Wm6 ofcourse, for the look & feel and performance. I just can't think of going back to wm5, like I can't go back to win3.1 from XP

It would appear that after the 8 votes there have been so far, WM6 has the edge. I'm patiently awaiting WM6 for my X50v and then I'll cast my vote in here too.

Okay, after playing around with WM6 for a while, it has earned my vote.
It took me some time to flash to wm6, given that there are several issues mentioned.. But i used it, seems like no big problems and my hermes becomes very speedy now..
My favorite version is... of course.... WM7. The next version is always better.

Oh, absolutely!
Waited a while to upgrade ROMs but love WM6 and can't go back to WM5, just like I can't go back to Win 95 from XP. WM6 is sleeker/faster, allows me to do more and I just love Windows Live and Windows Live Search.....
..........
As I only have WM5 now, I love it over PPC2003, dreaming for WM6 for the HX4700 then I can give a reasonable vote here...

I've waited a long time for WM6 for my Axim X50v, but the wait is over and it's pretty nice!

Now I would be very careful to make statement like this towards Micro$oft products. Lesson learned until now, better wait until they release some patches/upgrades to the new release, then it will be safe enough for anyone to migrate.
I've tried official WM6 from Dopod for my Dopod D810 (Trinity), yet I haven't found any significant nor drastical improvement, in speed, feature or functions.
Many things need improvement, but they just don't improve it. Things which has been run properly, they changed into something annoying. (e.g: default left softkey menu for Messaging, why would anyone wants it to be defaulted into "Delete", instead of "New" as in WM5?).
IMHO, if mostly only looks, better they named it WM5.1 or WM5SE (Second Edition), like when they release WM2003SE
Bottomline, WM6 is only marketing gimmick...

I agree in that calling it WM6 instead of simply releasing it as an updated WM5 probably would have made more sense. However, I don't completely agree with your last statement. Sure, MS wants to make money. So naturally they do as they've always done and just created a "new version" with the same backend code and (for the most part) just a new "pretty looking" GUI. However, the "performance increase" of WM6 can be seen on some devices. Yeah, maybe it's the same performace as before for most people, but it just looks like it's faster to those who had devices with a bad WM5 ROM. I for one know how crappy the WM5 ROMs were from Dell for the Axim X50v. Trust me, WM6 is a HUGE improvement for us X50v owners. But at the same time, if you had a good WM5 ROM (from a company that actually cared to support their products), then I can see where your argument is coming from.

That's why I said "better wait until the patches/upgrades on the new release are available before trying to migrate to new version".
WM5 so far has began to mature, there have been many upgrades/patches incorporated in the new version (AKU bla bla bla). As for my Trinity, my last official WM5 ROM has been very stable and speedy for my taste, with remarkably working GPS. I love my WM5 Trinity.
That's why I'm quite disappointed because despite the efforts spent on flashing my Trinity, I'm yet to find any noticeable improvements, except GUI. Even in GUI, I hate how M$ has changed the default softkeys for messaging. Small change, but VERY UNNECESSARY.
I guess M$ has just never changed...
I currently have the WM6 installed in my P525 and so far it is faster and prettier with other worthy upgrades. But I like the stability and maturity of WM2003SE in my Samsung i750. My vote would be WM7 when it comes out. Now from what I read, that would be a "real" upgrade.
Just thought I'd bring this poll back around one more time before I let it sink into the depths of this forum...

Here are the details of the new Windows Mobile 7 due to be released on Devices in 2009.
Seems that some of the new technology may require new hardware, but we will see if it's compatible with the Hermes.
Awesome !!!
Maybe a little too awesome. Something like this is just fine for tweakers like us, but something tells me that having to remember what all these different shakes and gestures mean is going to baffle everyday users.
That being said though, the scrollbars, pan arrows and zoom boxes are genuis.

