Version 3.0.1 (May 22, 2009):
•Saving unknown phone numbers from the call log added
•Showing/hiding SIM contacts added
•“Show Today” widget implemented
•“Remove All” option in call log added -
•Performance of portrait/landscape switching improved
•Some issues with “Edit Profile” dialog box on Treo devices fixed
•Contact matching in call log improved
•Performance of hardware accelerated carousel improved
•Other minor bug fixed
The rotation speed of Portrait/Landscape change is much faster than in version 3.0.0. That's one of the things that bugged me a lot, but now it's fixed.
Another good thing is that when you install it over version 3.0.0. it keeps all your settings. I could say it was a seamless upgrade.
Very good work from SPB again!
great... cheers mate

I have installed SPB Mobile Shell on my phone. But it is not comming as panel i have to go to programmes to start it. Can we make it as panel so whenever suffle we can
I want it as a panel too.
Hello Guys,
I am using SPB Mobile shell 3 on my X1 (WM 6.5) but everytime I change the theme color from blue to black, it reverts back to blue after a while which is pretty annoying actually. I hadn't this problem with WM 6.1 though. Did any body else notice this on X1 with WM6.5?
thanks
I want is as Panel too
Well, it can't, but it pretty much replaces the standart today screen, so just uses the top left panel spot

Before you install, backup your settings with 3.0. You can easily restore them again with 3.01. That way, you keep your customised 'desktops' and settings.
battery life with the new update is still crap for me
using itje's 6.5 w/ manilla. battery drops from 100 to 96 in 2 hours after beign fully charged, unplugged with noa ctivity. ay.

I did it without backing up anything. It was fine - a painless upgrade, as all the settings are saved.
for those who don't have battery life issues, what rom are you using? i used the latest official r3 rom. itje's 6.5 manila, touch x, and vaklyrie 6.5 and they all still have an extremely quick abttery consumption ( experienced a 5% drop in less then 5 mintues).

Iulian has it in the Core kitchen. I tried it and it seemed to work, but I don't have BB service to test it out.
I'm running the modified for bbconnect/goodlink BlackMajik with bbconnect 4.0.0.67. It's been working fine for the past 2 weeks or so.

I too am running this and it seems to work pretty well. Does anyone know how or what it is going to take to get bbconnect running on the latest builds. I know something to do with hex editing or some such black magic! I'd really like to see someone make an idiot proof bb connect of vp3g's upcoming 3.0 release...
Me too.....

Works fine on my 8525. I synch email, appointments, and contacts. I'm not sure if it's the latest Black ROM's, the newer radios, or increased BB synchronization (at 3G), but my battery is barely lasting the day.
There are details on the universal forums about hacking the Hex values in order to get the version numbers to change.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294218
I have just loaded the official Dopod release 5.2.1437 (17944.0.3.1) but finding an changing the version numbers is at the edge of my understanding. I'm willing to give it a go but I am not keen to brick my jasjam.
Anyone want to provide some pointers?

all of the above :-( 8 - 10 hours max. disable 3G - start - settings - phone -gsm. will last for 24+ hours. BB have to stay connected 24x7. breaks all other connections unless u suspend bbc.
I can confirm that running BBC4.0 w WM5 and UMTS I only get about 36hrs from the battery. Less if I use the phone for calls alot.
But I would still appreciate anyone that could take the CustomRUU ROM and hack the version number back.
So would all the BBC users I suspect!

Ayup. Don't care about the battery life. Somewhere in those 36 hours I sleep and plug the phone in....
Elf's Latest ROM also has a Blackberry Connect version I have been using for the past few weeks with hardly any issues. Of course there is the need to suspend services to do more network related media things, as mentioned above, but I have been prompted to suspend Bb Services while using it and when done the service eventually restarts.
I've also found that using the Blackberry Browser works better than IE. It's one of the benefits of Bb Connect 4
Can you provide a link to 'Elf's latest ROM'. Sorry to sound n00bish but I am seeing ROMs posted under the various names but ppl refer to them via a wide and varied assortment of pseudonyms.

