Hey,
Every WM 6.1 ROM I installed is really slow in reaction and menu.
K's rom for WM 6.0 is so much faster.
I want to use WM 6.1 but its just so slow.
Is that everyones experience ?
What am I doing wrong?
Why don't you post your issues/problems on the specific WM6.1 rom thread you have tried. Maybe you can get advice on how to resolve your problem/issues.
I've tried all WM6.1 roms out there, and i would say they're all faster than the WM6 roms i've used before.
I would agree with greatbal, used a number of WM6.1 ROMs and they're all quicker than WM6
I tried a couple WM6.1 roms and ended up going back to K's roms.
I tried CKC's and Pays WM 6.1 and they are very slow compared to K's so I just gave up and going to stick with WM 6.
WM 6.1 doesn't have anything special to it anyways...
I've used all of K's ROMs and currently using CRC's 6.1 ROM. My impression is that the 6.1 is a little faster than K's. However, I can't say that feature-wise, one is better than the other. I could easily go back to K's ROM without loosing functionalilty.
My ROM selection is based on what is included (or not included) in the total package, which is cook specific.
6.1 vs 6.0
My own experience, based on the few 6.1 roms I've tried, is similar to exxi and esmith. I haven't seen the boost in either performance or functionality that others comment on.
My two cents.

Slow?I don`t agree.I`ve tried a few WM 6.1 and they were all pretty faster than the fastest WM 6.0.Only problem is they are not yet very stable.Hardreset and a few other issues. So maybe you should stick with WM6.0 for now.
Hi I just changed ROM from Original HTC 6.0 to 6.1 and I have to say it really seems to be slower... Whats the problem?
The problem's probably just that we're all working with very ealy versions of 6.1. When the chefs with the most in-depth knowledge of how to combine the given files with the most suitable and useful drivers and other bits and pieces I've no doubt most of us will find 6.1 better.
I've played with some 6.1s but for now 6.0 is generally more stable.
Until then, I still use mattk_r's compilation of 6.0 with 3.60 ROM.
I do think that "speed" depends more of free memory than OS. I've tried a lot of WM 6.1 and some are very fast, as the one I'm playing with now .
hi guys, i also agree with greatbal. I am on wm6.1, it is faster than wm6.
Especially on Core Player movie playback. stable and smooth.
For boot up speed, actually we can disable startup animation of HTC logo or something with schaps advance config, it will save about 5-8 seconds.
People on WM 6.1 that are finding it faster are you using anything (hacks, reg edits, etc...) for speed boosts of any kind?
One person said they found CRC's WM 6.1 faster than K's but I found it slower than K's...

I've used CRC's and Schaps Beta...I'm now using Pays 3.05 Lite...and it is VERY Fast and VERY stable...no speed hacks...no registry tweaks outside that are found in HTCustom.

I use 1.54.30.10 radio. Circa a week I use faria and my battery is better than was on Schaps. (cca two days, but I everyday listen music with bth a2dp and browsing net with wifi). With pays I had to charge battery everyday, now I have to every two days at night).
6.1 is good if you like your ROMs lite. The more 3rd party apps, the slower, and buggier things get.
Most 3rd party apps weren't made to work perfectly with an unrealesed ver. of WM.
Fast for synching

I use CRC's ROM, very stable, very fast, especially for synching with ActiveSync!
I tried a few ROMs now and in my experience the WM6.1s I tried are all quicker in response than the WM6 versions. However, it does depend *alot* on the apps you load into them. Some apps have problems with WM6.1 and also the free resources of your Hermes do matter.
Try a light ROM and install nothing for starters, then step by step move your preferred apps in. You will notice the difference.
My two cents..
Just a quick poll for my own curiosity if nothing else, which WM 6.1 ROM are you using?
If not one of the above, please add a post explaining which.
Also, are there are any newer benchmarks available than those shown here?
You forgot "Binky11's ROM". Best I have used so far.
We seem to be getting a few 'others', but no indication which they are?
I'm currently using Faria's/Dr. Puttingham's ROM but it seems a little unstable, as the OS freezes on me forcing me to pull the battery to reset. I installed it yesterday, with 2 freezes already. I think I'm going to try another one. I use an 8525 btw.
-PB
PDACorner's ROM's have been the cleanest and most stable for me. He is always using the latest builds. I am currently using V.14. build 20226.
Personally I stay away from super storage ROMS. I don't have a need for them, and maybe by sheer coincidence I've only had 1 hard-reset for all the ROMs I've tried, whereas it seems like other folks were having them more often.
I've been a fan of the pdaviet ROMs, but lately have been happy with CRCs... not sure if you need to break out his dev ROMs from stable, since one is just a progression to another.
Stable, with good available program memory.
I used schaps 4 for ages, but I find myself more and more taking a simple "no options" rom (like the PDACorner rom) and adding the dialer, interface, and applications that I really want, instead of using some rom someone else builds.
So I guess you could say I use PDACorner with LOTS of mods.
CRC's 11.2 and 12.2 is the same
Basically re numbered. I too have issues with BS ROMs, my device seems not to agree with it! I would love to try again in the near future, but I use my device for business and can not afford hard resets at all. I go with CRC's ROM for weeks with the only need to power off and on again with side button every other week.
I don't know why but I can't seem to find others that would not hard reset on me, yet.
I have been using Alex's v5.att.161.home ROM for months now, and I love it.

