Iulian has it in the Core kitchen. I tried it and it seemed to work, but I don't have BB service to test it out.
I'm running the modified for bbconnect/goodlink BlackMajik with bbconnect 4.0.0.67. It's been working fine for the past 2 weeks or so.

bbc wont work on the latest 17944 builds... you need to use the 17745 WM6 build...

I too am running this and it seems to work pretty well. Does anyone know how or what it is going to take to get bbconnect running on the latest builds. I know something to do with hex editing or some such black magic! I'd really like to see someone make an idiot proof bb connect of vp3g's upcoming 3.0 release...
Me too.....

Works fine on my 8525. I synch email, appointments, and contacts. I'm not sure if it's the latest Black ROM's, the newer radios, or increased BB synchronization (at 3G), but my battery is barely lasting the day.
There are details on the universal forums about hacking the Hex values in order to get the version numbers to change.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294218
I have just loaded the official Dopod release 5.2.1437 (17944.0.3.1) but finding an changing the version numbers is at the edge of my understanding. I'm willing to give it a go but I am not keen to brick my jasjam.
Anyone want to provide some pointers?

all of the above :-( 8 - 10 hours max. disable 3G - start - settings - phone -gsm. will last for 24+ hours. BB have to stay connected 24x7. breaks all other connections unless u suspend bbc.
I can confirm that running BBC4.0 w WM5 and UMTS I only get about 36hrs from the battery. Less if I use the phone for calls alot.
But I would still appreciate anyone that could take the CustomRUU ROM and hack the version number back.
So would all the BBC users I suspect!

Ayup. Don't care about the battery life. Somewhere in those 36 hours I sleep and plug the phone in....
Elf's Latest ROM also has a Blackberry Connect version I have been using for the past few weeks with hardly any issues. Of course there is the need to suspend services to do more network related media things, as mentioned above, but I have been prompted to suspend Bb Services while using it and when done the service eventually restarts.
I've also found that using the Blackberry Browser works better than IE. It's one of the benefits of Bb Connect 4
Can you provide a link to 'Elf's latest ROM'. Sorry to sound n00bish but I am seeing ROMs posted under the various names but ppl refer to them via a wide and varied assortment of pseudonyms.

what about the good news you mentioned ? was that a temp black out / wrong device ? So should I hex the new Dopod/ATT to 5.2.1238 Build 17745.0.2.3 ? TIA
OK guys, here's my ten bobs worth.
Have tried BBC 4 on all of the recent black ROMS (that have the Hex edit hack) and whilst it works well, I also see the battery drain issue. Also noticed that as soon as I installed BBC4, the performance was s-l-o-w-e-r until I ran something (e.g. settings and then tabbed personal-systems-connection, etc.). Put another way, the Hermes lost it's responsiveness and only seemed to pick it up a little through use.
Just recently stuck BBC4 and then reverted back to 2 on vp3G's WM6 v3.0 ROM (BBC hacked) and the difference is massive. the responsiveness is back and I don't have the pain in the ar$e security settings. Maybe someone much more technical can shed some light on this - all I know is V4 is ****e and V2 flies

Hi,
I am reading carefully all post about new ACU 3 roms - those created by Ivan and by Jwrightmcps. I am quite tempted to upgrade to one of those but I would like to ask some of You who tried those roms to share some basic advantages those new roms have over old ones.
I mean I need my Universal mainly for work - its not a toy for me so I cannot accept reboots and radio dropouts.
I am now satisfied with my present rom (newest O2) but sometime radio hungs up. I dont have any problem with speed and I dont care about push mail much.
Only stability is my main concern.
Can You share some of Your thoughts about it?
best regards,
Piotr