what about the good news you mentioned ? was that a temp black out / wrong device ? So should I hex the new Dopod/ATT to 5.2.1238 Build 17745.0.2.3 ? TIA
OK guys, here's my ten bobs worth.
Have tried BBC 4 on all of the recent black ROMS (that have the Hex edit hack) and whilst it works well, I also see the battery drain issue. Also noticed that as soon as I installed BBC4, the performance was s-l-o-w-e-r until I ran something (e.g. settings and then tabbed personal-systems-connection, etc.). Put another way, the Hermes lost it's responsiveness and only seemed to pick it up a little through use.
Just recently stuck BBC4 and then reverted back to 2 on vp3G's WM6 v3.0 ROM (BBC hacked) and the difference is massive. the responsiveness is back and I don't have the pain in the ar$e security settings. Maybe someone much more technical can shed some light on this - all I know is V4 is ****e and V2 flies

I got this Rom installed into my D810 WWE this afternoon. It runs pretty good and seems like doesn't have any error....but then, i found sth about Ram usage that drains pretty fast, what i mean is Ram stays around 25.3-5 after coldboot, then oops it drops to 20 without any applications being launched....that's what i have observed....will come up have more details....

That might happen because you have given (or it is like this by default) a lot of KBs for the cache. You can configure this with advance config.

Default is file cache enabled and the size is on auto in this ROM.
I have it running for 2 days now, without a reset and the RAM is on 16.82 MB. In my today screen is date, SPB PhoneSuite and SPB Diary. HTC Manager 2.1 (B33803) is still configured. I haven't installed SPB Mobile Shell and SPB Weather, yet.
It's such a quick ROM, I don't exchange it now for another one. Believe me, I tested all latest OS related ROM's since 2 years now.
Feautures I use too: ActiveSync, TomTom, Cyberon Voice Dial, Jabra headset, .NET 3.5 (with configuration program) and Windows Live 10.6.0034.0800 with UMTS.
I don't use video call, MMS and HSDPA.
No solution for Video Call ??? I can't keep it , snif snif ....
So, here's what i did finally
I decided and flashed back in WWE6.0! Because of one simple reason is Ram! After flash back in WM6, Ram stays about 25-27....so what i think is WM6.1 consumes too much Ram.....the only thing impresses me is its thread sms function, without it....it's nothing at all compare with WM6...

I have the same results with the ROM in my signature. I have not reset my PDA for 3 days and RAM is 25.29 MB.
I have a Diamond that my wife has just started using and she really cant get her head round TF3D as she is used to push picture favorite contacts and she cant seem to get used to the sliding around. She really doesnt need it to be fully featured as she wont surf, use facebook etc. Its just for sms, contacts and a good interface. I looked at Titanium but I dont like the UI.
SPB Mobile shell seems to be the easiest and fastest solution.
I have tried a couple of full featured 6.5 ROMS here and with SPB mobile shell installed and you generally get so little RAM left over it hangs and then she is coming back to me saying the phone is a load of rubbish.
I know there is a good usuable phone in there (its in mint condition) but need to know what ROM is recommended to do this with, ie. that TF3D is not on there, mobile shell runs, and I am not likely to hang it.
As all the threads here seem to be WM6.5 lately, does anyone think one of these will be ok, or shall I look for a 6.1. I am an avid reader of the forum and I know people hate being asked what ROM but if there is someone out there with a little experience I will really appreciate it. Even an old reliable ROM would be OK, as the SPB MS3 will be doing the work.
I have already spent the last week trying a few ROMS and they stat off OK then the hanging starts and its back to the beginning.

Hi. I tried your ROM from post #4 and although the RAM figures were good, I got all the SPB MS3 loaded and configured nicely, on three occasions yesterday it hung, and when I soft rest using the red button, it started again as if from a Hard Reset and I would lose everything and have to then spend another hour reinstalling again. I respect everything you do in your work but I really wonder if this phone is capable of running WM6.5.
These are what I installed:
SPB MS3
Sense Revolution 2 Theme (with mortscript and message2reg)
thumbcal
g alarm
phone canvas
This brought the RAM usage up to around 75%.
It took an age to boot up everytime and would hang very often.
I tried using it myself in TF3D and not installing anything, and found that I couldnt call anyone from the contacts menu. The only way it works is using the phone dialer.
I am currently running Benko Clean v2.0, it is super quick and is a basic 6.5 ROM, which comes with Titanium (turn it off) and loads of RAM left over for another UI

