So..what ROMs is everyone using...and why? - P3600 ROM Development

What is your prefered WM6 ROM?
What are the differences?
I am using AX3L and am quite happy with it but there are others and it would be good to get some views to save me (and others) having to re-flash to see the differences etc....

using mary 1.1 at the moment works fine

I'm using FAMAN's WM6 FR 3.2 fixed ... very very good ROM !!
I've tried Indigo Lite version, very good ROM too (but I prefer FAMAN's one because of french language)

I have tried pretty much every room. I now using the latest from Bepe .72 just reloaded yesterday. I did try the mary 1.1 one thing I did not like was the sms/mms which are seprate and I would like them into one dir. I tried to install the archsoft cab but did not work it still showed the mms folder. I have to say thought that I did like it and the extented rom was nice.
for the italian version. I have tried luigi, lasagna, fly and udK. I have to say that the touch he has done on it was great, nice and love it.. I did like lasagna's second screen a lot.. very nice touch Guybrush..Then, in the last few updates I have created my own screen splash from the tips of main page so I put a diff main screen attached here..(I love linux)..
my wishes.
use the lastest Dopod release with TomTom, live search, google maps, kaiser interface from Bepe which allows me to select diff number on speed dial on the kaiser, where others did not have that options. I would like to have them in color, use the battery info and a few other programs with the option to see the extened rom. I wish that bepe's rom would work with the htcustom but it does not.. So here you are..
Thanks.

I use the full indigo rom.. i tried the ax3l rom, but couldn't get the VPN to work.
now 2 colleagues have also installed this rom, and they are very happy with it.

using faman rom
faman's rom, its in french, i tried Mun's rom, great also, try pdaviet, but return to faman's one.

Faman 3.2 Fixed...
She's in french, and all I need work fine.

bepe's rom obviously, full version, reason: fits my needs.

bepe made a new rom for Trinity - where? I want it
Damn - I've been looking at the thread posts and thought that the ROM was just German. Great to see a new ROM from bepe - loved his other one. Can't wait to get my phone back with nre paint to flash this ROM

I'm still on LVSW's 2.0.1.1 ROM, it's pretty stable and has few bugs.

I use Lasagna 2.1.2 (italian) and is stable and fast.
I prefer this because it has few programs inside ROM and a good storage.
Bye

yeah the Trinity lacks english rom's currently.
i'd really really like to see a rom similar to schap's 3.54c on the trinity, that would be awesome.
anyways, thanks to all the chef's that have been cooking froms for the trinity. look forward to newer ones!
please make them like schaps!

Indigo Full
I use Indigo Full. Very good and stable rom when you get it to work. When I first flashed this rom, there was a lot of bugs. Therefore I flashed back the Indigo Lite. I thought I would give it another try and then flashed Indigo Full again and somehow everything was working fast and stable. Touchflo, windows mobile device center in Vista and all the other stuff that has been reported as problems with this rom. Now that everything is ok, I think this is the best rom available at this time. Have used a lot of cooked roms and originals, but I'm amazed by this. But of course, that's my opinion and everyone's free to have theire own

Hey Jason!
Tell me you weren't serious about the Trinity lacking English ROMs.
WM6: AX3L, bepe, mUn, LVSW, PDAVIET, MARY, Shadowmite and Dopod Official ROMS - each has seen several versions - and as a result we must have about 30 available WM6 English ROMs for our Trinity. 3 months ago people were saying that WM6 for the Trinity would never get there.
I think that there are som great ROMs out there. Share with us what you like about schaps ROMs (what device does he make them for) - what makes them superior in your opinion - that'll give some ideas to our Trinity chefs perhaps?

If only Schap would do a trinity rom! That would be awesome! Im using INDIGO FULL - only problem i have is the operator settings keep dissappering (and iv done all the tricks mentioned!)

Using latest LSVW. Wanted to use the latest AX3L but after flashing the splash screen became white and later on my Today was totally messed up. Do not know why this happened because the update was fine on another P3600 of my friend. Anyway, the LSVW rom is fine, pretty fast and nicely stripped so no problems here.

hey nealed! nice hearing from you.
Well the current ROM's are quite dated. I'm still running LVSW's on my trinity and really miss the slick functions on Schaps for Hermes'. From the screen shots their just missing a few things.
You must say Schaps is the most complete ROM out there. I'd really like too see someone copy Schaps for the Trinity. I really like the HTC Today on it and just everything he's placed in it. there's really no rubbish in it.
anyways i'm picky and i'm jsut waiting for a awesome chef to make a ROM thats pretty much identical to schaps.
thanks to all the chefs!