Piotr,
I am using the i-mate AKU 3.2 ROM since a week, and I have no issue with it. Fast and reliable, I can recommend you to use this one.
Hi,
I have the Orange version M5000 and havent upgraded since I had it!!
I'm well behind on ROM upgrades but the device is perfect for me. Loads of apps on it, plenty of surfing, streaming, listening to music, games. Don't to do a ROM upgrade just for push mail which at this time I have no need. Some people have reported less battery, more freezes after upgrade
Currently ROM 1.13, Radio:1.03
So there you go 2 very different answers - I would wait for further responses!!
Matt
you shld try the newer rom as it is faster than before
If you have a problem with radio hang ups, I would change the radio part and leave the CE and Ext ROM. Especially because you rely on it so heavily.
Don't upgrade to 3 yet
I have a Wizard currently running Shogun's 2.26 ROM I switched to it after running the 3.2 for about a week. It was a lot faster and there were many features I liked about it but when browsing the internet it was consistantly locking up causing me to ultimatly downgrade until a more stable version is released.

I have been running black2.0 and its great! Quickly got donations after only a day of usage. No resets required @ all. There has been no lock-ups yet. I have had it on my phone since it was released
P.S. Flashing has become very addictive!!! Anyone know what to do with the MONKEY...LOL
Definitely LVSW all version - the most professional release around.
So far the only OS so far that has supported all of my programs properly, as well as VoIP and other enhancements is Black 2.0.
Dutty's WM6 comes close, but I haven't been able to get VoIP working with it properly yet.
As for the LVSW editions. I installed his first release and quite liked it, I've been wary about flashing the more recent versions however after the white screen issues. (I'm sure its been resolved by now though.)
Running a custom version of black 2.0 myself
all are good!
all versions run good, the difrence is mainly the add ons.

I have to disagree. Go into the thread and read the user experiences. It's heavily "bugged".
1. Dialer without buttons (will appear for a while after soft reset)
2. Explorer when launched hangs the device up (soft reset necessary)
3. connecting to 3g/gprs the device blocks (soft reset necessary)
IE is completely unusable, and even if you use opera, you still can't get gprs. Ans that us with all 3 versions. I tried them all, and now back to LVSW (08-04)
Dutty knows this and has promised a revision soon. My vote goes currently for LVSW.
I've only tried the black Black and the latest LVSW, but my vote goes to LVSW.
right now i'd go with black. i've flashed all of kyphur's public ones, lswv 3-23 and all the black flavors. been happiest with 2.0 but can't wait for xda live 0.3
I would have to vote for Black 2.0 and XDA Live .30. These are by far the most stable for the apps that I run. I have run pretty much the full suite of SPB software on both without any problems.
I keep switching back and forth as I can't decide which I like better.
used only BLACK. never had to think of trying the others...

I've been using Black (and currently 3.01) but am looking at moving on. Who can give me advise on the pros and cons between Dymond and the LVSW?
If you're concerned about stability, I'd go with vp3G's version of the LVSW ROM. It's the one I keep going back to, and it has the Cingular customization already done. It's excellent work. In my testing I've found Dymond to be fairly unstable.
That is probably my biggest concern, and the reason I left the factory ROM. I'm kind of leaning the LVSW way but want to make sure I'm not passing up something good with Black Dymond. I"m starting to get tired repeatedly setting up my device with all my programs after I move to a new ROM.

speed, stability and the latest RTM Rom (not a MS dogfood rom) available. please see the threads over at 4wm for your self.
Black Dymond has been beta, RC1 and RC2 tested by a user group. Any issues experienced will be isolated based on 3rd party applications. Try it and see for yourself.
If someone posts negative feedback by all means please state what went wrong etc over at 4wm so notes can be taken.

I am also interested to hear what kind of 'testing' you did.
Dymond is Actually Rock-Solid.
A quick point about "dogfood" since its been spun up with a somewhat bad connotation here.
M$ employees run the latest and greatest software from the development groups. They call it "eating their own dogfood". Its a term of endearment on the M$ campus. Every major M$ developer/presenter I spoke with at MEDC this year was running "dogfood" on their device. Generally, "dogfood" is a few point releases in advance of what gets sent to the masses.
Good or bad, buggy or not. You folks decide.
I'm happy to run "dogfood" on my TyTN. Nobody else has it. Case in point: check the Kaiser thread.

