hi everyone
ive seen quite a few busted/malfunctioning standby button posts but none have had any proper answer other than to open the device and clear the dust.
ive done exactly that- opened up the device, blew off all the dust. but no help.
on closer inspection i realised that the legs of the standby button had actually come OFF the circuit board.
now..i could probably take it into a mobile shop and have it fixed. but i wonder if there is any software out there that could possibly simulate a Standby Button press?
this would be especially useful for flashing ROMs..
i am sorry but i can't figure out, how it should work. if it was some sort of cab and you "pressed standby" once, how would you wake up the device, you can test that with pshutxp. plus, the program would of course not be accessable when turned of or for reset. when reflashing the device, the prog would be gone anyway. if there was a remote program to control via pc, same thing, when your device is in standby, there is no pc connection, and again, no way to do it, while not being sync with AS. so the only actual access to that function is the hardware button itself, so instead of trying to substitute it, you should probably go get it fixed or order spare parts, or an entirely new device, which is probably the cheapest.

thanks for the reply
well i just need to press it once :S
to flash a new ROM
after that i can then reinstall the app (if it exists) to do any hard resets thereafter i guess......
zes, and that is the problem, in that situation, trying to start the bootloader, and also after flashing for the hard reset, you don't have any external access to the functions or to any programs on your device (since at that moment there are none, quite redundant). the one and only option to give the device the power buttons impulse, is the power button.
also i guess you're aware of the fact that upgrading your rom does not solve nor avoid your problem, you will still have no key lock, drain incredibly much standby time and once the device shuts off, you need to soft reset it to restart. if the button in physically broken, it needs to be physically repaired or your problem will not be solved.
http://mikechannon.net/PDF Manuals/HTC Blue Angel Service Manual.pdf
that is the ba's service manual, in which you can find the exact process on how to change the power button, and if you don't have spare parts, you could get inspired on how to substitute one...
also, maybe posting a photo of the damage to your button could make people who went through the same be able to advise you exactly, since all my experience in the hardware section of the ba is purely theretical.

hi tony
thanks.
after the flash i can still access the clear reg hive thing by holding record and cam button..
that should be all i need.
as for waking the phone, i can set it not to disable other buttons while on standby, so i can wake it with Call/End buttons.
and then with that, i can use s2cu to software lock the device to avoid accidental presses.
but you're right, nothing better than getting it fixed physically.
i GUESS itll just require resoldering the little switch back on, as the damage is that 2 of its pins have left the circuitboard. i dont have the tools to do a small and precise soldering job so..
ill try to take a pic too and post one later
well i dug deeper...
seems that there is a 'Enterbl.exe' thats supposed to be related to enterin the bootloader without having to do all the hardware keypresses.
I've not yet had luck with this...dont know which 'version' i need..
so perhaps to rephrase my question:
is there an alternative way to enter the bootloader mode on the blue angel?
similar to the Wizard Service Tool (which i also tried out of desperation, though all it does is blink the BA's screen)

Hello everyone, my first experience of upgrading the firmware is sadly failed and now my beloved m5000 is only a beautiful paperweight!!!
No key combination could start the bootloader nor soft or hard reset works.
When I connect it to mains charger, the right led goes red for few seconds and then goes off...
In the service manual I have read that this signal means hardware failure but because the fault is the consequence of a failed upgrade I don't thing that it is really broken.
I already tried to contact htc and orange for repairing but in Italy where I live it seems that the warranty isn't valid and services are very scarce.
Someone have an hint?
Thanks.
Try to do a hard reset, many manage to get that white screen.
Thank you for the suggestion but it doesn't work The phone is completely dead, except for the red led. Any key combination including hard reset simply doesn't work.
I suspect that the only way to resurrect it is to reflash using a jtag interface.
But unluckily I don't own the pinout!!!
take a look here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Instructions for those stuck on Boot Screen for instructions on how to use the mtty utility to bring your device "back to life"
There's additional information on the mtty utility in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=259003
hope this helps
If you are on the bootloader menu...
Try to flash again a complete rom + extended rom + Radio
SOmetimes it can work again
sigh... thanks to everyone but I can't reach the bootloader menu: the uni is bricked!
My only hope is to find the jtag pinout...
Try holding down Light + power for at least 5sec. and while still pressing, do a soft reset.
If you dont go to BootLoader then try to increase the Hold down Light + Power some more.
This worked for me, could again get it active on usb and ran my original rom upgrade while it was in BootLoader mode.
If that dossent work, try the bootloader upgrade version at
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...tion On How To Upgrade with Bootloader method
You can do the same with the two - - buttons, holding for more than 5sec. then soft reset. Should bring up the Reset with 0 or X to cancel.
But it just reverted to a brick every time for me with this.
BTW. do this with USB or Power Cable plugged in!!
another possibility is that your battery is low enough not to allow booting but is still able to light up the LED. it happened to me a few times that i was thinking it was completely gone and it was just low bat. remember that if you have a non booting device it may not even charge the battery anymore so you'd better ask a friend to lend you a charged one, just to be sure.
cheers!
Ill Buy The Brick!
au$200.00 in your paypal account upon a sale +50 to Australia.
Let me know...

