Hi there
Firstly i am a very heavy user of my PDA's but not very technical & apologies for long post, but cant find the answers anywhere else on this site.
Have been using HTC SIM free handsets for approx 4.5 Years now, and been using a HTC TyTN II for the last year, updated the ROM from WM6.0 to WM 6.1 then everything started going wrong so decided to spend the £500 to jump to the HTC Touch Pro 2 but am very frustrated and almost at the point of going back to the TyTN II or going to another brand of phone as none of the software that i had on my TyTN II works with the Touch Pro 2 WM 6.1, as follows:
1. TomTom Navigator 6 does not work but works on TyTN II WM 6.1?
2. TomTom Navigator 7 (Tried it & HTC Confirmed it will not work either)
3. MS Voice Command or any other voice command software does not work
4. Many other MUST HAVE programs i had on TyTN II WM6.1 also will not work now
5. Company supplied software wont work either,
6. It also wont work with my Landrover Freelander 2 PTI kit, so am forced to go back to a BT Headset
Surely PDA software OS 6.1 cant be that different from version 6.0 in my experience with the TyTN II as 6.1 just had small enhancements to 6.0?
I at least need some navigation & voice command software to work on the Touch Pro 2 as it just can not be operated safely whilst moving otherwise, and there is no point in having it in the first place if i can't get these two software types to work, which is a big problem for me.
Does anyone know what software does work, although i think it is the HTC TouchFlo Skin that is the problem with other programs i have tried this weekend, as it does not allow third part software to be displayed on the home screen easily, even google apps toolbar has probs, does this sound feasible?
Can anyone help me out with this or did i buy the wrong phone maybe a Touch Pro would have been better as closer to my TyTN II layout and functions?
Thanks in advance
Alex

TT 7 Does work with Rhodium, as does VC, everything has it's quirks of config. BT has always been a pain in the ass and requires different settings for different HFPs, Car Kits and A2DPs.
If you wan to kill Touch Flow, go into start/settings/personal/today and untick the TF.
There are plenty of threads and posts that will resolve most of your issues mate.
Search the entire forum, not just the Rhodium section and you'll get the answers you need.
Cheers,
Beasty
From your list of programs I can only confirm that Tomtom 7 DOES work, and it works very well. I'm using 7.915.9196 VGA
I haven't installed much software yet as Ive been a bit busy, but everything I've put on has worked pefectly. Admittedly I only installed stuff that worked on my Diamond which was also wm6.1

first of all sorry to hear you're having so much issues with the software you need to run on the phone. i have a kaiser/tytn 2 and software from that i have working on tp2. tomtom6 from tytn 2 does not work but tomtom7 defo does. MSVC does work as well but you need to get version compatible with tp2. look in the HTC BLACKSTONE forum as most of the apps from this device work with tp2. please remember that tp2 is WVGA res so that alone may effect the compatibility of some programs. the Blackstone forum is littered with programs that you may need that will work on tp2 and even better! can't really comment on your work software as dont know what it is! good luck with searching!
oh and i know it may be silly but make sure your phone is visible for BT purposes an use phone to pair with your landrover. mine works well with my parrot system with no issues!

agreed that WVGA is your biggest problem. install "second today" to solve your problem with things not on the screen because of touch flo.
Hi Beasty
Thanks for tips, now i know what its codename is, it made it easier to find stuff on this excellent site after i saw your and other replies and have since loaded MS VC 1.6 UK Edition which seems to work ok although not tried it yet with my new HTC BT Headset.
In reply to the others thanks for the great info so far, i have tried loading TomTom 7 once again from the MicroSD card and it wont even load, its just says "this version of TomTom 7 is not compatible with this device" when i click "OK" it just terminates. I dont know what version it is till it loads?
A friend of mine this evening says that the closest phone on the TT7 compatability list seems to be the HTC Touch HD, and that CoPilot 7 actually lists Touch Pro2 as a compatible device, so i will have to try that i think and see if it actually does work, and will let you and the forum know
In terms of the work applications, i know they are based on the MS .NET Micro framework and so should work out of the box, but no they dont, but i think it is a screen resolution issue more than anything else.
The other app i need to run ideally is "Nimbuzz" Multi IM app, again for work.
On both of these work related apps i get an intermittent error message, saying "An error has occurred with xxxx appplication, send error report yes or no" when i choose Yes, it loops same message, when i clicked No it loops once then closes.
I removed the "Nimbuzz" application and soft reset, but still get the error message for it which is weird. So if anyone knows of a Multi IM (Inc Skype) which will run on Touch Pro 2 i look forward to knowing about it.
Work funded 50% of my Touch Pro2 purchase so need to get this all working as best i can
Thanks again for the tips, hints, instructions
Alex

