Having just purchased my 8525 several weeks ago, I have undergone the grueling exercise of reading, downloading, reading, downloading, more reading, more downloading... in my quest for the fastest stable ROM. While I appreciate the all hard work of our ROM cookers, and I recognize that each ROM will meet specific individual needs, I have yet to find a ROM that compares to the speed of K's WM6.0 FINAL Lite.
I was flabbergasted yesterday when I did a comparison. After having read many posts on the speed of the new WM6.1, I decided to give it a whirl and see what I was missing. I looked for a good WM6.1 Lite edition to flash and eventually found one that was reported stable with good reviews. Upon flashing, I noticed that it seemed snappy at first as I tapped through the settings, explorer. I was looking for any delays in response or program load times. I installed Pocket Informant 8 and opened and closed the program several times to visually test the speed (I like to close out of applications and have them reopen with speed when I need them).
I was tempted to leave it on for a while but I decided to flash back to compare and see if I could notice any difference right away... I was shocked with the results. As soon as I flashed back to K's WM6.0 FINAL Lite ROM, I immediately noticed the difference, K's was much faster. Additionally, as soon as I did a hard reset, I noted the program memory sitting at 32.06 (available). I have not officially "benchmarked" these as I don't really know how, but as far as opening applications, moving through settings/programs, and using file explorers, K's takes the cake.
Now I realize that there are many variables to consider (the WM6.1 ROM I used, programs included/ excluded with Lite versions etc.) but as far as lightning fast ROMs, can anyone else support my conclusions? For those of you using K's WM6.0 FINAL Lite ROM please weigh in with your thoughts. If you haven't yet tried it and your looking for speed, please give it a try and let us know what you think. If I am correct, then I can only imagine what a WM6.1 Lite by Kin0Kin could do?
I can only say that what you tested was "out of the box" performance.
I always temper with my OS, removing services & changing reg. definitions.
I feel WM6.1 is faster.
I think the first factor that affects performance is the added apps and as a result how many files sit in the WINDOWS folder(thats why the lite versions work faster...)
The next factor is reg hacks.
I think we should install a version as lite as we can, and as new as you can find then - add your stuff.
I have to agree with the above post. I've been using cooked ROMs since I got my 8525 a year ago...now I'm using Schaps WM 6.1 and to me it is the most stable. I have tried CRC's and Pays but to me, Schaps is the most stable and quickest...I have good battery life and can reasonably use (most of) my programs.
I've had to reflash about ten times trying different programs and different setups but now it's pretty snappy and I'm happy with my set up.
Best I can tell you is try flashing a few different ones and see which one gives you the most mileage.
Hope This Helps,
Jim

Generally 6.1 is faster than 6. Kin0Kin uses a 6mb page pool and a file cache to speed performance, additionally it is an exceptionally well built ROM. This means that after opening a large number of programs those programs will run faster but you will have less memory available to open other programs. In implemenation I have never run into a memory chrunch while using K ROM final. That said if you take a 6.1 rom, set the page pool to 6mb and setup a file cache (I believe K uses 4 MB) it more than likely will be faster than K Rom final (if it is a well cooked ROM). However you may just want to wait for K to release his 6.1 rom when it is out of Beta (still kinda buggy) promises to be blazing fast and to have visual overhaul.
Thanks for taking the time to reply fellas! I should maybe clarify what I was trying to say. I was really wondering if anyone has tried various lite ROMs out there (including K's Final), and if so, how do you think they compared?
This question may be a little too subjective to answer with any certainty but it might point others in the right direction if they are looking for a fast Lite ROM. My intention here is not to put other ROM cookers down by the way; I have a great respect for these individuals who have give so much of their time to this community. In the end though, it seems that each ROM has it's specialties and IMHO, K's WM6 Final Lite ROM specializes in speed (among other things).
With all of my programs loaded: PI8, PB, ILauncher, WBA Lite, Total Comander2.5, on device, and about 6 or so more on the storage card, I sit now with the following:
28MB+/- program memory available
57mb+/- Storage memory available
I have already tested various ROMs and have yet to find one more responsive, not just "out of the box". Are there others who have also experienced this? Kin0Kin may not make a Lite ROM for 6.1 and I'm o.k. with that (given enough support who knows) Anyway, if his WM6 Lite ROM is the fastest currently out there, then think of how fast a 6.1 Lite release by K could be. In any case, I am looking forward to using his 6.1 once he releases it.
So to clarify again, for those of you who have used various lite ROMs (including K's Final), how do/did you find they compared? If there was a tread like this months ago, I might have found K's a little quicker (lol). Thanks again for input!
Well..I am one of the lite Rom fans too...I agree with you that they are faster than the full versions. However, as soon as you install bunch of your apps, it becomes as fast as a regular full rom. The only reason I use lite versions is that I believe that the less apps you cook in a rom the less buggy it is and since I have the standard set of apps that I always intall in a rom which most of the rom cooker don't include in their roms, or include along with other apps that I don't use, which again make a rom buggier.
So, again, lite is fast before you intall your apps, and it is great for customization it terms of installing your own apps.
P.S. I read someone saying that they never had an issue with having not enough memory(RAM). That's exactly what happened to me. I didn't understand the point of having a lot of RAM. But recently, after I started using spb pocket plus, spb mobile shell, htc home all together, I found out that I am running out of RAM, now I need more RAM. Because having all these apps running plus a music player I have around 6-8 of free memory, which I never used to have less than 20MB.
I have to go with Matt's Pandora Naked roms. I've tried a bunch and really like PN7.2. I run a lot of software and his rom has a ton of ram and storage. I included a screenshot with the mem in top right with Pocketplus, pocketweather, S2US, pockettoolman, Qmenu etc.
Anyhow, I like K's roms too, so in the end it's up to you to decide. I'm a Ram freak and like to keep a lot free. So good luck
Agree with noellenchris, I am using Pandora Naked 7b2 WM6 really great, very fast & stable. With lots of Memory & space. My experience with WM6.1 wasn't so good I had to revert back to WM6, I am lovin it..
BTW can anybody please tell me what is page pool. I am not aware what exactly it means.