Still Charging
I have 2 wizards and a universal... By mistake, i have tried to upgrade the G3 wizard but pluged the G4!!!!!...... So now i have abricked G4 wizard. Now when i plug the G4 it does NOTHING, it is completly dead, BUT is still charging the Battery!!!! I am sure of this because i have tested the battery in the other device.. So try the same on universal plug it in and wait a few hours it may charge the battery.
anyway, if you can't unbrick it, do me me know if u're selling it.
need some spare parts.
Suggestion
What you can also try is remove Activesync from your desktop, Restart your desktop, install Activesync again and connect your device.
It's word a try! Has something to with rapi.dll!
Cheers...

My failure...
Hello everyone, I've tried all yours suggestion one by one and step by step but without success.
My last chance to not consider this phone a complete loss is to sell it as spares/repair...
Does someone is interested?
P.S.: notwithstanding the phone is bricked it still charge the battery
Try holding the the two - softkeyes for longer/shorter time before you softreset while still holding them down.
Also try different intervals with the softbuttons while holding the Power + Light down, also with soft+Light & soft+power & power+light
all with different intervals.
Look closely at the screen after each try, to se if it goes to bootloader mode.
And remove SD card and Sim also.
I Hate Bootloader!
I have tried ALL of these power+light+reset suggestions and I STILL can't get into the damn bootloader menu! I just gave up and rip apart my JasJar every time I want to update it. For some reason the only way I can access this menu is by pulling the main battery and disconnecting the smaller(watch battery) one in the upper right hand corner and letting it sit for a couple of hours.
Come to think of it, when I use even the factory updates I don't even get a report on the update screen telling me what my current config is! So then I hit update anyway, the unit turns off, I lose my USB connection, it no longer charges, and I have to take the battery out. Almost like the PROGRAM can't even get it into the loader! This is probably how I learned to just yank the batteries when I want to upload.
Unless there is something different because I have an earlier model... I have no clue. Does the unit need to be running or something when I do this? I think this is a fairly elementary task but it just doesn't work. Has this happened to anyone else?
Yes, all my buttons are in working order = )
BTW after my last tear-down I have -
Bootloader: 1.01
Rom version: Ivan-2.60.00WWE
Rom date: 12/20/06
Radio version:1.14.00
ExtRom version: Modified
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=247440&page=14 I think someone already suggested this, but just in case...
No chances
Well, today I've verified my battery and it works like a charm in the uni of a friend. Then the last possibility is gone.
Someone knows how to go ahead any further?
Hi,
Sorry if this has been posted before, can't find anything on it but not sure what I should be searching for. I've just received a replacement Orbit from O2, it boots up ok but doesn't seem to be able to get a phone signal even though I know I'm in a good signal area. Been on for about 2 hours but all I get is the searching icon. Anybody know what's wrong with it?
Thanks
just one other thing, when the phone boots up what should it show in the top left, i.e IPL/SPL/GSM/OS.
Sorry if this is obvious and redundant -
But have you tried various levels of resetting the phone from a simple power on/off all the way to a hard reset? Also, are you able to access SIM features like stored contacts?
Tried removing battery/sim/sd card soft reset. Just tried restoring from SPB backup and now device gets stuck at the green "Direct Push Technology" screen. What keys do a hard reset?
Cheers
Hold down the two 'soft keys' they are the ones directly to the left and right of the chrome wheel towards the top are of it. Keep holding them down while you use your stylus to press the resessed reset button on the bottom left side of the phone. Keep holding the soft keys until the phone displays a message for you to confirm by pushing the green 'talk' key. this will put your phone back into the smae state it was when it was new in the box, you will have to do the screen aligning and all that BS....
Hopefully this works for you. Otherwise I would suspect faulty hardware.
Send it back..if it's a replacement then it too is fubar and you shouldn't try and "fix" it...ring them from a landline and tell them to drop a new unit and collect the "replacement".
Why not try and 'fix' it? Thats half the purpose of this board. I know the company is liable for sending a defective unit, but if he can get it working on his own then more power to him.
