Here's a tweaked developer version of the original CE 5.2.1413 Kernel equipped lvsw ROM
I've tested it and so far have not seen any battery or processor issues. The included taskmanager shows 80-90% idle with the remainder taken up by the taskmanager application itself.
v1.1 of this ROM includes:
everything in v1.0
GLYPHCACHE limt re-optimized at 32,768
Mobile Office 2K7
HTC X-Button v1.5
ClearVue PDF viewer removed
v1.0 of this ROM includes:
4MB Paging File
packaged with Tadzio's tools but exe's not compressed
glyphcache/cachsize optimizations
A2DP optimized for highest Fidelity (A2DP patch is not included).
additional apps: GSFinder+, DotFred's Taskmgr, PHM Regedit, SIPChange, Austinboy's Fieldtest
VoIP optimizatons: dialplan normalized for US calling (default areacode is 262 on 7 digit calls), connect over 3G as well as WiFi enabled
Live Search today plugin is set to use Google and works just fine when spaces are part of the search term
As always, because its targeted at developers, this version has the Extrom hidden and all customizations are disabled on initial start. Note: this will disable the video calling tweak. Manually install video calling phone skins if you wish to use Video calling with this version.
Free storage memory is about 45MB and free program memory is 25-30MB. Displayed Today screen items have been reduced and re-ordered in this manner (note: the additional plugins are still present, just unchecked in Today settings):
Date
Live Search
Internet Calling
Owner Info
Email messages
Appointments
The installer will also upgrade your splash screens to the "Sun Rising over the earth" HTC theme from page 1. Your Radio, IPL and SPL will remain unchanged. This is a SSPL only installer so you must be connected with ActiveSync. Then, just execute and it'll take about 5 minutes to install.
Download v1.1 now from RapidShare. High speed download from Chamelion
Download v1.0 now from RapidShare
As before, send any donations to LVSW since I'm using his base here.
v1.1 Release Notes (check back here periodically for updates)
Mobile Office 2K7 is the latest beta release. It's here because this is a developer ROM. Here are the known issues:
OneNote can't rename or delete notes
vp3G found the registry problem that causes this issue! The fix can be found here
The very first time you run Pocket Excel, nothing happens (this only occurs once)
In Pocket Excel, tools->Save As is actually tools->Sort
Here are the known HTC X-Box issues.
On the Today screen, changes the font on SPB weather and SPB Time to Black (only happens if "Enable Today X button" is selected) SPB has posted a fix for SPBWeather as it seems there are other today screen apps that cause this behavior too. You can download the fix here
Unable to add programs to the exclusive list without reghacks.
There are a few other unconfirmed issues as well but no major show stoppers. Its included in this build because the Today screen close button feature is just too damn cool (and a pretty blatant SPB Pocket+ ripoff btw) to not let you folks play with. Heck, this is a developer ROM & its followers need to see this app firsthand (and perhaps run it through IDA Pro too )...
Please post your XP with these issues; I believe the OneNote problem is solvable without having to revert to an older version. This is why I included it here. X-Button may or may not work better with this kernel so let me know if it is experiencing issues and what other apps you might be running with it!
v1.0 Release Notes (check back here periodically for updates)
To improve display performance change the following value from 16384 to 32768:
HKLM\System\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\limit
I've been unable to reproduce streaming A2DP in powersave mode since the first time I tried it btw... I'm working on this; the rom I was using was a descendant of this release & I just assumed it would work... sorry...
Great work Sleuth, will try soon, thanks.
any chance of an unpaked version, as i like to recook mine
Sleuth dude, you are a bad, bad man.
I finally get the phone how I like it, and now you tempt me with another developer version...
Well, I downloaded it, now to see how long I can resist flashing it.
As a great contributor to XDA community, would you mind to hexedit the version to 5.1.195 ?
Most excellent.
Thanks man
giving a try now. thanks!!
..oh I am getting that itch back... ..a man gotta flash what's a man gotta flash... thanks sleuth, u da man!
Thanks Sleuth255
One more big thanks for you. with people like you (and fortunatelly we have more) ths community has the future granted. Congratulations.
Wifi issues
Thank you for the release! However, I'm having Wifi troubles and I was wondering if there were any changes made regarding this issue from the LSVW release. I'm experiencing quirky behavior where the a certain network would be available for connect and when attempting to connect, that network suddenly becomes unavailable on the device. It's a strange behavior.
UPDATE: After doing a clean reinstall, I found that the Wifi problems I had before is gone. Everything seems stable (BT, Wifi, GPRS all seem to work well with no drops or problems). It seems like a clean slick build. I have the usual problem of Messaging menu disappearing when I click the REPLY button to either an email or txt but this is consistent with all of the other cooked roms I have encountered. Overall, it's a very nice build. Thank you again.
Well, I tested this ROM pretty extensively on my 802.11G network here. I remained connected for well over an hour until I terminated the test. I was using a Linksys WRT54GX2 access point.

Well, its a developer ROM so I'm afraid I need to leave the version alone. Developers working with this ROM may build code that depends on the major/minor version numbers being correct. This is a major update to WM6 IMO and the versioning is what distinguishes it to an application.

