Hi people,
I've got the Vodaphone V1640 and I hate it
My firmware is Rom 1.13.62 WWE
Basically is there a newer version out? Which hopefull fixes the 100's of bugs in the dam thing!
Mark.
Hi Mark (and all)
I hope you dont mind me jumping in here i have an xda exec but i am using a voda sim in it, what sort of problems are you getting?
Im also sorry i cant help with your problem directly (bit new to these things) and seem to be having tons of problems too. Been thinking about getting the voda version today but just seen your post. (rather not waste too much money)
I believe you can switch your firmware to that of another provider eg o2 Orange i-mate Qtek etc
Search the forums and the Wiki for more info
Is there a chance you can take a photo of the Bootup screen after you do a reset and upload it on here?
Thanks
Can't take a pic, but this was on the bootup screen, with vodaphone logo behind it.
r 1.04.10
g 42.37.P8
d 1. 13.62 WWE
Also I can't get my laptop to recognise the device, it comes up "unknown device" anyone got any drivers? I've got the 2 cd's from Vodaphone but windows xp says there is no drivers on them
Actually it was the Vodafone Logo I was interested in. LOL
It seems to me that you are very new to this whole thing; correct me if I am wrong.
You need to install Activesync 4.x in order to connect the VPA. This should be on the CD they provided you or you can download it at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...012-8793-D2D180A42DFA&displaylang=en#filelist
Hope that helps
Cya
Its a grey logo with the vodafone text and an oulined globe in the background, does that help?
Also I've done the Activsync bit on a few PC's but still get the same error when I connect the device via USB.
"USB Device Not Recognized"
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.
Try to disable antivirus and antispyware priograms before running AcitiveSync. It helped for me.
Hi
I also have a Vodafone V1640 with
rom 1.13.62,
radio 1.04.10
extended rom 1.13.189
Why is there no updates from Vodafone? All the other UK providers seem to have ROMS in the 1.30 range and radio in the 1.09 rane.
If I update the ROM but leave the extended rom will all my Vodafone settings and config be preserved? Is the extended rom the vodafone specific part?
Sorry for so many questions but I have been reading the forum for days now and am getting more confused by the day.
Sorry again one last question! What are the benifits of updating the radio to 1.09? Id this independent to the ROM and Ext Rom?
Thanks in advance
Dave
The Radio Rom is now at 1.11 me thinks. I'm using it and seeing better battery life and 3G reception - please note some people have been reporting the exact opposite lol
Yea, the extended ROM contains the Vodafone Settings......It's specific to each operator
It's possible to switch to ROMs provided by other operators but it voids your warranty (unless you downgrade back to the vodafone ROM, which they don't release for download lol)
cya
I hear on the grape vine that Vodafone are due to release a ROM in the next few weeks..... can anyone on here confirm or deny this?
Oh, still can't connect to my PC I've even tried 2 other PCs.... think mines a dud
Guys
Vodafone HAS released a new ROM (1.30.194). You can download it from
http://s131209249.online.de/vodafone_software/updates/v1640/vf-uk_v1640_aku2_v130194_wwe_ship.exe
I am downloading it now. If successful, I will upload it on xda-developers's FTP site.
Have fun.
does it work ok m8?
Is it the uk version?
Im a little nervous as its a work phone and cant do without it (ie if it knackers it up) but also need to update it to hopefully sort bugs out.
Update
Also does anyone have a USB driver for this phone? It's listed as unknown device on my PC, and their is no drivers on the disk I have, and Activesync 4.1 does not fin it either. I've tried everything, so if anyone has a working driver I would appreciate you uploading it for me
Then I can apply this update
It works!
The Vodafone update does work, but only time will tell regarding the battery life and other tweaks. Despite being on the vodafone.de site it is the standard English version and was specifically recommended to me by Vodafone UK.
Regarding the USB driver issue - there is nothing more that you need, it sounds like you need to scan some threads for debugging USB connectivity. Are you tyring to run through a USB hub? Generally accepted as a bad idea.

As far as I know the V1.20 Rom Range was for BB Connect
The AKU 2 Stuff would be for M$ Push Mail etc
Apparantly they cannot work side by side
I am interested to see whether Mobile TV works !!!

