Hello,
A friend just received a tmobile dash running winmo 6.0. He is seeking my help to tweak his device given my familiarity with the OS (I am a frequent poster ar everythingq.com). I have a Moto Napoleon (on verizon). I am intending to flash his rom to 6.1 but unsure which is the best most stable. If time permitted, I would cull through the various threads ... my time is limited (and yes ... I am being just a little lazy).
So ... what is the best / most stable 6.1 rom for a tmobile (US carrier) dash:
Kavana’s 6.1 ROM.
Kavana’s 6.1 ROM - Remade by Ricky.
NRGZ28's 'Rose' Rom.
NRGZ28's 'Rose' Rom - Remade by Ricky and Stylez
Other?
Thanks
John
NRGZ28's 'Rose' Rom - Remade by Ricky and Stylez
My favorite is:
NRGZ28's 'Rose' Rom - Remade by Ricky and Stylez
very good rom!
I like the opinions but the forum rules state no threads of Best ROM, Fastest ROM.
In other words flash and choose one.
Please do not carry on this thread.

Sorry - I was not familiar with the rules/guidelines; I am not sure I completely agree, as that approach may make things a bit more daunting for beginners... which I am not, thus I will happily comply.
The above being said, thanks for all the great work and info provided by the forum and members.

John,
Defo wasn't rying to come across as an ass & no need to be sorry, i can see both sides to the Best ROM but the ROM choice is rather personal and also it cuts down on the ammount of new posts asking for ROM instead of flashing, it's not so familiar over these sides as only 5 custom ROMs to choose to choose from but imagine it in say forum sections that have new ROMs nearly every week.
Have fun tweaking device there is also a load of panels posted linked from within ROM thread
stylez.
Shouldn't we analyze the ROMs and tell which ROM is suitable for which purpose of use.
Better call it ROMs - Advantage & Disadvantage
IMO they are all more stable than the horrid T-mo 6.0. Its all about personal preferance. I personally like Kavanna's cause it seems to run a little faster than the remade ones but still have the handy apps I typically use, but they are all good in their own way.
As most other people say here, spend a few days with each ROM and see which one you like best.
i've using Kavana’s 6.1 ROM - Remade by Ricky for almost a year now... (11 months or so...).. and had no problems at all with that rom... very fast and stable.. it has a lot of useful apps built right in, so you don't need anything else to get a full working device...

The best way to have the "perfect ROM" is to flash severals till you get the one that suits better for your personal needs.

Why You Say This ?! Is My Sentence Wrong ?
No, your english is fine (although strange in the use of capitalization), I think he means you will not get a fair and accurate representation of which ROM is the best.
From a technical standpoint, the Helmi and Indra releases are the best. (Indra's was based on an early Helmi image also)
But!
Because nearly everyone running WM6 here is a newbie, and newbies love new things, you will invariably see a high percentage leaning towards the PDAVIET ROM images.
PDAVIET ROM images are nothing more than rebuilds of existing images pandering to a community that is too lazy to install icons, registry changes, or localisation applications themselves, so rather than release CAB files, they just build a new ROM and watch everyone update.
Total madness.
I see your point, AlanJC, and i'm agree with you, but not totally.
I use HEIMI Rom (actually the old 3.5), and i consider that people have to use and publicize the material made from the real "artist" and not the one that are only remaskered and selled as original.
But for us newbies, it is not so pratical and easy to catch around the forum the various programs, cabs, registry elements and so on to proceed from a vanilla to a multiflavour rom.. even reinstall a new rom is a jump into the void for not-rom-programmers.. you know..
I think that best work is to make a sticky and frequently adjourned post in which there are listed the various extension (programs, icons, etc) with the links that are fine to be appliable at HEIMI or others Vanilla roms, and 2-3 line short explaination for the installation. It is an easy work for you experts, and a great solution for us dummies.
(sorry for my english)

wm6 and communication
I would like to understand which is the meaning of communications in WM6. Now you see for mail you should have the possibility to select what communication configuration use, but only appears "internet" with independence of you having more.
Some explanation on this matter should be great...
prefer AKU 3.5 by Helmi.