Just open the exe with WINRAR and extract ruusigned.nbh. You can strip out os.nb with pof's nbhextract.

tried that but get the divide error, if its possible to have the windows.nb b4 tadzio is used onit, for me i remove all the unnecsary windows junk such as the music stuf window live pdf powerpoint etc, as i only need a very bare bones os...lvsw is the best as far as im concerned but i lik to recook the os
I only cook with tadzio's tools. I didn't think that caused an issue with re-extracting tho. I'm checking it now... I'll post os.nb if this is the case.
edit:
worked great. I extracted ruu_signed.nbh using WinRAR v3.50 then pulled os.nb and the splash screens using pof's original nbhextract v1.0.
Don't use OliPro's nbdump program as it'll blow up.
Any alternative download link? I'm can't download from rapidshare.
Thanks
im using koch to remove files from the os.nb, but when it tries to dump the nb file it gives an divide by zero error...evry thing else runs fine
better alert dutty ITMT, just download pof's nbhextract and use that to get os.nb.
seems i cant rextract it once its been run thru tadzios...both app extract the nbh fine just cant extract the resultant nb though, as thats what i want to play with
Guys,
Been testing the various roms available for some time now, XDALive, Black, Schaps etc but just can't find a single Rom that allows the phone to function as its supposed to, i.e. Fast, efficient and usable.
XDA Live and Black appeared to be great at first, until I installed TomTom and a few other minor apps, at which point they just slowed until the phone took 2/3 seconds to come out of standby, and when ringing the phone, it wouldn't even make a sound until the 2nd/3rd ring!?
Yesterday I flashed to Schaps and its even worse, before installing ANYTHING extra! 3/4 seconds from standby although it is a great looking rom.
Just seems a real shame, is the phone's hardware the limitation or is there a Rom out there that really does make a good job of enabling the best functionality from the Hermes??

Same-same feeling here. Tried all, still can't get the reliability and responsiveness of original WM5 Jasjam ROM. It's not a rant and of course I can always go back, but it makes me wander never the less..
Edit 15:30,
Well after such a statement I guess I owe some specifics:
- Hermes 100 and 200
- SPL-2.10.Olipro
- IPL: 1.04
- Radio: v1.43.00.00
- Tried the various available RTM versions, much too slow responding, haven't resolved the SOD problem for me
- reverted to what I consider to be the most stable and comfortable release - LVSW 19/5 (elf edition), still experience SOD but apprx. once in 24 Hrs. Still makes the WM6 Hermes unreliable as a phone, since for those unfamiliar with SOD, it means that while actually frozen, the phone looks externaly to be OK and working, respective LEDs blinking. Tried all solutions known and yet some.. drafted to this some heavy dev colleagues but still there.
Frustrating isn't it, perhaps the Hermes just isn't ready for WM6, would be logical as they haven't launched the Hermes OEM with WM6 yet have they?
Cheers, Ash

Sleuth255, you are counted with the serious in my book, so I should definitely do so. At the moment I kind of stabilized my devices (less than a SOD in every 24 Hrs. time frame), and I am pretty dependant on my phone.. but... at same time I've a XDA-dev soul, so I don't count on myself to withstand the temptation to try yours...
However Ash's quest remains. WTF happens with WM6 on the Hermes. No disrespect to those praising it, but if it doesn't work here, it most probably doesn't work elsewhere if you push it to same limits I do.. And where is HTC's RTM. I would expect it's core to be reasonably well, then use it in the kitchen for "our flavours", but apparently RTM is not there yet, or is it RTM ?

In any case Ash's quest remains. WTF happens with WM6 on the Hermes. No disrespect to those praising it, but if it doesn't work here, it most probably doesn't work elsewhere. At least if you push the envelope to same limits I do.. And where is HTC's RTM. I would expect it's core to first be reasonably solid, then use it in the kitchen for cooking our flavours, but apparently RTM is not there yet, or is it RTM at all, and if it is how come it ain't published on HTC support site yet ?
Questions..questions... but it's fun, isn't it ?
HTC's core CE/XIP for hermes was RTM as of v5.2.1238 and is quite stable IMO. It's the IMGFS that's buggy.
Hermes has always had issues coming out of standby and this delay is what affects the time the call connects to the time you hear the first ring. I noticed this the very first time I tried my TyTN (coming from a Wizard).
I've always wanted to uncover the specific code that handles this because there's also a nagging bit that forces portrait mode as a workaround for the magnets in the case Because of this, I have to disable standby whenever I'm using my stowaway bt keyboard.
edit: SOD could be solved as well by dis-assembling this code...
Sleuth, I agree with you (again). And you are also very right on RTM (I happen to be somehow..remotely... connected to them people in Redmond, but I shouldn't exploit this subject too much here.....
Anyway it's pi__ing me off quite a lot and the "Israeli Team" has given SOD a good chunk of time to no result. What amazes me is that this is one Huge issue that doesn't ring an alarm at HTC's.. BTW assuming that under the hood Hermes 100 and Hermes 200 are one and the same (so says my favorite CTO), I can't understand how would my JasJam (original WM5 ROM) be bullet proof in respect to SOD, while my TyTn showed SOD and call delay on WM5 as well. Maybe all Hermesses weren't born equal (and I refer to the latest crop, post childhood issues).
I happened to work with HTC and I know them to take stuff like this seriously. What happens here ....
So can we conclude that the Hermes wasn't ever *supposed* to run WM6, hence why all the WM6 roms just simply don't really work very well once you install just a couple of apps? Some without even installing supplemental programs?
I can't conclude that. WM6 works wonderfully on my hermes. I can conclude at this point that the device has some powersave related ideosyncracies that may or may not be software related. This is why I'm interested in your XP with my ROM.

