Urgent HElp Needed with SPL - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

Need to flash back my device to the original SPL, I have downloaded it (1.37) as recommended and flashed but the bootloader still displays 1.93 OliNex, but it completed successfully, why ?
Much appreciated guys, need to drop it into Vodafone shortly so they can send it in for a warranty repair to fix the screen fault.
EDIT:
Don't matter, got it sorted, took 4 succesfull attempts to be succesfull though lol

LOL - Glad yu got it sorted.
I presume you flash stock ROM too - Which one?

Flashed the normal stock one, latest official UK release from HTC.
Did not get it repaired anyway, it's out of manufacturing warranty, so not covered, can't claim on my mobile insurance as not accidental damage, so stuck with it at the moment, at least for a month or so, then, somehow, something might happen to it that is covered by the accidental damage, loss or theft coverage

Quick question for you Jamie -
I'm about to take the plunge and go for the latest OEM ROM. I want the UK applicable version. Did you use -
RUU_Diamond_HTC_WWE-ME_1.93.456.2_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.0 0.25.05_Ship
or
RUU_Diamond_HTC_Europe_2.03.401.2_Radio_Signed_Dia mond_52.51.25.26_1.09.25.23_Ship
Also I have previously installed SPL 1.37.OliNex which IIRC is unsigned. Should I upgrade to 1.40 which is the latest I have found and should I use unsigned?
Thanks.
Oh and in advance I'm sorry to hear about your loss

No problem mate, I can deal with the screen for a while, it comes and goes and is not annoying yet lol
2.03.401.2 would be the best release if you want to stick with Official ROM's. As for the SPL it's up to you as the main reason for having the HardSPL is to flash unoficial rom's etc onto the device.
Some unofficial rom's work better with certain SPL's, but as for the official one's I am not sure.

Thanks
Do you recomend flashing from the internal memory as I have read this seems to be the current accepted method.
These are the isntructions I found but I don't seem to be able to extract the .exe. When I run it it wants to perform the update.
Instructions for flashing from internal storage:
Extract the RUU_Diamond_HTC_Europe_2.03.401.2_Radio_Signed_Dia mond_52.51.25.26_1.09.25.23_Ship.exe file (or whatever one you are wanting to flash) to a new directory on your PC
Find the RUU_signed.nbh file in this new directory and rename it to Diamimg.nbh
Copy Diamimg.nbh to the root of Internal Storage
Hold in the volume down button + the back button (thats the top right button on the front to the right of the big middle jog control) + soft reset
Follow instructions on screen
When the process is complete (it will say UPDATE SUCCESS) then reset
Click to collapse

Cancel that I've sorted the extracting. So internal memory for flash??

Yes, you won't be able to flash 2.03 over activesync, it corrupts the image, copy the nbh to your internal memory, rename to DIAMIMG.nbh, then hold VolumeDown and Back on phone while softreset with stylus, then follow on screen instructions

Excellent, thanks mate.
Wish me luck

Hmm, good luck.... lol

All done - Thanks for your help.

out of warranty, that's bullcrap. unless you told them about flashing it. The device only arrived in the UK less then a year ago.
I got mine from HK in May and orange did not start shipping until Jul. so your O2 one would of been later.
I would be on the phone to HTC

"if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Is Kelfords statement which keeps him from upgrading.
I have the same feeling. I am a scary type: Afraid to brick my Jasjar.
So here are some questions to all that did the job:
1. After some weeks... still runs faster then before U-day?
2. Which problems have been solved defenitely?
3. Tell me why I am a sucker not to upgrade.