Its WM 6.5, though
Will this work and chew up what is a small battery even quicker?
I'm using the Aztor V2 ROM with SPB MS3. I have PUSH email on so activesync is running all the time.
I did a soft reset last around 23:00 last night, received about 8 emails and used TomTom for 30 minutes and I've got 58% program memory used. I don't get significant lag on anything. It doesn't crash (often)
Aztor V3 has just been released, I've not had chance to look at it yet though.
Check out the thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=422417
Generally a good ROM IMHO.
I am using Cloudy 1.3. It's very fast and light.
I suggest changing it's pagepool to 10 MB with Pagepool Changer, because it makes it a bit faster

Is this a clean /lite ROM?
Has anyone used BsB's 6.5.1A? It seems to be without TF3D.
Does anyone think that it would be better to just go to something like Dutty's V3.6b LITE, I mean I know its WM 6.1 but don't his ROMs have a reputation for stability?

clean, yes, lite no.
AZTOR stand for - Alpha Zero Tweaked Official Roms - IOW Alpha Zero takes the officially released ROM (6.1) and removes the bloated rubbish and adds several tweaks to make the ROM run smoother and quicker using less memory.
Nice
The easiest way is to try some of these ROM's, I know it can take a while to reconfigure everything but it's the best way to find out which is best for your personal needs - we're all different, that's why there's (thankfully) so many cooks
The main thing is disabling TF3D/TF3D2/titanium in the settings ->today section before installing SPB3. And also, phone canvases can use up to 10mb of additional RAM. So if you're into having a ram efficient phone, don't use phone canvas, use the standard WM dialer...
As for 6.5 i was pleased with BSB... now i am using Gen.Y, with TF3D2.1 and Tachi VGA dialer (they come with the rom), plus i'm using S2U2 and i get around 30-35mb of ram free (that's 34% of ram free the most).

I think I will give BSB a try and if it is the same I will probably go back to Duttys WM 6.1
Download the 6.5R edition. That's the non 6.5.1 version. The latest version is a bit...unstable. I have just flashed it and i already think i don't like it. Download pre-last version - my opinion.

But if Free Ram is important isn't the Version2.0 ROM's in Post # 2 better? Or does post boot up the Ram usage go up? Maybe I am missing something
[Version 3.2]
After installing the ROM :
Free main memory : 140.37 MB
Free RAM (At boot up) :45%
Version 3.2 [28 August 2009] [Re-Edited]
After installing the ROM :
Free main memory : 128.00 MB
Free RAM (At boot up) :58%
Version 2.0 [22 August 2009]
After installing the ROM :
Free main memory : 127.00 MB
Free RAM (At boot up) :59%
If I was giving my phone to someone else I'd put the stock ROM back on it... everything's guaranteed to work as HTC intended that way, and it's how I'd want a phone given to me by someone else.
Another Vote for BsB 6.5R. I'm Currently using it with SPB Mobile Shell 3.
About 47MB Free RAM After everything is up and Super speed!

I agree with you, and I tried that too, but it is the wifes first excursion into HTC land and she just found all the sliding around a bit cumbersome on the Diamond Screen. Hence a simple ROM, no bells and whistles, with a simple SPB MS3 interface, that is push button and there.
Unfortunately, the only customization you can do with TF3D is rearrange the tabs, delete some of them and slide the people tab up and down for favourites. If there was a way to have the favourite contacts page (with push button pictures) instead of the scrolling. The 'Programs' tab make it better but that is it.
I am an HD user and with WM6.5 and I love TF3D with latest Manilla, and I would have put that on the Diamond too, but the poor Diamond is just not up to running WM6.5, TF3D, Manilla 2.1 and be able to use the camera or browse albums, there isn't enough RAM or processing power. She will be handing it to me every 5 mins and asking 'what's it trying to do now?'

I'm on a Topaz and still waiting for our official WM6.5 ROM to be released (26th October is the date) and I wonder how fast and smooth the ROM is for you guys? I find all the custom ROMS for Topaz to be sluggish even tho the RAM usage is the same as WM6.1 (40-50%). So tell me guys
anybody have the theme from the 6.5 rom? im tired of the ugly microsoft one on my phone. i figure ill check out htcs 6.5 theme.
Coming from a person that likes "screen candy", but prefers performance - I am disappointed with 6.5 on my stock TP2 - Its not a complete failure, but to me you can tell its a vista type upgrade which the phone can't really handle.. its not as quick as 6.1 simply because its spending all its time dealing with the candy.

