. They are also wanting all their sales people to focus on that phone. So Oct sounds right, maybe even Nov to help their end of year sales and Christmas sales.
I talked to a friend of mine in ATT management. He talked his supervisor into going up the management chain. He said that his supervisor said that the regional manager said that they were due in November 2011.
Hey, I can totally do that, too!

I think this is what I am going to do next month because this month I'm totally broke from buying a car. Beside I don't think that the AT&t version is going to look as nice as the unlock one. Did you see how ugly is the T-mobile version? It doesn't look business at all. I prefer paying more money to get the good original nice looking. Also, I don't know why I have this feeling that ATT will mess with keyboard. This feeling is like %93. have a look at the all ATT's phone, they have the same numeric layout. They feel like this is "our look"

HTC Touch Pro 2 = Fail?

I think so and I will tell you why. I have been following this phone since it was announced long ago. I to have been a proud HTC device owner but these days I am not so proud anymore.
I am a Windows Mobile fan. Currently I am using my old trusty or not so trusty these days HTC Kaiser/TYTN2. I became a big fan of the tilt feature. I am a tmobile user so back when the Kaiser was released not having 3g bands was not an issue because tmobile did not have 3g. I bought the Euro version and paid top dollar.
Since then its been hacked and modded to reduce glitches and increase speed but lets face it. The keyboard is worn and almost all keys require a super hard press due to wear and tear. Also the screen is tiny by todays standards. I didnt buy the Euro version of the TP2 because I live in the US and 3g is now an issue. So I waited for the tmobile release now confirmed for aug 12th. Right around the corner!
Those of you who didn't wait seem to be reporting endless bugs and glitches not to mention hardware problems. It is driving me nuts to the point that I am shying away from the TP2 hype. I have been following all the TP2 threads here and its bads news after bad news. Very different from when you all 1st got it.
Please someone speak some positive stuff otherwise I may end up holding onto my Kaiser for another year. Final rant.....the specs could be better. Damn Iphoney has an 800mhz processor and HTC just holds back!
I absolutely love it. I have not one problem with it, except for the battery door. I had to modify it a little but know its fine. Out of the 4 HTC phones I have owned, I think this is the best by far. Good luck with your findings.
Although I won't argue with you, the touch pro2 is a great phone for what it's intended for which is business users. It is lacking a bit hardware wise for multimedia and gaming, since it pretty much has the same processor and memory as its predecessor. It is for this reason that I am still trying to decide between the TP2 and samsung omnia II since it has the faster processor and beautiful AMOLED screen. So if you are shying away from the TP2 I would recommend the omnia II or the omnia pro (has hardware keyboard). Even though it annoyingly lacks a built in stylus (but thats just me).

Its probably not wear and tear. Its the same thing that happens with TV remotes. Over time, the oils from your fingers seep through the buttons and interfere with the contacts. If you were to take the keyboard appart and wipe down the contacts, no garauntee, but I bet it would work like new.
i think most of the problems people have (including myself) on their TP2 is 3rd party softwares imcompatable to the new UI on TP2. hope HTC will offer an update for TP2 sooner than September.
if you turn away from it for Samsung OmniaHD, make sure buy it from a local Samsung stores or from your mobile operator. i've been in a deep problem trying to get my Omnia i900 fixed. i bought my i900 from an idiot ebay seller named Cutrategoods70. when my i900 bricked from a firmware update, i tried to contact that idiot, never get a reply. i emailed SS service center in UK (coz SS US & Canada never heard of this model), thay told me to send to them. 5 weeks later they sent it back & said they not support "foreign unit". emailed SS Singapore & Malaysia, they said the same thing. Becareful when you buy a Samsung on ebay or internet stores
good luck for you finding the right device
I think is totally normal to see so many posts about defects / bugs. Usually, peoples who post threads here need help with something. If everyone posted a thread about "Everything's fine with my TP2" when their TP2 is working flawlessly ... well... it would be pretty useless to do that.
Think about it : it's normal to find broken cars in a car dealer's garage. It doesn't mean the car model is crap.
I second that. You will normally see threads asking how to improve things or how to fix things.
Most of the posts here are when people need something, find something that they think could help others, and that's about it. The closest thing you can find to general chat would be the speculation on future support or release dates.
In forums for my last phone you saw threads on how to fix things, and for new software made for it (as a closed platform it had to be hacked and forums where the few places you could get software for the OS, unlike Winmo).
If you'll notice many of the threads are duplicates, and some of the complaints are somewhat invalid as the phone was never designed to do X thing (a prime example are the complaints that the Euro version doesn't support North American 3G bands.
Every phone will have defects and problems unless it's a very well built dumb phone. The question is, just how many people are having said problems, and out of how many satisfied customers without those problems?
Like vakbrain said, you're not going to find a new thread singing the praises of the phone from every person who is happy with it. It'd be extremely tedious, boring, and space consuming.
I love my TP2. I bought it SIM-free so it was quite an investment of cash, but I think it was worth every penny. It has the odd glitch here and there, but then so does any piece of complex modern equipment. I'd fully recommend it without any hesitation at all.
I think my TP2 is great! Ive alerady installed some handy apps to it. Havent had any issues with the device itself really, more like things relating to it. Finding a Good belt clip case for it seems to be a challenge, and Finnic isnt finished yet, so it runs like crap. I would have liked to have a 3.5mm jack on it, but im dealing with the adapter. I do wish TouchFlo had its own Slide to Unlock on it, but meh. i have s2u2 for the moment.