1. Yes, I feel it's faster.
2. Update is not only for bug fix.
3. Some people still use Win98. You are not alone.
qt
I have upgraded mine twice in 3 days...
First with the official orange update, and second with the same rom but radio version 1.09 using the no id method..
Both worked very well and and the latest version is faster, more reliable and much better phone wise...
3. Some people are affraid that they will lose their guaranty if the upgrade.
But what is more worse then trying to upgrade after the waranty has expired, and then find out you have a model that gets stuck in the boot screen?
If you think about that, it's even better to upgrade to check if it gets stuck in the bootscreen, and send it back for another model that doesn't have this bug.
True or not?
Or you can just choose to stay with an unstable version, never upgrade at all and have a device with all kinds of bugs, and outdated os. Just like windows 98 users ^^.
i would say, if you are afraid, why not bring your universal to the customer services of your retailer to ask them to upgrade it.
My questions about upgrading to a non-O2 ROM are:
How do I get back GPRS/3G settings, MMS and SMS settings, all that stuff that the O2 ROM has and the JasJar one doesn't?
Also, does the JasJar ROM have the AKU2 feature (since I can't currently sync with our exchange server)?

Qtotter,
I am not that afraid. I am a software guy myself.
But I am so horribly dependent on my phone ( living in the middle of nowhere of Romania) that I consider to buy another one for the case that I am stuck.
I am continuously connected to MSN (clients and staff) All my agenda etc. etc. I have a simple Nokia as a backup. That's why I am afraid. I did an upgrade before, and all went nice. so I maybe....

Did you buy it on eBay or something? If not, all you would have to do is just to take (or send) your uni to the retailer as long as the warranty is good if it gets stuck at splash screen.
Upgrading and updating is part of evolution.
If you brick it --> RTFM
You all got your point. I just upgraded succesfully.
Thanks for your input.

To Brick or not to Brick that is the question
I can tell you personally that bricking the phone is a bad situation. However you have to ask your self if it brick doesn't that mean it was broken to begin with? I am bummed because I don't have my Jasjar but I appreciate having it more now that it is being repaired. At least make sure before upgrading that you hard reset the device, not that it matters because it all gets overwriten but you want question "is it something I did or installed?"

I'm in the "don't know enough about it" camp, but gonna give it a go sometime. Stupid question - will Sprite Back-Up reinstate you customization after an upgrade. I guess not but ....
Is the stuck in bootscreen a malfunction with the device ?
Mine is back to the shop due to this problem. I hope it's under warranty, I flashed it with the Tmob UK rom rather then the Tmob NL rom because I have everything in english and work at a international company.
So the new types don't have this bug (read: feature) so it's safe to reflash it again ?

Sorry to sound stupid... but upgrading the Radio ROM will hard reset everything like upgrading the main ROM?
I just did the official Orange ROM upgrade. Should I now upgrade my radio, before I get too far into putting everything back?

No.
You can find radio roms on the net, or download a shipped rom (it is an executable archived file) and decompress it to get three rom images, one of which is a radio rom.
Refer to
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Universal
qt
Here is a link to the latest radio ROM, I installed this on my last unit, it didn't require a hard reset.
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Universal/Radio/UNI_radio_1.09.nbf.rar
The new O2 ROM is probably the way to go, it will give you 1.09.00 radio and the latest OS and ExtROMs.
Most people seem to have problems with ROM upgrades if they do a hard reset after flashing, so just finish the upgrade and poke the reset pin without the keys held in.

IPL.SPL help!

Ok my screen broke today. Took it out of my pocket and it had cracked
Is there any app I can install on my phone to see the IPL and SPL versions? Or is there any other way I can fine out what I have?
yes there is an app called wiki search and i heard it works perfectly
anyhow press and hold left ok key + da power button and then use ur stylus to press down the soft reset key that should take you to da bootloader screen
Going into the bootloader to see this info is pointless. Screen is cracked and I cant see anything.
Go to the bootloader screen. Uncheck "allow USB" in Active Sync. Connect your unit with USB cable. (Download and) run MTTY program, choosing your unit, (not a comm port) for connection. Hit ENTER, to get a cmd prompt. Type "info 7" without the quotes. It will show you the bootloader info.
Examples:
USB>info 7

That is what I get. I downgraded from oli pro to SPL 1.04 so I am guessing this is correct?
is it safe to downgrade? Can I get my warranty if I downgrade to the original SPL?
Good luck having a cracked screen covered by warranty...
Yeah I know. Maybe I wont tell them the screen is cracked and just say it wont come one anymore that there is no light. I disabled the back light so it wont turn on except only on a reset. If it wont come on then how will I know its cracked?? Worth a shot I guess.