Matt uses a 6mb page pool in PN7.2. Page pool is like the file cache for ram, if you tend to use many smaller programs at the same time, then 4mb or 6mb is ok. If you use one larger program at a time and close when done then 6-10mb is better. The page pool comes at the expense of available RAM though. But remember that the programs are using this page pool as a cache.
Sort of like the cache on the processors of your computer. It's fast memory readily available for the processor to use. Hope this helps
Chris
i always liked schap's roms, then i tried pay's (that one wasnt bad either), but in the end ShadoW TE 6.1 won overall, even though it doesnt use the latest build, it s really stable and fast - plus i dont have to bother with reinstalling all the dark skins/themes/cabs
Has anyone pointed you to KarHu's posts...? He has done an excellent job benchmarking roms... Currently, I think he is up to 52 different roms... I usually wait for him to post his results before I decide on a different version to use... Sometimes, my illness takes over and I can't wait.. Ok, usually this happens, but it is a good resource nonetheless...

Faria has just posted his latest build on WM6.1.
This also seems to be fast and stable you can try out this.

yeah, at 2am, when I just decide to pop in and see a new rom, I gotta flash it then...
I'm getting my 8525 back sometime today with a white screen. If I can unbrick it, I'll most likely continue using vp3G 3.0. It was always fast.
Thanks for the feedback everyone! Debonairone, I never new about that post before, it's very insightful. I would like to see K's newest Lite (Final) tested soon, I tried Shamanix's Grass 2.2 and it was excellent but K's felt a little faster so it would be interesting to see it benched. I had to laugh when I read about your 2AM flash comments. I've had about 3 of these over the past week. This seems to be the only time I find lately, after the kids are asleep and I finish all my other "chores" (lol).
Chris, thanks for pointing out Pandora's Naked ROM. I flashed the latest and it is very impressive. I would say K's Lite is very comparable to this, especially with the available memory "out of the box" (4vs6mb pagepool accounted for). K's out of the box available Program memory was 32.20 with a 4mb PagePool and Pandora's was 30.46 with 6mb PagePool; Storage was also close.
I too love my memory and I think that Pandor's Naked ROMs are almost identical in free memory if not a tad more but I do have to take into account that K's had more programs already loaded namely Office 2007, Calculator and games (I used cabs for PN9). I was also comparing WM6 with a naked WM6.1 BTW I love the fact that Pandora has the 6.1 "naked". On the other side of the coin, K has the larger dialer buttons/skin and in his 6.1 (Full) he uses the 5.0 Camera (still bugged though). I'm hoping to see a fixed Camera 5.0 in his next release. Overall, I think the two ROMs are very comparable I should have compared PN7 but it was to tempting to try 9 and I am getting tired of flashing (must have done 30 over the past few days).
I guess when it comes to speed, there are many ROMs that are close in speed and memory. In the end, it probably comes down to a matter of personal opinion. I like PN9 and I'll be keeping my eye on this although, there is something about the feel of K's latest ROMs that I am in Love with. With WM6.1 out now I guess we'll see some new speed records and be back at this topic in several months Thanks for the link and much insight fellas,