I agree with Sleuth, WM6 works so much better on my TyTn than WM5... In every way.
Ok, the (slight) wakeup delay at phonecalls is there but certainly no more than with WM5. And Sleuth's new ROM is very stabile, pretty fast and with very little memory leaks.
At least it is in my case...
Ive been using WM6 releases for hermes since they first surfaced
my favourites are
Schap's WM6 Pro 3.30c
LVSW (latest June release)
Windows Mobile VI Pro - Black 2.5
I don't use Device for gaming at all
I use It strictly for work, this means:
Organizing my day with SBSH PocketBreeze
Chatting with Live messenger
see the weather news with weatherPanel (Schap's ROM replaced my choice of weatherpanel)
I work with/edit simple word documents on the road and e-mail them
Take many photos and record videos
and also watch big videos 22~50megs in both .wmv and .3gp format
Surely some ROM's were a real pain and unstable
with the above mentioned ROM's
My device Is stable and fast
Reading around thoughts and opinions surely will help many new to the PDA scene and surely will reward them with knowledge and make their WM experience more fun and useful rather than adventurous and experimenting
Definetely my TyTN is more useful fast and stable now with WM6
rather than when It was fueled with WM5
Just my 2 cents

Same here, I'm very pleased with WM6 (currently vp3G). I've installed some apps and its faster and more stable than before. I have no freezes, no sleeps of dead, no lock ups - with none of the Roms.
Programs in use:
Always running:
.) ILauncher
.) PhotoContactsPro
.) BatteryStatus
Installed:
.) Mobipocket Reader
.) SK Tools
.) Vijay's Brighter Screen
.) enAlarm
.) GS Finder
.) Total Commander
.) PocketIrked
My first WM6 ROM was the XDA Live.. then I started playing with the free storage.. created modified XDA Live ROM ( later called "WM6 Brick" because it wouldn't boot for ppl without MFG BL).. anyway.. a week later I bricked my Hermes completely trying to get it working with all BLs.. Then I was out for 2 months.. as my Hermes was being repaired..
When it came back I started flashing it with different WM6 roms.. (I guess I liked it much more when there had been only one wm6 rom available). They've all looked nice.. but none of them have been stable. I don't care so much about the speed.. but I hate when it freezes while I am scrolling the file list in the built-in Explorer.. and this happens with all WM6 roms I've tested.
I guess that at some point it will be stable enough for me to use it.. but as I don't need html-emails.. or sd-card encryption I guess I'll stick to WM5 for a while :/
I've tried:
Custel 2.5
ALL of the Blacks
Elf's 2.1
LVSW
Faria
I am with Custel 2.5 right now and I love it. No sleeps of death here.
I'm running:
SPB Pocket Plus
SPB Weather
SPB Phone Profile
IM+
Today Agenda
MobiReader
Google Maps (Latest Build)
MortgageCALC
After being "awake" for 12 hours, I still have 23.4 MB of memory avail. with normal usage.
I don't do any media on my phone; I don't even have the media net settings loaded to my connections. I use it strictly for business: direct push mail, text message between the contractors, phone calls, scheduling and looking up houses, google search quite a bit and the PIM software.
Perfect ROM for me:
4mb pagepool
HTweak 1.5
Windows Media Player (for ring tones only)
Office 2007
RedEdit
NO Task Manager
Java Manager
Internet Sharing
NO Streaming Media
NO Audio Manager
PocketRAR
The updated file explorer that's floating
NO Live
NO Messenger
Unfortunately I'm not a cook.
Jim
I have tried both the Elf V2.1 and the BlackShadow and both have worked very well for me so far. I have so far only added the following external apps:
1. Ateksoft Webcamera Plus
2. Adobe Flash Lite 2.1
3. Adobe Reader LE 2
I definitely love my phone now even more so than when I first bought it when it came with WM5.
ROM, Radios, Carriers, Phones each has its own benefits, if you put some together they dnt work, you can change one thing it could work.
i can honestly say that i have only had problems with the early blacks, shadow works fine for me, wheras others worship black 2.5.
personally i always use sleuths roms they definately the fastest & most stable (for me anyway!!)
One last tip
Unless you are in the UK dont use radio 1.43 it is designed for the UK and not too good elsewhere

