AxDroid - Android on Dell Axim x51v! - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

I have managed to run Android 1.5 "cupcake" on my Dell Axim x51v!
You can see the video on my blog:
http://axdroid.blogspot.com

And HOW exactly did you get it to work???
DON'T post JUST the video without telling others how to get it, ESPECIALLY if its someone else's work!!!
Unless of course you are the developer of this whole project, and informing us of your progress.
Anyhow we need the installation instructions with download links. Hopefully you didn't have to use that tedious linux installation from Handhelds.org (with all of that SD card modifications) and then run Android on top of it. I definitely see that you are using HARET BOOT 0.5.2 to switch between OS's, which what all devices use.
Any idea why Wifi doesn't work, and not everything is being displayed in VGA correctly??? Android supports VGA natively.
By the way, would this work on X50v? this is what i have.
All in all, by the looks of it, very interesting and very promising!
It's a perfect way to avoid filesys.exe

I will post the details when I am ready. This is just to tease you
Currently it's only me working on this project. Of course I used some knowledge gained by other porting efforts like handhelds.org etc...
I am using a vanilla linux kernel 2.6.27, on which I have applied Android patches and wrote the necessary driver codes for Dell Axim.
Right now it won't work on x50, but it's not hard to make it work too, just a few lines of driver initialization codes I guess.
I don't have it, so I cannot test for it.
Currently it only works through Haret and boots from the SD card. I think installing this as the primary ROM is the last thing to do, when there's more progress like WiFi, power management, bluetooth etc.

I have not yet worked on WiFi. It may be the hardest part of this effort actually. We'll see...
Actually everything is displayed in VGA and the GUI looks very good, it's very clear. It's just that the background image is not scaled to the whole screen.

my question will be short:
FOR WHAT?? Oo

oh, ok, so you are using Linux as its base. Then why would it also not work on x50v considering that they both run Linux at about same stage, as far as touchscreen, booting, buttons etc...
Also like i said i really don't understand how to format SD card and to set it up properly for linux to run. I would prefer some easy instructions before i screw it up.
What worries me neoMJ is that so many people have tried it working on the device on these forums, and at the end gave up or abandoned the project because of so incompatible drivers. The linux project over at handhelds.org has been dead for along time, and they never got Wifi working. As for Kaiser, it took them like only a few weeks to make it fully functional.

nothin, actually it could be very useful if it was as fully functional as it is on some HTC devices. I honestly hate windows mobile right now because of filesys slowdown, and haven't used x50v for long time. I use ipod touch mostly. You can't get rid of filesys, but you can avoid it by running an alternate OS. Anyways if he can get WiFi to work, the possibilities are endless. (i have Ubuntu Linux installed on PS3, and you can do alot with it with a bit of tweaking) I just don't know how far would this project really go.

i wish you good luck, really, it is great in general, if you are succeded.
i did not want to discourage anyone..
sorry for writing.

I am not sure about that. Linux and Windows Mobile are pretty different actually.

Yeah, that's the problem of reverse engineering. We don't have the specs of the hardware. I have some spare time these days, but I can't promise how far this project will go. It's just fun for me and I like sharing.

Looks really good. Also have an Ax x51v, so would be interested in seeing how this project pans out. Would like to give it a go myself.
Good luck and success!

This is the best linux port on X51v I've even seen. only thing is the wifi / bluetooth connectivity to be concerned. Or this can be the best mobile browser. I have only the X50v and hope I can test this out very soon.

hmm, very nice work..will it also run on a old axim x5 ...would be nice to get that old but fast dude back to work??

Very good work !
For Wifi, HP 4700 seems to use the same chip and Wifi is working under Linux. Maybe this is a way to get Wifi working ...

Looks really promising good luck with the project and have some fun with it.

I cant wait to try this for myself!!!

What happened???
So, what happened NeoMJ? You built up so much hype with your video all around the web, and now you are giving up just like others just like that??? The way u never posted us with a single update for the whole month, tells me that. NOT COOL MAN! Not cool at all.
Anyways, the original video shows that u had everything working well anyways. So, why not send us your beta builds? we need those, unless NeoMJ, u can tell us why u think your beta build is not ready for prime time yet (don't worry about working Bluetooth and Wifi yet)
So, u said u have a working X50v built. Can u send me that please? Ill be definately willing to test android on my device. I'm sure nothing worth will happen other that reformating my SD card, if something goes wrong.
So, please respond to my message. If not, than STOP WASTING MY TIME AND OTHERS!!!
Thank you.

