HTC just release photos of their 09 phone lineup, dates haven't been said or who's carrying which phone. I just hope for tmobile to pick up the dash2, it would be dumb of them not to ,considering there the ones that carry the dash.
check this for the link to the report. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3290798&postcount=12
Probably the Touch Pro 2. I think it's time I moved on from smartphones.
either the dash 2 or the curve 8900
gave it up for a touch pro....gave that up for a g1...
honestly, i would have given it up for a 1st gen nokia from 1990. the battery issue and what not just got old..i was sick of having a phone that would randomly work, or eat batteries etc...
lol i remember playing snake for hours on that beast!
I think I´ll never give up to my Exaclibur, it will be here!
But I would love to buy the upcoming HTC Rhodium or the Topuch pro II !!
if the dash2 comes to t-mo, with 3g. otherwise, the g2 if it's nice looking/easy exchange support
Given up for Tilt, still use the Dash as second phone but doesn't do much anymore..........
It would have to be the Dash 2, otherwise I don't really see any phones that catch my interest right now. I've been pretty happy with my dash.
Maple
Yeah - I still prefer the keypad over the full touchscreen, and the sliders are too bulky, so if the Maple is on TMo 3G and has a MUCH better camera than the Dash then I will get it. I mean really - is it too much to ask to have at least 3 megapixels with decent pic quality on your phone? Sony knows how to do it!
I also hate that there are no HSPDA 3G phones that work for both AT&T and TMo 3G data. What's the point of having unlocked phones if you can't do 3G on both networks?
For me the phone has to have great voice quality (Dash does) and let me type lots of large emails and notes quickly (Dash does). I really want it to sync with my mail server and browse Internet sites quickly (Dash doesn't) and take decent pics (Dash seriously doesn't). Being able to switch from AT&T 3G to TMo 3G would be really perfect.
I second this also i hope it has a scroll wheel or something like that.. and proper volume control otherwise im happy wit my excaliber
I got to say I'm pretty happy with my dash for now. So I figure by the time the dash 2 comes out, price drops a little ( under 400 bucks ) The masters of XDA come out with some sick tweaks and roms, then I'll get mine.

How many of you hope that when/if T-mobile brands this phone it isn't the Cavalier but some entirely new phone?
hopfully not for awhile cuz i just got the dash 3 months ago.
I wouldn't mind the S630 at all.
Where did you hear this... rumour ?
I don't think it will be a Cav, unless the Cav has about double the battery life and is 3G ready. Trying to predict the future from reading Gizmodo/etc. and biweekly Tmobile chattings, I think it doesn't cut the mark for what Tmo US has planned.
However, if they did push it, it would probably get the Cav in widespread circulation enough to get it some decent development, which it currently lacks. Until it is popped wide open, I'm not interested.
So I think the Cav is not the Dash 2. And I think the Shadow 2 will be around looong before a Dash 2. My two cents, now 100% off, one night only.

I dont know what kind of "development" you're expecting for the Cavalier. I mean... it's a standard smartphone... it's a Dash on steroids. What makes it so special that the current applications developed for landscape smartphones, wouldn't work on it ?
T-Mobile in the US needs to step their game up. Our phones out here suck. When I first got my Dash about a year ago I was one of the only people I knew who had it. Now I see it everywhere because they haven't released anything good. Nothing new. Who wants a Smurf looking phone or a the Shadow (looks cheap)? If there is a new smartphone or PDA from HTC I can't wait to see it for T-Mobile. Does anybody know a loophole I can slip through to get my hands on a T-Mobile UK phone without paying $600?

I don't see why people have such a problem with the Cavalier! It's an awesome phone. We all love our Excaliburs...and from what I understand, the Cavalier is nothing but a "next-gen" Excalibur. That's a good thing...right? If the Dash 2 is the Cavalier or isn't the Cavalier--either way I'm anticipating it's release.