Agreed....but I too have had a "replacement" orbit from O2 which had more problems then the one I sent back...I think they "recycle" the returned phones when they consider them fixed!! That is only reason to send it back...after that come here and learn how to make it sing !!
Cheers for the help people, rang O2 and it turned out it was a refurb and had been blocked off the network. Do have one other issue with it, when I receive a text and try to reply its trying to send as an email. Rang O2 and they didn't know how to sort it, anyone here know?
Thanks
Hello, what should I do? My front buttons sometimes dont work. I tried to flash official HTC rom, but it still doesnt work. But when I pres some of the left side button, temporarely the front buttons work. Have anybody some suggestions?
I have the same problem - front buttons "drop out". The only way to "re-initialise" them is to use the scroll wheel on the left hand side of the device.
It's definitely not Rom dependent. I've tried multiple roms (the official, Schaps (current), Faria, Shamanix, etc.) and it happens on all of them, so it's obviously a hardware issue. Not sure if there's a script that can be written to check and see if the keys are active, and if not, activate them.
Said to be BIG problem and possible onset of the dreaded WHITESCREEN SYNDROME....
Do a search on the forum and you might find out more...
Cheers...
I have exactly the same problem. The weird thing is that all LEDs work as expected, even the touchscreen works, but none of the buttons do, nor the ones on top neighter the ones on the bottom ... that's uncool :-(
i had the exact same problem, and in fact, its back again now because i didnt fix it properly
its to do with a loose d-pad connector. unfortunately, it involves opening up your handset, right down to the screen and reseating the d-pad connector and putting a small piece of foam or other plastic to keep it in place
good luck
Yeah, I get the whitescreen happening as well - but I thought that was a separate issue. If they are the same thing then I'll do the fix because I have the link to the whitescreen fix. Will post it when I get home
Here's link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2238093
Cheers...
I just did this mod, but went all out. I had the exact same things happening to me as the original poster. I had replaced the cable between the screen and main body of the phone from a broken jasjam, and that didnt fix it. I had opened it many times to try and reset connectors without much luck.
After reading the thread linked by the above poster, i opened it up and put a piece of foam where the O.P said, but i also place a piece just below it, and on the cable connection to the screen. That was really loose and when i moved it, it seemed to cause the white screen errors also.
Further, i placed a bit on the long connector back in the main phone.
Working 100% now, no problems with front keys. Heres hoping i dont get the problem back in 2 days!! ill let you know. I just need this baby to hang on till the Touch Pro makes it to Australia.
I might give it a go - the white screen is becoming more of an issue for me now. The buttons have long been a problem and I need to fix it.
I'm also hanging for when the Touch Pro arrives in Aus
Hi Forum,
I got a dash with the WM 6.1 from this great forum.
Somehow since yesterday the screen turned completely white
There was no physical impact on the phone what so ever...
When I turn the phone on, the screen is all the time white... but the phone is still working since the alarm is still ringing....
I've tried already the following:
- took the battery out for over 6 hours and tried again
- with and without sim/sd card
- to reset the phone but with no success since I cant see anything (2 softbuttons, powerbutton etc.)
- putting WM 6.5 with no success with the Error 270
- pressing and holding any button
- tipping the jagger for 3 times
- and finally hitting the phone
All these steps didnt use me anything...
I'd be gratefull for any sudgestions
Maybe the screen is just damaged and its not because of the software...
thanks a lot,
RedDot69
Hard-reset will be best option and can be done blind since it's button sequence as known then green key, i knopw that peeps have done it blind and with you spending enough time it will be sorted... The other option is bootloader and flash your stock ROM as won't get an error 270
thanks for the fast reply.
ok about the hard reset.
I hold both buttons beside green and red button then while holding i turn on the phone (power button more then 3 sec.) after it turned on i let go of the buttons and press the green button (I pressed it a several times). What after that?? will everything happen automatically??
if yes then the hard reset wont help since its still white...
unfortunately I dont have the original ROM anymore (WM5).
Do you know where I can get it??
Ok I guess I managed to hard reset this thing.
Unfortunately with no success
can anyone help?
will the problem be gone if I change the display?