hi Lyian, could you please tell me does s2u2 work ok on yours?
i installed the WQVGA v2.04, it doesn't look right to me since everything so small & sticking together. VGA version look normal on my screen. other thing is when i set On Battery Power>Blank Screen on Talk, it works once, try the 2nd time the screen off then back on again. any idea to config it right?
thanks
I am using S2U2 on mine and it works fine. I am using the VGA version and it's flawless.
I love my Pro2!! no problems at all!!
One big difference
Hi all
Thought I'd add a comment.
The one big difference between my Touch Pro2 and every other HTC phone is that the TP2 works extremely well out of the box and while some people are annoyed with all the bundled software (i.e. M3D and it's incalculable extensions) I actually think that this makes is a better device and would rather have more of this than less.
The point is: It does everything I want it to almost out of the box. This has not been the case with any other HTC device I have owned/used.
Best wishes

Although I won't argue with you, the touch pro2 is a great phone for what it's intended for which is business users. I wouldn't recommend the OMNIA II or PRO because they have only 137MB of RAM. That's hardly enough to run any software. I was really looking forward to the new OMNIA phones but it's a big disappointment with the lack of ram. I do admit other specs on the phone looks great but without the right amount of ram, the phone is very limited.
No Fail
Had my TP2 for just over a week now, so still getting used to it but I've had absolutely NO issues with it, so far it has surpassed my expectations. It seems fast, responsive and I like the functionality.
The guys who point out that people write in to forums with problems are absolutely correct. People don't just write in to say "I love it" most people here seem to be advanced users, happy to tweak and hack their phones to get that extra 10% out of them.
I'm a business user, I don't anticipate playing many games (that's what the DS/PSP etc. are for) and as a business user I think this phone rocks!
My anti-fail 2c!
No problems at all with mine. Very impressed, kicks my TP's ass in every department except LED flash.
Brilliant phone, top marks to TF3d too.
Well, I haven't gotten a TP2 yet - still waiting for AT&T to release theirs - in the meantime I'm living with my 2.5 year old Virgin Mobile USA prepaid phone, but ready to make the leap to a contract.
What I can say is that the phenomenon where everyone writes in to a forum (especially a big one like XDA) about their issues makes the problems seem much worse than they actually are. For every person posting here about a problem there are at least 2 more that have had NO problem and wouldn't even think of coming to an online forum to solve issues with their phone.
For example, I bought an Asus EeePC last fall, and went to the premier EeePC forum at the time to see what others were saying - it sounded depressing too! Everyone with issues. Then I realized that A) people wouldn't go to a forum to solve a problem if they didn't love the device and wanted to keep it, they'd just get rid of it if they didn't like it, and B) the people who come to forums are device tweakers who must have things just so (I'm one of them too) and thus are looking for feedback regarding their particular pet peeve or issue caused by the one program they just MUST use. People complained about cracks in the hardware, or messed up keyboards, or whatever, but I've thrown my EeePC 1000H in and out of airports plenty of months and it has yet to be less than 100% satisfying, other than the $150 drop in price over when I bought it 10 months ago!
So, what I'm saying is, this is a phenomenon unique to the interwebz and electronics junkies in general, so don't be discouraged by all the negatives around here, in the end we're all just questing to make an amazing device even closer to perfect.

I must agree with Andrew. I own about 15 HTC phones, starting with the Wallaby, back in 2002. When I unboxed my TP2, I immediately thought 'what do I have to modify now?'. But it worked perfectly out of the box and i havent modified anything. I only installed my connection and Coreplayer... Simply good.
One flaw however is the resolution, which is incompatible with some of my software. But those titles are not vital for me.
So, now I am waiting for the next big hit... HTC SUPERSTAR...where are you??????

The WQVGA is the wrong version for the TP2, you want the VGA version (WQVGA is for smaller resolution phones like the Tilt)
I would say it does work 'ok' on mine. I do have an issue with it here and there that i wont go into here, but for the most part, it doest what i want it to, which is, to keep me from accidentally calling people lol.
OP needs to stop worrying, TP2 is a fantastic device and also get off the apple hype bs, iPhone doesn't have an 800mhz processor lol, more like around 600 for the 3GS, even less for the 3G.

Going back to my Blackberry!

I MIGHT be going back to my Blackberry! I miss it... The only feature that I'm really going to miss on my TP2 is the Youtube app. I wish Blackberry had an ultimate youtube app.
I know what you guys are thinking. TP2 can do so much more and yeah I know that, but I'm a blackberry fan. The only reason I got the TP2 was to try it and I liked it. It's a great phone and all, but in the back of my head I was thinking about my Blackberry. So once the Blackberry BOLD 9700 drops in Nov. for T-Mobile, I'm there.
If you guys are interested in buying a T-Mobile TP2 around when Nov. starts let me know, I will be selling it for $399 and everything comes with it except my beautiful EASECASE then. If not then I'll put it up on the XDA and craigslist for sale.

I was looking at my cousins 8900 which was the one I use to have before the TP2. I have a feeling I will regret it if I go back because the TP2 is so much better. So yeah I will just wait until RIM releases something crazy and NEW...If ever!

I bought the BB Bold 9700, I have the TP 2 & Diam 1 & the Nova (Touch) laid off, maybe i come back with the HTC Throphy when WM works better

Shame to hear your case...
For me it is a great business device which fills all my needs
If you decide to sell ask a Mod to move this post to it´s proper section, so you´ll have more chances to sell your Rhodium.
