Welcome to Dopod Lite (now D-Lite!)
Latest version is SuperD-Lite! (Links at bottom) If you are new to my roms, I suggest you read through this first post and the rest of the thread so you understand where this is coming from.
There are lots of nice roms out there. So, why put out another? Well, everyone's different, and I think there are folks out there who may be looking for this.
Note: For V1.2 and V1.1 changes, see below! I am leaving the links for V1.0 and V1.2 because they work great, and avoids hassle for those who don't want to bother putting in their own Java VM, (V1.1 and 1.2), or want to use this as a base for further cooking. (Won't work in V1.2)
From my own testing and use, the latest stock WM6 Hermes Dopod rom has proven to be the fastest and most stable of the current official WM6 roms. This is supported by the fact that a number of the well known chefs are using it as their base. (Sleuth, Shaps, and some others) I've been running my own version for awhile now, and am very pleased with it: its ability to sleep and play music, its skip-free A2DP, and its speed.
However, it has a moderate amount of bloat, which can be removed to make it better.
I have stripped the following: Transcriber, Windows Live, VOIP, Voice Commander, Autoupdate, Catalog, Error Reporting (though it still shows in Settings), SQM, Ceipui, Calculator, ClearVue pdf reader, Zip, the less-used ring tones, and the standard movie clip. Probably some other things too. I have also compressed some files to gain free storage space.
The result is a fast, stable rom, with a minimum of clutter, which performs all the basic functions very well thank you: Phone, Internet, Java, Office 2007 (without OneNote), GPS, etc. etc. It is ripe for customizing in your own special way. If you want it to become a developer rom, add that stuff. Add custom themes? Go ahead. Add functionality? Ready and waiting. There's plenty of free memory and storage space: 30.06 meg, and 59.51 meg respectively (V1.0, 6mb page pool). I could have added a few meg to program memory by reducing the page pool from 6meg to 4meg, but I chose not to do that in the interest of maximizing stability and functionality.
I have altered the initial customization routine to do only the basics: set hspda, set acoustic parameters, and a few registry settings. It does not access the extended_rom, so you are free to do what you want with that.
You will have to choose your own radio (or leave the one you have). You will likely want a replacement calculator (there are lots of good ones). You may want a voice dial program (take your pick). You will have to add your own carrier settings. (Cabs are around for most of these.) The start up screens you currently have will stay there. This is an OS only flash.
If people have suggestions and links for additional functionality, feel free to post them!
If you have never flashed a rom before, take care to follow the excellent tutorials available before doing it for the first time. Your Hermes device can be ruined otherwise.
I will try to fix bugs, etc. but this rom is best suited for those who can troubleshoot things for themselves. This is a hobby, and I can't guarantee I'll be around everyday to help with issues. However, I really don't expect a lot of problems, and you can look on the Dopod release thread for some help with things as well. (Not to mention the rest of the site!)
See second post for more screen shots (5 pic limit/post), capture screen program NOT included in rom. Memory stats are as above, not as pictured, because I had that program and file explorer loaded and running.
Version 1.0 links, Includes Tao Java 10_1_7_575 built in, 6mb page pool. Time-tested stability and performance.
V1.0 Rapidshare Link
V1.0 Megaupload Link
Version 1.1: Offered with some trepidation, however since Schaps decided to package two alternative Java VM's I thought I'd give people a choice. In this version I have also decreased the page pool to 4mb, which makes me a bit nervous, but seems to be running ok for me. The final memory results are remarkable: Free storage memory is 61.03 mb, and Free program memory is 32.07 mb at cold boot after customizations! See post for further discussion. (Update: I have added a 6mb page pool version for those who have issues with the 4mb version.)
V1.1 4mb PagePool Rapidshare Link
V1.1 6mb PagePool Rapidshare Link
V1.2 Update: In this version I have gone even further, by removing all .rgu files from the V1.1 base. This eliminates about thirty-five file entries in the Windows directory, and frees up about 200K of additional storage memory. For some operations, this should increase rom speed even more than its already "blistering" pace. The downside to this is that it is unsuitable for those who want to use it as a base for their own cooking. (Except for the RomDonald kitchen, which should still work.)
V1.2 4mb Page Pool Rapidshare Link
V1.2 6mb Page Pool Rapidshare Link
SuperD-Lite: Based on V1.2, and incorporating bepe's new technology of melding extended_rom and storage rom, this version boosts available storage memory to 71mb. Be aware that this flash will wipe out your extended_rom partition. If you are coming from another chef's or stock rom, you will have to reload all your apps, etc. If you are upgrading from one of mine, that is still probably safest, but you can check my last post for an optional method.