It is a good bet that a reset will be part of their diagnostic procedure.
If you are feeling really daring, just brick it before sending it back. One way to ensure that they cannot boot it is to overwrite the IPL/SPL with a bad file. I would certainly not ADVOCATE such things, but it would probably be highly effective to ensure they do not get the thing booted. Of course, you never will either.

Well, we would need some more info, like what your Hermes' problem is, but read the MrVanx downgrade guide and it is pretty safe. It is definitely best to downgrade back before sending it in, if you have a warranty replacement issue.

Well I was hoping that they would just send me a replacement and not ask many questions since "I can't see anything" on the screen. I have no idea how the warranty works on these things.

You wouldn't happen to have a "bad" file anywhere that I could download. I am daring enough to try this. I got the phone from wirefly (don't bash me please) and they are sending me a replacement. I don't know what kinda techs they have. They said all they check for when they receive the phone is all the contents in the box and nothing else but I don't trust that. Bricking it would be a good way to ensure they don't see the screen.

Well, the easiest way is to make sure that HardSPL is not on there and then build your own file using Dutty's god NBH tool. Just create an NBH for a IPL.SPL flash and reverse the files. In other words, instead of putting the SPL.nb in where the IPL should be and vice versa. I assure you, they would not be able to boot the phone. I know this because I did this *on accident* one time and completely bricked the phone. Completely unrecoverable! To the point that the LED did not even come on to indicate that the phone was plugged in. It was well and truly dead. Again, I would not really advocate doing this type of thing, only pointing out that it will most certainly render your phone completely and irretrievably dead.
Alright. I am thinking hard about this because if they can see the screen is cracked (Can be done in the right light at the right angle) then they might send it back and I don't want to be stuck with the bricked phone. Would be cheaper to void the warranty and replace the screen on my own. Thanks for the info though.

Your IPL was not 1.11 - i was prolly 1.01.
There are links to necessary files in the guide.
The original IPL and SPL on my AT&T 8525 was:
IPL-1.03
SPL-1.11
These were the original on 2 8525's I have had.
Do As I Did
I had a qtek 9100 with a smashed screen that i could not recur to the warranties because of the ROM plus other things, the only way was to change the screen was on my own, using the service manual (and it was easier than i thought) now i have a tytn but my old 9100 still works at 100% ps: GOOD LUCK

Better Safe than Sorry - Do Not Want to Brick My Phone

I very much want to upgrade my O2 Orbit Rom to either WM6 or the B&B developed by Tom. Right now it apparently does not have the UK WM5 on it; according to the Ebay seller I bought it from I would have to go to the Hong Kong site to get an "official update" but the seller claims it would be better not to do so as people are reporting losing their radio and bluetooth. So I have read and re-read through these threads. I hear stories of phones not working after being flashed so I want to be super cautious. Here is what I think I do:
1. Run USPL and wait 5 - 10 minutes until the computer reboots itself.
2. Run either RUU for Tom's B&B or run RUU_Artemis_O2_UK_3.4.206.2_4.1.13.28_02.67.90_Ship.exe
for the UK WM6 upgrade.
And I should be upgraded, right?
If I end up with huge problems, I think I can revert back to the original factory ROM with the file called:
Arteimg.nbh
But how do I run a nbh file?
Which OS is least likely to cause problems?
Please be gentle with me - I'm a 51 year old woman who is in love with my Orbit and can't live without it so I don't want to take any chances to turn it into a brick. On the other hand, I'd really like to have WM6 and can't get it from the UK d/l site because my S/N matches the Hong Kong site. I live in the US and I'm not sure if I want a Hong Kong OS. I have honestly read through these forums and tried to get all my answers here .... but I just want to double check before I make a big mistake and blow up my phone. Thank you all.

don't worry, just run the USPL tool, after running this tool, it will reboot your phone automatically... Than flash your phone with a WM6 rom or the B&B rom... And thats it... make sure you backup your contacts before you do the flash, cause it will wipe all your contacts from your phone.
If you don't like the rom you flashed, just run USPL again, and flash it with another rom or back to factory rom.
If you've got any probs, just let us know... there is a lot of wizards out here, who are willing to help. You also can pm me anytime. I'm glad to help if I can.

