Vodaphone v1640 - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

Hi people,
I've got the Vodaphone V1640 and I hate it
My firmware is Rom 1.13.62 WWE
Basically is there a newer version out? Which hopefull fixes the 100's of bugs in the dam thing!
Mark.

Hi Mark (and all)
I hope you dont mind me jumping in here i have an xda exec but i am using a voda sim in it, what sort of problems are you getting?
Im also sorry i cant help with your problem directly (bit new to these things) and seem to be having tons of problems too. Been thinking about getting the voda version today but just seen your post. (rather not waste too much money)

I believe you can switch your firmware to that of another provider eg o2 Orange i-mate Qtek etc
Search the forums and the Wiki for more info
Is there a chance you can take a photo of the Bootup screen after you do a reset and upload it on here?
Thanks

Can't take a pic, but this was on the bootup screen, with vodaphone logo behind it.
r 1.04.10
g 42.37.P8
d 1. 13.62 WWE
Also I can't get my laptop to recognise the device, it comes up "unknown device" anyone got any drivers? I've got the 2 cd's from Vodaphone but windows xp says there is no drivers on them

Actually it was the Vodafone Logo I was interested in. LOL
It seems to me that you are very new to this whole thing; correct me if I am wrong.
You need to install Activesync 4.x in order to connect the VPA. This should be on the CD they provided you or you can download it at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...012-8793-D2D180A42DFA&displaylang=en#filelist
Hope that helps
Cya

Its a grey logo with the vodafone text and an oulined globe in the background, does that help?
Also I've done the Activsync bit on a few PC's but still get the same error when I connect the device via USB.
"USB Device Not Recognized"
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.

Try to disable antivirus and antispyware priograms before running AcitiveSync. It helped for me.

Hi
I also have a Vodafone V1640 with
rom 1.13.62,
radio 1.04.10
extended rom 1.13.189
Why is there no updates from Vodafone? All the other UK providers seem to have ROMS in the 1.30 range and radio in the 1.09 rane.
If I update the ROM but leave the extended rom will all my Vodafone settings and config be preserved? Is the extended rom the vodafone specific part?
Sorry for so many questions but I have been reading the forum for days now and am getting more confused by the day.
Sorry again one last question! What are the benifits of updating the radio to 1.09? Id this independent to the ROM and Ext Rom?
Thanks in advance
Dave

The Radio Rom is now at 1.11 me thinks. I'm using it and seeing better battery life and 3G reception - please note some people have been reporting the exact opposite lol
Yea, the extended ROM contains the Vodafone Settings......It's specific to each operator
It's possible to switch to ROMs provided by other operators but it voids your warranty (unless you downgrade back to the vodafone ROM, which they don't release for download lol)
cya

I hear on the grape vine that Vodafone are due to release a ROM in the next few weeks..... can anyone on here confirm or deny this?
Oh, still can't connect to my PC I've even tried 2 other PCs.... think mines a dud

Guys
Vodafone HAS released a new ROM (1.30.194). You can download it from
http://s131209249.online.de/vodafone_software/updates/v1640/vf-uk_v1640_aku2_v130194_wwe_ship.exe
I am downloading it now. If successful, I will upload it on xda-developers's FTP site.
Have fun.

does it work ok m8?
Is it the uk version?
Im a little nervous as its a work phone and cant do without it (ie if it knackers it up) but also need to update it to hopefully sort bugs out.

Update
Also does anyone have a USB driver for this phone? It's listed as unknown device on my PC, and their is no drivers on the disk I have, and Activesync 4.1 does not fin it either. I've tried everything, so if anyone has a working driver I would appreciate you uploading it for me
Then I can apply this update

It works!
The Vodafone update does work, but only time will tell regarding the battery life and other tweaks. Despite being on the vodafone.de site it is the standard English version and was specifically recommended to me by Vodafone UK.
Regarding the USB driver issue - there is nothing more that you need, it sounds like you need to scan some threads for debugging USB connectivity. Are you tyring to run through a USB hub? Generally accepted as a bad idea.

As far as I know the V1.20 Rom Range was for BB Connect
The AKU 2 Stuff would be for M$ Push Mail etc
Apparantly they cannot work side by side
I am interested to see whether Mobile TV works !!!

On my Notebok I get the same error message
Plus the PDA in Switch it off and switch it on
Then your NorteBook will Pick up the right driver and install it
Also recommeded you get hold of beta 4.2 of (in)activesync
Cant wait for the Download to Finish !!!!!!

No still not working
Can someone go into the device manager on their PC and tell me the driver they are usings for the USB connection? Is it a vodafone one or a microsoft one? Also the details if you have them, also their might be an *.inf file on your PC, I think I need that
Much appreciated, tearing my hair out here!