Could not agree more! vp3G's LVSW Re-Cooked version is the "Best Rom by far" very fast and very stable...
Black Dymond is the best Rom.....
I am using black 3.5 since yesterday and so far it has treated me well. I don't see any stability issues.
I have installed some spb programs like weather and some games and the ROM rocks.
I have been on black 2.5 before and that was stable as well. However dymond is noticeably much faster.
I have not tried any other ROMS besides these 2 so I cannot say which one I would favor over the other. I like black and sticking with for now.
I recently flashed the vp3G ROM after using Black 2.5 for about a month. Black 2.5 treated me very well, however I am happier with the vp3G (LSVW derivative). It is much faster and more polished than the Black 2.5 I was using(because it is newer, I suppose). I have been very excted about the 3.xx versions of Black but have yet to try them until I read through all the threads to see if it is a fit for me (3.0/3.1 didn't seem to be the right move). For now, vp3G/LSVW is an excellent ROM for me.
I'm running SPB Diary, MS VC 1.6, VOIP, IM+, SKTools, DinarSoft HandySwitcher, MOBITV, SettingSavior .94, and a bunch of other stuff. No problems AT ALL to report. Program Memory stays solid, device never freezes, and battery lasts the longest.
Hope this helps...
Black Dymond with C-Start : experiencing sync problem
Using Balck Dymond for 12h. Looks quite stable, not to mention the style. Thanks JJ
All functions work well (haven't tested 3G - China not deploying it yet ).
Most impressive is the performance of WiFi (compared to Black 3.01 and WM Hermes QS Edition) - power settings shoul be on "Best Performance", otherwise do not connects even putting the device next to BS
Found some conflict betwen C-Start and embodied input - haven't explored the issue yet.
Issue with synchronization: When the ROM was "virging" no problem synchronizing. Suspect installing C-Start, after the system runs for some time, there is some software conflict. Have followed all ActiveSync 4.5 troubleshooting advice, but looks like the issue is in the device. Next few days will try to install different Chinese characters software - hope it will work!
-- The same issue had with Black 3.1 + C-Start; the difference is that with Black 3.01 was able to etsablish connection between the PPC and the PC, was able to "browse" the PPC but no sync; with Dymond no connection at all
Hope will figure out some way arround with the Chinese characters

Heh... I think some folks are wishing this "dogfood" came from Menu Foods rather than M$.
Not to mention anyone who's been in IT for any length of time knows a "shipping" version doesn't necessarily equate to a "good" version (can we all say Windows ME?). C'mon, I know y'all didn't just fall off the turnip truck.
I think vp3g rom is by far the best. I ve been playing with this rom since it 1st came out and i must say its Very stable, very BIG storage, very responsive, and the tie in of the cingular settings with this rom adds close to a perfect rom! My only gripe with lsvw rom base is "esmertec java" Opera mini sucks with it! But otherwise a great rom!

I already posted it on your site.
Out of the box, within 30 mins of use, your ROM was freezing up on me several times. I use no 3rd party applications, aside from Pimp My Black (which may have been the problem). I did not see the quirkiness in other ROMs that I saw in Dymond. I've reviewed many ROMs, including your original Black 2.x and 3.x series, and did not have the same polished experience I see in LVSW's base. I think your 2.5 ROM was the best to date in terms of reliability.

It's given me no hassles at all, aside from the WLAN problem when using WPA2 pre-shared key, which seems to be a problem in a few recent ROMs (Faria's being the exception here). It has the Cingular customization already done, and includes what I need and not what I don't need. I also like the inclusion of a working X-button. No additional CABs to install.