He's releasing an experimental image soon and maybe even the source code!
http://axdroid.blogspot.com/
Hopefully it will work on my X50V

neoMJ where are u
neoMJ hello?????where are u?????
Give it for test....
Thanks anyway..........For that project.

released!
First AxDroid alpha image for dell x51v released!
Thanks.

WM2005 sucks?

Looks like wm2005 still not very stable, a lot of programs still not working.
For example, Xbackup, set as ringtone or Monster Chinese, etc.
well alot of programs required new versions when 2003SE came out as well

Using it on my Imate for a month or more and no problem so far and no lock-ups like there were on WM2003SE
I think the title of this thread is misleading... :?
The fact that it does not run several applications or crashes is because:
1.- This version is not final
2.- It's not compatible because of it's very nature, IT'S A NEW OS!!!
The same happened when we upgraded our PCs to Windows XP don't you remember?
New versions will start to come up eventually, and even if you don't see any advances "right-out-of-the-box" it's because the main improvements on this OS reside behind the scenes, so Programmers will start to develop new and exciting apps that take advantage of the new features and APIs.
For me Windows Mobile 5.0 has been very stable even with the very first version that Buzz, Toe and the gang which had very limited memory resources I had no stability problems whatsoever.
There are limitations of course, (like no MMS, mediocre video camera, sms problems, etc) but eventually Microsoft OR our very own developers will take care of that!
So, BE PATIENT!!!!!
Hi,
Using it for 3 days in my Qtek 2020 and no problem at all.
Even Jabra250 works fine, when in 2003SE was difficult to setup.
About software that don't work, we must wait until new versions come out...
I'm sure when you update you computer from NT to W2K you has software that didn't work and had to buy new versions, so why should be different here?
Be patient.... Mobile5 is ok for now.