i think the "others" are older WM 6.0 ROMs. im still using sleuth 3.1 from 7/5/07! =P. it's a PITA to backup data then upgrade, then resync data.
but i'm looking forward to upgrading soon, i think wm6.1 improves performance+stability yes?

Its always updated with the latest build. Its clean and stable. Suits my taste.
for what it's worth see my signature...
I have tried at some point just about every 6.1 rom I can find on this forum.
The PDAcorner v16 seemed good, and VERY fast, but I didnt like the UI or the idea of how long it would take me to get it how I like it.
I LOVE CRC's roms, they are clean, stable, and fast. Using 12.2 atm! with a 8meg page pool, dam fast!
For those who speak of the "latest build" ala PDA Viet and PDA corner...is there actually a noticeable difference when u flash to a later build ROM? I love flashing a new ROM but it takes me such a long time to get it tweaked to how i like it, so i don't do it so much and then when you consider that you can try the same ROM with so many Pagepool settings, sigh....i could be spending HOURS testing ROMS and just don't have the time to play with them all and at diff settings. That is why I am VERY glad for a thread like this, cause it seems to be frowned upon to compare the ROMS on this site (or mainly to ask the oppinion for a ROM)...i don't exactly understand that, why not discuss and compare them?
what i am wondering, are the latest builds considered to always be the best? i feel like there are so many factors (including unknown ones) that attribute to a ROM being a good working ROM.
for those who have tried lots of the PDAVIET ROMS, any thoughts on which is/are the best?
I can't pick one of the ROMS on the list, but i will say this, i've been on WM6.1 for a while and am considering trying 6.0 again to get a new frame of reference to tell if one is indeed better than the other for me
Shamanix`s WM6 Ultimate v2 FINAL [SuperStorage] With add on's
I'm using CRC12.3 at the moment, but I'm not all that rapt in it.
PDV has had some good ones. Does a nice clean install and removes rubbish that other ROMs leave behind. Got rid of a bug that had plagued me for months.
PDACorner has had some good ones.
Randomize had the best package that needed the least customising by me.
I guess I'm just a ROM junkie.
Been thinking of upgrading to a Samsung i900, but then I'd miss all this fun.