Well then,
Maybe you should have choose the word "Tried" rather saying something like 'in my "Testing" I found it to unstable.'
You tried it, you didn't actually do any 'testing.'
I was involved in the 'beta' and RC1, and still using it loaded full of apps, and there is NO instability at all.
cant say much about the others but...
I am running Dymond and no stability issues what s ever were detected unless:
You add on HTC X (doesn't matter what version - both Sucks) use alternatives like handyswitcher or others.
This is the ROM I had the longest uptime before SR!
I am running Pushmail (more than 200 email per day) with sms activity fairly high as well as phone calls that could probably fry my ... and still stability is not an issue.
only issue i am wondering about these days is what Radio Version is the best to work with...
I have actually found the same issues with every WM6 rom I have tried to date. I have loaded all of Kyphurs, a couple of LVSW's and Black 2.01 onwards.
I think everyone here knows that actual problems stem from third party apps and/or personal set up and the roms get blamed for the problems.
I also think we all know that a lot of people fall into the two main camps and will argue their rom is better than the other one.
I am on Dymond and havn't had a soft reset for the two days its been on my device - which for a cooked rom I reckon is pretty damn good - but I reckon from what I have read LVSW's latest is probably ok too...
You pays your money and you takes your choice --- oh except you dont pay any money - ITS FREE!
With so many ROMS up there and so many complications caused by different software, tweaks, etc., I used to test the stability of the ROMS like this:
Remove MicroSD card, fully charged. Backup PIM data with SPB backup.
Flash the new ROM.
Set datetime, regional stuff, Restore PIM data.
Set the phone to use GSM (2G) only.
Use the phone for 2 days without installing any 3rd party software and without the MicroSD card.
By use the phone I mean only voice call and SMS only. That's what I do with the phone for 80% of the time.
So far, only LVSW's latest ROM (June 16) can function properly in 2 days without hang or sleep of death.
I know it's not scientific nor comprehensive, I didn't test all the functions, .....
But that's the way I want my phone, simply WORK for voice and SMS first. Other stuff are value-added things, and I test their functions only after the ROM passed my 2-day test.

Custel: 1.2, 1.3, 2.5
Dutty: WM6 Pro FULL.

Stephen,
Can you be more specific as to what happened with the phones that didn't pass your test? (hang, sleep of death, etc.) What happened with the latest version WM5 rom of your provider? Who is your provider & what level of service do you have?
What radio version are you using for each rom?
I've used every rom you mention plus others & no problems with basic functions.
For your future tests, you may consider adding some additional steps:
1. After setting up phone each time, do a complete shut down (hold pwr button until dialog appears to select OFF) & then power ON from this totally OFF point.
2. As a control, return to wm5 between each test.
3. Delete any files on SD card (between tests) that are created automatically (e.g. WMDRM, Windows, etc..) depending on how you use card.
In your tests here, did you return to WM5 rom between each rom you tried? This is very important (& time consuming, I realize) to do in such a test. For any conclusions to be drawn (without being unfair to various rom cookers with arbitrary listings in order of stability), we need more info & a protocol that includes controls.
Thanks for contributing this report, as every little bit helps, but please give us more details.

I just keep things simple. I only look at system hang and sleep of death. My latest WM5 ROM (Dopod HK Traditional Chinese) sucks. That's why there's no point of using it as a control for comparing with the wonderful WM6 ROMs.

Yes, I know I should be more sensitive as to drawing up any listing that might be unfair to the great ROM cooker here. I do mention it's just my own experience, yet I think I better not do any listing.
Giving more details about protocols, radios, carrier info., etc. is a good idea that make tests scientific, but I just want to do it quick and make things simple. It's difficult to flash back and forth a few times to just test one particular ROM, not to mention their combinations with different radios.
That's why I use a simple 2-day test for each ROM. And you know, a few ROMS sometimes coming out at the same day. Woo... Lucky us.

Do we really have to slap on somebody's face in every thread? Can we be nice to each other (before everyone else left the forum)?
Stephen,
Thanks for your reply to my post & revealing your provider & phone in another. What Radio ver are you using? Have you tried more than 1 version? In your testing, I'd suggest you stay with only one version.
Your provider in Hong Kong gives you access to very high HSDPA speeds, not available many places yet. That's cool.

