Cab files load as text ine PIE.

Does anyone know why some cab files open as atext webpage in PIE?
i'm trying to install supertasks 2.0 to my phone (no desktop pc nearby)

It's a problem with the web page design. The cab file is not declared as the correct type on the web page. Unlikely that you can do anything to retrieve it on your PocketPC.

It downloads fine for me...strange.
Here's a trick: Right click on the item, and select "save link as..."
This should work.

I think dah54 is right, can't do anything about it. Maybe Netfront will be able to d/l it.
I think its so stupid that a PDA is tied to a PC. It should be autonomous.

fix: gmail - javamidlet

Ever since the new custel, lsvw, black 3.0 and etc... I can't get gmail to work well on any of them. I installed the new midlet fix and still nothing - anyone fixed the problem?

Do those use the Java applet?
If so and it's the same one as Custel 2.5 (not sure about the other ROMs):
1. Attempt to download the gmail applet from the Get Faster gmail link from http://gmail.google.com
2. After waiting for the Midlet Manager to complete, exit both the browser and Midlet Manager.
3. Open the Java applet and select the option on the Menu to Install from a local source (which should be there after it fails to download successfully from the google site; a .jad file sitting in My Documents).
I have the file on my phone. If you need it, please advise. Hopefully, this helps.

Could you please post the .jad file. Whenever i goto the site for the faster gmail it detects my phone as LG CU500 for some weird reason. And the one it downloads, the login button wont work.

^^^ You can easily tell it that you are not that phone and will give you the option to download the 'general' J2ME version.
I know you can do that because sometimes I change my phone to be seen as a PC and I get an error close to what you are getting.
Worse case scenario, you can find and download the app to you PC then transfer to your phone. It will take you only a few minutes.
Please try again. If not there are other sites that have the java app. No disrespect but don't act as a lazy noob.

Rename the file to gm-Generic-Advanced-MIDP2.jad (in other words, delete the .zip extension; it is NOT a zip file).

Why midlet?
Isn't it more convenient to have gmail connect with the standard inbox rather than a java midlet? That way you can set it to check your mail in your specified time frame? I've had it working with all roms i've tried this far, (dutty, lsvw, black, and custel)

wow.. the midlet works fine - better than the version detected as LG when we download from gmail directly.

how to instal .cab

I searched for the exact title and I wasn't able to find anything. I am wondering how to install a new Chome thing. I think that is what a .cab is right?

Yeah, you're right. Installer files to have the ".cab" extension at the end. Just use ActiveSync to send the file from your PC to your Dash. Remember where you've stored it, because when you open File Explorer (on your phone) you'll need to go straight to that same location. Open the .cab and the file should install on your phone. Reboot.

I put the file on my phone went into it and clicked the setup file, it went to like Internet Explorer and did a bunch of crap, then I restarted the phone and nothing changed?

Install this... "Cab via Activesync".

After that installs, go to where you downloaded the cab file on your computer, right click on it, and choose "Cabviaactivesync". Make sure your phone is connected and synced up before you do. It will automatically install on your phone

how much spoon feeding do I need? You must not remember what it was like to be new to this stuff? I am very new to this modding stuff so I would appreciate if you would let people who are helpfull and not rude help me and you just ignore my thread. Thank you.
I DLed the fix for the .NET problem. Correct me if I am wrong, I download the file from

and then I extract the folder to my desktop, then I open the folder and right click the set up file and click cabviaactivesync. When I do that I now get Exception of Type "System Exception was thrown.
What to do?

Alright so I have been looking (Googling) my problem and I found that 1.3 doesn't have the bug's so I DLed it and now I get unable to install the cab visit there website to report the problem.
I am thinking that I am doing the installation wrong.
In my last post please tell me if I am taking the correct steps and right clicking the correct file(s).?

wow I just figurred it out, I just didn't have to extract the file. WOW. That was simple if I just didn't overthink.
with the .cab installed my HomeScreen is a little weird, it didn't seem to install the whole file because it doesn't look and thing like the pictures given in the thread.
All of my thing's are X'ed out now, such as MY5 and my different browser's?
Also just for info. how do I uninstall a .cab

You just go to Start -> Settings -> More... -> Remove Programs. Voila.

Now I can't help you there. I haven't tampered with this .cab just yet...so I don't know how it "should" look.

Well seeing how's that's my .cab he installed... I would probably be the most apropriate person to help with it. But since you don't need my help, I'll let someone else have the "honor"

I never said I didn't need your help, in fact your help would be awesome.
Can you help me out as to why the .cab doesn't look like the picture and why My5 and Programs and so on have a red X for the symbol for the Slide?

Haha extract it to your computer and then drag it to your phone because thats a .zip file and your phone does not recognize a .zip file.

Just so you all know programs like these use your computer to install the program.
Make sure your phone is connected using a usb cord and it'll install it.

you might need to App Unlocl your phone. goto: mobile.surrealnetworks.com and click on applications for Dash. there is one or two programs that will unlock your phone to allow various programs to be installed. that might do the trick. someone correct me if im wrong.

Newbie: Photo Contacts Pro 5 info
Hi All,
I am a newcomer to this forum and let me tell you that you guys do a great job with coming up with information and guidelines on Excalibur software so I have to give you applause for that. Does anybody have any info on this? I have the demo and it seems like it is a good application.

I loathe photo contacts pro 5..... version 4.03 was and is the best one for the excalibur. my reasoning? after 4.03 the program doesn't run in the background. It shows up in task managers and is easly closed which defeats the purpose of having the program. It also takes up more memory and is even more laggy then version 5. if you can find a version 4.03 i highly recommend you try it.

question about installing something

I tried to install the FM radio cab onto my phone, but when I go to run the setu up, I get an error message saying "there is no application associated with (this file), run the application first, then open the file from within the application.
What should I do?

What kind of file is it? .cab or .exe? If it's a .exe then run it from you're computer. Make sure you got active sync working

.cab files need to be moved to the phone (best to make a folder on the SD card just for that), and run from there.

Do other .cab files behave this way when you try to run them on your phone? It sounds like the one you downloaded might be corrupted..? Your phone should run it directly with no problem as long as the file extension is still ".cab"
I would try a soft-reset, and then try the copy I have attached here instead of the one you first grabbed (it's the same file, but I know this copy works ok). You'll just have to unzip it and then move the cab to your phone.

I had a wizard (which I think was the same phone as the MDA), and nothing will take the special place it will always have in my heart. However, the TP2 does a damn good job of carrying that torch

The Wizard is the MDA... it was my first touch screen/windows PDA... I'll never forget how excited I was to get it... I miss the nav pad a lot though.... and they removed the IR port (not that I used it) and the camera flash (not that it was very effective)... I don't think new phones should have features removed that their predecessors had... I had to fight Tmo to get a decent price on my TP2 (and I was still raped, and I'd been with them for 10 years) and then the touch screen stopped working completely after a few weeks... Never had that problem with the Wizard (MDA) or Herald (Wing) and I had them for years.... that combined with no nav pad and NO TAB KEY haven't made me fall in love with this device!