Definitely a plank!
In my experience, the only "features" it's lacking compared to PDAViet ROMs are third party apps
What is your prefered WM6 ROM?
What are the differences?
I am using AX3L and am quite happy with it but there are others and it would be good to get some views to save me (and others) having to re-flash to see the differences etc....
using mary 1.1 at the moment works fine
I'm using FAMAN's WM6 FR 3.2 fixed ... very very good ROM !!
I've tried Indigo Lite version, very good ROM too (but I prefer FAMAN's one because of french language)
I have tried pretty much every room. I now using the latest from Bepe .72 just reloaded yesterday. I did try the mary 1.1 one thing I did not like was the sms/mms which are seprate and I would like them into one dir. I tried to install the archsoft cab but did not work it still showed the mms folder. I have to say thought that I did like it and the extented rom was nice.
for the italian version. I have tried luigi, lasagna, fly and udK. I have to say that the touch he has done on it was great, nice and love it.. I did like lasagna's second screen a lot.. very nice touch Guybrush..Then, in the last few updates I have created my own screen splash from the tips of main page so I put a diff main screen attached here..(I love linux)..
my wishes.
use the lastest Dopod release with TomTom, live search, google maps, kaiser interface from Bepe which allows me to select diff number on speed dial on the kaiser, where others did not have that options. I would like to have them in color, use the battery info and a few other programs with the option to see the extened rom. I wish that bepe's rom would work with the htcustom but it does not.. So here you are..
Thanks.
I use the full indigo rom.. i tried the ax3l rom, but couldn't get the VPN to work.
now 2 colleagues have also installed this rom, and they are very happy with it.
using faman rom
faman's rom, its in french, i tried Mun's rom, great also, try pdaviet, but return to faman's one.
Faman 3.2 Fixed...
She's in french, and all I need work fine.
bepe's rom obviously, full version, reason: fits my needs.
bepe made a new rom for Trinity - where? I want it
Damn - I've been looking at the thread posts and thought that the ROM was just German. Great to see a new ROM from bepe - loved his other one. Can't wait to get my phone back with nre paint to flash this ROM
I'm still on LVSW's 2.0.1.1 ROM, it's pretty stable and has few bugs.
I use Lasagna 2.1.2 (italian) and is stable and fast.
I prefer this because it has few programs inside ROM and a good storage.
Bye
yeah the Trinity lacks english rom's currently.
i'd really really like to see a rom similar to schap's 3.54c on the trinity, that would be awesome.
anyways, thanks to all the chef's that have been cooking froms for the trinity. look forward to newer ones!
please make them like schaps!
Indigo Full
I use Indigo Full. Very good and stable rom when you get it to work. When I first flashed this rom, there was a lot of bugs. Therefore I flashed back the Indigo Lite. I thought I would give it another try and then flashed Indigo Full again and somehow everything was working fast and stable. Touchflo, windows mobile device center in Vista and all the other stuff that has been reported as problems with this rom. Now that everything is ok, I think this is the best rom available at this time. Have used a lot of cooked roms and originals, but I'm amazed by this. But of course, that's my opinion and everyone's free to have theire own

Hey Jason!
Tell me you weren't serious about the Trinity lacking English ROMs.
WM6: AX3L, bepe, mUn, LVSW, PDAVIET, MARY, Shadowmite and Dopod Official ROMS - each has seen several versions - and as a result we must have about 30 available WM6 English ROMs for our Trinity. 3 months ago people were saying that WM6 for the Trinity would never get there.
I think that there are som great ROMs out there. Share with us what you like about schaps ROMs (what device does he make them for) - what makes them superior in your opinion - that'll give some ideas to our Trinity chefs perhaps?
If only Schap would do a trinity rom! That would be awesome! Im using INDIGO FULL - only problem i have is the operator settings keep dissappering (and iv done all the tricks mentioned!)