Thank you for your comment. I always stay with radio 1.40. Smartone Vodafone in Hong Kong is quite good. However, full speed HSPDA unlimited usage costs around US$60 a month. That's quite pricy for casual users.
I've been using JJ's Shadow since it came out and I've had to reset fewer times then with the OEM rom. And I think its the third party software that I'm running that makes it lock up. I think one of the things that might help is to do a factory reset before installing ... then reseting after the install, making sure everything is working before you start installing the next option/software (ex. radio upgrade/programs/etc)
And always having the latest bootloader installed is always a must.
A friend of mine called Cingular about always needing to reset because of it locking up and they said that was normal.

I went to the imate website and no release for this that I could find.
Could you provide more details like when, where, how....
Screen shots, customisations, what is installed, memory and storage availability.

I couldn't find it on their site either - but I installed this and it is indeed an official Imate Telstra WM6 Pro rom. It's very fast too.

Agreed. I installed the New radio out of it, and thats going strong, but i havent tested the full rom.
A SUPER DUPER Rom From Imate & Telstra
A super fine Rom without any call dropouts or hangs. Newest radio delivers optimum performance in connectivity and speed , just the ROM you are looking for ! Though the storage is less ( just 33.73MB ) but on deleting some unwanted games and programs you can push up storage. The details of ROM are : Windows Mobile6 Pro build 18125.0.4.2 ; Rom version 3.62.305.5
Rom date : 6th Nov 2007 ; Radio version : 1.54.30.10 ; Ext Rom : 3.62.305.116. I have been testing the ROM since last 2 Days and found it to be more superior than those cooked ones . It also contains the latest version of MS mobile Office 2007. It also has PV player for razor sharp video playback. Overall who ever has discovered this ROM must be a perfomance freak and not only applications freak.
Great job by sharing this fine ROM !!!!! Also Imate customers can upgrade to this ROM alongwith other users of Hermes 100 series ppcs.
So ugly, it has to be a genuine Telstra upgrade
Installed the new Telstra ROM and it does appear to be official except that it was so boring compared to cooked ROMs I have used from Custel and Black.
My evening got a lot more interesting after I flashed Schapps latest release over the top of the ugly Telstra one.
Of interest was a Telstra 5.5 cab in the extended ROM. Now that it's erased, silly me, I would like to know how to extract it from the installer to share.
i'm also in Australia and want to know more about this ROM. Does anyone know anything......?
I am installing new rom now will have a bit of a play and see how it goes
dont install this if you are in UK,its has weak signal reception and also often disconnect call half way through.now switch back to 1.47

..hey nothing strange there.. caxio does work his magic all the time to bring us here the latest of the stock ROMs available all the time...
Have installed, and it seems stable and quick.
Note if you're not with Telstra (Australia) you'll probably need to change the band settings (GSM 900/1800 and UMTS 850).
I liked the Black roms, except I never got bluetooth issues resolved and it'd crash when answering calls via car kit. I stuck with TNT for a while as bluetooth worked fine, but unhappy it'd randomly crash on me every few days. Not good for a phone used for after-hours support. Most other ROMs would drop ActiveSync connection after just 10 minutes.
So far so good on this one, will add the (very few) apps I'm missing and see how it survives over the week.
I think im going to try and strip some of the stuff out of it, and see how it goes.
So far so good though. Seems nice and quick, stable and good phone connectivity.
I installed this yesterday and so far it's been great.
As others have said, not a lot of storage after installation (with my programs all installed I'm down to about 17 mb free).
Radio seems really good, however if you're in a fringe area it will chew your battery up. In CBD battery usage is very similar to 1.47.
I'm thinking of re-flashing this one and soft-resetting prior to the customisation (which is where most of the bloat comes from). This should improve the memory situation somewhat and as all the customisation cabs are on extented memory I can pick only the ones I need.