Hello, I was usgin joshoss V8B2 manilla2d and with some apps installed (via device update) I was left with like 10 megs free, so I tried the PDACornerPro.V27 - Build 20759 NonRBSN Josh-Abs (both greeeeeeeeat ROMS!!!!) and installed basically the same apps with the addition of HTC Home to have a nice look and feel (closer to manilla)... and ended up with around 12 megs free.... so I'm not sure which one is eating more resources.... any idea? manilla is still more unstable, right?
diego
Personally I do not feel that manila is for the hermes, until I get my touch3g I am going to run HTC home and spb mobile shell.
I am also quite interested in the study...
Currently using HTC HOme and happy with it, but if Manilla doesn't consume much more resources (In terms of RAM: for the storage we can all use a Micro SD anyway...), I would immediately switch !!!
Anybody can comment more?
I played around with the earlier versions of M2D but found it very unstable. I have yet to try the new roms with it cooked in but am going to soon.
I find HTC home a little bare for my needs with M2D doing what I want and not such a bare screen. I like the fullscreen use and nicer look. I believe it does use more Ram but not a major amount. My issue was always the stability. Hopefully the newer versions prove to be somewhat more stable then their earlier incarnations...
Cheers...
I am a streamline fanatic and like to keep my resources in check. Personally, on the Hermes I think Manila eats up to many resources.
Maybe in the earlier versions there might have been some memory leaks, but I noticed that in the end, I would end up with under 20megs of ram. And if you play with Manila that would go down. HTC Home uses about 4 megs.
Also when I had Manila on, I found that Opera would crash more often, mostly due to running out of memory while it would never do such thing while running HTC Home.
Also I noticed some sluggishness on the Hermes while using Manila, which also sometimes took a little longer --5-10 seconds-- to load, depending on the ROM.
So all in all, once HTC Home is loaded, it is always almost instantaneous, while Manila would again slowdown the phone in mid-operation. And by that I mean switching from the Today Screen to let's say settings or programs.

I believe Josh's version is stable (from what I read)
Hi guys,
I tried like 4-5 Manilla 2D builds. They all had some bugs which weren't such a pain in the ass, but they were annoying. I was using PDA Corner V25 - great rom. Several days ago I installed PDAViet's Manilla2D v20 ROM and I must admit it is great. I didn't have any problems with manilla in terms of performance. The RAM left is 21MB on boot. The overall performance of the ROM is great. All apps work as fast as on the abusalza's rom. However I haven't tested the YouTube app, since I don't use it. The only problem is the lower in call volume compared to abusalza's rom. And if you use video call, I'm not sure if it's included.
I used multiple ROMs with Manilla 2D .. im now flashing backa again to a ROM without Manilla because i had too many problems with it.. i'm used to listen a lot of music... but with manilla on my Hermie the battery is empty so fast that sometimes i don't even have the chance to lsiten to the music ( i recharge it every night.. and i usually listen to music at about 15:00 pm.. by then it's already on low battery =s
on the other hand there are some stupid buggs in it.. like youtube doesnt work... sometimes the usb-connection doesnt work.. or what also bothers me is the volume control that is removed from audiomanager... there are also some other small problems which bother me but i'm not going to spend any more time on it right now
sorry for my bad english =)
ps. if somebody finds a tool for me to change the music player in manilla ( like from audiomanager to windows mediaplayer) pm me pls..
yes, in my case, I was using Josh's version and it was very stable and had I think all functionality working...the problem was after installing some apps, and after runining for a while opening and closing things I get an error of out of memory...
is there a way to make all "Device Update" to install on storage card?
will some more space on main memory help the RAM issue?
I've tried it out a bit. I'm using update 19 from here, and the Manilla 2D Customiser. On CRC's 13.0 naked non-big storage rom, I used UC to put on all the cab files in the right order, except for the Opera and Youtube apps. Using the customiser, I have removed the internet, mapping and settings tabs, and it runs pretty smoothly. Usually between 18-20MB RAM free. This does tend to go down a bit with usage, but I tend to soft-reset daily, and its not really a problem.
been using pdaviet's V20 and it is really stable and fast. youtube does work and the few times i used it, manilla2d kept running in the background without affecting overall performance which doesn't happen when i run opera and big boss dumps manilla2d to get more ram. it's still one of the best roms i've come across so far and hoping to stick to it - even having to put up with an annoying bug on calendar app.
i might be wrong about this but i found the whole thing a lot faster when i decided to be honest with myself and disable some tabs from manilla2d, tabs that would make it look good and get friends wowing but not really worth keeping just for the sake of showing off. i've disabled weather, music and pictures. pictures cause if anyone starts fiddling with my phone and see my pics THAT would be something to be embarrassed about, for music i have my zune and for the weather, i can just look outside the window.