i double that
Rayan & all the rest are right!!!
I can't agree less to what Rayan wrote.
It's a new OS and a beta for that matter (check out Goras thread on "WM2005 that I can share"), If I'm not mistaken it's not also intended for Himalaya, judging on the memory problems just solved(!) by Buzz, toenailed, XdaJojo, mamaich & all the other contributors as well.
Personally in my opinion its a lot 'solid' than the WM2003 & SE since it has to crash yet on my xda II, as mentioned by Rayan even the initial release of the OS with limited memory was stable.
The problems with the apps like backup & camera are being solved one-by-one, MMS which doesn't even start before is now working (check out the threads on WM2005 in the forum).
Even now, the benefits of using the OS in terms of performance, stability & looks far outweighs its limitations (in my humble opinion) just be patient & leave it to the WIZARDS (Buzz, toenailed, XdaJojo, etc. etc. etc).
Besides, hey ttseng this is the xda-developers forum & we all are having fun testing, tweaking, & breathing new life to our "soon to be outlawed" XDA II ....... if not for the WIZARDS in the forum !!!!! Notice the request for the OS on the other xda models, aren't we lucky we have the WiZARDS working on the HIMA?
Cheers!
works flawlessly on XDA2 Himalaya!!!!!!!!
best os and most stable one ive come across ,wm200se never really happy but this WM2005 is and has been stable without a single hard reset or rest since install.even self configured the o2email and hotmail!! took the o2 uk config & connections setup file from a XDA2s_1-12-178-WWE_UK_Extended_ Rom.
Is there more than one version of WM2005 kicking about?
I successfully installed WM2005 on my XDA II, but I couldn't get many 3rd party apps to install on it. So I was surprised to see screenshots with certain utilities running ok.
I was wondering if there is more than one version of it floating about on the net. The one I installed was found on these forums, but I have recently downloaded another off usenet.
They are both himalaya.
I am sure a non-beta copy will rear its head on here sooner rather than later (I hope!)
Cam
this version is in the ftp section ,the rom has a file name of
wm2k5_XDA2_HIMALAYA_O2_fullRAM.rar
Yep!
That's the one!
That would make both copies I have the same.
Is this a late BETA or even an RTM version?
Now that the OS has been officially released I am guessing it's a race for someone to post the released version ;-)
the official full version is released?
wow!
so when can we have it for download here?
i am planning to put off my upgrade till the full version comes out.
currently i am on the win2003se which i aint very happy with!
plz advise...
thanx everybody.
It out but you cant get it.
I have a friend who is a manger in Microsoft. I sent the MS link of the offical release and asked if it can be obtained from the internal web software store. At the moment it cant and I feel it will also never be the case (2003 the end user could never buy).
So we are back to the carriers and if they will ship 2005 as an upgrade for ood devices or only on new (MDA XDA IV).
Dont think one needs to be a rocket scintist to answer that, was not one of the devices never shipped with 2003, the way I remember it it was buz that did a Chines to English translation.
So at least w on the BA side have to wait untill something gets leaked.
A little help with WM2005 upgrade please!!!!!!!
I see that most people have upgraded to WM2005 without much trouble, but not me!! I am with o2 and I've just upgraded and I can't us GPRS (it keeps trying to dial 193.113.200.195 and then drops the conx even though the IP is entered in the APN section) I can't run Worldmate pro (not compatable), TOMTOM 3 (need to upgrade to ver 4.4) pick up email etc etc.
Could I have the details that you need to enter into your XDA to connect to o2 network via GPRS so that I can access hotmail, messenger, MMS, Internet etc etc
I hope you can help as I don't want to downgrade to the old windows version.
i can send u a O2 customisation cab file if u need ,however your phone must b on contract with O2UK not payg or orange etc..
Yes Please!!
That'll be great. yes I am with O2 contract.......
where is the awesome rom !!! please
iam running w2005 in my XD2..but still MANY applications cant be installed..and i was surprised to see the screenshot (above) with many applications runing ..BUT i couldnt find the ROM...i found only the one for XDA2s..."XDA2s_1-12-178-WWE_UK_Extended_ Rom" actually is a zipped file with no rom inside..just many cab files ..can anyone help me please...thanks guys

Running Windows Mobile In Nokia N770

Hi to everytody,
This is the firs time I write in this forum, but there is a long time ago that i read all your interesting and wise posts
I have recently changed my pda for a nokia n770, and I would like to know if is possible to make this device work under windows mobile, 'cos linux does not like me too much.
Is there any available rom for this device?
If so, how can I install it?
Many thanks in advance, and my congratulations for you all.
Regards.
CArlos
Absolutlely impossible
No drivers, no software - nothing.
Really?
But if I have seen in You Tube a video where this machine is running under windows xp....
And is there no way to load in any other rom from another pda?
many thanks and I apologize if I have said any nonsense... (my aknowledgements are very limited in this matter)
regards.
dunno about xp - but anyway it is much more possible than n770 running Windows Mobile
it was prob a nokia running remote desktop software
Don't believe everything you see on uTube.
As Redugar suggested it could have been remote terminal software, or a skin that made the device resemble XP or a fake video all together.
According to PC Magazine this device has an OMAP processor (official Nokia site does not provide that detail) so in theory it is similar to our phones.
But if you have truly read this site before you would know that this was asked and discussed many times: Window Mobile can not be installed on a device that was not designed for it.
There must be at least one original version of WM specifically made by the manufacturer for that device.
Only from that it might be possible to make upgrades but not create a version from scratch.
ok,
I read some time ago something regarding the prebootloader system..., that this kind of devices that runs under linux does not have (or it's different)... is this certain?
Anyway, I thought that somebody in this forum might be developed a tool to load this room, but in any case, I repeat that I'm just learning about this devices... in fact is my first one mobile pc running linux...
Many thanks.

Believe it That's their new safety line off Symbian without stepping into WM.
http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS5409534614.html
While they may have the most say in Symbian, but I won't say it is 'their own OS'
Anyway, it is a pity that all these phone companies with Linux OS doesn't seems to be doing much to join forces in any other way. Motorola has some good histroy with their Linux OS.. and yet this Nokia is doing things all their own way.. which well, I'm not sure how that will divide the public developers. Anyway, I had a look at this N770.. it is not that impressive.
"but I won't say it is 'their own OS' "
yeah it started up as a group of mobil companys but dident
everybody else leave the group ?