You probably do have time USPL take about 3 mins flash of ROM takes about 10-15
However these things are always best to do if you're not in a rush or desperate to get your phone up and running. Also if you put tom's b&b on you'll need about 30 minutes to just play with it

You probably has the WM5 bug or something. With the WM5 rom, sometimes it will mess up your sd card with folders in strange caracters etc...
But you're right, if you want to do this, and its your first time, you better do it when you're not in the rush... just prepare good, sit back and relax, and the flash will be good ;-)
I'm not sure if I'll be able to get online tonight... cause my internet is shut off since friday, my provider can't tell me where the problem is, and how to fix it... So I hope tonight after work, I'll be able to get online at home. And be able to help you out if needed... so fingers cross...

I've been watching this thread and sorry to hi jack the thread. But, this was one of my questions about updating ROMS from original WM5. I haven't gotten the phone yet (P3300), but I want to upgrade it to B&B when I get it. Should I run the patch for the card corruption fix before I do the USPL and ROM flash? Or just go strait to the USPL and ROM update?
I've been reading for a long time but I'm still not very clear on what programs to use to flash and all that. I also want to be able to store my original ROM just in case I want to revert back to OEM. How do I do that?

I'll be using it on T-Mobile, USA. The phone will also be purchased in the US.
BTW, Just to clarify, I'm buying the phone from an online store, so the phone will be unlocked. I'll have to reconfigure it to work with T-Mobile SMS and T-Mobile Web service.
Just run the USPL tool and then the rom of your choice.
If anything does go wrong you can get an original wm5 rom from here
http://rapidshare.com/files/17854890...0_wwe_ship.exe
If you brick your device just go into the bootloader screen and run this it will get you back to wm5 and you can try again.

So I can't "dump" and store my own ROM? I have to download a dumped WM5 OEM from from someone else? I just wanted to make sure that I could put it back exactly the way it was just in case I needed to send it back or ship to HTC for repairs or something.
Also, will they be able to tell that the ROM was flashed and flashed back if I send it in for warranty repairs?

So, just to keep telus update waiters in touch with whats going on with the OTA Froyo 2.2 update.

I will put links to how to resolve different problems later...
If it's not out tomorrow, I think that's gonna be the push I need to make one of those fancy goldcards and install an RUU version of Froyo. What does the telus one have anyway, EDGE disabled?
EDIT: Thanks for collecting this info; more than I knew before.
The telus update won't offer much as I know. They will put some of their crappy apps that you can't delete...add some feature in apps (music dowloading or ringtones downloading... with some downloadable stuff) and thats it.
Any developers on XDA could do this job within 1 week... Htc desire was out on july or august on Telus... and they struggle to get it done in time.
Gold card is not a bad idea at all. Avoiding warranty kinda hurt me.

I got one of the very first Desires from Telus and had it running a custom ROM within three days.
I'm on 2.2.1 now. LOL!
no reason in loosing your mind over this
my phone is currently not working because of radio not compatible with froyo issue. And this RUU might possibly be the only i can fix my problem. No one on this forum was able to give me any help.
Every minute is too long of a wait. RUUs should be out the second a phone is out with the original rom and so on. Not when updates come up and the whole world had time to test those updates..and then..you know what..last minute we notice there's an issue. It's ok, it's not like people stuck in a 3 year contract with a nice paper weight as a phone can do anything about it either..

Root and flash a custom ROM is an easy option... anyone can do it... but like I said... many people don't want to loose their one year warranty...
I'll wait to see what's in the update package... if too many ****ty telus's apps ... I will probably jump in the boat. Unbrand the phone with a gold card and get OTA updates directly from HTC seems to be the cleanest solution for me.
Come on Telus...don't disappoint us ...
btw: More then 50% Desire's owner (Canad) are not with telus... we all bought the phone at full price. And get stucked with telus's apps ( and you can't remove them) will defininetly be disappointing.