I had the exact same deal running when I used M2D lol. But I've since ditched the whole 2D thing. I'm running PDACorner V27 and man it is faaast AND stable. M2D would crash way too often for my taste. In reality it was designed for the Kaiser/Tilt. Which is why not too many people on those forums have as many issues with it as we do. I remember I had the full 2D setup and I was running Opera and my Program mem usage was on 98% (about 2-3 MBs free). That's why I've decided to wait for the Fuze if I really want Manila.
When I try to update library from storage card it will start to adding files then stop. Any suggestions. It worked fine with another rom I was using.

i really have the same problem asa u, and now i do not deside to flash any ROM that had installed the M2D, & I like Spb Shell most, cause it is nice and stable
I have a Diamond that my wife has just started using and she really cant get her head round TF3D as she is used to push picture favorite contacts and she cant seem to get used to the sliding around. She really doesnt need it to be fully featured as she wont surf, use facebook etc. Its just for sms, contacts and a good interface. I looked at Titanium but I dont like the UI.
SPB Mobile shell seems to be the easiest and fastest solution.
I have tried a couple of full featured 6.5 ROMS here and with SPB mobile shell installed and you generally get so little RAM left over it hangs and then she is coming back to me saying the phone is a load of rubbish.
I know there is a good usuable phone in there (its in mint condition) but need to know what ROM is recommended to do this with, ie. that TF3D is not on there, mobile shell runs, and I am not likely to hang it.
As all the threads here seem to be WM6.5 lately, does anyone think one of these will be ok, or shall I look for a 6.1. I am an avid reader of the forum and I know people hate being asked what ROM but if there is someone out there with a little experience I will really appreciate it. Even an old reliable ROM would be OK, as the SPB MS3 will be doing the work.
I have already spent the last week trying a few ROMS and they stat off OK then the hanging starts and its back to the beginning.

Hi. I tried your ROM from post #4 and although the RAM figures were good, I got all the SPB MS3 loaded and configured nicely, on three occasions yesterday it hung, and when I soft rest using the red button, it started again as if from a Hard Reset and I would lose everything and have to then spend another hour reinstalling again. I respect everything you do in your work but I really wonder if this phone is capable of running WM6.5.
These are what I installed:
SPB MS3
Sense Revolution 2 Theme (with mortscript and message2reg)
thumbcal
g alarm
phone canvas
This brought the RAM usage up to around 75%.
It took an age to boot up everytime and would hang very often.
I tried using it myself in TF3D and not installing anything, and found that I couldnt call anyone from the contacts menu. The only way it works is using the phone dialer.
I am currently running Benko Clean v2.0, it is super quick and is a basic 6.5 ROM, which comes with Titanium (turn it off) and loads of RAM left over for another UI

Its WM 6.5, though
Will this work and chew up what is a small battery even quicker?
I'm using the Aztor V2 ROM with SPB MS3. I have PUSH email on so activesync is running all the time.
I did a soft reset last around 23:00 last night, received about 8 emails and used TomTom for 30 minutes and I've got 58% program memory used. I don't get significant lag on anything. It doesn't crash (often)
Aztor V3 has just been released, I've not had chance to look at it yet though.
Check out the thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=422417
Generally a good ROM IMHO.
I am using Cloudy 1.3. It's very fast and light.
I suggest changing it's pagepool to 10 MB with Pagepool Changer, because it makes it a bit faster

Is this a clean /lite ROM?
Has anyone used BsB's 6.5.1A? It seems to be without TF3D.
Does anyone think that it would be better to just go to something like Dutty's V3.6b LITE, I mean I know its WM 6.1 but don't his ROMs have a reputation for stability?

clean, yes, lite no.
AZTOR stand for - Alpha Zero Tweaked Official Roms - IOW Alpha Zero takes the officially released ROM (6.1) and removes the bloated rubbish and adds several tweaks to make the ROM run smoother and quicker using less memory.
Nice
The easiest way is to try some of these ROM's, I know it can take a while to reconfigure everything but it's the best way to find out which is best for your personal needs - we're all different, that's why there's (thankfully) so many cooks
The main thing is disabling TF3D/TF3D2/titanium in the settings ->today section before installing SPB3. And also, phone canvases can use up to 10mb of additional RAM. So if you're into having a ram efficient phone, don't use phone canvas, use the standard WM dialer...
As for 6.5 i was pleased with BSB... now i am using Gen.Y, with TF3D2.1 and Tachi VGA dialer (they come with the rom), plus i'm using S2U2 and i get around 30-35mb of ram free (that's 34% of ram free the most).

I think I will give BSB a try and if it is the same I will probably go back to Duttys WM 6.1
Download the 6.5R edition. That's the non 6.5.1 version. The latest version is a bit...unstable. I have just flashed it and i already think i don't like it. Download pre-last version - my opinion.

I am using Shaks.P v4.30 rom with SPB shell and there are no hangings at all, it is fast and very stable with 58.88MB free RAM after restart with running SPB shell, Gyrator and I am using PhonEx dialer.