When using the USB connection it is not a USB device but a Network Adapter:
Windows Mobile-based Device (# x)
Device type: Network adapaters
Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation
Driver provider: Microsoft Corporation
Driver date: 28/10/2005
Driver version: 5.1.2600.2781
Driver files:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\rndismpx.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\usb8023x.sys
This stuff should be installing from your ActiveSync 4.1 or 4.2beta.
Hope this helps!

Are you able to reach the bootloader mode (Light+Power+Reset)? This will be a dark screen which is rather difficult to read in poor lighting. On the top the word "Serial" will appear and at at the bottom you can see the bootloader version. if your bootloader version is 1 or below you may need to upgrade the bootloader to 1.1 or above. You will find threads describing the procedure. If you have a bootloader of 1.1 or above you can reflash with a new rom version. You may do this in the bootloader mode as you are unable to boot.
Alright I am to bootloader mode and yes ...my bootloader version is v1.01 so indeed i need to upgrade.Dang it!Thanks for the help.I have been slacking on the site since my upgrade before thanksgiving.

Sorry, I wrote Botloader 1.1 instread of 1.01. You need not upgrade the bootloader as you already have an updated version. Now without connecting the device open the active sync on the desktop pc. go to File/Connection setting and UNCHECK the allow USB setting check box. Now connect your device using the ORIGINAL cable in the bootloader mode. Check the screen. on the top the word 'Serial' will change to 'USB'. Now you are ready to upgrade. Please let us now the progress so that we can help if required.
I have fixed the problem. Thanks to all for the help.I actually screwed myself up by not connecting the usb cord directly to my computer.I had connected the cable through a usb hub.I know the do's and do not's ,just did not take the proper measures to insure a safe and secure upgrade. All is fixed now. Thanks for the memory refresher.

No Service

Hi All,
last friday I upgraded my Hermes to Black 2.0. Everything was working fine. This week I'm in Morroco for my job (I normally live in France) and I can't register to any phone network. I tried automatic network selection, nothing. I tried manual selection, I can find the network (i.e MEDITEL) but I can't register to the network ( I get an error message saying that registration could not be applied through the network). I tried several ROM, to no avail.
My current configuration is :
ROM : Hermes WWE 3.24.04
Radio : 1.40.30.00
SPL : 1.40 Oli
Sim : unlocked
Can anybody help me please ? Because for the moment, I'm blocked in Morroco without phone !
Thanks in advance
have you tried calling your Service Provider?? and how did you manage to get the latest version of Radio ROM as it was only released today?
I didn't contact my provider because my colleagues have the same provider and have no issues. As I said before, I tried several things to fix the issue, updating Radio among them. I downloaded 1.40 version this afternoon.
have you tried changing the band to GSM only?
I also tried that, but I couldn't complete the operation. Each time I got an error message saying that the settings could not be applied. I'm currently in the process of of downgrading to a WM5 ROM to see if the issue is still here.

downgrading your OS wont make a difference... you need to downgrade your Radio... try downgrading to 1.38.30.10 using SSPL and let us know....
sounds like your Radio might be corrupt...

You're right, downgrading to wm5 didn't change anything....not did the radio downgrade to 1.38.
Tomorrow (it's 12. AM in Casablanca) I will try my SIM in others phones and try other SIMs in my phone. I will let you know.
The good news is that Black 2.0 doesn't seem to be at fault in this issue.
Thanks for your interest.
it's fixed
I have good news ! I tried several SIMs cards today on my phone, and I was able to join the network with each of them. I put back my own SIM card (after cleaning it methodically), and I have been able to connect. So my issue is now solved, and I can sill enjoy Black 2.0
walshieau, thank you for your comments, it put me in the right tracks

Wi-Fi disappeared + need new English ROM

Peculiar situation.
I have the Softbank version of the Dopod C730 in black with latest ROM in chinese (1.16.708.7) and have been using it for a good 3-4 days now. Everything worked swell then the Wifi went yesterday, did a hard reset and fixed the problem. Today same thing, except this time hard reset did nothing. At first I still had Wifi in comm manager but it was saying "Drivers Not Loaded" and wouldnt fire up the wlan. Then after a couple soft resets the WLAN option totally disappeared from comm manager and main screen. I unlocked the CID lock on the phone, and loaded the previous ROM in English (which worked without a hitch)and It loaded WLAN drivers for a second then died...although now I do have WLAN option in Comm manager again.
Cant get into the dopod site with my S/N to download the 1.16.708.7 ROM (when i registered without a device I couldnt get downloads at all just manuals) and I noticed the wiki only has the chinese version. If anyone has this rom they could send me or upload it in English id appreciate that.
But the big question is, how do I ressurect my WLAN and is there a CAB driver for it?
Just as a follow up. Went back to the original newest Asian ROM from the older English based one and now the WLAN works (albeit drops connections worse than before) Thats after I wiped out all the Tmobile WAP/MMS settings, programs and oh yea had to have the CID unlock.
Such a stupid situation, I dont understand how the whole WLAN card can just drop out of comm manager and drivers not load and it takes 2 ROM flashes to revive it.
Anyone have the latest ROM in English?