Do you know if anyone has been able to get MSVC to work with the TP2 with a bluetooth headset?
I have tried both the US and European versions of MSVC 1.6 with my TP2. It only seems to work with the built-in speaker.

No problem sir,
We are all here to help each other, TF3D is a highly usefull interface, just takes a bit of getting used to, 2nd today and TF3D is a great combination especially when you configure one of the softkeys to switch between both.
Multi IM you could try BeeJive, not a lot of experience with this (seem to remember Elite team including it in their Roms) but there are plenty available on the net.

Hi All
Got MSVC working on TP2 but not with a BT headset so have just bought the Parrot Minikit Slim with voice dialling, although the voice dialling only works if you can sync the TP 2 with it just like my landrover, but it does not tell you this on the outside of the box.
Guess what? The TP2 is not listed on the Parrot Minikit compatibility list so may have spent/wasted another £70 today as cant sync the TP2 contacts with the Parrot system which is the same prob i was having with my landrover

Hey Alex...
I am sorry to hear that you are having so many problems and I have a fix-all solution for you.... I have a posting up in the marketplace, where I am looking to Trade a HTC Titan (Sprint Mogul) and 2 HTC Kaisers (AT&T Tilt's) for 1 GSM Touch Pro 2.... & I can confirm that TomTom 7 works on all 3 (I have the GPS unlocked on the Mogul).... Just think... 3 phones for your 1... What a great deal
Can someone post the link to the UK version of MSVC? I can't see it at the MS site.
I installed MSVC on my TP2 which led to a hard reset, so I want to be sure that I'm using the right version.
Thanks

I've exactly this same problem. Does anybody know how to get around this and get it installed?
Wouldn't you know it. 24 hours of bashing my head against the desk trying to get this to work....I add a message to this board and 10 minutes later it works. Just used 7.915.9196 VGA as pointed out by stunno and remembered to look in program files after it was installed instead of repeatedly clicking on the original installer on the memory card.

So strange.
I'm using the parrot CK3100, and that's working fine, out of the box.
Just let the TP2 find the Parrot, 1234 as pin, and the TP2 recognizes it as a Hands-free set.
And it automatically started synchronizing.
My parrot 3200LS will not sync the directory either. It just disconnects the bluetooth device as soon as you tell it to sync. It works as a handfree ok, but its a pain to make calls without the directory.

Hi all
I just got myself sent a Hermes the other day and I was looking around here, my favourite XDA resource, for nifty things I could do with it. One thing that seems to be all the rage is upgrading to WM6. Now, I'm all in favour of upgrading and the amount of information and material here is, well, staggering. Overwhelming even. But, for all I read, I miss one critical thing: why do we upgrade to WM6? What does it give us that WM5 doesn't?
All I see, at the moment, is a swankier interface and a faster operation. But neither of those are big sellers in themselves and don't justify the bricking and incompatibility risks. So, what's the big appeal that I've missed? I guess I'm looking for an excuse to do this
Lastly, as I mentioned, there's almost too much information about all this. i can follow the guides and tools for installation but one thing will vex me if I was to upgrade - and that's which ROM to use. Now I'm certain every one of you has a favourite and so I'm not looking for a definitive recommendation, but what the hot ones that I should look into at the moment? As I see it, the "XDA Live" and "Black" see pretty popular..
Cheers!
Three reasons for me.
1. TomTom doesn't occassionally freeze
2. Easier to set as a modem
3. More responsive menus, button presses, etc
By the way WM6 is more like WM5 second edition rather than a brand new system.