But if Free Ram is important isn't the Version2.0 ROM's in Post # 2 better? Or does post boot up the Ram usage go up? Maybe I am missing something
[Version 3.2]
After installing the ROM :
Free main memory : 140.37 MB
Free RAM (At boot up) :45%
Version 3.2 [28 August 2009] [Re-Edited]
After installing the ROM :
Free main memory : 128.00 MB
Free RAM (At boot up) :58%
Version 2.0 [22 August 2009]
After installing the ROM :
Free main memory : 127.00 MB
Free RAM (At boot up) :59%
If I was giving my phone to someone else I'd put the stock ROM back on it... everything's guaranteed to work as HTC intended that way, and it's how I'd want a phone given to me by someone else.
Another Vote for BsB 6.5R. I'm Currently using it with SPB Mobile Shell 3.
About 47MB Free RAM After everything is up and Super speed!

I agree with you, and I tried that too, but it is the wifes first excursion into HTC land and she just found all the sliding around a bit cumbersome on the Diamond Screen. Hence a simple ROM, no bells and whistles, with a simple SPB MS3 interface, that is push button and there.
Unfortunately, the only customization you can do with TF3D is rearrange the tabs, delete some of them and slide the people tab up and down for favourites. If there was a way to have the favourite contacts page (with push button pictures) instead of the scrolling. The 'Programs' tab make it better but that is it.
I am an HD user and with WM6.5 and I love TF3D with latest Manilla, and I would have put that on the Diamond too, but the poor Diamond is just not up to running WM6.5, TF3D, Manilla 2.1 and be able to use the camera or browse albums, there isn't enough RAM or processing power. She will be handing it to me every 5 mins and asking 'what's it trying to do now?'

Since I posted another thread has popped up which may explain the instability issues.

I use Shaks.P v4.30 rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462455
Disable TF3D, use SPB mobile shell 3.0 with Sence la Révolution V2.
Installer a lot of program.
My diamond no hang n no restart, very very stable.
I think maybe u should flash again, after flash, don restore old system data into new rom, just restore contact only.
For girl purpose, u should install some game too
Does anything think they have the fastest Manila 2.5 ROM?
I'm trying to find one, that has fluent animations, quick response/no lag, but does not eat lots of RAM, 65% max.
Is this possible?
I'd prefer WinMo 6.5, but I've read (and personally found out) that WinMo 6.1 uses less RAM.
All the ROM's I've used use around 78-90% ram, which means I can't run any apps!
My Current ROm seems pretty good(Sun Y), but when some parts are a little laggy and stil uses quite a bit of RAM.
Think this will help alot of people if chefs try to work on a ROM like this. I know it's hard because looking for a Manila ROM is looking for a RAM eating ROM too but I'm sure it's possible, with lots of tweaking..
Oh and don't know if you've noticed on your diamonds, how annoying it is when you slide through contacts, sms, email inbox etc, that it's 'cutty' and laggy ,rather than the iphone style where its smooth and good feedback.
trying to find this in the ROM too.

the problem is, the iPhone OS was written FOR the iPhone. Eventuall iPhoneOS7 or whatever will come out and will require hardware far better than the iphone...it will never be ported becuase apple dont like that sort of thing.
Manilla 2.5 was NEVER supposed to run on the diamond...it just hasnt got the hardware to do it properly.
Manilla 2.1 works fine, no problems, fast as you like...this was ALSO never supposed to run on the diamond, but it's been ported successfully becuase the phones is WAS supposed to run on arent far off the diamond hardware wise.
2.5 doesnt
yet
also this may sound stupid but many ppl actually doesnt know how to use slider correctly...
we dont have that iphone glass screens we have resistive screens actually made for stylus. if u want to move it use little bit of nail and u see how smooth it scrolls
I have build a WM6.5 ROM with HTC Sense everything working 100%, Manila is very fast and and ROM is stable. You get 36mb free RAM on startup, you will never run out of RAM again! (with GPS software you may run out of RAM)
I will be releasing my ROM soon... You can follow the progress of the ROM on Twitter. (see my sig)

No. As simple as that.
Manila 2.5 consumes alot - because it can do alot - as soon as scrolling through a couple of pages, and it will increase to at least 75% on WM6.1 no matter how light it is. If you want Manila, just cope with that. If you can't, forget about Manila.
And please stop comparing WM devices with that iphone crap. That's two different worlds. That iphone thing has 10% of the features of a WM device, and it sucks as a cell phone (which it is also supposed to be - not just an mp3 player).

36mb free means 69% on startup. That's quite a few mb more than Kisja's 6.1 ROM with Sense 2.5, so I hope you'll be able to tune that down a bit And I recommend you to free up way more storage. 50mb on main storage is not much!
I'd love to test your ROM when it's out, I hope you'll get it all to come out nice! Keep up the work!

I'm not comparing how good the iphone is - if you ask me you'll find I'm rather against the iPhone and its over rated popularity. The only thing that I apreciate from the iphone is it's 3.5mm jack that so many phones fail to have, as well as smooth scrolling.
Never said the iphone was better than WM.