I think my v3.0 *almost* fits your "perfect rom"
Hi folks,
Really... I don't know about everyone else but I'm getting really pissed with the general usability of WM6! There is no single ROM that would just offer all the bits and pieces of a full working, polished, feature complete WM6 implementation.
I've been trying all available ROM images (Pdaviet, Mun's, Dopod Official etc) and up to now I haven't been able to find a single solution that would "just work".
On the new Official ROM there is no VOIP support (SIP is nowhere to be found), my Memory-Stick (4gb SDHC) becomes inaccessible from time to time, all the filenames start showing up as strange characters strings and it only goes back to normal after a soft-reset.
I'm sure your mileage may vary but up to now I've had no luck with WM6. Sure it is faster than WM5 but as a software engineer I would not consider it as being more than a beta quality release.
So... any thoughts on:
- Is it possible to get SIP working on WM6?
- Is it possible to get Video calling working?
- What about a stable memory card? (Yes, I've tried TrinityHack)
Best,
M Addario

Yes... I know... My questioning is more on "why in hell is an official ROM allowed out when it seems clearly not ready for the end user". Even if there is a way of fixing all the mentioned problems I strongly feel that such basic, obvious things, shouldn't be broken to start with, at least on an official release.
I just hope Mun's Indigo comes as a final solution.
:/
Would it not be better if like the Open Source Community we concentrate our efforts on a single ROM that is considered a good quality base and then improve that to the stage of a polished ROM? At the moment I would vote for:
HTC_Trinity_3.00.07.09.PV.rar
as it is updated more frequently than most. Also we can then add custom packs to the ROMs which people can download e.g.
Base WM6 Rom version (continually updated by the community with minimal pro grammes, whereby each version addresses fixes)
Pack 1 - Office 2007 Apps (6.1)
Pack 2 - 3rd Party Tools e.g. Sprite Backup etc.
Pack 3 - Customizations etc.
You get the picture...

dear friend, no offence to you, the cookers in xda-dev are doing it out of passion and for the benefit of fellow recipients like me. Of course they have their own preferences and flavors. if you would like to have YOUR-ALL-IN-ONE, then i think the best way is for you to cook one yourself. if not, then live with what's available. The official-official dopod rom is out for download on the OFFICIAL HTC WEBSITE. i am sure you can find some mirror sites for download.
Keeping it simple...

You see.... I totally get what you mean. Though I don't think that the way to go would be necessarily concentrating on a single ROM version but rather in keeping each one "clean". By that I mean the current biggest problem with all the cooked versions (in my view) is exactly that each developer does what he thinks is best, adding and removing stuff at his will... well... of course they are doing it and they feel like doing it the way they please but when it comes to please everyone else it is almost impossible to keep this track.
It would be SO MUCH easier if the ROMs were provided in the cleanest possible way and alongside with them a pack of CAB files that you could use to add the features you fancy.
By the way... I just noticed that using X-Button to close any app accessing my SDHC memory card causes it to go totally nuts... If I just leave them open everything is OK so it is if I use other task manager to close them (that is using the latest official dopod ROM).
Best,

If you are a software engineer why dont you make your own rom how you want it. I appreciate the fact that there are developers here that make great roms and then share with the rest of the community.
I´ve also been noting that battery consumption is still crappy...
Yesterday evening I fullt charged the battery, today I have: watched a 1 hour video with Coreplayer using original headphones, made a 8 min. phonecall over normal GSM network, installed (tried to install ) comm managers and dialpads, soft resetted about 5 times and surfed the web for about half an hour. Now I have one bar left on my battery meter...
Is this normal? It seems a very short battery life for me...
IMO the official ROM is ridiculously unstable. A2DP is pure crap, WMP crashes randomly, phone will freeze randomly, ISP settings disappearing after soft reset, general slowness in GPS apps like Navigon, Destinator, IMO lower call quality; just to name a few. I did not have any of these problems with AX3L's ROM or any of the "unofficial" ROMs. I'm flashing back to AX3L's ROM tonight as the crap A2DP is inexcusable!
I'm using Dopod SEA and it has no problems
Hello,
I'm using Dopod ANZ and it has no problems.
But one question for the ANZ Radio :1.46.30.11 what is the difference with the SEA Radio (1.46.0.11) ??
Private69.
@++++
I have a problem with SEA ROM... Caller ID (Name) not detected at all... Only Caller number appear on the screen... Any help?
I had to revert back to AXEL's ROM because of all the freezing the 'official' ROM did to my phone.