Solitaire & Bubble Breaker Question
Hello Edhaas,
Thanks so much for this lite version!!
I was wondering if you have the cabs for Solitaire and Bubble Breaker (when you extracted them I was wondering if you kept them). I have searched and am unable to find them. It seems like they should be readily available but I am unable to find complete versions of their cabs.
Thanks again for this version and your time,
vjgrace
thanks for the base.. i wanted one that i could customize according to my needs
Hi,
Thanks I also wanted a lite rom. Just wanted to ask, since u said it's based on the latest official dopod rom, is it exactly the same with just those apps removed? No special tweaking, interpollating of other devices' roms, other imgfs, etc? (like what the other chefs are doing).Just the official dopod rom itself?
Edhass, care to provide some screen shots?
Edhass, you just did what I was contemplating doing last night!
Kudos for removing that ugly calculator with the buttons I can barely hit with my fingers. I never understood why some chefs left in that calculator while they blinged up the today screen and added nice dialpad skins.

Sorry about the games. It was a tough decision. In the end I took them out because I'd already played them to death. The freeware site in the second post has lots of games, including solitaire. There used to be cabs floating around here for the games, but I'm guessing they were pulled for copywrite issues. If I'm in error, it would be great if someone could post links or update. If you want, I could cook up another version with the games, I think they're around 500k together. It may take a few days though. If anyone else wants them, please post your request.

Feedback
drgopoos - you're welcome!
joecruz - It's all dopod. I played around with using another Java, and some other stuff, but for me the original works fine, and is much smaller. I changed some registry settings, and the initflashes, and removed stuff, but no mix and match in this version. Thanks for asking. Edit: I did change the version of mxip_notify.vol so that I could remove ceipui (phone home).
alancstan - I'll work on that. Basically its a standard WM6 looking rom. It boots into the Windows Default theme, but I've included the standard Guava Bubbles and Mobile Green themes. The difference is in the speed, stability, and available storage. You can make it look however you like!
rob.ocelot - Yeah, the calculator was always one of the first things I replaced when I ran a new rom. There's lots of better options out there.
Noticed that Remote Desktop is taken out as well. This actually works out better for me since you can install it to memory card -- more savings.
Any reason you left the sample pictures and dogbark.wav? (these are some of the first things to go when I start a new ROM)
Edit: Also no HTC X-button, which I almost always turn off. It never did mesh well with the way I use my PPC (closing/minimizing things to get to the today screen just to open the task manager).
I'm very impressed with how snappy everything seems to be!

Thanks for the comments! I chose to leave in the pics because they were really small, and I felt like there was some comfort factor involved for those transitioning from a stock rom. (When opening Pictures and Videos, its nice to have something there so you know its working.) I also sometimes use the dogbark for my alarm. (and its also small)
Actually the version 1.0 of x-button is built-in. This version is small, and its only function is to close an app completely if the x (close) is held down for a few moments. There is no today screen option. (Look in system settings, near the bottom, I think its called taskmgr or something. I've overwritten mine with a later version.) I didn't update it because I know there are folks like you who prefer other task managers, and I didn't remove it because for those who like to close their apps and not hide them its a simple solution.
Best wishes,
Many thanks for the Lite Rom, will try and see if working fine with my x01ht with chinese input.
No problem about the games

Added screen shots
Well, per request I've added some screenshots to the first and second posts. Please note the screen capture app was added after the flash, and that available memory is larger than shown.
Also, we're around a hundred downloads, and I'm guessing the relative quiet here means everything is working great, and the rom is just boringly reliable and efficient!
Best wishes,
Found this rom very good.
On the subject of a2dp skipping, would brief pausing be called skipping? I have parrot mk6000 hands free carkit. It's bluetooth version is 1.2. I realize that bluetooth version 2.0 is downward compatible, could this have something to do with pausing? or is it a processing bottleneck? or buffersize issue?
Thanks in advance