You can use UC/sdconfig.txt to re-install all your favourite programs that run from internal RAM. Most of the stuff I want to add back in runs off my SD card. I just keep the cabs in a separate folder on my SD card and work through them. Only takes a few minutes.
Biggest hassle I had was with contacts and email settings.
But PIMBackup restores contacts in a flash, and Settings Savior restores all my email accounts (about 4 or 5).
Now I can re-flash and be back in operation in under 30 minutes.
So, had my Hermes for several years now and tried many ROMs and UIs in that time.
Now we seem to have a two main choices for UI: Manila or Titanium.
I've found both of these UI's take up a lot of resources and they're buggy, especially the new fancy versions of Titanium and I'm having to soft-reset frequently which I find frustrating.
In order to get a cast iron, fast phone, I'm even considering flashing a modern ultralite ROM and putting HTC Home 2 on there.
Any other suggestions either as to:
1. A UI thats easy to install and doesn't take up masses of RAM
2. A ROM with a modern, none buggy version of Titanium/Manila which still have about 25M RAM?
i was using hermes for several months, bricked it and after several months i unbricked it. it is very usefull phone for me. but youre right. if i have to reset every here and there, its not a point.
recently i tested roms from lets say first 10 posts in this forum. tonight im going to install darkvisions 5.15 and add a few things that i miss. titanium launcher, i.e.
i hope that will satisfy me until i learn how to cook or untill somebody makes something better
No matter what the starter RAM is, open up the menu's and phone canvas and you're probably down by nearly 4M already.
Outlook and contacts seem pretty good, only about 1M for both.
Then Nimbuzz is a whopping 6M which is still better than running messenger and skype together.
Add on IE and its another 1.3 (not sure what opera is as my skills can't switch to mem usage without killing Opera )
So, for the basics its about 12-13M from the baseline
I've found TAI's version 14/15 pretty good so far around 23M free (with activesync running). Means, with my essential apps running, I'm around 10-11M free. Means I can still run Google maps, word etc ok.
It would be nice to have beautiful Manila or fancy Titanium (bug free) and about 20-23M free, just not found it yet. Any suggestions?
slowndes - I'm in the same place as you:
I'd got frustrated with my WM5 Hermes (SPV M3100) as Home2Pro and lovely community applets were rendering it slow, unstable and with poor battery life.
I tried several OEM ROMs and with/without custom ROMs on top; and then running Home2Pro. Certainly I get better performance with OEM ROM only.
But I now want PointSuite v2... And I think the "stripped" AT&T OEM ROM - used by many chefs - is still too "heavyweight" for my requirements. I'm still looking for a very light WM6.1 OEM.
And, after hours of hunting through these hallowed pages, I'm still looking.
Any ideas from anyone out there?
Since my last post, I'm downloading a couple of potential WM6.1 bare ROMs:
Black Satin - been around for a while now, but consistently good feedback;
CRC_r13.4_Naked_BigStorage - latest incarnation and offers a lot of space.
I'll road-test these over the coming few days, with Home2Pro and PointSense suite v2 on 'em; and I'll post my findings into this thread.
Oooo - installed CRC WM6.1 as per above; which, in its raw state, is a slick and sexy ROM.
And then I installed Home2Pro on top; plus my usual WiFi modem / Opera Mobile 9.7 / DinarSoft RAM optimisation applications.
(I've left off PointSense v2 Suite until 2.0.1.1 comes out - 2.0.0.4 has a few integrity issues it seems).
But I'm getting the lightning-fast speed and stability I've been looking for.
I am one very happy bunny. I recommend this. A lot.
I used to use whatever 6.1 ROM and install SBP mobile shell. Its pretty bulletproof, but not really that integrated into the phone, just a pretty surface.
I used Josh's SpringTime build pretty much for the entire summer, until I dropped my phone and the RED / GREEN buttons stopped working all the time. VERY WEIRD, but I decided to flash to FCW's new rom.
Its called Red Mist and its Build 23004.5.3.0 (according to the About screen). You can get it here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509194
I also installed PdG TouchFLO 2D dialer. It REALLY helps when you have big fingers. I have mis-dialed since. You can get it here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=429179
I flashed the OEM Stripped rom first. I think it makes a difference.
My phone has not worked this well in a LONG time.
If you looking for WM 6.1 for me the most stable is faria.r32
now im with dark vision 5.0 the plathform is 6.5, but for 2 days i cant tell you nothing special about it just nice look, many apps

I'm in the same position as the first Poster. Now I trying all the Complete-Roms, then the Light ROMs with SPB Mobile Shell, PointUI, Manilla, Homescreen++, Wisbar Adcance, ..., and then hopefully have another ROM for the next Years, as Schaps ROMs was for me in the past.
Trial and Error....
Is there a thread/wiki with a comparative of free RAM from various ROMs? The xda-wiki one is quite outdated. How about all of us post the free RAM after a clean install + customizations + reset?
I'll start off first:
CRC_r13.4-naked / 5.2.20270 / WM6.1 - 26.86 MB

Does anything think they have the fastest Manila 2.5 ROM?
I'm trying to find one, that has fluent animations, quick response/no lag, but does not eat lots of RAM, 65% max.
Is this possible?
I'd prefer WinMo 6.5, but I've read (and personally found out) that WinMo 6.1 uses less RAM.
All the ROM's I've used use around 78-90% ram, which means I can't run any apps!
My Current ROm seems pretty good(Sun Y), but when some parts are a little laggy and stil uses quite a bit of RAM.
Think this will help alot of people if chefs try to work on a ROM like this. I know it's hard because looking for a Manila ROM is looking for a RAM eating ROM too but I'm sure it's possible, with lots of tweaking..
Oh and don't know if you've noticed on your diamonds, how annoying it is when you slide through contacts, sms, email inbox etc, that it's 'cutty' and laggy ,rather than the iphone style where its smooth and good feedback.
trying to find this in the ROM too.

the problem is, the iPhone OS was written FOR the iPhone. Eventuall iPhoneOS7 or whatever will come out and will require hardware far better than the iphone...it will never be ported becuase apple dont like that sort of thing.
Manilla 2.5 was NEVER supposed to run on the diamond...it just hasnt got the hardware to do it properly.
Manilla 2.1 works fine, no problems, fast as you like...this was ALSO never supposed to run on the diamond, but it's been ported successfully becuase the phones is WAS supposed to run on arent far off the diamond hardware wise.
2.5 doesnt
yet
also this may sound stupid but many ppl actually doesnt know how to use slider correctly...
we dont have that iphone glass screens we have resistive screens actually made for stylus. if u want to move it use little bit of nail and u see how smooth it scrolls
I have build a WM6.5 ROM with HTC Sense everything working 100%, Manila is very fast and and ROM is stable. You get 36mb free RAM on startup, you will never run out of RAM again! (with GPS software you may run out of RAM)
I will be releasing my ROM soon... You can follow the progress of the ROM on Twitter. (see my sig)