I use the Australian ROM and am happy with its functionality. It does exactly what was expected, considering it is really WM5 with a few enhancements. I think its easy to criticise WM6 for what it doesn't have, but perhaps you should look at the improvements that have been made from previous versions.
Granted there aren't that many (HTML mail probably being the one significant update) but Microsoft doesn't really have any comparable competition with the PDA/Phone market at the moment. Perhaps Apple might inject a bit of competition into it with the iPhone.
Welcome to Dopod Lite (now D-Lite!)
Latest version is SuperD-Lite! (Links at bottom) If you are new to my roms, I suggest you read through this first post and the rest of the thread so you understand where this is coming from.
There are lots of nice roms out there. So, why put out another? Well, everyone's different, and I think there are folks out there who may be looking for this.
Note: For V1.2 and V1.1 changes, see below! I am leaving the links for V1.0 and V1.2 because they work great, and avoids hassle for those who don't want to bother putting in their own Java VM, (V1.1 and 1.2), or want to use this as a base for further cooking. (Won't work in V1.2)
From my own testing and use, the latest stock WM6 Hermes Dopod rom has proven to be the fastest and most stable of the current official WM6 roms. This is supported by the fact that a number of the well known chefs are using it as their base. (Sleuth, Shaps, and some others) I've been running my own version for awhile now, and am very pleased with it: its ability to sleep and play music, its skip-free A2DP, and its speed.
However, it has a moderate amount of bloat, which can be removed to make it better.
I have stripped the following: Transcriber, Windows Live, VOIP, Voice Commander, Autoupdate, Catalog, Error Reporting (though it still shows in Settings), SQM, Ceipui, Calculator, ClearVue pdf reader, Zip, the less-used ring tones, and the standard movie clip. Probably some other things too. I have also compressed some files to gain free storage space.
The result is a fast, stable rom, with a minimum of clutter, which performs all the basic functions very well thank you: Phone, Internet, Java, Office 2007 (without OneNote), GPS, etc. etc. It is ripe for customizing in your own special way. If you want it to become a developer rom, add that stuff. Add custom themes? Go ahead. Add functionality? Ready and waiting. There's plenty of free memory and storage space: 30.06 meg, and 59.51 meg respectively (V1.0, 6mb page pool). I could have added a few meg to program memory by reducing the page pool from 6meg to 4meg, but I chose not to do that in the interest of maximizing stability and functionality.
I have altered the initial customization routine to do only the basics: set hspda, set acoustic parameters, and a few registry settings. It does not access the extended_rom, so you are free to do what you want with that.
You will have to choose your own radio (or leave the one you have). You will likely want a replacement calculator (there are lots of good ones). You may want a voice dial program (take your pick). You will have to add your own carrier settings. (Cabs are around for most of these.) The start up screens you currently have will stay there. This is an OS only flash.
If people have suggestions and links for additional functionality, feel free to post them!
If you have never flashed a rom before, take care to follow the excellent tutorials available before doing it for the first time. Your Hermes device can be ruined otherwise.
I will try to fix bugs, etc. but this rom is best suited for those who can troubleshoot things for themselves. This is a hobby, and I can't guarantee I'll be around everyday to help with issues. However, I really don't expect a lot of problems, and you can look on the Dopod release thread for some help with things as well. (Not to mention the rest of the site!)
See second post for more screen shots (5 pic limit/post), capture screen program NOT included in rom. Memory stats are as above, not as pictured, because I had that program and file explorer loaded and running.
Version 1.0 links, Includes Tao Java 10_1_7_575 built in, 6mb page pool. Time-tested stability and performance.
V1.0 Rapidshare Link
V1.0 Megaupload Link
Version 1.1: Offered with some trepidation, however since Schaps decided to package two alternative Java VM's I thought I'd give people a choice. In this version I have also decreased the page pool to 4mb, which makes me a bit nervous, but seems to be running ok for me. The final memory results are remarkable: Free storage memory is 61.03 mb, and Free program memory is 32.07 mb at cold boot after customizations! See post for further discussion. (Update: I have added a 6mb page pool version for those who have issues with the 4mb version.)
V1.1 4mb PagePool Rapidshare Link
V1.1 6mb PagePool Rapidshare Link
V1.2 Update: In this version I have gone even further, by removing all .rgu files from the V1.1 base. This eliminates about thirty-five file entries in the Windows directory, and frees up about 200K of additional storage memory. For some operations, this should increase rom speed even more than its already "blistering" pace. The downside to this is that it is unsuitable for those who want to use it as a base for their own cooking. (Except for the RomDonald kitchen, which should still work.)
V1.2 4mb Page Pool Rapidshare Link
V1.2 6mb Page Pool Rapidshare Link
SuperD-Lite: Based on V1.2, and incorporating bepe's new technology of melding extended_rom and storage rom, this version boosts available storage memory to 71mb. Be aware that this flash will wipe out your extended_rom partition. If you are coming from another chef's or stock rom, you will have to reload all your apps, etc. If you are upgrading from one of mine, that is still probably safest, but you can check my last post for an optional method.

Solitaire & Bubble Breaker Question
Hello Edhaas,
Thanks so much for this lite version!!
I was wondering if you have the cabs for Solitaire and Bubble Breaker (when you extracted them I was wondering if you kept them). I have searched and am unable to find them. It seems like they should be readily available but I am unable to find complete versions of their cabs.
Thanks again for this version and your time,
vjgrace
thanks for the base.. i wanted one that i could customize according to my needs
Hi,
Thanks I also wanted a lite rom. Just wanted to ask, since u said it's based on the latest official dopod rom, is it exactly the same with just those apps removed? No special tweaking, interpollating of other devices' roms, other imgfs, etc? (like what the other chefs are doing).Just the official dopod rom itself?
Edhass, care to provide some screen shots?
Edhass, you just did what I was contemplating doing last night!
Kudos for removing that ugly calculator with the buttons I can barely hit with my fingers. I never understood why some chefs left in that calculator while they blinged up the today screen and added nice dialpad skins.