Two days of reading and no choice for my first CustomROM.
I have the Diamond from more than a year with the last HTC Rom and I like it very much... really fast (lightning) and responsive. The only problem is that I want to try something new, haven't decided yet 2.5 or 2.1 and 6.1 or 6.5 I guess I have to give it a try. So can you give me a point to start from, a Rom that you liked... for now I'm thinking of donsalari's roms but more reading to come.
Anyway I totally agree with longice's comment about the iPhone bullsh*ts
Benkos is allright...
But like I said It's hard to find one which will give you more RAM and have manila 2.5/wm6.5.
And SUN Y is good too.
I've found SUN Y's to be the one with most response as well as easthetics..
THe most fluent ROM i've used is NRG's, except so much RAM Is used you can't even use the camera and some points

I've had great experinces with the Gen.Y ROM's, high recommended!
I'm currently tryin the SUN Y 6.1 rom with sense, and after a bit it can get very ram hungry, but that's mainly sense. I tried the 6.5 with sense and that was just rubbish, around 90% RAM after like 10 mins... Now i'm waiting on the RC2 of the SUN rom
This thread is gonna create flame.
Mod, please close it.
the fastest rom i ever used is 2.11 offical
but love cook rom and now 6.1 + TF3D 2.5
that my choose.
Deep Shining
It's a pity there are no more deepshining roms as they were the best, fast repsonsive and lots of memory to run apps, i have tried almost all the roms available and everytime I come back to deep shining 8.2.
Got to download the kitchen he release and have a go at updating to build 21876 and Sense UI 2.5
I'll be waiting ....