I'm not hating on the Cavalier. I've only heard that all the new smartphones Tmobile US is interested in have to have a much longer talk time on WiFi than, for example, the Dash. Since the Cavalier is similarly sized, I suspect it is similar in battery life. And I am not aware of it being 3G, which they have said all the new high-end phones will be.

Well the cavalier ( at least the ones sold in the UK and japan ) have 3g , dont know if its UTMS or HSDPA. but the only complain people have is the battery life on the device. Since it includes a more robust 400mhz proc (made by samsung i think?) and includes 3g It is naturally have a shorter battery life. (unless they have found another battery with more "juice" to offset the extra power and bandwidth)

The Cavalier is buggy and not worthy to succeed the Dash.
http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=reviews&id=977
They should have at least kept the rounded corners.
Cavalier is not significantly better
I bought Cavalier a few months ago to be used on T-Mobile network. I ended up selling it and keeping the Dash. Here is my impression:
- The phone did not feel fast despite the processor, because the O/S was not optimized for it.
- Battery drained in 1 day or less depending on usage.
- T-Mo does not have 3G, so internet was about the same.
I am honestly getting tired of the JOGGR. Makes me want to get another phone. However, I like the HTC's and I do not want a touchscreen device.
Thanks guys, for all the insights and opinions on the Cavalier. I honestly thought it would be just as good (if not, better) than its predecessor... I've been playing around with the thought of getting an unlocked Cav from Best Buy's website, but after reading all these posts--I'm not so sure...
well, i have a N73 right now, and i really want to get a more user-friendly phone. i like Windows mobile, and im a T-Mobile Customer. im thinking about getting the black dash, since im not really interested in the wi-fi part, but just an online browser out-side home. i have an itouch, and i just got it recently, so i dont want to throw it out or anything. im also into hacking/messing with my phones or electronics, so again, ive found some cool things on the dash that are cool. The g1 isnt appealing to me cause im not a fan of touchscreeens w/o stylus, or a slideout keyboard.
the only reason id want the g1's 3g would be to browse things like facebook, and it doesnt have a decent app for it, so im not really interested, much do i care about it.
what do u guys think? should i just go with a g1 rather than be stuck with a 3 year old phone for 2 more years? thanks!

Or just wait till March when the Dash 2 is set for release... opps did I just spoil the surprise
It all depends really, it seems like you dislike alot about the g1. The g1 is set for a big time update and in my opinion is better off without a stylus. 3g browsing is unreal, superfast!!! I have both and love both but g1 is my baby now. Plus the new update will come with onscreen keyboard, video recorder, and tons of new goodies. It is new however and will take time to catch up to wm so if you decide to get it you have to be patient. Flash for g1 is also being developed by adobe. My opinion is the g1, dont lynch me guys i do love my dash lol.
IF you want to use data away from wifi, you definitely want something with 3g. There's no comparison between 3g and edge service.

Since we saw a couple of weeks ago htc's '09 roadmap, I've been waiting to find more info on the HTC S511 'Cedar', and it looks they are finally here.
PDAdb.net just added the (incomplete) specs for the device.
Can't wait for it to be released, and I'm hoping that some local carrier gets it ASAP.
What are your thoughts?
There's no info yet on the battery or weight, whatsoever, but if the stock battery doesn't get me throught the day I won't mind changing for a high capacity one as long as its form factor is similar to the dash one.
Looks good, i hope its in black or atleast a black shell is availbe.
I really really wished they atleast added a 2.5mm audio output... itd be nice to be able to charge it while listening to music...
Any guesses on a price if tmobile gets it? if its in the 200-300 range.. im all over that

That site indicates the S620 has IR. Pretty sure that's incorrect.
The fuzzy image of the Cedar reminds me of the Palm Centro. Except the Centro of course has a touch screen.
Glad to see a replacement, but I have personally outgrown WindowsMobile Standard. It's almost time for me to move on to a touchscreen or a Blackberry.
damn I swapped my Dash for a G1....when this comes out I may have to cop it straight up just to have it.

