Modifying ActionMenu.dll? - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi all,
I was trying to modify the ActionMenu that pops up when you slide the querty out. This is on a HTC S740, but I suppose it would be the same for all HTC devices with a slide out keyboard. My intention was to edit it in a way that option nr. 3 (messenger) brings up a different messenger than WLMessenger, as I never use this one.
My findings so far are that the information to the links are stored in a dll called ActionMenu in the windows folder. I was able to open it with notepad, however editing the path for the messenger somehow broke the whole dll so ActionMenu won't pop up at all anymore when sliding the keyboard open. I also tried editing it with XN Resource Editor, but there nothing is displayed. So for now I am at my wits end.
Maybe someone else could help out here? Would truly be appreciated.
Regards,
.-ombre-.

beginner here looking to do some simple things

Hi,
I'm new to the forum and came here looking for a fix to rotate my WMP screen. I sometimes wonder if I should have ever upgraded to WM6. I haven't uploaded a registry editor or anything in fear of totaly destroying my phone. I know there are alot of little things that can be changed through the editor like reassigning keys and whatnot. I was just looking for a place to begin and maybe someone patient enough to help me through things. Thanks for reading.
You can try the last post here. I am not sure whether it works or not.
Don't I need to set up the registry editor to use that solution?
Yes......even if someone here wrote you a .reg file that you could just open from the phone to add the registry entry for you, you still need a registry program installed on the phone. Are you not wanting to have the program on your phone, not wanting to make the registry change yourself, or not willing to change the registry at all?

"Recently-used-programs"-List

Hello,
I am using a HTC P3300 (aka Artemis).
I recently updated it to the official HTC WM6 roms.
During the last days I have often looked into these forums to get some help for different things that I wanted to costumized, and I was happy to see that everything worked, so now I am giving you a hard one to solve.
In the start menu of WM6 is the so-called "Recent Programs"-List. I want to get rid of this list, unfortunately it is not as easy as it is in WindowsXP for example. I looked into the registry but I haven't found anything, but I am honest, I am not a registry-pro, perhaps I missed something.
Or is there a program able to to that? I don't want to do every day a cleanup.
To give you some motivation, until now (in WM5 and WM6) nobody could help me, except for the answer "it is impossible" , so I hope you guys will be up to it.
Thanks a lot in advance.
here you go...
instructions are in the zip file attached

HKCU>Software>Microsoft>SHELL>TaskSwitch>
You will need to clear/delete the entries under it one by one or delete the "TaskSwitch" folder and then perform a soft reset to load the changes in the registry. The TaskSwitch folder will be re-built upon performing a soft reset.
Thanks.
Just checking it if I understood correctly the solutions you have provided.
What you two are proposing above, is a cleanup that has to be done or will be done automatically when I start my P3300.
Is there no possibility to simply turn the list off, like in XP? So that WM6 will not create any shortcut after I launched a program? Then there would be no need to turn the P3300, just to empty the list.
Thanks again for your help.
Yes thats correct. If someone knows a way of turning it off please let us know
Update
I know this is an old thread.
But if anyone wants to know how to disable this on a smartphone..
These are specifically for a BlackJack II. But it should be similar accross the board.
There are two shell entries we need to focus on:
:MSStart - full start menu
:MSMRULauncher - recent programs list.
If we navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSMRULauncher
Edit the value for 0 to be "MSStart" instead of "MSMRULauncher"
Edit the value for 1 to be the same as the MSSTART key e.g. - "appman.exe -s BootApps :MSStart tpcutil.dll AMStart"
When you hit the start key on your smartphone device it should jump straight to the all programs menu,
better solution
while this may work, it ruins that mru thingy and turns it into a start menu...
more elegant solution is to
set string value "Command" to ":MSStart"
in key
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Shell\StartMenu
That will simply tell Windows that default action for calling start menu from shell is MSStart while keeping mru in working state... also, there are several other interesting values out there, like order, you can set specific order of items in start menu... wiping this value may result in alphabetical sorting of all items, including those "important" like messaging, settings and so on... hope it helps

Copy Paste help....

Im having trouble finding any threads containing this information, if i missed one please redirect me and thanks. I have two copy paste programs installed, the mortscript one and the smartoolkit one. For the life of me I cant firgure out how to use either, or if either only support copying from text boxes or from opera mini... If anyone can help i would very much apreciate it.
I know how to bring up the smartoolkit one but I cant figure out how to select text with it, or what the last four icons mean?

search for vitocopypaste its the easiest program to use. when your cursor is next to text just hold down the select silver button (if you are using a dash the middle silver button inside the dpad) and a menu will pop up asking copy all? select all? cut all? things like that.
really useful program
Vito don't seem to have the program available on website but pre-release is available so here it is.
Just place the .exe on phone and run, you could place an .ink in the Windows\Start Menu if you want and to stop the program run the .exe again.
Still not sure what use it is as we have copy and paste included in WM6.1 for messaging? And it doesn't work with mini...