I'm waiting for U. I also used the Deepshining 8.2 and until now no other rom handled the speed and free ram better than this one.
sense 2.5 isn't a perfect port to diamond or diamond dose not have the necesary resrources to driveit right.I haven't seen one rom on the forum that has smooth sense 2.5 and when i say smooth i say like manila 1.X
If you want a fast and stable WinMo6.6 with Sense 2.1, find the DonSalari's Rom.
I've been looking and sometime even cooking some roms for a few years and this ROM was my choice.
WM6.1 is much faster and stable than 6.5. I also always wanted to stick with new 6.5.x builds, but then tried Gen.Y wm6.1. It's way faster and smoother, especially sense. Also ram usage is 10-20 percent lower.
Also, sense 2.1 seems to be way smoother than sense 2.5, especially seen right after soft reset, when it has to fully load tabs yet, so scrolling through tabs in 2.5 is not smooth
I have also tried allmost all of the roms on this site. Now i'm using the Shaks. P v4.30 ROM with wm6.1. It's a clean rom without manila and with all the originall HTC stuff + some additional applications. Now I'm using this Rom with spb ms 3.5.2.
The best wm6.5 i have tried is also the Don Salaris rom but it has some bugs and i have to soft-reset my device quite offten.
br
The problema its not the RAM coz sense 2.5 lags badly on Blackstone with more ram then the diamond so what is the problem? the CPU could be? the port of sense 2.5 is bad?
I'm about to give up on this phone. It constantly lags/glitches/resets in messaging, has all kinds of issues with multitasking, and is extremely slow and unreliable.
ANYONE out there that has a fully functioning messaging/internet/calling machine out there - please post what you did from start to finish to create a great phone.
Thank you.
This is my last attempt - been terrible since "upgrading" from AT&T Tilt
I see from your sig that you're using a ROM with Sense 2.5 which may be the source of your problems.
If you want to read my story, keep going. Otherwise, my tip is to "downgrade" to official WinMo 6.1 ROM.
Here's my story:
When I bought the device, I was pleasantly happy with the stock ROM which has WinMo 6.1 and the version of TouchFlo3D that doesn't have the weather in the Home tab.
The 1st ROM I flashed was the official HTC released WinMo 6.5 ROM. Huge mistake. Everything worked but just seemed slower. I've since tried multiple cooked ROMs over the months. They were all faster than the official WinMo 6.5 ROM but there was always a glitch here and there. Often, it was minor enough to be suitable for daily use.
But then I decided recently to switch back to my stock WinMo 6.1 ROM just for the heck of it. It's so much faster and smoother. And everything just works.
Positives of the original WinMo 6.1 ROM over others:
1. Multitasking - Under normal usage, I've never had an application autokill because RAM was running out. This is the case even with Push-Internet enabled. With other ROMs, I can almost never run Opera, Streaming Media, and MSN Messenger at the same time. One of them will certainly autokill.
2. TouchFlo3D smoothness - There's no stuttering and drops in framerates when moving the slider. With other ROMs, (especially Sense2.5) it's never as smooth.
Drawbacks of the original WinMo6.1 ROM over others:
1. Lockscreen - The stock lockscreen of WinMo 6.5 is much more elegant and useful than that of WinMo 6.1
2. TouchFlo3D - It has since been replaced by newer versions with more functionality and eyecandy. But to be honest, the only thing I miss is the weather forecast on the Home tab.
3. Overall finger friendliness in the OS - Dropdown menus and checkboxes are all better in WinMo 6.5.
Its up to you if you want to move back to 6.1....but i hated 6.1... i had more problems with it
With windows 6.1... i had problems with my bluetooth... when i have the bluetooth on my ear for 10 minutes without a call... i lose connection,, i get "lost connection"
With windows 6.5.... the problem was solved... didnt have no bluetooth problems anymore
I want to love my TP2 but ever since I upgraded my OS to 6.5 and other cooked ROM's, I've had issues. WM 6.5 seems to cause my TP 2 either go into standby of death (cant come out of standby) or if and when it eventually decides to come out of it, the screen is frozen.
With cooked ROMS, I have to constantly flash different ROM's in hopes of finding one that is stable and runs smoothly. I have until the 5th of March to either get a replacement TP2 with 6.1 WM running on it or find a cooked ROM that features stability and smoothness.
I found the EnergyROM series to be quite stable and fast for me. Only drawback is you should get the Titanium version instead of the Sense/Manila version. Much much faster.
I have a Tilt2, and the stock 6.5 ROM was slower than molasses. Dunno if you can downgrade the Tilt2 to 6.1.
Your issue is exactly why I do not switch to the cooked ROMs until they are very mature for my particular device. The unintended consequences and insurmountable little glitches drive you crazy. There are great ROMs out there, but look at each ROMs thread and you will see that they all have their issues.
I have the Tilt 2 with stock 6.5. I feel pretty certain my setup and speed can smoke any other U.S smartphone that you would trade in for. First I removed all of the bloat with CrudScraper and manual methods. Next I turned off all TouchFlo. This is the single biggest improvement to my device's performance. TF takes up big time resources and in my opinion is one of the worst interfaces available for WM. I also turn off all Today screen plugins. I use Mobile Shell which is the one big trade off...it is awesome, but it too is a huge resource hog. Install Manila NoPushInternet, get rid of Opera 9. Install SSK TP2 Dynamic Resource Proxy. Then become very adept at using the Rhodium Keyboard controller. Install something like Memmaid and schedule daily cleans of the cache files and temp folders. Install something like SKSchema that allows you to schedule soft resets overnight while you sleep. I recommend loading Pnonex 2.2 or Inesoft Phone to add incredible functionality to your phone with contacts/favorites/profiles. Stay in Edge as much as possible. Only switch to 3G when you need to surf or download. Except for the extremely long reset time, my device smokes my brother's Moto Android and my other bros iPhone. I have no issues with freezes, connecting to internet, not getting notifications and many of the other issues I hear about. These issues are almost always related to a cooked ROM or an unstable 3rd party app. Don't get me wrong, the stock ROM could have been soooo much better. But I will match my functionality and stability against any cooked ROM here. Bottom line is, to each his own.
Slow down, notice the subtle nuances then decide
I went from my Wizard to first a Cliq then a Behold 2 before realizing that I am a WinMo girl and going with my first instinct and getting my TP2 (all within my buyers remorse time). I had a stock 6.1 and then "upgraded" to first a stock 6.5, then to cooked variations.
I went back to my stock 6.1
I removed most bloat, added a few updated programs, used Advanced Config to tweak things. My rom doesn't have the pretty Home page with the weather (which frankly is the ONLY thing I miss), but I can go roughly 36 hours with very heavy usage and up to almost 3 days with normal to light usage. It is stable and fast. I have no internet issues, no BT issues, no wifi issues. I do not use email on my phone so I don't know if there is any issue or not, but I do rely heavily on GPS and have had no problems.
I did add some cab files that made little tweaks, like the one that gives me a snooze option on my stock alarm. I did upgrade my Opera to 10 from the stock 9. I use TCPMP as my media player, and removed most of the tab options--keeping only Home, Calendar, Weather, Programs, Settings. I changed my splash screen to a custom one I made, and switched my wallpaper...but other than those minor things, it is a stock rom and I am happy with it.
There will always be a debate over 6.1 vs 6.5 versions...I prefer stability and speed to eye candy, so for me 6.1 wins. I felt 6.5 was like going to Vista. Sure it was prettier, but the "improvements" just didn't feel like an improvement to me.
The best thing to do while you are still in the buyers remorse period is to go stock, add some tweaks and feel it out. From that you can decide if you are a 6.1 person or a 6.5 person. You will also get a basic feel for the device and what it is capable of. Many cooked roms here are great, but as with anything cooked, it is a matter of taste. Perhaps you haven't found your right flavor yet. But if you keep blowing through roms, you aren't getting the full TP2 experience.
Here's an analogy--I was just in Vegas, but this was the first time I really SAW Vegas. There is an old Vegas (6.1 rom) and a new Vegas (6.5 variations). I enjoyed the buffets and shows at old Vegas, but loved the lights and sparkle of new Vegas. You won't know what works for you if you don't check it out individually and linger for a bit. Much like my stay in Vegas, if I blew through it (as you seem to be going through roms), all the subtle nuances would be missed.
THERE ARE WAYS TO TWEAK THE DEVICE. Maybe you just aren't feeling WinMo and need to move to a Droid...some people are like that (I'm not one of those people). As far as a WinMo device goes though, this one is rock solid.
akashastrega said it best
I agree with akashastrega above. Each user has his/her own needs.
I am a power business user of my phone. I use it all day every day for email, calendar, etc. I do not use it as a music player.
I am on Ark's 6.5 ROM (a couple builds ago). It is stable and I have it tweaked to my liking.
I would definitely suggest looking around at the ROMs to find one you like. Some are more sparkly than others and some are more stable than others. Once you find a ROM, decide what tweaks you want/need. And if you are having any issues, serach for solutions.
Just got my Tilt2 and so far have disabled TF3D and added some cabs. Seems to work great. Havent had problems with freezes or anything. Disabling TF3D really made a huge difference and I reallllly like this phone compared to the Fuze I used to have.
Disable TF3D.
Add PocketBreeze, PhoneAlarm and PocketWeather.
Happy camper.
Flash DeepShining Rom and enjoy. Fast, stable and AWESOME.
After noticing that HTC had posted the Tilt2 shipped ROM here:
http://www.htc.com/us/support/tilt-2-att/downloads/
http://member.america.htc.com/download/RomCode/HTC_Tilt2_ATT/HTCTilt2ATTOriginalShipROM.exe
I decided to check if they had done the same for the T-Mobile TP2, and of course it was not there. Checked on their forums and posted on this thread to try and request it so that it would be available to anyone who preferred the 6.1 ROM over the 6.5 upgrade.