Did it ever occure to you to do a search? or to check other threads?
Cavalier ROMS are bilingual (C730 chinese/english, Softbank japanese/english).
So, if you have CID unlocked your device you can put C730 ROM from FTP to your device.
Cheers
What did you use to CID unlock your unit?

Which is what I did. The 2 previous ROMs from Dopod were in English by default, so I figured if the 1.16.708.7 came default in Chinese there was an English one. Didnt realize that one was bilingual also.

BTW, Anyone know where I can find the BB Connect download for the C730 other than their site (which i cant register with the softbank) I cant seem to find this anywhere. And if someone can download for me id appreciate it...

Hello. Where did you pay for your CID unlock? I've searched and no one seem to have a CID unlock solution for the Cavalier. I bought a used dopod C730 that doesn't have the WLAN option in Comm Manager although the box and manual says I'm supposed to have it. I have tried reloading the original ROM included in the Dopod disc with no success. I was going to try to load a different ROM but kept getting errors due to it being CID locked.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

I've checked the Wiki over and over regarding my issue. Unless my eyesight is giving out on me, I don't see anything that refers to my problem. I assume that my C730 is a Hong Kong version since it has CSL 1010 logo on it.
If you could please provide any special information regarding Hong Kong version C730, please do tell and share the info. I've researched about my problem until my eyes turned white and I could not find any solutions.
And yes, I've used the search function to no success. Also, I've tried the ROM found in the disc and at the Wiki and still no positive result for ressurecting my wifi.
Thank you.

Full Orange Debranding Guide Very easy

Hi guys girls sorry i took so long to get this guide up had to find a few things first well this is a guide if you want to debrand your phone from orange to original firmware simfree. This will also remove the boot logo and the motionblur crap this guide can also be used if you have damaged your device and cannot get it to boot or damaged firmware shall we.
STEP 1 Download usb drivers here below
http://developer.motorola.com/docstools/USB_Drivers/Handset_USB_Driver/?pubid=987654
STEP 2 Download the debranded Firmware here (note you can also use the uk one with motionblur its your choice for debranded use the RUTEM_U3_01.14.2 Central Europe
http://and-developers.com/sbf:ruth#bootloaders
STEP 3 Download RDSLite Latest is v4.5.3 here below
http://www.motorolafans.com/forums/a1200-applications/13457-rsdlite-download-here.html
STEP 4 Install the USB Drivers and the RDSLite program and reboot PC
STEP 5 Extract the firmware file you downloaded a while ago to c:\Program files\Motorola\RSDLite place the folder you extracted there.
STEP 6 Start the RSDite program now where it says filename press the select area and find the downloaded firmware in c:\Program files\Motorola\RSDLite and select the (sbf) file some details will apear on the right hand side.
STEP 7 Now power down your phone and press the up button on the dpad and press the power button for 4 seconds and release the power button only you should see a bootmenu displayed reading the boot vershion and a simple battrey check etc.Now plug in your usb cable it should start loading usb driver wait for it to finish and your ready you should see where it says (port type) your usb connected in RDS Lite this means your ready to flash.
STEP 8 Press the start button on the RDS Lite and just relax while your device gets flashed, debranded etc. you will see a progress status on the right hand side wait till it reaches 100% but please do not disconect it will reboot the phone automaticly and restart the phone. And just wait untill android comes up and fully running untill you disconnect it should read (PLEASE START PHONE MANUALY) on RDS Lite when this shows it is safe to unplug.
STEP 9 Hopefully you now have a debranded phone and or unbricked your phone if it all went wrong for you please read carfully word by word and try the procedure again thankyou and enjoy.
Wow! Thank you!
I haven't tried this yet, but I'd really like to get rid of the moroblur, since currently it is only taking up space.
Does it mean that maybe in the not too distant future we might have custom roms? That's really cool!
awesome to know, I'm currently thinking of getting this phone and the only thing really holding me back is the motoblur on it.

