Vibrate on touch/release? - Touch CDMA Windows Mobile ROM Development

There is a vibrate on touch/release feature in NFSFAN’s ROM’s that is normally turned on by default. The first time I flashed one of these ROM’s this feature really took me by surprise. I seriously through “oh boy, I screwed this up”.
My question is what is this feature for? I turned it off as soon as I figured out how to turn it off. Do people like this feature? Or was I too hasty in turning it off and am I missing out on how it could be useful?
What about battery life? Wouldn’t it drain the battery very quickly? Also, it seems to me that the vibrate feature is the only “moving part” on this phone. Couldn’t using it in this way wear out the bearings and/or motor?

it is supposed to mimick the haptic feedback found on many touch screen devices. the battery does not drain too fast as to be very noticable.

My first impression was about the same as yours, I also turned if off right away. However after flashing a few more times and getting lazy and not turning it off I've come to like it. Especially when typing, it feels more like typing on a normal cell keyboard. I wish there was an app or a keyboard that did vibrate on touch. As far as battery drain I haven't noticed any issues... prior the most recent NFSFAN ROM my battery life sucked, since v9 it's much better, I actually was able to go 36 hours without charging my phone... before after 12 it would be down to 30 some %. As for wearing it out I don't see that as an issue, I've never taken apart my touch enough to see what makes it vibrate, but common sense would tell me it's a small motor with a counter weight, I'm sure it will last much longer than other parts of the vogue like the screen....
Obviously this is just my opinion of the vibrate feature, but it wouldn't hurt to give it a try for a couple of days.

I'd advise trying it out for a few days or so, I find now that without it I miss it. It really does help in replacing the tactile feeling of a physical keyboard and knowing that the key was in fact pressed. You can adjust the feel too, personally I tend to like the 25/15 setting.

i turn off the vibrate on release. to me when you use yiur key board there is no point on having it vibrate twice for every key stroke.. but you do get used to it and its hard to go without it.. SPB keyboard has this option in it and it would cause some longer vibrations..

Battery Drain*Somthing new*

Iv recently noticed while i was using my raph100 with android on it everytime i press one of the hard keys on the front of the phone excluding the top button, the qwerty keyboard would light up while the phone is closed. and i would have to not touch the phone for 10-20 seconds and wait for it to turn off or slide nd close the phone to turn the lights off. not sure if this is a known issue or not but it really does kill the battery and may be the cause for peoples phones getting warm?

Oh yeah! It does the same on mine too... I don't know if it's been noticed before. It only requires a light touch for the capacitive buttons to set the keyboard LEDs off.
interesting, i don't get the same results on my raph800. i can play with the capacitive buttons all day without the kb light coming on.

as far as i can tell. open or closed.
actually i don't get lights coming on on the kb until i actually hit a key on the kb.
must be a raph100 thing then? well it surely has a massive impact on the battery so i hope one of the developers notice this issue and try fix it.
Same here! Raphael100 and keyboardlight is always on when using the phone (even if slider is closed).
A fix would be very much appreciated!

Honestly the keyboard being lit is probably the LEAST concern for draining the battery. Things like processes not letting the system sleep, and overall poor/mishandled power management within the OS are going to cause A LOT more drain than a light on in the keyboard...
Hey, my new phone boots Android but they keyboard light doesn't work at all. Definitely doesn't have much to do with battery life.
well since ur lights dont work how do u know if its affecting ur battery? i sure know it affects mine. cause i get more battery life when i actualy make sure the lights are off
I agree with argh in saying the led for the kb uses very little battery. The raph100 is getting better battery currently with the kb light on than our raph800 with the light off.
Once power management and the system is working better you'll see better battery life, if it ever happens.

Everything counts for better battery life. I'll let phh know about this and hopefully something can be done
i have noticed that my htc touch pro is perfect on xandroid until i make or recieve a call this is what seems to kill my battery one minut its full then the phone rings i answer and about a minute into the call i get dead battery

[Q] Phone into pocket = standby?