Window dressing
IMHO the upgrade is little more than Window(s)dressing.
a smear of screen candy added to WM 6.1.
They ought to have named it WM6.1.0.1. Yes i know. It´s their product and their right to "name their baby" but DAMN!!
Don´t get me wrong. I am not thinking of jumping ship and i upgraded as well.
I just can´t help i feeling like i bought a new screwdriver because the old one didn´t have a handle in "this years colours"
On top of that i seem to have received some stability issues together with the "upgrade". Haven´t nailed the problem yet and maybe it´s a user error, but at the very least i think it´s safe to state that stability in my experience haven´t improved one bit.
Regards
ELO
So how fluid is the startmenu for you guys? I remember it was very laggy on every custom ROM I've tried.
The whole phone could be described as laggy now, not a deal breaker - just a disappointment when your actually trying to use it and menus take a little longer to display etc...
Not only did the phone get slow and laggy with the new 6.5 update, there is also several bugs.
For instance when I turned off the phone with wifi enabled, then when I turned the phone back on, the wifi did not work or show in the notification area, but when I went in to Comm Manager the wifi appeared to be enabled. So I had to disable and then again enable the wifi to use it again.
I have tried to install/flash it a couple of times with the same result, but now I went back to 6.1 and is happy with my TP2 again.
I do not know what HTC thought of when they released this buggy and slow 6.5 update.

This problem is bothering me.. I can't belive HTC do not test its update!
sounds to me that TP2 owners should stay away from the upgrade to 6.5, not only because of the aferementioned problems, but also because a lot of owners are not happy with the (coloured) icons in the revised TF3D.

I think it is a nice "feature". If you start a program that needs network it automatically turn on WiFi if it was enabled before it was turned off. You do not need to turn off and on again in Comm Mangager.

Same here, I prefer the implementation now, you can leave WI FI on and it will only connect when you need it, not whenever it is range of a router.

That's not what happened on my device. I did try to open Opera after I turned on the phone (when wifi appeared to be disabled in the notification area) but it started connecting to 3G instead of wifi, eventhough wifi actually appeared to be enabled in Comm Manager.
My experiences with the official 6.5 ROM
I have been a WM-user for many years and now my way around the system.
With this ROM I have been through several reflashes and "install-test-restart-install-test-restart-reinstallations" on my unbranded Danish TP2/Rhodium.
+ Nice new IE
+ Nice HTC Sense UI
+ WM 6.5 is a fresh breeze: It is more finger friendly and more colour full than before)
- HTC Sense UI constantly lags
- Bug in "Detailed Power Details" Seems to reset itself so it is hard to keep a statistic of daily usage. Go to-> Settings->System->Power Options
- Spontaneous shutdowns -> Had three in one day, without even using the phone!? Had to remove cover and battery.
- Lag in TomTom got worse than in WM 6.1 (might be TomTom or HTCs fault).
- The keyboard icon on the soft button panel often disappaers and I have to restart the phone to get it back.
- Uses more memory. Idle usage is mostly between 75-80% and often even higher. This makes it difficult to really multitask with several open applications.
- Start menu seems sluggish and not smooth scrolling.
- Delayed sound notifications on text messages
- Multitasking is slooow
In general WM 6.5 seems slow and "laggy" compared to the "old" 6.1.
Yes, it's a "new" OS, but so much worse than 6.1? I don't get it....
HTC (and MS?), IMHO this is a bummer....I am for sure on my way back to 6.1

Thanks for the long review dude, I will not upgrade to WM6.5 when they release the update for TD2, WM6.1+SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 is good enough for me at the moment.

I'm on a Topaz and still waiting for our official WM6.5 ROM to be released (26th October is the date) and I wonder how fast and smooth the ROM is for you guys?

Neither of the words "fast" or "smooth" are appropriate for the official WM6.5 ROM on the TP2. "Slow", "sluggish" and "laggy" are more the sort of words I found myself using.
After 2 days of using 6.5, by the end of which I was ready to give up on the HTC and buy an iPhone, I went back to the official 6.1 ROM.
There isn't that much extra graphic flashiness in 6.5 - certainly not enough to justify the seriously adverse effect it has on responsiveness of the user interface. I'm wondering if this is a deliberate ploy by HTC to persuade TP2 owners who want 6.5 to upgrade to a new device...
wm 6.5 has problems but the problem about memory is just the HTC Sense item, HTC Manila in 6.1 was faster due to graphics... i think we do not need such quality in graphics (because that made the HTC Sense slowerr) i closed HTC Sense and added other today items and works much better than 6.1!! HTC is trying to get better today screen than the other WM phones, this makes it much better but slower . but, i think HTC and iphone have much differences. Whatever for me; Windows Mobile and HTC are the best!!
I flashed probably the best cooked WM6.5 ROM for Topaz and I saw no difference with HTC Sense on/off, it was same sluggishness with both.