Maybe they would be more willing to post this as well if there was enough demand for it.

In short, you must walk on egg shells or winmo will crash and burn. As far as "smoking" the motodroid, that statement i believe is exaggerated. Yes it may (even then it's a maybe) run a little faster but i wouldn't use the word "smokes". Even if it does run faster, i'm willing to bet your brother hasn't had to do anything anywhere close to what you stated in the book you just wrote about what you did to your phone to make it stable. I don't care what ROM or what apps you install on your winmo phone, the core code is still crap and completely unstable and slow. You can't fix that with a cooked ROM or a 3rd party app.
To answer the original question: My suggestion is to wait for the android port to be completed and install android on your tp2. I've owned several winmo phones dating back to winmo 5 and I am now on the tilt2 with winmo 6.5 and i gotta say 6.5 is the worst of them all. The sms freezing/lagging and the sluggishness will never go away. The current android build isn't fully functional yet but you can make and receive calls, text, and get data on it so I use it about 50% of the time on my tilt2. Blows winmo out of the water as far as stability goes and the port isn't even complete. Looks to me like that's what you're looking for, stability. The only reason I don't use it exclusively is because power management isn't working properly yet so it drains the battery pretty quickly. But progess is being made as we speak.
Good luck.
This device has no bugs at all.
Use stock rom, or NRG rom, with sense 2.1, and WM build 21XXX, and u will see.
Its by far the stablest and smoothest WM device i had, even with the 528 qualcomm proccessor.
The only annoying thing on this device, is the modified bluetooth stack that sometimes causes the device to freeze on activesync via bluetooth.
To add something to this thread.
For the fun of it i tested my Tp2.
Normaly i dont lets apps stay open.
But just to let you all know i openend up
9 applications i started with round 70% free memory.
With all apps open it whent down to 35 % free memory.
Now this is nice to know.......no freeze no glitch and my tf3d slider works perfect.
After closing the apps i have 69% free memory back.
I use this phone alot for the hardware keyboard.( i have Hd2 to)
And i run official rom 2.1 sense.
Hope it helps a litlle.
Greetz.
I have the tilt 2 & I'm running JoshKoss 1.8 sence2.5 full build. It's running fast & stable no freezes or resets. I primary use this phone for e-mails, internet, & phone calls. I'm not into watching movies or listening to music on it.
I play with alot of cooked ROMs and I never really had any problems. I would say that you have to know the device and what you want. Typically after flashing, I will go deep in and turn off whatever that I don't need. So gone with all the auto-updates, gsensor, push internets etc. I even use MemMaid and disable all the startup items, services and notifications that I do not need.
My device runs alot faster and stable as a result.
actually MIGHTY ROM seems to be the bet rom around.. its stable and FAST!!
I'm using my TP2 with the Stock 6.5 & have never faced any problems whatsoever