Why You Say This ?! Is My Sentence Wrong ?
No, your english is fine (although strange in the use of capitalization), I think he means you will not get a fair and accurate representation of which ROM is the best.
From a technical standpoint, the Helmi and Indra releases are the best. (Indra's was based on an early Helmi image also)
But!
Because nearly everyone running WM6 here is a newbie, and newbies love new things, you will invariably see a high percentage leaning towards the PDAVIET ROM images.
PDAVIET ROM images are nothing more than rebuilds of existing images pandering to a community that is too lazy to install icons, registry changes, or localisation applications themselves, so rather than release CAB files, they just build a new ROM and watch everyone update.
Total madness.
I see your point, AlanJC, and i'm agree with you, but not totally.
I use HEIMI Rom (actually the old 3.5), and i consider that people have to use and publicize the material made from the real "artist" and not the one that are only remaskered and selled as original.
But for us newbies, it is not so pratical and easy to catch around the forum the various programs, cabs, registry elements and so on to proceed from a vanilla to a multiflavour rom.. even reinstall a new rom is a jump into the void for not-rom-programmers.. you know..
I think that best work is to make a sticky and frequently adjourned post in which there are listed the various extension (programs, icons, etc) with the links that are fine to be appliable at HEIMI or others Vanilla roms, and 2-3 line short explaination for the installation. It is an easy work for you experts, and a great solution for us dummies.
(sorry for my english)

that cant be justified mate...
the rest of the needed apps are given as .cab files

wm6 and communication
I would like to understand which is the meaning of communications in WM6. Now you see for mail you should have the possibility to select what communication configuration use, but only appears "internet" with independence of you having more.
Some explanation on this matter should be great...
prefer AKU 3.5 by Helmi.

In my experience, the only "features" it's lacking compared to PDAViet ROMs are third party apps

Black ROM's

Please be gentle with a noob. I've read so much about upgrading to WM6, that I've succeeded in confusing myself. The "MrVanx guides" are fantastic, so I have the process covered - a BIG THANKYOU. A couple of basic questions if I may.
- Is there a place that outlines the differing contents of the various "cooked" ROM's that are on teh MrVanx site?
- What is the latest version of the "Black" ROM -- Majik, Satin, .....?
- After I upgrade teh ROM, do I still need to load the relevant carrier settings? If so where can I find them for Telstra (Australia).
Sorry for the stupid questions.
I think (might be wrong) that Satin is the latest Black ROM. But, even though the black Roms are good, we have moved on quite a bit since they were release. My favourite (stability, speed etc) is Schaps 4.01.
I don't think there is an up to date guide for what each rom contains - you need to read the individual threads and compare them. There is some info and links here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Cooked_ROMs and also a great benchmarking guige from KarhU http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320370.
I don't remember if the black Roms include all carrier settings or not, but JJ is Australian so he might have included the Telstra settings. If not, you'll need to do a bit of searching. It's easier to search with mikechannons google search than using the built search function on this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298893.
Black ROMS are over (it seems)
I started with the black ROMs, but that was prior to the official WM6 release (which I now use). I believe that if you want to use non-official ROMs the best are from Schaps, and I also like some of the other lighter ones.
From this post (http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/hermes-black-rom-support/12730-hi-bye.html) it seems that after his exodus from XDA forums to orbit his own planet, Jasjamming has for personal reasons given up custom ROMs altogether, and even smashed his own JasJam (lol).
Nothing personal, but he developed an amazing and arrogant attitude toward new ROM adopters, and as he has left the scene I wouldn't expect any advice or answers 'from the horses mouth'.
Try the official releases or Schap's. I also commend Schen for his unending efforts and sharing of Touch apps.
Just my honest thoughts, not a flame. I read a lot and comment little.
also if you just like the black roms there is a cab called black glossy bars or something like that. That will give you the black theme. Also try using s64 wwe. Best rom ever. Its fast and user friendly. It will set you network up for you and i have yet to find a flaw with it...Matter a fact take a look at the thread and judge for yourself.
Best non official are TNT...
PLEASE, do not say "the best is xxx" as... this is just silly. The beast one for you is he one, that fits your needs. If you need Polish-language rom, the best is POLOK, because this is the... ONLY one that is in Polish. If you need autoconfiguration for some unknown GSM network, there might be no rom that would fit your needs. And so on.
To find out which one is the best FOR YOU, you have to check it on your own.
The only general answer we can give is for question "which rom is most popular" and from coocked roms Schaps seems to win. I like this rom although I hate the violet color used in it.
Wiki has some information http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes. Black ROMs are not being developed right now. Check out other roms by custel or other kinda black ROMs.
JJ evoked some strong emotions as he left but personally I was a big fan of his ROMs.
I stuck with Satin, then his RC2 for a bit, and recently tried a few of the (non-JJ) newer ones before settling on CUSTEL's "I'm Back", but every user has different needs and desires out of their ROM (memory vs. function vs. speed vs ???)
The nutshell is the Black series appears to have halted development. So you can either find the latest Black ROM and hang with that (if it meets your needs), or start trying the newer ones.
As mentioned elsewhere, the Black ROMs were supported thru: http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/hermes-black-rom-support/
Happy ROMing,
Mike
Black ROMS have not halted in development, they are completely done with. Jas smashed his Hermes and no longer has a similar device.
Well, personally, I think Satin is still the best. Especially for noobs who donot just accept ROM with all new addons in a packet. I've been quite around with many ROMs and now decided to back to Satin and adding addons base on my own needs.
I'm using Black X RC right now, but im having an issue with the phone saying im disconnected with the cell network, but I can still make calls. I've tried multiple radios, with the same thing happening.