Using latest LSVW. Wanted to use the latest AX3L but after flashing the splash screen became white and later on my Today was totally messed up. Do not know why this happened because the update was fine on another P3600 of my friend. Anyway, the LSVW rom is fine, pretty fast and nicely stripped so no problems here.

hey nealed! nice hearing from you.
Well the current ROM's are quite dated. I'm still running LVSW's on my trinity and really miss the slick functions on Schaps for Hermes'. From the screen shots their just missing a few things.
You must say Schaps is the most complete ROM out there. I'd really like too see someone copy Schaps for the Trinity. I really like the HTC Today on it and just everything he's placed in it. there's really no rubbish in it.
anyways i'm picky and i'm jsut waiting for a awesome chef to make a ROM thats pretty much identical to schaps.
thanks to all the chefs!
whats the best 6.1 ROM out there right now and why?
Please no, not another one of these questions. If you are not going to take a bit of time to read or search the forum then just try one of the lastest 19213 builds!
Ive already tried A LOT but nothing compares to Chap ROM with all the applications and stuff.
oh dear... i'm with gwen on this one... hahalololzzz... i'm off or some more reading... what a spectacular 1st post i've ever had here. btw- thx u gr8 pplz!
I agree with wam7. Always a horrible question. Every ROM is different just like every users needs are different. What is the perfect ROM for one, is not for another. Just read more, try as many ROM's as you can, and settle on the one that works for you......
Agree with wam & mike, you need to read the chef's wm6.1 threads / posts for all details & specific. Then flash some to see what fits U best...
Mod...close this redundant thread question!
My opinion is that any ROM that has the essentials that you use is good.
On my ROM, I include what I consider to be the essentials, and not anything else - if you want to add more, you can. Office, WLM, and Voice dialing is included with my ROM, but you can remove them if you don't want them.
I look at the ROMs that have 40+ applications installed as a default and usually think "Wow, I'd never use all that stuff" - but again, this is only my opinion
I was using CRC's WM6.1 v9 Rom, but I had a screen problem so changed to Schaps WM6 v4.31 which didn';t solve the problem (which was a loose D-Pad connector).
BUT, I decided to keep Schaps rom because I missed all the excellent functions it has. It may not be WM6.1 but it's the ultimate rom out there IMO.
best rom = ppc2003. google and install it. its the latest version.
HAHA that got your attention huh?
I just thought I'd start a thread for people who might be considering upgrading to Windows Mobile 6.0 or 6.1. You should post why you like a certain rom, which features you like, and what could be better.
Since (and I am pretty sure on this) that all of the builds are based on "chunks" of the OS taken from other phone's distributions, there isn't a "hermes specific" guide to improvements that these newer OSs give the user.
So if you feel like it, post away. Hopefully if anything, this will serve as a basis for which rom to choose.
Please don't spam the thread with posts agreeing with other users. I didn't intend for this thread to be a discussion. Try not to post based off other posts, and please
DON'T QUOTE ANYONE!
This means if someone says "I like schaps because its purple and neat looking", don't post "YA IT SURE IS". Just post AGAIN stating that it is purple, as well as what else you like about it.
Reserved for future use
ROM: CRCs STABLE (v11.2; 17-Jul)
This is a great rom to use. Battery life is excellent, and my phone never hangs / crashes. (hence the stable). I like that it accepts dialer customizations (3G dialer from the kaiser for instance) without making you go through a graphic nightmare trying to get it to work.
I *have* noticed some WIFI issues however... Not being able to connect to networks that I KNOW are open. It will say you are connected, however you won't be able to transfer. This however is only a very rarely encountered issue, and usually at WIFI hotspots in restaurants and hotels. It ALWAYS works on my home network.
Rom seems on par with most when speed is considered. It is not either slow, nor exremely fast. Quick enough to do most any task with less than a 1 second wait.
I would definately recommend this rom for use by anyone who is considering their first upgrade, or anyone who wants a very useable rom with a good basic set of programs and tools.
Thank you for bringing this up
Personally, I would say CRCinAU's roms have been the benchmark for other chefs to 'match' or 'better'
These days abusalza is that chef. Again these are my personal opinion, you really NEED TO FLASH ALL THE ROMS, to find what you like and what you don't.
No one can tell me what I will like and what I won't like, as it is down to preference.
So, in other words, .... this thread is pretty useless
in here is a link to rom benchmarks (great job be veyka) to assist U:
>>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419158
Why did you post that? tell me, is there anywhere out there where there is a "consumer reports" type of ROM review?
Rom choice is.. very much what you like.
I can tell you from exp, and I have flashed almost every rom here, as im sure many other people can, that its the ONLY way to know what to use.
There isnt a bad rom, just one that isnt right for you.
since joining this community, i have flashed many roms. I have flashed almost every release during that time, it would exceed 100 roms.
now, what i have noticed is that it doesnt matter which rom i chose, i end up putting the applications on it which i like. Some of the roms have these and others do not. so really, find what it is you like, get the cabs for it, and almost all roms are the same.
there is the stability and speed of roms which is different. but with a 400mhz processor, the speed is barely noticeable unless you change the pagepool.
There is one rom that i always return to when i am away for a while, being Berds 4.31 SS
I find there is a huge difference in speed and battery drain between different WM6.1 roms.
I would personally hold up CRC and PDAcorner as the best two out there atm.
(main difference is if you like your rom vanilla or not)