A2DP troubleshooting seems to be a bit of an art. I can tell you that my Plantronics P260 stereo headset streams beautifully and skip-free while running internet radio, or any of the usual music players with the current settings. If I add another app to the mix, the music will sometimes pause while the other app is busy, then resume. If you are running TomTom while streaming internet radio, you might get pauses. Or, the 1.2 bandwidth could be an issue also in that case.
I did a mini-search and found a posting by pocc that might be helpful for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1406333
Generally though, the current thinking is that usejointstereo should be "1", and all the "bitpool" settings should be deleted for the best sound. See here. Which is the way I set this rom at default. If you do want to tinker with these settings, I suggest using one of the custom tweak apps, or getting a registry editor. Let me know if you need further help.
Regards,
IMO it would be useful to compare the new WM6 ROMs regarding the memory leaking. I mean mainly the ROMs with Home Plugin and/or Cube, because they proved to be quite memory hungry.
I think the latest versions should be counted: Tom's B&B 4.3, Meschle's Touch 3.0 and/or 3.01, and Vanilla 2.0, Bepe's build 0.53, maybe Fracoon's 2.2 too. But every experience on any rom regarding RAM decrease can be interesting.
I launch this thread because, as I see, this problem is the weakest point of many cooked rom (and maybe of the official versions too). So, let's say: after a half-day-long usage, without soft reset but running e.g. Tomtom, Windows Messenger, Ms Office, any music player etc. how much free Program memory (RAM) do you have? (Before measuring close all programs and run Hibernate once.)
I konow it's impossible to have an exact picture since every PDA is different, some owner-installed programs can be a big memory-consumer, but anyhow, sharing our experience might show some tendencies and help us to choose the ROM nearest to our needs.
So I begin:
Currently using Tom's 4.3, after half a day of normal usage it's around 18-19 M (from 25). -- IMO it's not bad, I've heard about far bigger leakage.
My previous rom was HTC official WM6 (3.13.405.1 WWE) it also started with around 25 M and 'ended' with 20 M. (but it doesn't have Cube).
cheers,
I've tried with meschel artemis touch 2.1 lite with cube and 3.0 lite with cube.
about 12.5 MB with first one and about 19.8/20 with other.
Great work, meschle!!!
Bye
I had Meschle's Premium Plus w/o cube and it averaged about 16-17Meg. Now I've got the Touch 3.01 and I get as low as 13Meg but I'm also running MS Voice Command which is a huge memory hog. If I didn't have MSVC I would prob still be at 16-17Meg with the programs I have running. The official WM5 P3300 ROM left about 18-19Meg avail on average.
You need to run hibernate!
I have tried different ROMs and found a workaround which up to now is not very convenient but effective: Use "Hibernate" after closing each application oder settings tab. This small app is included in many cooked ROMs, it releases memory.
First thing I do after a soft reset is using hibernate since it releases about 1-1.5 MB and that gave me at best times 28 MB RAM, I think that was with B&B v3.0 GER.
I think it is possible to combine the X-Button with hibernate through MortScript. MortScript is a Scripting tool for WM and can automate certain things, since you have to be familiar with programming and need a lot of patience I still didn't try it.
I don't know if Wisbar is able to perform two tasks when pushing the X Button. Then you could assign it to closing the app and then starting hibernate. Maybe I will ask the programmer if he will produce a version without the window that shows up every time, then it would be perfect.
I assigned hibernate to one of my buttons, when I close big apps I always run hibernat.