Just a feeling I think that Hermes don't have enough RAM and ROM for this windows and processor may be to slow (or not)!
at least any wm6.1 around? Just waiting to see next wm6.1 on my hermes, WM7 is still far away ...
This is something that should be launched by Xmas 08 as 6.1 or 6.5. If Samsung can release a bespoke touch phone interface by this Xmas 07 (F700) - what the hell have M$ been playing at?
Sitting on the dubious laurels of WM spring to mind. The fact is that companies like Samsung (i600) and HTC (their touch software/hardware) have done about a million times more to keep WM usable than MS have done.
Remember 09 they will likely be competing with a 2nd or 3rd generation 3G iphone, probably App Unlocked in some ways, and probably Me-Too phones from all the Major phone makers.
Too little too late is my thought.
Another thought does this blog have a legit history of predictions?
yes
hope to have something before 2009

Windows Mobile 6.1 to be released on 1 April
(I Read Bink.nu daily so thats where I got the news from, Bink is truly the most credible MS news man in all of the Land)
Pocket-lint has learnt from sources close to the matter that Microsoft will announce the much-rumoured refresh to its mobile phone operating system, Windows Mobile, on 1 April 2008.
An improvement over Windows Mobile 6 released in February 2007 the new version, unsurprisingly named 6.1, will be a stop-gap measure to keep both consumers and industry happy until the launch of Windows Mobile 7.
Leaked screenshots of 6.1 have already done the rounds in the blogosphere, and show the system has been simplified with the screens displaying less mess than the Vista-inspired version 6.

1 April.
Hmmmmm.
Not to sound cynical but.........1 April.......
I am an ADMIN and I handle frontpage news at theHotfix.net so I do my research i have my sources and OBVIOUSLY I use other news sources, this seems legit, its NOT offical from MS, but a credible source from within MS says thats the date, I dunno, I posted it on my SITE
Hmm. So what do they know about the hard reset issue that nobody else does? April 1?
April 1st release date. Could be a foolish day!!

Yeah, I'm a bit confused by this "news". I've been running 6.1 for a while now (thanks to this forum), but for a while now if you bought a tytn2 from orange it'd come with 6.1. So in what way was it not already released a while back?

It is true, please don't call me a liar just because you haven't seen what I'm talking about. Maybe Orange are shipping leaked ROMs on their phones, or maybe they are a leak themselves. My brother has one, purchased direct from orange as an upgrade over a month ago, that came with 6.1 on it.
WM6.1 > HTC Hermes100/AT&T8525
Considering how bad my HTC/AT&T experience has been, I may bail out before HTC makes WM6.1 available for the AT&T 8525.
It took them nine months to come out with WM6 for my device.

I don't know why anyone is interested in the official WM6.1. I've had cooked versions of this for months. Same thing happened when WM6.0 was officially released. I tried it out and it was crap compared to the cooked versions.

Currently using Schaps WM6.1 Beta which doesn't hard reset every 5 mins, and chances are Official release will require a lot of reseting anyhow

Some of us see so many different versions out there and aren't sure which one to use.
I find my official 6.0 adequate, I'm not even sure what I'd look for in a 6.1.
I'd also want it to be completely stable.

TFLo3d
It's not as responsive as I see it in the youtube vids.
Seems to run flawlessly.
I notice a real slow down when I import contacts. I have quite a few.
and what is with the new versions of WM?
To the question : "WM6.5 or WM7 on diamond ?", the answer is "YEEES ! you will have WM6.1++ !!!"
I think it means we won't have them from HTC, as they probably reserve it for a brand new phone they'll try to sell us...
But XDA developpers are the bests, so i'm sure we can expect them to cook a nice WM7 Rom as soon as it will be available...
Let's hope WM7 will be able to run on our Diamonds. Can't wait till the release!
Not too sound too negative, but I mean WM6 kills the diamond - it makes it choke (cooked ROM's or not).
Hopefully that won't be the case for WM7. Because up to this point, I'm rooting Android all the way
This is pure speculation from all of us, since we're talking about an unreleased product. That said, Windows 7 beta seems a lot snappier than Vista (I know - doesn't say much) and slightly faster than XP. So, maybe WM7 will run faster than 6.1?
Some people have mentioned WM7, I highly doubt HTC will release 6.5 for the Diam/Raph/BlackS, never mind 7.
Good thing we have xda-devs, though I suspect that 7 will require new and diff. hardware in phones, such as multitouch.
how reliable is the news?
yea wm really sucks.. ms is really poor at innovation..
diamond doesnt have multi touch?
anyway been waiting for a new official rom for a damn long time.. was tempted to flash to a cooked rom.. so i guess can wait till jan for now to see what they offer..
Hopefully they resolve issues like memory leak.. and learn from the forums what the users really expect of the diamond and tf3d..
LOL when it be wm7 upgrade you ll have another **** phone from htc so what are you solving here i consider that due to ms is poor bastard* wm7 will be at 2010...just look to articles and news...