Try use Schaps Lite ROMS. I also like a clean ROM that I can add whatever I want to it.
I just upgraded from Satin to Schaps Pro 4.01 Lite and it's clearly a more stable and quicker version of WM.

Agree with you. After the stock HTC Dutch WM6, the stock T-Mobile Dutch, some Hyper Core and three S64 roms I'm now running S64/9 for several weeks and this one suits me best. Even though there still some parts I would like to not to have in the rom, it's stable and the autoconfig in combi with Schaps Advanced config is great. I did install the latest HTC Home plug-in and the HTC Home Customizer to get the best of the HTC Home plugin and now I got a setup I will not change till the next version of S64 comes out.
Just my 2c.

Which the best / most stable 6.1 rom for tmobile

Hello,
A friend just received a tmobile dash running winmo 6.0. He is seeking my help to tweak his device given my familiarity with the OS (I am a frequent poster ar everythingq.com). I have a Moto Napoleon (on verizon). I am intending to flash his rom to 6.1 but unsure which is the best most stable. If time permitted, I would cull through the various threads ... my time is limited (and yes ... I am being just a little lazy).
So ... what is the best / most stable 6.1 rom for a tmobile (US carrier) dash:
Kavana’s 6.1 ROM.
Kavana’s 6.1 ROM - Remade by Ricky.
NRGZ28's 'Rose' Rom.
NRGZ28's 'Rose' Rom - Remade by Ricky and Stylez
Other?
Thanks
John
NRGZ28's 'Rose' Rom - Remade by Ricky and Stylez
My favorite is:
NRGZ28's 'Rose' Rom - Remade by Ricky and Stylez
very good rom!
I like the opinions but the forum rules state no threads of Best ROM, Fastest ROM.
In other words flash and choose one.
Please do not carry on this thread.

Sorry - I was not familiar with the rules/guidelines; I am not sure I completely agree, as that approach may make things a bit more daunting for beginners... which I am not, thus I will happily comply.
The above being said, thanks for all the great work and info provided by the forum and members.

John,
Defo wasn't rying to come across as an ass & no need to be sorry, i can see both sides to the Best ROM but the ROM choice is rather personal and also it cuts down on the ammount of new posts asking for ROM instead of flashing, it's not so familiar over these sides as only 5 custom ROMs to choose to choose from but imagine it in say forum sections that have new ROMs nearly every week.
Have fun tweaking device there is also a load of panels posted linked from within ROM thread
stylez.
Shouldn't we analyze the ROMs and tell which ROM is suitable for which purpose of use.
Better call it ROMs - Advantage & Disadvantage
IMO they are all more stable than the horrid T-mo 6.0. Its all about personal preferance. I personally like Kavanna's cause it seems to run a little faster than the remade ones but still have the handy apps I typically use, but they are all good in their own way.
As most other people say here, spend a few days with each ROM and see which one you like best.
i've using Kavana’s 6.1 ROM - Remade by Ricky for almost a year now... (11 months or so...).. and had no problems at all with that rom... very fast and stable.. it has a lot of useful apps built right in, so you don't need anything else to get a full working device...