Yes, I also often use Hibernate. I assigned it with HButton to teh OK/Close button (first function: close; scond: Hibernate).
I assumed that almost everyone use it, that's why I suggested in the first post that even the measuring should be after closing all apps and applying Hibernate.
Guys i'm looking for clean wwe rom with wm 6.5 and manilla 3d 2.5 .I'm looking for some few day already and I couldn't find one. Please recomend me one . tnks in advance
me too, .
I am also looking for a ROM that isn't loaded with unwanted applications. I have tried four so far and each one has an app that I can't update or remove. I just want to be able to pick what I want and just what I want. So far my searches have come up with nothing, are there any roms either out there or in development that are just the OS and nothing else?
I agree. What I seek is a straight and clean stable build of 6.5 with no frills or HTC customizations.
so , i see i'm the only one who wants to use clean roms. Is there somebody who can cook already cooked rom but without odd programs. Just the programs which are included in original HTC roms and may some with help the devices to work proper with new manila 2.5.
6.5
Hello,
As far as I can see, there are some modern, clean 6.5 builds without HTC customizations, see the forums.
What we are looking for here is a 6.5 build with Manila 2.5 and its associated HTC apps just if It was a recently bought new terminal.
If the HTC pictures seen those days are real, I think they have RTMed with 6.5 builds and not with 6.5.1 buils (see start at the top and thick bottom bar). I think this is more convenient for Manila...
Regards
I think if its possible to make something like categories witch separates different rom types. For example clean, with one kind of nesasary programs and another kind witch are custom made like where are added different themes and additional programs. May be somebody can add a new post where they are discribed and add links to the post where the roms are added. So , if somebody wonders witch one to choose will have them in one place and will not be forced to search several pages.
Many clean ROMs have "CLEAN" in their thread name. So... does it ring any bells? If you search the "Diamond ROM developement" for, um, lets say the phrase "CLEAN 6.5", and check the "search only in title" (or sth like that), it should be enough to find clean 6.5 roms.
As for the manila 2.5, as i know, it's still in developement (which you should know, if you bothered to dedicate 30 minutes to reading the only two threads including "manila 2.5" in their title), and there are ONLY TWO (2) roms with manila 2.5. One is 6.1(Sun.Y) and the other is 6.5(Sun.X).
Oh...and yes..there is a search function on this forum Did i point that out already?
EDIT: Oh...and there is Eugenia rom, which actualy uses work from the Sun project...as far as i know. Correct me if needed..
I'm sure not only me and the others used search and read the forum for nice rom . But the most roms even clean ones have program witch are not useful for some of us and use additional memory. Otherwise I totally agree with you - there is still i think a lot of time until we see proper manilla 2.5 working on our diamonds. cheers
Well. My advice on searching roms is: Look only in the first two or three pages, beacuse those roms are actively updated. When it says [FINAL] in the rom topic title, that's even better. If you are looking for a stable and fast rom, try to avoid BETA releases (altough, some work pretty well). As for ram consumption... 6.1 roms are (from my experience) more ram friendly than 6.5 rom. BUT a 6.5 rom with titanium enabled is more ram efficient than a 6.1 rom with Manila 2.1. Also, big ram consumera are non-WM default dialers. They can take up to 10-12mb of RAM. You can disable them, and enable the default WM dialer (search the threads...it can be done via CAB or AdvancedConfig), but that brings problems while using manila 2.1 (and 2.5 i think). Don't worry too much about "unuseful" preinstalled software on [CLEAN] roms, beacuse well they can take up some space on your phone memory, but usualy don't eat RAM, unless you run them.
I actually don't use CLEAN roms, beacuse i find some medium loaded roms more usefull (see my signature). With my rom i have no problem running IGO8 or listening to mp3(s2p) while surfing the net with opera. And that is while i get around 74% used RAM after a day of usage (62-65% on clean boot). RAM is meant to be used, and don't get frightened if it sometimes jumps up to 80% (a friend of mine has 11mb of free ram on an Ipgone 3g, and that thing still flies...beacuse it actuall uses ram (efficiently!!)).
My 2 cents. I hope it helps you find the right rom.
EDIT: oh, and CleanRam is a pretty useful app... (on level 2 or 3)
thanks a lot for this full answer mate I hope it will be useful not only for me, but for everyone who needs help about looking for new rom.
I've settled for BsB for the moment (the 6.5 variant).
NOTE : THIS IS NOT A TECHNICAL THREAD - THE REASON FOR THIS THREAD IS - TO REQUEST THE COOKS
Hi everybody,
Im a Diamond Lover and searching for its ROM's which is best suited to it. In my opinion WM 6.1 is the best one for Diamond. So far I tested nearly 40 ROMs (Wm 6.1 & Wm 6.5) and finally i sticked to MEMO Rom.
My question to u all is
What are all the things do U need in a ROM
I start the list with my wish list.
1. Bug free
2. Faster
3. Graphic enhanced
4. More free memory (65% usage is ok)
5. CHT Enabled
6. Facebook TAB
7. Tweeter TAB
software should cooked with ROM are
1. GPS Cycle Computer
2. Google Maps
3. Clean ROM 2.2
4. PIM Backup

Here i attached this Pretty useful one.
Classic Menu
I Like the Classic Menu in Sense 2.5 (Which is available in MEMO ROM) a nice one
transparent taskbar and softkey bar
Colored Notification icons
What about MAXSENSE - any opinions?
U asked
No GPS lag. Come on build a rom with radio if it fixes this issue. I have had no lag on a rom before but can't remember when or what it was. I had an acurate fix though.
Core player ( I know some cooks add this to their roms)
All images optimised (ALL of them even manilla/sense) Save a few meg for Apps

YES! Core Player & Cookies HT are some of the best i've ever seen
21 Votes and 13 in favour of WM 6.5. But i totally not agree with WM 6.5
The reasons are
1. WM 6.5 is not for Diamond
2. All WM 6.5 Rom-s are not error free
3. Absent of classic menu
but 13+ mmm

There's Energy Rom and another rom that i don't remember but was wm 6.1
65% of ram usage with sense 2.5 and CHT enabled..you had a nice dream this night
btw imho things like facebook app, google maps,fim,etc.. should not be cooked in,so everyone can install the latest version via CAB after flashing the rom.
Quick GPS
Total Commander
Opera mini
JAVA
MaxSense is nice but too much memory consuming
As far as I am concerned
- Bug Free
- Memory left (at least 30%, so I will be able to install TT)
- Tweeter & FaceBook tabs
- Weather and My Location working
- FRA or WWE
- SENSE 2.5
It should be smooth and efficient
I also like
- Phone Keypad, on SMS Writing.
- Fast Camera, taking photos.
It's very important!