Noob inside
Hi there,
just bought the flipout (mainly because of his formfactor) and looking forward to have fun making the most of it. But, because I'm a noob, I have questions
Is your guide specific to Orange operator (mine is Bouygues - french one)?
What do you mean by "original firmware simfree"? That's motorola's implementation?
Last but most important question : does my questions make sense?
Kisses to all, receiving my flipout tomorrow
I flashed the UK rom as stated here and it bricked my flipout. I got 3 of them from AT&T for a penny each because of a 3 hour special. I had one to play around and i bricked it. Fresh install of windows 7, fresh downloads and fresh installs. No funny hardware or RAID configurations and nothing but new updates and essential software installed.
RSD went through the process and everything finished with an OK and PASS. When phone rebooted, it said "Critical Error" and thats it. it then reboots few more times and goes into Recovery Mode. I flashed it again using the Chinese w/ Moto Blur rom and the same thing. I figured by this point its either needing an actual US Rom or it's really done for. I downloaded the bootloader and flashed that with no problems. same error and same recovery screen. tried flashing the chinese rom again and same error on reboot. Perhaps the phone was just a bad phone and already was going to have problems. I've rooted/flashed about 50 android phones and never ran into one that got bricked. Just thought I'd post this up for others..

Perhaps the phone was just a bad phone and already was going to have problems. I've rooted/flashed about 50 android phones and never ran into one that got bricked. Just thought I'd post this up for others..

Probly cause of it being a us phone they work on a different band so thats probly the problem i would say you need the rom for your region this was a debranding guide for uk orange rom as stated anything else is not guarenteed.

Chinese Galaxy Y, how do I change the operating system?

Hi everyone,
Have just purchased a new Galaxy Y here in China and restored to original factory settings however everything is in Chinese which isn't a problem as I can change the language to English however all the default Google Apps are missing and replaced with Chinese equivalents it seems so I'm unable to use them.
So... how can I restore it to a version of Android something functional for me? I'm on mac os x lion with vmware for any windows apps I need and am computer literate enough to attempt anything like flashing a device / updating a rom but have no idea where to start with this. Have read some docs on Odin but they made little sense at first because I don't quite know what steps I need to take in order to carry out this task. I've found various Roms but these are India, Netherlands, Greece versions, does anyone know of a UK version?
Any pointers would help greatly, thanks in advance!
Update: Just came across http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465800 so am reading through here however I'm not sure which ROM to go for, the European pack work with sim cards in Asia?

first thing that the initial setup offers after full reset, is to change the language. It's the button on the the right hand side of the screen. if you press the green android, it's too late. then you must navigate to language setup by memory.

I've changed the language but it's a custom Chinese rom as China bans everything google so I need to get it on a normal UK Android setup or something, maybe the European pack from the aforementioned link?
Current versions as follows:
PDA: S5360ZCKK2
PHONE: S5360ZCKK2
CSC: S5360ZHKK2

Thank you for this, am just looking at Docky's stock roms now. Seems like the phone isn't locked to any specific network as accepts both Hong Kong and UK sim cards at the moment. I'm a little confused about setting the CSC and provider/region stuff after flashing it, basically I'm in Asia for the next 10 months and will have various sim cards from different countries and want them all to work. Possible do you think? Or will I have to flash to country specific firmware/csc relative to the sim card I'm inserting?

Well, Im in Asia country too. I tried Docky's Custom ROM which is based on XX which is European firmware and my phone works together with the SIM provider and network. So, the CSC is basically the language supported by your phone (based on my experience). Thus, Im sure you can use European firmware when you are in Asia country

Small world hehe I'm currently downloading S5360_XXLA2_OXXLA2_XXLA2_by_Doky.zip which seems to be the latest european multilingual build so hopefully that will do the trick. I'll let you know how I get on, thanks for the tips.

Cool. Cant wait to hear from you soon. Good luck
I think the simpliest way to solve this is to update its firmware via samsung kies, besides its the official update you can get and you'll be sure it'll be safe. Ive updated mine through this method and havent tried the ODIN thing. Good luck though

Woo hoooo I have a working phone, or should I say a phone which I can understand. It took a while because I couldn't find a decent internet connection where I was but having found one the process, following Doky's instructions, was painless - what a result! Thanks for your help!

Hi,
I really appreciate all the posting which is done on this site, and it has helped me many times (as I often act as the 'family' technician who can fix things).
But this time, I inherited a bricked Vietnamese Galaxy Young. The issue I have is that event though I installed ODIN in its most recent release, the phone in DOWNLOAD mode is not recognized on the 2 computers I usually use on other Samsung phones.
Is there an Asian-specific driver which needs to be used?
Alas, the phone was backed up using the CWM backup, but it refuses to boot into CWM (just hangs at logo). The only mode it boots into is Downlaod mode. But it need to be recognized correctly before Odin can do anything
Thanks for suggestions

make sure samsung usb drivers are installed - use rear usb ports not front ones and you can try a different usb cable (there is no specific regional driver just a generic samsung usb driver)
once in download mode connect usb cable to pc
push vol up on phone to start connection (wait a 30 secs in case drivers start installing)
open odin 3.07
if it is connected it will say com then a number in a coloured box under com:id on the left hand side