Hmmm.. now you mentioned.. it seems quite true.. now, as far I can think of, for non Nokia phones, only SonyE's P9xx series is using it, huh?
İt says;
Software:
Operating system -- Internet Tablet 2005 software edition
İt s not talkin about linux, symbian possible by the way Rom upgrade impossible on this device because it cant be connect on active syn, and I dont think so that it has bootloader menu to flash WM6..
Nokia n770 (and n800) runs Maemo. For more info check out: http://maemo.org/.
The nokia n770/800 isnt a pda but an internet tablet.

Linux on Rhodium ?

Does a Linux on Rhodium project exist ?
If not, are there some compatible distros ?
well, it would have to be out for the hackers to start tinkering with. Rest asured that once it is the people here at XDA-dev will be hard at work trying to get android running smothly on it.

Can Android support 800x480 resolutions. I haven't been following up the Android system but most handsets I've seen only support HVGA.
given the fact that they have it running on the touch HD i would say yes it does support it, just companies beleive that more than HVGA is not necessary!

Yeah, it really does work but very buggy. It's looks cool tho. Never thought of installing the Android on the HD. Hope it will finalised so I can try it. If it works on the HD, then maybe it will work for the TP2
well viperbjk is almost at par with jtag and then we can write successful commands on the nand memory of blackstone aka touch hd. once it is done .. the developers will follow up a quckie guide on how to install android on the touch hd. since xmooo, left the project in between ... it has been a dead and for the end users like me and us .. who have only less knowledge of things we wish to learn ..

Yeah, I was reading the discuss thread, it was so long, I only read every other page and saw a lot work done by xmooo... he left the project? I saw the videos he has made and it looked like he was so close to finishing it. What a shame. Hope someone will find a way to finishing the project with cupcakes. I only found out today that this project was going on... I want to find out more now. The only thing that stopped me from getting the magic was it's screen res. Now I know I can get the Android on HD, I getting excited about it being on the TP2.
As Android gets further along in life I'm sure it will become much easier to install on 3rd party phones. Right now it's just a bit of a headache. The tools have to be developed and put in place to handle the wide range of hardware. It's not like PCs where that work has already been largely done. I wish it was as simple as download ubuntu and installing it on a desktop is, but it's not. Someday I think it will be.
So is there any update on developing/porting linux to Rhodium?
Is it possible now for Rhodium to run Angstrom/GPE/Openmoko/Debian, etc?
I would prefer proper linux over Android because of the closed userland of the latter.
PS
Saw this right after posting: Angstrom running on Touch Pro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzZRxEgu440

The video you posted was to VRHologram, not Angstrom on a Touch HD.
As for Android: they devs are working on it, but AFAIK they're still trying to get it to boot. It'll be slow going for a while, but hopefully development will pick up once they get it booting. I personally would love to see a Maemo or Debian distribution for the Rhodium, but we don't have many developers, so it'll probaby be Android for a while. At least once they get the hardware supported in HaRET, other distros should be much easier to run.
Thanks for the update. I have already corrected the youtube link.
Although I enjoy debian on my Universal, I would jump to Rhodium in a heartbeat as soon as it runs debian (or any of its variants). The form factor of Rhodium is just more enticing.

Asus Mypal A6x6 WM6.5.5 rom version 5 (10-5-10)