Sorry about the games. It was a tough decision. In the end I took them out because I'd already played them to death. The freeware site in the second post has lots of games, including solitaire. There used to be cabs floating around here for the games, but I'm guessing they were pulled for copywrite issues. If I'm in error, it would be great if someone could post links or update. If you want, I could cook up another version with the games, I think they're around 500k together. It may take a few days though. If anyone else wants them, please post your request.

Feedback
drgopoos - you're welcome!
joecruz - It's all dopod. I played around with using another Java, and some other stuff, but for me the original works fine, and is much smaller. I changed some registry settings, and the initflashes, and removed stuff, but no mix and match in this version. Thanks for asking. Edit: I did change the version of mxip_notify.vol so that I could remove ceipui (phone home).
alancstan - I'll work on that. Basically its a standard WM6 looking rom. It boots into the Windows Default theme, but I've included the standard Guava Bubbles and Mobile Green themes. The difference is in the speed, stability, and available storage. You can make it look however you like!
rob.ocelot - Yeah, the calculator was always one of the first things I replaced when I ran a new rom. There's lots of better options out there.
Noticed that Remote Desktop is taken out as well. This actually works out better for me since you can install it to memory card -- more savings.
Any reason you left the sample pictures and dogbark.wav? (these are some of the first things to go when I start a new ROM)
Edit: Also no HTC X-button, which I almost always turn off. It never did mesh well with the way I use my PPC (closing/minimizing things to get to the today screen just to open the task manager).
I'm very impressed with how snappy everything seems to be!

Thanks for the comments! I chose to leave in the pics because they were really small, and I felt like there was some comfort factor involved for those transitioning from a stock rom. (When opening Pictures and Videos, its nice to have something there so you know its working.) I also sometimes use the dogbark for my alarm. (and its also small)
Actually the version 1.0 of x-button is built-in. This version is small, and its only function is to close an app completely if the x (close) is held down for a few moments. There is no today screen option. (Look in system settings, near the bottom, I think its called taskmgr or something. I've overwritten mine with a later version.) I didn't update it because I know there are folks like you who prefer other task managers, and I didn't remove it because for those who like to close their apps and not hide them its a simple solution.
Best wishes,
Many thanks for the Lite Rom, will try and see if working fine with my x01ht with chinese input.

Added screen shots
Well, per request I've added some screenshots to the first and second posts. Please note the screen capture app was added after the flash, and that available memory is larger than shown.
Also, we're around a hundred downloads, and I'm guessing the relative quiet here means everything is working great, and the rom is just boringly reliable and efficient!
Best wishes,
Found this rom very good.
On the subject of a2dp skipping, would brief pausing be called skipping? I have parrot mk6000 hands free carkit. It's bluetooth version is 1.2. I realize that bluetooth version 2.0 is downward compatible, could this have something to do with pausing? or is it a processing bottleneck? or buffersize issue?
Thanks in advance

A2DP troubleshooting seems to be a bit of an art. I can tell you that my Plantronics P260 stereo headset streams beautifully and skip-free while running internet radio, or any of the usual music players with the current settings. If I add another app to the mix, the music will sometimes pause while the other app is busy, then resume. If you are running TomTom while streaming internet radio, you might get pauses. Or, the 1.2 bandwidth could be an issue also in that case.
I did a mini-search and found a posting by pocc that might be helpful for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1406333
Generally though, the current thinking is that usejointstereo should be "1", and all the "bitpool" settings should be deleted for the best sound. See here. Which is the way I set this rom at default. If you do want to tinker with these settings, I suggest using one of the custom tweak apps, or getting a registry editor. Let me know if you need further help.
Regards,
WARNING: This is a release of Windows Mobile 6.5.5. Due to changes to os code, SOME older programs WILL NOT WORK. By this, I mean that an older program may execute as normal, but some of the menu options might not work due to the start button being moved to the bottom of the screen instead of the top like it was with WM6.5 and older. As far as I know, this is an os thing, so I CANNOT change this.
It's been pretty hectic over the past few weeks with college (and the various tests, quizzes, and computer science projects), and trying to get rom building done. I am sorry that I did not deliver the monthly rom update on time. To make up for that, I will be releasing 2 roms this month (one now and one at the end of the month). This one happens to be a rom with the new interface for WM6.5 (same warning for old programs as my WM6.5.3 rom). For those of you waiting on international version roms with WM6.5(.3), I apologize. I haven't had much time for rom building lately. However, international roms are coming soon (I can promise you that).
Thanks to Makuu (for helping to get me started), Lenny, AstainHellbring (thank you for all the nightly help sessions), the creators of the tools I used to make this rom, and anyone else that I failed to mention in name who gave me the knowledge to complete this rom.
Asus Mypal A6x6 WM6.5.5 version 5
Windows CE version 5.2.25027 (Build 25027.5.0.94)
This was tested on an Asus Mypal A626 (and works). It should work with the A686/A696, but the other models were not tested. Any other models NOT mentioned above WILL NOT WORK.
Updates
1. new Windows Mobile interface
3. os build
4. bug fixes
Additions (since last release)