Pretty much says it all. I never soft reset anymore. More memory, faster than WM5, better tweaks, and has some things WM5 didn't cooked in to the ROM. As for the risk of bricking, that's an extremely low risk, very minimal actually, if you follow the guide and wiki.
and html email is not to be sneezed at.
Because we can!
Mobile Office 2k7 can read o2k7 native formats. You will never see this on WM5 unless some imgfs God with a lot of time on his/her hands ports it there....
Native SD card encryption is Huge. The A2DP stack is a thing of wonder too....

exactly!!!!!!!!
My softbank x01ht came with WM5 and the only upgrade I did was the radio upgrade to 1.40.
May be it is my luck, but my x01ht seems really stable in its original ROM version (WM5 aku 2), I have never hard reset and the machine seems really stable. So my need to upgrade to WM6 to avoid system hang is not really existing.
Also, I use a lot of BUILT-IN functions such as Push Email, Wifi and Chinese support (my x01ht was flashed with a Hong Kong version 838 pro ROM before sold to me). If ANY one of such functions is WORSE in WM6 than in WM5, than WM6 is a no no for me. I can't stand any frequent freeze of the x01ht because I now depend solely on it for my daily phone/PIM use. If I don't have it working 100% normal, then I will lose many important phone calls.
I see WM6 really as an evolution of WM5. In WM6, MS has fixed many bugs that were in WM5, for example:
- Crappy A2DP
- WiFi now supports WPA
- HTML email
- Faster and more stable
- I'm sure MS has updated little things here and there to make WM6 more telco-standards (GSM, etc.) compliant
Well, are you still using Windows 95 on your PC?
My reasons for upgrading have been for (in order of importance) the speed, bug fixes, better memory management, the X button actually closing the app not just minimising it, Office updates, better compatibility and usability in the new Internet Explorer, etc.
When I bought my TyTN I was shocked by how slowly it responded to user input compared to previous Pocket PCs I'd owned.
After the developments that started occurring here a few months ago, there really was no turning back. I upgraded and now the OS is quick and very responsive. WM6 has been a godsend. The phone application also doesn't take 3-4 seconds to load when I press the call button to answer a call like it used to!
WM6 also has a much more polished look to it I think.
hold on, TomTom still freezes on mine with WM6 !
I still love it though (tomtom that is and wm6)
Let me know if this is solved will ya ?
ta
bb
I did it simply because WM5 was a little unstable and I love experimenting / playing with stuff like this.
A side benefit which I didn't know I would get is the LVSW version that I installed allows WPA2 & WPA2-PSK authentication on the Wi-Fi. That meant I could run my Hermes at the same security as my network and didn't have to modify my wireless router and other PCs.
There's probably still a few other good reasons that haven't been mentioned in this thread yet.
Cheers, Oggy.
Bug fixing, more speed,...
With WM5 I had issues like the phone applicatoin reacted too slowy on an incomming call. so i missed the call. Or sometimes it even didn't ring.
WM6 works in that point.

Did you install TomTom 6.03??? As of that version I never had freezes anymore...
I to have tomtom lockup and sloooooowwwww to get map directions. Please I miss my fast tomtom 6. I am using 6.03. I wonder if i did something wrong. I never had this problem with wm5.
What about support?
One benefit of wm6 is that the hackers, tweakers, rom cookers, and random slackers such as myself keep this hermes wm6 forum active (albeit sometimes unforgiving to newcomers). If you have a question about wm6 on a hermes, it is probably already answered here. Can as much be said for the wm5 forums?
Just works
Personally I was about to ditch my TyTN. The default OS was infuriatingly slow, buggy, and had me resetting several times per day. If I hadn't stumbled upon XDA-develoopers and started flashing WM6, I would probably be a Nokia user again... WM6 just works. I've flashed maybe 10 different versions now, also the radio, and it's completely worth it. No big risk of bricking if you do your homework first.

I don't think anyone with half a brain has bricked their phone doing an OS only upgrade (especially if they read the wiki etc etc)... and you answered your own question... who doesnt want a faster device?