On both WM6.1 and WM6.5, I hack the registry to turn off as much of the HTC customisation as possible, and HTC Sense is the first thing to go. Even with all the HTC additions switched off, WM6.5 itself uses 50% of the program memory - WM6.1 used less than 40%. The sluggishness is still there with the default Windows today screen and start menu on 6.5. It may well be worse with HTC Sense enabled, but disabling it does not make 6.5 on the TP2 anywhere near as fast and responsive as 6.1.
My positive experience with the official 6.5 ROM
i thought i had better post as i am obviously lucky, as my TP2 (UK unbranded) is working so much quicker in the 6.5 rom. slider is much quicker to respond with no lag, and the "grid" menu of programs is instamt on key press. I was impressed when first using. I used for a week and then installed Pocket Shield, expecting it to take a performance hit. But no, it is still working quicker than before. I then started to add a few programs, and as has been posted the memory usage does go to 80% from time to time, but I still have a quick device. what have i got that is different?
I will now start tweaking to give other improvements.
I had to post to give a balanced view.
Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that battery life on the TP2 is $hite after upgrading from WM6.1 to 6.5?
Using 6.1, I used to have Phone, Bluetooth and WiFi on all day at work, and get home and still have 60% batttery left.
Now, I have to turn off Bluetooth when it's not in use, and WiFi, and will be lucky to get home with more than 30% left.
Battery or unit hasn't been damaged or anything, and the only change was flashing the new WWE ROM through it.
I noticed an decrease in battery life too. That, the high memory usage, and the general feeling that the 6.5 ROM isn't as stable as the 6.1 ROM has made me flash back to WM6.1.
yup, same here.
Battery is dropping much faster, as well as higher mem usage.
Also the information tab of the power icon constantly says not applicable even though I have fully charged the unit numerous time already.
Yes, bettery life on my handset has been reduced. I've disabled all the push internet and removed a couple of the touch flo tabs to see if this will help. I think the new weather panel could be contributing.
i had the same not applicable issue, but yesterday i used the phone until battery was less than 10% and then charged it fully. now it's ok
Flashing back to 6.1?
Can you actually flash back to version 6.1? I thought that the upgrader wouldn't let you go back a version?
I do have the original HTC 6.1 ROM file and would do it, but I don't want to completely brick the unit.
The batttery info tab does the same on mine... so that's no good.
I've turned off all the push functions and the program quick-start cache and, at first, my memory availaibilty nearly doubled. However, it won't get back to those levels, even after a soft reset. I've tried Pocket Mechanic to clean out redundant RAM, dead process threads the lot... no joy.
There's other bugs too... when you rearrange the folders using Resco Explorer to drop them into logical Start Menu group folders, some still appear in the wrong group, even though they don't show in the directory listing... and that's WITH 'show hidden files' option to 'on'. e.g. HTC People icon, and Microsoft Mobile Online which stays on the main menu wherever you move it... it seems to make a copy of itself.
It's an odd little app anyway, as my online MS Live account doesn't show any activity to do with my mobile... so where my txt message backup has actually gone is anyone's guess?
I think overall, with HTC withdrawing the ROM from their own website, it's fair to say it's nowhere ready and far too buggy... and they are obviously not happy with it going out to public release.
If I can flash it back safely, then I'll do it.

Thought I had the 6.1. ROM, but it's not the full version... just an incremental.
Is there anyone on here that knows a secret location for the original HTC European WWE HTC 6.1 ROM? Signature panel shows what I had before.
I've tried a search and can only find cooked ones.
Thanks.

Is this the sort of thing you are looking for? It's version 1.19.401.1, but version .0 is also at the repository link below if you need it. I presume this is the full ROM.....
The roms can be found located at the XDA ROMS repository.
I hope it is okay to link from here?
I don't know about downgrading, sorry - i'm sure someone with more experience can help though.
Cheers
I think you can only downgrade if you have hardspl on your phone.

Nope, I upgraded from the stock WM6.1 to WM6.5, and then "downgraded" to WM6.1 again using the RUU from HTC; no HardSPL involved there.