download: http://www.easy-share.com/1912537593/Asus_A6x6_WM655_5.rar
At this time, this will be the only download link. Mirrors will be created in the future (after I give permission).
Instructions (I have included a txt file with same instructions for offline convenience)
Before you do anything, make sure you have at least a 256mb SD card and a card reader (you can get one at a place like Radio Shack or Office Depot). You also need to install winrar (found at http://www.win-rar.com/download.html). Your SD card must be formatted with the FAT16 file system.
To format your SD Card with the FAT16 file system
Step 1: To do this insert the SD Card into the reader and go to "My Computer".
Step 1a: BACKUP YOUR FILES before you start!!
Step 2: Right-click the drive letter of the SD Card reader (differs for each computer, probably either E:\ or F:\ or G:\) and click "Format".
Step 2a: Don't worry about any of the options except for file system, choose "FAT"
Step 3: Click "Start" and wait until it is done
Step 1: Get (OS) rom image
Step 2: Extract files to any folder on hard drive using Winrar
Step 3: Go to the folder where you extracted the files in the RAR archive
Step 4: Make sure that the filename is "CANNES_A_WM6.img"
Step 4a: if the img file it's not exactly "CANNES_A_WM6.img", rename it to that
Step 5: Format the SD card if you haven't already done so using the instructions above
Step 6: Copy the img file to the SD card, see step 6a
Step 6a: Make sure that the img file is the ONLY file on the SD card after formatting
Step 7: Take SD Card out of SD Card reader and put it in the a6x6
Step 8: Make sure that the a6x6 is plugged in via ac adapter before doing the next few steps
Step 9: activate SD Loader using the following instructions {
Step 9a: Hold down the power button and enter button (that's the button in the center of the d-pad)
Step 9b: Double tap the soft reset button while holding the other 2 buttons
Step 9c: After double tapping the soft reset button, keep the other 2 buttons held until a blue screen comes up that says something like Asus Cannes flashing utility
Step 9d: Wait until the process is finished (it's near the end when it says "writing private")
}
Step 10: At this point, your a6x6 should reboot on its own
Step 11: enjoy your updated rom
If you have any questions, feel free to just post or PM me.
As I release new roms, if you have a support question, please give me the rom version so I know what rom you are working with. You can get the rom version from the filename of the rom pack.
Example: Asus_A626_WM614_1
A626 = device (most often it will be A626, will rarely be different), WM614 = os version, 1 = release #

Thanks Steven,
This ROM is great, but because the interface changes in windows 6.5.5 some applications is not alligned well (ex. Settings->Power). And consumes lot of memory (after clean boot we only have ~27M free RAM. So, I'm waiting for standard WM 6.5 ROM with messaging working.
Is messaging not working for you? As for the interface stuff, it's probably because Microsoft designed it that way. For the free ram, I had no idea that you only have ~27mb free (somehow, it worked out better for me). This weekend, I will have some time to look into the ram issue since I'm off for a few days from college on fall break. Is the free ram reading you have right after a hard reset??
For those of you looking for linux updates, I have none due to a graphics bug that has been forever plaguing the A6x6, the issue of it being a landscape device. What happens is the system boots up in what is landscape mode in real life, but the system thinks it's in portrait mode. This has been driving me crazy, but I won't have time for a while to fix it.

Hi, Steven
Messaging is working in v5 and is working now in v4 too after reflash. The interface issue is not your problem, to be well aligned or you must rewrite the Asus applications, or the Asus must release ROM with WM 6.5.5. So I'm glad to see an WM 6.5.5 on my A696 but I think WM6.5 is more usable in A696.
The free RAM is right after hard reset, but I have some programs installed witch starts on boot (Spb PocketPlus).

Fat chance that Asus will make a WM6.5.5 rom if they didn't even make a WM6.1 rom for the A6x6 (I asked Asus once if they would make even a TEST WM6.5 rom with no liability for damages, but Asus was stingy about it). However, I do agree with you that WM6.5 is much more usable on the A6x6 then Wm6.5.5 is (I would even make the case that WM6.1 somewhat outdoes WM6.5 on the A6x6 too). I can't really rewrite the OEM programs since Asus releases no source code.
Correct, all of your work is excellent and without source you can't do anything.

Yep, and without hardware information for the A6x6, Linux progress is much, much slower.