No. As simple as that.
Manila 2.5 consumes alot - because it can do alot - as soon as scrolling through a couple of pages, and it will increase to at least 75% on WM6.1 no matter how light it is. If you want Manila, just cope with that. If you can't, forget about Manila.
And please stop comparing WM devices with that iphone crap. That's two different worlds. That iphone thing has 10% of the features of a WM device, and it sucks as a cell phone (which it is also supposed to be - not just an mp3 player).

36mb free means 69% on startup. That's quite a few mb more than Kisja's 6.1 ROM with Sense 2.5, so I hope you'll be able to tune that down a bit And I recommend you to free up way more storage. 50mb on main storage is not much!
I'd love to test your ROM when it's out, I hope you'll get it all to come out nice! Keep up the work!

I'm not comparing how good the iphone is - if you ask me you'll find I'm rather against the iPhone and its over rated popularity. The only thing that I apreciate from the iphone is it's 3.5mm jack that so many phones fail to have, as well as smooth scrolling.
Never said the iphone was better than WM.

Two days of reading and no choice for my first CustomROM.
I have the Diamond from more than a year with the last HTC Rom and I like it very much... really fast (lightning) and responsive. The only problem is that I want to try something new, haven't decided yet 2.5 or 2.1 and 6.1 or 6.5 I guess I have to give it a try. Anyway I totally agree with longice's comment about the iPhone bullsh*ts
Benkos is allright...
But like I said It's hard to find one which will give you more RAM and have manila 2.5/wm6.5.
And SUN Y is good too.
I've found SUN Y's to be the one with most response as well as easthetics..
THe most fluent ROM i've used is NRG's, except so much RAM Is used you can't even use the camera and some points

sense 2.5 isn't a perfect port to diamond or diamond dose not have the necesary resrources to driveit right.I haven't seen one rom on the forum that has smooth sense 2.5 and when i say smooth i say like manila 1.X
If you want a fast and stable WinMo6.6 with Sense 2.1, find the DonSalari's Rom.
I've been looking and sometime even cooking some roms for a few years and this ROM was my choice.
WM6.1 is much faster and stable than 6.5. I also always wanted to stick with new 6.5.x builds, but then tried Gen.Y wm6.1. It's way faster and smoother, especially sense. Also ram usage is 10-20 percent lower.
Also, sense 2.1 seems to be way smoother than sense 2.5, especially seen right after soft reset, when it has to fully load tabs yet, so scrolling through tabs in 2.5 is not smooth
I have also tried allmost all of the roms on this site. Now i'm using the Shaks. P v4.30 ROM with wm6.1. It's a clean rom without manila and with all the originall HTC stuff + some additional applications. Now I'm using this Rom with spb ms 3.5.2.
The best wm6.5 i have tried is also the Don Salaris rom but it has some bugs and i have to soft-reset my device quite offten.
br
The problema its not the RAM coz sense 2.5 lags badly on Blackstone with more ram then the diamond so what is the problem? the CPU could be? the port of sense 2.5 is bad?
I have the 2.10 boot loader already installed. Which ROM is the best right now? Eye candy, funcional, and stable..
Need some guidance to point me in the right direction..
THANX
in my opinion dont wast time for 6.5wm mobile rome cause menu looks fine but other things are too slow (media app game) so... apply some 6.1 WM rom..but i`m not sure what you prefer ? performace or visual? if performace apply "Pays Rom"
If you want something stable go for CRC's ROM. It is fast and stable, and you can try out different home screens. I have been using this ROM for the longest time and it has never let me down.

Well now I can see that Hermes works better with wm 6.1 so you shouldn't be surprised
to see that people are actually suggesting you a wm 6.1 rom...Everything works on it, while
with wm 6.5 some of the nice applications doesn't work (like morphgear and pim organizer).
Yes 6.1 is stable and fast but you don't get the finger friendliness of 6.5
I've been flashing 6.5's roms reqularly when cooked by our chef's and in the end i always come back to que ppc's 6.5 b3 "bare bones" edition. Boots up with 28 megs free and a humungous 68 megs of storage.
The rest of the rom's be it manilla or the titanium makes the hermes go unresponsive after a few minutes of internet surfing.
Pim backup works nicely and pocket islam doesn't hang the phone l;ike the rest does.
If you want 6.5 finger friendliness, i truly recommend this rom.