WARNING: This is a release of Windows Mobile 6.5.5. Due to changes to os code, SOME older programs WILL NOT WORK. By this, I mean that an older program may execute as normal, but some of the menu options might not work due to the start button being moved to the bottom of the screen instead of the top like it was with WM6.5 and older. As far as I know, this is an os thing, so I CANNOT change this.
It's been pretty hectic over the past few weeks with college (and the various tests, quizzes, and computer science projects), and trying to get rom building done. I am sorry that I did not deliver the monthly rom update on time. To make up for that, I will be releasing 2 roms this month (one now and one at the end of the month). This one happens to be a rom with the new interface for WM6.5 (same warning for old programs as my WM6.5.3 rom). For those of you waiting on international version roms with WM6.5(.3), I apologize. I haven't had much time for rom building lately. However, international roms are coming soon (I can promise you that).
Thanks to Makuu (for helping to get me started), Lenny, AstainHellbring (thank you for all the nightly help sessions), the creators of the tools I used to make this rom, and anyone else that I failed to mention in name who gave me the knowledge to complete this rom.
Asus Mypal A6x6 WM6.5.5 version 5
Windows CE version 5.2.25027 (Build 25027.5.0.94)
This was tested on an Asus Mypal A626 (and works). It should work with the A686/A696, but the other models were not tested. Any other models NOT mentioned above WILL NOT WORK.
Updates
1. new Windows Mobile interface
3. os build
4. bug fixes
Additions (since last release)
1. none
Removals (since last release)
1. none
download: http://www.easy-share.com/1912537593/Asus_A6x6_WM655_5.rar
At this time, this will be the only download link. Mirrors will be created in the future (after I give permission).
Instructions (I have included a txt file with same instructions for offline convenience)
Before you do anything, make sure you have at least a 256mb SD card and a card reader (you can get one at a place like Radio Shack or Office Depot). You also need to install winrar (found at http://www.win-rar.com/download.html). Your SD card must be formatted with the FAT16 file system.
To format your SD Card with the FAT16 file system
Step 1: To do this insert the SD Card into the reader and go to "My Computer".
Step 1a: BACKUP YOUR FILES before you start!!
Step 2: Right-click the drive letter of the SD Card reader (differs for each computer, probably either E:\ or F:\ or G:\) and click "Format".
Step 2a: Don't worry about any of the options except for file system, choose "FAT"
Step 3: Click "Start" and wait until it is done
Step 1: Get (OS) rom image
Step 2: Extract files to any folder on hard drive using Winrar
Step 3: Go to the folder where you extracted the files in the RAR archive
Step 4: Make sure that the filename is "CANNES_A_WM6.img"
Step 4a: if the img file it's not exactly "CANNES_A_WM6.img", rename it to that
Step 5: Format the SD card if you haven't already done so using the instructions above
Step 6: Copy the img file to the SD card, see step 6a
Step 6a: Make sure that the img file is the ONLY file on the SD card after formatting
Step 7: Take SD Card out of SD Card reader and put it in the a6x6
Step 8: Make sure that the a6x6 is plugged in via ac adapter before doing the next few steps
Step 9: activate SD Loader using the following instructions {
Step 9a: Hold down the power button and enter button (that's the button in the center of the d-pad)
Step 9b: Double tap the soft reset button while holding the other 2 buttons
Step 9c: After double tapping the soft reset button, keep the other 2 buttons held until a blue screen comes up that says something like Asus Cannes flashing utility
Step 9d: Wait until the process is finished (it's near the end when it says "writing private")
}
Step 10: At this point, your a6x6 should reboot on its own
Step 11: enjoy your updated rom
If you have any questions, feel free to just post or PM me.
As I release new roms, if you have a support question, please give me the rom version so I know what rom you are working with. You can get the rom version from the filename of the rom pack.
Example: Asus_A626_WM614_1
A626 = device (most often it will be A626, will rarely be different), WM614 = os version, 1 = release #
--reserved--
Thanks Steven,
This ROM is great, but because the interface changes in windows 6.5.5 some applications is not alligned well (ex. Settings->Power). And consumes lot of memory (after clean boot we only have ~27M free RAM. So, I'm waiting for standard WM 6.5 ROM with messaging working.
Is messaging not working for you? As for the interface stuff, it's probably because Microsoft designed it that way. For the free ram, I had no idea that you only have ~27mb free (somehow, it worked out better for me). This weekend, I will have some time to look into the ram issue since I'm off for a few days from college on fall break. Is the free ram reading you have right after a hard reset??
For those of you looking for linux updates, I have none due to a graphics bug that has been forever plaguing the A6x6, the issue of it being a landscape device. What happens is the system boots up in what is landscape mode in real life, but the system thinks it's in portrait mode. This has been driving me crazy, but I won't have time for a while to fix it.