[REQ] Looking for a very fast and clean WM6.1 (no Touch Flow)

Hi,
I'm looking for a very fast, stable and clean WM6.1 for my Diamond with a lot of free memory available (if possible, DUTCH NEDERLAND version). I already found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547314 but I don't understand how to use it since I'm not a cook...
Actually I'm looking for something like the latest NATALY rom but than without touch flow, finger keyboard, ... The idea is to start from scratch and only install very few CAB files that I like (or maybe SPB Mobile Shell).
Can someone help me with that or refer me to a correct location please? Thank you!
HAllo,

it is not WM6.1 it is WM6.5 clean, stable and fast!

i dont have any colorfull custimisations
i tried looking a little but not much that i like(found a taskbar though)
you guys can instal dinik his icon set?
it is wvga so i dont know if it works
anyone has a nice taskbar
or cna i use wvga stuff for that?
edit: just saw startmenu icons are the same size for wvga and vga so i only need some nice colorfull icons for slider and maybe other things threu the rom
would have been easy if i said i am making a sense 2.5 rom
Good Post Lokje!
I flash my ROM every 2 weeks, but haven't found a good/fast/stable Dutch ROM yet. The GEN Y NLD ROM looks nice but for daily use it isn't fast enough. I'm sending a lot of text messages every day and i hate waiting on a letter to appear on the screen. And browsing on a slow device is also verry frustrating.
So, before i throw the device against the wall, i hope someday there will be a perfect match between me and a lovely Dutch Rom!
My criteria:
- Dutch T9
- Phone Keyboard (QWERTY is to small for my fingers)
- WM 6.5
- Nice look (for example the Atlas 1.2 ROM)
- Very Fast
Have a nice day!

i want it to be colorfull as i think it will look nice
wm6.5
sense 2.5 (with htc messaging fix to get multiple pages)
and dutch xt9 gonna try but not sure about this as he doesnt use xt9 so that doesnt matter to him
it wil have a lot in common with my blackstone rom
for instance it has the same taskbar
i hope the slider can be the same as well as i really like them:-o
startmenu icons will be the same
edit:
verry weak device:-o
the startmenu icons eat up 9% ram:S
gonna try some size decreasers for the pictures

I use Atlas 1.20 with the older 1.5 series keyboard with dutch xT9. Works well enough. Supports phone keyboard, compact qwerty and qwerty. Only has issues with opera mini 5 beta, but that's opera's fault. Opera mobile 10 works without any problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636448 for the rom and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426281 for the keyboard. Scroll down a bit for the dutch language pack and be sure to download the VGA versions!
going to give him his phone and laptop back tonight so he can testdrive the rom
i think it should work like its supposed to but just to be sure
to bad theres not much custimisations in it as only the startmenu icons take up 9% ram:-o
ps the atlas rom isnt dutch
they are asking about a dutch rom:-o

My ATLAS will be Dutch very soon . Did you do any translations yet for the OEM folder? Maybe we can split up the work and work together for that one.
PS. Where did Da_G hide his initflashfiles.dat files? I remember downloading it a few weeks back but cant find it anymore.

to be honest i havent done any translation yet
i first make it english and then i make it nld
he is now testing the english version and i hope everything is ok
as for the oem fodler have looked there but it looks weird in my opinion
nothing like my blackstone kitchen
think it has something to extendir
as for initflash.dat i use the english one from my blakstone kitchen(i made english and dutch roms) and it works like it should so i gues i can use it from my blackstone kitchen for the nld to
wich kitchen did you use as base?
i downloaded the one from chrisda1a
all packages have alreadby been thrown out and replaced by my own and my own tweaks
only thing is a lot gets overwritten cause many .exe files and mui are in the oem folders:S
i think this will slow down the device but hack first soem playing with my own again
its fallen behind with 21901
and about half the kitchen ext packages has to be updated
ps if you are a chef do you know why messenger always says i am in a bad reception place
this happens on the diamond
while i have the same sys/xip packages as i use for blackstone and i dont have problem there
edit: if you wanna talk dutch [email protected]
Mybe it's posable to cook a clean Dutch WM 6.5 rom for the HTC Diamond 1 and share that ROM with all members of xda-developers.
So we can install the other programm's by or own and make ik work like we self want.