My fault... Seeing the specs it looked like the straight replacement for the dash, but I should have noticed it's a S5xx series, and I suppose dash replacement will be S6xx, or something of the sorts.
Anyway, specs-wise looks good.

Just wondering why you're talking about the mda mail on the dash replacement thread.
Hey, guys. Been reading the "Excalibur" forum for quite awhile now. Really great stuff. Thanks!
So... I have some moula to get a phone, and I'm kicking my options around. My Dash, while currently fine with the Ookba WM6.5 ROM, is feeling pretty long in the tooth. Probably a good time to kick this over to my wife and get myself something new. But what to get? I'm sticking with T-Mobile, so no question there.
Here are my thoughts...
- T-Mobile MyTouch 3G and extend my contract an additional two years
- HTC Fuze (used) and load the latest XDA rom
- HTC Diamond (used) and load the latest XDA rom
- something else???
Not sure if I'm really stoked on the Android world, but the Hero-based ROMs coming outta XDA look pretty sweet. Upcoming Exchange support is a must as well. Otherwise, are the Fuze and Diamond phones as sweet as they look? Any other suggestions??
Thanks,
Yip
Why not the Touch Pro2 with all it's 3G goodness when it comes out in August?
since you said tmobile, my choice would be the G1 with the keyboard.

I agree 100%.
The HTC Touch Pro2 is set to be released by T-Mobile on August 12th in the US.
This is going to be one bad-ass phone. Of course, it will (I believe) come with WM6.1 stock, from the factory.

I've thought about that, of course, and the Touch Pro 2 is *amazing*, but I'm guessing it'll be about $399 on contract, or so, which is out of my range. I'm hoping to spend about $200.
Anyone here have the Fuze or Diamond? Are those phones pretty great?

Just hop over to Fuze section look @ the ROMs etc
Same goes for anything in your price bracket give you an idea of what can be acomplished
TP2 would defo be my choice
Mine too: TP2
But long live to Excalibur!!
I appreciate your input, guys. I both *love* and *loathe* trying to figure stuff like this out...
So, it looks like about $220 is really my limit, unfortunately, which probably leaves me either choosing a myTouch 3G or a (used) Fuze. Do warranties carry over with used phones?
It'd be easier to decide on the myTouch phone if T-Mobile would come clean on the *actual* Exchange Support they'll offer, but they're being unnecessarily coy on the topic. Also, I really wish that myTouch came with the higher (288megs) of RAM, but it doesn't appear to I would love to get a copy of the SenseUI running on that sucker!
Anyhow.... myTouch 3G vs. Fuze. Thoughts? Pros/cons??
it was mentioned once before, why not the dash 3g?
my thoughts are to stick with a WM phone, i strayed a little and did not like it

The Dash 3G is ok, but I'm a bit miffed at the *lack* of real upgrade as compared to the original Dash! Same screen size/resolution, low-rez camera w/ no flash, and no touchable screen. It's faster, of course, and with 3G speeds, but otherwise a pretty minimal update. Also, T-Mobile has priced the phone TOO high. It should be $99 at most, but they're asking $169 w/ two year contract.
Not well done, in my opinion.
So... I finally had some "hands on" time with both the Fuze and the myTouch 3G. There is a LOT to be said for actually having/using the device in your hands, ya know?
FUZE
I'm hoping that the stock ROM is well-known to be really poor on this phone, because it was embarassingly bad to use. It was extremely sluggish (even after a reboot) and I had a lot of miss hits while trying to choose or open things. Do the WM6.5 ROMs for the Fuze improve upon the usability a lot? I would certainly hope so. In-store, the Fuze was a big disappointment.
myTouch 3G
Our local T-Mobile shop had one of these to check out. Actually, it was an employees personal phone that he let me look at (which was slightly awkward, but whatever). I've had quite a bit of time with the G1, and the myTouch was significantly smaller and more comfortable in my hand. The on-screen keyboard takes getting used to, but overall the phone seemed responsive and attractive. A nice device!
So... I'm still torn, but leaning toward the myTouch
I currently have the ATT Fuze. Like many of us on ATT, I have been waiting impatiently for the Touch Pro 2. I decided to jump ship and get the Touch Pro 2 from Sprint. After 3 days with the device, I decided to return it.
Here are some of the issues:
The GPS lag is still there - Come on, this is what bothered me most on the Fuze; it is not as bad on the Touch Pro 2, but you still have a 2 second lag. I don't get it. My ATT Tilt performed better than both the TP and TP2 in that regard.
The device feels slow - not very snappy as I hoped it would be.
Program/Tweaks incompatibility - Many Tweaks that work on the TP do not work on the TP2 - Phoenalarm, Sashimi etc.
Maybe I expected too much, but I feel I have been let down by HTC. Of course, it is possible that some of these issues are related to the Sprint network, but I really expected more from the TP2.
Once the TP2 comes out on ATT, it will already be outdated - see HTC Leo.
I think at this point, I will have a closer look at the Samsung Omnia 2 when it comes out on Verizon, but I will skip the TP2.