On my Notebok I get the same error message
Plus the PDA in Switch it off and switch it on
Then your NorteBook will Pick up the right driver and install it
Also recommeded you get hold of beta 4.2 of (in)activesync
Cant wait for the Download to Finish !!!!!!
No still not working
Can someone go into the device manager on their PC and tell me the driver they are usings for the USB connection? Is it a vodafone one or a microsoft one? Also the details if you have them, also their might be an *.inf file on your PC, I think I need that
Much appreciated, tearing my hair out here!
When using the USB connection it is not a USB device but a Network Adapter:
Windows Mobile-based Device (# x)
Device type: Network adapaters
Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation
Driver provider: Microsoft Corporation
Driver date: 28/10/2005
Driver version: 5.1.2600.2781
Driver files:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\rndismpx.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\usb8023x.sys
This stuff should be installing from your ActiveSync 4.1 or 4.2beta.
Hope this helps!

Are you able to reach the bootloader mode (Light+Power+Reset)? This will be a dark screen which is rather difficult to read in poor lighting. On the top the word "Serial" will appear and at at the bottom you can see the bootloader version. if your bootloader version is 1 or below you may need to upgrade the bootloader to 1.1 or above. You will find threads describing the procedure. If you have a bootloader of 1.1 or above you can reflash with a new rom version. You may do this in the bootloader mode as you are unable to boot.
Alright I am to bootloader mode and yes ...my bootloader version is v1.01 so indeed i need to upgrade.Dang it!Thanks for the help.I have been slacking on the site since my upgrade before thanksgiving.

Sorry, I wrote Botloader 1.1 instread of 1.01. You need not upgrade the bootloader as you already have an updated version. Now without connecting the device open the active sync on the desktop pc. go to File/Connection setting and UNCHECK the allow USB setting check box. Now connect your device using the ORIGINAL cable in the bootloader mode. Check the screen. on the top the word 'Serial' will change to 'USB'. Now you are ready to upgrade. Please let us now the progress so that we can help if required.
I have fixed the problem. Thanks to all for the help.I actually screwed myself up by not connecting the usb cord directly to my computer.I had connected the cable through a usb hub.I know the do's and do not's ,just did not take the proper measures to insure a safe and secure upgrade. All is fixed now. Thanks for the memory refresher.

Hi
I just succeeded in flashing my austrian i780 with the UK version from the samsung site.
the updater finished flashing the boot and the pda part but said he was not able to flash the phone part... (I think because of vista x64 I use)
but thats not the problem actually cause the phone booted up normaly and I also could connect to my service provider (orange austria)
but now I think maybe I should use my XP latop with xp modem drivers to flash also the phone part...
my question is: should I do that? could it be that after flashing the phone part I can't use my austrian connection?
what data is in the phone part?
i'm happy that flashing to WM6.1 (pda part) worked so well and is now running fine so I dont want to risk my phone...
my versions are now:
PDA: i780PBVHK1
phone: i780CUHK2 (nothing was changed here - so its the original vers)

that's the right way (install before the modem drivers and activesync and let recognize your device from your pc)

W7 is just like any other windows!
u only have to instal drivers correctly!
Good luck

Yes it is.
HTC Flashing program doesn't rely on any drivers which means it is independent from what ever OS you use. It solely relies on you being able to create a ACTIVESYNC connection. Which means as long as you can make an ActiveSync Connection then you will be fine.
In Windows 7 and Windows Vista, ActiveSync is renamed to Windows Mobile Device Center, which requires a download from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx
If you are still worried you can do the other method of flashing which flashes the ROM/Radio from your device itself.
Windows 7 has a knack of downloading drivers for you, so just plug in your device and wait. Then if using MTTY follow the instructions in the thread for replacing the drivers and flashing.
Or you can just run the HTC ROM Upgrade utility and flash with the stock ROM first if it gets glichy
of course you have to run the flash tools as administrator (otherwise you get a connection error).

Just install HTC Sync (http://www.htc.com/de/support/content.aspx?id=6223) and you should have all drivers you need.