Interesting - I'm looking at upgrading my A696 for the first time - I posted asking for a new A696 ROM over a year ago (possibly under my other account, pdamouse) and I'm very glad it happened . The WM6 it has on it is extremely slow and unreliable and the device itself tends to shut down randomly as of late - especially when using iGo8 but also if I just leave it on the Today screen - it could be hardware but maybe the software fix will fix it. I had it in for service once when it was still under warranty because it stopped charging or otherwise accessing battery power properly.
What would you recommend I install as a first upgrade? I have WM6.5.3 on my Xperia X1 and was thinking I would install WM6.5.5 on my A696 now - but it sounds like WM6.5 v4 of this software is much more usable anyway? So many options - you're recommendation would be great - thanks
Peter
P.S. Thanks very much for all the work you've done on this, I really appreciate it - noticed your sig, will give something when I get this working

Maybe a few questions will help you decide. Do you like the old WM6/6.1 interface and like using a stylus? If so, try my latest WM6.1 rom. Do you like the WM6.5 interface, but want compatibility with older programs? If so, try my latest WM6.5 rom (which is a mix between using stylus and using fingers). Do you like using your fingers instead of a stylus? If so, then go ahead and try the WM6.5.5 rom.
I've got tons of time to wait now, got the SD Card prepped and everything - but the download site doesn't seem to like me, I went through the hoops four times and it's asked me to wait over 20 minutes once, while not giving me the file at any point. At the end I got to the download page and it was just blank and after waiting awhile, nothing ever happened.
Update: Five time's the charm - downloading v4 now.
Interesting, thanks for your reply Steve - I'm trying to figure out how 6.5.5 would make apps that use the stylus not work (Update: I found your note from 6.5.3: "WARNING: This is a release of Windows Mobile 6.5.3. Due to changes to os code, SOME older programs WILL NOT WORK. By this, I mean that an older program may execute as normal, but some of the menu options might not work due to the start button being moved to the bottom of the screen instead of the top like it was with WM6.5 and older. As far as I know, this is an os thing, so I CANNOT change this." - I guess that's how...) - but I'm thinking 6.5 might be my best bet now. I guess I'll have to do more research - I prefer doing all the simple things with my fingers, but if I need to type for example, I like the ability to do things simply with the stylus without needing to switch to number mode on the keyboard, for example.
Thanks for your quick reply
Peter
I've decided to try 6.5.5 first . Unfortunately that means I need to redownload - but only 20 mins or so till it lets me and hopefully the download sys will work properly this time...
I decided based on screenshots of 6.5.5 on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Mobile. Based on that, it looks like 6.5.5 is the same general interface as 6.5.3 which I've been using on my Xperia X1 for the past 3+ months and which I've come to like. I like that I can use my fingers in general - yes it doesn't look quite as good, and maybe the Xperia's 800x480 3" screen has made it so I don't see the larger bar as such a loss - but I've been getting more and more annoyed with the A696's raised screen edge border, especially at the top right hand corner when in portrait mode - on my unit at least, it makes it quite difficult to get at the X with anything but the stylus and I like to be able to use my PDA sometimes without it, especially to just do really simple things like that.
Thank you for your feedback Steven - hoping to try this out this afternoon and will let you know my RAM info as well
Peter
Thanks for reminding me to repost the warning message (with this rom).

Hi Peter,
I think I have the same device. Scary, but it has been in the car hidden away as a GPS backup solution in case my touch HD fails and I am abroad.
What I've read a couple of times is that what you describe is a bad contact between the batt and the device. Some people solved it by using paper to get the batt to have a better contact with the device. Worth looking into I think.
I still have WM5 on it so I better get it out of the car and spend hours of joy

If you want to try my roms, you have to upgrade to the latest (WM6) stock rom in order of release, and then if you want to go back to WM5, I have a backup rom available.
Download and flashed. Seems to be working fine for what I use it for.
Thanks for the update!
It works much better than WM6 that's for sure! Much smoother and faster, I quite enjoy it
I like the new way it works, much easier to use my fingers, and I haven't seen any apps yet that I use being obscured by the thicker bar in such a way that functionality (or even aesthetics) are compromised.
Without installing anything, after a couple of soft resets I now have 29.62mb free RAM on boot. I got one Out of Memory error on iGo8, I will try to tweak the settings and see if I can get it to run smoothly. I'd be curious to know how much free RAM 6.5.3 has on boot, but I'm pretty sure I'll stick with this one if i can get that app to work without a problem - I use it to do tracklogs of my bike commute and it'd be nice to get it working consistently.
Thanks very much for all your work ,
Peter

Thanks for that info lukesan - I will look into it indeed - it hasn't happened yet with the new firmware, but it could be it - there is a sensor on the battery door that turns off the device if it's opened, but I suspect it's not working consistently - perhaps this will fix that and keep the contacts tight. They would just put paper between the cover and the battery? If you have a link talking about it in english that'd be great - thanks

On another point. I just checked my A636 outside and I have a hard time reading the display in the sun at max setting while my touch HD is alot better.
Is the display going darker? Any problems on that part on your end guys?

Hi Steven, thx very much for the warning. Luckily I was too tired yesterday to even type so I decided to charge it fully and do the upgrade a couple of days later.

I'm not exactly sure about the screen, but I think it might be because of the screen type. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Touch HD seems to have more of a glass-like screen, while the A6x6 (and A636) seem to have more of a plastic-like screen.