Well the copy paste built into wm sucks, most text fields dont even include an edit menu to use it. Does anyone know what the last few icons on the smartools copy and paste mean? Does either the smartools or mortscript copy paste progrrams support highlighting text not in a text box? like From a web page or a program like irc? How about vito?
Vito copy paste not working on my T-mobile Dash
Hi everyone,
I just installed what I think is the pre-release version of Vito Copy Paste on my T-Mobile Dash. I found the download here:
http://www.smartphone-freeware.com/download-vito-copy-paste.html
I got it from there because the vito link I saw on a couple of pages did not work. (Perhaps they got rid of the program, for some mysterious reason?)
Anyway - I am pretty certain I installed it correctly - downloaded to my computer, transferred the .exe file to my phone, and opened it. (I know it is opened because when I click on it again, it tells me the program is running.)
But the whole "hold down the silver central button and a menu will appear" - does not work for me. In whatever text field I am in, whether it is in Word or an e-mail, it just does whatever the silver button normally does, like enter a line or a space. This is also true for the subject and to line of an e-mail, which are not multi-line text fields.
Does anybody know what's wrong?? And how can I remedy this??
Could it be because it is a pre-release version, and thus perhaps not the "real" or up-to-date version?
And if this can be remedied, is there a way you can copy and paste from webpages i.e. not text fields? (I am assuming "text fields" means places where you can enter text?)
Thank you!

[Resource] Adding More Programs in Program Tab

Hey guys, I've been messing around with my HD in the registry before doing a master reset and found how to add more programs to the programs tab (in case 24 is not enough for you)
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher
(once u navigate there, add new keys (starting with 24) and copy and paste the DispName, IconPath, IsReadOnly, and Path from one of the previous keys)
PS, sorry if this was already posted, I tried searching for it but couldn't find it.
Otherwise, enjoy
hey thats really cool I'm going to try that now!
Is it possible to also add more than one application tab?
Looks promising, but I must be doing something wrong. I do get the '+' icons to add new programs but when I add a program it doesn't show, not even ofter a soft reset. Will try a bit more...
edit: Noticed in the registry that it does change the key's Path and DispName entries but somehow it just won't show... Odd.
Did anybody get this working? It would be nice to have a few more spaces for programs.
No, the maximum of activ program is 24 "+" and not more aviable.
Jes, you can make more then 24 "+", but not activ with program`s.
Too bad, thanks. It still strikes me as odd, but I've had so many HTC /WM phones that by now 'odd' actually became the norm
Thanks again
sorry guys, I didn't actually try adding a program to the plus (as I didn't have the need, I just assumed it would work when I saw the '+'), but hey, who knows, maybe it's a two part process and we just have to find another registry which will allow us to assign the programs. Once again, sorry for not fully testing before posting. (and PS, from what I remember, the diamond only had 16 or 20 '+' for programs, so I'm thinking that there is indeed a way to assign more programs, though it might be not worth the trouble)

Keymap in some Java Applications

Ok guys,
I feel like a real idiot! I've just upgraded from 3VOLUTION ROM 3.00.112509 to 3.50.033010 and now when I use certain Java applications (not Opera Mini) I cant use the number keys to type letters. For example, when I try to type a "w" it comes out as a "1".
I think I may have had this problem when I first installed the 3.00.112509 ROM but I can't remember how I fixed it now and I really need to use these Java apps today!!
Can somebody help me please? I have already tried going to Start - Tools - Keymap Customizer - Set to UK Keyboard Layout and then rebooting but it didn't seem to work.
I have this one Java app that I can't log in to because my username and password both use letters that are on the number keys. I think before I may have had to cycle through the letters and numbers to type - so it was like the "1" key was "a/b/c/1" like a regular non-QWERTY phone. That would be fine, I just really need to enter the letters on the numeric keys.
Can anyone help me please? It's pretty urgent!
Same problem here
I managed to get around the problem by downloading versions of the Java apps that are meant for a different phone.
I did this by using the User Agent Switcher add-on in Firefox to fool certain websites into thinking that I am trying to download the Java app directly to a phone, such as a Sony Ericsson K750i. I then installed the downloaded .jar files successfully on my HTC S620. I can use the numeric keys to cycle through the letters I need to use. It's not an ideal solution but it works.