No need to do the goldcard thing. You can use Unrevoked.

That could be the reason to why Telus took out the outright price. I'm with Telus and I even bought it outright then gave it off and bought another outright a month later.
And yes Telus are one of the worst for OS updates, the Hero just got the 2.1 update today. And the Milestone has been taking forever.
Good morning canada.

Yeah my phone made a strange noise last night and i figured it was this update.
Telus is the worst with OS updates. It was a full year before the Black Berry os update came to the Storm. I tried to do some freaking out at the store to get a new phone style stuff when they told me the new update just came out. I told them it had been a year- why would I assume it would ever come out?
Ill wait to see what ****ty Telus apps they install (is that what is taking them so long?) before I decide what I want to do. I could unbrand or switch to a diff rom- but I think I like sense.
I can understand the "RAGE" about telus sucking at updates. But why are you guys so upset. they will release froyo, all the **** in it will be old as dirt. no one will use anything from it to build a custom rom. And if you want something good you will flash a custom one.
Its like telling the future, except im pretty much guaranteed to be right.
The only thing if at all im concerned about is the ril and the radio.
And maybe a telus voice call app cuz they have it on my account, but be ****ed if i know how to get it going right now.
As for telus and installing ****ty apps. they have been good about that lately, i expect to see little to no Telus apps on the rom. The 2.1 rom was devoid of anything telus but the home page.
Good is subjective my friend. If you find froyo old as dirt its ok... but four those who want to keep their warranty...we have no choice. The probability of loosing 600$ is enough to not make changes on our phone...that will result on loosing the warranty.
Your are not the first...and not the last person to tell us to root..unbrand and bla bla bla...

Loosing warranty is relative to the knowledge of the user.
There is a pretty easy way to put the device back to factory software if you take the correct steps.
Thats if you have to. If the device is a brick before you return it then no harm.
ive already unrooted a telus desire, restored the stock rom from a nandroid backup (unrooted the backup) then flashed the radio back to the stock telus radio. after this i used fastboot to flash a stock recovery back on and lastly flashed the .83.0001 Hboot with fastboot, removing the s-off hboot. effectively returning the whole device back to stock. with all the correct software version numbers.

It's good to know that it is possible to return to the stock config. I think a lot of us "waiters" would get off the bench if we knew it was possible to go back to stock if necessary.
Juggalo_X, would you consider writing a step by step process for returning a Desire to the stock config? Since you have already done it...
The thread is not about how to flash a stock ROM.
I will pay to see you restoring a stock rom when The screen is dead or when your phone wont start...

I got a Telus Desire, so here is my delema (and question)
1. Like HTC Sense and would like to keep it
2. Have a lot of reason to move to 2.2 (BT dialing)
3. want to root phone
I'm guessing there are stock HTC Desire rom floating around (from the factory unlocked desire) but are those rooted/rootable? I heard HTC has been making it harder and harder for us to root. And will rom for AMOLED work with sLCD phone?

Oky did some more Google-ing and found this, might be useful to you guys

This is the rooted official Desire Rom
don't have time now but will have look through if this will work for our radio and sLCD issue.
if you guys already know, feel free to post and tell us
AlphaX
I tried a similar (probably the same) rom, but from this thread:
hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997
I updated the radio to the latest, everything seems to be good and no bugs that I can see.

There would be no point in restoring a dead device.
I'm under the impression that you think htc checks the flash on every dead device? this is not so. its cheaper for them to replace the whole main board in a device rather then pay an engineer to remove the board put it on a bed of nails dump the rom via jtag routine and then analyze the binary images.
Also, If we're on the topic of paying me to restore a device with a blank screen send me one ill jtag it for fun and restore the device. How much you willing to pay? i need a Desire Z you know
On a side note, In the past 5 years ive probably sent at the VERY least 15 bricked devices back to HTC, WITH software that would void the warranty on them. and i have ALWAYS got my device returned fixed under warranty every single time.