Hi, Steven
Messaging is working in v5 and is working now in v4 too after reflash. The interface issue is not your problem, to be well aligned or you must rewrite the Asus applications, or the Asus must release ROM with WM 6.5.5. So I'm glad to see an WM 6.5.5 on my A696 but I think WM6.5 is more usable in A696.
The free RAM is right after hard reset, but I have some programs installed witch starts on boot (Spb PocketPlus).

Fat chance that Asus will make a WM6.5.5 rom if they didn't even make a WM6.1 rom for the A6x6 (I asked Asus once if they would make even a TEST WM6.5 rom with no liability for damages, but Asus was stingy about it). However, I do agree with you that WM6.5 is much more usable on the A6x6 then Wm6.5.5 is (I would even make the case that WM6.1 somewhat outdoes WM6.5 on the A6x6 too). I can't really rewrite the OEM programs since Asus releases no source code.
Correct, all of your work is excellent and without source you can't do anything.

Yep, and without hardware information for the A6x6, Linux progress is much, much slower.

Interesting - I'm looking at upgrading my A696 for the first time - I posted asking for a new A696 ROM over a year ago (possibly under my other account, pdamouse) and I'm very glad it happened . The WM6 it has on it is extremely slow and unreliable and the device itself tends to shut down randomly as of late - especially when using iGo8 but also if I just leave it on the Today screen - it could be hardware but maybe the software fix will fix it. I had it in for service once when it was still under warranty because it stopped charging or otherwise accessing battery power properly.
What would you recommend I install as a first upgrade? I have WM6.5.3 on my Xperia X1 and was thinking I would install WM6.5.5 on my A696 now - but it sounds like WM6.5 v4 of this software is much more usable anyway? So many options - you're recommendation would be great - thanks
Peter
P.S. Thanks very much for all the work you've done on this, I really appreciate it - noticed your sig, will give something when I get this working

Maybe a few questions will help you decide. Do you like the old WM6/6.1 interface and like using a stylus? If so, try my latest WM6.1 rom. Do you like the WM6.5 interface, but want compatibility with older programs? If so, try my latest WM6.5 rom (which is a mix between using stylus and using fingers). Do you like using your fingers instead of a stylus? If so, then go ahead and try the WM6.5.5 rom.
I've got tons of time to wait now, got the SD Card prepped and everything - but the download site doesn't seem to like me, I went through the hoops four times and it's asked me to wait over 20 minutes once, while not giving me the file at any point. At the end I got to the download page and it was just blank and after waiting awhile, nothing ever happened.
Update: Five time's the charm - downloading v4 now.
Interesting, thanks for your reply Steve - I'm trying to figure out how 6.5.5 would make apps that use the stylus not work (Update: I found your note from 6.5.3: "WARNING: This is a release of Windows Mobile 6.5.3. Due to changes to os code, SOME older programs WILL NOT WORK. By this, I mean that an older program may execute as normal, but some of the menu options might not work due to the start button being moved to the bottom of the screen instead of the top like it was with WM6.5 and older. As far as I know, this is an os thing, so I CANNOT change this." - I guess that's how...) - but I'm thinking 6.5 might be my best bet now. I guess I'll have to do more research - I prefer doing all the simple things with my fingers, but if I need to type for example, I like the ability to do things simply with the stylus without needing to switch to number mode on the keyboard, for example.
Thanks for your quick reply
Peter
I've decided to try 6.5.5 first . Unfortunately that means I need to redownload - but only 20 mins or so till it lets me and hopefully the download sys will work properly this time...
I decided based on screenshots of 6.5.5 on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Mobile. Based on that, it looks like 6.5.5 is the same general interface as 6.5.3 which I've been using on my Xperia X1 for the past 3+ months and which I've come to like. I like that I can use my fingers in general - yes it doesn't look quite as good, and maybe the Xperia's 800x480 3" screen has made it so I don't see the larger bar as such a loss - but I've been getting more and more annoyed with the A696's raised screen edge border, especially at the top right hand corner when in portrait mode - on my unit at least, it makes it quite difficult to get at the X with anything but the stylus and I like to be able to use my PDA sometimes without it, especially to just do really simple things like that.
Thank you for your feedback Steven - hoping to try this out this afternoon and will let you know my RAM info as well
Peter
Thanks for reminding me to repost the warning message (with this rom).