A friend of mine has a Motorola Razr which automatically switches to standby (screen off) when it's put into his pocket.
Does anyone know if there's a way for us HOX users to accomplish this?

Man, I feel like an advertisement recently, but I feel like this would be something not too hard to accomplish with Tasker. If light levels drop to near nothing and the proximity sensor detects a very short distance, like the phone is in your pocket, it turns the screen off. I'd also put in an if for disabling this function when you're on a call, just because it already does it and I don't know if it'd interfere. You could test it though.
Battery use might be a concern if it polls the sensors too much. Would have to look into it.
Edit: I set up a simple test for this on my Infuse, and I got it to work, but it doesn't work instantaneously. The sensors are only polled every x number of seconds, but I don't know what that number is exactly. I suspect it shouldn't take more battery than it would if you had auto brightness on, and with auto brightness on, it's probably already updating the value, if it isn't always anyway (I want to say it does regardless), so I guess battery shouldn't be a concern. I guess it turning off with a couple of seconds of delay is still better than it staying on for 30+ seconds.

Samsung Dock - Screen Turning on when fully charged

I know this is an issue with the S2 but it seems to follow to the S3. I have the phone next to my bed so with the bigger & brighter screen, it lights up the entire room and wakes me up. I dont want to place a cover over the screen like what I did with my S2 so any other suggestion?

Isn't this more to do with the notification that the battery is now fully charged? When the notification appears, it will turn the screen on. Does the same happen when you get a late night text or something?
Unfortunately, I can't find anything that will turn off notifications. You could try "Profile Scheduler" by Wetpalm. While this function isn't currently available in the current version, a quick e-mail to the developer may get him to add this as an option. It would be nice to say when docked, and its after 11pm, don't turn the screen on. I'm not sure if this is feasible, but give it a go.
HTH.
whats if you set the brightness to lowest? do you still wake up then?
Can't you just turn off notification from toggle? Or don't use the dock at night and charge with cable turn phone face down...

Sounds like a fairly easy job for tasker.

totally agree on this one
I advise you to place your phone a little far away from you, especially when charging, because this causes much more rediation, does harm to you. And even if it turns on when fully charged, it won't affect you much.

Couldn't agree more. I would also recommend wearing a tin foil hat to bed (you can buy these or make them yourself) to further limit the severe impact that the aforementioned 'rediation' has on your soft, vulnerable brain tissue.
This made me laugh "rediation" why not build a faraday cage too then ?
I know it is annoying when your room is pitch black and you recieve a text or what ever then the screen lights up the room lol life is not easy...

When battery gets to 100% charged, it will power on and goes to the home screen. it's not a txt/email notification, it's a full battery notification. I now charge my phone to complete before going to bed which seems to help with the 2AM wakeup.
Unfortunately, need to keep phone close by since I work in incident management. I get those late night calls when things happen and you all should be happy that there are people like me around It could save your life or a love one's life.
I'll try tasker later this week to see if I can get it to work otherwise I'll try your recommendation. Thanks!

Overheating when used as navigation?

I have a T-Mobile M8, but didnt get much response, so I'm posting here in hopes of more answers. I realize this is a worse case scenario, but i used my phone as navigation for the first time today and after maybe 20 minutes of having it on my dash, charging, listeing to bluetooth music while navigating it quit charging and the red notification light started blinking. I had power saver on with the screen at its lowest Automatic Brightness set. I know this is a stress test for it, but lots of other phones I've had didnt have a problem like this. I dont use it as navigation too often, but it cant not charge if i do use it that way.
Anyone elses do this too?