Pretty difficult to believe that. 15 bricked...
Also just about anyone (cell carrier, manufaturer via phone, etc) will tell you rooting, unlocking and modifying (removing bloatware) will void warranty. I have heard of people sending in devices with those and succeeding but not very often.
15 bricked in 5 Sears. A reason to not listen to you. Not everyone has the time to mess with their phones that much...learn to jtag..etc..

[Q] Warranty...?

Hi, Hope some1 can help me!
ok.. so i have been installing custom roms etc within the last couple of months.. the latest one i used was RCMIX3D Runnymede. This was working absolutely fine until one day the WIFI, the bluetooth, and the up and down volume keys all stopped working. When trying to turn on wifi it says Error. same with bluetooth... i have tried absolutly everything to sort this out. different roms etc.. the volume buttons don't even work in bootloader recovery mode!
I have now managed to install the RUU stock rom 1.32 using my laptop.. and still nothing works..
so i'm thinking must be a hardware problem?! and wanting to send to HTC for a repair... thing is.. i am wondering will they know i have rooted and installed custom roms etc?.. as i now have stock rom from RUU and will update to 2.3.5 via OTA on my 3g network..
Is there anything else i need to do? or have i messed up my chances to get my DHD repaired on the warranty?
Really hope somebody can help!! as this is doing my nut!
Cheers
Garry
hardware failure most likely if its not even working in recovery
my vol - doesnt work, im waiting for the day when the vol + goes kaput as well ,, a weak link in an other wise excellent phone
sometime i think engineers at htc went for lunch when it was time to make the volume rocker
Surely somebody would know if rooting etc would void the warranty?! i have stock rom and now unrooted......
I've just sent my phone back for replacement (long story short, HTC didn't repair my phone completely when they were supposed to, I had to take my phone back, didn't have time to replace it, and after some haggling I finally have got them to get a replacement sorted for me). I sent it back rooted, but with stock firmware (apparently Mac users don't exist, and I'm not installing a copy of Windows on my system just to unroot my phone).
Note that in the Nexus One warranty policy, there was a clause "h", which stated that rooting voided the phone's warranty. None of the phones since, whether that be the Desire or the Desire HD, have this clause. So it is safe to assume, and you have a strong point to argue, that rooting does not void your warranty, though if you come to brick your phone, of course, you won't be covered.
There is no other clause, apart from this clause "h", that covers software; it all covers hardware failure.
Finally, there are loads of stories that I've read of people sending off rooted phones for repair, and them coming back rooted, whereas there are few of phones being rooted, and being refused repair. Also, as you will know, to restore the phone to a standard, completely stock, factory fresh state, all you do is run the RUU; sending a phone back when a simple RUU restore is possible, to me at least, would not be economical, both in terms of time and money.
Get it back on s-on using Easy Radio tool v2_2 found here on xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537 and unroot and it should be fine.
However I understand you can´t use volume buttons, but well if you can root the device with visonary then you can do s-on using the tool I mentioned.
After that call HTC explain them your problem and send it for repair. I guess they will not find any traces that you used custom roms and also I heard from several people on www.tweakers.net who used custom roms and even didnt return it on s-on still got there warranty when they had it go for repair.
But most important don't mention about root or custom roms to HTC, aslong as you do that they will probably give the warranty and also HTC is not one doing the repairs it are external repair companies so it might be different for each country.
And yes if you would still have the custom rom on it would void your warranty, that's why I would always put it back to stock if possible, but about root I don't know, but before In returned in my phone for repair I just did a factory reset so that all data was gone and any traces off root.
Thanks for your responses,
I've since found a link on another site.. which shows somebody with the exact same problem and has got HTC to admit its this is a known fault.
http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-support-troubleshooting/300012-wifi-error-bluetooth-wont-connect-volume-button-not-responding.html
i'll crack on with the S-on thingy and call them tomorrow to send for repair or replacement
Cheers again for clearing that up