download every hermes kitchen you can find and just start messing with stuff.. RGU's are all registry entries. modify and open xml's to see what they do. and just start poking around, eventually (3 months) you'll get a working almost stable build! Every change you make be sure to note it incase you need to go back and correct.. Also note what you did to fix stuff.
Then when you have questions PM and i'll try and help as much as i can but i'm still new.

Also the Hypercore kitchen has a good manual with it.. On porting, the noob way for porting is easyportoven, otherwise search xip and sys porting and there is a nice thread on it..
The rest is just trial and error.

I've been looking for new rom to suite my diamond.
I want 6.5 cause of the improved behavior of scrolling and since its a little more fingerfriendly in the menus.
The issue is that every rom is so tweaked that after 5Mins I get memory usage of 90%!
Therefore I'd like to find a basic WM6.5 that hasnt been touched and tweaked,
So I can use it with my own software customizations and thats all.
I dont like the tweaks so much since it kills the memory and cause problems to softwares like IGO and Opera which needs a bit more memory.
Thanks!
looking for same here..

Heh. Well, your sig just gave you away.
im sorry to ruin all the party but ive tried the rom you reccomended, and it aint such a memory saver too!
I had it yesterday, this rom is *loaded* with tweaks.
maybe there's something else?
i've never noticed big differences with or without all the tweaks, ever "official" just with tf3d2 is fine for me
Use lobsterdave's easy to follow kitchen and cook your own.
Much easier and you won't have anything you don't need.

Im sure you're well aware that both WM6.5 and the tf3d2 (for diamond anyway) are both in beta/experimental stages (Hence, there is no such thing as 'official 6.5' atm), and that even if you don't tweak them they are bound to have memory leaks? (tf3d was a memory hogger for 6.1 btw INMHO) Just the fact that you found no 6.5 rom to suit your needs of more free ram, is already a clue dude.

I think you're misunderstanding.
You don't need a base ROM. It's all included in the kitchen along with all the packages. You can of course create your own packages and add what you want to the kitchen.
Then after you've selected what you want in your kitchen and what you don't want you can cook it into a ROM. Before you cook you don't have a base ROM, you have a whole load of files in their raw format ready for packaging into the ROM.
As I said, use lobsterdave's kitchen which is exceptionally easy to follow and has instructions.
Where can i get lobsterdave's kitchen?