Can you sync with your PC? That's something that you haven't state in your original post.
From what you have posted in the first post, looks to me like your phone has suffered water/moisture damage. Classic white screen, nothing shows, display turns off after default timeout seconds, phone functions smoothly. For this to occur, you dont have to dunk the phone in water, phone in pocket when exposed to light rain, snow will do it.
If this is the case, the first thing you can do to salvage the phone is to remove the battery, otherwise the charge will short circuit more, leading to irreparable damage.
Second thing, try and keep it open for 24 hours or more and try ONCE more, just once, if the moisture has been evaporated. If not, remove battery again.
Next you will need to find a service center where they will dismantle the phone and physically air dry the PCB, and hopefully if it hasnt already shorted, it will come back to life.
The cost for this could vary from minimal to astronomical, depending upon which country you are in.
Do not take my words for granted, do a google for phone water damage, find out if those are your exact symptoms.
All the best.

yes I can. I already saved the contact list The phone is perfectly working beside the white display...
@ ccpraveen
I really dont think thats the case. Since I was sleeping on the couch, the phone's alarm went of like at 11 and it was all ok, then 30 min later the screen was all white
And the night before I left the phone at home...
Bringing the phone to some service center is out of question, since I live in Germany... If possible, I'd have to repair it my self...
By the way the Display time out works too... Somehow I got the feeling that it wouldnt use me anything to change the display
please, can no one help

install this on your computer http://www.mymobiler.com/
it will silently install on your s620 when it syncs with activesync and you will be able to view your screen from your computer monitor
if everything works buy a new lcd from ebay and replace it because its probably broken

I installed the programm and I can see my display on my monitor
Then I hard reseted the phone
Installed WM6.5 from the forum successfully
But the display is still all white
If anybody thinks that the problems any way not from the display please do tell.

My impression is that you have a hardware problem, maybe your screen has something loose. If you state that you will fix it by yourself, you can read the sticky on how to take apart your dash.
There are also power management settings that will turn the display white, however if it is white all the time, then it's probably hardware. Loose connections does sound possible. I'd check that first
You can try the following:
*- COMPLETELY disassemble your phone.
*- Take the PCBs apart on a table or something.
Then... take an hairdryer!!!
You have to dry your PCBs: take a PCB in your hand and do the work.
Be aware of not using TOO HOT air, or you'll melt all.
If it doesn't work, try to dry your LCD.
Doesn't work?
Okay, then the only 2 possible fixes are:
*- Replace the LCD Flex Cable if not integrated in the LCD.
*- Replace the LCD.
Hope that you'll get your phone fixed and running
Hi folks,
first post but an important one. Important enough to join and hopefully get some answers.
My LTE Nexus 7 (running 5.0.2) bricked last night. It got stuck on the Google screen and I had no way to unlock the bootloader to flash a different version of the OS. SO this morning thinking I had nothing to lose I removed the back panel with the intention of tearing the thing down. Then it hit me. The common theory seems to be that it's the way the bootloader is not mounting the storage. So as the device never completely powers off what would happen if I cut the power manually. Hopefully a hard reset. So I detached the battery cable from the board and left it alone for a few moments. After popping the kettle on I returned, replaced the cable and tried turning on my Nexus. Lo and behold it works!
I have an unbricked device.
Which is great an all, but I have the proper tools and knowhow to delve into the hardware. More importantly though I'm trying to find out why that might have worked.
Any thoughts?
Has anyone else tried this as a solution to unbrick their device? Did it work?
There is a way easier solution, in case you didn´t know before Push the power button for a few seconds ( >5 seconds ) and it will shut down the device, the same way you are used to shut down a PC by holding the power button

But surely that's not the same as disconnecting the battery?
Trev
It´s not the same but once you´re in a "boot loop", you have no chance of eg. entering the recovery. This is why you need a way to shut down the device first.
But in case even this "forced shut down" doesn´t help and you´re out of warranty, maybe it´s not the worst idea to open the device anyway since you´ve got nothing else to lose