I feel the same way as LazPL in that I was about to stop using the phone.
What I hated most about WM5 was a lack of real integration between the phone and contacts funtions, eg.:
. If you chose a call from the recent call list you could not access the contact directly (eg. if you just tried calling someone on their fixed line and wanted to try their mobile, you could not just click on the recent call you just made and select a different type of number, you had to select the name again from the list). In WM6 you can do this
. If you saved an unknown number from your recent call list it would automatically create a new contact, instead of giving you the option to save it in an existing contact (and choosing what type of number it was) or creating a new contact. In WM6 you can.
For me these 2 were just basic everyday usability features that I can find in the cheapest phones, and totally unacceptable to be missing in a €600 device. On the basis of these 2 alone, upgrading to WM6 was worth it.
In addition, my original Orange ROM had some bugs that were just pathetic (although these could have been cured with a newer ROM, or perhaps were due to the original radio ROM - which I also upgraded - and not the OS):
. Calls to busy numbers started blaring the busy tone through the loudspeaker (very loud)
. Trying to answer a call waiting would freeze the phone and require a soft reset
Hope that helps.
Pastings WIFI keys!!!
I've not been able to paste a wifi key in my WM05 ROM somone told me it was security...
rubish i think M$ to implement the copy/paste code.
Modem -> Bluetooth PAN is HUGELY more stable, my connection used to drop all the time in modem mode, i can now sit for 2 hours on my laptop at coffee shops and surf the web, whithout paying silly 1 day WIFI pass prices!
I was over the moon when I heard I could load WM6 on my TyTN....
my phone is now slower than it was before.......why would this be?
battled to get active sync working again. MS Active Sync 4.5 installed Outlook 2002 but it has not serial number....where do I get this from?
I was hoping they would release GPS software for this phone but it dont like it.... Anyone know if there is GPS software available? I know about the navigate software but that's the same as having a map book or street guide.
What has your experience been after upgrading your TyTN OS to WM6?
What are the new features in WM6? To me it still looks the same in terms of functionality.....
Bless u...
but u know almost every Tytn got slower when upgraded to WM6(it's not real WM Version6 but a Second Edition of WM5). According to a developer of Microsoft in Asia Research Center, WM5SE has a memory limit which only allows 32 process in a row therefore we can see WM5SE(the so called WM6) cannot handle memory well.
That's the reason why Tytn got slower...
can i downgrade to WM5 again?
sure
downgrades are don like upgrades...
Is there any GPS software available for the HTC?
where would I get WM5 from? HTC site or google?

Not sure why your upgrade seems slower, but my upgrade from the official WM6 upgrade from the HTC site went smooth as butter and everything seems faster for me. I've also noticed that it boots up a bit faster and I don't get errors from Xpress mail upon boot ups. The only thing I did notice was that it used up a bit more memory than WM5. My bluetooth head piece connects faster/better, I don't have to soft reset nearly as often as I did with Wm5 either. The messaging program has a few new features that I like too. I actually like my Tytn now. Unfortunately, Youtube still doesn't work out of the box and requires the flash bundle upgrade and that other video player TMCMP or what ever its called.
I use SPB Mobile Shell and SPB Pocket Plus and they work flawlessly with WM6. Overall, this was the best thing to happen since I got this phone in August.

Hi,
Clearly either I have done something wrong, or there is something wrong with the phone. Is there a particular order in which this upgrade should be done?
My PDA is slow opening applications and I am battling with Active Sync 4.5
It displays an error each time and I dont know what it means. I have tried to google the error but cannot pick up anything.
I want to downgrade to WM5. Where can I download it from? I only find the SDK version of WM5. Any ideas where I can get WM5 from. I dont see it on HTC website either
Any help will do.
Thanks
I'd begin by reading Mr. Vanx's downgrade guide
You can use some registry tweaks/settings to improve responsiveness of your device if your flash goes ok. Official release ROMs are slower than cooked ROMs - so your choice also matters. For me the performance of WM6 has always been superior in comparison to WM5.
Hi, I see some threads that suggest TomTom 7 can be installed on a Touch Pro 2. I bought TomTom 7 on micro SD and it won't run. I get a message "Your device is not compatible with this version of TomTom NAVIGATOR!" Is there something simple that I am missing that is causing this. TomTom support were no help.
Offtopic: Why not ask your question in one of the threads you have found
Ontopic: Officially the TP2 is not supported at this moment. It will work, just ask Google
Hi PGLion.
I started a new thread because none of the other threads were actually about TomTom7 on the TP2, they just gave me hope!
On the ask Google suggestion, I may be a bit slow, but I have not found anything that helps me. If you have a link that you think will help, I'd be very grateful if you could post it.

yes,
try >"7.910" "(9196)"< as search terms in google.
before installing that version you should also chek the reports of other users stating that after installation bluetooth stopped working.
You want "ttn7.915.9196.vga_black.cab"
Works fine.
In fact a quick google takes us to this very site:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=482075
Bluetooth still working fine for me.
Yes, TomTom7 DOES work on TouchPro2. I use it almost daily. It's very nice.
But it DOES cripple bluetooth (at least the build that I'm using). It replaces a couple of bluetooth drivers in your Windows directory that are incompatable (or so it appears).
If anyone's having issues with this, PM me. I'll find the thread (I think it was at PPCGeeks) that has instructions re: fixing it.