Hi Peter,
I think I have the same device. Scary, but it has been in the car hidden away as a GPS backup solution in case my touch HD fails and I am abroad.
What I've read a couple of times is that what you describe is a bad contact between the batt and the device. Some people solved it by using paper to get the batt to have a better contact with the device. Worth looking into I think.
I still have WM5 on it so I better get it out of the car and spend hours of joy

If you want to try my roms, you have to upgrade to the latest (WM6) stock rom in order of release, and then if you want to go back to WM5, I have a backup rom available.
Download and flashed. Seems to be working fine for what I use it for.
Thanks for the update!
It works much better than WM6 that's for sure! Much smoother and faster, I quite enjoy it
I like the new way it works, much easier to use my fingers, and I haven't seen any apps yet that I use being obscured by the thicker bar in such a way that functionality (or even aesthetics) are compromised.
Without installing anything, after a couple of soft resets I now have 29.62mb free RAM on boot. I got one Out of Memory error on iGo8, I will try to tweak the settings and see if I can get it to run smoothly. I'd be curious to know how much free RAM 6.5.3 has on boot, but I'm pretty sure I'll stick with this one if i can get that app to work without a problem - I use it to do tracklogs of my bike commute and it'd be nice to get it working consistently.
Thanks very much for all your work ,
Peter

Thanks for that info lukesan - I will look into it indeed - it hasn't happened yet with the new firmware, but it could be it - there is a sensor on the battery door that turns off the device if it's opened, but I suspect it's not working consistently - perhaps this will fix that and keep the contacts tight. They would just put paper between the cover and the battery? If you have a link talking about it in english that'd be great - thanks

Hi Steven, thx very much for the warning. Luckily I was too tired yesterday to even type so I decided to charge it fully and do the upgrade a couple of days later.
Peter.
I have a A636 but I can imagine this might apply to your, all of our model, too

On another point. I just checked my A636 outside and I have a hard time reading the display in the sun at max setting while my touch HD is alot better.
Is the display going darker? Any problems on that part on your end guys?

I'm not exactly sure about the screen, but I think it might be because of the screen type. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Touch HD seems to have more of a glass-like screen, while the A6x6 (and A636) seem to have more of a plastic-like screen.

[Q] Windows Phone 7 - HTC Tilt 2

Hello,
Did someone ever try to upgrade the Tilt 2 for Windows Phone 7? I saw in the HTC site that is not possible, but I trust more on you guys....
tks!
Do you know how to use the lovely "Search" feature?
How many times has this been answered... NO WE CANT RUN WP7 on our phones
oohhh... tks for the tip about the search... I don't know how I survive without it...
No will never happen...its just not good enough hardware to run it...
WC
You can't just say wp7 isn't good enough for our devices? I've checked out the "surround"...it can have wp7 for all I care
you misunderstand, it's that this phone doesn't meet the hardware requirements for windows phone 7.
What about flashing the htc with android? Instead of loading the linux boot loader and android os on the sd card?
I'd love to make this phone more of an android phone then a dual booted device. Haven't seen it yet. Was hoping it would be possible.

We can't really do this yet because not all of the android builds are stable enough to be flashed to the tilt
Why would you want to DOWNGRADE to wp7. I have tried it and it doesn't matter about the hardware concerns because the software is so ridiculous that I would never use it again
WP7 is a huge step...in the wrong direction.
hypothetically even if you could get wm7 on it, its a slow processor, low ram and no captive touch screen. even if it did work, I would just stick to 6.5 because it would still be much more useable.
Video of Windows Phone 7 on Touch Pro 2; Could this be possible and usable?
I saw a video on youtube of a Touch Pro 2 with Windows Phone 7 (7.3 I believe, I don't know much about WP7 at all), and I have exchanged a message with the ROM creator, and he claims that a version will be ready in December.
Here is a quick link to it: (I can't post a link yet, sorry about the spacing between http)

I wonder if apps can be installed, and wheter or not they're actually usable.
Please look into someone, if you can! =)
Thanks a lot.