Ha,...no,..it was on top of the dash, and here in S. Florida it was pretty hot (90F). But, with that said, I had the windows up, AC on. My previous phones (I'm a phone-a-holic), the S4, G2, Xperia ZL, and Note 3 all worked fine in the same situation. If its a common occurrence for this particular phone in general I'll deal with it. But if its unique to mine I will exchange it. But I'd rather not have to restore another phone if the new one will act the same way.
Maybe I should mention the phone has a clear hard case on it, too.
Hot day, phone in direct sunlight, phone in case, Bluetooth, screen, data, CPU probably running at max, it's all going to contribute. Obviously the phone couldn't keep up with the power requirements. Do you use an official HTC car charger?
I have no problems with charging using Navigation with Co-pilot, it does get warm, but so has any other phone when using Nav apps. I wouldn't use Google navigation as that doesn't have offline maps and will tax the phone even more.
Thanks for responding,...I had it in power saver mode and auto brightness at its lowest setting. I'm not even sure there is an official HTC car charger,...is there? Maybe it's a by product of being a metal case, but my past phones, the G2 the note 3 and Sony xperia zl never had this problem. If this replacement (I was able to swap for a new one at TMo yesterday)phone does it too then I'll deal with, I just didn't know if it's the phone as a whole, or my particular unit.

Questions for Curent Moto Owners

Hey guys, just have a few questions for mto owners that I haven't seen answered anywhere. I am interested in picking one of these devices up but I have a couple reservations.
My main question is how does the display look in dark areas, like at a bar or while driving at night. I really don't want a bright cell phone screen strapped to my wrist, like how the samsung watches look. Is this one properly dim (especially without having to mess with settings) for night time settings so it just appears like a normal watch, or does it look too bright.
The other thing I was wondering was what are the major drawbacks, I have heard it can be annoying to drive with cause the screen goes blank and comes back one when making turns cause it thinks your flipping your wrist.
Is there a setting to keep the watchface on 24/7 as well, not crazy about having a blank screen strapped to my wrist?
Any help would be appreciated.

I am also looking into getting one, The one question I can help you with from my research is that you can have the screen always on but it will drain your battery faster and generally iv'e been hearing that it barely lasts a full day

Works well - screen lights up, but dimmed (if you have auto-brightness on). Low enough to still see, but not bright enough to brighten a room

Battery - Most days I'll get 15-18 hours, but then for no reason, I'll get terrible battery life the next day.
Screen does tend to come on when driving - never really notice it during the day, but at night you can definitely tell. I just changed my driving style (lower left hand and use right to turn wheel instead) and it rarely comes on. Not much of an issue when it does though.

Yes, you can keep ambiance on, but it does drain the battery fast. I had it on but then realized I'm not looking at the watch 24/7. When I do flick my wrist, 99% of the time it lights up really quickly.

agreed with Hustlaz 100%.
also, just want to add that before you get it, first determine why you want it. if you want it to keep track of your steps/heart rate as well as get notifications sent to your wrist, then this is ideal. if you are looking for a nice time-piece that lasts all day, then a conventional watch is a better route.
i've had mine for a little over 2 weeks, and battery life has been great - even with ambient on (although, the screen still goes blank with this setting, just not as quickly, so I have turned this feature off). most reviews you might have read about battery life we're probably before the 11/9 software update. i got mine just after this update, so I can't make a fair comparison here.
otherwise, the watch works as advertised - just beware that when using the google fit app on your phone, your phone's battery will take a major hit (but you can disable the activity detection). otherwise, no noticeable hit on my phone's (moto x) battery life.
essentially, the way it works is that the watch acts like a mirror for your phone - you can also mute certain apps notifications from appearing on your watch.
my only concerns is that the steps data does not sync from my watch to my phone properly (hoping that the google fit app will be updated to accept this with activity detection disabled or at least fix the battery drain), and that when viewing those google now cards (such as weather, sports scores, traffic, etc) on my phone and I swipe them away, they also disappear from my phone - would like to keep them on my phone. I'm sure there is a setting to adjust this, just have not had the time to see for myself.
the good news is that you can buy one at Best Buy, try it out for a week, and if you don't like, you can return it. problem is that you may actually like it too much whereby you won't want to return it and you find yourself keeping your watch on all the time.