To save looking - you will need to rename or delete the following dll files in the \windows directory:
\windows\BtSdkCE30.dll
\windows\BtCorelf.dll
Tomtom 7 on TP2

Hi, I see some threads that suggest TomTom 7 can be installed on a Touch Pro 2. I bought TomTom 7 on micro SD and it won't run. I get a message "Your device is not compatible with this version of TomTom NAVIGATOR!" Is there something simple that I am missing that is causing this. TomTom support were no help.

i too can confirm that TT7 works on TP2, might be best you use a software called cabinstl to install the cab file to your required location
The biggest problem I'm having is some serious GPS lag on my Verizon Touch Pro2 running TomTom (I've tried v6 and v7).
TOMTOM 7 install issues on Tilt 2
Has anyone had problems with the install going automatically to the device and not having enough memory to run?
Mine works, but I have a few issues. The physical keyboard doesn't work correctly (when I type, I get multiple non-english characters entered, but the on-screen keyboard is fine). The keyboard on my previous Tilt (original) worked fine with TT6. It also appears that there's no GPS: it shows reception of 0 satellites, yet it works fine. Seems way to accurate to be getting position from cell phone triangulation. Also, I'm using the "black VGA" map, but there appears to be an issue with POIs. Gas stations were shown on screen in completely undeveloped areas. Fortunately, I wasn't looking for gas.
TT7 (V7.915) working OK on my stock UK Vodafone (WM6.1) TP2 with no major lag or loss of any other features. Gets a lock fairly quickly (10-30 seconds).
Custom POIs are accurate and as expected.
Satellite reporting is behaving itself.
Hardware keyboard: Worked fine first go, then started printing double/foreign characters (eg: A gave A+A(Umlaut)), then back to OK after I went into soft keyboard settings and re-selected English. Exited TT, came back in and hardware keyboard seems OK still.
The only major issue I have is that TT sometimes crashes while loading ("We're sorry..." Windows error screen) and I have to turn the phone off/on to get TT going again.
Edit:
Hello. I wasn't sure where the best place to post this so I am starting here.
I have a Touch Pro 2 and absolutely love it. I flash the phone every time a new ROM is released from the Chef I like and have been able to overcome most obstacles but I have one that is sticking me.
I bought a TomTom One XL and one of the biggest selling points for me was that it can update traffic using the Blu-Tooth of your phone and do all sorts of nifty stuff including rerouting you around accidents and such. It is a paid service and I am paid up through next year. It worked fine even with my old Motorola Razr and it has worked ONCE with my TP2. The phone pairs with no issues. Then there is a setup to go through where it asks among other things the phone model. The Touch Pro is on there but not the Touch Pro 2. There are also several other HTC phones on the list as well. It will then try to guess the correct settings to communicate with wherever the traffic info comes from.
What really gets me is that I don't see how this is phone dependent. If it is blu tooth and it pairs, what is the hangup? I use T Mobile and there are options of what connection to use like "TMobile 1" 2 3 4 ect. I have tried every possible combination. TomTom support won't help because the phone isn't on the list. Tmobile Tier 3 are actually pretty knowledgable but haven't been able to help so far. Any suggestions? I am happy to provide screenshots or any other info for anyone that might be able to help. Thanks!
Hi
I dont know cause I dont use this but...
Did you try to use a different phone selection in setup rather than the TP because I think the TP2 has a different bluetooth stack so its quite different from the TP.
I use a software called Salling Clicker and to make it work I have to use a generic WM5 (Broadcom) selection in the setup.
Try to find a Phone (with the right resolution? probably not an issue for this software.) that uses the broadcom bluetooth stack. And see how that goes.
Good luck.
Hi everybody,
I searched the forum and couldn't readily find anything related to this problem.
I loaded EnergyROM_21885_RHODIUM_17.Dec.2009_Titanium.rar today on my new ATT Tilt 2. And then I loaded TomTom Navigator 6.x for the first time on the Tilt2 immediately after the ROM upgrade, so I have very little loaded on the Tilt2 except what came with the EnergyROM package.
I saw the exact same issue posted in an Xperia X1 forum: "The screen doesn't display properly. In portrait the TomTom screen only shows in the top half of the screen, and there are 3 screens showing up next to other, kind of overlaying each one like a deck of cards. In landscape they space out slightly better and the programme is useable, but still it looks terrible, and using the phone as a sat nav in landscape isnt exactly practical. Basically the tomtom display is coming in at like quarter size. Has anyone seen this or know of a fix or settings that can be played around with for it?" IN response, someone theorized: "I think because TT6 is made for devices 320 x 320 and 320 x 240. X1 has a wvga 800 x 480."
Anybody encountered this problem and have a fix? I hope there is an easy tweak for this. I've uninstalled/ reinstalled and soft reset to no avail.
I have a legal copy of TomTom and it's worked fine on 3 previous HTC Windows Mobile devices including my previous Fuze. TomTom tech support won't help because the TP2/Tilt2 is not on their approved list (nothing manufactured in the past 2-3 years is on the list.) I've seen talk of TomTom Navigator 7, but that must not be sold in North America and TomTom is phasing out any support whatsoever for TTN6 I'm told.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Dave
I got the following from TomTom Customer Support:
The Navigator 7 software has only been released in the European market. There are currently no plans to release this software in North America therefore,we are unable to offer support for Navigator 7 customers. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
For further assistance you are more than welcome to contact UK support. For contact information please click the link below:

(I bought a copy through a UK website.)
yep all your previous HTC phones were supported screen wise. They do actually have an offical tomtom 7 out that supports our phone and you can use that however I dont think it will work with your maps. It only works with the newest maps availabe....
You'll have to upgrade if you want to use tomtom on your phone.
That said.. I'll throw you over some more information but it's not anything you cant find by searching google so I wont clog up the forums with it.

HELP !!!
i went to tomtom.com tp2 is nit supported so what do i do now i just dont want to get lost !! gees ? pm is Ok
I feel your pain...I have the same issue with my Tilt 2 with no solution @ this time. No other choice @ this time but to use AT&T Navigator.
Guys (or girls)... a simple search of "tomtom" in the Rhodium "themes, applications and software" subforum will give bring you this thread right at the TOP of the list.
New Tomtom 916.9189 Specifically for TP2 Released
That said... I believe this version only works with some of the newer maps... not the old tomtom 6 versions. Odds are if you are using those your maps are WAY out of date as it is.
I will add that it works perfectly with version 7 or 8 maps. I have been using it since I got my Tilt2 and love it. You will have to update the maps and then reactivate them.
The screen get off during TT navigation
Hello all
I am quite upset as I did not find any solution for weeks. TT7 works fine. Just one very disturbing stuff come up when call ending. Within one minutes the screen get of. All you know that during navigation incoming call interupt navigation screen while you accept the call. Then screen switch back to navigation mode. After hang up, the screen get black in one minute.
Any suggestion please???
Thanks in advance
TomTom Navigator fix for AT&T Tilt 2
I had the same problem as all of you have described with TomTom Navigator 6 not working on my new AT&T Tilt 2. The problem with TomTom Navigator 6 is that it will not support the higher resolution on the newer large screens. I got it to work on my Tilt 2 by installing WVGAFIX4. You can search for it on here on XDA. This app reduces the screen resolution so you can use TomTom Navigator. Make sure you have run this and selected one of the smaller resolutions before you install Navigator 6 on your phone. Sometimes on my Tilt 2 I have to do a soft reset to get it back to the original resolution. TomTom has abondoned us in the US and so far this is the only fix I have found to use Nav 6 on my new phone. Funny they came out with an IPhone app but left out all the windows mobile users.

Now if you mean so that your super old maps still work.. Yes you'd be stuck with the old tomtom... OR you can just get the newer tomtom and buy the updated maps (as I'm sure roads have changed since the tomtom 6 maps were released years and years ago) or heaven forbid do a search on google and find out where else you can get maps.