The guy interviewed is:
"Selskapets produktsjef for de nordiske og baltiske markedene, Christer Högström" ==> "HTC's Chief of Products for the nordic and baltic markets, Christer Högström"
So probably as reliable as it gets before the actual download is available.
Edit:
HTC actually got a bunch of questions regarding WM6.5 on current models, to sum up they're answers:
HTC will have to pay an upgrade license per device for 6.1 to 6.5, the details regarding this is not all worked out yet, so he couldn't answer if there would be released official 6.5 updates and if it would be free or a upgrade fee involved.
I suppose most/many of the hardcore users would be interested in upgrading if the fee vs gains is the right...
Don't hold your breath!
If HTC release an official 6.5 ROM upgrade for the Diamond, I will video myself eating my device and post it on YouTube for all to see! New OS means sales of NEW devices.... this makes good sense for businesses. Why offer an upgrade for a device someone has already bought when they can sell you a nice new device with the latest OS installed?
Thank goodness for XDA Developers, that's what I say! We will have our upgrade one way or another!

Making an upgrade available for some small fee wouldn't be that bad. Bussinesswise I understand your viewpoints but on the other hand, I buy my phone for 500EUR ($800 or something) I think for that price I can get some service. If I get bad service I wouldn't stay with HTC, but frequent updates will make me buy another one (or your operator will buy another one for you with ur contract), if that's 500EUR every 2 years I think they can be really happy.
Hello
How do you think that will issue an update for the HTC Diamond and Pro, which will include Windows Mobile 6.5? New versions of Diamond and Pro have the same processor, but 2 times more memory. The conference had used MS HTC Touch Pro 2, which is pretty good at handling inquired with WM6.5.
I do not know policy, HTC, so I ask you.
all,i think both Diamond and Pro will inclulde WM6.5.
No updates for current devices...
I think you'll find that HTC will not release official update for Diamond / Pro to WM6.5 - The new devices (Diamond 2, etc) will be released with WM6.1, but will get a free upgrade, when available, to WM6.5
So... the only way you're gonna get 6.5 on your Diamond is to use a cooked ROM from here. If I'm wrong, you can drag me naked through the streets behind a horse

Realy, I can?
Given that HTC is still selling Diamond and Touch Pro in many countries today, it is bad business decision for them not to provide updates to these phones as people would hesitate buying these models and would wait for Diamond 2 and Touch Pro 2. And it is always bad to the business if prospective customers hold their purchase decision as these customers may be lured to other phones in the meanwhile.

Unfortunately this is not the case... M$ are only allowing 6.5 on newer phones that have a 'Start' key and a 'Back' key specifically. Hence the 'slight upgrade' to the TD2 and TP2.
No phones currently have these hard keys. I believe HTC are releasing these updated models prior to 6.5 solely for this reason - to have a phone already out that can handle and take WindowsPhone 6.5 (it's Windows Phone now guys ). I also think that is why HTC are offering free 6.5 upgrades for those that purchase these devices.

I'm pretty sure "cooks" will figure out some other buttons to use for start & back ... don't worry we'll not only have 6.5, but we'll also have 6.5 running smoother than any possible official update from HTC.... just look at the current 6.1 roms!

Oh of course... I am running it on my diamond right now - I think it's faster than the 6.1 ROMS just quietly. Certainly opens Windows folder waaay quicker. Lacking a bit of polish and flashy-ness but more than good enough for daily use with some tweaks (and I added PointUI).
So no doubt we'll have it on our Diamonds for sure... And as you guys have said it's an obvious replacement for Start - Home key!
Just tryied out a 6.5 version on my Diamond.
Nothing so interesting:
Titanium interface instead of manila (vertical tabs instead of horizontal) not working well
Honeycomb menu is damn slow
Graphic (Mac like) scrollbars
Graphic (nice) context menu
As bilbo says "There and back again"...by now stai with 6.1 with some additional programs if you like.