You have some serious issues.
To the OP:
HTC has been known to not put high end processors on their devices. As far as i know, the Sprint version of the TP2 has some issues with the "Sprint" software. But all in all, this device completly obliterates the fuze by a large margin.
I like how both the replies had to be edited for language haha

I have no lag, my phone is snappier than any phone in existence in the US right now, Sashimi works fine, and I have never used Phone Alarm. I'm sorry yours was broken...
I thinki there must be a quality control issue at htc.. because i have a sprint touch pro2 and my phone is faster than my pro 1 in every aspect. its 10x faster and i never had any problems with software incompatability with the exception of manila tweaks which is expected being this is a new version of tf3d. I feel like some people get duds and some get lucky like myself and get great devices
I ended up buying a Verizon TP2 after I returned the Sprint one. I received it yersterday and so far I have been very happy. Snappy, loud, great voice quality. Either I had a defective unit or the problems were due to Sprint bloatware modifications or the Sprint network is just lousy in Minneapolis.
The Fuze was the biggest turd, even with different ROMs running TF3D was horrible experience.
The Verizon GPS has little or no lag so it must be a Sprint issue.
The Rhodium is a good Smartphone, not perfect but better that it's old model, the one that he replaces.
My experience was the total opposite. I waited for the verizon tp2 forever, when i ordered it, vzw told me that only my main line on my family account could get the upgrade price. that pissed me off, since my wife also needed a new smartphone since we are both realtors. vzw only worked in half of my house, the othe were dead zones. i called up sprint, they sent me this phone, a palm pre and about 250 dollars off with prepaid visa cards and service rebates to offset the price difference. once i got the phones, i have total service now in my house, couldnt be happier. im located in san diego.

You are crazy, Iphone 3gs has much more horsepower under the hood.
ANSwer to all your replies should start and end with the same reasoning. IT HAS THE SAME CHIPSET FROM FROM THE TP AND RUNNING ON 528mhz. HTC has used the same chipset for the last 3 years.
My T-Mobile TP2 has the worst signal strength of any phone I have had in the last few years.. It does not work at my house, drops calls while driving and always has 2 bars less than my Mytouch..
I thought it was the phone but I had the phone exchanged and the new one is the same.
I wish it worked better, I love everything else about it, but if it does not work at my house it is worthless...
Give it time
Give it some time. You are just paying an early adopters fee. Once the ROM guys get it open and start working on it it will be become a much better phone. GPS taking a few seconds to get a lock is practically instantaneous. Mine does seem a little laggy, but I can blame that on bloatware. Most all of the problems I've had were software related. Like the visual voicemail taking two days to let me know I got a message, and the SMS freaking out.
Have faith young Jedi.
GPS lag is negligible after doing the GPS Tweaks on here + radio update to 4.xxxx. Use TomTom almost daily now, love it!

I'm surprised Sprint worked inyour house and VZW didn't.
